A couple of announcements
Tumblr media
//Got a few things I need to make you all aware of.
1 - Unavailability
//First of all I understand that this is very annoying, and frankly I find it annoying too, but I'm not going to be available to post for the next week as of today. This is because basically every day that I post, I'm preoccupied with some other matter.
//I have a doctors appointment on Friday for long lasting health issues, a wedding to attend on Sunday and Monday, and a funeral on Tuesday. So you probably won't be saying any genuine posts from me until Wednesday next week earliest.
//It's frankly very inconvinient, but these are important matters and I hope you can understand.
2 - Warriors of Other Worlds Release Date
//The second is that the beginning of the Warriors of Other Worlds arc, AKA the Danganronpa X Death Battle crossover that I set up at the end of last year will be dropping on the first day of March.
//I've addressed concerns about running the arc alongside the main story once already, but I believe that unlike the previous examples, we shouldn't have any real problems this time, considering this is very much a side spinoff arc and meant for more fun than anything else.
//Also, all the chapters are already pre-written and prepared, so you don't need to worry about delays or anything of that sort. There are a few things I want to make you all aware of in regards to this special event.
These will be the matchups that you all voted for, and unlike the other arcs, they will be available to read on Tumblr and ALSO Wattpad and AO3.
The release dates for the battles and the battles themselves are listed below (or at least the dates I HOPE for these battles to be up in the instance that something bad happens): 1: Makoto Naegi Vs Phoenix Wright (Ace Attorney) - March 1st 2: Mukuro Ikusaba Vs Kaede Kayano (Assassination Classroom) -March 4th 3: Akane Owari Vs Chie Satonaka (Persona 4) - March 7th 4: Peko Pekoyama Vs Right-Hand Man (Henry Stickmin) - March 10th 5: Sakura Ogami Vs Jonathan Joestar (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) - March 13th 6: Narumi Osone Vs Himiko Toga (My Hero Academia) - March 16th 7: Mikan Tsumiki Vs Fluttershy (My Little Pony) - March 19th 8: Komaru Naegi Vs Katie Mitchell (The Mitchell's Vs the Machines) - March 22nd 9: Kaede Akamatsu Vs Sara Chidouin (Your Turn To Die) - March 25th 10: Seiko Kimura Vs The Lizard (Marvel/Spider-Man) - March 28th 11: Hajime Hinata Vs Izuku Midoriya (My Hero Academia) - March 31st 12: Junko Enoshima Vs Monika (Doki Doki Literature Club) - April 3rd
I did the analysis and created this arc in tandem with two friends of mine in the DB community at university. Let the record say that we are in no way biased towards the Danganronpa characters, and don't intend to give that impression. We personally do not care about the verdict so long as we can make an entertaining display and analysis for you all. But we are a team of three people, so if there are some things we portray incorrectly or get wrong, don't hold it against us. We appreciate constructive feedback given to us calmly and appropriately; but also know that we won't be going back to make changes to the verdicts we've put in place. These are our final says on the matter, and whether you accept that or not is fine and shouldn't matter in the end.
In relation to this, I know how the death battle fandom is and I'm aware that it can be toxic at its worst, so I'm warning you all now that any toxicity will be treated appropriately with a permanent ban from the blog.
I've said this before, but this event is completely unofficial and fan-based. I'm not endorsed by the official Death Battle channel in any way shape or form. I know I don't need to say that, but I will.
//Any other rules that pertain to the event itself will be posted on the day of release. I will be doing regular posts of this event, so I hope you look forward to that.
3 - Clearing the Ask Box
//I haven't quite decided when I will do it, but I have so many asks in the box right now and it's more than I'm physically capable of keeping up with. So pretty soon, I will be clearing the box and starting from scratch.
//So this is just a shoutout that if you have any unanswered asks that date back to a while ago, I won't be overviewing them and if you really want me to answer them, I advise you send them again.
//I will let you guys know when this happens though.
4 - Naegibowl Poll
//The last thing I wanted to talk about briefly is that fairly recently, I made a poll asking the readers of the blog how they would like me to handle the relationship dynamic for Makoto Naegi.
//As things stand, Makoto is under the eye of three different girls; Kyoko, Mukuro and Sayaka, but is already married to one of them; Kyoko.
//People do still like to tease all three for their feelings for him, and I have hinted before, especially recently due to some asks, that the three girls also feel something for each other as well as Makoto, so I put up a poll to ask what I should do with that information: Either leave things as they are and let Makoto have one bride, or go the ploycule route.
Tumblr media
//Based on the results, the popular opinion seems to be to give all the girls a happy ending. Which you know what? I'm totally ok with.
//Don't expect anything soon, but I will act upon the results of this poll as soon as I can in the third phase of the story, assuming I actually get there.
//And that's all I have to announce for now. Hope you stay tuned for the updates and look forward to what I have in store.

Let’s talk about Chernobyl
I decided to challenge myself this week: I’m going to write a blogpost for the second Saturday in a row (given I’m posting this on a Wednesday, I didn’t make it - but I was close!). A feat I was able to manage for literal years until about eight months ago, but that’s a story for another time. And when I’ve had a drink.
To motivate myself to get started, I wanted to find a really interesting topic. And since last week’s post was about Silent Hill, ghost towns were on the brain. For some reason, it wasn’t until after I posted it that I remembered about basically the most famous ghost town of all time:
Chernobyl, of course.
But when I began my research for the post one humble Wednesday evening, I stumbled across something else I’d forgotten somehow:
Chernobyl’s in Ukraine.
You see, I’m torn on this one. I don’t know, I feel like I’m propping up a macabre history of Ukraine that involves me wittering on about the ghost workers of reactor 4, completely ignoring the fact that its citizens are actually fighting a war over there? It’s a bit like writing an article about Candyman and not talking racism about in America.
So, I decided I’m going to try to write this blogpost - but I’m really going to try to do it right. The story of Chernobyl is integral to the history of the Soviet Union, and the invasion of Ukraine this year will unfortunately fall on the same timeline.
Fact is, Chernobyl isn’t a place crawling with ghosts and spooky stories. This is a man-made horror, and most would agree its far more terrifying - and tragic - than any tale of the supernatural.
Let’s start with the history of Chernobyl - before the accident
Like most eastern European cities, a lot of Chernobyl’s history is about how frequently it changes hands. In the 13th century, it was just a crown village of Lithuania’s Grand Ducy. By the 16th century, it was part of the Kingdom of Poland. In the 18th century, it was part of the Russian Empire. And it was in that century that it’s tragic history began.
For two hundred years the city had been a prominent Jewish community, and as soon as the 18th century it was a major centre of Hasidic Judaism. But it faced a wave of pogroms by extreme nationalists (riots that typically involved massacring specific ethnic groups) in the early 20th century. Throughout the first few decades, the city was taken back by the Polish Army, and then went back to the Red Army before finally being incorporated into the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. Only decades later, the Jewish community faced tragedy yet again during the Holocaust.
But it was in the second half of the century that Chernobyl became a household name. In 1977,  government commissioned the Vladimir Lenin Nuclear Power Plant, the first in Ukraine. The first reactor was built in 1977, with three others following shortly after. It generated about 10% of Ukraine’s electricity before the 1986 accident, but interestingly enough prior to that event it faced a whole host of crises.
In 1982, a partial core meltdown went unnoticed for several hours, releasing a signifcant amount of radiation. And in 1984, “serious incidents” occurred in two reactors (the KGB documents were only declassified in April ‘21, so I think that’s all we’re gonna get).
Now, I was going to give a description of the surrounding area of the plant before the accident in 1986, like whether there was a hospital, a couple of schools, how much housing and other amenities. And we know that there were these things - the intrigue surrounding Chernobyl is that there are all these abandoned building to visit at one’s own peril. There’s even a funfair, apparently. But no one’s actually given any account of what life was like before the accident. That being said, I’m pretty sure there was a relatively well-developed community that centred around the employment the plant provided.
26th April 1986
It started with a routine safety test. A routine safety test that caused an unexpected power surge and a lot of steam build up. Steam build up that caused explosions. Explosions that blew reactor 4 apart.
The 1000 ton roof of the reactor is shot off into the sky. Walls and equipment cave in. Fires begin. Within five minutes, firefighters have arrived, unaware of the impact of the radiation and wearing no protective clothing.
A day later, residents are finally told they are being evacuated from Pripyat (the nearest settlement) and surrounding towns and villages. They’re told it’s temporary. Another day passes, and the outside world becomes aware that something is wrong: radiation is detected in the atmosphere in Sweden that they trace back to the USSR - they confirm an accident has happened, but give no details. Only spy satellite photos show the extent of the mysterious accident and its damage.
The next month, a huge cleanup begins, involving nearly a million people, including bulldozing villages and culling animals contaminated by the radiation.
Throughout May workers continue to carry out measures to minimise the spread of the radiation, like installing the sarcophagus (a concrete and metal structure to encase what’s left of reactor 4). 14 years later, the final working reactor was shut down.
The impact of the accident
Chernobyl is astounding. The statistics are jaw-dropping, it’s like my brain can’t compute that this happened and this will stay like this for a very, very long time.
There was seven times more radiation released at Chernobyl than created by the atomic bombs dropped on Japan. Radioactivity spread as far afield at France. Today, it is largely considered the worst disaster in the history of nuclear power generation.
That being said, our estimates of the impact of the tragedy are probably a bit cloudy: some sources claim two people were killed in the first explosions, others state 50. In 2005, the UN predicted a further 4,000 will die (which is probably a different number now, unfortunately) as a result of radiation exposure. Official documents from different authorities all put forward clashing statistics, each as tragic as the next. And some say people as far away as Moscow were reporting signs of radiation poisoning.
We think about five million citizens of the former USSR were affected by the disaster, and today the Ukrainian government (well, at least prior to the invasion, not sure how these systems are running now) pays over 30,000 women widowed by the disaster benefits.
But most staggerlingly, Chernobyl will be unsafe to live in for the next 20,000 years, according to today’s scientists. Where will humans be in 20,000 years? Will they still exist? Will we still have record of what happened in this place? Will our descendants thousands of years in the future develop urban legends of this mysterious place where people go and get ill? Or will medical science have developed to a place where we can limit the impact of radiation or cure cancer?
In 2006, Gorbachev - the leader of the USSR at that time - claimed that Chernobyl was “perhaps the real cause of the collapse of the Soviet Union”.
So, what’s Chernobyl like today?
Your first thought is “abandoned”, right? Empty buildings, swathes of vegetation, crumbling roads with the debris and litter of four odd decades ago still being blown across it? In most cases that’s true.
But even in the exclusion zone, where it’s illegal to live, about 150 people have flouted risk to live their old lives. And they regularly have visitors from so-called ‘dark tourists’: people that visit locations where the most horrendous human events have happened, like genocide, war and natural disasters.
Although I wouldn’t necessarily encourage anyone to try this kind of vacationing, I do understand the desire to visit such a location.
The peculiar sights of the abandoned city
While civilisation decays, nature has taken over
It’s the trademark aesthetic of a ghost town: being overrun by forests, bushes and weeds. But according to studies with soy beans, plants can become stronger in radiation: they weigh more, they take up water faster and they show signs of “protecting” themselves against radiation. Within three years, vegetation had recovered and breathed life back into the region, like the spread of the Red Forest.
The Red Forest was dense woodland consisting of pine trees from which the needles, when poisoned by the radiation, turned red. What was once a wasteland soon regenerated and is now full of silver birch. And all this vegetation has helped the local wildlife flourish.
The mutant monsters of Chernobyl?
Of all the urban legends surrounding it, one-eyed birds and two-headed dogs are among the stereotypical images conjured of the region. According to one study, the genetic mutations of animals increased by a factor of 20. But there are few reported physical mutations, most of which only include partial albinism.
In fact, Chernobyl is actually known these days for its huge populations of wild animals - including lil’ puppies. Dark tourists are advised not to pet the wild animals, no matters now cute the dogs are, because of the radioactive particles in their fur.
Wolves are seven times as abundant there than non-radioactive zones (and are supposedly mating with local wild dogs), and moose and wild boar have taken over the area. Even an endangered breed of horse is making a comeback, due to the lack of human activity. And as recently as 2014, they had the first brown bear sighting there in over a century.
Dark tourists have created the horror movie aesthetic
As much as the tragic backstory to Chernobyl sounds like the perfect urban legend, the rumours surrounding it have largely been put in place by non-supernatural forces: that means us.
A classic example of this is the number of creepy dolls that have been left on abandoned children’s beds in attempt to create Insta-worthy photo shoots. Fact is, what happened in Chernobyl doesn’t need legends of ghosts and long-lost spirits, nor conspiracy theories, to rouse fear in all of us.
We can see what it would really be like if some apocalyptic incident, like nuclear war, took place. And how well the rest of the world apparently gets on without us.

During the last full week of April, forthcoming launches include two Starlink missions planned on Monday and Friday, and another two more Falcon 9 flights lifting customer satellites. The first of these is the delayed WorldView Legion 1 & 2 mission which was originally due to fly last week and is now scheduled for Wednesday. The first Starlink mission of the week will also see another milestone reached with the 300th landing of a Falcon 9 booster on the Group 6-53 mission. The fifth Electron to launch this year will carry two demonstration missions into two notably different orbits on Wednesday. One of the two demonstrations being hoisted by Rocket Lab is a demonstration of a novel solar sail developed by NASA and powered by the pressure of sunlight acting upon the surface of the sail. The week will also deliver a crewed launch on Thursday when the Shenzhou 18 mission sends three more taikonauts to the Tianhe core module of China’s Tiangong space station. The number 13 resonates this week, with Shenzhou 18 being the 13th crewed mission of the Chinese space program, and Falcon 9 looking on course to repeat its current record of 13 flights in a month. This is reliant on the Galileo satellite mission, which has not yet been given a firm launch time and is currently scheduled to fly no earlier than Sunday, April 28. B1060 will be making its 20th and final flight and was the first booster to be recovered 13 times back in June 2022. This will be the first time a Falcon 9 single first stage has been expended since November 2022. Assuming the Galileo mission does launch this week, it will be the 82nd orbital launch of the year. This is 18 more than the count on the equivalent date last year, and largely due to SpaceX’s remarkable Falcon 9 launch cadence. Coincidentally 13 years ago this week Shuttle Endeavour was also ready on the pad for its final mission (STS-134), and the penultimate one for the Shuttle program. A malfunction on one of the auxiliary power units caused the launch to be scrubbed and delayed into May, however. This time last year there had also been the same number of Starship launches for the year so far — it’s been over a year now since Starship’s maiden flight back on April 20, 2023, on the IFT-1 mission. It is also ten years this week since the company achieved the first successful propulsive ocean touchdown of a liquid rocket engine orbital booster on the CRS-3 mission and the first Falcon 9 which flew with landing legs. Booster B1076-12 landed on droneship Just Read the Instructions, during the Eutelsat 36D mission in March 2024. (Credit: SpaceX) Falcon 9 Block 5 | Starlink Group 6-53 The first Starlink mission of the week is scheduled to launch from SLC-40 at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on Monday, April 22 at 6:40 PM EDT (22:40 UTC). The payload is another batch of 23 Starlink v2 Mini satellites massing around 16,800 kilograms and heading into an initial 285 by 293-kilometer orbit, inclined by 43 degrees. The booster for this mission has not yet been declared but is expected to land on the autonomous droneship Just Read the Instructions around 604 kilometers further downrange, while support ship Bob will recover the fairings. Significantly this will be the 300th landing of a Falcon 9 booster, and the 226th since the last unsuccessful one. These Group 6 missions continue, at least for the time being, to launch in numerical order except the missing Group 6-50 mission which remains unscheduled at present. This will be the 158th launch dedicated to Starlink overall and the 84th for the Gen2 series. SpaceX has successfully launched 24 Starlink satellites in a single batch in the past and has declared a desire to extend this number further to 28 in a single batch by the end of the year. Starlink launches from the east coast are expected to focus on this pad soon while LC-39A is prepared for the GOES-U launch on Falcon Heavy in June. As the week begins and before this flight, SpaceX has launched a total of 6,258 Starlink satellites, of which 406 have re-entered and 5,206 have moved into their operational orbit. Electron is prepared at LC-1 in Mahia Peninsula. (Credit: Rocket Lab) Electron / Curie | Beginning of the Swarm Rocket Lab is due to launch the fifth Electon of the year and its 47th mission overall on Wednesday, April 24 for the Beginning of the Swarm mission. Lift-off is scheduled at the start of an 85-minute window at 09:30 NZST (21:30 UTC on the 23rd) from pad LC-1B in the Mahia Peninsula of New Zealand. Two different payloads are sharing a ride for this mission. Firstly, NeonSat-1 is a demonstration mission ahead of the planned constellation of high-resolution optical satellites which would begin to launch from 2026 onward. The satellite was developed by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and its Satellite Technology Research Center which launched Korea’s first satellite (KITSAT-1) 32 years ago. This Earth observation satellite will monitor natural disasters along the Korean peninsula, applying artificial intelligence to its high-resolution imagery. It will be deployed 50 minutes into the mission into a circular orbit at 520 kilometers in altitude. Electron’s Kick Stage will then light its Curie engine to raise its altitude to 1,000 kilometers, with a second burn to then circularize the orbit where it will deploy a second payload one hour and 45 minutes into the mission. Render of NASA’s ACS3 Solar Sail in orbit. (Credit: NASA) This is another technology demonstration, developed by NASA’s Ames and Langley Research Centers. This Advanced Composite Solar Sail System (or ACS3) technology demonstration will deploy a solar sail from a cubesat using lightweight booms made from composite materials. As the name implies, this sail will leverage light from the sun and will be propelled by the pressure of sunlight acting upon it. The spacecraft will spend a couple of months in an initial flight and checkout phase before deployment of the booms and reflective sail. The craft needs to be at a sufficient altitude for the tiny force of sunlight that will be applied to the sail to overcome atmospheric drag. At this altitude, this force is said to be roughly equivalent to the weight of a paperclip resting on your palm. The craft will then perform a series of pointing maneuvers to demonstrate orbit raising and lowering which will span weeks, so it could be July or later before any results are known. It is intended that the data from this mission informs the creation of larger solar sails that could efficiently propel satellites for several usages such as communications relays on future crewed exploration missions, early warning satellites, or reconnaissance missions such as to near-Earth asteroids. Reducing mass could help to eliminate heavy propulsion systems and make longer-duration missions more efficient in both energy and cost. The kick stage will fire its engine retrograde one final time to lower its orbit, enabling atmospheric drag to eventually complete the task of deorbiting it, where it will burn up on re-entry. This mission required the addition of extra propellant tanks, extra batteries, and larger gas bottles for the reaction control system on the kick stage. Rocket Lab is moving closer toward the reuse of a recovered Electron first stage. The company announced in early April that the carbon composite first-stage Electron recovered from the Four of a Kind mission in January has entered the production line for final acceptance testing and qualification ahead of a reflight. Encapsulation complete for our 47th mission! NEONSAT-1 (@KAISTPR) and ACS3 (@NASA) are now safely enclosed within Electron’s fairing. The next time this nose cone opens up, these two satellites will be in space! ‘Beginning Of The Swarm’ Mission info: https://t.co/xyg2Ghty8K pic.twitter.com/i25zKlUqNs — Rocket Lab (@RocketLab) April 18, 2024 Falcon 9 Block 5 | WorldView Legion 1 & 2 A Falcon 9 was originally scheduled to launch from SLC-4E at Vandenberg Space Force Base last week on April 17, carrying two satellites massing a total of 1,500 kilograms into a Sun-synchronous orbit. This flight was postponed the day before launch, however, and is now scheduled for this Wednesday, April 24 at the start of a four-and-a-half-hour window at 11:30 AM PDT (18:30 UTC). The booster, which has yet to be confirmed, is expected to return to land on the pad at Landing Zone 4 located around 400 meters away from the launch mount. The WorldView Legion satellite constellation is Maxar Technologies’ next-generation constellation of Earth observation satellites, designed and built in-house at the company’s facilities in Palo Alto and San Jose, California. DigitalGlobe, which was later taken over by Maxar, first announced its selection of SpaceX as the launch provider back in 2018 when the satellites were initially anticipated to launch in two blocks of six. Hardware-based delays, as well as the complexity of the technology, have caused several setbacks. The planned constellation will now consist of six satellites in total, to be launched in pairs and will orbit in polar and mid-inclination orbits. The satellites are the first to utilize a new Maxar 500 series bus platform with better stability, agility, and pointing accuracy. They will occupy an approximately 500-kilometer altitude orbit when fully deployed, providing 30-centimeter high-resolution imagery and eight-band multispectral imagery across 15 revisits per day over the most active regions of the world. The satellites will triple the company’s coverage in 30-centimeter class resolution, capturing five million square kilometers of imagery each day. The satellites are designed with a 10-year lifespan. With @RTX_News, we developed a new telescope for the WorldView Legion satellites. They collect the high-quality images that customers have come to expect from us, but the telescope is smaller and requires less power.More details: https://t.co/PKttctsC39#ittakesalegion — Maxar Technologies (@Maxar) April 11, 2024 Applications will include supporting national security missions for monitoring and surveillance of ground-based potential threats or verifying enforced sanctions and treaties. The satellites also provide a variety of maritime monitoring functions such as the surveillance of natural disasters, pollution, and oil spills through to the detection of illegal fishing, piracy, drug smuggling, or human trafficking. Utilizing artificial intelligence algorithms, the WorldView Legion satellites can support the ability to detect, identify, and respond quickly to suspicious activities. Maxar worked with its instrument partner Raytheon to develop a smaller telescope that requires less power. Chang Zheng 2F/G | Shenzhou 18 China is sending three more taikonauts from the People’s Liberation Army Astronaut Corps to the Tianhe core module of China’s Tiangong space station on Thursday, April 25. Lift-off is expected near the start of a 40-minute launch window at 12:59 UTC from Site 901 (SLS-1) at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. The crew is expected to arrive at the space station around seven hours later. Shenzhou 18 will be the 18th mission of the Shenzhou (“divine craft”) program and the 13th of these to be crewed. As with other missions in this series, the vehicle will be the Chang Zheng 2F which is a human-rated two-stage version of the 2E, which itself was derived from the 2C. The vehicle was rolled to the pad last week on April 17. Shenzhou 18 CZ-2F/G rolled out to the pad – April 2024: (Credit: CCTV) Active since October 2011, the Chang Zheng 2F/G first launched crew for Shenzhou 8 and this vehicle is flying for the first time this year. It has been over 20 years since Shenzhou 5 launched the first crewed mission for the Chinese space program, becoming the third country in the world to achieve independent human spaceflight. The names of the taikonauts are expected to be revealed at a press conference the day before launch, however, it is anticipated that the commander will be Ye Guangfu who has 182 days of experience in space and previously flew on Shenzhou 13. The taikonauts from Shenzhou 17 have been on the station since last October and are expected to return to Earth in the last few days of April, following a handover ceremony. Falcon 9 Block 5 | Starlink Group 6-54 The second Starlink mission of the week is scheduled to launch from SLC-40 at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on Friday, April 26. Lift-off is expected at 6:40 PM EDT (22:40 UTC). Neither the booster nor the droneship have been confirmed yet at the time of publishing, nor the number of Starlink v2 Mini satellites in the payload. Falcon 9 Block 5 | Galileo FOC FM25 & FM 27 In the wake of Starlink Group 6-53 delivering SpaceX’s 300th booster landing earlier this week, this mission will not be attempting a landing and will instead be expending booster B1060 on its 20th and final flight. This booster has supported numerous Starlink missions into Groups 4, 5, and 6 as well as Transporter 6, Galaxy 33 & 34, and the IM-1 mission launching the Nova-C lander, Odysseus. With the company’s continual increase in both launches and recoveries, expending boosters have become rarer. Four months ago, the Falcon Heavy center core B1084 was the last for which there was no recovery attempt on the USSF-52 mission in late December. The last time a single Falcon 9 first stage was expended dates further back to late November 2022 when B1049 was expended on the Eutelsat 10B mission. Booster B1051, which coincidentally launched Galaxy 31 & 32, was also expended just 11 days prior and had continually set milestones as the first booster to be recovered eight, nine, ten, 11, and 12 times. Lift-off for this mission is scheduled for no earlier than Sunday, April 28 from LC-39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The payload is a pair of satellites massing 1,603 kilograms for the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Galileo constellation targeting a medium-Earth orbit at 23,616 km altitude. Initially expected to be launched on a Soyuz, then moved to the delayed Ariane 6, ESA finally contracted SpaceX to lift this long-delayed payload. Rubidium Atomic Clock development at Leonardo’s headquarters in Nerviano, Milan. (Credit: ESA) This global navigation satellite system is named after Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei and went live in 2016 with the intention that European nations do not have to rely on the US GPS or Russian GLONASS platforms. Usage of the lower precision services is open and free to access, while the higher-precision services have 1-meter precision for positioning and are a paid-for service. These satellites begin to build the next generation of the constellation which will replace older equipment, with the completed constellation hosting 10 satellites in each of three planes. Atomic clocks are a critical pillar in satellite navigation and are already utilized on satellites in this constellation. ESA recently signed a €12 million contract with Leonardo S.p.A to design, develop, and qualify a new technology for pulsed optically pumped rubidium atomic clocks. These experimental models will fly alongside the currently operational clocks used for Galileo services while they undergo in-orbit verification. This could be the last or the penultimate launch from LC-39A before it is reconfigured for Falcon Heavy which is expected to lift the GOES-U mission in late June. These preparations can typically leave a gap of around 40 to 50 days between the previous use of the pad and a Falcon Heavy launch. Nailers Start Homestand Successfully With 5-3 Win
Tumblr media
The Wheeling Nailers have four huge home games remaining in the regular season, as they attempt to qualify for the Kelly Cup Playoffs. The first of those was exactly what they were looking for, as they earned a 5-3 victory over the Indy Fuel at WesBanco Arena on Sunday afternoon. Jared Westcott snapped a 2-2 tie by scoring two goals in the third period, and Jaxon Castor made the win stand up with 21 saves. The first period was a tale of two parts, as Indy started strong, but the Nailers finished stronger. The Fuel opened the scoring at the 4:36 mark, when a Wheeling player swatted a loose puck that went directly to Andrew Bellant in the right circle. Bellant immediately ripped a snap shot into the top-right corner of the cage. The Nailers got things turned around with special teams success. Jared Westcott bounced a pass back to Isaac Belliveau, who skated all the way up to the left face-off dot, and rang a wrist shot in off the right post. Wheeling's second power play took just five seconds to convert, as Tanner Laderoute helped Jordan Frasca win a face-off back to Jordan Martel, who drilled a shot into the top-right corner from the high slot. The Nailers held onto their lead until 4:43 remained in the middle frame, when Indy pulled even. Bellant led the way on the left side of a 2-on-1 rush, then threaded a pass over to Bryan Lemos, who wound a shot into the right side of the twine. Wheeling needed a big third period, and that was exactly what it got, thanks to one of the newer members of the squad. At the 6:57 mark, Davis Bunz tossed a shot toward the goal from the right point. The puck kicked to Jared Westcott, who stashed the rebound through Mitchell Weeks to give the Nailers the lead. Westcott struck again at 11:20, as he wrapped the puck around the goal and found daylight just inside of the left post. That tally turned out to be key, as Ross MacDougall brought the Fuel within one during 6-on-5 play with 2:11 left. Wheeling put the finishing touches on its 5-3 triumph with Tanner Laderoute's empty netter. Jaxon Castor earned the win for the Nailers, as he turned away 21 of the 24 shots he faced. Mitchell Weeks took the loss for Indy, as he made 23 saves on 27 shots. The Nailers will continue their final regular season homestand on Wednesday at 7:10 against Fort Wayne. This is the rescheduled game from April 5th, and fans with tickets from the April 5th contest can use them on Wednesday. Wheeling will follow that by hosting Toledo for a Frosty Friday at 7:10 on April 12th. Finally, the regular season concludes with Fan Appreciation Night on Saturday, April 13th at 7:10 against Cincinnati. Tons of prizes will be given out throughout the evening, including one grand prize winner, who will receive a trip to Put-In-Bay. The Wheeling Nailers, considered one of the top things to do in Wheeling, West Virginia, provide affordable family entertainment for fans throughout the Ohio Valley. Read the full article

New York Yankees-Minnesota Twins Series Preview
4.24.23-Jhony Brito RHP (2-1) 5.40 ERA Vs. Sonny Gray RHP (2-0) 0.82 ERA
4.25.23-Nestor Cortes LHP (3-0) 3.09 ERA Vs. Joe Ryan RHP (4-0) 3.24 ERA
4.26.23-Domingo German RHP (1-2) 4.50 ERA Vs. Kenta Maeda RHP (0-3) 4.15 ERA
The Yankees At A Glance- The Yankees are (3-3) since the Twins last saw them and (13-9) overall on the young season. Josh Donaldson is on a rehab assignment and will miss this series. The Yankees signed Kole Calhoun to a minor league deal as well. Giancarlo Stanton suffered a hamstring injury in the Twins series and could miss six weeks. Aaron Boone has rotated different guys in the DH spot since. Anthony Rizzo is off to a good start with a .316 average, five homers, and eleven RBI. Aaron Judge leads the team with six homers and eleven RBI. Aaron Hicks has been in a slump and is hitting 3-for-24 when he does get playing time. The Yankees starting rotation is holding their own even without guys like Carlos Rodon (back) and Luis Severino (lat). They own a 3.53 ERA, which is the sixth-best in baseball. The New York bullpen is the best in MLB with a 2.44 ERA. Clay Holmes has locked down four saves and has a 4.15 ERA. Ron Marinaccio has allowed just one run over 9 2/3 innings, Albert Abreu has given up two runs over ten innings, and Michael King has been good. Former Twin Ian Hamilton owns a 2.13 ERA over 12 2/3 innings so far.
The Twins At A Glance- The Twins had a rough week after losing six of seven games. They won the series finale against the Nationals and will host the Yankees for three games this week. Jorge Polanco has returned in a big way and is hitting 5-for-13 with a homer and two RBI since his return. Donovan Solano has cooled off a bit and doesn’t have a hit in his last ten at-bats. He should be getting better match-ups with Joey Gallo facing right-handers. Alex Kirilloff hit a pair of home runs in his rehab stint in St. Paul. The Twins will need to make a decision about Kirilloff, Trevor Larnach, or Willi Castro. I think Kirilloff or Larnach will remain at St. Paul to get regular at-bats. The Twins starting pitching has a 2.85 ERA, which is second-best in baseball. The bullpen has a 4.23 ERA, which is in the middle of MLB. Jorge Lopez hasn’t allowed a run over 9 2/3 innings. It sounds like Kenta Maeda will start on Wednesday after taking a line drive off his leg in the finale in Boston.
What To Watch For- These two teams split a four-game series in the Bronx a couple of weeks ago. The Yankees won a three-game set last June at Target Field. Jhony Brito gave up seven runs over 2/3 of an inning on April 13th against the Twins. Sonny Gray is (1-2) with a 4.04 ERA in six starts against the Yankees. Nestor Cortes is (2-1) with a 3.90 ERA in six games against the Twins. Joe Ryan is (1-1) with a 4.09 ERA in two starts versus the Yankees. Domingo German is (2-0) with a 4.55 ERA in six games against the Twins. Will there be some backlash or reaction from the Twins this time around? He had a sticky substance on his hand in his last outing against Minnesota. Kenta Maeda gave up five runs over 4 1/3 innings in his only start against New York. The Twins will be done with the Yankees early this year.

The Athenian Calendar 🏛️🌿📅
There was no standard calendar in ancient greece, however the most written about and commonly used one by modern reconstructionists is the Athenian Calendar! This calendar can be easily incorporated into the Gregorian Calendar as well (in my opinion)
I would like to thank @hermesmystic for creating a beautiful lesson on our Hellenismos Online Temple discord server! It helped a lot with this post ♥
It’s a long one so brace yourself!
D A Y S 🌇 The days in the Athenian Calendar begin at sunset. This was important for being able to observe festivals or holy days, if they were to begin at midnight like it does for us, the Greeks would have had a much harder time practicing their religion.
The main Olympians have sacred days of the week which can be used if you would like to make small daily offerings. Weekdays have two gods and weekends have three. A week in review would be: Monday: Artemis and Demeter 🏹🌾 Tuesday: Ares and Athena ⚔️📜 Wednesday: Hermes and Hephaestus 📬🛠️ Thursday: Zeus and Hera 🌩️💍 Friday: Dionysus and Aphrodite 🍇🕊️ Saturday: Hestia, Hades and Persephone 🕯️💀 Sunday: Apollo, Posedion and Amphitrite ☀️🌊
Obviously you don’t need to change your clock and begin living your life around this BUT it is useful to remember.
M O N T H S 🌑 The months are where it gets a little complicated! So we’ll begin with the way the months began and ended and that is with the new moon.
Most Athenian months will fall between two Gregorian months, and sometimes a Gregorian month can have two full moons. A rule of thumb to remember with this is an Athenian month begins on the last (or only) new moon of a Gregorian month and ends on the first (or only) new moon in the next Gregorian month.
The Athenian Calendar also has seasons like the Gregorian calender, and these seasons have three months within them.
S u m m e r: 🌻🏄 Season Theme: Setting foundations and goals Hekatombion (holy month of Zeus 🌩️) - Falls between July/August. Theme: Planning and getting your life sorted Festivals for this month are the: Aphrodisia (6th), Kronia (12th), Synoikia (15-16th) and Panathenaia (28th)
Metageitnion (holy month of Demeter 🌾) - Falls between August/September Theme: Securing foundations from the previous month This month doesn’t have confirmed festivals but these are believed to fall under this month: Metageitnios (Unknown), Herakles Emera (Unknown)
Voedromion (holy month of Hestia 🕯️) - Falls between September/October Theme: Focus on spiritual/religious comfort Festivals for this month are the: Genesia (5th), Kharisteria (6th), Boidromia (7th), Eleusinian Mysteries (15th-21st)
The Eleusinian Mysteries was the most important festival in the Athenian year held in honour of Demeter and Persephone. What happened during this festival isn’t well known so it’s challenging for a modern Hellenic Polytheist but for the ancient Greeks acknowledging the festival was important, acknowledging meant to observe the festival, in the modern sense this can be doing a personal ritual.
A u t u m n / F a l l: 🍂🥧 Season Theme: Tackling hardships, the gods challenge Pyanepsion (holy month of Ares ⚔️) - Falls between October/November Theme: Time for tackling hardships Festivals for this month are the: Proerosia (5th), Puanepsia (6th), Oskhophoria (7th), Theseia (8th), Stenia (9th), Thesmophoria (11-13th), Khalkeia (30th)
Maimakterion (holy month of Artemis 🏹) - Falls between November/December Theme: Time for taking care of yourself through hardship Festivals for this month are the: Maimakeria (unknown), Pompaia (20-end)
Poseideon (holy month of Poseidon 🌊) - Falls between December/January Theme: A time to prove work ethic (or arete) to the gods Festivals for this month are the: Poseidea (8th), Rural Dionysia (last two weeks of the month), Haloa (26th)
W i n t e r: ❄️☃️ Season Theme: A time to recover and revise goals Gamelion (holy month of Hera 💍) - Falls between January/February Theme: Time to reconnect with the gods Festivals for this month are the: Lenaia (12-15), Gamelia (26)
Anthesterion (holy month of Haephestus 🛠️) - Falls between February/March Theme: Time for ingenuity/finding creative solutions Festivals for this month are the: Anthesteria (11-13th), Diasia (23**/28th)*, Lesser Mysteries (unknown)
Elafevolion (holy month of Athena 📜) - Falls between March/April Theme: Reflecting on potential weaknesses and improving Festivals for this month are the: Elapheblia (6th), Asklepieia (8**/9th)*, Greater Dionysia (9-13th), Pandia (14/17th**)*
S p r i n g: 🌷🐣 Season Theme: Strength and Hope! Mounikhion (holy month of Aphrodite 🕊️) - Falls between April/May Theme: Celebrate the progress you’ve made! Festivals for this month are the: Feast of Eros (4th), Mounikhia (6/16th**)*, Olympieia (19th)
Thargelion (holy month of Apollo ☀️) - Falls between May/June Theme: Faith and Divination, working hard Festivals for this month are the: Thargelia (6-7th), Plunteria (Last week with the peak on 25th)
Skiroforion (holy month of Hermes 📬) - Falls between June/July Theme: Making goals for the new year, devotion Festivals for this month are the: Arrhephoria (3rd), Skirophoria (12th), Dipolieia (14th)
[* means it can be observed on either day] [** means that is the prefered date to observe it]
Each month has an 11 day transitionary period from one to the next called the Neos Minas, each day (except one) has an event that help to fully transition spiritually from the theme of one month to the next.
Day 1: Chthonia 1 - the 3rd day before the end of the old month 🧹 Day 2: Chthonia 2 - the 2nd day before the end of the old month 🧹 Day 3: Hekate’s Deipnon - last day of the old month 👻 Day 4: Noumenia - First day of the new month ✨ Day 5: Agathos Daimon - 2nd day of the new month 🎉 Day 6: Tritomenis - 3rd day of the new month / Athena’s birthday 📜 Day 7: Tetras - 4th day of the new month 💖 Day 8: Rest Day - 5th day of the new month 🥱 Day 9: Birth of Artemis - 6th day of the new month 🏹 Day 10: Birth of Apollo - 7th day of the new month ☀️ Day 11: Poseidonas - 8th day of the new month 😤
M o n t h   1 3 ? Occasionally there will be two new moons in a Gregorian month, this was a dillema for the ancient Greeks as well and their solution was to add a 13th month! Mounikhion has to begin and Elafevolion has to end on the same day but there are two new moons... what do we do? Who do we honour?!
DIONYSUS TIME BAYBEEE 🍇🍇🍇🍇
Dionysus would be given a month whenever this issue would arise and it fit his theme perfectly, to come in and cause chaos! This month never had any festivals as it was so sparadic in length or time of year, routine went out the window! In even more Dionysus fashion this month isn’t named after him! It’s called Duo Poseideon and has nothing to do with Poseidon’s month!
Y E A R S 🎉 Years in the Athenian calendar begins in the summer, giving the Greeks plenty of energy to honour and celebrate. The final day of the year was always to honour Athena and Zeus for blessings in the new year
To keep with the theme of four seasons, the years were also grouped into fours called Olympiads 4 years = 1 Olympiad. The way to write the year would go as such: “Year 4 of the 704th Olympiad” Once the year is complete this summer it will become “Year 1 of the 705th Olympiad”
The years also come with their themes, they follow that of the seasons.
I hope this post was helpful! Sorry if I got anything wrong but I hope you can add some of this information to your worship and have fun with it! Don’t worry about trying to follow the calendar perfectly.
Gods bless xx ♥

• 82nd Airborne Division
The 82nd Airborne Division is an airborne infantry division of the United States Army established in 1917, shortly after the American entry into World War I. Specializing in parachute assault operations into denied areas.
The 82nd Division was first constituted as an infantry division on August 5th, 1917 during World War I in the National Army. It was organized and formally activated on August 25th, 1917 at Camp Gordon, Georgia. The division consisted entirely of newly conscripted soldiers. The citizens of Atlanta held a contest to give a nickname to the new division. Major General Eben Swift, the commanding general, chose "All American" to reflect the unique composition of the 82nd, as it had soldiers from all 48 states. It sailed to Europe to join the American Expeditionary Force (AEF), commanded by General John Pershing, on the Western Front. In early April, the division embarked from the ports in Boston, New York and Brooklyn to Liverpool, England, where the division fully assembled by mid-May 1918. During the first world war the Division participated in the St. Mihiel offensive, and Meuse-Argonne offensive. During the later campaign the division suffered 7,000 killed and wounded. A second 82nd soldier, Alvin C. York, received the Medal of Honor for his actions during this campaign. The division suffered 995 killed and 7,082 wounded, for a total of 8,077 casualties. Following the war's end, the division moved to training areas near Prauthoy, where it remained through February 1919. It returned to the United States in April and May, and was demobilized and deactivated at Camp Mills, New York, on May 27th. For the next 20 years the 82nd Division existed as a unit of the Organized Reserve. It was reconstituted in June 1921 establishing headquarters at Columbia, South Carolina, in January 1922.
The 82nd Division was redesignated on February 13th, 1942 during World War II, just two months after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the German declaration of war, as Division Headquarters, 82nd Division. It was recalled to active service on March 25th, 1942, and reorganized at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana, under the command of Major General Omar Bradley. During this training period, the division brought together three officers who would ultimately steer the U.S. Army during the following two decades: Matthew Ridgway, James M. Gavin, and Maxwell D. Taylor. On August 15th, 1942, the 82nd Infantry Division, now commanded by Major General Ridgway, became the first airborne division in the history of the U.S. Army, and was redesignated as the 82nd Airborne Division. The division initially consisted of the 325th, 326th and 327th Infantry Regiments, and supporting units. The 327th was soon transferred to help form the 101st Airborne Division and was replaced by the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, leaving the division with two regiments of glider infantry and one of parachute infantry.
In February 1943 the division received another change when the 326th was transferred to the 13th Airborne Division, being replaced by the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, under James M. Gavin, then a colonel, who was later destined to command the division. In April 1943, after several months of tough training, its troopers deployed to the Mediterranean Theater of Operations, under the command of Major General Ridgway to take part in the campaign to invade Sicily. The division's first two combat operations were parachute assaults into Sicily on July 9th and Salerno on September 13th, 1943. The initial assault on Sicily, by the 505th Parachute Regimental Combat Team, under Colonel Gavin, was the first regimental-sized combat parachute assault conducted by the United States Army. Glider troopers of the 319th and 320th Glider Field Artillery Battalions and the 325th Glider Infantry Regiment (and the 3rd Battalion of the 504th PIR) instead arrived in Italy by landing craft at Maiori (319th) and Salerno (320th, 325th).
In January 1944, the 504th, commanded by Colonel Reuben Tucker, which was temporarily detached to fight at Anzio, adopted the nickname "Devils in Baggy Pants", taken from an entry in a German officer's diary. The 504th was replaced in the division by the inexperienced 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, under the command of Colonel George V. Millet, Jr.. While the 504th was detached, the remainder of the 82nd Airborne Division moved to the United Kingdom in November 1943 to prepare for the liberation of Europe. With two combat drops under its belt, the 82nd Airborne Division was now ready for the most ambitious airborne operation of the war so far, as part of Operation Neptune, the Allied invasion of Normandy. The division conducted Mission Boston, part of the airborne assault phase of the Operation Overlord plan. In preparation for the operation, the division was significantly reorganized. To ease the integration of replacement troops, rest, and refitting following the fighting in Italy, the 504th PIR did not rejoin the division for the invasion. Two new parachute infantry regiments (PIRs), the 507th and the 508th, provided it, along with the veteran 505th, a three-parachute infantry regiment punch. The 325th was also reinforced by the addition of the 3rd Battalion of the 401st GIR, bringing it up to a strength of three battalions. On the 5th and 6th of June these paratroopers, parachute artillery elements, and the 319th and 320th, boarded hundreds of transport planes and gliders to begin history's largest airborne assault at the time (only Operation Market Garden later that year would be larger). During the June 6th assault, a 508th platoon leader, First Lieutenant Robert P. Mathias, would be the first U.S. Army officer killed by German fire on D-Day. On June 7th, after this first wave of attack, the 325th GIR would arrive by glider to provide a division reserve. In Normandy, the 82nd gained its first Medal of Honor of the war, belonging to Private First Class Charles N. DeGlopper of the 325th GIR. By the time the division was relieved, in early July, the 82nd had seen 33 days of severe combat and casualties had been heavy. Losses included 5,245 troopers killed, wounded, or missing, for a total of 46% casualties.
Following Normandy, the 82nd Airborne Division returned to England to rest and refit for future airborne operations. The 82nd became part of the newly organized XVIII Airborne Corps, which consisted of the 17th, 82nd, and 101st Airborne Divisions. Ridgway was given command of the corps but was not promoted to lieutenant general until 1945. His recommendation for succession as division commander was Brigadier General James M. Gavin, previously the 82nd's ADC. Ridgway's recommendation met with approval, and upon promotion Gavin became the youngest general since the Civil War to command a U.S. Army division. On August 2nd, 1944 the division became part of the First Allied Airborne Army. In September, the 82nd began planning for Operation Market Garden in the Netherlands. The operation called for three-plus airborne divisions to seize and hold key bridges and roads deep behind German lines. The 504th PIR, now back at full strength, was reassigned to the 82nd, while the 507th was assigned to the 17th Airborne Division, at the time training in England. On September 17th, the "All American" Division conducted its fourth (and final) combat jump of World War II. Fighting off German counterattacks, the division captured its objectives between Grave, and Nijmegen. The division failed to capture Nijmegen Bridge when the opportunity presented itself early in the battle. When the British XXX Corps arrived in Nijmegen, six hours ahead of schedule, they found themselves having to fight to take a bridge that should have already been in allied hands. In the afternoon of Wednesday September 20th, 1944, the 82nd Airborne Division conducted a successfully opposed river assault on the river crossing of the Waal river. The Market Garden salient was held in a defensive operation for several weeks until the 82nd was relieved by Canadian troops, and sent into reserve in France.
On December 16th, 1944, the Germans launched a surprise offensive through the Ardennes Forest, which became known as the Battle of the Bulge. In SHAEF reserve, the 82nd was committed on the northern face of the bulge near Elsenborn Ridge. On December 20th, 1944, the 82nd Airborne Division was assigned to take Cheneux where they would force the Waffen SS Division Leibstandarte's Kampfgruppe Peiper into a fighting retreat. On December 22nd,1944, the 82nd Airborne faced counterattacks from three powerful Waffen SS divisions which included the 1st SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler, 2nd SS Panzer Division Das Reich, and the 9th SS Panzer Division Hohenstaufen. The Waffen SS efforts to relieve Kampfgruppe Peiper failed due to the stubborn defense of the 82nd Airborne. On December 23rd, the German divisions attacked from the south and overran the 325th GIR holding the Baraque- Fraiture crossroads on the 82nd's southern flank, endangering the entire 82nd Airborne division. The 2nd SS Panzer's objective was to outflank the 82nd Airborne. It was not an attack designed to reach Peiper, but it was his last chance, nonetheless. If it did outflank the 82nd, it could have opened a corridor and reached the stranded yet still powerful Kampfgruppe. But the attack came too late. On December 24th, 1944, the 82nd Airborne Division with an official strength of 8,520 men was facing off against a vastly superior combined force of 43,000 men and over 1,200 armored fighting and artillery vehicles and pieces. Due to these circumstances, the 82nd Airborne Division was forced to withdrawal for the first time in its combat history. The Germans pursued their retreat with the 2nd and 9th SS Panzer Divisions. On January 3rd, 1945, the 82nd Airborne Division conducted a counterattack. On the first day's fighting the Division overran the 62nd Volksgrenadiers and the 9th SS Panzer's positions capturing 2,400 prisoners. The 82nd Airborne suffered high casualties in the process. The attached 551st Parachute Infantry Battalion was all but destroyed during these attacks. Of the 826 men who went into the Ardennes, only 110 came out. Having lost its charismatic leader Lt. Colonel Joerg, and almost all its men either wounded, killed, or frostbitten, the 551 was never reconstituted. The few soldiers who remained were later absorbed into units of the 82nd Airborne. For the 82nd Airborne Division the first part of the Battle of the Bulge had ended.
After helping to secure the Ruhr, the 82nd Airborne Division ended the war at Ludwigslust past the Elbe River, accepting the surrender of over 150,000 men of Lieutenant General Kurt von Tippelskirch's 21st Army. Following Germany's surrender, the 82nd Airborne Division entered Berlin for occupation duty, replacing the 2nd Armored Division in August 1945. In Berlin General George S. Patton was so impressed with the 82nd's honor guard he said, "In all my years in the Army and all the honor guards I have ever seen, the 82nd's honor guard is undoubtedly the best." Hence the "All-American" became also known as "America's Guard of Honor". During the war the 82nd Division suffered 9,073 total casualties with 1,619 being killed in action and 6,560 wounded.
The division returned to the United States on January 3rd, 1946 on the RMS Queen Mary. In New York City it led a big Victory Parade, January 12th, 1946. In 1957, the division implemented the pentomic organization (officially Reorganization of the Airborne Division (ROTAD)) in order to better prepare for tactical nuclear war in Europe. In April 1965, the "All-Americans" entered the civil war in the Dominican Republic. Spearheaded by the 3rd Brigade, the 82nd deployed in Operation Power Pack. The 82nd later participated in the Vietnam War, and was stationed to deal with riots in Detroit in the 1967 Detroit Riot. After 11 September attacks on the United States in 2001, the 82nd's 49th Public Affairs Detachment deployed to Afghanistan in October 2001 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom along with several individual 82nd soldiers who deployed to the Central Command area of responsibility to support combat operations. More recently, the 82nd Airborne has been conducting operations in Iraq, advising and assisting Iraqi Security Forces.

Note: This episode partly inspired the “I Love Lucy” episode “The Inferiority Complex” (ILL S2;E18) aired on February 2, 1953, which also starred Gerard Mohr as a psychiatrist.  In this case, however, the complex is replaced by fear of aging. There is another “My Favorite Husband” episode titled “Liz’s Inferiority Complex” (aka “Liz Develops an Inferiority Complex”) broadcast on February 3, 1951 which uses the notion of inferiority rather than aging. In that episode, the psychiatrist is played by Alan Reed.
Tumblr media
“My Favorite Husband” was based on the novels Mr. and Mrs. Cugat, the Record of a Happy Marriage (1940) and Outside Eden (1945) by Isabel Scott Rorick, which had previously been adapted into the film Are Husbands Necessary? (1942). “My Favorite Husband” was first broadcast as a one-time special on July 5, 1948. Lucille Ball and Lee Bowman played the characters of Liz and George Cugat, and a positive response to this broadcast convinced CBS to launch “My Favorite Husband” as a series. Bowman was not available Richard Denning was cast as George. On January 7, 1949, confusion with bandleader Xavier Cugat prompted a name change to Cooper. On this same episode Jell-O became its sponsor. A total of 124 episodes of the program aired from July 23, 1948 through March 31, 1951. After about ten episodes had been written, writers Fox and Davenport departed and three new writers took over – Bob Carroll, Jr., Madelyn Pugh, and head writer/producer Jess Oppenheimer. In March 1949 Gale Gordon took over the existing role of George’s boss, Rudolph Atterbury, and Bea Benaderet was added as his wife, Iris. CBS brought “My Favorite Husband” to television in 1953, starring Joan Caulfield and Barry Nelson as Liz and George Cooper. The television version ran two-and-a-half seasons, from September 1953 through December 1955, running concurrently with “I Love Lucy.” It was produced live at CBS Television City for most of its run, until switching to film for a truncated third season filmed (ironically) at Desilu and recasting Liz Cooper with Vanessa Brown.
MAIN CAST
Tumblr media
Lucille Ball (Liz Cooper) was born on August 6, 1911 in Jamestown, New York. She began her screen career in 1933 and was known in Hollywood as ‘Queen of the B’s’ due to her many appearances in ‘B’ movies. With Richard Denning, she starred in a radio program titled “My Favorite Husband” which eventually led to the creation of “I Love Lucy,” a television situation comedy in which she co-starred with her real-life husband, Latin bandleader Desi Arnaz. The program was phenomenally successful, allowing the couple to purchase what was once RKO Studios, re-naming it Desilu. When the show ended in 1960 (in an hour-long format known as “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour”) so did Lucy and Desi’s marriage. In 1962, hoping to keep Desilu financially solvent, Lucy returned to the sitcom format with “The Lucy Show,” which lasted six seasons. She followed that with a similar sitcom “Here’s Lucy” co-starring with her real-life children, Lucie and Desi Jr., as well as Gale Gordon, who had joined the cast of “The Lucy Show” during season two. Before her death in 1989, Lucy made one more attempt at a sitcom with “Life With Lucy,” also with Gordon.
Richard Denning (George Cooper) was born Louis Albert Heindrich Denninger Jr., in Poughkeepsie, New York. When he was 18 months old, his family moved to Los Angeles. Plans called for him to take over his father’s garment manufacturing business, but he developed an interest in acting. Denning enlisted in the US Navy during World War II. He is best known for his  roles in various science fiction and horror films of the 1950s. Although he teamed with Lucille Ball on radio in “My Favorite Husband,” the two never acted together on screen. While “I Love Lucy” was on the air, he was seen on another CBS TV series, “Mr. & Mrs. North.” From 1968 to 1980 he played the Governor on “Hawaii 5-0″, his final role. He died in 1998 at age 84.
Gale Gordon (Rudolph Atterbury) does not appear in this episode.
Ruth Perrott (Katie, the Maid) was also later seen on “I Love Lucy.” She first played Mrs. Pomerantz (above right), a member of the surprise investigating committee for the Society Matrons League in “Pioneer Women” (ILL S1;E25), as one of the member of the Wednesday Afternoon Fine Arts League in “Lucy and Ethel Buy the Same Dress” (ILL S3;E3), and also played a nurse when “Lucy Goes to the Hospital” (ILL S2;E16). She died in 1996 at the age of 96.
Bob LeMond (Announcer) also served as the announcer for the pilot episode of “I Love Lucy”. When the long-lost pilot was finally discovered in 1990, a few moments of the opening narration were damaged and lost, so LeMond – fifty years later – recreated the narration for the CBS special and subsequent DVD release.
GUEST CAST
Tumblr media
Gerald Mohr Psychiatrist aka Charley ‘Chuck’ Stewart) also played psychiatrist Henry Molin, who masquerades as Ricky’s old friend Chuck Stewart in “The Inferiority Complex” (ILL S2;E18 ~ February 2, 1953), his only appearance on “I Love Lucy”. In return, Lucy and Desi appeared on his show “Sunday Showcase” that same year. He also made an appearance on “The Lucy Show” in “Lucy and Phil Harris” (TLS S6;E20 ~ February 5, 1968).
One of the few times an actor recreates his role in a television version of a radio script using the same name.
Tumblr media
Bea Benadaret (Mrs. Annie Green) was considered the front-runner to be cast as Ethel Mertz but when “I Love Lucy” was ready to start production she was already playing a similar role on TV’s “The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show” so Vivian Vance was cast instead. On “I Love Lucy” she was cast as Lucy Ricardo’s spinster neighbor, Miss Lewis, in “Lucy Plays Cupid” (ILL S1;E15) in early 1952. Later, she was a success in her own show, “Petticoat Junction” as Shady Rest Hotel proprietress Kate Bradley. She starred in the series until her death in 1968.
This turn as an old lady may have given Lucille Ball the idea to cast her as elderly Miss Lewis on “I Love Lucy”.
EPISODE
ANNOUNCER: “As we look in on the Coopers, Liz is over by the bookcase, with books spread out all around her.”
Liz tells George her club is having an old book sale. George warns her not to sell any of his book, especially ones he hasn’t finished yet.  She finds one with a bookmark and he tells her to put it back on the shelf: some books are too heavy to finish in one sitting.
GEORGE: “What’s the name of it?” LIZ: “’The Bobbsey Twins at the Seashore’”
Tumblr media
“The Bobbsey Twins at the Seashore” was originally published in 1907, the third in a series of children’s books. There were 72 books in all, the first appearing in 1904 and the last in 1979. In 1953’s “The Camping Trip” (ILL S2;E29) Ethel referred to Lucy and Ricky as the Bobbsey Twins. In “No More Double Dates” (TLS S1;E21) they are mentioned again. They were authored by Laura Lee Hope, which was a pseudonym for a series of writers employed by the publisher.
Liz finds a book about how to play mahjong that George forgot to return to the library.
GEORGE: “When was it due?” LIZ: “May 13th. 1936!”
George wants to donate it to the sale, but Liz refuses to handle ‘hot’ merchandise. George sarcastically calls her Pear-Shape.
Tumblr media
George is not referring to Liz’s figure, but to the character in the Dick Tracy comic strip named Pear-Shape Tone, who was part of the storyline from April to July 1949. He was a racketeer who would steal jewelry from his wealthier clients, then fence it to make a profit. One of his famous heists was referred to on “My Favorite Husband”  in “Anniversary Presents” aired on May 13, 1949.
LIZ: “George, look! On the second shelf!  ‘Little Men’ is leaning against ‘Little Women’!  Oh, look, George!  They’ve had a little pamphlet!”
Tumblr media
“Little Women” (1868) and its sequel “Little Men” (1871) are books by Louisa May Alcott.  A sequel was titled “Good Wives” (1869) but in America was combined with “Little Women” for publication. A third book (not a pamphlet) arrived in 1886 titled “Jo’s Boys.”
Liz finds the Arbutus, George’s old high school year book from 1929. George was a senior, Liz was a freshman. He reads some of the inscriptions from his friends.  The book has a photo of Liz as a Freshman Princess - dimples in her knees.
LIZ: “I used to spend every evening kneeling on two collar buttons!”
Liz suddenly feels very old.  She has turned from ‘a flower in the bloom of youth’ to ‘an old stink weed’.  She starts to cry and decides to go to bed because old people need their rest.
In the morning Katie the Maid finds Liz gazing at herself in the mirror.
LIZ: “I haven’t felt so old since the day Shirley Temple got married.”
Tumblr media
Former child star Shirley Temple married actor (and then Army Air Force Sergeant) John Agar on September 19, 1945, when she was just 17 years-old.  At one time, Temple was one of Hollywood’s biggest box office stars.  The marriage became troubled, and Temple divorced Agar on December 5, 1949. On December 16, 1950, Temple re-married to Charles Alden Black, a Navy intelligence officer and assistant to the President of the Hawaiian Pineapple Company.
George is concerned about Liz, so he visits a psychiatrist (Gerard Mohr). He tells her to flatter her and make her feel young again.
PSYCHIATRIST: “A few days of attention and you won’t be able to leave her alone without a sitter!”
George comes home and finds Liz in a rocking chair.  He has brought her roses and candy.  She begins to cry and is immediately suspicious of his motivations for bringing her gifts.  She decides to go to her room - alone.  George immediately starts to dial Dr. Stewart, humming while he does:
GEORGE: “Little Old Lady young and fair, you’re in everyone’s hair...”
Tumblr media
The song “Little Old Lady” was a 1937 hit written by Hoagy Carmichael and Stanley Adams.  It was also heard on stage and screen.
Dr. Stewart tells George that it is natural for a wife not to believe her husband.  He suggests an outsider flattering her would be more convincing and he has just the person - himself!  George reluctantly agrees and decides to say that Dr. Stewart is an old college friend.  He will drop by at eight o’clock that evening.
When the doorbell rings, George announces him as Charley Stewart, who immediately takes Liz for George’s daughter.  After some flattery, they decide to listen to the radio.  Liz says her favorite she is “Life Begins at 80″.
Tumblr media
“Life Begins at 80″ was a panel quiz show that aired on radio from 1948 to 1949, before making the shift to television in 1950. In it, octogenarians answered questions sent in by listeners. Jack Barry hosted.
Chuck insists that they play music and invites Liz to dance the Samba. After three hours, Chuck compliments her dancing, but George is getting impatient.
LIZ: “Treatment, George. Treatment!”  GEORGE: “It looks more like a treat than a treatment.”
Chuck starts whispering amorous compliments into Liz’s ear just out of ear shot of George.  He demands to know what’s going on.
Tumblr media
LIZ: “Treatment, George!  Treatment!”  GEORGE: “What do you know about treatment?” LIZ: “Nothing. But whenever he says it you leave us alone.”
George finally can’t take anymore and tells Liz the truth about Chuck being a psychiatrist, telling him to leave at once.  After Chuck leaves, George finds Liz back in her rocking chair lamenting her old age.
Next day the phone rings and Katie answers it.  It is George, checking up on Liz, who Katie reports is making out her will.
KATIE: “She’s leaving you to me!”
George has a plan. He’s going to bring home a real old lady - seventy year-old Mrs. Green - to show Liz how young she really is.  Katie finds Liz happily singing.
KATIE: “What’s happened to ya? Last night you were Grandma Moses and now you’re Junior Miss!”
Tumblr media
Grandma Moses (1860-1961) was an American folk artist who began painting at the age of 78 and is often cited as an example of a person who successfully began a career at an advanced age. In “Nursery School” (ILL S5;E9) Lucy Ricardo is so proud of Little Ricky’s first drawing, she dubs him the next “Grandpa Moses.” The Ricardos had two framed prints by Grandma Moses next to their front door: “So Long” and “The Old Snow Roller.”
Tumblr media
Junior Miss is a collection of semi-autobiographical stories by Sally Benson first published in The New Yorker. Between 1929 and the end of 1941, the prolific Benson published 99 stories. She had a bestseller when Doubleday published her Junior Miss collection in 1941. The stories inspired a Broadway play (1941), film (1945), radio series starring the aforementioned Shirley Temple (1942), and television show (1957).
Liz tells Katie that she got a call from the Psychiatrist asking her out on a date.  Katie says that since she’s now in a more upbeat mood, she’d better call George and tell him not to go through with his plan.  But Liz has other ideas.  Since he tricked her by brining home a psychiatrist, Liz will trick him by pretending to be an old lady when she brings Mrs. Green home!
Liz dons a shawl, eyeglasses, a gray wig, and talks with a creaky voice. Mrs. Annie Green (Bea Benadaret) and ‘Lizzie’ sit down for a chat.  Whatever question Mrs. Green asks, Liz answers “Penicillin”!  Lizzie tells Annie that she can’t dance because she’s got the gout.
Tumblr media
LIZZIE: “I can’t dance any unless I get oiled.  In my joints, I mean.” ANNIE: “I’ve been oiled in few joints myself!”   LIZZIE: “Oh, Annie!  You’re a caution! Just cuz ya got snow on the roof don’t mean there’s no fire in the furnace.”
Annie tells Lizzie about a hot Bingo game in back of the Blue Bird Tea Shop (which just a front).
ANNIE: “Get your green eye shade and let’s go!”  LIZZIE: “I’ll get my wheelchair! We can ride down.” ANNIE: “What model you got?”  LIZZIE: “A real hopped-up job; I hooked it to a Mixmaster. I had some speed trials yesterday.” ANNIE: “What did ya make?” LIZZIE: “Fourteen miles an hour and a bunt cake!”
Tumblr media
In 1930, the Sunbeam Company introduced the Mixmaster mixer, the first mechanical mixer with two detachable beaters whose blades interlocked. Several attachments were available for the Mixmaster, including a juice extractor, drink mixer, meat grinder–food chopper, and slicer–shredder. The Mixmaster became the company's flagship product for the next forty years.
George has had enough and tells Liz to stop, so she gives up the old lady act.  She tells him she’s feeling better, but George lets it slip that he told Chuck to call and ask her out on a date.  She’s distraught again and Annie and Lizzie toddle off to Bingo!

WWE - Best and Worst Booking from Wrestlemania 36 to 37
Wrestlemania 37 is in the books and so a new saga of WWE booking begins anew.
But the year has had its ups and downs, in the outside world and the booking, so - for doing something new - I'm gonna run down some of the best and worst booking decisions made by WWE from the Raw after Wrestlemania 36 to Wrestlemania 37 Night 2.
I will note, these are my opinions - some of which acts upon hindsight rather than 'in the moment' - and if you're gonna call me an anti-WWE mark rest assured I plan to do this for AEW too after Double or Nothing in May
Also, there is the off chance of spoilers...somehow? But it's worth covering that base
April 2020 Best WORST - Samoa Joe on Commentary On April 27th, Samoa Joe was called upon to replace Jerry Lawler (we'll get to that) on Commentary. Joe provided a great presence to commentary and it kept him on TV, we do still await his return but seeing more of Joe is a huge plus. EDIT: This was best until just now I learn that Samoa Joe has been released, the fuck WWE?
Worst - 'Ramen Noodle Moonsault' Part of what caused Lawler's replacement was the scrutiny caused by an April 13th call by Lawler during a match between Austin Theory and Akira Tozawa. He called a Step Senton a 'Ramen Noodle Moonsault', Lawler is rarely funny nowadays with his dated comedy but this was the straw that broke the camel's back.
Best - Giving Sonya and Mandy the Floor It could've been a huge down not to see Sonya vs Mandy at Wrestlemania after she was outed in manipulating Mandy away from Otis, but their feud managed to carry on strong all the way to Summerslam thanks to Sonya stepping up her game to come off as a fantastically asshole heel - which in turn made Mandy a sympathetic character. Their post-mania build allowed for an anticipated match, it was only unfortunate that an attempted irl kidnapping in August would sour the momentum and cause Sonya to take some justified time off.
Worst - Charlotte Flair on all 3 Shows Charlotte's NXT Title win did not go down as well as WWE had hoped, somehow giving the woman that had won next to everything another title reign at the expense of Rhea Ripley's Wrestlemania debut backfired on them. And unfortunately, exposing Charlotte on all 3 shows did not help matters at all, furthering the criticisms WWE have often faced when they overbook Charlotte on the upper card.
Worst - COVID-19 and Black Wednesday While not necessarily a booking thing, it was very bad of WWE to do what they did at the time. Another outbreak raised some backstage concerns over the conduct WWE, who had tried to not acknowledge the pandemic in the same vein then-president and somehow HOFer Donald Trump had done, were acting towards the pandemic. The worst of it all though was Black Wednesday, a mass exodus of talent in the height of the pandemic was never gonna be great PR, but a lot of the talent let go were very popular - Drake Maverick's video also cast a negative light on WWE even when they rehired him and used it as a storyline. While some found greener pastures to flourish, not everyone landed well on their feet, equally baffling was that WWE would then boast a quarterly profit before rehiring some of the staff they let go.
May 2020 Best - Giving the title to Asuka While we were all surprised to see Becky Lynch survive Shayna Baszler at Wrestlemania, nobody could dispute the post MITB segment on Raw when Asuka was rightfully awarded the title for winning the MITB. Being a shining light in the Empty Arena Era, Asuka was certainly a fan favourite choice to succeed Becky as she embarked on her journey towards Motherhood. A truly wonderful segment which showed that segments can pay off just as much as wrestling.
Worst - Not Pushing Otis While Asuka's MITB victory was done right, the same could not be said for the Men's Winner. Otis had the fan's backing and while his victory was surprising especially given the competition it had potential. Which WWE then squandered and buried as hard as they could. Otis never got to develop beyond a joke act, his love interest and partner taken from him, before he would months later lose it to the Miz.
Best - MVP joins up with Lashley Lashley was in a rough spot here. His main story was cucking Rusev by having an affair with Lana, and then marrying her. The pair was not built to last and mercifully we upgraded to the MVP/Lashley partnership. Together both men began their career resurgence as they now stand at the top of the pile, this was the beginning of the Hurt Business.
Worst - The Brand-To-Brand Invitational Much like how the Wild Card Rule was stupid, the Brand-To-Brand Invitational was also stupid. Often used as a tool for Survivor Series or to bring Charlotte or Corbin over with their bad heat, overall it served nothing for the fans or the booking, regardless of whatever they named it.
Best - The Fight Pit Timothy Thatcher can still do a lot more in NXT, but he still leaves a great legacy in introducing the Fight Pit. When there's not enough people for War Games but a Steel Cage won't do, the Fight Pit sold stiff aggression with its debut affair between Thatcher and Riddle, a brutal match only since done once more. It may have been done twice, but if someone calls for a Fight Pit you know shit's gonna go down.
Worst - Stripping Sami Zayn of the IC title, for staying safe Sami Zayn had finally won a championship on the Main Roster in March, then COVID happened. While WWE did make an outward statement that anyone who didn't wish to risk their health could exclude themselves, when Sami did it he lost the championship. This was rather hypocritical given that Jordan Devlin was still the Cruiserweight Champion and an Interim Champion was being crowned, rather than an official one like Smackdown did. While Sami would return to reclaim his title, his time away is still not acknowledged.
June 2020 Best - NXT start using old show names Partially due to AEW using Bash at the Beach, WWE decided to hold onto some of theirs and WCW's old PPV names. While this was slightly petty, the way they used them proved fortuitous in exuding nostalgia in a big way. To start, we had In Your House but this would also lead to the resurfacing of Halloween Havoc and Vengeance.
Worst - Not Firing Jaxson Ryker During this time the BLM protests were in full swing, so Jaxson Ryker decided this'd be the right time to praise Donald Trump on twitter. The backlash was high and his stablemates suffered for it as well, depushing and taking all the Forgotton Sons off TV. Jaxson Ryker still somehow has a job and tv time in WWE, and that continues to baffle.
Best - Maverick vs Fantasma in the Finals While exposing Maverick's firing was in poor taste, the story of the former GM chasing the title was one we can get behind. Paired with El Hijo del Fantasma finally getting the platform to debut after being hired in August 2019. The finals match would also beget to a strong title reign by Fantasma where he showed his charisma as a heel and birthing his faction Legando del Fantasma, as for Drake it led to a mismatch team with Killian Dain, it could be better but it could be worse.
Worst - Jeff Hardy vs Sheamus' narrative You'd think putting Jeff and Sheamus together would be fine, and the wrestling was indeed good. The storyline however was wrong, very wrong. Rehashing the Jericho/Punk angle, WWE decided a urine test angle would make for good TV - which was a particular low for both men.
Best - Io Shirai at the Top (which she could jump off of) When Charlotte won the NXT Championship from Rhea I vocally worried that this'd mean curtains for Io Shirai, the Stardom Ace had found her footing as the 'Mad Queen' heel character and won a ladder match to contend for the title, but she was going up against Charlotte Flair - WWE's 'Queen' who had already cut the legs from Asuka, Rhea and Bianca Belair - so the worry was high. Fortunately In Your House decided to give Io the much-deserved title win, granted she should've beaten Charlotte and Rhea was there to take the pin but this would begin Io's long reign as the female Ace of NXT, as well as jumping off of anything and everything on each TakeOver.
Worst - Street Profits vs Viking Raiders doesn't happen for Backlash During their time as Raw Tag Champs, the Street Profits engaged in an 'Anything you can do, I can do better' series with the Viking Raiders. The segments itself were mostly silly but some parts were admittedly humorous like the leg of meat popping up everywhere. But the payoff match on Backlash never came to be, instead we continued a cinematic brawl which would've been fine...but it had no conclusion. It ended in a bin, much like the feud was trashed, with the malice of the Viking Raiders mostly thrown away.
Worst - Nia vs Asuka ends in a Double Count Out Backlash 2020 already had the questionable booking of Profits vs Vikings, Braun vs Miz and Morrison and promoting Edge vs Orton as the 'Greatest Wrestling Match Ever'. But another that could not be let go was the women's title match. This was Asuka's first major defense, the storyline should have been her proving that she deserves the title and the best we got was Nia Jax. Like Profits/Vikings it could've been salvagable had there been a legitimate finish, but the match ended in a double count out, only to follow up with a Raw rematch - sadly this would not be the end of Asuka being poorly booked as champion.
Worst - Kairi's Injury Speaking of Nia, in a May taping that released in June Nia faced Kairi Sane in the build to her feud with Asuka. But Kairi came out of the match with a nasty head cut after being thrown into the steps. Unfortunately, this was not the first time Kairi had been injured by Nia so it was not a good look on Nia to repeat herself.
Worst - *Unmasks* 'Old Man Santos Escobar!?' When El Hijo del Fantasma revealed himself as the leader of the masked men, it began the stable Legando del Fantasma. But of course, 'El Hijo del Fantasma' isn't really a heel name that rolls off the tongue, the name change was justified but the choice was not. Using the surname of a drug lord exposed WWE's continued hypocrisy of things - who were adamant in removing Apollo Crews' surname when a killer was also named 'Crews', among their usual obsession with cutting names - but it was worsened by the choice of Santos, which means Saint. It also made it odd that his faction carried his old name but not him, what was wrong with Santos del Fantasma?
July 2020 Best - A New US Championship Design Aside from the 24/7 title, the US Championship design was one of WWE's weakest, fans had been calling for a change for quite some time. During Apollo's feud with the Hurt Business though we got a new US title unveiled by MVP; a slightly better design, it was definitely a good move in terms of booking and merchandising.
Worst - Asuka loses to Shenanigans, and then to Count Out Alas, Asuka's reign hit a bump in the road when the Bayley/Sasha connection set their sights on claiming all the gold. While this would do well for Bayley and Sasha's story, it was once again a story that came in Asuka's expense. She lost stupidly in Extreme Rules and when that was revoked she lost by count-out in a match where nothing was meant to influence the wrestlers on the outside. This was an added blow because Asuka was counted out to save Kairi from being attacked backstage - which effectively wrote her out of WWE, which meant that the attempted save was worthless.
Best - Big E goes his own way, but doesn't split from the New Day Before the WWE Draft split Xavier and Kofi from Big E brand-wise, injuries to Xavier and Kofi left Big E unable to compete for tag titles. However, fans had been hoping for another singles run from Big E and this was the platform for it. What made it good though was that Big E didn't leave the New Day to pursue a singles career, keeping the beloved faction still alive.
Worst - Bye, Kairi Kairi Sane carried a similar star aura that Io and Asuka before her did as the Mae Young Classic winner, former NXT Women's champion and basically being an all-round adorable human. When it was learned that she would be taking an ambassador role in Japan - where she would get married and spend time with her husband also - fans were upset to see her go. But WWE never gave her a proper sendoff, the last we see of Kairi is just her KO'd backstage with Asuka having given up her title to fail in saving her, and that left a bad taste.
Best - Keith Lee: Double Champion Keith Lee had captured NXT hearts with his physicality, athleticism and theme song, he was NA Champion and WWE had decided that double champions are all the rage now, so they pit Lee and Adam Cole against one another. It was a brief run, but the moment Lee held two belts became a big moment signifying a new chapter for NXT.
Worst - 'The Horror Show' Extreme Rules was kind of a low point for WWE. Rather than just continue with the no DQ gimmick they threw all their chips into the Braun vs Bray swamp fight, which tanked horribly. Also Rey vs Seth suffered from it with the daft Eye for an Eye stipulation - which AEW had previously done effectively - it was a great wrestling match marred by its goofy stipulation and thus its ending, all of which was made simply because Rey hadn't extended his contract at this time. Needless to say, overbooking and stupidity left 'The Horror Show' Extreme Rules a dud.
August 2020 Best - Introducing the Thunderdome There was some hesitations about the introduction of the Thunderdome, the fact that it's just screens some of it reused to pair with piped cheers and boos doesn't sound too good on paper. And granted, it has its flaws still, but at the same time the Thunderdome has been more positive on WWE's atmosphere than a purely empty arena has. The NXT cages are probably better paired with AEW's using their backstage staff as the crowd but you get what you give sometimes.
Worst - Retribution Retribution is a lost cause, even to this day. It tried the Nexus-esque debut with big names but shitty masks, as well as their purpose contradicting their actions. It all began here, and shouldn't have happened in the first place, Mercedes learned that one quickly. At least T-Bar has Twitter game.
Worst - Changing Keith Lee's attire, theme, and making him a side character to Drew vs Orton Within a month of winning both belts, Lee would be moved up to Raw where immediately he was pitted against Randy Orton - who was feuding against Drew McIntyre. With a new outfit and new music, Lee was a stepping stone to simply further Orton's feud with Drew rather than influence it, in a single moment WWE had made fans lose confidence that they could book Lee as well as he was in NXT, a worry that continues to this day even with another theme change.
Best - Damian Priest gets a shot A star who needed a chance to shine, Lee's vacating of the NA title left a slot open for someone to get a solid push and the winner was Damian Priest. Having proven himself there and in a prior feud with Finn Balor, Priest was a worthy candidate to hold the title and he still is able to hold that momentum in his main roster pursuits.
Worst - Raw Underground Doing something different is nothing to be afraid of, but sometimes you have to read the room. And Shane McMahon introducing a boiler room fight club was not it. Granted, Raw Underground didn't get the fairest crack of the whip, but it had also not distinguished itself on the card nor did it have as many decent stars to carry it. The repackaging of Babatunde to 'Dabba Kato' didn't sell any seriousness to it either.
Best - Pat McAfee Shines The Adam Cole/Pat McAfee feud did somewhat stumble at the start with WWE's insistence that this was a shoot, but the end result paid dividends. Pat McAfee raised a very low bar on celebrity contributions in wrestling matches, showing what celebrities who are actual fans could do to pull off an athletic and entertaining affair.
Worst - Mauro and Renee leave Mauro Ranallo may've been divisive for some fans in his enthusiastic commentary, but I loved the guy. He actually sold the energy of the matches and he knew the moves. Renee Young was also someone who proved to be a fantastic sports journalist, her commentary times on Raw marred by micromanaging she was a great host for Talking Smack and her podcast showed how relatable and fun Mrs. Moxley truly is. The departure of both had left a void WWE have struggled to fill again.
Best - Dominik Mysterio steps up In Summerslam 2005, the PPV was main evented by Shawn Michaels overselling Hulk Hogan for 20 minutes. The event saw not just titles go on the line but Kurt Angle's Olympic Medal...and the custody of a child. That child was mini-Slim Shady Dominik Mysterio, who in storyline had recently discovered that Eddie Guerrero is his biological father, adopted by Rey Mysterio and his wife. Fifteen years later, Dominik would step back into a Summerslam ring, this time to make his wrestling debut. While he would lose, Dominik gained a lot of positives especially given how he was up against Seth Rollins, Dominik's progression continues to impress as his father ensures that he gets the best training he can provide, the prince of the Mysterio household has a bright future ahead of him.
Worst - Murphy takes the fall in the Mysterio/Rollins Feud Alas, the Mysterio Family vs Monday Night Messiah would only have sporadic good moments and part of that is because Seth would escape mostly squeaky clean. The few times the Mysterio family would win was when it was a tag match with Murphy to take the fall. This wasn't just unfair on the Mysterios since they were being robbed again of 'winning' a feud which involved Seth ripping Rey's eye out but it also was a disservice to Murphy's talents as a former Ace of 205.
Best - Reigns FINALLY turns Heel, and is a Heyman Guy Roman Reigns was consistently booed for about 5 years, earning a reprieve when kayfabe was thrown away to support him in his bout with Leukemia. Given his dialysis, COVID left him as a risk for most of the year, but he made a huge return in the Universal title match between Braun and the Fiend. Debuting a heel persona which would align with Paul Heyman, WWE had finally done what the fans wanted - turn Roman heel. And Roman has been on top ever since, the Tribal Chief Reigns.
Worst - Splitting the IIconics In a bout of trying to raise stakes, WWE decided that the best way to service their women's tag division was for 2 popular teams to fight for contendership - but the losers would have to split up. Between the Riott Squad and the IIconics, the former would win the match - but continue to be underbooked to the point where their reunion after feuding with each other has become fruitless - which meant that one of the few established tag teams in the women's division were splitting...not too long since the Kabuki Warriors had split too. Despite half a year later Peyton delivering a killer promo and Billie showing some comedic flair, neither bounced back from the split - their only solace now is to reunite now that they too just now have been released...
Worst - Velveteen Dream comes back June proved to be a shocking time for wrestling in general when brave people publicly called out their experiences with sexual, emotional and physical harassment and abuse. This rattled all companies and blacklisted a ton of once renowned wrestlers such as David Starr, Jimmy Havoc, Jack Gallagher, Marty Scurll, Travis Banks, El Ligero, Joey Ryan and shut down all of Chikara pro wrestling. Velveteen Dream was among the names listed, accused of having inappropriate communications and grooming minors, this was of course a huge blow to the once-popular rising star. Like they did with Matt Riddle, Joe Coffey, Wolfgang, Jordan Devlin and Sid Scala, WWE decided to investigate rather than immediately release Dream. During this time, WWE should have kept Dream off TV for an extended period of time, instead he appeared a month later on NXT to qualify for the NA Title ladder match Priest would win under heavy scrutiny of the fans. As much as WWE point out that they had found nothing, many still remain unconvinced and while Dream is currently off tv now, having him return so soon did not inspire confidence.
September 2020 Best - Sami gets the IC Title Back After being unfairly stripped of the title back in May, Sami returned to claim himself the true IC champion. Pitted against AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy, the trio would embark on a smart and highly acclaimed ladder match for the title, which Sami would win. Course correction coming into play for Sami to resume his reign, but I still wonder why he was the heel in all of that...
Worst - Changing Aleister Black's Attire and Entrance Aleister Black had the IT Factor, he was a superb striker with a great gimmick of a dark and brooding warrior, rising like a vampire in his entrance with a demonic jacket, he oozed the aura of a main event player. Until Vince changed the music and decided that Black should wear an eyepatch...this of course was done after a span of barely booking Aleister anyway - despite him delivering in his matches - before not booking him at all.
Best - The Prince is Promised Finn Balor's return to NXT had been on a slow burn at this point, but with Karrion Kross having to vacate due to a separated shoulder a new NXT champion had to be crowned. After a 4-way iron man tie, Balor came on top on Super Tuesday Part 2. Finn being champion again was indeed the right choice, while it delays his collision with WALTER indefinitely he has had a superb reign filling in for Karrion Kross, who would reclaim in a good match at Stand & Deliver.
Worst - Telenovela Bullshit The Mysterios/Messiah storyline tangented in a bad way in its ending stages before fizzling out. Aalyah Mysterio had been booked into a romance with Murphy, the acting was like a soap opera and not in the good way. 'But mother, I love him' literally being the weekly storyline of coaxing Murphy away from Seth, all of which became dropped to mean nothing for anyone.
Best - Kyle O'Reilly and Jey Uso enter the Main Event Primarily tag wrestlers for their WWE careers, Kyle O'Reilly and Jey Uso were given unexpected chances at the world champions Balor and Reigns on NXT and Smackdown, and boy did they take those chances. Both men impressed hugely in their matches, enough to get multiple rematches and a bigger role in the main event from it, Jey would join Roman as a heel and support to the Tribal Chief while O'Reilly would come to blows with Adam Cole in an unsanctioned match. Both men can be seen as world champions now.
October 2020 Best - NXT UK Acquisitions NXT UK hasn't really gained the desired momentum, which is a shame because there are a lot of great talent still there, and they sport one of the best looking active belts in Wrestling today. The problem is the limited audience and minimal roster depth, which is why it was refreshing when WWE signed more to the brand, the big name of Meiko Satomura being the headliner but also Rampage Brown and the steal of Ben Carter - now Nathan Frazer - from under AEW's nose. Later they would push A-Kid and sign the former Lucky Kid and Millie McKenzie to further bolster its brand.
Worst - Not Repackaging Retribution On October 5th, WWE decided to turn Mustafa Ali heel and put him as the leader of Retribution, but they would also pit them against the Hurt Business - a heel faction - and reveal himself the 'Smackdown Hacker' - who had unveiled some heels doing heelish deeds. Confusing at the best of times, Retribution never got past losing either, forcing Mia Yim to do tantrums in the ring on a mini-push that came to nothing and elevating nobody. Retribution had chances to save itself, but WWE didn't take those chances.
Best - Sasha wins big! At last, Sasha wins a big title match clean in a storyline payoff against Bayley. Both women at the top of their game, they earned the Hell in a Cell spot and began a title reign that would go longer than any of Sasha's other main title reigns. The Boss was finally standing on top as the main roster finally did Sasha vs Bayley right.
Worst - Orton wins big... Randy Orton had been feuding with Drew since beating Edge at Backlash, losing on consecutive title matches until Hell in a Cell, where he won despite the slow burn hints at a Fiend feud. While Randy was at the top of is heel game and Drew didn't have to hold the title all year, the multiple past attempts deflated this story as well as scrutinizing WWE constantly saying 'no rematch clauses' and 'you can't just walk in and demand a title match' but then doing the absolute same thing. Orton's title run wouldn't last either, which makes it all the more meh.
Worst - The Draft The Draft is meant to lead to surprising new dynamics and storyline changes, but 2020's Draft was a misfire. For one, there was no competition for it, Raw got 3 just because it ran longer and a percentage of the draft picks were wrestlers staying on the brand they were already on, making the shock factor limited. The Mysterios followed Rollins to Smackdown to continue their drab storyline, the tag champions swapped belts to remain colour coded and for some reason some tag teams were treated as individual and some not.
November 2020 Best - Undertaker's Retirement Ceremony After 2 previous 'retirements', the Undertaker finally hung up his boots for real this time, ending it where it began: Survivor Series. It was a very tasteful affair with nods to the card he debuted on such as the Gobbeldy Gooker and Brother Love, it was a good time and a good sendoff for one of WWE's greatest characters.
Worst - Survivor Series books it wrong While there was many good matches in Survivor Series, it did suffer from the usual booking mentality of 'Raw Superiority'. Lana became a sole survivor by default of count outs and DQs in a team including Shayna and Asuka, the Smackdown men were completely squashed despite having a strong team and Baron Corbin and finally, no NXT. There was the potential for adding Balor, Io, Priest and Imperium to these matches and that just could've elevated it, the last was more understandable though given COVID.
Worst - Not booking 3 Future Stars Andrade, Aleister and Murphy. All three had shone before reaching the main roster be it for NXT on the former two and 205 Live on the latter. But on the Main Roster their luck was a mixed bag; Murphy had recently beat Rollins clean, but after the Mysterios were about to come down with COVID themselves WWE didn't push anything with him, Andrade was a former US Champion in a faction that all fell apart within the year and Black was a shitkicker who WWE were methodically gutting. All three would soon see themselves not on tv at all, and for two they had an alarming connection.
Worst - Zelina gets fired Zelina Vega was the one who elevated Andrade to a face midcarder to a heel main eventer on NXT, she was also coming along well as a wrestler with some decent bouts with Asuka. But when WWE enacted a policy that their wrestlers couldn't profit from third party stuff like twitch, when Zelina resisted and found loopholes she found herself getting released soon after, Andrade and her irl husband Aleister Black now ominously missing from WWE, it was for the most part pettiness on WWE's behalf to forbid their talent from making money elsewhere by being themselves.
December 2020 Best - Big E wins the Big IC Without his New Day buddies, Big E could continue his singles run despite daft claims from Corey that as a decorated tag champion Big E couldn't do singles wrestling like he did when he was NXT Champion and IC Champion. But on the Christmas Smackdown taping, Big E would win the IC championship to a big babyface moment, which he would carry into Wrestlemania.
Worst - Gargano wins the NA Title (again) I have nothing against Johnny Gargano, but it is odd that he was the one to usurp Damian Priest and then Leon Ruff. To this day he still holds that title despite Dexter Lumis, Bronson Reed, LA Knight, KUSHIDA (who recently just won the Cruiserweight title) and Cameron Grimes all looking like worthy competitors to get a push. It's a strange place where Gargano builds a faction with gold but it doesn't elevate anyone around his waist.
Worst - Charlotte returns just to add another title to her list WWE's obsession with mismatched teams is matched only by their obsession with pitting a champion and no.1 contender against tag champions, both of which are overdone. So when TLC came along with Asuka having a mystery partner to face Shayna and Nia, it didn't quite land that her partner was Charlotte and they went on to win the titles...only to drop it in about a month as they teased a title match between the two. It showed the low pecking order the tag titles had, the lowered stock of Shayna and how the title change was merely to say that Charlotte had won every title in WWE (at that time).
Worst - Miz fails his Cash-In, but gets the Briefcase back The Men's MITB was horribly booked all year and time was running out, WWE had to decide whether they would have to book a failed cash in - and put the Miz in the same list as Sandow and Corbin in those who lost their cash-in (Cena and Braun if we include those who didn't capture gold), making Miz champion or hot potatoing again. At the end of TLC it looked like they picked the latter, which would've tied things up in a bow. But the following Raw, the Miz got his briefcase back because Morrison had cashed it in for him, meaning the saga was forced to continue.
January 2021 Best - Xia Li finally gets a repackage Xia Li has been on the NXT Roster for a long time, like Vanessa Borne and Aaliyah long time, but the best NXT could give her for a long time was 'Chinese Undercarder'. 2021 however made a shift, by turning Li heel with a storyline of her and Boa answering to a mystic overlord, Li turned into a brutish kickass killer, squashes building to her dispatching her former friends. While she still sits low on the card, it's promising stuff that can easily be pushed towards the main title scene, and frankly Xia Li has done her time to earn such a push.
Worst - Goldberg challenges Drew 'for disrespecting legends' The whole Goldberg fiasco was once again a rush job that served nobody except old Bill. Still soured by the fact that he cleanly defeated the Fiend and also had a horror match with Taker, nobody was quite amped to see Drew vs Goldberg at Royal Rumble. His reasoning for feuding with Drew was also confusing since he was claiming that Drew had disrespected the legends on Legends Night when he had been fully supportive and respectful towards them. Mercifully, the feud did not go Goldberg's way.
Best - The Women's Dusty Classic is Announced The Dusty Rhodes classic has in NXT become a platform for tag teams and mismatch alliances to flourish and open into newer storylines, and also to sometimes set up War Games, and with the vast depth of the NXT Women's Locker Room it was the right call for WWE to make a women's variation. The tournament allowed Candice, Dakota, Raquel, Ember and Shotzi to get tv time outside of a world title shot and so their talents weren't entirely wasted.
Worst - Sonya Returns, but as a GM Assistant When Sonya Deville took some time off post-Summerslam, she had proven herself to be skilled on the mic and in the ring. But on Jan 1st's Smackdown Sonya would be spotted and later it was officially announced that Sonya was back on Smackdown, but as Adam Pearce's assistant. Aside from some backstage talks and Street Profits trying to bribe her for a title match, Sonya hasn't seen much TV time - which is a poor utilization of her skills. The position is fine to an extent, but Sonya should be using her position to further her in-ring prospects too, take a leaf from AJ Lee's book.
Best - Edge returns at the Rumble While I was never unhappy with Edge winning the rumble I wouldn't say it was the best booking choice out of the roster. If anything though, Edge returning from Injury at Number 1 was a definite crowd-pleaser, and pitting him against Orton to resume their hostilities set the tone for the Men's Royal Rumble.
Worst - Corbin beats the Mysterios Clean on Consecutive Weeks I don't know what the purpose of this was. After returning from COVID, the Mysterios were put against King Corbin in weekly matches, Rey lost to Corbin clean, Dom lost to Corbin clean, there weren't any interferences or weapons, and there wasn't really a plot to this. Only when Dom beat Corbin thanks to Rey's help did the feud 'end', but it didn't really do anything for them, in the end, Dom cheats to win and not in an Eddie Guerrero way. It was just weird.
Best - The Women's Royal Rumble The Women's Royal Rumble in 2021 was a masterpiece, nearly every woman in that match got some shine and a bit of story. There was depth, context and clarity in the bout and the exciting prospect of the final two being Bianca and Rhea - two NXT prospects who would both later grasp gold. The ending segment solidified a perfectly-booked bout that would set a standard the men couldn't outshine that night.
Worst - The Universal Title Last Man Standing botch Handcuffed on the scaffolding, Roman Reigns looked certain to lose his Last Man Standing match against Kevin Owens as Heyman frantically tried to uncuff him. Of course, this was a botch at the worst of times but instead of attempting to ad-lib something, the Ref just restarted his count after reaching 6. It was a daft choice that killed the sails of the match, they should've either attacked the ref or let Owens - who had lost to Reigns several times already - hold the title for a month or so before dropping back to Roman.
February 2021 Best - MSK win the Classic On Impact the Rascalz were a beloved faction, and when two thirds of them jumped ship to NXT as MSK, fans were eager to see if WWE would go all the way with them, or if they would let the UK uberheel team of Grizzled Young Veterans take the spot. Fortunately they went for the former, which was a big boost for the future tag champions - only slightly delayed by injuries to both MSK and the then-champions Burch and Lorcan.
Worst - Top Tier Bad Booking on all 3 Shows Despite Smackdown and NXT regularly dwarfing Raw in quality, each show had begun a less than stellar narrative to build some feuds among their favoured wrestlers. On NXT, Gargano's faction The Way were having a Dexter Lumis problem - and although Lumis had won a non-title match against the NA Champion he did not get a title shot - one which had its bright parts but was often found goofy especially with the Indi Hartwell romance stuff. Smackdown merely had to keep it simple with Bianca and Sasha, but instead, they decided to go through the 'can they work together' route with Shayna and Nia, again shoddy booking threatened to dampen a Women's Wrestlemania Main Event. But Raw of course had the worst of it, Charlotte would be a babyface feuding with Lacey Evans, who was fucking her father...fans were already aware that Lacey has a husband and child which WWE had acknowledged before, and the feud only ended because Lacey was legitimately pregnant - which they storyline'd to be Ric's too - sparing Asuka of the same fate. It just wasn't a good time.
Best - Cameron Grimes STONKS The Gamestop Reddit Stocks moment came out of nowhere and made people a lot of money, WWE decided that Cameron Grimes would be one of those people. Already exuding charismatic energy and a decent catchphrase, making Grimes rich somehow elevated his character further as a hilariously snobby whackjob. Here's hoping he gets a solid crack at it as he cites DiBiase, maybe like he did Grimes can pay his way to the top.
Worst - Sheamus sucks at history Sheamus turning on Drew was an inevitability, and their matches were strong and entertaining affairs. But WWE really didn't try too hard to think of a reason for Sheamus to turn on Drew, citing his reasoning to be that Sheamus had lived in Drew's shadow. I mean really? We're talking about the same Sheamus who has won every men's accolade in WWE bar the IC title while Drew was doing air guitar with Heath, Jinder and Hornswoggle in the undercard? You have to make things make sense for people to buy into it.
Worst - Miz gets to be King for a Week Following on from Miz's failed cash-in was Miz's successful cash-in after Elimination Chamber - an action he succeeded in thanks to Lashley assaulting Drew post-match. While Miz being world champion again was anticipated for a long time, the timing was not right at all and fans were more or less relieved to see that Lashley would be taking the title from him within the next week. It was mostly a bit of clean up after realising that they don't want to use the MITB in the build to Wrestlemania, afterwards Miz went from WWE Champion to feuding with a rapper - also spare a thought for Morrison who doesn't really get to do anything outside of being the Miz's buddy.
March 2021 Best - Lashley wins the WWE Championship Speaking of Miz's short-lived reign, the one saving grace from it was that Lashley would claim it soon after, looking like a monster in the process. An overdue run for the man who was slowly looking like he was about to fade out of the company the same way that several others had and later would got his position to be WWE Champion, long may he reign.
Worst - La Sombra de El Idolo Andrade remains one of the most talented wrestlers of his generation, he had several paths in WWE that could have moved him to the top of the card, several feuds that people were amped for. And none of it came to be, because Andrade was granted release on his second attempt. Where Andrade El Idolo will appear next remains up for discussion, the likely route being AEW or reconvening with his old Ingobernables, but wherever he lands it'll be on his feet.
Worst - Shane returns just in time for Wrestlemania Season Shane McMahon is the boss' son, with a masochistic urge to be thrown off of things. But he doesn't seem to realise that every time he's on the card someone more deserving is not, not even with a posse as he tries to renew his 3 Minute Warning days. This time around Shane beleaguered WWE's card with a feud against Braun Strowman circulating around Shane calling him stupid and pouring green goo on him...who asked for this?
Worst - Apollo changes his accent Speaking of 'who asked for this?', Apollo's heel turn in embracing his Nigerian heritage was fine, a new edge for the otherwise smiley naive face character. But then Apollo decided to put on an accent, even though he's spent years without it. It was just unnecessary, a stamp that was to say 'I am foreign, boo my foreignness' that certainly has no room in today's wrestling. What's the odds that within a year Apollo's Nigerian Royalty gimmick will be warped into a Nigerian Prince scammer gimmick?
Worst - Women's Tag Fuckery Upon winning the women's Dusty Classic, Raquel and Dakota got a Women's Tag Opportunity against boringly longstanding champions Shayna & Nia, however rather than just pull the trigger and give the titles to them, WWE opted for a cheat finish which had Adam Pearce turn heel for the day just to screw over NXT. This was all a convoluted plan to create NXT Women's Tag Championships, which were awarded to Raquel and Dakota...before immediately losing it to Ember and Shotzi. Just what you want when establishing a new title huh? Quickfire title changes! It was all just very roundabout, should've simply announced the titles for the Women's Dusty Classic prize or given the Women's Tag to a team that could actually use it.
April 2021 Best - Edge and Roman add a bit of YES Alone Edge vs Reigns was still a highly anticipated Universal title bout. But the addition of Daniel Bryan brought in several new layers and conflicts for all characters. Each of them (like Balor vs Kross would) were presented as warriors who were forced medically to vacate the top prize only to come back stronger, each of them main evented Wrestlemania, and each of them were some of the best wrestlers in the world. The triple threat also meant that No DQ stipulations could be opened up, allowing Edge to show more of his heelish and psychotic side, as well as Bryan and Roman's viciousness. All three sold that they wanted that title and it made it stand out.
Worst - That Hurts our Business The Hurt Business was looking to become another success story in modern WWE factions. Masterminded by a resurgent MVP and helmed by now WWE Champion Bobby Lashley, Business was indeed booming. Until the final few weeks of Wrestlemania decided to cast aside Shelton and Cedric - the latter they strived to convince in joining them within the past year - and effectively dissolve the group. The loss of the Hurt Business led to high criticism, especially since Cedric and Shelton fell hard into the undercard only to see King Corbin cross brands to do Lashley's dirty work, it just wasn't a good thing and the possibility of replacing those spots with Mace and T-Bar does not quite fill the void.
Best - Cesaro gets his Push Cesaro had often been haunted by the dangling of the 'brass ring' over his head. Despite a frequent tag champion and also a US champion, WWE shied away from his strong and dedicated fanbase that desired more for the Swiss Superman/Cyborg. In the build to Elimination Chamber, fans were intrigued by Cesaro's clean wins over such names as Daniel Bryan, but were not surprised when he didn't come out on top in the chamber itself. In the aftermath though, Cesaro began a feud with Seth Rollins, someone who could boast an impressive Wrestlemania W/L record, compared to Cesaro - whose only Wrestlemania singles match was last year's Pre-Show. The match was put on Night 1 and was a lovely affair with a clear story, most importantly though Cesaro came out on top with a huge rub and like that, the Cesaro section gets to believe again.
Worst - Fiend Falls to One RKO After spending the last year re-mystifying the Fiend by having him survive all manner of things including drowning and being set on fire, the return of the Fiend to open Night 2 of Wrestlemania left a sour taste in fans' mouths. After 8 minutes of no-selling Orton's offense, Alexa Bliss reappeared with black goo over her face to distract the Fiend, he was hit with an RKO and pinned for 3. The bafflement was high as fans wondered what exactly the intention was for having the Fiend lose on his return, and why it took only one RKO to finish it when so much worse things have struggled to keep him down.
Best - NXT Stands and Delivers before Mania In what was a long and entertaining week of wrestling, NXT said goodbye to Wednesday Nights in style with their Wrestlemania-esque 2-Day Takeover. The shows were good sporting some fun matches, including an entertaining CW unification ladder match and Io passing the torch to Raquel, though NXT weren't invited to Survivor Series or Mania this time, they still put on a great show before moving to Tuesdays.
Worst - Riotts, SD Tag Champions slighted The Riott Squad currently stand as one of WWE's last surviving genuine tag teams, everyone else being singles wrestlers thrown together to avoid Main Event or Superstars. However, they also stand as a team who after multiple attempts are still not tag champions. After carrying the bulk of their Night 1 Tag Team Turmoil, the Riott Squad were unfortunately left to be felled by Natalya and Tamina - who would lose on Night 2 rendering this pointless anyway - and I have to ask, is it ever going to happen? The Riott Squad are not the only tag team hard done by at Wrestlemania, as the Smackdown Tag Championship did not even make it on the card! A fatal 4-Way between the Dirty Dawgs, Street Profits, Alpha Academy and Mysterios could've brought some infectious energy into Night 2 given the amount of talent in those four teams, but instead it got put on a 'Wrestlemania special Smackdown' while Shane vs Braun ended up on the main card. Priorities were not straight there and WWE robbed Dominik Mysterio of a Wrestlemania debut, their only contribution being a video recap and a Dirty Dawgs interview on Night 1 to prelude the Raw Tag Championship match.
Best - Wrestlemania dished out the goods, and the fans In spite of some questionable booking in the early stages, we end the list on a high. Wrestlemania didn't have the best build or go-home show, but it certainly delivered on a blend of storytelling and wrestling, big title changes for Bianca and Rhea and solid matches for the majority of the card meant that WWE ended on a high. Most importantly too, it was in front of a crowd, the ambiance very much missed on the Grandest Stage of them All.
I would rant about April 15th 2021 but I said it's from Mania 36 to 37 so yeah, footnote fuck April 15th. In the end though WWE had its ups and downs, but hopefully they will learn from some of their mistakes and come back stronger

After much preparation, it is time for their mini-guerilla concert to happen!
As stated previously, they’ll be performing ‘I Feel Good’, ‘Mini Skirt’, ‘Boy’, and ‘Like A Cat’ from their own discography tracklist. They were given the choice of doing two special performances: one will be a dance routine to ‘Cray In Love’ and the other is a full cover of ‘I’m Fine’ by DE:CODE. They’ll go to the IFC Mall in Yeouido where the concert will happen on March 13th. The entire show will last around 30 minutes including the performances, the start and end ments, as well as the talk times in between. The members will be dressed as based on this image:
Ashe — LE
Cheri — Solji
Ella — Jeonghwa
Yena — Hani
Zoe — Hyerin
Seoul’s Fashion Week will start on March 16th, going until March 21st. All of the members were invited to watch the show on March 16th, while Ella was chosen to walk for the designer UL:KIN. She’ll wear two outfits: 1, 2. On their way to the event, they’ll all stop for photos on the ramp leading up to the blue carpet, and on the carpet itself.
On March 16th, the whole group will head out for a recording of After Mom Is Asleep for the S-POP Channel. You may use this video as a reference!
The Season of Spring will start this month and, to commemorate it, Music Bank canceled its usual airing on March 27th in favor of a special concert—and Luxe is invited! The group will perform two songs: ‘Cherry Pop’ and ‘Like A Cat’. They’ll wear the clothes as seen in this image.
Ashe — Hyejeong
Cheri — Mina
Ella — Jimin
Yena — Chanmi
Zoe — Yuna
Apart from their group stages, Ella will also take part in a special stage along with other idols. She’ll do a performance of the song ‘Trouble Maker’ along with B.Mil from DE:CODE. They’ll initially learn the choreography apart, but, since they’re from the same company, they will be able to meet up on certain dates to practice together with the presence of their dance coaches. They’ll record the song beforehand on March 20th.
From March 22nd on, they’ll start learning the dance of their next title track, Up & Down. At the start, Yena will be the one standing in the center.
The girls will all go to their usual hair salon on the March 29th to get their styling for this comeback, or just to make sure their hair is in good condition. They’ll all be going together in one morning trip. Members who changed their hairstyles are told not to reveal them to the public until their next official public appearance.
Ashe — Blonde (reference)
Cheri — Brown (reference)
Ella — Black (reference)
Yena — Dark brown (reference)
Zoe — Bronze brown (reference)
Ella will continue to film her drama, but this month will have an extra degree of excitement: the drama will start to air! The episodes will air two times a week, on Wednesday and on Thursday, the first one airing on March 25th. The finale will be on May 28th. Ella will have to attend a press conference on the day of release, March 25th, along with the rest of the cast and the director that will explain the plot simply, as well as the characters, through questions and answers which can be referenced by this video. She’ll be dressed as seen in this image.
To help promote the drama, she’ll go to a recording of an interview for Kocowa TV after the press conference is over along with her co-stars Kim Minji, Hong Hyun, Na Joonhyuk (NPC playing Kim Tan), and Kim Dongha (NPC playing Choi Youngdo). You may use this video as a reference. On March 26th, she’ll go along with the four other cast members to Kiss The Radio, and on March 30th to Idol Radio.
Zoe will be pulled aside by their manager on March 9th to let her know of a new opportunity. The people in charge of the musical ‘Legally Blonde’ are checking for interest on her taking part in it, but with no big role. She’ll be given a dancer role and will start practicing to along with the rest of the cast starting on March 16th. Her practice times won’t be as intense as the lead actors, so she’ll be given some liberty, especially as an idol. She may use some of her free time after practicing for her songs to work on the musical at the Royal building. Musicals take a long time to prepare, so she should work hard until it is ready for its first performances in a couple of months time.
Meanwhile, a producing team enters in contact with Royal Entertainment to offer audition opportunities to a new drama of theirs. This time, Cheri is the one who is offered this opportunity. The role she’s auditioning for wasn’t specified, nor was the drama they’ll be producing described. She is to choose any scene of her liking to act for an audition on March 28th. The results will come out the following month.
You will gain +5 POINTS TO DISTRIBUTE AS YOU WISH, +3 DEBUT POINTS and +2 ACHIEVEMENTS for completing the written requirements as explained on the idol tier page. As this is not a promotional month, you may choose any two achievements for the month’s points. There is a capped maximum of five solos, sets of starters and/or partnered threads you may write for to collect this month’s points.

Eren/Levi Spring 2019 Mini Bang Event
Hey there Eren/Levi fandom! We are happy to announce our Spring Mini Bang event! This mini-bang will break in the spring with fresh ideas and hash them all out for the world to see by the start of summer.
WHAT IS A MINI BANG YOU ASK???
A minibang is a fandom challenge where writers and artists are paired together to compose and illustrate a story. A minibang is just a smaller version of a big bang! The key differences are smaller word/art requirements and a shorter timeframe. Read on for the schedule and more specifics in the FAQs.
SCHEDULE:
Announcement: March 21st [Thursday] Writer Sign-Ups: March 25th [Monday] - March 30th [Saturday] Artist Sign-Ups: March 31st [Sunday] - April 4th [Thursday] Check in #1 (Writers): April 8th [Monday] Claim Submissions: April 12th [Friday] Claims Open: April 15th [Monday] Claims Close: April 17th [Wednesday] Claims Delivered and Writers Alerted: April 19th [Friday] Check-In #2: April 29nd [Monday] Check-In #3: May 13th [Monday] Final Day to Drop: May 29th [Wednesday] (NOTE: FAILING TO DROP BEFORE THIS DATE WILL PREVENT YOU FROM PARTICIPATING IN FUTURE EVENTS/EXCHANGES SUCH AS THIS AND BOTH PARTIES WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE EVENT.) Final Check-In: June 3rd [Monday] Deadline: June 21st [Friday] Posting Begins: July 1st [Monday]
(This timeline is written to accommodate most timezones and each checkpoint will end in PST | GMT-5)
"What's the Writer Minimum?"
+ 8k words at a minimum, there is no maximum (NOTE: While there is no maximum, please ensure that if you go over our limit that you will be done with your work by the time posting begins).
+ 16k if co-authoring (8k for each participating author).
"What is the Artist Minimum?"
+ Artists will be required to produce at least 1 illustration at a minimum, there is no maximum.
"What tag will we be using?"
+ #ereriminibang2k19 will be our primary tag.
“How will picking proceed?”
+ Artists will pick 3 submissions from the list that they will like to draw for. This is a first come, first, so the first interested artist will get the claim.
“What are Claims?”
+ Claims are summaries or debriefings from the fanfictions in which artists get to pic from and see which they would like to draw for. Claims are to be numbered and author names will be kept anonymous to ensure fairness.
“What are Check-Ins?”
+ Check-Ins are quick briefings in which we mods check the progress of participants to make sure everything is going as planned, on schedule. This will occur periodically all the way up until posting.
“Gee, in this event I’ll be closely watched by moderators? Sounds intense.”
+ Fear not, this part isn’t meant to be nerve wracking. Mods just need to keep tabs on this kind of event to ensure it runs smoothly and to make sure no one is left without a writer or artist.
Think of us checking in on you all as resident assistants, making sure you all have the tools you need to progress safely and on time throughout the process. If you need help, please don’t worry! Ask us and we will be more than happy to get you on track and/or assist you with anything. We promise we don’t bite!
“What happens if I miss claims/ check-ins?”
THEN YOU ARE DEAD TO US. Just kidding.
+ If you miss the claiming period you will be dropped from the event.
+ If you are late to a check-in, you need to inform a mod or the team ASAP, no exceptions, or we will take it that you are no longer interested and you will be dropped and replaced.
“Are we allowed a little bit of wiggle room/time extensions?”
+ Given the long timeline, extensions will be considered on a case by case basis. Please plan ahead and look at your schedules to make sure this event is right for you.
“My question is not on the list…”
+ Please shoot us or a mod of choice a message and we will get to you ASAP.

Hey, I'm not sure what happened and you don't have to say anything at all but I just want you to know I'm sorry, that you are loved and appreciated and that I can't wait to read your new fic! all the love and strength and good vibes to you!
Don’t know if you’re a follower or still hanging around, anon, so hope you see this. Apologies for it being long.
A little over a month ago, I noticed my cat was squinting. His cheek eventually swelled up. I took him to the vet and the vet thought it might be an abscess or it might be a tumor. A day later, when his cheek swelled up so large that the eye was completely closed, my dad took him back to the vet and we received absolutely, soul-crushing, heartrending news: my cat, my beloved shadow of a tuxedo cat that has been my constant companion of nearly a decade, the medium sized basketball cat who would wait at the door when I got home from work/errands/away from home, who would follow me everywhere, had cancer. It was terminal; there was no hope of recovery, no surgical removal of the tumor that was growing behind his eye and causing degradation of the bone. Our only option was the humane one: it would be time to say goodbye. The vet couldn’t tell us how much longer we’d have this loving creature in our lives, but my dad left the final decision to me. I couldn’t bear to let him go yet - my home state was in lockdown at the time and while the vet’s office was open for checkups and all, family members weren’t allowed inside; if we put him down, my precious cat would breathe his last breath without even his “momma” to hold him - so I told my dad that, as long as Ringo (our cat) wasn’t in any pain, we wouldn’t be putting him down any time soon. But at the first sign his quality of life declined, my first day off was when we’d say our goodbyes. How blindly optimistic that decision seems now, how Pollyanna of me. Hours later, the tumor burst: now there would be only pain for my precious kitty, it was time to say goodbye. The clinic had given my dad the name of a vet who performed in-home visits so pets didn’t have to go to a cold clinic for their final trip. My dad made the call to set up an appointment; I could barely speak. I still went into work that afternoon, feeling like I was in a bad dream, until I broke down sobbing in front of our news director who asked the simplest of greetings: “how’s it going?” The first vet visit was Tuesday morning, the devastating blow was Wednesday afternoon, and the decision to let him go was Thursday. Saturday morning, April 18th, a week shy of his 13th birthday and two weeks shy of the tenth anniversary of bringing him home from the shelter, Ringo passed away quietly in my arms. And I have been devastated since. I understand he’s gone, but sometimes I still find myself, even a month later, waking up to wonder why his comforting weight isn’t squashed against my leg or be confused when, while watching tv in my bedroom, my bedroom door stays firmly shut. I’ve had family members pass away (my aunt passed last year of brain cancer, as well as others) and I’ve had to put down other furry family members, but none has left me with the physical, crushing ache this death is giving me.
Unfortunately, while my fic was supposed to go live today, it’s been pushed back. Somehow, and I can’t really blame the fog the above death put on my brain (although it’s certainly a factor), I missed the fact that the minimum word count for 1D Big Bang was 25k words, and not the 20k I had written and posted. I’ve got an extension from the mods (death of beloved furry son not mentioned) that’s good until the end of June, but you shouldn’t have to wait that long.
Thank you for your concern and well wishes. 💙💙💚💚
