I just wanna clear this up because I've seen a lot of people get old Alastor lore mixed up (especially on twitter). Again, I only tagged these posts for Charlastors because they're a community I find welcoming within the fandom and I know a lot have genuine interest in his romantic side/ability to have relationships.
I used to follow Zoophobia and remember some tidbits, but since it was so long ago it's understandable a lot of stuff is probably lost! So I hope this will serve as a post for anyone unfamiliar. Feel free to add if you remember/have screenshots of anything.
Basically, before Hazbin Hotel, Viv had a webcomic called Zoophobia. Alastor was later taken from this series and added to the demon crew, who would later be used for Hazbin.
During the Zoophobia era, Alastor was kind of a little shota lmao
He was a cannibal deer who had an obsession with this other deer character called Autumn
Generally he was obsessed with ALL magical deer, but Autumn was hilarious to get a reaction out of so Alastor found it funny to torment his obsession, as all psycho killers do.
However, he had somewhat human qualities such as his relationship with Mimzy as most people know about. I believe it was mostly on Mimzy's part rather than Alastor's.
Before Alastor was removed to be added to Hazbin, he was written to have a big crush on another character!
KayCee was a chaos spirit who Alastor fell in love with. I have some theories that she possibly could be a character recycled for an upcoming villain in Hazbin, but we'll see about that... (yes, it could be Roo).
I think it's interesting seeing this side to him. I do believe his character has hardly changed since this development, but I'm sure he has been given much more depth.
KayCee was also one of Viv's faves.

BASED Joris.
Bakara really thinks that Joris is stupid enough to go with her, while Joris employs the classical battle tactic of lying, by approaching her until she let go of Lilotte and saying "im going to kill you or hurt you in some way [giggle]" immediately after.
But as Bakara has shown repeatedly, even in this scene alone, she doesn't think highly of Joris. Even if she tried really hard to pretend that she did.
Well, she doesn't think of anyone highly, actually. Including herself.
This screenshot will get a lot of usage during ova2 liveblog, followers. It's literally THE reaction image for ova2.
While watching this movie, I always go between different extremes, when thinking about Joris and Bakara's relationship in the future. Would it become worse? Would they be close? Would they hate each other?
Every time I have a different answer, which is probably an answer in on itself.
My current take is that whether Joris and Bakara consider one another a friend probably varies from year to year. I can see it clearly: her telling him stories of Jahash. Her helping him around the home. Her criticizing him harshly for being a failure of a huppermage (it's as unacceptable for him to be that, as it is for her). Her stopping talking to him after he leaves the academy. Beginning to talk to him again after a few years, when he has a very close call to death while adventuring, — angry at him, because don't you dare die on me while we're in one of our "I don't talk to you" argument phases. Rinse and repeat.
I think it's funny. Atcham's greatest wish, besides hair, has always been "I want someone in my family to care about me," while Bakara...
Whike Bakara, as an heir of a Bontarian hero, would probably fear being in the wrong, — an evildoer, — the very most.
No wonder they're so shocked.
Both of them are experiencing some entirely new emotions, thanks to Joris.
It's not really about Bonta. It's about revenge. And it's about her feeling inadequate. And it's about her feeling like a failure.
As far as she's concerned, even a dofus doesn't want her, with how broken she is. He wants some weird, off-putting, Julith-related 10yo instead.
One has to wonder, if it is a genuine plea, or if she is manipulating Bakara by revealing the truth. Because she doesn't want to be blown to pieces by a dofus.
It's a bit hard to analyse this part of the movie because I'll be real, there's so much occuring all at the same time. Like bro. Imagine being Joris here.
The woman who killed your dads is now like "I am going to bring one of them back", and also another one came back 5 minutes ago, but also things are exploding and fire is everywhere, and also your aunt just tried to kill your uncle?? And also stole your dragon egg magical nuke.
Even if everything Julith said was true, — her cold, cold reaction to a fireball hitting her son, the way she looks at Bakara like at dirt, and the way she says "quit fooling around", point so, so heavily towards her revelation of this information being a tactical way to manipulate Bakara.

Because I literally can't keep my mouth shut I gotta comment on the Gale Fatherhood Discourse TM lmao. /(it's not really discourse at all).
This gets long, sorry not sorry 💕💕💕
First I gotta say it loud and clear for all y'all (because I know how tumblr works: its all or nothing for canon discourse)- if you don't jive with parenthood headcanons that's totally valid. If you find it icky, I get you. If you enjoy the headcanons, more power to you to create them and enjoy them. I love to see different perspectives in fandom content. It means the original material is inspiring. What follows is my interpretation of the content that may or may not align with your interpretation. And that's not a reflection on you or I if our interpretations don't align.
Okay with that out of the way--
I have a p different interpretation of the "I'm not father material " line from Gale. In the context of the scene, as most know, Tav is asking Gale to open up their relationship (for Halsin).

Gale is notoriously awkward around the concept of sex (ala his reaction to the foursome in the brothel), fiercely monogamous to the point of obsessive devotion, and known to make jokes in dark situations. I interpret this reaction not as naivete or a moment of honesty, but an intentional attempt to gain some control over the conversation. Gale is trying to defuse the situation because he feels uncomfortable and bad about it!! We already know he has problems with feeling inferior in romantic relationships. Tav walking up and just asking to have sex with another guy, to Gale, would call into question his own position in the relationship. I mean, just look at the very next line:
"I thought what we had meant something to you."
He's angry and afraid that he's going to lose someone he loves. He's not genuinely commenting on his opinion of parenthood, he's just going through it.
This conversation also mirrors his reaction in the conversation in which Tav is romancing someone else and Gale asks them to choose.
So no, in my opinion, I don't think it's really the smoking gun of the canon that some people are making it out to be. It's a very Gale response tho, it all makes sense in the meta of his issues with romance and self-esteem.
I also have some thoughts on his opinion of students (which some ppl have cited towards the Gale is a Bad Father side).
At some point, I can't find a screenshot, Gale mentions he once had apprentices but they really annoyed him. (Which is very funny tbh.) Then, during the Trial of Love, choosing the correct answer of "apple" for the "What food is Gale?" question, gets you this line:

So in his incredibly vulnerable Trial of Love, typified by his own honesty, he admits that he dreams of being a professor and having devoted students.
Does this reflect his opinions on parenthood? Not really imo.
I think this aligns way more with Gale's desire to have someone devote love and attention to him. To be respected and lauded. Gale desperately wants to be acknowledged for his genius, his arcane skills, and to be appreciated for sharing his knowledge (read: sharing his true self, the little nerdy wizard guy Gale Dekarios). It connects back to the concept of ✨Gale of Warerdeep ✨, the fabricated man he wanted to be to impress Mystra, and gain a high level of respect and awe. Not so much a commentary on how he feels about students as people or children. The students are just the vessel through which he can gain respect.
But the tl;dr of it all is that I don't think there is a canon moment that makes a statement clearly on Gale's interest in starting a family or his thoughts on children. I think it's a really interesting thought experiment to dissect and contemplate what kind of father Gale might be like based on the canon examples we have to work with. So whichever camp you fall into, so long as you're engaged and having fun with it, you're doing it right.

Hi, Anon! I'm slowly making my way through the backup of Anons I've had from last week, so my thanks to you for being so patient. I'd seen this interview briefly in the lead up to the release of GO 2, but I think it got lost in the shuffle with all the other interviews and content we were getting, so I'm glad you brought it to my attention again.
(I also had a really weird day in the fandom yesterday, with one person blocking me immediately after I reblogged a post of theirs, and another person subtweeting--well, taking a screenshot/reposting instead of reblogging--one of my polls just to attack me, and then tagging it as if I somehow wouldn't see it in the tags. I just...what? So your kind words about my blog are truly appreciated, because both of these incidents had me feeling pretty low last night...)
For those who haven't seen it, here's the full interview:

What I love about this interview--apart from the clearly deliberately chosen video title and thumbnail text--is that this interviewer was one of the few who really "went there" regarding Aziraphale and Crowley's relationship and specifically asked about romance. (Granted, calling it "the love that dare not speak its name" wasn't great, but it was still light years ahead of the verbiage used by some of the other interviewers.)
She also asked questions that went beyond the typical GO 2 presser pablum, and I think got some genuine reactions out of David as a result, as you mentioned. In the first bit you highlighted, I could see what you described, with David's emotions betraying him, and it's especially interesting to watch now that the season has come out (as opposed to watching it before):
David clearly was trying to skate around things/not give anything away, but you see that mask slip just slightly. (I also love that he comes much, much closer to slipping and far more overtly in the interviews with Michael than when he is by himself.) It's giving me the same feeling as those pictures of Michael looking super smug after that one day of filming in 2022--as if there is something they both know that we don't. (And not necessarily just The Kiss...)
The second moment you touched on struck me even more, in terms of David's emotions betraying him. Again, I think there was something about the way this interviewer asked questions and got at the heart of not just Aziraphale and Crowley's relationship but also his and Michael's that caught David by surprise and somehow got him to open up more than perhaps even he expected:
I completely agree about the dreamy and playful smile at the end, as well as him looking up as if replaying a memory. I think the interviewer again subtly but clearly specifying real life (as opposed to the Staged versions of themselves, for instance) pushed David into that place of thinking about his and Michael's dynamic, and that his reaction is such an obviously positive one is so wonderful to see.
Perhaps what I love about this most of all is that it's another example of how soft David and Michael are when they talk about each other when the other one isn't there. It brings to mind Michael talking about David's "bad habits" at MCM Comic Con last year, and how in both cases, they're taking the piss out of each other, but in the sweetest way possible, because it is underpinned by so much love and affection. Beautiful.
So yes, those are my thoughts on this interview. Glad to know that you saw the same things that I and others have noticed, too, and that there seem to be more of us who do see than who don't. Thanks for writing in, Anon! x

This four five "six"-year-old is going through. A Lot. I kinda love how that ranges from difficult math problems to protecting her loved ones from bombs, which should be terrifying but I am not immune to Endo's writing and humor. All Forgers deserve their peace and what Anya deserves in particular is to get more rascal gremlin time than stressed gremlin time.

Since That scene of "there's a trace of true emotion in his smile" I am growing weak on the knees every time Loid smiles because. How do I know for sure it's all fake? What is there to dispute my view that his expressions are starting to betray his true emotions?

I've been so used to such expressions that I immediately assume something funny is happening here. I cannot for the life of me make out the environment around him, or if he could be shocked by looking at something/someone or is just leaning back and having a CrisisTM and staring at the void. Could be just Anya being 0.1 seconds away from accidentally revealing she knows he's a spy, though. Or maybe Yor made another exhibit of her super strength and he's left with the most confusing boner of his life.

I smell character development. He's sweating in both cases so in the first one he's not just being a little shit. It means Stuff is happening. Do you see what a few drops of manga sweat can do.
For some reason it's in this one that I see his O_O expression and I'm like "oh serious stuff is happening is his father being horrible to him again" instead of thinking that it could be a funny moment. I love not knowing and I love not knowing when those stuff will happen, I genuinely mean it.

So I finished Diamond is Unbreakable
I typed one of these for Stardust Crusaders ages ago when I finished it and I wanted to do the same for DiU since like, my reactions to this one were so Big and visceral. Long post ahead!!
Again a disclaimer that I have been livetweeting JJBA in this thread, and specifically from here onwards was my DiU livetweet if you wanna experience it. It might provide some context but I'll be sure to add most of what you "need" to know here as screenshots anyway
What I liked
First things first the back and forth mood between tension and funny moments dot com was actually kind of nice, in retrospect? It really did do for a nice change of pace from the absurdity of SC and brought me back a lil to how BT handled its mood. Granted this is also a bit of a negative for me as well but I felt this flowed better than it did in Stardust Crusaders, so much so that the dychotomy really did feel earned
I genuinely did love the characters also!! I have Four (4) that were my favourites, but a lot of them brought at least SOMETHING to the table. There's a big problem again of Araki having way too many characters at once and introducing too many and making them less developed as a result, and a lot of them are one-off, but at the very LEAST he manages to pull what I called a Ducktales 2017 and mix and match different characters together
I think a good part of why this worked at all is how things were contained to just Morioh, which means everyone has to interact one way or another. It's a small town, everyone is neighbours, which means there WILL be overlap. I think that was a brilliant idea for Araki since he likes making way too many OCs so, this worked, in a way
Also, Josuke and Okuyasu's friendship… I was legitimately sold on it. I like how it felt like it developed over time and they found a common ground, because that is exactly how it was depicted and how it felt. But I really liked it, it made the last few episodes hit HARD for me. I deadass felt Josuke's rage. He was devastated and covering it up with anger
That brings me to Josuke. I was also on the fence about Josuke for a long time, but he won me over in the end. He's a lot like Joseph (I'll fucking get to that) which was a welcome change from Jotaro, and I do think I prefer characters with his energy. But he's a lot less like... mature, I'd say? Than Joseph was (and that's saying something), and that helps them both be distinct from one another. I think Josuke utilizes his anger to cover up for a lot of emotions he doesn't like or doesn't want to feel, and to push himself through situations that need it, but he's really a chill guy, if stupid. I like that about him
Oh wait, back up, speaking of Jotaro. I like how DiU utilized him a LOT in the sense that it recontextualized what he went through in SC, what he is like now, and the way he copes, which is in no way. I really liked his relationship with Koichi, actually. And I wish he'd been actually Josuke's like dad or something bc not only do I think that would've been a much much more interesting story, I also think the dynamic between him and Josuke was rather underutilized and adding this change of them being estranged father and son would've been a good way to toy with it, considering weird Joestar bonds have been a thing before
This man is so traumatized it's not even funny
I liked the presentation of it all, the creative use of Stands, the silliness, the mystery at the end, a LOT of it. I think DiU is a good part. I just have to tell you what I hated next
What I didn't like
Joseph.
If you go through the thread you see that the IMMEDIATE reaction I had to the bastard child twist was to get pissed and stop watching. I don't know why this had to be a thing, it's just so stupid. Can we seriously have no Joestar relationships that aren't a direct descendant kinda thing here? It's part of why I wish Josuke had been Jotaro's son instead, or at the very fucking least, a cousin. It's more interesting, but Araki barely even used Joseph anyway. He's senile for crying out loud. There's not a lot he CAN do, and everyone knows it--he's only there to further convince me that Araki hates him
Oh, also? Fuck Yukako and the way the show pushed her and Koichi together. Like, WHY? Why did that make sense in your head, Araki? Because it doesn't. I'm fully convinced Koichi is under Cinderella's influence even though Aya's dead. Shoo. Fuck Yukako.
I also felt like a lot of episodes were just there to drag the plot out and the quality of the Part was like... a rollercoaster. I could be watching a great episode one moment, then a shitty one next. Also, the story really only picked up with the introduction of Reimi and the Kira mystery, and I resent it for that because it really did feel like we were just fucking around wasting time before that, but I also recognize that Araki DID use the start of the Part to lay down a lot of groundwork and worldbuilding--it's just that he did a piss poor job at making it interesting
Also while I'm ambivalent on it, the fact that so many characters were introduced as total freaks and then they mellowed out and became like, relatively normal... why? All it did was make me hesitant to like some characters, like Yukako, Hayato, and Rohan. Rohan became one of my favourites and I still could not stop thinking about how he almost killed Koichi (although I did think him thinking that Koichi was his best friend after a long time passed was honestly kind of adorable?)
Another thing I am disappointed about was that flashback that Josuke had where a really injured man with a pompadour pushed the car out of the snow. EVERYTHING was pointing to that being Josuke. That was Josuke and you CANNOT convince me otherwise--he was way too stylized as him to not have been. And then nothing came of it!! I'm disappointed!!! Like, mnior I guess but that had me on the edge of my seat the ENTIRE show!! I was so ready!!!!! That was so!!! It would have said a lot about Josuke's self love!!!! I am mad that we fucking lost it!!!!!!
LIKE THIS IS JOSUKE. THIS WOULD'VE BEEN SO FUCKING COOL. WE'VE ALREADY FUCKED WITH TIME ONCE WE CAN DO IT AGAIN
Ugh anyway
I liked Kira as a villain but I feel like he was kind of underutilized. When the show introduced his dad, I started to feel the exhaustion of yet another bumbling moron except this time, it wasn't even a bumbling moron I liked. The guy was just... an annoyance both mechanically and as a character. Kira playing house was interesting and his weird relationship w his fake wife and kid was something I Wished got explored more, because when he had to go into hiding... god that was tense. The problem is we didn't get to see him hide much
Final Thoughts
I think Araki improved a lot on what made Part 3 so flawed and decided to take a page out of his Part 2 book for what worked there, and made something pretty solid. Part 4 is still really flawed, but I must admit it is a general improvement on what he's laid down on the table. This energy is fantastic, I just wish he'd reign it in a little and not get so carried away
Anyway, I don't have a LOT of thoughts on Part 4 actually, so I'll end this post by showing you the blorbos I made in this Part

I hadn't fully decided on a topic for this module but I woke up on the morning the video above was posted seeing the latest AI innovations from OpenAI with their new text-to-video software - Sora. The new state of the art AI video software is staggeringly advanced, at a glance these videos are indistinguishable from real life and once held under scrutiny there are some errors here and there but with the rate it has progressed already, it wouldn't be surprising if these issues are cleared up in a years time.
This is the link to the website about Sora and at the time of posting this, it is not open for public use. Browsing through the collection they have provided highlights the capabilities of the software in its current state and the potential impact it may have on the future of video media. This software could easily replace an industry for stock footage and further developments may have the capacity to generate filler footage for TV/Film.

I had looked into the state of AI during November as I wanted to better understand where the world was at in regards to AI. The interview above is with Mo Gawdat, someone who was previously on the front lines of AI innovation whilst working at Google X. Whilst it is rampant with fear-mongering (likely to drum up sales for the book about AI that he is promoting) it is very interesting to hear just how fast AI is progressing in the present and recent developments with Chat GPT and Sora show just how fast this tech is developing. The notes and screenshot are part of the work I did for the mi5018 module when we also happened to be discussing the topic of AI and as it is relevant I've included it here too. I sum up some pros and cons of AI in the future loosely whilst preparing for a mini debate in class and wrote about AI's future impact for my blog.

This is a brief summary showing what the news is discussing on the topic of AI so that I could compare what I had found in my own research compared to what simplified version was being told on the news.

This video was reassuring because at this point I had spent a lot of the day shocked by the technology and what it could mean for my career prospects in animation in one and a half years time when I graduate - will AI have taken the role of entry level animators? If so, will I be skilled enough to take on more advanced animation work so that I can keep up in this industry? This video explained the limitations of the software in its current state and why it can't yet be used in the film/TV industry due to a lack of intuitive editing capabilities within the software. Essentially, where Sora is now what you see is what you get and whilst it may be stunning photo-realistic footage, it can't yet be tweaked in such a way that it could expediate the film-making process. Right now it is more of a gimmick but this gimmick is progressing exponentially and already poses a serious threat to videographers making a living creating stock footage.

It was funny to see a new iteration of a tech bro trying to capitalise on this new trend of AI video by creating his own "mastermind" community giving you the viewer the chance to get the scoop of the latest in AI technology. It was interesting to see a mix of different reactions to the software to better put it all into perspective in terms of the genuine implications that AI has in the present and to see the wild claims being made about the software from different sources.

This Youtuber gave a more interesting insight into AI as a whole rather than just on Sora and discussed topics like AGI which I had not yet learnt about but are relevant to the topic of AI as a whole. All of the big tech companies like Google and OpenAI that are developing their own AI are working towards AGI currently. AGI stands for Artificial General Intelligence and could act as a replacement for humans in certain roles as it is a computer that is as smart as an individual and would be able to think faster and make more accurate predictions within the parameters of the task it has been programmed to work on. In some ways, the tech that we already have is at the level of AGI as AI can already carry out certain tasks better than humans starting with primitive iterations like Deep Blue which beat Garry Kasparov the world chess champion in 1997. The Youtuber above looks over the predictions of economists and scientists to give a detailed look into the prevailing thoughts about the capacity of contemporary AI and when AGI could be realised.

As OpenAI is seemingly the leader in the race towards AGI, I wanted to learn a little more about the current CEO of the company Sam Altman. It was interesting to hear what the man steering the ship had to say about AI even though it is undermined by the PR for himself and his company. There is still something to be learnt from the video above because we are hearing from the horses mouth what they believe about the pros and cons of AI and what realistically it could achieve contrary to some of the uninformed speculation in some of the other videos I watched covering the topic.

This video looked deeper into OpenAI as a company and discussed the recent controversy surrounding Altman's firing and subsequent re-instating to his position of CEO of OpenAI.
After watching enough videos about AI for one day, this sudden change of events on Feb 15th steered the focus of this project towards AI as not only was it a topic I was interested in part due to the films I watched growing up but it was also a current topic which I have a vested interest in because of the threat it currently poses to my future career.

The anon who sent the ask about rereading Reinvention here, I’m so glad it still holds a special place in your heart as it does for me too.
My favourite parts have always been how you describe Evan’s avoidance at the start (even now, so many years later, he remains so relatable). Bringing the nail polish to Connor and painting his nails, the thought behind the gesture and the way Connor still holds his hand out after everything and let’s him do it and just can’t seem to really give up on Evan. All of their moments together make me feel so soft. Evan laying under the tree with his head on Connor’s chest, and Connor beckoning him down from his own tree when he climbs it and seems to be stirring with emotions he doesn’t know how to put words to. The encouragement to take medication, the reminders, the forgetfulness. The acceptance on what might not be the healthiest thing, but it’s what’s there and needed right now, so there’s no judgement.
And then they’re together, and you have Evan’s mother who is distant because she has to work so much, but is accepting and comforting when she does find out. In comparison to Connor’s parents who are too much all the time, too close, and yet aren’t immediately okay with things. The constant and stark differences between them that makes the two even more aware of their own difficulties with their own respective family.
Also just. The characters being allowed to break down. The affection means so much but the tears and them being unsure and Connor hitting the wall at one point. It’s everything to me. They’re both allowed to struggle and slip and not know what to do, and they both find ways to keep getting up after it. They take the paths they take and they’re allowed to live their lives as they each want to. They’re together but allowed to be individual, and maybe that’s not the easiest thing but they manage it and they do it well
This is probably in part incomprehensible as it’s nearing 5am as I type but yeah. Your writing is so well done and it still holds up brilliantly all this time later. Thank you for sharing it and for keeping it up so it could be found again
^ Literally this is how I feel right now. Like, not to respond with a reaction gif to a tumblr ask in the year 2023, but... Oh my gosh. This was not incomprehensible to me it made complete sense and it made me genuinely tear up a little bit because I did not expect this level of love about something that I Created. It's words like this that make me want to write so much again. I just sent a screenshot of this message to my friend who actually convinced me to write Reinvention and he said, "Haley you are a writer!!!". And I guess I am! I just really forget that sometimes.
I think the funniest part about a lot of Reinvention is that I was writing it as an undiagnosed 18 year old who had never experienced love before, not in the conventional way, and so when all of the comments would tell me how good I was portraying depression or anxiety... Well. It's funny in retrospect. I can definitely say for sure that I put a lot of me in those boys when I was putting pen to paper and a lot of the interactions were, I think, just how I wished that I would be treated. It's the little things.

No one cares, but there are hundreds of VnC panels saved for my series of useless thoughts about VnC panels. Yes, I have lots of thoughts (that will help no one) and minimal writing skills. So, I can't seem to sort things out, lol, just like my conflicting feelings between my massive crush with Noé and finding VaNoé's relationship (platonic and romantic) precious. But due to the latest chapter, my shipper mind is prevailing. That's why today, I will stay away from the canon story and indulge my lonely heart.

They are so precious. Vani is really vocal with his interest with Noé in the first few chapters. And he's genuinely having fun with Noé, just look at him laughing like a normal 18 year old boy.

the probability of this happening with Vani and Noé right now is lower than my patience (which I barely have). Last time Noé tried (to drink Vani's blood) Vani almost killed him, so lets skip this one...

Why so handsome, Noé? My heart is fragile, you know? Noé using Vani's words against him is just so funny and Vani can't really win against Noé since the beginning, lol. Anyways, we can't ignore what Mochijun-sensei mentioned in the bluebird app. This scene is the first time that older Noé smiled in the series.

Roland: She seems to shine then?
This is hard to dig because the story is told in Noé's POV. And Noé is shining like a lot specially for tarte tatin. But my shipper eyes won't lose. Yes, Noé's so handsome/pretty when he's with Vani. So here you have it.

Psych, Shawn Spencer Meta
and now, to complete the dump of my psych thoughts, i thought i'd collate some various discord thoughts and put them all side by side into a post. that way, i can see all my analyses along side one another and easily see how they changed throughout the show's seasons. that being said, here are my thoughts on shawn spencer's psychology, as of season 6 episode 6, 'Shawn Interrupted':
quick disclaimer: the type of analysis I'm doing here is very rudimentary (ie: 'hmm i bet having an absent mother and a controlling father would have An Impact™ on a child', and, 'hey maybe this character who has issues with concentration could have adhd'), and i want to stress that i am very much not an expert, or even really anything more than a lay-man on issues of psychology, trauma, and abuse. truly, i am just chilling, attempting to connect some dots. that being said, here are The Thoughts:
and now, a brief interlude to talk about how i think shawn feels about gus, as of the finale of season 6:
since i don't go much into any evidence in this screenshot - the person im talking to hasn't seen the show, so i didn't want to get bogged down in details that would ultimately mean nothing to them - here's a brief elaboration on what i mean:
the core tenant of the shawn + gus relationship is that they like each other. and yes, that's a very obvious thing to say, but its kind of necessary to establish - especially considering the habit of sitcoms + serial shows like this to accidentally write main characters that seemingly despise each other, and only seem to stick around each other bc of the demands of the genre.
so, shawn and gus like each other. they find each other funny, they enjoy each others company, they are very invested in each others success + happiness, etc. they spend a lot of time 'fighting' (ie: 'i hate you, shawn' + shawn calling gus some variant of lame), but the more of the show you watch the more obvious it becomes that this is very superficial bit that they do, and doesn't reflect their actual, big picture feelings abt the other party. even when they are actually for real fighting, the show makes a point to establish that the relationship itself is never in any real jeopardy (ie: that time shawn stormed out, only to come back in and ask gus for fashion advice. also, that time gus said to shawn's Face that it was highly unlikely that shawn could ever do something to fully, 100% drive him away).
now we're not going into hero worship territory here - the facts of the matter are that shawn and gus are both, genuinely, quite lame. they are nerds. dorks. idiots. etc. they fully recognise this in each other (if usually not themselves), and still think of each other as their favourite person!
so, yes, the scene in the polarising express where shawn imagines gus as a helpless slave to a woman who seemingly only loves his money, is more than a little bit of a joke at gus' expense. but shawn's reaction to the scene is very genuine - he is upset, first and foremost, that gus isn't being appreciated. because gus deserves appreciation! he really is just the 'specialest' boy in shawn's eyes, and shawn believes that he thus deserves an appropriate amount of recognition (ie: literally everything about the high school reunion episode, omg).
tl;dr: best friends who roast each other together, but still 100% believe that the other party deserves the world, stay together :)
