The week prior you and Jonathan had been cooking dinner together. You guys were joking around and just pacing about the kitchen. While stirring the soup you were making some of it splattered and it hit his arm.
He let out a whimper as he scurried across the kitchen grabbing a towel. You wanted to ask if he was ok. However the only thing circling your mind was the fact that he just whimpered. Your mind replayed the sound over and over. You needed to hear that again.
So now every time you would start to get it on you wanted to hear that noise. He must've been shy of making any noise, because no matter how hard you tried he always quieted himself.
"Just let me take care of you" You whisper slowly crawling up him so you could straddle his waist. He was now laying under you only wearing boxers. He lifted himself up on his elbows so he could stare at you.
Your hands glided along his pale skin before reaching his boxers. You slowly palmed him through the thin layer of his boxers. You made sure to graze the tip through the fabric watching him slightly jolt under you.
You slightly smiled to yourself as you pulled his boxers down. His breath hitched as you reached to put his cock in your hand.
"So pretty" You murmur as you place kisses on the tip. His cock twitched under your touch as you gathered the pre-cum so you could glide your hands from the tip to the base of his cock.
His breaths got faster the minute your lips wrapped around the tip. You inched yourself down his cock making sure to watch his beautiful face.
"Fuck" He breathed out as your mouth hit the base. You stayed there for a few seconds before pulling up to stop yourself from gagging. He watched as you bobbed your head slowly.
You couldn't stop the ache that had started, leaving a wet patch on your light blue panties. You continued pleasuring him trying to distract yourself from the heat you were feeling between your legs.
Then it happened. As you carefully licked his slit as he was getting closer and closer, he whimpered. You continued doing what you had been as you carefully stroked his cock.
"Fuck" He moaned bucking his hips hard causing him to hit the back of your throat.
"Y- your mouth feels so good" He whimpered watching you intently as you bobbed your head up and down.
You could feel him beginning to twitch. You pulled your head up so that when he came you wouldn't choke. As he came in your throat you swallowed and kept going.
"What are you doing" He whimpered grabbing the sheets as you continued bobbing your head up. "Oh god. Please. please" He begged as you kept going.
Finally you weakened your paces and pulled your mouth off with a pop. Saliva dripped down your lips as you stared at him. He was laying back against the pillow breathing heavy.
You giggled as you crawled over toward him to wrap your arms around his thin body.

Jonathan can't help but feel guilty some days when he looks at Steve. He sees the glasses and the hearing aids and how sometimes Eddie or Robin would call to tell them that Steve won't be coming today because of a bad migraine.
He's not guilty about not being in Hawkins in '86. He's not guilty about not being in that Russian base. He's not guilty he wasn't there when Billy tried to attack the kids. He's not guilty because all those times he was elsewhere, helping the others, helping Will.
He's guilty because he was there the first time. He's guilty because before he'd even seen a demogorgan he gave Steve his first concussion. He's guilty because sometimes he wonders if Steve would be ok if he had one less hit to the head.
He's guilty because Steve never brings it up, never comments on '83 or about Nancy or about any of it. He's guilty because Steve invites him into his home, into his parties, into his life. He's guilty because Steve calls them friends. He's guilty because when Steve does bring it up he thanks Jonathan for "knocking some sense into me".
He's guilty because no matter how many times Steve has to put in his glasses, or have someone repeat words, or lays in the dark in pain, he never blames Jonathan.
Steve reminds him to not feel guilty, because there's nothing to feel guilty for.

The One with the Gossip
The group is hanging out at the café, all in different conversations when Jonathan comes into the bar and flops down on the couch. Camera bag sliding off his shoulders.
“When does this place start serving alcohol?” he groans.
“In about thirty minutes,” Nancy starts, “are you ok?”
Argyle trades places with Robin, sitting next Jonathan. “That bad?”
Jonathan nods, widening his eyes. “Messiest wedding I have worked months. There were so many things and they just piled on top of each other. The amount of bridesmaids and groomsmen that had previously slept together and didn’t know about it was insane.”
Steve and Eddie turn their heads at the same time. “What now,” Eddie says intrigued.
“I love messy shit I’m not apart of,” Steve mutters under his breath.
“It was crazy,” Jonathan sits up, turning toward Steve and Eddie at the side table. “And it all started for the most stupid reason. The guys apparently had a bet when to see how many of the bridesmaids they could sleep with. And the girls didn’t know about it, and a few of them fell with their ‘charms’ and were none the wiser. Until, one of the groomsmen said who won in their speech.”
“Holy shit,” Robin says with a sip of her tea.
Eddie winces. “That is such a dick move.”
“How likely was it that they were part of those fraternities that just liked to terrorize people,” Steve asks. Having almost accidently joined one of these fraternities when he was in college.
Jonathan nods with disgust. “That only scratches the surface. The best man had won, having slept with six out of the seven bridesmaids, and he was engaged to the maid of honor.”
Everyone winces with disgust.
“Not cool, dude,” Argyle says with disappointment. “So not cool. How can people do this to other people. And think that they can get away with it.”
“Because they’re inconsiderate assholes,” Steve says at the same the same time Eddie says “They’re disgusting bags of shit.” They high five each other.
Jonathan lets out a long breath. “And I’m not done yet. It gets worse.”
“Oh my god, how,” Nancy questions.
Argyle stands. “I’ll be right back, continue without me.” He walks over to the bar and starts to talk to the barista.
“He got bonus points for sleeping with the bride. And the second-place winner, was the groom.”
“Holy shit,” everyone says in unison.
Jonathan nods with wide eyes. “And the groom got a bonus point for sleeping with his future mother in law.”
They were too stunned to speak, just letting the silence fill that moment. Argyle returns with a cup of something and places it in Jonathan’s hands.
“What did I miss?” he asks, looking at them all super confused. “Are you guys broken?”
Steve shakes his head, trying to wrap his head around what was just said. “I don’t think I’ve heard that one before.”
“And this is coming from someone who has actually slept with one of his frat bro’s moms,” Robin interjects.
“On accident. And she was his stepmom, that was much younger than his dad, well after I was in college. He doesn’t know, it’s fine.”
“Did that cause another sex ban?” Eddie asks.
Steve laughs. “No, that’s when the figured out that the previous sex ban wasn’t working.”
Jonathan takes a sip of the drink Argyle gave him. “Jesus, that’s strong. Did you bribe them or something?”
“Something like that. Seriously though, what did I miss?”
“Groom slept with the future mother-in-law,” Robin fills in, Argyle winces. “What is with people?”
Jonathan shrugs. “Don’t know. But it was a big wedding that they are not getting a refund for. And I still got cake, well what was left of it.”
Eddie leans forward. “What was left of it?”
“Yeah,” Jonathan nods. “Speeches were right before cake, so the bride took the entire top layer and slammed it over the groom’s head. Followed by the maid of honor taking two giant handfuls and shoving it into the best man’s face. Arguments broke out and all that shit. I stayed back to help clean up.”
“Had they signed the marriage certificate yet?” Nancy asks.
Jonathan sighs. “No clue, don’t care. It’s over and I got paid. A lot. This was not a cheap wedding. Oh right,” Jonathan reaches down into his bag and grabs a takeout container, handing it to Argyle. “Saved you a piece of cake.”
Argyle takes it, opening it and starting to eat it. Nodding his head in appreciation.
The rest of the group looks at Jonathan. “Where’s our cake?” Robin asks, a little hurt.
“You don’t live with me, you don’t get cake.”

part two to this little thing 'cause i saw these tags on the last part from @stevesjester and actually kicked my feet and giggled about it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After Pretty Boy kissed him, Eddie walked back to the staff break room in a daze.
His slow lumbering gait still managed to scare some folks, though, so that’s a plus.
He opens the door, slowly turns to close it softly, and leans back against it once it is.
“Eddie? You okay?” Comes a voice he’d know anywhere. “Wait, that is you, right? You’re supposed to be Piggy Man tonight?”
Eddie pulls the rubber mask off, making his stomach flip thinking about the last time it was pulled up. You know, ‘cause he’s a sap.
Chrissy takes in his shocked, sweaty face, “Oh my god, you okay? What happened?”
He looks up at his roommate (best friend, sister) in her bloody cheerleader costume, an ironic holdout from their time in high school, and breathes a laugh, “I fell in love.”
“OMG OMG tell me everything right now!!” Chrissy bounces over to him excitedly and pulls him down to the bench of their one (1) break table, a sagging plastic picnic table.
He looks up at her bright happy face and barks out a half hysterical laugh, “I can’t believe you’re this excited about me potentially falling in love with someone I’m literally being paid to scare.”
“Oooh, so they were a runner??”
“Yeah, literally in this case.”
“Start talking, Munson, or I’m going to throw all your guitar picks down the garbage disposal.”
“Okay, okay, Jesus Christ.. Okay, so I did my usual creepy husky voice at him, called him all the usual things,”
“Let me guess, you started with ‘pretty boy’?”
“Yeah. ‘Cause he’s pretty. Duh. Damn was he pretty…”
“Uh huh. And you fell in love with him ‘cause he was pretty?”
“No, no of course not, listen to this:” Eddie sits up straighter in preparation for the story. “I had him backed into a corner, right? The fake gate over in section 2B,”
“Ah yes, of course.”
“Yeah! And when I lunged at him, he caught my arm, and spun me around.”
“Shut. Up.”
“No, never. SO he’s got me backed against the fence, and he–I swear to fucking Jesus H. Christ–lifts my mask up and kisses me.”
Chrissy starts to squeal incoherently. “Eeeeee!!! Shutupshutupshutup!! Holy shit there’s no way this happened!!”
“Look, 100% serious right now; he kissed me stupid, and spun around and booked it again.”
“Pretty Boy distracted you with a kiss to escape!?! I cannot believe this, c’mon..” Crissy grabs ahold of his arm again and pulls him out of the breakroom with her insane unchecked leftover cheer squad strength.
“Whoa, what? Where’re we going?? He’s probably gone by now! I was standing over in 2B like an idiot for a while after he left!!”
“Not that, we gotta go see Argyle.”
“Argyle why—ohhh shit. Oh my god, you think they caught it on camera?” Eddie’s actively following her now.
The two burst into the warehouses’ security office, where they’re met with the backs of two ‘zombie’ guards (and the leftover smell of weed).
“Argyle, Jonathan, you need to look at something for us,”
“Is it the footage of Eddie’s makeout sesh in 2B? ‘Cause we’re waaayy ahead of you pompom.”
“Ah!! Holy shit he was telling the truth?!” Chrissy bodies between the two, sending Argyle rolling away on his chair, and Jonathan staggering back a step.
“Dude, that’s so cool of your boyfriend to come to the haunt, keepin’ us in business.” Argyle directs at Eddie, though still spinning slowly in his chair.
“He’s not my–you thought he was my boyfriend?”
“Yeah man, why else would you look at him like that.” Jonathan points down at the screen.
Chrissy re-winds it again and Eddie watches himself charge forward at Pretty Boy (damn, he’s still pretty though this grainy footage too, how the fuck is that possible??), get spun and–oh shit, they’re right.
“Oh Jesus Christ.” he hangs his head into his hands, falling down into Jonathan’s previously abandoned chair.
“Sooo…he’s not your boyfriend..?”
Chrissy re-winds the footage again. Squeals happily.
“Nope. Just met him tonight.”
“Wow dude, that’s like, love at first sight if I ever saw it.”
She re-winds it again, squeals.
“Yeah I know, it’s embarrassing as shit, alright?” Eddie’s still talking into his palms.
Chrissy snorts at that, “Not for you! Well..kinda..but him too, did you not see that pause?”
“...What pause?”
His question goes unanswered as Jon and Argyle move back in over Chrissy’s shoulders and after a few seconds both “Ohh…” in sync.
“The fuck’re you talking about?”
“Look,” She re-winds the tape once again and points, “Watch after he lifts your mask.”
So he does, and..okay, there was a pause.
“...So?”
“He totally fell in love with you at the same time you did him. Fell with him. With each other?”
“You both fell in love at the same time.” Chrissy says what Jonathan was trying to. “We have GOT to find this guy somehow.”
Chrissy records the footage on the screen with her phone, intending to post it online to find the guy, but Argyle’s positive he’s gonna show back up tonight.
“Give him a chance, pompom, he’s totally in love too, remember?”
“Fine, but if he doesn’t come back today, I’m posting this. Maybe it’ll get us some more business too.”
“Do I get a say in this?” Eddie asks, already knowing the answer.
“No.” Yep, there it is.
So, he rolls his eyes, puts his mask back on, and finishes out the night like everything is normal and he didn’t just fall head over fuckin’ heels for a random (hot) stranger earlier.
He’s done for the night before Chrissy since she’s got a lot of that fake blood to try and wash off, so he grabs up his stuff and heads out the front, intending to wave bye to Gareth at the front counter before braving the frigid late fall wind to warm up his car (and move it closer to the entrance so Chrissy doesn't have to walk in the cold).
“See ya Ed,” Gareth calls, and he waves over his shoulder at him as he passes, his attention pulled to a blonde with a choppy bob looking in through the glass of the door, partially silhouetted by the bright ass headlights of a shiny Tesla parked behind her.
He can see the shadow of someone in the driver seat too, as he gets closer and opens the door for her, their face only partially lit up through the tinted glass by the glow of a phone screen.
She starts rambling off immediately after the door is open. “Oh my god, I thought we were too late and you were closed and I completely didn’t even realize I’d left something here when we were here earlier an–”
“Nope, no worries, ma’am, just go talk to Gareth at the front counter and he can tell you if someone turned in…whatever it is you left here.”
She says her thanks and scoots past him, and he spins quickly towards the side lot where his old Neon is parked.
He glances back when he hears the bell chime over the door, a bit delayed (probably the wind holding it open), and sees that the Tesla’s stopped beaming their headlights into the front door, that’s nice of them.
He unlocks his car and gets in, turning the engine over and cranking the heat as high as it’ll go. Once the engine stops it’s signature ‘I’m cold as fuck rn, don’t even try to move me’ rattle, he drives to the front door to wait for Chrissy, pulling in next to the burgundy Tesla.
He scrolls down TikTok for a couple minutes before a banner pops up on his screen
Chris C.: oh my holy fucking shit eddie, get your ass back inside!
Panicking, he races back in through the door, not even bothering to shut off his engine (or close his car door for that matter), thinking shiny Telsa duo is like, robbing the place or something, but as soon as he gets back in, he’s stopped dead in his tracks.
His heart’s still beating a mile a minute, but now with nerves.
Because standing infront of the counter are Chrissy (who’s actually vibrating with excitement), choppy blonde, and…
Oh fuck.
No way.
“H–hi, hi. I’m Steve, you’re Eddie right?”
He can’t help the grin that splits across his face. “Hey, pretty boy.”

Jonathan didn’t know how else to say it but…Steve Harrington was weird. Like really, really weird. And he wasn’t even talking about Steve and Eddie. He thought Harrington was plenty weird all on his own.
Jonathan really didn’t understand why Eddie was always marked as the strange one in the duo. To him, Eddie made perfect sense. Poor background, unique interests, drug dealer, loud and obnoxious as a coping mechanism, but still managing to be a pretty good guy all around. It was normal for a guy like that to be a little out there.
But Steve didn’t make any sense to him. Zero. Zilch.
Because he was rich, handsome, athletic, a total jock in every sense of the word. Half the school wanted to get in his pants, while the other half desperately tried to figure out how he got so many girls. By all accounts, he should be an asshole. Someone who basked in his own popularity, not someone who literally shunned it. Steve was the only person he’d ever met who had it all, and didn’t care.
All he seemed to care about was freaking Eddie Munson of all people. They had been attached at the hip since grade school and even with Eddie disappearing for two years, Steve was right back at his side nearly the moment he got back.
He didn’t go to parties, never bragged about his conquests unless someone asked, and even then he was always incredibly vague, and from what he’d heard from Nancy, he didn’t even sleep at his own house 90 percent of the time. If you were looking for Steve Harrington, all you really had to do was track down Eddie Munson.
Jonathan had only purchased weed a handful of times in his young life, but every single time Steve had been there. Either in the van waiting when Eddie dropped something off, or sitting right next to him on the park bench, popping gum and reading a comic book while Eddie did his business.
And he was…intensely protective over him. Which was weird considering how Munson was scary enough in his own right, at least on the outside. Like getting into multiple fights, protective. Making girls cry who had the audacity to say anything about Eddie’s antics, protective. Like cursing out an actual teacher, protective.
Like comforting your best friend after a near death experience instead of your literal girlfriend protective. Who did that? And maybe it hadn’t been official back then, but still. You’d think you’d spend time cuddling your crush in your lap instead of your childhood buddy. And there was also the weird hair smelling thing they kept doing. He hadn’t looked too closely at the time, but Steve had turned to bury his face in Eddie’s hair every few minutes after the 83 showdown. He hadn’t seen a repeat of that since, though. Maybe…maybe Eddie had gotten demon guts in his hair? And Steve had been trying to find the source?
He didn’t fucking know. He just…didn’t get him. And now he got him even less. The guy pulled freaking Nancy Wheeler as his girlfriend, and he didn't spend every possible waking moment with her?
But it wasn’t just him prioritizing Eddie over Nancy. It was the fact that he didn’t care that Nancy was with him more often than her actual boyfriend. Which was fantastic for Jonathan, even if it was a bit of a double edged sword. Because Nancy was gorgeous and so fucking smart and cool and…and Jonathan liked her so much he kind of wanted to die.
And he couldn’t do a damn thing about it. Even if he’d come close, way more than once. There were probably a dozen times where he’d almost kissed her. And the last one would have happened if they hadn’t been interrupted. They had been talking next to his car during lunch, Jonathan couldn’t even remember what it had been about. He just remembered that he had said something to make her laugh. And she looked so freaking beautiful when she laughed. She looked pretty all the time, but something about seeing her happy made her jump from a 10/10 to a 15.
The sun was in her hair, and her eyes crinkled in that cute way that he loved, and Jonathan had been leaning in before he knew it was happening. And if Steve and Eddie hadn’t walked by right in that moment, it would have happened. He had jumped nearly ten feet in the air when he spotted him out of the corner of his eye, fully expecting Steve to start tearing into him for being so close to his girlfriend.
But he just smiled and waved when he saw them, and went right back to their conversation before walking off.
See? Weird.
He didn’t know why it didn’t bother Nancy more, how little he cared about what the two of them were up to. Part of him was praying it was because she was falling out of love with him, and all of the romantic tension they had together wasn’t in his head.
But he just couldn’t bring himself to make that final step. Mostly because he was busy trying to take care of Will most of the time. Even if he got his way he wasn’t exactly in a position to be a good boyfriend. His little brother came first, especially after everything he had been through. And he was struggling, Jonathan could see it. And he spent most of his spare moments trying his damndest to get Will to open up. It hadn’t worked. But he kept trying.
But there was another part to it too. He…he didn’t want to be that guy. The kind of guy to make moves on a taken girl. Especially Steve’s girl. Both him and Eddie had risked their lives last year helping them out, and what? He was going to thank them by breaking Steve’s heart? He couldn’t bring himself to do it.
Even if Eddie wanted him to. Which was just one more thing he didn’t get, the weird encouragement Eddie would give him when it came to his best friend’s girlfriend. If Jonathan mentioned a movie he wanted to see, preferably with her, Eddie would always be sure to keep Steve busy on friday nights for her to be free. If Jonathan had his mom’s car for a week and really wanted to be the one to pick her up in the morning, Eddie would conveniently find a reason that Steve couldn’t.
It was weird, and kind of fucked up, but Jonathan had at least a small idea on why he was doing it. It was pretty obvious, after you got a little closer to the two of them. Eddie was in love with Steve. But Steve wasn’t in love with Eddie, not when he had Nancy on his arm. It explained why he monopolized all of his time, why he hung around them on their dates, why he was so open to letting another guy swoop in on her.
He never actually asked him about it. It felt like a fucked up thing to say, especially if he was wrong. But Jonathan couldn’t think of any other explanation. So he kind of just…went with it. At this point it felt like he was Eddie’s co-conspirator to break them up, even if it was never explicitly said.
Which was fucked up, on both their ends. Yeah Steve was weird, and kind of a bitch, but he was a good guy all in all. He was Eddie’s best friend for a reason.
So Jonathan held back his feelings. Or at least he did for as long as he could. But then Nancy came to him for help to expose the Hawkins lab. And they ended up on this crazy fucking adventure together. And he just fell more and more in love with every wild stunt she did.
And then they kissed at Murray’s and Jonathan didn’t have the strength to say no. How could he? It just…happened. And okay yes. He feels bad for Steve. But he doesn’t regret it. Not even slightly. And maybe that made him the biggest asshole in the world, but it was hard to care when Nancy freaking Wheeler wanted him of all people.
It was pretty easy to shove the guilt right out of his mind. That was until they saw Steve and Eddie next, right in front of the Hawkins lab. Steve had instantly brightened at the sight of her, immediately sweeping her up into a big hug.
And Jonathan couldn’t bring himself to watch it. He just couldn’t. Because that was probably going to be the last time they hugged like that. He was already in too deep and there was no way in hell that he was going to let last night be a one night stand. He hadn’t exactly asked Nancy to break up with him yet, but he was going to.
Because he was a dick like that, apparently. But maybe they could find a way to do it…kindly? If that was even possible. And if there was anyone who would be able to help soften the blow for Steve, it would be Eddie Munson.
Jonathan walked up to him as the other two started talking. He jerked his head to the side, “Hey can I talk to you for a second?”
Eddie nodded, following him over to a safe distance from the car. He didn’t really think Eddie would be mad at him for what he did. But he was still a little nervous to say it out loud.
He avoided saying what he truly wanted, deflecting with a question, “So um, Steve and Nancy, how uh, serious are they?”
Eddie stared at him like he’d magically grown a second head, “Huh?”
“They’ve almost been together for like a year now right?” Jonathan pressed, “Is he…y’know. In love with her?”
But Eddie was still looking at him like he’d asked something insane. He narrowed his eyes at him, “Are…are you kidding me right now?”
“What?” Jonathan asked, almost as equally confused as Eddie, “Why would I be kidding?”
Eddie raised a brow at him, “You think Steve and Nancy are dating? For like, real? After all this time? After last year. That’s what you think?”
Jonathan really wished Eddie would just tell him what the hell he was talking about instead of emphasizing every other word. He crossed his arms over his chest, feeling oddly defensive when he asked, “What else am I supposed to think?”
He hadn’t expected Eddie to bark out a laugh at the question. It took a second for him to compose himself to talk again while Jonathan looked on, more confused than ever.
Eddie eventually straightened, holding a fist in front of his mouth while he struggled for the words, “Jonathan, dude, last year you saw me in his lap. With my arms around his neck. While he kissed me to make me feel better.”
Jonathan blinked at him, “Huh?”
He hadn’t remembered the kissing part. And in his defense he had been a bit distracted with the news that his brother was alive. But the hair smelling thing…had…had Steve been kissing the top of his head that whole time? Right in front of him?
Eddie looked way too amused at Jonathan’s shock, “So what do you think that means bud? Is that something you do with your friends?”
“But Nancy! And all the other girls-”
“Fake, fake, fake and fake,” Eddie said with a grin, “That boy’s all mine. And has been for years. Him and Nance are just friends. Really good friends but that’s it.”
Eddie put a hand on his shoulder, voice softening a little but still a little too tickled for Jonathan’s liking, “We all kind of thought you knew man. I guess I underestimated our own acting skills there.”
Jonathan slowly nodded, even though his brain was still struggling to catch up with everything he’d said. But it made sense. It actually made perfect sense. That’s why Steve didn’t care that he was all over her, that’s why Eddie had been so encouraging, that’s why Steve was so fucking weird. The guy had been basically married since he was in third grade.
“Holy shit,” Jonathan finally breathed out, “That makes so much sense.”
But then a realization hit him, “Wait, so all of this time Nancy has been single?”
“And ready to mingle,” Eddie added with a wink, “Though if it helps, you’re the only one she’s set her sights on. That and Tom Cruise but I think you still have good odds.”
As wonderful as that revelation was, it kind of also made him want to smash his head into a wall. How could he have been so blind?
“Don’t worry about it,” Eddie said, like he could read his mind, “We do actually try to hide it most of the time. It’s not completely your fault for not seeing the hints.”
He only had one more question, a stupid one but he still wanted to be sure, “So um, hypothetically. If I, uh, slept with his fake girlfriend, he wouldn’t be mad about it?”
Eddie laughed, “He’d be ecstatic. Half the time those two talk is about you. He’s been waiting for you to make a move as long as Nancy has. And he will definitely get a kick out of this conversation when I tell him, that’s for damn sure.”
Jonathan nodded. That was…some pretty fantastic news. Besides the sting that he could have had her weeks or even months ago, it was a good fucking feeling to know that they hadn’t done anything wrong. It was kind of weird, knowing that Steve Harrington of all people was gay. But he didn’t care. That might have been how his dad tried to raise him, but his mom had stopped all the homophobic shit the second he ditched.
He was raised better than to judge two people for being happy together. And the fact that they trusted him with something so big made him feel…kind of special. Definitely not like an asshole. The two of them wandered back to Steve and Nancy and Eddie didn’t hesitate to pull him into his arms.
Jonathan watched as he whispered something to him before kissing his cheek, like it was the most natural thing in the world. And for them it probably was. He saddled next to Nancy. He didn’t exactly have the confidence to be that affectionate in public like those two did, but he’d like to work his way up to it. He gently took her hand in his, blushing at the way it made her smile.
She squeezed his hand back before shuffling a little closer to lean into him. He didn’t have much time to indulge in it, not when the lights all suddenly came back on. But as they all hurried inside, he couldn’t help but think that maybe, just maybe, everything would be okay.

day two of @argyledaily 's argyle week: favorite tropes (friends to lovers)
Tumblr media
“That’s gonna be us one day,” Argyle whispers in Jonathan’s ear.
Jonathan chokes on his own spit. “What?”
“That,” Argyle gestures to Hopper and Joyce holding hands as they read their vows.
Jonathan stares at him with a look so incredulous while a smile tugs at the edge of his lips.
“It’s not legal,” Jonathan points out, still keeping his voice down enough to not disturb the ceremony.
Argyle glances his way and smirks, “Sorry, are we law-abiding citizens now?”
“We’re not dating,” Jonathan counters with a whisper.
“I like how that was your second thought,” Argyle responds, his smirk growing wider.
“I‒” Jonathan stutters and shakes his head. “You’re messing with me.”
“I’m not,” Argyle says simply.
“What makes you think we’re getting married?” Jonathan asks. Not in a cruel or mean way, based on the blush lighting up his whole face.
Argyle shrugs, “I just know.”
Jonathan watches him with that same questioning look for the rest of the ceremony and into the reception but doesn’t refuse when Argyle offers his hand for a dance. Jonathan thinks for a moment that they’ll do some kind of exaggerated, stupid dance to offset all the couples on the floor but instead, Argyle pulls him in close, clasps their hands together, and holds his lower back firm and steady. Slowly twirls him around the floor in smooth movements. Jonathan laughs for a little while but soon, he’s in deep. Allowing himself to be held and maybe romanced for the first time in a long time.
It’s not like anyone’s staring at them, they’re around all their closest friends and family.
“Where did you learn to dance like this?” Jonathan asks, a little breathless.
“My parents,” Argyle says. “They loved dancing around the living room when they would come home from date nights. My sister and I would watch from the banister when we were supposed to be in bed.”
“Did you ever get caught?”
Argyle smiles fondly, “Almost every time but it was worth it.”
The song cascades into another slow song and Argyle hasn’t let go so Jonathan won’t either. It’s really nice if he’s being honest.
“You’re good on your feet.”
“I know, dude,” Argyle says with a righteous huff. “It’s what will make me a good husband… amongst other things.”
Jonathan ducks his head and laughs but doesn’t quip back. He knows he hasn’t had enough champagne to make everything feel so floaty around him. He chalks it up to it being a long day of celebrating but the fluttering of his stomach when Argyle tightens his hold on his back would beg to differ.
Tumblr media
The next wedding they attend is for one of Argyle’s uncles. Jonathan is a little surprised to be asked to tag along as his plus one but he doesn’t protest. He loves Argyle’s family and they love him.
Again during the ceremony, Argyle whispers, “That’s going to be us one day.”
They hadn’t brought up Joyce and Hopper’s wedding since it happened: The way they danced that entire reception, Argyle's simple declaration, nothing. Everything felt as it had been.
Although, they had become roommates in the interim. They shared meals. They shared a bathroom. They shared laughter and heartache. They shared blunts on a couch that was picked up from the side of the road. They shared their independence from adolescence.
But they were still just best friends.
Jonathan peeks around to make sure no one’s paying attention to them.
“You don’t think we’ll find anyone else?” Jonathan whispers.
Argyle tilts his head from side to side. “I don’t really want to. Do you?”
Jonathan blinks at him, opens his mouth a few times to say something, but ultimately doesn’t. They return their attention to the ceremony.
They don’t slow dance together at this reception and Jonathan tries to swallow his disappointment with a few fingers of bourbon. Not that he doesn’t have a good time letting loose with Argyle’s family and celebrating but there’s this tug in his chest the entire night. He's not sure where it came from.
He wonders if Argyle feels it too.
They’re in the elevator on the way back to their shared hotel room when Jonathan blurts out, “You think we’re getting married?”
Argyle gives him a lazy grin. “ I do , man.”
They both start giggling at the double entendre and the elevator door opens to their floor. They stumble sleepily to the door and get inside. Argyle starts to get ready for bed until Jonathan tugs on his arm.
Argyle raises his eyebrows in a silent question.
“You’re gonna marry me someday but you’ve never kissed me.” Jonathan meant this more as a question than a statement but he does his best to stand tall and not back away from his feelings. Whatever his feelings might be right now, he's not entirely sure.
“Do you want me to kiss you?” Argyle mumbles.
Jonathan hasn’t really thought this far but finds himself nodding before he can think otherwise.
Argyle takes a step closer, shaking Jonathan’s grip on his arm to hold his hand instead.
Jonathan intertwines their fingers, inhales and all he smells is Argyle, Argyle, Argyle .
“Are you going to remember me kissing you?” Argyle whispers, his breath hitting Jonathan’s face.
Jonathan checks in with himself. He’s not as crossfaded as he is just exhausted from the day. He can’t think of how he wouldn’t remember something like this.
Jonathan nods.
Argyle kisses him so tenderly and sweet that it makes his heart burst behind his ribs. Still, Jonathan kisses back and soon they’re up against the door. Jonathan’s free hand reaches up to hold the side of Argyle’s throat while Argyle’s free hand holds Jonathan’s waist.
Argyle finds he likes the way their slight stubbles rub against each other. He likes the way Jonathan smiles into kisses like he’s just happy to be included. He likes the way Jonathan presses up against him like he can’t wait to get closer.
They eventually stop kissing a little after subtle tongue and teeth have been involved. Argyle kisses either cheek and steps back. He observes the hazy look in Jonathan's eyes when they open, huffs an amused sound through his nose and walks off to the bathroom.
“Thoughts? Comments? Concerns?” Argyle calls out.
Jonathan is frozen against the door, holding a shaky hand to his lips. “Uh,” Jonathan calls out. “Good.”
“Glad to hear it,” Argyle says with his head popped out the door. He closes the door and Jonathan hears the shower running.
Jonathan slowly changes into his pajamas, still shaky and mushy from that damn good kiss. He eyes the bed he was supposed to sleep in with disdain and decides that he’s going to crawl under Argyle’s sheets instead.
Jonathan’s out like a light within minutes. Argyle exits the bathroom in just some boxers and crawls in beside him. He kisses the top of Jonathan’s head and wraps his arms around him. Jonathan snuggles into his warm, freshly cleaned body, tucking his head into his neck.
Jonathan does remember the kiss the next day and wants more. Argyle is happy to give them to him.
Tumblr media
A few years later, Max and Lucas are getting married. Argyle and Jonathan have been dating since the last wedding so Jonathan’s not caught as off-guard when, like clockwork, Argyle leans in to whisper, “That’s gonna be us one day.”
Jonathan squeezes the hand that’s resting on his shoulder, tangling their fingers together.
“Do you want a big ceremony like this?” Jonathan asks.
“Hmm,” Argyle hums. “Maybe something more lowkey.”
“Courthouse?”
Argyle’s face scrunches up. “I don’t like government buildings.”
“Church?”
“Do you believe in God?” Argyle asks with a disbelieving look.
Jonathan chuckles under his breath. “Sure don’t.”
“We’ll find somewhere just for us,” Argyle promises.
Jonathan smiles and kisses the square of his jaw. “We will.”
At this wedding, Jonathan and Argyle can dance the entire time. They can dip and kiss and be wrapped up in each other’s arms. Argyle even lets Jonathan lead a few of their dances, though he’s garbage at it. They can allow themselves to feel the gushy romantic feelings when people give their speeches and when they see the way Lucas and Max look at each other.
Towards the end of the night while people are calling cabs and giving long, midwestern goodbyes, Argyle and Jonathan are seated at their table, messing with the ice in their empty drinks. Argyle holds out his hand and Jonathan places his hand in his.
“I don’t think I can do another dance,” Jonathan says with a yawn. “Plus I think the DJ is packing up for the night.”
Argyle quietly turns Jonathan’s hand so his ring finger is out. Argyle ties the paper from his straw around the finger in a little knot and kisses it gently. Jonathan’s breath is taken away.
“A placeholder,” Argyle explains with a soft smile.
“If you say so.”
“I’ve been saying so,” Argyle teases.
Jonathan picks up his straw wrapper and does the same to Argyle’s ring finger. Kisses it gently and everything. Whispers, “Then I’m saying so too.”
The promise is made at every wedding for the next few years. The whispered dialogue during the ceremony, the paper rings, the closeness during slow dances. Sealing it and sealing it over and over.
Tumblr media
It’s not a Surfer Boy Pizza van anymore, but rather the lookalike van Argyle bought himself after he quit working there. The hunk of junk that holds his entire heart. Jonathan and him drive it all over the country, fluff it up with pillows and a camping mattress, and sleep under the stars. They’re currently in Mexico on a beach, watching the sun start to set behind the miles of the bluest ocean water you’ve ever seen. Jonathan is busy unwrapping their food from the restaurant down the street when Argyle clears his throat.
Jonathan looks up and sees Argyle holding a ring box. He lamely sets the cardboard tins of food behind him and gives Argyle his full attention.
“Jonathan Byers,” Argyle starts, “The most radical dude in the entire universe. Will you do me the honors of being my husband?”
Argyle opens the ring box and it’s stunning.
“When did you‒?” Jonathan asks.
“While you got dinner. Found this adorable little jewelry vendor when we were walking around yesterday and told her to hold onto this for me. I got myself one too but…” Argyle looks at him pointedly, his dark eyes vulnerable and pleading for an answer.
“Yes, dude, yes, of course,” Jonathan laughs, leaning in to kiss him sweetly.
Argyle slides the ring onto his finger and kisses the knuckle. Jonathan slides the other ring onto Argyle’s finger and another laugh bubbles out of him.
“All those years ago, at Joyce and Hopper’s wedding, how did you know?”
“Know what?”
“That we were gonna get married.”
“I didn’t,” Argyle admits. “I just wanted it to happen.”
“But you were so confident,” Jonathan admires. “So sure I’d say yes.”
“I was never sure of that,” Argyle explains. “I just thought if I said it enough, maybe one day, you’d feel the same way. I never really expected you to. I was just a hopeful man.”
“I mean, you threw me for a loop but then, you did start to make some sense. I was starting to think maybe I didn’t want anyone else. Then you kissed me and it was all over,” Jonathan admits bashfully, leaning his head on Argyle’s shoulder.
“So my plan worked,” Argyle states with a confident smile.
“It did, you relentless bastard,” Jonathan sighs as Argyle hugs him close and peppers his face with wet, smacking, ridiculous kisses.

On a day trip to Indie, Robin persuades the gang to visit her favourite curiosity shop.
Browsing, Eddie spies a vintage silk top hat, immediately gravitating towards it.
It costs way more than what Eddie’s got in his pockets, but when is he ever able to resist a cool and quirky trinket?
Sensible Steve says it’s stupid, expensive, when will he ever wear it, blahblahblah. Points out the threadbare fabric, absent ribbon, like what’s even the point, dude?
To everyone else’s delight, Eddie’s prancing around the store, kicking his feet and waggling the hat, singing Willkommen from Cabaret.
Stopping by an ornate mirror, he plonks it on his head, checking the fit.
As he plays with angles and positions, Steve freezes mid-sentence. Observes how it fits perfectly. How the worn, black, silky finish compliments Eddie’s pale skin and accentuates the new ink on his collarbones that’s already framed beautifully by his ripped neckline. How it pushes his bangs a little further over his eyes, and how that somehow makes his stare even more intense, domineering.
Steve swallows hard. Feels his dick stir. Decides against any further words of discouragement.
Robins gushes, “Ohmygoddd, you look sooooo cooooool!”
Jonathan and Argyle agree. Even Nancy says she likes it.
Eddie grins wider than Steve’s ever seen, emptying his pockets and mumbling something about foregoing lunch for a month. The others chip in change, ones and fives, and the storekeeper even knocks off a few bucks for Eddie’s enthusiasm.
Steve proffers a crumpled twenty, ignoring the others’ reactions as he ticks up a half smile and nods at Eddie’s quiet, “Dude, are you sure?”
He mumbles assent, adding, “Man, even if I think it’s a waste o’money, sometimes there’s things you’ve just gotta have. Right?”
Two weeks later, the gang are at The Hideout to watch Corroded Coffin perform.
Eddie’s in his element, at his manic best as he strides onto the stage, and Steve freezes again. Eddie’s wearing his usual skintight jeans, studded jewellery, many-buckled platform boots. But tonight he’s added a black tailcoat adorned with pins and chains. No shirt. And that damned hat. There’s studded leather where the ribbon should be, and the embellishments and silk fabric shimmer under the spotlights. The ensemble has a mildly unsettling vintage charm, and the effect is stunning, garnering whoops and hollers from the crowd.
Eddie struts around like it was made for him. And when he gets too hot on stage, does he take it off? No. The bastard goes and removes his damned jacket instead…
The rest of the group are swaying, bopping their heads. Jonathan and Argyle are even having an air guitar contest.
But Steve can’t move. He’s transfixed by the movements of Eddie’s half-naked body, his ink dancing, sweat glistening on his ivory skin, his commanding presence. And the way that damned hat makes him look like a fucking ringmaster.
Another image crosses Steve’s mind.
He just needs the whip…
And Steve realises, in one earth-shattering moment, that Eddie’s already the master of him.
Things you’ve just gotta have, indeed…
Thanks so much for reading!

and when in s5 we get a scene with will and jonathan together, and will notices jonathan has been acting weird. jonathan is quiet and all over the place, gun in hand even when he’s not that good of a shooter. will knows how badly jonathan hates guns, because will feels the same way. their weight and cold touch are tied to memories of their father, of the cruelty of his voice and the violence in his heart. but jonathan is still holding a gun with a tight grip as if in this moment it was an anchor, pacing around the room and yet always keeping an eye on will. and will gets it.
“you couldn’t have known,” he says. his words get lost in the emptiness of the room and for a second will thinks his brother didn’t hear him, too alert with the sounds coming from the outside.
“what was that?” jonathan asks a moment later.
will’s eyes fall on the gun again and his stomach turns. he looks back up at jonathan’s face and sees it clear as day, there, in the lines at the corners of his mouth and the tension in his brows, will sees the guilt his brother has been carrying around all these years like a gun he can’t let go, as cold and as heavy.
“you couldn’t have known, jonathan. what was about to happen to me… that night.”
this time will’s words make it through jonathan’s walls. he whips his head around and stares at will with wide eyes. “what?”
will purses his lips and fights the knot lodged in his throat. “it wasn’t your fault, what happened. you couldn’t have known.”
jonathan’s expression opens for a second and will sees the raw pain and anger jonathan’s has kept in a tight grip all this time. he watches the self loath swirling in his eyes. then, jonathan’s face folds into a cold purse of lips and a hard stare. “that’s not true.”
“but it is!”
“will, no.” jonathan’s voice trembles and so does will’s. they are both fighting a battle against their tears, and they are both losing.
“jonathan-"
“i should’ve been–"
“i don’t blame you!” will snaps. his voice pierces the silence and sends a chill down his spine. jonathan stares at him, eyes still wide and shoulders tense, looking about a second away from turning around and bolting out the door. he wouldn’t do it, of course. he would never leave will alone. he never has, even if he doesn’t see it that way.
“you were there for me, jonathan. you found me. you brought me back. i don’t blame you for that night, i–" will chokes on his tears. “i never did. but if you can’t stop blaming yourself then at least take credit for everything else, too! for when- when you kept me safe from dad, when you took extra shifts for all of us, when you went after a monster just to get to me. when you… when you told me nothing would ever make you stop loving me. you were there, always. and that night… you couldn’t have known what would happen. no one could’ve. it can’t be your fault.”

How to Rehabilitate a Jock Pt 15
Part One Part Fourteen Link to ao3. Part Sixteen
Not exactly in love with this one but I just needed to move past it at this point RIP
“Jonathan, how are you so bad at this? It’s literally impossible that you are this bad at decorating.” Nancy proclaimed exasperatedly as the two of them watched the garland slip away from her boyfriend and fall to the ground for the fourth time in a row.
Steve snorted at Nancy’s loud declaration, hiding the bright smile on his face behind a hand. The couple had come early to help him set up for the party, but most of their time had been spent choosing various records to listen to throughout the night and making fun of Jonathan’s absolutely abysmal decorating skills.
“I’m Jewish!” Jonathan protested, his cheeks burning a soft red as he began to climb down the ladder once more, “I don’t know how this works!”
“You guys celebrate Christmas too,” Nancy shot back, walking over to grab the garland from the ground and hand it up to him so he didn’t have to come all the way down again.
“Will and my mom do,” Jonathan argued, gearing up for round five with the decorations, “I refuse on principle,”
“Principle,” Nancy huffed, rolling her eyes and turning to Steve with a look. It was a look he knew well, the one that said ‘can you believe him?’.
It was fun to be on the other side of that look
Steve shrugged at her silent question, staying out of the debate as he reached for another glass bauble. His mother was very particular about where on the tree each ornament had to go, and even if she wasn’t going to see it this year, Steve still wanted it to look perfect.
He had no idea why he cared when she obviously didn’t anymore, but maybe Jonathan was right. Sometimes it was about the principle of things.
Speaking of Jonathan, Steve looked away from the tree just in time to see the garland slip out of his hands for a record fifth time. There was no hiding his laughter this time, and Nancy joined Steve in unstoppable giggles as Jonathan gave them both a spiteful scowl.
“Okay, I give up. Decorations are stupid, and impossible, and not worth the effort,” Jonathan grumbled, crossing his arms over his chest and pushing out a short irritated sigh.
“Byers, the night we became friends your house was literally covered in Christmas lights,” Steve joked, scooping up the garland and hopping up onto the other side of the ladder, “I think you can handle it.”
Steve held the decoration up in place, raising his eyebrows and briefly making eye contact before looking at the hammer in Jonathan’s hands.
”Yeah, and do you remember how the house looked, Harrington?” Jonathan asked rhetorically, a wry grin overtaking the grumpy look as he picked up the hammer and began to position the first nail.
“That was the night you guys became friends?” Nancy interjected before Steve could reply.
Steve hummed in consideration, turning his head down to look at her. She was standing just below them, arms crossed as she raised one slim brow in their direction.
“Sure. Why not?” Jonathan shrugged, smacking the nail right on the head.
“Yeah, Nance. Everyone knows that the best way to make friends is killing interdimensional monsters together,” Steve announced, like that was completely common knowledge that she obviously should have known.
There was a brief silence as Nancy and Steve stared each other down, and then she cracked, snorting out a soft huff of laughter and shaking her head. Jonathan snickered from the other side of the ladder, and Steve indulged himself in a slightly cheesy grin.
It was nice, the easy way of things now that they had finally talked. There was nothing hanging over the three of them-
Well, there was nothing hanging over them that they had created. Sure, Steve, Nancy, and Jonathan still had secrets, but they were shared secrets, and that made the weight all the lighter.
“I didn’t know you were Jewish,” Steve said idly as they went back to focusing on the garland.
“On my mom’s side,”Jonathan explained, grabbing the last nail, reaching into Steve’s space to hammer it in, “Now that my dad finally took off for good we can actually talk about it without it starting a fight,”’
Yet another reason to hate Lonnie Byers. Steve didn’t really understand being Jewish or anything, but this obviously mattered to Jonathan, and it didn’t seem like it would be that hard to include some Hanukkah things in with Christmas.
Wait.
“Should I have gotten like a menorah too? Or some kind of special food?” Steve asked as they began to climb down, suddenly worried that he might be acting just like Lonnie by not including something special for their holiday too.
“Hanukkah was almost two weeks ago, Steve,” Jonathan deadpanned, “Don’t worry, all the being Jewish is done for the year,”
Shit. He didn’t even know that. Here he was trying to claim that they were spontaneously friends now, but this was just another reminder of how little Steve actually understood about Jonathan.
He knew Nancy as much as Nancy let anyone know her, but Jonathan was still an X factor. Even after their moment in the Wheeler’s basement, it still felt like there was this fortress around him, a big heavy wall built by years of being jaded and fearful of the way the rest of the world treated him. Jonathan’s mindset seemed to be permanently stuck in hurt before you get hurt- a spikey, reactionary way of living that made him use his words as weapons
Steve understood it, but he wanted to be able to find a way to get around it.
He didn’t want walls. Not with them. Not anymore. He just didn’t know how to start climbing. But apparently Jonathan was going to throw him down a rope.
“But…I appreciate the thought,” Jonathan added in a softer tone when he saw Steve’s wince, awkward and unsure as he carefully avoided eye contact, “It’s nice. That you care. You know?”
Steve didn’t reply because he wasn’t exactly sure what to say, but he gently bumped his shoulder against Jonathan’s, hoping that would say everything he wanted to. Judging by the blush on Jonathan’s cheeks, it had at least had some effect.
Progress was progress. Steve would take it.
He walked back over to the tree, both of the others following him like ducklings, looking slightly lost now that most of the other decorations were up. Steve had smoothly avoided having them by the tree, but now there was no way to keep them back without it seeming weird.
“Okay,” Steve sighed, hating the way his shoulders were automatically starting to tense up, “So Nancy if you want to do the blue ones, they go in a full circle at the bottom, and then a clockwise diagonal spiral up to the top. Clockwise like to the left and up. Jonathan there should be two red ones on every level, so you can do those. Well, up until you get to the last five, then it’s just one red one on every level, because there isn’t enough space. Make sure you space them out enough to leave room, but not spaced out in the same places. When we’re done with the basic ones, we can add the special ones.”
It was the instructions his mother gave him every year, the ones Steve knew by heart. He was an expert in tree decorating by now, and he was used to directing whoever was helping him with a deadly efficiency.
But instead of just starting the way Tommy and Carol might have, Jonathan and Nancy gave Steve a shared look of confusion.
“They’re ornaments, Steve,” Nancy said, slowly, like she was talking to one of the kids, “Wherever we put them should be fine, right?”
No. It wasn’t.
This was the way the tree was supposed to look, the way Steve had decorated it every single year of his life. His mother would get upset if the tree looked wrong, and then his dad would be irritated that she was in a mood, and it would be all Steve’s fault for just not making the tree look the way it was supposed to.
But…
“Hello darling! I guess you’re out with Tommy and Carol right now, but I hope you get home soon. Even when we aren’t there your curfew is still midnight. You know I worry if I don’t know where you are.”
But did she still worry about him? Did his mother know that Steve hadn’t paid attention to curfew since he was about fifteen? She didn’t know he hadn’t spoken to Tommy and Carol in almost a year.
“Listen, Steven, I’m so sorry, but there’s been a slight change of plans. Your father and I were supposed to be home on Christmas Eve, but one of his partners invited us to a Christmas party in New York. We really can’t miss this, not when they’re still considering that merger with Smith and Kinsey. I know you understand.”
But he didn’t. Not really. He understood his father, but why did she have to go with him? Why couldn’t just his mom come back home?
“We’re going to try and come back for a few days between Christmas and New Years. I’ll try to call in the morning on Christmas.”
But she wouldn’t be able to come back. They would find some excuse. Some party, some work event, some reason to not have to be here. They always did.
Ah! Alright, Richard, I’m coming! Sorry, your father brought the car around and he’s honking up a storm. I love you Steven!”
But…
But his mother wasn’t going to see the tree this year.
“Yeah,” Steve agreed, knowing that he had already waited too long to reply and they had caught on that something deeper was at play, “I guess it doesn’t matter.”
Ring. Ring.
Saved by the bell.
“I’ll get the door,” Steve said, relieved for a reason to take away the ornaments. He carefully covered the box and placed it on the table, watching to make sure not a single bauble was jostled out of place. When they were safe, he turned to Nancy and Jonathan, shooting them a winning KingSteve smile.
It was fine. He was fine.
“Nancy, put on some music and Jonathan… you make us some Hanukkah decorations to add in here,” Steve directed, giving them jobs that were far away from the tree.
Rinnnnnnnnng. Ring. Ring. Ring. Ring.
“How am I supposed to-“
“I believe in you!” Steve called out behind him, already walking away before Jonathan could finish his questions. Steve had no idea what a Hanukkah decoration would be, but if it mattered to the Byers, then it mattered to him.
Plus this would be a great distraction from the tree, and the ornaments, and all of the stupid emotions that came with them.
Ring. Ring. Ring. Ring.
“I’m coming!” Steve yelled as the doorbell continued to obnoxiously chime. Someone was pressing on it over and over, and he had a pretty good idea of who was waiting for him on the other side.
Ring. Ring. Ring. Ring. Ring. Ring. Ri-
“Do you know how annoying that is?” Steve said as he opened the door, looking down at Eddie who was bent at the waist, staring at the bell with laser-like intensity as he pressed it as quickly as he could over and over.
Eddie popped up, giving Steve a gremlin smirk and scrunching up his nose in an oddly adorable way.
“We’ve been waiting out here for ages,” Eddie replied, dragging out the word as he tilted his head back and groaned, “I thought you would have the butler standing at attendance waiting for our arrival, Sweetheart.”
“Gave him the week off for the holiday. Sorry, Babydoll,” Steve shot back, rolling his eyes as he looked at the rest of the group waiting on his doorstep and waved them in.
It wasn’t the entirety of Hellfire, not even by half. Jeff and Frank were standing behind Eddie, and no one else. They were bundled up in coats and hats and scarves, a stark contrast to Eddie who was wearing only a long sleeve shirt and a beanie on top of his mountain of curls.
“Just you guys?” Steve asked, trying and failing to hide some of his disappointment. He knew that asking them this late would probably mean that most of them had plans, but it was still a little bit of a let down that they couldn’t even find time to stop by.
“Uh yeah,” Jeff said as he walked past Steve, taking off his scarf as he did and launching into explanations for everyone’s absences. Janet was in Chicago visiting family, Kaiden’s whole clan was out ice fishing for the week, and Rocky was semi-permanently grounded and thus unable to find a way to sneak out with his parents both home from work for the holidays.
“And Gareth?” Steve asked, trying to ignore the way all three of them immediately winced.
“He wasn’t feeling great,” Eddie replied, just a shade too fast.
It was a lie, a really obvious lie, but Steve didn’t call him out on it. Truthfully he hadn’t really expected Gareth to make it anyway. Steve wasn’t the brightest when it came to school, but he was pretty great at reading people, and he knew well enough how Gareth felt about him.
“Are we…early?” Frank asked hesitantly, looking around at the mostly empty house, deftly changing the subject.
Steve furrowed his brow, taking a cursory glance at the clock on the wall just to be sure that he was right.
“Uh yeah? It’s only five?” Steve questioned back, quirking his head to the side, not quite connecting the dots.
Jeff and Frank immediately began to groan, and Eddie ducked his head, hiding his face behind his hair as his cheeks immediately darkened to a deep rouge.
“I told you he said it started at seven!” Jeff shouted, throwing up his hands.
“Dude, you never listen,” Frank snapped, shooting Eddie a fairly severe glare.
“Sorry! I’m sorry,” Eddie sighed, pulling on his curls and giving Steve a sheepish little look, “We can come back later if you want?”
“No, it’s totally fine,” Steve quickly replied, wanting to erase the sadness from Eddie’s eyes as fast as he could. Something about seeing him this way was setting off every one of Steve’s instincts and that just couldn’t stand, “You guys can help us finish setting up,”
“Us?”
“Jonathan and Nancy came early too,” Steve said with a grin.
He was going to make a joke about the fact that they had been invited to come early, unlike the boys, but he hesitated when he saw the instant stormy look that had appeared on Eddie’s face the second he heard their names. His jaw was set tight, and there was a tightness in his shoulders that looked almost painful.
Huh.
“If you guys wanna go through, we’re almost done. Just the tree and a few other things left,” Steve instructed. Jeff and Frank went in past him, but Steve caught Eddie’s sleeve as he walked by, pulling him into a short stop.
“Everything okay?” Steve asked, pitching his voice softer so no one else would catch the question. He wasn’t exactly sure what had happened, but it felt important enough to mention.
Eddie paused for a second before doing a complete one eighty. His eyes got big and wide, far too innocent to be real, and he pulled a thin smile that looked completely wrong.
“All good,” Eddie chirped.
Another way too fast response. Eddie’s tells were so easy. Steve raised a single brow, waiting and seeing if Eddie would crack under the pressure and fess up to the lie.
No dice. Eddie was good at putting up his walls when he needed to be, even if he was crap at lying.
“Seriously, Steve, I’m fine,” Eddie insisted, holding out his hand. Steve sighed, taking it and immediately gasping at the sensation.
It was like touching pure ice.
“Eddie!” Steve exclaimed, reaching out and taking Eddie’s other hand, holding them both tightly in his own. He leaned his head down low, blowing hot air on the two frozen popsicles in his clutches, rubbing Eddie’s fingers to try and get some more blood flowing.
“You need to wear gloves,” Steve lectured, continuing to warm Eddie’s hands, “Frostbite sucks, and it’s like negative two with wind chill! You need a coat to wear your coat too. I know you have one, so where is it? Huh? Just because you like to go against ‘the man’ doesn't mean you get to act dumb. Do you want to get sick? Because this is how you get sick, Eds. If you need gloves, I can lend you a pair. You at least need…”
Steve trailed off after a quick glance upward, his heart stuttering in his chest.
Eddie was staring down at him, his eyes wide with something new that Steve couldn’t quite identify. He almost looked scared, but he wasn’t pulling away. The red was back in his cheeks, but there was no shame on his face, no guilt.
Steve slowly straightened up, still holding Eddie’s hands tightly, his thumb continuing to worry against Eddie’s slightly thawed out palm. Steve’s stomach was doing weird somersaults and when he tried to speak, no words seemed to want to come.
“Um-”
“HEY GUYS!”
Frank’s shout startled them both into action. Eddie ripped his hands away, pulling them in close towards his chest, and Steve jumped about a foot in the air, knocking his shoulder painfully against the wall as he did. He dragged a sharp breath in, eyes scrunching up as a wave of hurt washed down his arm.
“Coming!” Eddie yelped, and Steve opened his eyes just in time to see Eddie hurrying away from him and into the hallway.
His heart lurched again, more painful this time than nervous. Eddie hadn’t even done anything, he had just walked away, but something about it hurt, and it hurt badly. Steve wasn’t sure why he couldn’t stand people walking away from him anymore, but it was even worse when it was Eddie.
Then right at the entrance of the living room, Eddie paused, turning around and facing Steve.
Another long look. Another silence that Steve didn’t know how to break. Even the ache in his shoulder had vanished in the pressure of the moment
But then Eddie held out his hand, a tiny little grin overtaking his features as his eyes went soft and warm.
“You comin’ Sweetheart?”
The tension slid away from Steve’s body at the question, and he nodded. His anxiety melted away, and Steve walked forward, interlocking their fingers and dragging Eddie into the living room.

The Freak With the Plan
Steve, being the supportive boyfriend he is, would not only attend Eddie’s graduation, not only would he bring him flowers, drive all the kids there, clap like a maniac and whistle, but would also ensure the day is everything Eddie dreamed it would be.
When he's done hugging Eddie (Robin and Nancy lean in and block the sight of them so Steve can quickly peck him on the lips), Steve frowns. “Baby, you forgot something.”
Eddie blinks, confused. “I did?”
“Um, yeah! I’ve heard all about your big day plans from Dustin and I remember you mentioning wanting to,” he pauses, trying to recall the exact phrase, “flip principal Higgins the bird. So where was that?”
“Oh that.” Eddie is pulling a strand of hair in front of his face, trying to hide his smile. “Well, maybe I was feeling generous?”
“Hm. Well, I’m not.” Steve returns the smile, but there is a glint of something in his eyes that makes Eddie both terrified and excited. And sure enough, Steve is no quitter. When the principal exits the stage, Steve starts to clap, drawing attention to himself, and then-!
Eddie has his hands full, both trying not to kiss Steve right there and then and also holding down Dustin’s arms because the little shit just wants to join in and damn it, he’s not going to be the reason for Dustin being held back too. He sees Higgins’s eyes go large, but he doesn’t say anything, not when the former King of this humble establishment looks him in the eye, both of his middle fingers still raised for all to see, and calmly says “have a wonderful day, sir. Fantastic ceremony.” Dustin just beams at Eddie and mouths he’s so cool! and Eddie is ready to sign and laminate that quote.
“You absolute madman,” he barks out in laughter when Higgins is out of sight. “You absolute lovable and beautiful madman. Not just one bird, but two. That’s exceeding expectations yet again.”
Steve discreetly squeezes his hand. “Well, not really,” he winks at Eddie. “One of them was from you. I just joined in.”
When a few days later Jonathan knocks on Eddie’s door and, smile tugging at his lips, hands Eddie a photograph of that exact moment, Eddie’s mouth comically open, Dustin radiating enough energy for ten suns and Steve just looking like a “fuck you” to the principal is the most natural thing to do during a graduation ceremony (and Hopper in the background pretending he needs to...see something...very tiny behind Joyce’s head, ostentatively NOT looking at the scene), Eddie could just kiss him too.

The world is full of hate and homophobes... and Mike Wheeler
There’s hate everywhere. Whether it be hatred towards a specific person because of their personality or an entire group for something they couldn’t control, the world was full of ugly people who had to hate other people to love themselves. However, Eddie didn’t expect it to be in the Party.
Yet the first thing that anyone said after he and Steve had walked in the room holding hands was Mike exclaiming his disgust.
“You’re dating?! That’s disgusting, two guys can’t love each other. It’s unnatural,” he sneered in their direction before wildly gesticulating and looking at his friends for their agreement.
The rest of the kids though didn’t agree with him. Will had shrunk into himself, El was glancing from face to face in confusion, Lucas was frowning, and Max and Dustin were glaring at Mike venomously. Nancy and Jonathan were glaring at him with the most anger Eddie had ever seen from them. Poor Robin had turned a sickly shade of green and was itching closer and closer to the back door. Most importantly though, Steve dropped this hand like it was a dead fish. Like the mere act of holding his hand was an atrocious act.
“What the hell is your problem?!”
“They’re our friends, you’re supposed to support your friends!”
“Mike, that’s not cool bro.”
“What is wrong? They love each other. How is that disgusting?”
“Michael Wheeler, you don’t talk to anyone like that much less your family.”
Eddie distantly heard the rest of the Party screaming at Mike but all he could focus on was Steve trembling beside him. He’d had plenty of time to construct an armor against the hate the world could spew. But Steve hadn’t. Steve still saw everything through rose-tinted glasses. He saw the good in people and was continuously surprised at the bad.
“Stevie, it’s okay. It’s just Mike and we both know he’s a repressed little asshole. The rest of the Party accept us and that’s what matters,” Eddie comforted. “I’ll wring the little bastard’s neck later. Let’s go hang out by Robin.”
Steve nodded his head. A look of determination bloomed on his face and he smiled softly at Eddie. “You’ll wring his neck for me?”
“Of course, Stevie. I’m gonna drop kick him like a basketball.”
Soon, Mike’s comment didn’t matter anymore. All that mattered was the sound of Steve’s booming laugh as he made fun of Eddie’s poor sports metaphors. Mike’s comment was forgotten in the face of Steve’s smile and Eddie’s look of loving awe.
There would always be hate but there was change too. The kids would scream and berate Mike until he stopped being such a homophobic prick and saw the error in his ways. He’d apologize to Steve, Eddie, and eventually Will. Things would be okay. And if Mike and Will got together years later, well, Eddie would say he told him so.

For the friends AU - you gotta do the one with the leather pants…I can’t decide who would be that character, but I think it would be hilarious!
I really enjoyed the first snippet. Made me feel like I was watching both Friends & ST! Great job!
I thought about this for so long, and then it just hit me. Eddie and Argyle. Eddie with the leather pants, obviously, and Argyle on the other line. Hope it lives up to expectations, I kind of let it run and they end up having a deeper conversation at the end (for set up purposes). But still funny.
The One with the Leather Pants
(for this one, imagine like a sitcom split screen, switching pov on a phone call type situation)
Eddie sits frantically on the toilet, waiting for Argyle to pick up the phone. He’s wearing nothing by a T-shirt and tight boxers, his leather pants halfway up his calves. It was broiling in the apartment he was in. And, in an attempt to leave silently after his latest hookup, he brought his clothes to the bathroom to clean up and get out. But his pants would not slide up his legs any higher. He can’t exactly walk out of here pants-less in the middle of the night.
“Hey dude,” Argyle says when he picks up the phone. Lounging on his couch in baggy pajamas while watching tv.
“Thank god, I didn’t wake you, did I?” Eddie sighs in relief.
“Nah, dude. I was up watching some tv. What’s up?”
Eddie looks down at his legs, letting out another sigh in premature defeat. “I got a kind of situation.”
Argyle leans his head on his hand. “What kind of situation?”
“You know those leather pants I wear when I go out sometimes. Well, I wore them out tonight, met a guy, we went back to his place to hook up. And his apartment is like a million degrees, and I was sweating a lot. So, to make an already long story short, I can’t get my pants back on.”
Argyle nods, taking in the information. “Huh, that’s rough dude.”
“I’m aware,” Eddie says while raising his eyebrows. “Any idea what to do?”
“I don’t know,” he says while scratching his chin. “Not exactly the best at this stuff. Should have called Nancy. Or Robin, she would know.”
Eddie presses his hand against his forehead. “Yeah, I know, but I didn’t want to get laughed at and humiliated, so I called you.”
“Aww, that’s kind of sweet. Hold on, let me think.”
“I’m up for literally anything right now, I can’t get them past my knees.”
“Is the guy you’re with still up, can you ask him if it’s cool for you to take a shower to cool down and wash the sweat off.”
Eddie glances at the closed door, knowing that the guy is passed out. “Not exactly. And I’ve put on leather pants after a shower before, it’s still not the best.”
Argyle hums. “Ok, so something else to get the sweat off your legs. Is there baby powder there?”
Eddie awkwardly stands up and waddles to get in front of the medicine cabinet. Shaking his head to get rid of the voice in his head saying not to look through someone’s stuff. He opens the cabinet to find a small bottle of baby powder. “Yeah, weirdly enough.”
“Try that.”
It could be worse. Eddie puts his phone on the counter and pours the baby powder into his hand. More comes out that he means to, making it puff into the air when he starts to rub it on his legs. In desperation, he forgets to wash the excess off his hands and tries to pull his pants up. He gets it just past his knees before the leather slips out of his hands. Eddie grabs the counter in order to not fall over.
Now realizing his mistake, Eddie stands and washes the baby powder off his hands and tries again. Still doesn’t work.
“Yeah, that didn’t work,” he says after picking up the phone again.
“Damn, ok. Do you think it has to do with the sweat on your legs or that they widened a bit with the heat?”
Eddie crosses his arm and grabs his elbow, leaning against the sink. “Probably the heat thing, I don’t know,” he says with a tilt to his head.
Argyle hums again. “Lotion to try and slide the pants up your legs?”
“I’m not going to get lotion on my pants, that’s going to be a bitch to clean. How would that even work?”
“Imagine it, dude, a little lube so everything can get to where it needs to go.”
Eddie snorts. “Not imagining what you want, but it made me laugh.”
Argyle takes a second before bursting out laughing through the phone. “Yeah, ok, I see it now. Maybe try wetting a washcloth, or something, with cold water, try to cool your legs down.”
“That’s not a bad idea. Will take a while thought, was trying to leave without the guy noticing.”
“Ohh, one of those types of hookups. You should have at least said goodbye to the guy.”
Eddie finds a spare hand towel and turns on the tap. After the water gets cold, he wets the towel and wrings it out. Sitting back on the toilet, he drapes the towel over his legs and just waits.
“I said goodnight, that’s enough for a lot of people. I just, didn’t want him to get attached. I’m fine with casual stuff, just not ready for something serious yet.”
“I see, still burned from the last one. I got you.”
Eddie leans back on the toilet. “Hard not to be burned when you give three years to someone, move to a new city, leaving everything that you know, and they figure he’s been cheating on you for months.”
Argyle nods his head in understanding. “Yeah, it’s sucks. But you can’t let that hold yourself back, dude. You got so much to give, you’ll find someone else sometime.”
“Yeah,” Eddie sighs. “I know. I’m just scared to get hurt again.”
“Getting hurt sucks, I know, I’ve been there. But you never know what’s going to happen if you don’t try.”
Eddie makes a thoughtful face, knowing exactly who he’s been running away from. What feelings he’s been trying to avoid.
“When I called you, I didn’t exactly expect a midnight therapy session.”
Argyle snorts. “I am known for my midnight therapy. But seriously though, if you’re not ready to date yet, that’s fine, dude. But, when you are, I think he might be waiting for you too.”
Eddie opens his mouth slightly in shock. “I don’t exactly know who you’re talking about.”
“I have eyes, dude. I see you staring. And I also see him staring back. But no pressure, this is your timetable, not mine.”
“Thank you. Why are you up anyway? Don’t you go to bed at like ten?” Eddie stands, draping the now warm towel up on the towel rack.
“Jonathan’s a chronic insomniac, so I stay up with him sometimes when it gets bad. Sometimes being around someone else helps him fall asleep.”
Eddie’s eyes widen. “Has he been there the entire time I’ve been talking to you?”
Argyle turns to face Jonathan, who was sitting next to him the whole time, half asleep. “Yeah, but I’m like ninety percent sure he’s asleep.”
“Ninety percent! Poke him, see if he moves or something.”
“I’m not going to wake him up, dude. What do you not get about chronic insomniac?”
“Fine, I guess that’s fair. Hold on, I’m trying this again.”
It’s a struggle, and Eddie may have hit his head on the counter, but he gets his pants up. Zips them even.
“I got them, thanks for picking up. Mind keeping this between us?
“I can only promise that if Jonathan is actually asleep. He’s a huge gossip when he wants to be.”
“I’m praying that he is. How’s that going, by the way?” Eddie asks, turning the tables back on Argyle.
Argyle stares, a bit longingly, at his best friend sleeping on the couch. A blanket that Argyle draped over him earlier, tucked underneath his chin. “I don’t know.”
“Well, you’re not the only one I’ve seen staring either. And out of the both of us, your situation is a lot better than mine.”
Argyle smiles. “I don’t believe that but thank you.”
“No problem. Talk to you later. I’ll buy you a drink tomorrow as a thank you.”
“No need, dude. Text me when you get back to your place.”
“Will do,” Eddie hangs up the phone. He cleans up the small mess in the bathroom he made with the baby powder before leaving. Grabbing his keys from the kitchen counter and, successfully, leaves unnoticed.

@steddiemas Day 7 - Mall and/or Job
pairing: steddie | word count: 1,884 | rated: G
Tumblr media
“Munson Residence, wha'd’ya want?” Eddie groans into the receiver.
Whoever this is better be someone super fucking important to have woken him up with their damn ringing. He’s surprised Wayne didn’t wake up too, but it’d be kinda hard to hear the phone over those snores.
“Eddie! Thank god,”
Oh. Steve! Very important, actually.
“Oh, hey Steve, what’s up?”
“Eddie, can you do me a huge favor?”
“Yeah, of course, what’s wrong?” he immediately spirals into what all could have gone wrong, what could be going wrong. Everything dark blue and cold, vine-y and the flashing of red lightning—
“Nothing, nothing–well, something.. Can you please run to my place later today and grab my lunch? I forgot it this morning and I know I’m not going to be able to run back and get it and get back in time to eat it before my break is over.”
“Your lunch?” “Yeah, I packed one this morning but left it on the counter. There’s a key under the mat and everything.” Eddie barks out a laugh, “Tryin’ to get robbed, big guy?”
“I don’t care about any of the shit in that house.” Steve scoffs. He shrugs even though Steve can’t see him. “Fair enough. Sure Stevie, I’ll bring your lunch; when do you want me there?” “Dude, you’re the best; My lunch break is right at noon, can you be here just before then?”
“Got it. Five to noon at Family Video.” he drawls out as if he’s writing the information down.
“Uh, actually…not Family Video..”
A short two hours later, Eddie finds himself among a throng of people inside Melvald’s. He has to fight his way forward at first, but the crowd thins out as he gets closer to the registers.
Damn, he’s not even that far into the store and he feels like he’s ran a mile.
“Ms. Byers!”
“Oh! Hello Eddie, what brings you here?” “Steve called and asked if I could drop off his lunch to him. Do you know where he is? I didn’t even know he was working here.”
Joyce just grins at him. It’s weirdly mischievous. “Only temporarily, he’s near the back of the store. Just head back there and I’m sure you’ll find him.”
“Uh..thanks. See ya later Ms. B.”
He wanders toward the back of the store through the aisles, but stops up short when a fake white picket fence blocks his path.
The whole back corner of the store has been covered in fake felt snow, a couple of those fake plastic trees like Steve’s (though these are a normal size), a candy-striped ‘North Pole’, and dozens of paper snowflakes hang from the ceiling between what seems like hundreds of string lights.
And there, sitting in the middle of it on a throne that looks suspiciously like the one he used to use during Hellfire, is Steve. Dressed in a Santa suit. With long white beard, big ol’ belt and buckle, shiny black boots..
“Psst!”
He’s got something stuffed into his Santa jacket to give him the right shape, and even some small half-moon glasses, but those sparkling eyes, the freckles, that one swoop of brown hair stubbornly sticking out from under the fuzzy brim of his hat, that’s all Steve.
“Eddie!”
Santa Steve is fully enraptured by whatever story the kid on his knee is telling him, their hands waving every which way but somehow missing smacking Santa right in the face. Steve just continues to nod along, then gives them a hearty “Ho Ho Ho!” when they try to squeeze their tiny arms around his fake belly.
“Eddie!!”
He glances over at the sound of his name, and sees Robin waving frantically at him from her spot at old school music stand-turned-podium. She’s got on some sort of outfit that honestly looks like it was supposed to be a jester costume, where’d she even get that from?
His feet start toward her, but his eyes fall back on Steve Claus, now posing for a picture with the kid who’s smiling so wide it looks like his face will split in half.
Managing to take his eyes off Steve for a moment, he sees Jonathan behind the camera, and that Argyle kid is crouched in front of Robin, talking to the next kid in line to see Santa. All three of them are wearing matching jester costumes.
Eddie steps up to her podium after Argyle and the new kid pass in front of him to see Steve, “Family Video not paying enough, Birdie?”
She rolls her eyes, “Well, the extra cash doesn’t hurt. Joyce asked us to help out.”
He nods at her, and finds his eyes drifting back to Santa Steve.
This kid is much more shy than the last one, tilting her head down and taking short glances up at Steve’s face.
Steve is saying something to her, a low comforting sound that Eddie can only make out the tone of. His one hand covers the entirety of her upper back, and his thumb is moving up and down to try and soothe her nerves. His head is ducked down to be more level with her, looking at her over those half-moon glasses.
Suddenly, the girl’s head snaps up and Steve leans back a bit. “Yeah?” he hears him say.
The girl grins, nodding her head like crazy, then she too is squeezing Steve into a hug. It’s so unfairly endearing, he can actually feel his heart swelling in his chest.
Robin speaks up then, “So..?”
“So?” he repeats dumbly.
“So wha’d’ya think, Munson?”
“Does he need a Mr. Claus?”
He regrets the words as soon as they’re out of his mouth.
“Uh, wait, I mean Mrs.–Do you have— is someone going to—”
Eddie chances a look over at her…she’s wearing a smug, shit-eating grin. She leans toward him conspiratorially and mumbles out “I wouldn’t mind a Mrs. Claus myself.”
She leans back, still looking smug, but there’s a note of panic in her eyes.
He lets out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. “So would he.” he mumbles out himself, jerking his chin towards Steve.
Robin only shrugs “You never know.”
“You never—what do you know, Buckley?” he asks, stepping closer and pointing an accusing finger into her still smug face.
“I know that there’s some mistletoe hanging above the breakroom door.”
He’s confused for just a moment, then understanding floods through him, “You little—”
A short whistle interrupts his incoming tirade, and Eddie can see Steve Claus moving out of the corner of his eye.
“Sorry folks, it’s time for Santa’s Cookie break!” Robin calls out over the long line of people. “He’ll be back in 30 minutes though, don’t you worry!” the smile falls off her face as soon as she turns her back to them.
Eddie follows her, Jonathan, and Argyle toward the back rooms, “I’m gonna take a nap.” She says, “Tell Santa to grab me before he goes back.” She waves toward a door as she passes it and from the sprig of greenery hanging above it, this must be the breakroom.
Robin takes a right down a turn in the hall, and Jon and Argyle push out the back door of the building.
He expects more of the same when he opens the door to the breakroom, for Steve to huff and grouse about the kids or the parents or something, but when he does, Steve is grinning ear to ear as he combs through his (now removed) fake beard.
“Hey Santa Stevie.”
“Eds!”
“I’ve got your lunch.” he holds up the brown paper bag for Steve to see. Steve nods, and lays the beard out on an empty chair, taking off his hat and glasses too and setting them both on top before stepping forward to grab the bag. “And you have hat hair.” Eddie laughs.
Steve’s free hand jumps to his head and scruffs up the long hairs, making them stick up every which way instead of just being plastered down on his forehead.
“Better?”
“Sure, big guy.” Eddie pokes Steve’s fake belly.
Steve chuckles, then heads to a table in the corner where he dumps out his lunch bag.
“So what’d Past Steve pack for Future Steve?” Eddie asks, plopping down in a chair kitty-corner from Steve’s. “Bologna and mustard sandwich, Doritos, and half of a leftover Hellfire cookie.”
“And a Coke,” Eddie says, taking a can out of his jacket pocket, “I grabbed one for you from your fridge.”
“Thanks, Eddie.” Steve smiles warmly at him. “You want some?”
“No way dude, you gotta get your energy back after dealing with all those kids, right?” Eddie says, waving him off.
“Eh, some of them are little assholes, but most of them are really well behaved.” he’s ripping his sandwich in half, “Gotta impress Santa, right?”
He offers him one half, and Eddie takes it.
“It’s really not a bad gig, though the beard is itchy as hell…”
Steve starts talking about some of the kids who have come by in the last couple days of them doing this, having started on that past Monday, the 1st.
There were the kids asking for baseball bats, Lincoln Logs, Malibu Barbie, Rockstar Barbie (“Barbie’s a rockstar now?”, “Barbie can be anything, I guess.”), all the usual things.
Then there were kids that asked for actual Santa stuff, “I don’t want my mom and dad to get a divorce.”, “I wish I had some friends.”, “I want my grandpa to get better.”
“Makes me wish I actually was Santa, y’know? Then maybe I could actually help them.”
Eddie’s heart is definitely getting way too fuckin’ big for his chest.
He puts his hand on Steve’s forearm where it’s resting on the table between them. “You are a good man, Steve Harrington.”
Steve’s face flushes nearly as red as his suit. “Thanks, Eddie.” he glances above Eddie’s head then, “I better go wake up Robin, if she naps too long on top of the potatoes, she gets cranky.”
Eddie snorts out a laugh, “Yeah, better get on that.”
Steve stands up and tugs on his hat, not bothering to put on the beard and glasses yet. The fuzzy white band smushes a lock of his hair onto his forehead.
“Hold on,” Eddie stands as well, reaching forward to tuck the hair under the bottom of Steve’s hat. “Now you’ll be ready to see your adoring public.”
“Thanks,” Steve laughs, walking with him toward the door.
And of course, Eddie forgot all about the damn mistletoe until Steve’s arm stops him in the doorway.
‘Jesus H. Christ…’
He glances over at Steve, then up at the offending plant..
Eddie looks back down, out toward the rest of the store where they’d be clearly visible in the doorway.
“I guess you owe me one, huh big boy?” Eddie chuckles, ‘Stupid plant, stupid Robin, stupid Ed–’
His thoughts are cut off when Steve tugs him back into the breakroom, moves him against the wall, and leans down to press a kiss to his cheek. The opposite to the kiss he’d given Steve three weeks ago.
Steve leans back, a smirk on his lips and a pink flush on his face. “Now we’re even.” he winks, then turns out the door to wake up Robin.

a steddie request eddie invites a few people to an open mic night and makes sure steve sings something, and they are both really into each other singing ty
Sorry that I have become obsessed with the idea of Steve singing Cherry Bomb at the top of his lungs like his life depends on it (maybe in my head this is his Vecna song what of it). I think it would absolutely send Eddie into a whole spiral because that is NOT what Steve usually listens to and that is NOT the vibe he expected for the evening here. This was a fun little break between two very serious requests and I hope you all enjoy something fun and cute! - Mickala ❤️
-----------------------------------------------------
Steve hated karaoke. He hated watching it, he hated performing, he hated that he was usually in a loud bar when it happened.
But Robin insisted he come, insisted that Eddie wanted him there, and it would be “fun.”
And maybe if he’d been drinking, it would have at least been entertaining. It wasn’t.
Drunk girl after drunk girl took the stage, all of them butchering Joan Jett and Cyndi Lauper and ABBA.
Steve was extra mad about the ABBA.
But he was trying to let it go, trying to relax. Robin was having a blast, Eddie was having a blast, even Nancy had put her name on the list to sing.
Eddie wanted everyone to sing something, but Steve had avoided putting his name on the list so far.
Or he thought he did.
“Steve Harrington!”
The announcer said in the mic.
Nope. No. Not happening. Whoever did this was going to die.
He shook his head and glared at Robin.
“I’m not getting up there.”
“Come on! Eddie wants you to!”
“Why should he want me to? Why isn’t he going?”
“I am going. Right after you,” Eddie said from behind him, an annoying and attractive smirk in place.
“You should take my turn.”
“No, you should have a little fun.”
“This isn’t fun for me.”
Eddie shrugged.
“Okay.”
But the way he walked over to his seat, not quite pouting, but close to it, had Steve already reconsidering.
His stupid cute face and his stupid excitement and stupid sad puppy eyes when his hopes and dreams got dashed.
Ugh.
Steve stood up.
“Fine!” He threw his arms up and started walking towards the stage area.
He heard everyone talking behind him, and when he looked back, Eddie’s smile was huge.
That alone was worth it, he supposed.
He approached the announcer, hands in his pockets.
“What song did he sign me up for?”
“Cherry Bomb.”
“Of course.”
Steve couldn’t even be that mad.
It was a good choice, underrated for karaoke, and one of Steve’s favorites.
Eddie knew that, but no one else did.
“You know the words or do you need the sheet?”
“I know the words, thanks.”
Steve could probably sing this song backwards.
He stepped on the stage, walked to the mic, and waved to the group he came with. He would get this over with, finish his drink, and head home. Simple as that.
Eddie was beaming back at him, and when the music started, Steve felt nerves hit him.
Everyone in the bar cheered when the music started, including Robin.
Something in Steve shifted when he started singing. He felt like he needed to commit completely, put on the best performance he possibly could. Make Eddie proud.
So he started getting into it, growling into the mic and throwing his head back, letting his hips move in ways he usually reserved for the bedroom.
It was very ridiculous, but it was worth it to see Eddie’s reaction.
His jaw was wide open, eyes barely blinking. He couldn’t take his eyes off of Steve, even when his friend Gareth tried to nudge him.
Steve didn’t think about it, didn’t want to let himself hope that somehow Eddie might actually have feelings for him.
As soon as he finished the song, his adrenaline levels crashed.
His hands shook as he left the stage, and his vision blurred around the edges. He walked straight to the bathroom, barely registering the announcer calling for Nancy.
He needed a moment.
But he didn’t get one.
The bathroom door crashed open just as he was leaning over the sink to splash some cold water on his face.
Robin was standing there, hands on her hips, scowl on her face.
“You broke Eddie!”
“What?”
“He can’t even get up. He’s broken.”
“How is that my fault?”
“You were like…sexy or something.”
Steve snorted.
“Don’t hurt yourself.”
“I don’t know! He hasn’t moved and hasn’t spoken. He’s broken.”
Steve splashed his face carefully, didn’t want to spend the rest of the night soaked. The cold water helped him calm down and regain some feeling in his extremities.
“He’s the one who signed me. He’s the one who picked the song.”
“I don’t think he would’ve if he knew you’d go full Freddie Mercury up there.”
Steve rolled his eyes.
“I did not.”
“You did! For someone who didn’t even wanna come, you sure gave 120%.”
“I just sang the song. I got it over with. I might head out actually.”
“Before Eddie sings?”
“You just said he was broken.”
Robin huffed, crossing her arms against her chest.
“Can you just come out there and watch?”
Steve knew he had to. He couldn’t just leave, not after that, not after Eddie reacted that way.
“Okay.”
His shoulders fell, and he settled himself in for a long night.
They both made their way back out to the table where everyone was watching Nancy completely butcher Blondie. It was fine when she did it, she was having fun and she deserved to have fun. They all did.
Robin sat in the end seat, forcing him to sit next to a suspiciously still Eddie.
They didn’t look at each other, but their thighs were so close, Steve could feel the heat coming from his body.
He was going to die.
He hadn’t even told Robin he liked Eddie yet, had barely come to terms with it himself. Not only did he have an entire crisis about liking a man, but that man was Eddie.
That crisis was actually worse.
Steve watched Eddie’s fingers drum on the table in front of them, not going to the beat of the song wrapping up.
“Alright everyone! Got a real treat for you next! Eddie Munson’s gonna play and sing for us tonight!”
There were some cheers, most of which came from their own table, as Eddie stood up and hustled over to the accouncer, who was handing him an acoustic guitar.
Eddie didn’t usually play acoustic, did he?
What was happening?
Everyone at the table was staring at Steve.
What was happening?
“Hi everyone. Thanks for letting me break the rules a bit for karaoke,” Eddie said softly into the mic, nothing like his usual big personality coming through.
He was usually comfortable on stage, not scared to be even more over the top. This wasn’t like him at all.
Steve felt like he might puke and he didn’t even know why.
Eddie strummed a few times, wincing when he realized it was a bit out of tune.
“Sorry, just give me a second to tune it.”
Everyone seemed patient, mostly curious as to what he could possibly be doing.
And then Eddie started playing for real. It took everyone in the bar a minute to really know what he was playing, but when he started singing, Steve melted.
Eddie Munson was playing an acoustic version of Time After Time in a packed bar. And he was looking at Steve while he sang.
Steve couldn’t even find it in himself to be embarrassed over the attention, he was too busy being completely in love.
Eddie was a metalhead through and through, made fun of all of Steve’s music frequently, and never seemed to like anything that didn’t have wild guitar solos.
But if he was performing this song on his own up there, that meant he’d not only been listening to it a lot, but also teaching himself the guitar for it and the words.
Steve knew it was for him. It was obvious it was for him.
Everyone in this bar would probably figure out it was for him if they followed Eddie’s gaze.
That was a risk, but Steve honestly didn’t care right now.
Robin squeezed his knee, smiling over at him like she knew.
“Oh my God.”
“What?” She asked innocently.
“You knew. That’s why you dragged me here. That’s why you made me come back out of the bathroom.”
Robin shrugged.
Did everyone in their group know?
He looked around at them, everyone’s smirking faces pointed right at him.
These motherfuckers knew.
“You guys are…okay? With it?”
He couldn’t help but ask, his eyes focused back on Eddie so he didn’t have to see any type of disgust or disappointment on their faces.
“Dude, Eddie has had the hots for you for so long, I kinda forgot you weren’t into men for a while. It just felt like you two were dancing around each other, ya know?” Gareth replied from the end of the table.
No, he didn’t. He didn’t think he’d ever been obvious, often putting extra space between himself and Eddie when he felt like he would do something stupid like kiss him.
“You are into him though, right? He’s not doing this for no reason?” Jonathan added, suddenly concerned that Eddie was making a fool of himself for nothing.
“No, I’m into him. Unfortunately,” Steve replied, eyes focusing back on the way Eddie managed to hit the high notes.
As he finished, the crowd gave a standing ovation, probably just glad he hadn’t gotten up there to sing Black Sabbath or something like he usually did.
Steve watched as he handed the guitar back to the announcer and slowly turned to look back at the table.
The announcer was saying someone’s name, but Steve didn’t hear it.
The way Eddie was looking at him.
He stood up and started walking towards the bathroom again, hoped Eddie would be smart enough to follow him.
He was.
The moment the bathroom door closed behind Eddie, Steve was on him, his lips meeting Eddie’s like they were magnets.
Eddie groaned into it, his hands grasping at Steve’s hips and pulling him impossibly closer, pushing their hips together until all they could feel was each other.
When they finally came apart, just enough to rest their foreheads together, Eddie huffed out a laugh.
“What’s so funny?”
“If I knew singing Cyndi Lauper would get you, I would have done this a year ago.”
Steve rolled his eyes and leaned in for another kiss.
They started to get carried away again, Steve’s hands running up Eddie’s chest and settling over his heart.
“You always make fun of my music.”
“Because it’s terrible music.”
“But you just sang it in front of about 100 people.”
“I sang it in front of you. Other people were just there.”
“You’re an idiot.”
“But I’m your idiot. Right?”
He suddenly looked nervous, like he spoke too soon or assumed too much.
“Of course you are. I’m so stupidly in love with you, I can’t let you be anyone else’s idiot,” Steve said, leaning in for another kiss.
“You love me? Seriously?”
“Yeah, seriously.”
“Holy shit.”
Steve smacked his chest gently.
“Do you love me back or am I just here to confess my stupid feelings in a bar bathroom alone?”
“I just sang Cyndi Lauper in front of 100 people for you. I think it’s clear I love you.”
Steve smirked.
“Good.”

Deleted Season 4 scene (only in my head):
Steve couldn't stomach to watch Nancy and Jonathan hug. It wasn't that he was jealous. . .he just felt left out. Robin placed her hand on his back in sympathy as he turned away from them. A moment later, he felt someone tap him in on the shoulder. He turned around and flinched slightly at the sight of Jonathan. Would he punch Steve? Jonathan smiled softly and pulled him into a hug. Oh! Apparently not. Jonathan's arm went around his neck, hugging him tightly. Steve froze for a moment before returning the hug, his arms encircling his waist. This felt right, just as right as when Nancy touches him. Steve couldn't stop his face from heating up or his heart beating rapidly in his chest. Jonathan pulled back, rubbing the marking on Steve’s neck with a frown. Steve’s hands didn't leave his hips.
"You got hurt again," Jonathan frowned.
"It's not like I did it on purpose," Steve scowled. "It keeps happening."
Meanwhile, Robin was studying her best friend rather intently. She knew about the phone calls he had with Jonathan when Steve would check up on Will and Joyce, but she didn't think he was falling for a guy, let alone his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend. Jonathan turned to Robin, his eyes catching onto the fact that her hand was still on his back. Jonathan's expression soured a bit, not very noticeable, but enough for Robin to recognize that he was jealous. Nancy realized it too.
"Robin, right?" Jonathan asked. "So I guess you and Steve got rather close after Starcourt. He talks about you all the time."
Nancy elbowed him in the side, smiling in amusement.
"We don't have to worry about her. They're just friends," Nancy said with a grin. "Platonic with a capital P!"
Jonathan's face softened so quickly and then turned to guilt. Robin almost laughed.
"Sorry," Jonathan said softly, his cheeks pink.
"Did you guys have a reason to worry about her?" Steve asked.
"A very good one," Nancy said softly and placed her hand on his arm.
This time, when Jonathan hugged Steve, Nancy hugged him as well. Robin took her hand off his back, smiling at the sight of her best friend in good hands. For a moment, it felt like everything was going to be alright, and Robin had hope.

Jonathan Byers might be the stupidest person on the planet. Because why...WHY did he ask Steve Harrington to model for his photography final? Why did he think he would ever be able to focus enough to capture what he needs to? Why did he wait until the last week of the semester and now, there's no time to ask anyone else and he doesn't want to hurt Steve's feelings—
“Hey,” Steve says, interrupting Jonathan's thought spiral. “Is this where you want me?”
Jonathan looks up from his clipboard and camera to see Steve standing on top of the stool. Jonathan had sent him away with a costume he borrowed from the drama department and hadn't heard him come back in.
Steve is dressed in a toga. The crossbody strap is smaller than it would be on anyone else across his broad, hairy chest. The end of the toga rests delicately on his upper thighs, an inch away from being too short. Steve has quaffed his beautiful hair up and a plastic, golden crown of leaves sits amongst the brunette locks.
All of the moisture in Jonathan's mouth evaporates as he takes in Steve in this, what should have been, almost ridiculous outfit. Instead, Steve is absolutely striking in it and Jonathan is going to lose his mind before he even gets the lights set up.
“Uh, yeah, just hold there,” Jonathan croaks so he clears his throat. “I still have some things to set up.”
“Cool,” Steve replies simply. He shifts from foot to foot, tied up in lacy sandals. He looks around the studio that Jonathan has set up and smiles.
“Excited to see you do your thing,” Steve says. Jonathan trips over a cable.
“What?”
Steve glances over his shoulder and his face is so genuine when he says, “I wanna see you in the zone, you know?”
Jonathan blinks and ducks his head. “In the zone,” he repeats lamely.
“Yeah,” Steve smiles. “I mean, I've seen you take pictures before but never all done up like this. And this concept is really cool, I hope I can do it justice.“
Jonathan's assignment was to take from an existing piece of art, something not photography related, and recreate it. He's always been fascinated by the coliseums and marble statues of Greece, all the Gods and warriors of that time. As he was researching, the only thing that came to his mind was “Steve, Steve, Steve” and before he could even think twice, he shot him a text asking for his help.
“You will, man,” Jonathan barely speaks above a mumble.
Steve hums a song Jonathan doesn't know in the silence that follows. Jonathan finishes setting up all the lights and drawing the curtains of the room. He tries to pull up the screen behind Steve but can't get it to sit on the designated pole.
Steve reaches over him, his stomach resting on Jonathan's shoulder, and hooks the screen into place. Jonathan glances up at Steve's towering figure and swallows dryly. His muscular arm is bulging, his head is cast in the light from behind them like an angel.
Steve winks and says, “You can put me to work, Byers. I don't mind.”
Jonathan's not sure that the thing that tumbles out of his lips is a laugh, per se, more like a weak, nasally huff of air. But he can't focus on that right now because he needs to stop breathing in Steve's cologne. He escapes to the other side of the room.
“You're going to be doing plenty today, I promise,” Jonathan responds while he sets up a little table next to his camera for his notes. “Why don't we start with you sitting?”
Steve sits on the stool with his legs spread, not even realizing that he's near exposing himself through the skirt. Jonathan squeaks and Steve glances down.
“Oh shit,” Steve says, crossing his ankles. “Not used to that happening.”
“It's fine, I didn't see anything,” Jonathan mumbles, writing down nothing on his clipboard of notes.
“I didn't go full commando under here,” Steve clarifies with a small laugh. “I'm just glad I wore white boxers today--”
And yeah, Jonathan didn't need that image either. He starts adjusting his camera on the tripod and says, “Sorry, I should have been more clear about your costume.”
“Nah man, it's alright. I kinda dig it. If we shoot outside, I'm sure the breeze will feel so good.”
Outside? No, Jonathan can't see Steve basking in the sun like this. He wouldn't survive that.
“Gonna have to settle for the AC, I'm afraid,” Jonathan says with a fumbling laugh. “Okay, first shot. I'm thinking you tilt your legs to the side, almost like you're lounging on the stool. Then pop the shoulder closer to the wall up while keeping the other down. Look up at the ceiling.”
Steve follows his instructions but he tilts his whole head up instead of just his eyes.
“Chin down a bit, look with the eyes.”
“Like this?” Steve asks, voice innocent though it runs hot through Jonathan's ears.
Jonathan looks through his viewfinder to see Steve absolutely glowing. His brown eyes holding so much casual emotion that it tugs at Jonathan's heart.
“Mhm. Perfect,” Jonathan captures a few shots like that before directing him to the next shot. And the one after.
Steve nails it over and over again, looking exactly like the ethereal Gods and tragic heroes Jonathan read about. Jonathan keeps telling him he's doing amazing, that he looks amazing. He can see Steve try to fight off his smile for the sake of not ruining the shot. Jonathan wonders if he could shoot that smile someday just for the sake of letting him be happy.
“You're going to give me a big head,” Steve says when they take a break.
“Please,” Jonathan scoffs. “You already have one.”
Steve pouts playfully when he's done sipping his water. “I'm better than I was.”
Jonathan shakes his head with a fond smile. He looks at Steve directly and says, “Yeah, you are.”
Steve's lips part in surprise but then he quickly tilts his head away, sipping more water. Steve tsks. “Compliment after compliment, Byers. I should be your model more often.”
Jonathan's cheeks burn hot. “Yeah, yeah, tell your friends. C'mon, let's get back to it.”
The new few shots require Steve to show off his muscles which had to have been an idea of a deliriously horny Jonathan Byers. He could kill that guy.
“Okay, hold your hands up and behind your head. Then, uh,” Jonathan stammers, “Flex your arms for me.”
Steve raises his eyebrows but he does flex. It's not that Steve Harrington is absolutely shredded; rather, he has the toned muscles of a casual jock. He just cares about his body and his strength. It doesn't make it any less debilitating to witness.
“G-good, that's good,” Jonathan mumbles.
“You good, Byers?” Steve asks. His smirk grows less subtle every fleeting second it takes for Jonathan to respond. “Wishing for someone more buff?”
“No,” Jonathan defends immediately. “No, uh, no, you're good. Great, even.”
“What should I do with my face?” Steve asks.
“Keep it smug like that,” Jonathan says, a little bite to his words that comes from the roaring zoo currently in his stomach.
“Smug,” Steve scoffs, voice still teasing. “Just trying to figure you out.”
Jonathan ignores that, he does not need to be figured out today and especially not by Steve Harrington.
He takes the shot and instructs Steve to hold one arm up to the side while the other pretends to hold something. Steve stands awkwardly, clenching and unclenching the fist that's supposed to be acting right now.
“Can you show me?” Steve asks.
“Sure,” Jonathan says. He rounds the camera and is about to demonstrate making an “O” with his fist but Steve holds out his hand and Jonathan doesn't think before he takes it. He shapes Steve's fingers gently and places his arm outstretched to his side. Steve just watches him.
“Should I actually hold something?” Steve asks.
“No, I'm gonna edit something in later,” Jonathan explains, awkwardly dropping Steve's hand because he realizes he's still holding it.
“Like what?”
“I can't decide if it's going to be a sword or a lightning bolt. Armor, maybe,” Jonathan shrugs then looks up at Steve who is beaming at him.
“You can do that?”
“Y-yeah. Photoshop and all.”
“That's so fucking sick,” Steve exclaims. “You're gonna send these to me, right?”
“Yeah, if you want,” Jonathan says.
“Of course, I want,” Steve assures. ”Not only because you're making me into some Greek god but also because it's your art and it's fucking cool.“
“Thanks,” Jonathan breathes.
Steve reaches the posed hand up and pinches Jonathan's chin. Jonathan can feel every nerve vibrate as Steve's fingers fall away too soon. Steve gives him a curious look but returns his hand to the pose. Jonathan shuffles back behind the camera and continues shooting the pictures.
Steve showcases different smolders that make Jonathan's stomach tighten but he keeps pressing the button, keeps seeing how far Steve will go without his instruction.
“What if I shot my arm back like I'm about to throw it?” Steve asks, demonstrating his point.
Jonathan's eyes trail up his torso to the arm in question and he swallows. “Mhm. That looks really good.”
Steve's lips turn upward and he whispers, “So do you, Byers.”
Jonathan's whole body freezes. His finger trembles over the button but his mind is so blank that he can't tell it to push. Steve keeps glancing at him but Jonathan's not registering it.
Steve coughs awkwardly and mumbles, “Just tell me to fuck off, man.”
That gets Jonathan's brain back online. “What?”
Steve jumps, not realizing that Jonathan was actually listening. He drops his stance and rolls his shoulders back, bones popping as he does. He sighs and says meekly, “If you don't like me flirting with you, just tell me to stop and I will.”
Flirting? Flirting.
“You're flirting with me?” Jonathan asks, exasperated.
“I was trying to,” Steve explains, a sheepish look on his face. “But it's obvious you're not into it so--”
“Wait…no, hold on, I honestly thought you were messing with me,” Jonathan admits, walking around the camera again. Steve steps down from the stool to be at eye level with him and Jonathan swoons a little in their new proximity.
“I do love messing with you,” Steve confirms. “But no, Byers, I’ve been flustered all day having you stare at me and do your hot artist thing. That’s not a joke.”
“Really?” Jonathan whispers, his skin flushed.
“Really,” Steve whispers back.
"I am into it," Jonathan responds quietly.
"Yeah?"
"Put you into a toga because I'm so into it--" Jonathan doesn't finish this sentence because Steve is kissing him and he would much rather be kissing Steve than talking.
With the curtains drawn and the studio booked for the rest of the afternoon, Jonathan finds himself in Steve's lap with Steve's tongue in his mouth. He decides about two seconds in that he's got enough pictures for the day.
