the whole "it's boring to have the characters end up in heaven at the end" like, no it's not a boring ending and it's not what happened. they aren't in heaven, they are back inside of jughead's narration. they're teenagers forever. they're inside the story again. this whole season has had each and every character fighting their way out of the narrative they have been trapped inside, that jughead trapped them in, let them finally achieve that and gain their freedom only to die and end up back in the narrative again. they are back where they started.
riverdale ending with archie, betty, jughead and veronica getting into a four-way polyamorous relationship (EXCEPT jarchie lmao) and then all breaking up so none of them are endgame with each other is the funniest way to end the ship war. iconic really.
Anyway, if I had a nickel for every time a series had six installments that gradually escalated in ridiculousness, only for the sixth installment to end with a universe reboot and the seventh installment to pick up in a new universe where alternate versions of the original characters now exist in the distant past, I'd have two nickels.
One of those series is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. The other is Riverdale
riverdale reworked the story of pinochio for the modern age by making him the homophobic twin of a lesbian who becomes a real life theatre kid, sells smut films to teenagers and dies in the vietnam war btw
Toni and Cheryl stayed together. Moved out west together. They settled in Oakland Hills in a craftsman house, where they lived as artists and activists. And they had a son, Dale, named after Riverdale of course.
— RIVERDALE | S07E20, Goodbye Riverdale
i do think it’s so awesome that they didn’t cave and make bughead or varchie or barchie endgame. the person you date in high school will NOT be the person you end up with even if you live in riverdale!! you will be trapped in with them and all your other classmates forever in a diner in the afterlife though.
