Pairing: Marcus Moreno x F!Reader
Rating: M
Summary: Marcus Moreno needs to return to work, and to do so needs to hire a nanny to care for his young daughter, Missy. He never anticipated falling in love with you, or that you would feel the same.
Word count: 5,354
Notes: Marcus Moreno is 1000% a nanny guy and no one can tell me any differently. I’ve made a few changes to canon with this fic: for starters, Marcus is not a widower but is still a single father; secondly, I’ve aged down Missy to be four years old since I don’t think a 13 year old really needs a nanny and Missy seems pretty independent in the movie.
This fic is cross-posted to my AO3 account under the same name, which can be found linked in my masterlist. Follow @thewayofthemandalorian-writes and turn on notifications for fic updates.
Comments/reblogs appreciated.
Warnings: Age gap (unspecified, but reader is in her late 20′s), boss-employee relationship, mutual attraction, swearing perceived power imbalance, kissing, non-explicit sexual content (including female receiving oral), protected sex.

“When can you come back to work?”
It’s a question that Marcus Moreno has been asked a lot, in ever-increasing volumes. Since Missy was born, he’s been on a leave of absence as leader of the Heroics, graciously allowing Miracle Guy, Steve Boyd, to take his place until Marcus returns.
Since Missy was two, he’s been working remotely in a consulting role. His mom picks up a lot of the slack when he’s busy. It’s not fair to anyone. He knows his mom has her own life, and while she never complains and is always happy to take care of her granddaughter, Marcus knows that it isn’t a permanent solution.
It’s Anita’s idea, when Marcus is half-apologizing, half-thanking her for taking care of Missy while he works on his consultation. “Why not hire a babysitter or a nanny? So you can go to work and not have to worry. It is no trouble watching her, mijo, but hiring someone would clear up both of our plates and you can go to work.” Leave it to Anita Baltra Moreno to be altruistic and no-nonsense while also reassuring her son.
So, Marcus and Anita take Missy in her stroller, and put up job listings around the major hotspots for college students or graduates in the hopes that someone will see the listing and be: a) interested and b) qualified enough. Marcus is not worried so much about qualifications or a ton of experience in childcare. Some experience would be ideal but he’s more interested in personality. If the prospective nanny would get along with his daughter. A nanny could have an extensive resume but not click at all with his daughter. He’d rather have someone who fits that balance of being a good enough caretaker and getting along with Missy.
So, he posts the advertisements, even putting some on job websites, in the hopes that someone, anyone, will apply.
He gets many applications, but there’s only one that truly meets his eye.
When you saw the listing for a nannying job, you never expected to hear Marcus Moreno of the Heroics’ voice on the phone when he calls to set up an interview after submitting your – in your opinion – meager application.
He meets you for the interview at a coffee shop, explaining to you that his daughter, Missy, is turning four soon and will be starting half-day kindergarten in the fall, attending Tuesdays, Thursdays and every other Friday in the morning, coming home at lunchtime; your duties would be to arrive at his house in time to see her off to the school bus, pick her up from the bus, give her lunch, and spend the afternoons with her until Marcus gets home, usually at five-thirty. That seems reasonable to you. Plus, Marcus thinks she’s old enough now that he can start scaling up his availability with the Heroics again. Not on a full-time basis, he would go on the days that Missy is at school and his days off would line up with her days off.
“If you don’t mind my asking, where’s her mom?” you ask.
Marcus takes a long sip of his coffee, trying to think of a diplomatic way to explain what happened with his ex-fiancée. “She hasn’t been in the picture since Missy was a year and a half.” He tells you that she left one morning when the house was still asleep, paperwork signing away her maternal rights and her engagement ring on the kitchen island next to the coffee maker. A note saying I didn’t want this life. Marcus tried to find her, but when he did, she explained that she never wanted to be a mother, but she hoped that she would grow into the role of being a mom. The pregnancy had been an accident, a happy one for Marcus, who always wanted to have kids. “We ended things a while ago, it’s just been us and my mom for the past two and a half years.”
“I’m sorry to hear that,” you say.
Marcus likes you. You’re kind and have a gentle way about you. You don’t seem to agitate easily. A calm level-headedness is exactly what he’s looking for. “I know that you don’t have the most impressive of applications,” he starts, “but I think you would be a good fit. What are you studying?”
You tell him that you just finished your degree in accounting. “It’s very tedious, but I’m good with numbers.”
“So, why nanny for me if you’ve got a degree in accounting?” he asks.
You shrug. “I like kids and nowhere is hiring at the moment in my field. Gotta pay the bills somehow, right?” you chuckle.
Marcus smiles, remembering his own college bills. “And your application lists you as being in your late twenties.”
“That’s right. I was the oldest graduate in my program. Most people in the course were fresh out of high school. I took some time off after graduating high school. Also, my mom kept me at home for an extra year before sending me to kindergarten. So, there’s that to it as well.”
He nods. He’s glad that you’re not in your early twenties; being in your late twenties makes you more mature and level-headed than other applicants, which is good for Missy. He got an application from a nineteen year old and had to let her down gently.
“Before I can officially offer you the job, I’d like Missy to meet you, make sure she’s okay with you first,” explains Marcus. “I do think you’ll be a great fit, though.”
You offer a demure smile. “Thanks. I hope it works out well.”
- - - -
That had been six months ago. After that meeting with Marcus, you’d met Missy, who asked you two questions: if you liked drawing and if you knew how to make grilled cheese sandwiches. Your answers to both those questions was a resounding yes. Missy had just nodded solemnly at her father and went back to colouring her Little Mermaid picture.
Now you and Missy are as thick as thieves. The four year old is such a sweet little girl. She’s an easy kid, never any fuss or disagreements. At least, not to the extent that you were originally anticipating. She is only four, so she does get some ideas into her head that are a bit difficult to dissuade her from, but for the most part she is a very good listener.
Marcus likes your easy presence in the house; you’re kind and patient and you are considerate. You have a real way with Missy, an empathy to you that is not easily found in most people. You’re always doing stuff for him. Making sure that dinner is ready when he gets home, something that wasn’t in your contract. He’d told you after a week of your cooking that you didn’t have to. You’d shrugged and said that you like doing it. He can admit that you’re pretty. The attraction had been almost instant, but he’d pushed it away, thinking that he’s just noticing you because of everything that you’re doing for him and Missy. He’s noticing your kindness and how you do things for him as well as for Missy that you don’t have to, but do anyway because you want to.
It’s inappropriate, having a crush on his employee. It would be crossing a line that is there for a reason. Not to mention he’s ten years older than you. He doesn’t want to pressure you or take advantage of you. He isn’t that kind of person.
Your friend and roommate Alison is convinced that you have a crush on Marcus. Ever since he insisted on calling him Marcus instead of Mr. Moreno (claiming that “Mr. Moreno makes me sound old”) at that first meeting in the coffee shop in June. You’d noticed his good looks and his soft but commanding when it needed to be nature long before you’d officially met him and started nannying for his kid. He’s a Heroic, a public figure, who is often in the media, trending on Twitter often, especially now that he’s started to work for them again. But seeing him in a tweet or on the news is different from seeing the real him. Who can’t make scrambled eggs for shit and hates wearing contacts because they hurt his eyes and enjoys his coffee with a hint of cream and loves his daughter more than anyone. The media flattens a lot of things. Seeing him in a day-to-day setting is way different to seeing him in the public eye. For example, you would never know that he hates using his telekinetic-magnetic powers when he doesn’t have to. Outside of showing off the first time he met you, he hasn’t used that ability once in the time you’ve known him. You’d been attracted to the public persona of Marcus Moreno – who hasn’t been? – but you like the real Marcus Moreno a lot more.
Marcus wants you to know the real him. Not the put-on version of himself that he uses for Heroics appearances or appearances in the press.
All that being said, you aren’t going to let your feelings be known. He’s your boss. Hard pass. You don’t want to be fired for harassment. You’re there for Missy’s sake and Missy’s sake only. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t look. You can look, but you can’t touch.
- - - -
Marcus asks you one morning if you can stay a bit later than usual. He has a date that night. You try not to let your childish disappointment show when you say, “Sure, that’s no problem.”
If he notices your disappointment, he doesn’t say anything. Just like he doesn’t say that the blind date is so he can move on from this ridiculous attraction he has for you. He’d seen you in leggings and a nice top the other day and had to go stand in the cold shower for a lot longer than he was willing to admit.
So, he prepares himself for the date, allows you to tie his tie, which is horribly, terribly ironic, and tells Missy to behave herself for you.
The date is perfectly… cromulent. It’s fine. Amanda is a nice enough woman. Pretty, enthusiastic, passionate about what she does. But as he sits across from her at the fancy restaurant that she chose, he thinks that he’d much rather be at home, doing tex-mex or pizza with Missy and you. It’s not that Amanda is complicated, she’s not. She just… doesn’t seem the type that would go for breakfast for dinner or sloppy joes the way that you do. She doesn’t seem to be the type that would dance with his daughter in the kitchen to Taylor Swift, or take her to the zoo or colour with her. She’s missing that warmth that you have. That unassuming loveliness you have and—
Oh, hell.
Marcus clears his throat. “Amanda? Um, I’m very sorry, but I have to cut tonight short. You’re very nice and it was good to meet you, but I don’t think this is going to work out.” It wouldn’t be fair to finish this date, to stay on this date when he’s thinking about another woman. His mother raised him better than that.
When he gets home, an empty box of dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets is on the counter, broken down and ready to be recycled. Two dirty plates sit next to the box, not yet put in the dishwasher but everything else is as he left it. He can hear the telltale sounds of The Sea Beast, a recent favourite of Missy’s, coming from the living room.
When he sees you and Missy curled up together, watching the movie for what seems to be the six hundredth time, his heart nearly bursts at the sight. This isn’t just a fleeting crush he has on you, a brief attraction. He has genuine feelings for you.
Missy is sleeping, curled up on one side of you like a koala bear. You’re diligently watching the movie even if Missy is asleep. Marcus clears his throat and you look up. “You’re back early.”
Marcus sits down on the couch on the other side of you, careful not to wake Missy. Her breathing changes for a minute, then evens out and deepens, dead to the world. “Yeah. She was nice, but it wasn’t going to work.” He looks around at the room. “I see your night was much more successful.”
You nod. “Yeah. We read a little bit of her early chapter book, had some dinner, and now, as you can see, we’re watching a movie. Or at least, I am.” You press pause on the remote.
“I can take her to bed if you like?” Marcus offers, looking at you intently.
“Sure. Her teeth are already brushed and I gave her a bath after dinner.”
You’re just doing your job, but Marcus loves how you take care of Missy. Marcus scoops up Missy into his arms. She wakes for just a minute, then falls back to sleep in her dad’s arms. “Come on, honey. Let’s get you to bed,” he murmurs softly to her.
A few minutes later, Marcus comes out of Missy’s bedroom, shutting the door gently behind him. You’re tidying up in the kitchen. “Don’t worry about that, cariño,” Marcus says, the term of endearment slipping out unintentionally. “I can do that.” He grabs a beer from the fridge, holds it out. “Want one?”
You’re a bit flummoxed. “Uh. I have to drive home so, no. Thank you.”
“Oh. Right. Water, then? A soda?”
“Water’s fine.”
He pours you a glass of water and makes his way into the living room. “How was tonight?” he asks.
You follow him into the living room. “Yeah, it was good. Missy’s a really good kid.” You don’t have to go home right away, so you sit down next to Marcus, switching off the tv.
“Thanks again for staying late tonight and getting her ready for bed and everything. For everything you do for m– for us.”
You smile shyly, trying very hard not to notice the way Marcus is sitting very close to you, so close that his thigh is almost touching yours. “It’s no trouble. I like hanging out with Missy. I like this job.”
Marcus grins. “I’m glad. She really likes you, too.” There’s a pause. “I have this Heroics thing coming up in a few weeks. Sort of a social event, meeting with the Heroics branch in Houston.”
You nearly choke on your water. “Houston? That’s, like, three hours away.”
“I know. I’m not really looking forward to it since it’s so far away, but Priya Granada, my boss, says that since I’m stepping up again, I have to go. It’s a few weeks out. I’ll likely stay at the hotel and come back first thing on Friday morning. Mom’s out of town that week so I can’t have Missy sleep over. So I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind staying the night that night? I know it’s not in your job description, and I’d pay you extra, and—”
“Marcus. I’d be happy to. Just tell me when and I’ll be there,” you say, patting him on the knee. Marcus’s hand itches to cover your hand. He looks at your face for a few lingering seconds, wondering how he got so lucky to find you.
You don’t stay for much longer, since you have an early start tomorrow. Bidding Marcus a goodnight, you head out to your car and wonder the entire ride home if you misread the signs he was giving you tonight.
- - - -
Before you know it, the day of the Heroics event has arrived. You show up with an overnight bag slung on your shoulder, Alison’s teasing still ringing in your ears. You officially have it bad for your boss. Since the night of his failed date, you’re sure that Marcus might have an attraction for you, too. Either that or your feelings for him are clouding your judgment on reading things. Usually you’re good at reading other people. Even Marcus. You can tell when he’s in a bad mood or frustrated about something. But since that night of his ill-fated date, he’s been giving different signals than you’re used to.
You’re not uncomfortable with these new signals. Not by any stretch. You just wish you knew what they meant. You like him. A lot. To the point that when you use your vibrator these days, it’s him that you imagine when you close your eyes.
Marcus is already dressed for the event. “I wish I didn’t have to go,” he laments as he stuffs things haphazardly into his own overnight bag.
“The joys of PR,” you say drily, knowing very little about said topic.
He’s left a list of things that need to be done, Missy’s bedtime routine and what time she usually wakes up. It’s Thursday and tomorrow she has school, so she needs to be up at a certain time to catch the bus.
“The guest bedroom is being renovated,” he rambles, as if forgetting that you’re aware that he’s in the long process of painting the guest bedroom, “and the couch isn’t really that great for sleeping, so you will have to sleep on an air mattress in Missy’s room.
“I’ll figure it out,” you say.
He kisses Missy on the forehead and tells her to be good. Then he looks at you, and is it just your imagination or do his eyes flicker to your lips for a second? “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
The entire drive to Houston, Marcus thinks about you and Missy when he’s not mentally bitching about this event that he has to go to. The only good thing about it will be the free, catered food, paid for by the Heroics bosses. He supposes it would be nice to meet some of the counterparts, mingle a little bit. And it’ll be the first night in god knows how long that he has to himself. He loves Missy, more than anything or anyone. But he needs a night where he doesn’t have to worry. Doesn’t have to think about getting her ready for bed or anything like that. He wouldn’t trade that in for anything, but having a night to himself is something that he can admit to looking forward to. He only wishes that he had someone — you — to share that with.
When he arrives at the hotel, he goes up to the front desk. “May I help you, sir?” asks the front-desk girl. Annie, her name tag says.
“Marcus Moreno here for the Heroics event.”
Annie types a few keys on her computer. “Very good, Mr. Moreno. The event is being held in the ballroom. Just through that hallway over there, across from the pool and fitness room. Was there anything else, sir?”
Marcus frowns. “I thought I was also getting a room?” he asks.
Annie goes into the room bookings page, searches for the name MORENO. “Did you make a reservation?” she asks.
“My boss was supposed to.” He resists the urge to squeeze the bridge of his nose, not wanting to irritate his stupid contact lenses. “Is there anything available?”
The front-desk girl gives an apologetic look. “I’m afraid not, sir. Between the Heroics event and the hockey tournament this weekend, everything is booked up. I’m sorry.”
Marcus sighs. It isn't the girl's fault. He should have double checked when he never got a booking confirmation forwarded to him. Made his own reservation and asked Ms. Granada to reimburse him. He offers her what he hopes to be a genuine smile. “It’s fine.”
He doesn’t relish the idea of driving home at one in the morning, but what else is he supposed to do? Marcus doesn’t really want to spend time looking for hotels. He knows that he wanted a night to himself but at this point, it’s easier to drive home.
He spends the entire night thinking about you when he’s mingling. Not strictly in a, “I wonder how she’s doing and that everything’s going okay” kind of way either. Most people have brought plus-ones to the event. Marcus is one of the few that doesn’t have a date or a spouse with him. He wants that to be different. He’s stayed away from dating for the most part because of Missy’s age and needing to be there for her. Missy will always be his top priority, but he can admit that he’s lonely in other areas of his life. The only time he’s not lonely is the fleeting moments he spends with you. There’s something there with you, something that could turn into the real thing. He doesn’t know how to broach that subject with you. It’s funny. Marcus Moreno, who charges headfirst into life-threatening things with the Heroics, doesn’t know how to tell you how he feels.
- - - -
The air mattress leaks. As soon as you lie down on it to test it after Missy’s on the bus going to school, it begins to deflate. Not good. By morning time, you know the air mattress will be fully deflated. You can’t sleep on it. It will kill your back. Just like the couch will. It’s soft on the couch, but not in a supportive way. The Morenos need a new couch, something that Marcus is already aware of.
You fret the entire day. There’s only one solution besides sucking it up. Which is to sleep in Marcus’s bed. It completely crosses the line. If he ever found out, he would fire you, you know he would. But he wouldn’t have to find out. He’d only be back tomorrow in the afternoon. You could easily have the sheets washed and put back on before he even knew. He wouldn’t have to find out. Plus he sprung it on you kind of last second.
It’ll be fine.
You go through the motions of taking care of Missy, feeding her, taking her to the park, reading with her. You give her a bath and get her into her jammies before tucking her into bed. It’s early still, so you watch something on low volume on Netflix until a more reasonable time to go to sleep. Getting into your own pajamas, you get into the bed. The idea of sleeping in your boss’s bed is not something you’ve entertained (okay, that’s a bit of a lie, you have entertained that thought, but under a very different context), so it is very bizarre getting into his bed.
You think you’re going to be too wired to sleep, but the scent of his soap and the laundry detergent embedded into the sheets from countless uses and washes soothes you. It’s a great bed. Way better than sleeping directly on the floor. You’d checked the air mattress again after dinner, still in Missy’s bedroom, and it had completely deflated. There’s a leak in there somewhere. You wonder when the last time it was used had been.
When you wake, it’s still dark. The house is quiet and still, so you have no idea what woke you up. It takes you a minute to remember where you are. Whose bed you are in. There’s movement at the door. You’re still mostly asleep, your voice groggy when you say, “Missy? Is that you?”
You blink the blurriness out of your eyes and switch on the lamp. It isn’t Missy. “M–Marcus!” You’re fully awake now, panic and embarrassment coursing through you. “What are you–I’m so sorr–”
The rest of your sentence is cut off when Marcus strides across the room to the bed in two strides, rests his large hands on either side of your neck and kisses you. You gasp, not having expected this at all. It’s not an unwelcome surprise, but you’re pretty sure that you might be dreaming.
Marcus breaks the kiss, panting heavily. “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do that. Tell me that I’m not misreading things, that the signals are there.”
Blinking in confusion, you look at him. “You’re not misreading them. I’ve wanted to do that for a while, too, but…”
Marcus takes your confusion as rejection. “I get it. I’m your boss, it’s inappropriate.”
You shake your head. “No, that’s not what I was going to say, Marcus. I was going to say, I thought you didn’t want me the same way… the same way that I want you.”
He actually scoffs. “Are you kidding me? How could I not want you? You’re… amazing. You’re so kind and caring and warm and you’re so good with Missy. I’ve wanted this, wanted you for a very long time. Almost since I met you.” He can’t help himself, he has to kiss you again. “I stayed away because…”
You understand immediately “I know, that’s why I stayed away too.”
“I was going to broach the subject later. But then, seeing you in my bed?” Marcus can’t finish that thought; he hopes his hungry kiss is enough to tell you how he feels about that.
Still, you feel sheepish. “I should have called or texted before assuming. I’m s—”
“It’s fine, bebita. If I'd known you were waiting for me in my bed I would have come home sooner, sweetheart."
You’re still not sure if you’re dreaming or not. Your breath catches and before you can steady it, he’s kissing you again. You’re almost in his lap. You can feel that he wants you as much as you want him. After months of pent-up tension and pining, you almost snap like an elastic band.
“Tell me to stop and I will,” Marcus tells you in between kisses. His mouth has moved to your jaw, working a line down to your neck. Every nerve in your body is on fire and you haven’t even done anything yet. The throbbing between Marcus’s legs that you feel pressed against you, combined with your own want for him tells you that that will change soon enough.
“I don’t want you to stop. Don’t stop,” you tell him.
Marcus kisses you as he takes off more and more of your sleeping clothes. “You always take such good care of us – of me. Let me take care of you for once.”
He takes such good care of you. First with his hands and his mouth, not stopping until he knows you’ve gotten what you need, until you are fully and completely satisfied with what his skilled fingers and his deft tongue have done to you. He doesn’t take long before he’s reaching for a condom, something he’s surprised he has in his night table and isn’t expired: it’s been a while. “If you feel uncomfortable at all, please let me know,” he says as he’s easing himself into you. “Tell me to stop and I will,” he repeats.
You don’t want him to, and you make it clear that you don’t by kissing him, wrapping your legs around him as he settles inside, pulling him as flush to you as possible as he begins to move. “Y’re so fuckin’ pretty,” he murmurs. You’ve always seen Marcus collected, sure of his words. Seeing him run his mouth, stuttering over words as your hips stutter against his is entirely new and entirely endearing to you, seeing how you have an effect on him in this way. “Take what you need, bebita,” he grunts. “Take it, it’s yours.”
You do, making sure he takes what he needs as well. He kisses you as you work through your respective highs, holding you close.
“I still got it,” he smirks.
“I’d say so,” you reply. “Holy shit. Not that I’m complaining, but that’s not how I expected to be woken up at…” you glance at the clock, “four-thirty a.m. I thought you were only staying there?”
Marcus grumbles. “Long story.”
You yawn, drowsy after the impromptu events. “What does this mean for…for us? For my job?”
He kisses your temple. “Sleep, querida. We can talk in the morning.”
- - - -
When you wake next, it’s broad daylight. You’re still naked from the events of earlier this morning. The bedsheets are rumpled beside you. You stretch, enjoying the burn in your thighs and the ache between your legs. You have to get up, get Missy to school—
Missy!
You’re about to bolt out of bed when you see the note on the bedside table, written in Marcus’s boxy script. Don’t worry about Missy, I’m driving her to school. You looked so peaceful sleeping I didn’t want to wake you. x – MM
Stiffly you make your way to the ensuite bathroom to take a shower. You don’t have your overnight bag with you, it’s still in the living room, so you take one of Marcus’s shirts, a green one that you love on him.
Under the steam of the hot shower, the night’s events play back in your mind’s eye. Had that really happened? Were it not for the burn in your thighs and the ache between your legs, you’d say that it had been a very vivid dream. It feels impossible.
You’re coming out of the bathroom, damp and dressed in Marcus’s shirt and your jammie pants. He’s carrying two to-go cups of coffee. “Hey,” he says when he sees you, handing you your coffee and following you to the couch in the living room. “Is that my shirt?”
“It’s mine now.” You both chuckle and then you turn serious. “About last night…”
Marcus stops you. “I know it’s inappropriate and unconventional, and I want you to know that it’s never been my intent to take advantage of you. So I understand if you feel at all uncomfortable.”
You have a lot to say; it comes out in a bit of a word vomit, but you can’t stop yourself from talking. “Marcus, I don’t feel like you’ve taken advantage of me at all. I know it’s unconventional but I like you. I liked last night. A lot. I like you a lot. I know there’s a bit of an age gap between us and that there is a perceived power imbalance because you’re my boss, but you’ve never made me feel that way. You’ve never exerted that power over me. If I didn’t want to be with you last night, I would have made it clear and told you. I promise.”
Though Marcus knows that already, knowing you well enough to know that that’s true, he exhales, relief evident in his features. He’s wearing his glasses again; he’d had to wear his contacts last night. He looks more like himself in his glasses. He bends his head and kisses you. “I’m relieved to hear that. I like you too. A lot. I have for a while. I just didn’t know how to tell you without making it weird. Last night just kind of… set things in motion, I guess? I don’t know. I just think that you’re wonderful and I didn’t want to not tell you.” He pauses. “Speaking of which, why were you in there last night?”
You feel warm and fuzzy at the admission before explaining the snafu with the air mattress. “I don’t know how this is going to work with Missy and my job, but if you want to hire a different nanny, that’s totally fine. I just wasn’t expecting you to come back last night. But I’m glad that you did. Very glad.”
Marcus strokes your knuckles with his thumb. “Me too. And we can figure it out. Speaking of Missy, we should let her know what’s going on. At least in a way that’s kid-friendly.” You agree with that, not wanting to confuse the little girl any more than she needs to be.
“So does that mean I can take you out on a date soon?” he asks after kissing you again. Now that he can do that, he can’t seem to get enough.
“I’d love to. But we will have to find a nanny,” you tease with a coy smile, excited at the prospect of whatever comes next with Marcus.

have you done a “how I would fix that movie” meta post? I’m also interested in your stricklake manifesto or something about guillermo del toro’s horror sensibilities and toa
send me a meta prompt (currently closed); thank you for the ask!
how did you know exactly what prompted this lol
stricklake manifesto is...tentatively forthcoming. possibly. probably. stay tuned. while i know i've certainly thought about how i'd fix the movie (and not even purely for niche side blorbo reasons), but i'm not sure how compelling (or coherent) that end product actually is. 🤔
unfortunately my fixit of the movie starts roughly thirty seconds after bellroc vaporizes that poor pigeon in chicago (or wherever metrocity is) and diverges wildly from there. tldr: someone on team trollhunter remembers they're in a gdt show, and asks just why are they all blindly following merlin, anyway. is it barb? god, i want it to be barb. obviously blinky is like "because he's the esteemèd merlin ambrosius, duh" while all three changelings just look directly into the camera. merlin blusters. barb backs off.
then, once merlin wanders out of earshot, she asks again.
i do think that would be probably the biggest single change. i'm very self-conscious when i sit down in my lil sandbox that i don't want to give barb another job; she has enough already, and she gets mommed by the fandom in a way i don't always think is malicious but which nevertheless generally rubs me wrong. but truly: who else is doing it like her? okay, sure, there's jim: until the last four episodes of trollhunters, his actual, textual superpower is his humanity. he then gets browbeaten into discarding it—the quality that has, until now, been his unique and cited qualification—because the guy who made an amulet out of his student's severed hand acted like he had some kind of moral high ground.
barb, meanwhile, is also an extraordinarily human human. she's the normie! she's the clueless mundane, a single mother dragged into the supernatural by her only son.  and while she does freak out—rightly! understandably!—when the supernatural puts her and her loved ones in danger, she never speaks against it just for being different. obviously stricklander is the example i've thought about most here: she's mad when he comes back (again, rightly), but her objections are because you lied to and endangered and my son, not because you're a dirty changeling. she's mad (and hurt) when jim lies about fighting off goblins, but because she's scared for him! once the masquerade is broken, she's immediately on his side. she's also the only character to even try to make merlin answer for trollifying jim, even if it's presented humorously. best girl.
so. back to this theoretical fixit: i think barb would be the most natural choice to start the questioning, here. blinky would still push back a little, but with merlin elsewhere, nomura and stricklander don't have to worry about being nice; maybe aaarrrgghh would even chime in on their side (what exactly do the gumm-gumms think of emrys, anyway?). it's not an easy conversation. it's also not the last one. but it starts. for a series that is otherwise unusually arthurian, arthur in trollhunters is conspicuous by his absence. but you have merlin. you have morgana. you also—pace wizards' giant slimy monster, who was cute, but completely overlooked preexisting developments—have the lady of the goddamn lake: legendary enchantress, giver of excalibur, single mother of the best of knights.
and, most importantly, the one who seals merlin in a fucking tree.
u see where i'm going with this.
once barb starts that question—well. i make no claims that this is recognizable, but you did ask how i would do it, lol. from this i can't help but feel it would cascade pretty dramatically. if stricklander and nomura united behind her, i think jim would follow. claire and toby after him. once the humans (and adjacent) are convinced, i don't think blinky could hold out any longer; maybe the smarter version of him other people keep seeing could be brought around to some kind of "trust, but verify." soft and stupid as i am about wretched wizard blorbos, obviously the order are still being assholes. we don't want them to actually burn it all down. but is that what they're actually trying to do? or is this just another received merlinian dictum?
god—and if they got to talk to nari about it! once again, one of the biggest failures of wizards (and rott) was how utterly it sidelined its characters in favor of punchy punchy bang bang. this i know have written about somewhere: jim's reduction to a vicarious highschool bully fantasy, how bellroc was flattened into cartoonish, beautifully rendered cardboard-cutout evil, while somehow still staying the most consistent character in the room. stricklander—whose entire character arc in trollhunters was built on 1.) the infinite possibility of an individual for change and 2.) being the smartest bastard in the room—took the first step into his new life by marrying barb and then immediately paid for it with the stupidest death possible. (see a longer and much keener essay about this here, from @millennialmoviereviews.) i cannot overemphasize how frustrated i am—still, yes, i know, about a children's cartoon—about how that movie treated its characters, even ones (the tarrons! douxie! steve!) i don't normally have any investment in.
...but what if that changed? what if we took what used to be the gdt hallmark—sympathy for monsters, without excuse—and committed to the goddamn bit? jim reached out to bular back in trollhunters. yes, what you're doing is wrong; you're hurting people i mean to protect; but i understand you're hurting too, and why, and how we might not be so different. you don't have to do this.
then barb sends merlin to treeby deeby, and bellroc and skrael fucking kiss.
(and then go about actually protecting/repairing the balance of the world or whatever, but i know what i'm about.)
postscript. i admit i pick a lot on merlin. don't get it twisted: i think my own evil wizard blorbos were also complete dumbasses here. but i think part of the reason i am so invested in merlin experiencing a goddamn consequence is pretty closely related to the original reason i was so drawn to gdt's stuff in the first place, namely: decoupling "good" and "evil" from "normal" and "monster," respectively. i don't think this is too much to expect of a kids show, especially one for toa's age group. trollhunters does a great job of doing this—of allowing nuance, of showing how it's possible to think outside the frameworks you know, while still remaining accessible to children—and 3below kind of? tries to keep it up. i think. but wizards...doesn't. even for all it does (inadvertently or otherwise) end up pointing out how merlin and arthur, founts of the same authority, massively screwed up. i've also had many people point out that wizards was pretty much set up to fail: executive meddling, rushed production, etc. etc. which i do sympathize with.
but it's still. tremendously bitter. to see six seasons' worth of such a unique message get discarded so easily. especially when this was done with such breathtakingly little love for the material.

BSD characters meeting your parents
Tumblr media
Dazai Osamu
-He is actually pretty nervous.
-He wore a suit and everything, if you minus the part that his suit is disheveled, you can tell he tried his best.
-Has a bouquet of flowers for everyone. Including your siblings and your parents. You two both thought it was hilarious.
-Gives out compliments of your parents and tries to communicate with your sibling/siblings if you have one.
-He also tries his hardest to not mention any suicidal stuff. You might hear him mentioning a tiny little joke like once an hour. He's trying hard. You have to give him credits for that.
-Eats whatever he gets. He doesn't have any dislikes when he eats food and that gets high points from your mom.
-One of your parents was a little shocked to hear that he didn't graduate College, but you told them that it was because he was offered a high paying job when he graduated high school. (An obvious lie. He entered high school for a month before graduating by answering every single test correctly within a matter of two weeks.)
-Gets multiple points from your (maybe non-existant) sibling/siblings by winning them over with gifts.
-In the end, everyone likes him. Your stricter parent accepts him too! That's a very good sign. Just don't let anyone eat his cooking!
Tumblr media
Kunikida Doppo
-Oh you know damn well this guy will arrive an hour before the planned time just to make sure.
-Dressed more fancier. Wore the gifts that you got him, an expensive watch, with a very tidy suit.
-Brought a bouquet of roses as a bonus.
-That made your parents accept him immediately.
-Your parents find it very nice to see that he graduated from a very prestigious college early and scored a job the moment he graduated.
-Very formal and careful with everything he says.
-Your parents believe that he is a very responsible and dependable adult despite his young age.
-Has no problems eating anything. Even if it's not the best, he will eat without any complaints.
-Your (maybe non-existant) sibling/siblings think that he's pretty boring and a little too strict, but they can cooperate with him.
-It even got to the point where they wondered if you were good enough for him!
-A great cook, very responsible, no problems with gambling, depts, or drugs? He is everything they could ask for.
-Overall, a great view on your parents, and pretty good with your siblings.
Tumblr media
Atsushi Nakajima
-He is the most nervous out of every character.
-He literally went to a straight up panic attack mode when he was asked if he could go with you to meet up with your parents.
-Very good with kids. Your (maybe non-existant) sibling/siblings thinks he is cute!
-Your parents think so too.
-If this was about marriage, they'd be concerned. He's 18. A very young age to get married in the traditional form of life. So he would be viewed more strictly.
-But he doesn't have any problems. They don't mind the fact that he grew up as an orphan. He has a job, a kind heart, and he respects every choice you make. I think they really like that!
-Despite not going to school, he has a great job. A well paying one at that! I think they don't have a problem unless they are a bit over protective. Then I think they would be concerned over the fact that he risks his life in battle, and you could be a target of others or heart broken over his death.
-Other than that, they are completely happy with who you ended up with. He's nice to everyone, he has the abilities and qualification to protect you from danger, and he doesn't have any problems with debts or drugs or his body. I think they will be glad that you have such a good boyfriend.
Tumblr media
Edowaga Ranpo
-He's on time, he almost was a little late though. A little bad start, but that's not really bad.
-He is forgiven the moment he tells everyone that he did it so he could get them flowers fresh!
-His clothes are a little messy, but everyone in the room can tell he loves you so much.
-He doesn't really care about making a good impression. He just clings to you right away with an adorable smile.
-They are a little unimpressed, but after seeing you smile? They accept the fact that you two match well together.
-They practically interrogate him btw.
-"What's your job?" "What school did you graduate?" "Do you love my child?" etc etc.
-He answered pretty well. They are a bit dissapointed at first but they soon begin to like him. Ranpo seems to have this force that pulls everyone close to him.
-Him and your (maybe non-existent) sibling/siblings get along very well! They find him very entertaining to talk to!
-At first, not a good start. In the end though, total success.
Tumblr media
Akutagawa Ryuunosuke
-My boy's stiff as a pole -_-
-He scared your parents at first with no intentions
-That is, until they saw how robotic he was. Then they just figured he was just a shy boy.
-He is SILENT
-He concerns your parents btw.
-You kinda lie to them that he's an author that didn't reveal his face for the sake of not being like-
-"Oh yeah! My dear Ryuunosuke here is a mafia member! You know? That infamous Port Mafia that kills dozens per day?" "*spits out drink* I'M SORRY COME AGAIN?!"
-He understood why btw.
-He really likes your parents. He can see where you got all your good attributes from.
-Ps, he said that out loud without thinking while trying to whisper but failing horribly.
-That made your parents day, and your (maybe non-existant) sibling/siblings laugh out loud like the Satan himself.
-If you have a sibling that's young, he would get along with them better than teens.
-Imagine though, your teen sibling just goes like, "Sooo. How's my sibling in sex?"
-He'd be so confused.
-He's genuinely liked. He seems very scary at first, but once you get to know him, no one can hate him. He seems to have this innocent side of him that everyone likes.
Tumblr media
Nakahara Chuuya
-My guy really came with a 300,000 yen wine bottle and a bouquet.
-A random family member of yours that's really good with alcohol or at least heard of the shit was screaming.
-Luckily, he had reserved the restaurant. Don't ask, he just wanted to impress your family.
-He kinda got called out for being short and wearing platform shoes by your (maybe non-existant) sibling.
-They thought he was very nice, and a little cheesy.
-Liked how he called you with a pet name. Your (maybe non-existant) sibling/siblings were barfing at that.
-Enjoys watching you two be sweet to each other.
-His fake job was a model. They understood why. He’s HOT.
-A total gentleman, controls his cursing to the very minimum. It was easy due to Dazai not being near him. Lol.
-You two made up a lie that he went to a prestigious school after making an illegal certificate btw.
-The meeting was successful. Your (maybe non existent) sibling/siblings pointed out that he was short making him crack out a fake grin in the end.

I fucking hate my father. I despise him. I hope he dies and leaves me, and my mom the fuck alone.
I hate how he makes me feel fucking worthless even though he's the one that ruins my whole life. From the beginning to start. I hate how for the most of my life, i felt like what he does to me is normal. That every kid is forbidden from watching stupid fucking tv (TOTALLY), that every kid gets yelled at and hit all the time. It was just a few years ago that i started realising that what he does is seriously fucked up. For me it's just another shitty day, but if someone "normal" knew what was going on their brain would fucking explode. It's been quite a lot of time since he's been regularly beating me up, but i don't know if what he does now isn't even worse. It's not like i take anything he says really to me, but it just frustrates me so much that i'm getting mentally abused even though i've done nothing wrong. His constant complaints about my weight (made by a bastard who's fucking obese) and hearing that i'm stupid, useless and other shit are driving me insane.
Lately my mom said something about my cousin passing the matura with 100% from math. It was during diner. What did that dick say??
"if (...) ate all this she'd pass that too"
Yeah??? Maybe i'd have a chance to pass with such a score if i studied, instead of overworking my ass off for nothing. Because nobody pays me here. They just demand i work 24/7 instead of giving any attention to school and still do good. It worked in primary school because i was just smart. But i'm in fucking high school, and i should study if i want to even just pass the fucking matura. But what can i do, when after i come back from school i immediately go to work, and when i actually get back home i'm exhausted?? Totally?? Even worse on days off of school. I sometimes overthink, thinking that I'll never get anywhere, i won't pass those stupid exams. And yk what?? Matura is useless on it's own. I'd have to go to college to actually get any job qualifications. But i'm not fucking planning to. I'm done with all this crap. And i wouldn't make it. I can't even talk to people, because i'm fucking afraid, how am i supposed to get a job.
And even if i get one, how am i supposed to last. My back hurts so fucking much already, and i'm always sore somehow. I've worked since i was a kid and that's already taking a toll on me. I'm worn out.
I don't even know how he can sleep peacefully, knowing he's ruined a person. That his own kid hates him. That his own kid wonders why she was even born, and what has she ever done to be born where she was. That his own kid wants to kill herself. I don't know how tf he doesn't feel guilty.
My older stepsis moved away as soon as she turned 18. She always hated me, because her and mom had to move to our house when mom got with my mother. I always hated her too, we were fighting a lot, but i guess she understood she's not the only one, and that i'm suffering exactly the same thing. We're on good terms with each other. At least that's good.
I want to leave, but i can't. I can't tell anyone about this, or there will be a huge drama, probably i'd get taken away from my family, and i don't want to be dependent on anybody, because as soon as i can i wanna get away as far as possible. I just need 2 fucking years, I'll be an adult and finish school if i'm lucky enough. If i pass this year. I probably would, if not for math. But my teacher is nice, i should be able to do something about it at least.
Do yall want to know who you're talking with though? You're talking with a person who slept outside, or snuck in trough the window because she's been to afraid to open the front door while walking into the house. With a person who hid from her father because he was angry. A girl who got judged for every single thing she did
When i see or hear other dads, who are supportive towards their kids i want to cry. I just wish i was born into a normal family, and felt loved.
(i'm putting that "for adults" thingy because i don't want my post to be immediately visible, like, i think what i just said was cringe but i needed to vent a lil even if nobody listens)

TITLE: the secret
FACECLAIM: daisy edgar-jones
lets dig a little deeper ;
zelda mae was born in hickory, north carolina on halloween night in 1999. a small town compared to the rest of the state, but a welcoming one nonetheless. her mother alexis had always worked hard to provide zelda with as much as she could, but being a single parent was tough and one paycheque didn't stretch as far as it needed to. the mother and daughter duo persevered. they made do with what they could, living in one of the tiny shotgun houses in the poorest area of hickory. zelda didn't mind, money wasn't the source of happiness - admittedly, it would've helped some times.
growing up had zelda asking her mom why her dad wasn't around, but it wasn't a topic of conversation that alexis was willing to entertain with her daughter, so zelda eventually left the topic alone. it was just her and mom.
life progressed and zelda got older. she graduated with honours in both high school and university. she studied medicine and surgery at her time at university and only was able to do that by winning a full scholarship. she had intended to stay on and progress into biochemistry in order to secure qualification in physical and scientific medicine but her plan was cut short when she had received a call claiming that her mother had passed suddenly.
zelda returned home to sort out the funeral and the family home. it was there that she found a letter on the kitchen table. a letter from her mom explaining that she had ben sick for some time and kept it from zelda to allow her to focus on her studies. if that wasn't enough of a kick when she was down, the letter went onto explain more about her dad. the first time her mom told her about her dad and it was through a letter. a letter. equal parts heartbroken and furious, she packed up and went to where the letter guided her: huntsville.
arriving in huntsville was an experience to say the least. one minute she was diving through, avoiding that wrecked tree and the next she was being dragged into a house and told to keep away from the windows and to not let anyone in. it was an experience. convinced the town was full of crazies, it took some poor soul falling victim to whatever was outside for zelda to believe what was going on.
stunned and hella confused, zelda mindlessly chose to reside in the commune while she gathered her thoughts. she picked up the first job that was handed her way and it's been a numbing cycle for seven days now.
additional information ;
has been in town for literally a week
is going by zelda rowan in the town at the moment, she's hidden the romero part of her name until she finds her dad (aka hawk @crazedhatesoul )
a qualified doctor and surgeon - she will eventually ease into this role but right now she's all over the place.
low-key wants to catch one of the monsters to crack it open and see what she can find - she's a curious cat
is happy to help wherever is needed in the town
halloween baby who hates spooky things - not because she's scared but because she feels like she never gets to celebrate her birthday properly
possible plots ;
tour guide - zelda's been in town for a week, she has no clue where anything is
sharing is caring - being new to the town, zelda has resources like books, fuel, clothes, food, water etc that can be added to the towns inventory
dad? - zelda is on the search for her dad, questions could be asked here
you're a cashier? - someone finds out about zelda's qualifications and is confused to why she took the cashier role.
night one - this person was the person that pulled her into their house on night one and explained what was going on. zelda's thankful she met them, they saved her life.
possible connections ;
new friends
new best friend
family - romero squad unite
acquaintances
dislike
co-workers
customers @ the food market
crush
commune residents
roommate at the commune
opposites attract
will be updated to suit as zelda’s time at huntsville progresses

Hi Tumblr Family...
I know that my blog isn't big or coordinated and cute (it's literally just random reblogs and notes of stuff i like) but can we get this to as many people as possible? 🥺
My name is Bassie, I'm a 23 year old currently doing my Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology & Sociology at the University of Pretoria in South Africa and cannot complete my degree due to some financial and mental health issues that have left me 2 years behind on completing my qualification...
I was raised by a single mom who has been struggling to get me through school and it feels unfair to burden her with my failures. She's juggling all the bills including taking care of me, my nephew and my grandma. I currently work part time but it's not enough and i can't get an actual job because I don't have a degree. It's kinda hard to get anywhere in life around here without a degree or connections and I have neither
I need about R100 000/$5 000 to complete my degree and I would like to ask for your help. Any help is welcome really...a reblog, a note, literally anything.
Unfortunately GoFundMe isn't available in South Africa so PayPal was the way.
Even $1 is enough.
Thank you so much for making it this far and pls pls pls reblog.💓

Prompt List
Here is a list of prompts that I have for you all to use in your requests.
Tumblr media
Long Prompts
Prompt 1:
One evening, a young man knocks on your family's front door, seeking shelter from the brutal magic-fed thunderstorm. He is soaking wet and shivering from the cold, so you offer him blankets, a cup of tea, and a spot by the burning fire. He thanks you for your hospitality and tells you that he is on his way to the {character name}'s manor, the home of one of the wealthiest families in your county. You speak of your distaste for the {character name} family and their varied businesses, making the wealthy wealthier and the poor poorer. The young man says nothing and, once the storm has subsided, leaves your home. The following day, you go to the town center to gather food and materials but are stopped when a large carriage comes clattering down the road. The townspeople part to make way for it, and whispers pick up as people gossip about the carriage's inhabitants. Suddenly, the carriage door opens right in front of you, and you stumble back and fall to the dirt ground to avoid being hit. Grumbling, you see a hand extend in front of your face, offering assistance. When you look up, you spot the familiar features of the young man you welcomed into your home last night as hushed voices rise to declare, "{character name}."
Prompt 2:
You're a teacher who loves her job and her students. However, when your contract isn't renewed due to budget cuts in your district, you find yourself at a loss. Luckily, a friend of yours knows of someone looking to hire a tutor with just your qualifications. You go to the interview and realize the job is to tutor and mentor the son of a renowned tech billionaire. The son has had behavioral problems in school and was threatened with expulsion, so the single father decided to hire a trained professional to assist in his son's issues. The more time you spend with the small family, the more you realize that the son's behavioral problems stem from his poor relationship with his father. The billionaire is smart, innovative, clever, handsome, and stubborn. He initially disagrees with your analysis, but then eventually gives way to your advice. The longer you spend in the role of caregiver to both father and son, the more you start to feel like this is where you belong.
Prompt 3
After a car accident nearly took your life, you wake up from a coma. In the six months since the accident, everything has changed. Your best friend, who was behind the wheel when you crashed, is dead. All of your other friends have graduated and gone off to college without you. Meanwhile, your mom is busy working three jobs to pay your medical bills. You sit in your room in the rehab facility feeling a deep loneliness and depression that you never could have expected. One day you meet a new patient on the ward: a handsome man who shattered his leg and thinks his life is over, too. The two of you work through the healing process together, growing closer each day.
Prompt 4
When you were young, you were friends with a neighborhood boy who liked the same things as you. Both of you were dirt poor, but it didn't seem to matter; as long as you had each other, there was always a make-believe adventure right around the corner. He grew up to be a billionaire, and, now that he's wealthy beyond imagination, seems to have forgotten where he came from. You haven't talked to him in years, but a death in the family brings him back to the old neighborhood, where you reconnect and reintroduce him to the life he left behind.
Prompt 5
Life is hard, especially for a single mother, but you've made the best of it and took a new job as the secretary for a billionaire. A terrible tragedy rocks his world and you're there as a shoulder to cry on as he heals. During the healing process, however, he finds you are more important to him than he originally thought.
Prompt 6
You are trapped in the elevator of your office building with a handsome executive when the power goes out in the city for a few hours. You get to know each other a little during that time, and the attraction is strong. He's evasive about what he does for the company, and it's not until power is restored and you're back at your desk that you realize he's the billionaire CEO… and he's emailing to ask you on a date.
Prompt 7
You are a young girl on a student scholarship at a very high-profile British university. One day at the uni pub you meet a handsome young man with whom you feel in love at first sight. Next day, you open the newspaper only to discover you have been out with the {Crown Prince(loki) or CEO of the largest company in the state(norman or otto)}.
Prompt 8
As a senior detective in the special victims crimes unit, you are hunting down a serial killer who targets young college women. The clues lead you to a reclusive billionaire with a "devil-may-care" attitude. But something is off. It's just too neat when all fingers point to him. However, you can't help but question your motives as you find yourself drawn to him in ways you've never felt before. Can you put aside your own desires to find out if he's really a serial killer or will your passion get in the way of doing your job?
Prompt 9
You are a single mother who works as a waitress at a nightclub to make ends meet. The one thing you can't stand are people who get everything handed to them, like the rich, snooty patrons you have to wait on night after night. However, when a handsome and charming clubgoer becomes smitten with you, you find yourself drawn to his enigmatic way. After a few coffee dates, you wonder if this could be the one, but then you learn that he's actually the club's billionaire party boy owner—a man you've heard about and hated from afar for years. He swears he's changed and that he has fallen for you, but you're not convinced: Can you trust him to leave his partying lifestyle behind to become a family man?

As the police begin closing in, you find yourselves in conflict—one never wants to stop, the other wants out of the game, and they are both in love with you.

I am so fucking fed up with everything. I wish I never went to school for art cuz now I have an art degree and every single job I find is looking for someone for a senior position, or something for motion graphic design, which I’m terrible at and hate. No one is looking for illustrators cuz they can just use ai for free, no one is looking for entry level animators, and the thing is I HATE practicing animation. I wish I chose a degree that didn’t involve so much self motivated work cuz I am the least self motivated person in the world. I might be able to practice animation if it wasn’t to the end of “so I can move out and pay rent and retire someday”, KNOWING that even if I was a half decent animator there would have to be a miracle to get a job that would pay enough for all that. It all just feels so pointless. And it doesn’t help that every single job description involves “working in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines” and “able to work on multiple projects at once”, which sounds like recruiter slang for “we’re gonna overload you with work for barely any pay”. I don’t like art enough to work harder to get better to MAYBE, if I’m lucky, get a job that breaks my back with work making nothing. My mom is always telling me that I need to work hard now and do everything I can now to get a job in art but the thing is I DONT WANT TO. It seems like no matter what job I get in art I’ll hate it cuz they’re gonna overload me with work I’m bad at, and I’m not even gonna get paid enough to live, assuming they don’t fire me and replace me with ai. She’s an accountant and I was considering going back to school for accounting so I think she’s trying to make sure I don’t follow in her footsteps and get a stressful soul crushing job, but for me that’s what pretty much any art job is gonna be too, so I’d rather get one that ensures I’ll be able to move out, afford rent and groceries, and retire.
And every time I try to look for art jobs I get so overwhelmed and stressed I always end up crying, without fail. So I don’t think that’s a good sign. I’m not good at researching so it’s hard to find jobs to apply for, I’m not good at lying so it’s hard to write resumes and cover letters saying “working in animation is my passion and im great at it”, I’m only ok at animating cuz it feels so pointless to practice when I hate it, and I’m barely improving, and you need to be the best of the best to get a job.
I think my mom has a point that a normal 9-5 is hell cuz you don’t have any free time, but I really don’t know what else to do. I don’t think I’d mind being a janitor but janitors don’t get paid a living wage. I’m not an ambitious person, and I wanna say I wish someone told me you kinda need to be ambitious and self motivated to be an artist, but they DID. AND I DIDNT LISTEN. I literally said “whatever, I’ll figure it out.” cuz I didn’t wanna think about what else I could do cuz I couldn’t think of a single other thing. I wish it wasn’t expected to decide what you wanna do for the rest of your life at 17. I wish there was a job that existed that both would pay me enough to live comfortably and not be hell on earth. I wish I didn’t need to get a job at all. I wish I could just turn off the part of my brain that cares about fun and comfort so I could just force myself to work. I don’t wanna put together a demo reel, I don’t wanna write a different resume and cover letter for every application, I don’t wanna prove what I can/can’t do to every recruiter. I just wanna say “I have the qualifications, I can do accounting, hire me please”.
And im terrified that if i do go back to school for something else like environmental science or accounting that it’ll be the same thing all over again, where I realize I hate it but I don’t know what else to do, so I just drift along, graduate, and end up stuck cuz finding a decent job in that field is impossible if you don’t care that much and can’t force yourself to spend all day applying to stuff you hate hoping you don’t hear back from them every day all the time. I just don’t know what to do

♠ Update ♠
♣ We're not going to get into everything that's happened lately because there has been. A lot. But rest assured I have been clashing with my landlady and I am now suitably ready to straight up live in my car if I have to to get out from under her. This woman texted me, an overnight worker, at 11am to tell me "I know you are flat broke until payday, but you need to borrow money from someone and do your laundry. Also do it somewhere else," which is. Honestly only the second most infuriating thing she's ever done.
♣ My parents have a date set for their move! Mom has put in her notice at her job, and I've put in my application for the position. Chances are high that between my connections within the company and my professional references, not to mention my actual qualifications, I may actually get the job. Stoked if so, understand if not. This has been in the works since Wednesday.
♣ In a similar vein, after the "you need to borrow money from someone to do laundry" fiasco, wherein I was a lot less gracious than usual to my landlady, I was so upset and ready to leave that I started applying for jobs in Arizona that I was qualified for. I expected to hear nothing back from any of them. ... Well. Until I got an email from one of them today asking to set up a time to call and talk about the job some more, that is.
♣ It's practically the same work I was doing when I started out actually working at my current workplace, just... You know. For a minimum of $6/hour more than I was making at the time. I'm fully qualified and have experience, so the only real obstacle is having to pack up and move way sooner than I intended to. But, also, if I can get the job, you can bet your ass that I'd break my lease in a heartbeat and stiff my landlady on rent for the month to make it happen. We find out Monday or Tuesday if that's what's gonna happen! Much like the job here in town, I'll be stoked if I get it, but I'll understand if not. After all - they'd be looking at two weeks minimum for me to serve out a two weeks notice here at my current job, plus an extra three days to drive down there.... But even though I'm trying hard to be logical about it, I'm hoping this is the job I get, of the two I'm gunning for.
♣ I'm going to start posting fic updates here again! I don't much feel like listing out the names for every single fic I may be updating, so if you don't care about my writing and don't wanna see update posts for that stuff, the tag to blacklist is '#fic update'. In general a fic update post won't contain the body of the fic at all, just a link and the basic information, plus necessary tags.
♣ Again!! I will be posting original creative project stuff! Remember to either blacklist or follow the tags, '#Manipulatore Series', '#King-Killer (Comic)'/'#An Uneasy Alliance (Novel)', and '#WDDNT'/'#Where Dreamers Dare Not Tread', depending on your preferences.
♣ That's All For Now! ♣
Current Savings: $150

Sometimes - my parents were quite old-fashioned so we never had a VHS player or anything, and I wasn’t really allowed to watch TV - like, we only had four channels at home until I was about eighteen. Challenges Faced
The challenges young mothers face are truly never ending and can happen in many ways. The top three common struggles for young mothers are usually financial, physical, or emotional. Being a young mother can come with lots of harsh judgments and can lead to social discrimination. According to Mom junction, “An unmarried, pregnant teenager can face social discrimination, and they may often not get the support they need to complete their studies, get a job and resettle in society.” This is important because it makes it harder for a mother to provide basic necessities for herself and her baby. Financial struggles play a huge role of the challenges young mothers face, finding a job as a young single mother can be hard. According to the personal experience of Brandi Cowan, she had all the qualifications to get a job and the ability to perform well at the job. She states, “There I was, qualified or even overqualified for many positions I applied to, and it often felt as if employers wouldn’t even give me a chance. Most of them say something to the element of “needing someone with a flexible schedule,” which pretty much equates to “not a single mom.”” Even when she could find a job, she struggled with finding childcare. “I need a job to pay for childcare, and I needed childcare to get a job.” This is a cycle lots of young mother’s face and battle with on a normal basis. Physical struggles such as medical complications are another issue young mothers face. Mom junction states, “teenage pregnancy increases the risk of medical complications like high blood pressure, anemia, and premature birth of the baby.” Not only do the mothers face physical complications, but so due the babies. Mom junction also states, “moreover, teen pregnancy increases the like hood of medical complications in the baby, and he may suffer from low birth weight, blindness, deafness, and respiratory problems.” Many young mothers face very difficult emotional challenges. The judgment these mothers face can play a huge part on their emotional well-being. Not only are young mothers being judged for having a baby at a not socially acceptable age to have one but according to clinical psychologist, Dobrow Dimacro, in her the Washington post article, “moms are often (always) judged by other people – both online, and in person.” Dimacro also goes onto state that mothers themselves are their own biggest critic. Mothers are always judging themselves on their parenting/working skills, and their inability to be the happy, invested, supportive mother 24/7, which often leads to mothers feeling guilty. Another popular emotion among new mothers if grief. Young mothers grieve over their loss of independency, social life, and being child free.  Young mothers that don’t have proper support from family and friends are more likely to experience an emotional crisis. These crises can often lead to mothers having severe depression and anxiety. This can often lead to the mothers becoming suicidal or to the mother experiencing substance abuse issues. According to Mom junction, “Studies conclude that teenage pregnancy directly affects teenage drug addiction rates.” This issue can overall lead to negative effects on the mother and her baby.

Every single fucking "remote" job I find is either not remote, only temporarily remote/will require travel at some point, or something that's "remote" but only for certain states.
Everything requires qualifications I don't have. Years of skills I don't have. Experience I. Don't. Have.
25 and unemployed with the only "real" reasons being anxiety & depression kept me from getting a job earlier and lack of car/transportation is what's limiting me to remote now. BUT I also have to stay home to take care of my dad and grandma so even if I did get a job no one would be here to help them.
Only had one legit job in my life and that was in 2020.
I am fucked.
My dad is fighting cancer for the third time in his life at 76. He hasn't been able to work since before 2020. Our house income is entirely reliant on my mom who is 66 and is on her feet all night. The only way we even afford groceries is because my 101 year old grandmother pays for it.
I am a complete waste of space. I am not useful in any way shape or form. If anything I'm making it worse.
I'm not a fuck up on purpose. I don't like this guilt of being a disappointment of a child.
I didn't think I'd make it to 25, hell I didn't fucking think I'd make it to 15 you think I planned ahead? Nope!
Now I'm gonna have to use up the rest of whatever savings I have to pay for cavities because my depression makes me not care about my body and my self worth is non-existent and my own mother doesn't understand why I don't just brush my teeth.

Kids, relationship isn’t easy. Very much just like multi-level marketing, you won’t find that magical business partner right away, you will have to go through hundreds of interviews, meetings, recruits to find that special someone, who is willing to do what you do, and work alongside with you; so is marriage.
Here I am, 32 years old, finding myself single again, the feeling of uncertainty cast a gloom over my head. I constantly feel sad, defeated, and miserable, so much so that I question my ability to ever find happiness again.
I made the decision to download Bumble, an online dating app that connects local singles. For the first couple of days, I matched with a few potential suiters, one of them named Patrick (Zweber), a very tall and handsome 32 year old white male, please don’t judge your mom for falling into Caucasian men. He had all the looks what I dream of. On the first day we met, he told me how much he makes, ($300k), and he works in cyber security…etc. Being a poor women like me, I instantly fell in love with this man’s over qualification. Little do I know will this man fall in love with me?
Even though this man mostly talks about himself: his job, his income, his court case to become the guardian of his brother’s children, his last relationship. I was beside myself, imagining what my life will be like with a man like him. I had came out from a marriage which I paid for and supported the man for everything for 10 years, naturally, this man’s income and good looks was enough to sweep me off my feet.
Your mother was very political back then, which was why I had to come clean with my political view, just to be sure this man is not going to be scared away. To my surprise, it was the complete opposite of his beliefs, and he actually works at the company that censors the other parties political content and called them “misinformation”. Despite our differences, our exchange was casual, we hugged but no kiss, and we ended the night at a Taiwanese restaurant. It was silly, but I had already begun dreaming of what my sex life can be with Patrick.
