It is, objectively, super funny that the Trek fandom in general is sitting around hoping that STP ignores their faves and doesn’t try and involve them. I mean, it’s many other things as well, but it’s funny that I keep being recommended random posts of random people crossing their fingers hoping that their blorbos will be ignored, never be seen on screen, and therefore saved from anything from bad characterisation to death via stupid contrived avoidable circumstance.

Anyhow, in lieu of a recent post, I kinda wanna apply it to another fandom and say this is the reason why I don't think Emmanuel is gonna redeem himself next season, not necessarily at least. Like yeah sure he FEELS bad but to him this is a test from God or whatever so that justifies everything.
He thinks he's someone who accounts for the long-term, unlike these revolutionaries who think only about improving their short-term mortal lives, and thus forsake their long-term afterlife in heaven in the process. Emmanuel think he's long-term and he's gonna outmaneuver Erzsebet, who will be so caught up in using his night creatures to crush the rebellion that she'll fail to account for what happens afterwards when Emmanuel can just turn on her. He thinks he's fucking Solomon with the ring that can control demons.
Emmanuel is just gonna bitch and moan and weep about all the sacrifices he's making but it's the GOOD kind of suffering, like how Christ had to suffer and make sacrifices, because it's a test from God. He compared himself to Abraham and he was even rewarded with a ram in Tera for his devotion!!! So he could absolutely interpret this as proof he's on the right path and double down.
Emmanuel is such a mediocre father. It's heartbreaking that for all of her teenage rage and rebellion, Maria still earnestly cares for him once she finds out he's her dad, she risks it all in trusting him because surely her own dad will come around for her, and she cares!!! She cares for family!!! And then Maria is burned so hard for that trust, she saw Emmanuel weep about sacrificing her and then do it anyway. Maria lost her own mother, a parent who actually cared, because she dared to assume her dad had the same basic decency as Tera did. She's gonna know better, the poor girl... But at what cost?
And Emmanuel is gonna be Oh Woe Is Me!!! when he sees what his beloved has become. But in the end his Christian savior complex matters more than anything else, even if he DOES care for other things. Because if he truly cared for Maria from the start, he'd have quit his position to focus on raising his daughter. But instead he continued to neglect her, and then endanger her with his night creatures, and then finally outright sacrifice Maria. Because being the Christian savior who saves everyone's immortal souls, at the low cost of their mortal lives, matters more. Like god he must've had a savior complex about providing Tera hospitality when they first met.
"You're not gonna spare them, are you?" Shut the fuck up Emmanuel you're gonna cry yourself to sleep over this and then the next morning decide that you've fulfilled your daily Catholic Guilt quota and can go back to being a dickhead because you feel bad so obviously that proves you're a good person right???
And from a meta standpoint, I suspect Emmanuel is the show's version of Shaft, who was a major villain who died resurrecting Dracula and successfully inflicted real damage against the Belmonts for like two hundred years. The similarities between Emmanuel and Shaft are too many and obvious, and it'd be redundant to introduce Shaft when Emmanuel is right there as the evil priest. I suspect they changed his name because Shaft has juvenile connotations in English that the Japanese creators who came up with Shaft weren't aware of, especially when pulling from the German language.
Granted, Isaac changed quite a bit from his game counterpart, as someone who DID die resurrecting Dracula in the source material; But otherwise, the creative liberties is further support for Emmanuel being Shaft in spite of the differences. I don't think Emmanuel will start worshipping Dracula as a coping method; The show kinda burned the bridge with Dracula as a villain, and there isn't really a meaningful connection nor reason for Emmanuel to latch onto that guy in particular.
More likely, he'll latch onto the demon (probably Galamoth) who gave him the forgemaster machine, and that demon will read Emmanuel like an open book -an even easier read than the instruction manual for the machine it provided- and feed into his savior complex, into his self-perception of himself as a tortured and misunderstood genius or some shit. The demon will stroke Emmanuel's ego as salve after the humiliation of S1's finale, and Emmanuel is gonna snort it like copium until he's convinced this demon is an asset sent by God to assist him; Just as Solomon's demons were. He's gonna be played like a fiddle by some higher demon AGAIN be shocked about it. Again.

Hey like I'm sorry bad things happened to you but these aren't all universal experiences. Girlhood is absolutely not about molestation and abuse. Girlhood isn't about anything other than growing from an infant into an adult, and I don't feel there needs to be any special significance attached. If you were hurt during that time, it's not because "that's what Girlhood is", it's because unfortunately you crossed paths with people willing to do you harm.
Many women, myself included, have never had an issue with being cat called. Even then, this isn't violence.
This is called puberty. I would go as far as saying bleeding through your pants is something every woman on the planet has experienced at least once. This is not violence— it's growing up.
Breast pain during development comes from the fact your breasts are developing. Are you really not familiar with the colloqialism "growing pains"? I promise a teenage boy who is also going through puberty and experiencing all the discomfort and pain that comes with it.is not sending brainwaves that make your boobs hurt.
Girls can and do assault boys in the hallway. A lot of my male friends have stories of being groped or touched inappropriately, as do many of my female friends. I also have friends that have been assaulted by their same sex. This is not a 'women's only' issue.
Also not a universal experience. I have never had a 'rape talk', nor has anyone I've known, even friends of mine that have actually been raped.
What does 'girlhood is invasive' even mean? Are you doing the encroaching, or are you being encroached upon? Is it the mere concept of being a child?
You are not obligated to use tampons, alternate methods exist (pads, period underwear, diva cups, etc). I'm assuming by 'fingers' you are leaning into being sexually assaulted (which again is not an inherent part of being a young girl)? People are going to make comments that make you uncomfortable or upset you, and not all of them are going to be sexual. Self advocate, enforce boundaries, and avoid people that make you uncomfortable.
This isn't part of 'girlhood', this is a symptom of trauma.
There really isn't an easy way to tackle this, because a situation like this has so many moving parts and missing context and there are a million and one different ways this could turn out with one or both parties being in the wrong. However proper sexual education and classes on things like birth control, consent, and self advocacy would solve so many of these cases.
Again, men can and have been also touched and groped inappropriately without their consent. Speculums and doctor's offices are part of being a healthy person. Your obgyn using a speculum during any number of procedures isn't for their own sick sense of pleasure, it's because it is a tool designed to make treatment easier.
This feels like demonizing medical care. I had extremely heavy cycles. It was almost guaranteed I was going to have an iron deficiency each month. I got cysts. Birth control was an option presented to me (that I originally denied, mind you) that I was allowed to choose or not choose. Ultimately birth control has been one of the best decisions I have ever made for my health. If it's not something you want, you don't have to take it. If it doesn't work for you, you don't have to keep taking it. You are not obligated to take any medicine or treatment you don't want to.
Girlhood is a period of time during which you grow up, nothing more.
Girlhood is a period of time during which you grow up, nothing more.
If trans women feel joy in expressing femininity and find happiness in feminine things, then by God I hope they find the spinniest skirt available and spin until they can't stand anymore. I hope they feel comfortable and safe as their most authentic selves.
Stop demonizing growing up. Stop pretending that being a little girl is inherently traumatic. Stop dramatizing being young. This is real life, not a season of Degrassi or Pretty Little Liars or whatever other youth drama.

The Avengers (Avengers Assemble)
Tumblr media
So it took me a week to finish watching The Avengers.
It wasn't the movie's fault. It's a great film, especially if you are into the action-packed, fighting scenes. The dynamic between characters is great, and it has one of (if not my absolute) favorite quotes of the series.
But it is 2 hours and 23 minutes long and I had a weird week in terms of work, plus I wasn't actually feeling like watching a bunch of fight scenes. So it took a hot minute. Also, I had just finished season 2 of Loki not that long ago and going back to really bad Loki was a bit hard. He has few if any redeemable qualities in this one.
I'm not going to attempt a standard review given my less than standard watching procedure. I'm just going to call out things I liked.
Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow will forever be flipping incredible. In the Battle of New York where she's jumping on the flying Chitari and such- epic. But also her clear care for Barton and her emotional manipulation of both the criminals at the beginning and Loki later on- chef's kiss. I'm so glad she's the one to close the portal.
(Quick side note/small spoiler- there's a fan theory going around that her "feelings" for Banner in Ultron are all fake, just a method of control. I call bullshit. She is clearly fascinated by him throughout this film. If anyone's feelings are fake, it'd be Banner's, but Mark Ruffalo is too genuine for us to ever know.)
Erik Selvig and Barton both under Loki's control and then when they come out of it did incredible jobs. I particularly like the writing of Selvig under Loki's control- the science fascination unbridled, versus any actual desire for power. I think this hits the Tesseract's power and Loki's manipulation abilities dead on- they don't project what Loki would assume others would want onto them- they magnify the worst parts of anyone's desires and abilities. Barton is a master strategist and Selvig wants to understand every aspect of the cosmos. Generally these are traits they've put to good use. But under Loki, they're manipulated into awful acts.
Samuel L. Jackson's line "I recognize the council has made a decision, but as it is a stupid-ass decision, I've elected to ignore it" could be emblazoned on my tombstone and I'd be happy. The delivery was pitch perfect and always makes me laugh, while also being deadly serious.
Coulson- Clark Gregg's best role by far and the small amount of fanboying here just humanized his normally very stoic disposition so well. So glad they did opt to bring him back and in style.
I'm a huge Mark Ruffalo fan, both as an actor and just as a human being. It was incredibly difficult to come in after Edward Norton to fill this role but he nailed it. The moment when he tells about how he tried to commit suicide and the Hulk spat the bullet back out breaks my heart every time. There's obviously a lot of parable here about learning how to channel your anger. I personally think anger has gotten a bad rap, especially among women and activists. Righteous anger, as Starfire might say (yes, I know, I'm daring to mix DC and Marvel again, fight me later), is a powerful motivator. Anger can fuel us to change that which needs changing, but it has to be directed. Hulk shows that well enough. But I also appreciate the slow realization by Banner throughout the film that the Hulk is less crazed, destructive monster and more protector. We're not *there* just yet by the end, there's still some concern, but he's beginning that process of acceptance and understanding.
Captain America is mostly well written here, particularly in demonstrating he doesn't just follow the U.S. or orders blindly any more. He still sees himself as a soldier, but when Tony and Bruce alert him to the smell of fish in the air, he goes looking for answers. This is key character development for him as there was a time where he would have considered himself more bound to higher-ranking officials. However, I would wager Marvel regrets the one "God" comment they made in there as it doesn't really fit him overall.
Stark and Thor perform well, I just don't have a lot of commentary for either. Their rivalry is solid, though the idea that Thor would leave his brother unattended, even in remote mountains, seems unlikely.
I will also argue for more women sooner but that ship has sailed. I had forgotten about Thanos in the post- credits scene, so that was a good addition.
Note for me

♧Some Mr. Osomatsu Headcanons!♧
I've only just started season two, so it may be a little early to put out some Headcanons, but ah well. Some general Headcanons as well as some friendship Headcanons on being friends with all the boys!
Part. 1 Part. 2 Part. 3
~
• I know they're all supposedly the same height, but I like the idea of there being just the littlest bit of variation between them. With Karamatsu being the tallest at 5'4ft tall and Todomatsu being the shortest at 5'2ft. The others are all around 5'3ft except for Ichimatsu who would be 5'4ft if he wasn't slouching all the time.
• As you can imagine, it drives Oso a little crazy that even though he's technically the "oldest", he's not the tallest or even second tallest for that matter. The others joke that it's the universe's way of punishing him for being such a bad older brother.
• Where Osomatsu doesn't, I think that Karamatsu takes his role as an older brother seriously, despite nobody else seeming to care. He tries very hard for his brothers and pushes Oso to do so as well, even if the latter is a lost cause.
• This makes it pretty easy for the younger four to take advantage of him if they decide to. Kara relishes the idea of being their cool, older provider and protector, so there's almost nothing they can't get him to do if they ask him right.
• Ichimatsu is an honorary cat boy and he purrs like one under the right circumstances. Giving his head a good rub absolutely melts him, not that he'd ever let anyone close enough to find that out. He probably also lets it slip when he's tired, sick, or otherwise just too out of it to stop himself.
• Jyushi is the only one of his brothers to ever actually see it happen. Only because he's the only one of his brothers that he lets his walls down around, assuming he's too scatterbrained to remember that kind of thing.
• For just that reason, Jyushimatsu is a walking goldmine of all his brothers' secrets at this point. Thankfully for all of them, he's not malicious or wise enough to do anything with that kind of knowledge.
•  Being close friends with all six of them would me more then a little overwhelming. You'd definitely have to have a LOT of patience, especially since early on, if you're even a little nice to them (who am I kidding you don't even have to be nice to them) they'll see you as a potential S/O.
• If you continue to shoot them down, while still trying to maintain a friendship and get them used to the idea of you as an actual person and not just a potential romantic partner, you'll genuinely grow close enough that they mellow out and just be themselves around you. Which unfortunately might be a bad thing because now you get to witness the Matsunos in all their glory, or rather lack thereof.
• There's still definitely something there since, oh no, technically your plan backfired and you showed them what it's like to be cared about by someone outside of their family, so now they're all actually in love with you, but you're also the first friend in ages they've cared about like family so they try to keep their feelings mostly hidden from now on. Agreeing that if anything is going to happen, it will be your decision. There's an awful lot of infighting for your attention though.
• Osomatsu and Todomatsu still shamelessly flirt but play it off like a joke, much to the annoyance of the other; especially if you decide to play along sometimes.
• While Ichimatsu has a habit of making self-destructive and otherwise worrying comments about himself; when he hears someone he genuinely cares about making comments like that, he doesn't like it very much.
• After dragging himself across the room to leer over you with a scowl:
"Don't do that."
"Huh?"
"Don't.Do.That. I'm allowed to say things like that. You're not."
• Despite his usual, selfish attitude, out of all the brothers, Osomatsu is the best at actively cheering people up. His methods are pretty simple, throwing out stupid jokes or pulling the person along with him to do something to distract them, but his chill nature is actually comforting when he decides to use it for good, and he can be pretty funny when he's not being gross.
• He'll claim he only goes out of his way to help because they were bringing down the mood, but he actually really dislikes seeing other people upset, and that little bit of empathy is just enough to get him off his butt to do something about it.
• Cheering people up also happens to be one of the only things he considers himself good at and he feels like he has over his brothers. Not that it's something he'd brag about, it's more like a personal accomplishment to him. I guess you could say he feels pretty proud when he finally gets a smile out of someone who would otherwise be upset without his efforts.

Season 3 episode 2 reaction babyyyy!! Part 1 (i hope of 2)
I will just go straight into this, AH
NO ARE WE STARTING WITH THIS SCENE!? FUCK YOU, I CAN'T HOLD BACK TEARS FROM KING'S FINAL WORDS ANYMORE
Lilith using hooty as a form of jetpack is making me laugh, I am sorry. BUT LILITH I AM SO GLAD YOU ARE OKAY, I love you dearly YOU TOO HOOTY. God what a way to start the episode. I assume it will be the counter pov to the Human Realm. So I think it will be Eda, King, Collector, Lilith and Hooty pov? OO that's fun! And it will have ep3 as the final, both sides reunited?
HOOTY NO! LILITH! COLLECTOR KIDDO, NOT COOL, DON'T DO THAT, GODDDDDD WHERE DID YOU PUT THEM!?
RAINE IS ALIVE! Hallelujah! I was getting worried they would die because they used their last bit of energy saving Eda, BUT EDA AND RAINE LIVE ON!
HARPY EDA IS BACK LADIES, GENTLEMEN AND OTHER GUESTS! SHE IS BACK AND RAINE IS SMITTEN!
God no, the curse, shit, well nobody thinks to plan emergency potions when the world IS LITERALLY BEING RIPPED APART, fair enough
Oh woah, Luz is in this episode, huh, well that's funky! Well there goes my idea, but damn, I am excited. MAYBE TIME WORKS DIFFERENTLY IN DIFFERENT REALMS, oo
"This Mama is hungry for vengeance!" "Now THAT is a fight I'd watch" took the words out of my mouth Gus, HELL YEAH, GO KICK BELOS' BUTT CAMILA
.....Okay, LISTEN, "The collector is evil blah blah" YEAH, well, maybe not, BUT THEY HAVE DONE BAD ACTIONS... However this version of bonesborough looks cool! Well, not cool, maybe nostalgic? Reminds me of children's lullabies, SO I LIKE IT!
Turning people into dolls tho, that's bad
Belos! Always lovely to see your.... slimey, gross, figure! But lets not kill innocent butterflies, alright pal? And damn, you get hallucinations of your brother? Also this feels like common sense BUT DON'T CLONE YOUR BROTHER WHO YOU MIGHT HAVE KILLED?! LIKE THAT DAGGER LOOKS VERY LIKE YOU KILLED HIM WITH IT PHILIP!
My guy starts melting and says "I need a new body", like just deal with it, humans only get 1 body, stop getting several! Leave some for the rest of us. damn.
Camila, Gus and Willow just having a conversation trying to find the best way to support Luz awakened something inside of me, especially the "He wasn't disappointed in me, but I didn't want to fail him" LIKE DAMN, WHO IS SPYING ON MY LIFE TO MAKE THIS TOO DAMN RELATABLE
"Don't worry about me, like Gus said, I'm the reliable one" 1) AGAIN, WHO IS SPYING ON ME and 2) I have heard that one before Willow AND I KNOW YOU ARE 1 MORE "Are you okay?" AWAY FROM SOBBING, its okay Willow bestie, you can cry too
I hope we find out what Luz's Palisman hatches too soon, I am wayyyyyyyy too impatient for this, I AM DESPERATE
THEY GOT MATCHING JUMPERS AND HOOTY GOT A MATCHING BOWTIE?! FUCKKKKKK, nobody touch me, I am sensitive right now, GOD this found family is so important to me!!
"I will find Eda and King, no matter how long it takes" "ITS EDA AND KING" fucking hell Hunter way to ruin the adventure (/j) (Yes I did start laughing when Hunter said that)
..........Okay, erm. Well. Collector. I see what you have done. And, I question your methods! As this feels like, idk, maybe a tad illegal and morally wrong? Idk though might be wrong, but turning people into dolls is erm.. less quirky and more, wrong.
......................Okay. Right. I DON'T THINK MASS CONTROLLING EVERYONE TO PLAY PRETEND WHILST YOU BE A HERO IS VERY MORALLY GOOD EITHER! Listen, I get the urge to play hero and so and so, I did that as a kid! WITH DOLLS! WHO WERE ALWAYS, DOLLS! NOT HUMANS! God, you truly are a kid, you would be like, 5 in the human realm. WHERE IS YOUR MUM!?! DAD?! PARENTS?!
Fucking Plant Lady Coven head having to play Eda and (seems to be) the only one not controlled by the Collector and not be a doll, is fucking hilarious, 10/10
"Eda has a more, cool-aunt vibe, who pretends to be all cold-hearted but actually cares a lot" SEE, THANK YOU COLLECTOR, THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING SINCE DAY 1
Oh! Well. Most directors when they don't like the actors just fire them, but you do you Collector!
CAMILA ALSO JUST LOOKING AT KING AND LOVING HIM IS SO REAL, I adore him too Camila, don't you worry
WOAH ALL THE STUDENTS ARE OKAY?! Damn. That's one good school. Well, apart from the 2 that didn't. And all the staff went. BUT STILL, poor kids though. THEY ARE JUST KIDS. Also damn, we start to like Bump and that poor guy hasn't had a break since
...I don't even want to talk about that "man-tholomule" joke
THE BUMP STATUE IS THE GREATEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN, 10/10 Bump and Eda would approve, "Princy Bump"
ED MY PAL, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU, "not empty! There were rocks at the bottom!" God I missed you Ed
Talk about being haunted by your past, damn Belos, you've killed a lot of people bro, oh and "Oh shut up!" IS NOT A GOOD RESPONCE TO SEEING THE GHOSTS OF WHO YOU HAVE KILLED. it is funny tho.
AMITY'S MUM!? WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE. God, you really have 0 morals huh. YOU ARE ACTING AS THE COLLECTOR'S MUM!?! Listen I know your kids hate you BUT YOU DIDN'T NEED TO REPLACE THEM WITH A BEING WHO IS TRYING TO DESTROY ALL WITCHES IN A WEIRD WAY!
"Clean the planet and scorch the air" Well that might be useful later!
I will ignore ALL of the corruption happening at Hexside right now BUT HOOTY! AND RAINE! AND EDA! AND DARIUS! AND- Yeah I'll stop now BUT YEAH
EDA THANK GOD YOU AREN'T A WEIRD DOLL, and sweetie, I get wanting to visit your partner BUT YOU'VE GOTTA STAY SAFE! All the coven heads (except plant lady) Being weird security now? Kinda cool! Confusing, but cool!
WOAH LILITH! WHAT HAPPENED TO BEING A DOLL?!... And no longer being ginger, and having long hair? I am very confused BUT HAPPY YOU AREN'T A DOLL!
....Okay I know they are probably comedic relief BUT LILITH AND HOOTY'S FRIENDSHIP IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO ME OKAY!
"With her real family" HUSH EDA, YOU ARE APART OF THAT REAL FAMILY
"You are actually a great leader" "Did you have ever have any doubt in your mind?" "Yes. Many many doubts" fucking mood Gus, you always get the greatest lines. I am stealing this
WOAH BELOS MY PAL, I get that your "grow your own clone" guy wasn't ready yet, BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN YOU STEAL RAINE'S BODY YOU PRICK
.....Don't say that about Flapjack HE IS STILL ALIVE, HE WILL MAKE IT.... RIGHT?!
I knew you were 1 step away from a breakdown Willow, I have been on that path don't you worry
AND I JUST REALISED I WENT OVER HALF THE EPISODE AND THIS IS A REALLY LONG POST SO, part 2 in like, half an hour

I played s3 of the twdg and I am way late to the party
But I don't feel bad for David or guilty for taking his wife! Sorry! I don't condone cheating at all under 99% of circumstances, but when a character thinks their spouse has been dead for half a decade, and they were already in a loveless, bordering on abusive marriage, I don't have any problem with them doing the romance shit with the more well adjusted, non abusive brother of said spouse
David was a dick to everyone. He took his insecurities and frustrations out on everyone and flipped at the smallest thing. It didn't help that no matter how understanding or kind you are to him, he always turns on you
Chosing him to save just perpetuates a toxic cycle at the end of the game
And I like Kate a whole lot more than I like him. At least she tried to be a good person and stick a lot of situations she didn't like, out
And I'm convinced that David wanted to sign himself up for the army again because he could see his patience and want for that family slipping day by day and, the patience for his life in general
He was gonna abandon his family and dress it up as a noble choice. And if there was no zombie apocalypse he would've done it after the father died of cancer, a short while later I think
Because if he didn't things between him and Kate would've turned all "domestic violence" and abusive
More than they already were
Because yelling at your partner after they accidentally drop a cup and get hurt by it. Acting like she dropped it on purpose when she was clearly bleeding and only calming down quick enough depending on Javi's intervention methods
I read that as a buffer and a taster of what would be to come later down the road in their relationship
He wouldn't have hit her in that stage of the marriage, but he can't control his rage for real and yeah.
Kate and Javi suit each other better. Javi isn't an abusive dickhead, he has endless patience for Gabes teenage angst and trauma most of the time and usually has to assume the position to placate David
Kate and Javi were chill with eachother and S3 wasn't perfect or even marvellous but it's not as flat as people call it. It just reads like people being angry they can't play as clementine
They're forgetting they played as Lee in the first season, and while Javi and Lee aren't comparable, I do appreciate what you get to do for clementine in this game but I'm getting off track.
Fuck David. He's a piece of shit and his daughter thought to hide under the table when her grandfather turned for a reason. He doesn't deserve Kate, or much even, and he didn't look for them after the outbreak so he has no claim to his "family" at all

SORRY in advance for the long ask pleeease take your time and take care, I hope you feel better + get to have a good time at the con or hanging out with your dad :( It means the world to me that you enjoy my stuff though! It did take me a while to notice you were even following me (hence. @ing you on a post you'd already seen gdjfshld) but we got there eventually...
Definitely definitely was expecting to see more of Infinite Wealth at the summit… since the tweets mentioned character introductions but didn't specify for which game, I was under the impression we'd at least be introduced to the as-yet-unidentified voices in the trailer. Gameplay would've been HUGE to include too 😩 I guess it makes enough sense though, since it's not The Upcoming Release...
I shall bide my time. I have no idea what to expect from fall summit (as intended). But if it's going to be a seasonal thing, I figure a potential "winter summit" is the latest it could be to show us gameplay for something that's suppsed to be an early 2024 release, if not just putting out trailers or other showcases and stuff independently.
LEGIT THOUGH IT JUST MAKES IT SOUND LIKE KIRYU IS LYING TO SOUND COOL GDJSKGLDS which is also Arakawa-esque… "maybe I felt like impressing an idiot kid"… If nothing else, I feel like I'll enjoy the dynamic they're going for with those two. Specifically casting Kiryu as a "big brother" figure rather than a father figure also makes me WEEP because the only "aniki" Ichi's ever had is Jo. So it's like... from Jo to Joryu...
Also I just really like the acting choices by the mocap actor for Kiryu, I feel like we've never really seen him move that… casually? His mannerisms also 100% make him look like he's lying lol like there are multiple "tells" it's so funny
I glossed over the proposal (because I expected that to be the main topic anyway, being the only dialogue scene we got) but I completely agree with everything that's been said, basically. Reverse chick magnet for life… but I do expect there's more to it than meets the eye because summit is pretty focused on "generating buzz," so the fact it feels so out of place is probably what they were banking on.
Because like, on top of everything mentioned, Ichiban is portrayed as an entirely passive participant in the romances in 7, and IIRC for Saeko and Eri he wasn't really even fully aware they were into him. So for him to not only be the one to propose but bomb so hard a seasoned hostess (as Kiryu points out in JP)--who'd rather be groped than subjected to Weird Shit--blew up at him and there was fallout from Adachi and Nanba is a huge deviation from how he's portrayed.
It's also kind of like, to me, the translation says something a little different than what was actually being said; Ichi's emphasis wasn't really on the fact she rejected him (implying he expected her to accept + placing more importance on his own feelings vs hers), but the fact she "chewed him out" (implying he should've known better in the first place than to ask).
Of course, he's apparently planning on trying again so he is hoping she'll accept eventually, and the general tone of the interaction suggests he should've known better regardless, but both say something slightly different about his characterization in this scene to me. There's also TL weirdness with Ichi saying Kiryu seems like a good dude rather than just… him explaining that he doesn't mean anything bad by saying he doesn't seem like a ladies' man, which is a bigger mistake but less consequential, I guess.
There's also Saeko's line from the original teaser, "You say that like you're proposing," so it would seem she's already caught off guard (i.e. not taking it seriously yet) and not too thrilled with the idea (provided it's the same convo). I don't really have much to go off of, but if they are in a relationship, I can only assume either she's made it clear she doesn't want to get married or his proposal method was just That Bad, or they're not in a relationship.
In the latter case all I have to pull from is other media with characters who are somewhat like Ichi, but it made me think of times I've seen characters propose for legal or financial reasons or etc. and get Totally Owned, and I'd honestly find that a believable Ichi Situation… Ichi thinking like 50 steps ahead and not explaining himself properly and just Making Saeko More Mad… I'm just musing, though.
Yokoyama and co. were--if I heard right--being pretty cagey about whether they ARE in a relationship in the first place though, which strikes me as odd compared to RGGS' openness about Kaito's ex in the Lost Judgment DLC. So… definitely not beating the red herring allegations just yet, at any rate. Especially when said DLC involves a fake-out on a proposal lmao
Putting all that aside since we can't make any definitive statements anyway, I AM going to make the definitive statement that literally every single design in Gaiden so far is indeed drippy as hell.
such is the cruel fate of being shadowbanned on this webbed site I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream etc etc ( ╯-╰ ; ) but we did get there! and i very much do enjoy what you post :]
if there's nothing for fall summit (though i'm going to hope a lil there will be since that's what. three months from now) then there'll definitely be something for winter summit. if the idea is that there's more of a focus on gaiden since its release date is sooner, then it's fair to assume- with that logic- the winter one'll have the bulk of LAD8 news and demos. either way, im excited for both to see what both of them bring us !
ignoring the elephant in the room of the proposal thing, i also really liked the vibe of it all (and ive also been trying reeaaally hard to make a joke connecting jo and joryu since that's also a bit i enjoy) (❁´◡`❁) i did like that lowkey feel and just the casualness of the atmosphere and the slight awkward/uncomfortable-but-not-overly-offended-and-even-minorly-comedic energy from kiryu lmao. cant ever go wrong with having a scene that's there to slow everythin down a bit, and it does help set up a kind of homely/familial vibe ♪(´▽`)
i dont need to comment any more on the proposal thing either LMAO everything ima say i been repeating for the past. X asks 😩
and with that. yeah everyone looks FIRE as hell in gaiden (EXCEPT nishitani ima be 100%.... idk the loud primary colors aren't doing it for me.... points for the nails and hair though) 😩
#long post#snap chats#laying down when youre gloomy is dangerous i passed out despite really hating naps jLAEKJ#my dad texted me today saying we wouldn't be able to hang out and i was reminded to answer this ask gjVLKJLKWEJ#needless to say im still not having the best of days. or months apparently ☠️ but moving on from all that#uhh. yeah no i think i said everything i need to say#im pushing my brain to think of anything to say im really out of it#i know if i dont do it now tho i never will cause when i shirk somethin its virtually nonexistent in my mind ajrLKjVLK#at the very least the 'ladies man' comment is definitely not. 'less consequential' if twitter is anything to say LMAO#mostly just jokes of course ik ik For Real Non Consequential but my eyes are still seeing it every other post SO.#on that note. i forgot my personal rule of not commenting on scripts OH NO#i dont understand japanese and at this point i cant trust what english translators provide and evidently the differences can be big#sooo im just gonna. eat shit i guess LMAO IDK#i already done said i have no more notes bout the proposal bit and i dont#i can just say Yeah Thats About Right when it comes to agreeing with whats been said#just feels underwhelming to only say that tho.... but theres no other way i can say it without restating#i myself just feel underwhelming as of late but thats a personal ish jALKJKLJ#in any case my dad said he'd send me pizza money as an apology or something and tbh ive been craving pizza all week anyway for some reason#even if he doesnt i might just get a small pizza for myself and then only eat a third of it cause my stomach's the size of a peanut

My Thoughts on The Boys Season Finale
SPOILERS!!!
LOVED the finale!!! I'll sum up my thoughts by character alphabetically:
Annie: YAY! She's officially part of the team and now she and Hughie can be closer together! LOVED when she rose up into the air thanks to the power boost from Hughie! It was also good to see her shake off the person her mom forced her to be and now she can be who SHE wants to be!
Ashley: I feel bad. She's selfish and power-hungry but she's also running herself ragged serving Homelander. Good for her for deleting the footage of Maeve tho!
A-Train: It was sad to see his brother reject him like that but I completely understand his anger. It is kind of his fault. Question tho: was his brother not aware that he's killed people before i.e. Robin or did he just assume it was "collateral damage" and didn't realize how messed up that is until now? (It's possible he found justifications in his head or forgave A-Train because he's his brother.) Wonder what he'll do next season-hopefully work towards redeeming himself but I have my doubts.
Butcher: Yikes. I don't think he's really gonna die but we'll see. Maybe what happened with Ryan will finally show him you can't keep being cruel to people because not everyone wants to be treated like that. His method of preventing Hughie from killing himself is pretty on brand for him tho. He doesn't know how to get his point across without violence and he can't emotionally connect with people unless he puts them on a pedestal.
Frenchie: Good for him telling Butcher to fuck off! AND they need a dental plan! He and Kimiko are adorable! I'm glad he didn't die. I have a feeling we'll see Little Nina again...
Homelander: Fuck. This. Guy! I didn't think they would take him down because then a large part of the show is over-plus he could always just take more V. I want to scream at him "get away from that child!" every time he's with Ryan! Also fuck Todd!
Hughie: I loved that he didn't end up taking the Temp-V and realized that Annie can take care of things on her own. She just needs a little boost sometimes and he can be that support, but she doesn't need him to do things for her. And he was so proud of her! Also him helping evacuate people meant he was able to be a hero even without powers. And it ultimately reinforced what a good person he is. I also liked his monolog about his dad. He was the one who stayed! Raising a kid when you're dealing with heartbreak like that is not easy but he did it because he loves him!
Kimiko: Her dancing to "Maniac" and absolutely wrecking those dudes was very sexy of her! Like I said with Frenchie-they're so cute. Also good for her for slapping some sense into Frenchie! It's good to see them support each other tho!
Maeve: SO GLAD they didn't kill her! And I was SO HAPPY to see Elena back. Now Maeve is free! Also noticed how they called her a lesbian again in her memorial so good commentary that.
MM: I'm happy he realized his father's efforts weren't for nothing and he was still a hero for trying even though it was an unwinnable battle. He just has to make sure he doesn't forget about his family-which I know he won't because he loves Janine so much!
Neuman: Is her daughter okay?! I love that they're playing the long game with her tho. Hope she gets upped to main villain next season!
Noir: I'm heartbroken! There is a chance he could still be alive since we didn't see the world mourning him like they did Maeve and he's survived fucked up shit before.
Ryan: I'm worried! The whole time I kept screaming "someone take him out of the building!" Leave the poor kid alone!
Soldier Boy: Not surprised they didn't kill him off. They might want to use him again...
The Deep: He was just doing his own thing, on his failboy shit. Since he killed the almost VP he might feature more into the plot of next season so we'll see.
The finale was great, I'm happy with how everything came together, now hurry up and make season 4!

life has a way of making it impossible for me to get things done in a timely manner
anyway, here's what i thought about snc's fourth season 2 video
aka "The Demon on Goatman's Bridge (w/ KallmeKris)"
ngl, i did not have high hopes for this video. after the previous one, i was kinda against watching anything to do with kris or celina. but this one was surprisingly really good. like, maybe the best so far, honestly. it's definitely up there for me. i think i was also surprised to like this video bc i don't like when snc go to forests as locations bc to me, they aren't scary. what's in the forest is, but if you're prepared and know what animals you might encounter, than it's not as scary. forests aren't paranormal scary to me, if that makes any sense.
i think the reason this one did so well if bc it included all the things you need to make a video legitimately scary: back story, lore, devices going off, secret portal to hell, and just overall creepy vibes.
i took some notes/reactions during the video, so i'm just gonna list them here :)
colby looks so hot omg
gonna be honest, i hate sam's sweatshirt. on my life i hate the exorcist. i hate it so much. it scares the shit out of me (that being said, he also looks hot too lol)
i'm sorry… but i don't believe in the possession part. sorry.
also the male tour guide… i love him and his accent and his dog so much lol
aye yo fuck steve
"would it be bad to bring a dog with us to haunted places? comment down below if you would cancel us on twitter" lmaoooo COLBY
i'm sorry but anything that is surrounded by forest, i'm just gonna immediately assume it's an animal and not paranormal. also, animals 1000% can still be living right off the side of a highway. why you think deer get hit all the time???
celina's dream is definitely weird. for sure.
"i love you. why did i say that?" lol
the amount of bugs in this video. no thanks
kris feeling a lot more than snc… all that makes me think is that she is just way too open and needs to close some channels off or that the spirits in the last two locations just like women more
idk why but i don't believe in the ovulus for some reason. it just… never makes sense.
the scratch on sam's back… strange for sure.
the stuff they sorta got at the ouija board was interesting. i guess.
them recreating a car to do the ritual…..i hate them so much lmao
that scream???? fuck no baby. either someone got murdered, someone's fucking with them, or it's a fox.
THE CANDLES BLOWING OUT IS SO WEIRD
i did not like sam being that close to that tree
also i hate when they do the estes method and it says their names… big oof no thanks
okay so overall i would rate this video 4.3/5. i genuinely enjoyed this video the whole time. i think it had the right amount of everything i would want for a video to feel spooky in it. it's not a five only bc i think some parts of the investigation felt a little less than interesting, but was still cool nonetheless. i just finished watching the newest episode from them and… honestly, i'm speechless.

Hey, I'm the anon who sent in that ask asking you to explain about the Slappy shanking post, and I just wanted to thank you for answering my ask, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who's thought about what he's like in a fight XD
Until I saw that post, I always figured he would have to be one of those people you don't want to run into after dark or down an abandoned alleyway (especially if you owe Nosferatu something/have wronged Nosferatu in some way) if only because while he may not be outwardly malicious towards people, he still seems like the kind of guy that could easily make me disappear after kicking my ass :(
At least now I know to warn my friends not to accept his dinner invites should I go missing in advance lol
Helloooo!! Hiii! I loved your ask. Its always fun to ramble on about headcanons for slappy or hear some from others!
I've thought about Slappy and how would he fight. When I first saw Stair Wars it only confirmed to me that even when he has the opportunity to fight, he figures out a less violent and more obscure way of handling conflicts. He's very passive. Slappy is pretty disliked amongst bikini bottomites so he has every opportunity to retaliate. He just doesn't and he doesn't care to. Even with the kids picking on him in Terror at 20,000 leagues. He purposely chose to scare them in the least harmless way possible.
At most I think he'd take pleasure in folks being creeped out by him or he'd just hold a passive aggressive smile and quietly accept things (like the he did in the mid season finale when grandpat and granny tentacles were making fun of his poem)
If he absolutely has to fight then you know you wouldn't see it. I imagine he'd handle things quietly. Even when he has the opportunity to fight, he chooses a non-violent method in order to win. I can assume he just doesn't want to get his hands dirty. He's wearing a very nice suit after all. I don't think he wants to pay extra at the dry cleaners to get blood stains off of it.
I'm pretty sure slappy can get away with murder pretty easily in bikini bottom if he was to kill. The cops are too incompetent and there's plenty of characters in the show who have a kill count. But I'd rather think that while you can suspect him, there's just never enough proof to conclude it's him. You have a bad feeling about him and nothing more.
Slappy is different from other Peter Parodies. They usually are maniacal weirdos with an insatiable bloodlust. I do want to keep Slappy different. Him just being a seemingly harmless weirdo who usually minds his business or wants to join in whenever he sees something fun. I don't want to go too far with making him more murderous.
Still I think you'd be safe. One thing that's notable about Slappy is that he does try to help whenever he can. He tried applying for a job as an intern for the patrick show, he joined in the stair wars, he took the job managing the phone for the pat-a-thon. I've always sorta headcanoned that he considers SB and Patrick as his ""friends"" they are the only folks who dont seem to be actively mean to him which for him is kindness.
I'm assuming it's a similar case with Nosferatu. And for his friends, he'd do anything for them. Probably even murder <3 but don't worry. I think if you aren't actively mean to his friends then you don't need to worry about him ending you. He can tolerate if you are being mean to him but his friends? Now that's a punishable offense. You might not show up for work the next day. There is no body to conclude what really happened to you.
Anyways I doubt you'd beef with any of them so a walk in a dark alley way with Slappy is absolutely safe. He might try to creep you out by telling stories of murders and stuff that has happened in this alley way but for me that just sounds like a dream💖 if he does decide to kill me then I'd simply thank him <3 with a face like that he could get away with anything. He's too adorable to be guilty <3 even if he did actually commit the crime💕
Jokes aside this convo doesn't include cannibalism. That's a whole different can of worms.
He is a vampire's minion. All other vampire minions like Renfield for example eat bugs and whatever and slowly move up the food chain. Slappy is kinda gluttonous. Who's to say he wouldn't think of eating one of his own kind? Like that Peter Parody Mr. Sydney who was obsessed with finding "a new taste sensation". It's also an effective way of getting rid of evidence hence why you shouldn't accept a dinner invite from him. But would he actually do it? Possibly. Or maybe he likes fucking with you and his jokes about cannibalism get a little too close to comfort. You can never be sure if he really means it or not.

10 people you want to know better
tagged by @hadrianspaywall
Relationship status: @thecygnetcommittee , who should also feel invited to do this if she feels like it c:
Favorite color: Burgundy
Favorite food: Artichokes
Song stuck in your head: After a brief hiatus, Pray for the Pain You Serve by Gary Numan is back in there, it's been there since januay please help help hep help
Last thing gogled: 'arctic mosquitos' because while we don't live in the worst of all possible worlds, there are days when it seems like we've gotta be in the bottom 10% for sure
Time: 11:21pm
Dream trip: One time my middle sister casually mentioned the time I went to the Great Wall of China, which was surpsising to me since I've never been to Asia at all. She spent years telling everyone about it, she wou ld go up to my friends and try to make them admit they knew about my secret trip, and I just never knew how to respond to these accusations. She later admitted that it was just a dream she'd had, but didn't realize it until after she'd told me about it and for some reason decided to double down. Her thought processes are very interesting.
Last book read: Authority by Jeff Vandermeer again. If I like a book, I don't stop reading it until it crumbles into dust.
Last book enjoyed: Since saying the same book twice would be a cop-out, Solaris by Stanislaw Lem.
Last book hated: I'm going to assume this only counts for books I finished reading, it doesn't count if you can't finish the first chapter. So, the last book I hated but was able to power through: Perdido Street Station by China Mieville. It was original, and it had some interesting stuff that I would have liked to see developed, but I wanted to beat the man to death the entire time. It should have been written by someone with less of an eccentricity boner. Yes, China, you're very cute, very quirky, but there is such a thing as trying to hard.
-Now, I have been averaging 4 hours of sleep a night for the last several weeks and am fasing fast, so I'm going to pick a few random questions instead of the full set-
Favorite thing to cook: braised short ribs, which is also like the one thing I make that turns out well 100% of the time. I fuck up ramen more often than I fuck up short ribs (bad water to seasoning ratio)
Niche dislike: I feel like I probably wouldn't clock my most niche dislike as being niche in the first place? But of the ones I've been informed are weird, I think that '30 days hath September' mnemonic for teaching kids the number of days in a month is the most stupid fucking way to impart that information imaginable. It rolls off the tongue like a brick and sticks to the mind like mercury. Harder to memorize than just a list of months, vastly inferior to the knuckle method, 2/10.
Opinion on circuses: If there's no chance I'll see someone crushed by a chariot then I am simply not going.
Sense of direction/worst way you've ever been lost: In May I parked a block and a half away from the library to get my new card. I spent, without exaggeration, approximately an hour trying to find my car again. I would get lost in my bedroom if you spun me around and turned out the lights.
Tagging: Any/everyone who feels like it! @ me so I see it c:

sorry this is so many: 4, 5, 7, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 21, 23, 28.
4. mythical creature you think/believe is real?
Honestly, I like believing as many are real as I can, just makes life more fun tbh
5. favorite form of potato?
I'm a real big fan of any form that's fried and salted/seasoned, where it's crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Whether it's potato wedges, French fries, hash browns, or whatever, that's what takes the cake for me personally
7. what animal do you look forward to seeing when you visit an aquarium?
I've answered this one already, sorry!
13. first thing you’re doing in the purge?
Checking in with my friends, making sure they're alright. Then we'd probably band together to steal food as a squad lmao
14. do you think you’re dehydrated?
Asks that make you immediately stand up to get a glass of water
15. rank the methods of death: freezing, burning, drowning
I'd say drowning would be #1, because the surface of the ocean is really pretty from below, and because hey, would at least end up as nourishment for some fish, so it's like, relatively macabre recycling, almost
#2 goes to burning, I've only really been on fire once but it was a really neat feeling (underneath the pain obviously) and idk there'd probably be one single funky moment where you'd get to feel like Ghost Rider
#3 Goes to freezing, which I'm assuming is probably the least painful of the 3, but idk it also just feels kind of quiet and makes me feel sad to think about
16. thoughts on mint chocolate chip?
It's not bad! Not really my absolute favourite but it's not like I'd ever turn it down if it were offered to me
17. an anxious compulsion you do everyday?
Idk whenever I'm anxious body's just like "we cannot have any air in our lungs" and idk why but there's a weird little exhale thing I do and idk what it's called but it's that
19. the veggie you dislike the most?
Asparagus, I don't really have any reason more than I'm just not a fan of how it tastes
21. a number that weirds you out?
88 was my favourite number when I was in like elementary school (it had FOUR circles and I thought that was SO cool when I was a kid) and man it sure was a shock to learn it had certain connotations that I didn't know about much later in life lmao
Either that or 241543903. Like what was up with that
23. do you wear jewelry?
God, I wish. All the jewelry I have irritates my skin and makes it hard for me to wear for long periods of time, which sucks because I do love the aesthetic and wish I could wear more 😔
28. last meal on earth?
I don't know tbh, I'd probably ask for spaghetti though, I am a huge slut for angel hair pasta specifically

so. i did a think. i had a thought even. i pondered and wondered. anyways.
crowley and aziraphale need therapy so goddamn bad
also this comes from me vaguely remembering season 1 and just having overall the memory of a goldfish. so this might be an awful awful take.
they both don't talk to eachother, they dont have actual discussion most of the time except when its hell and heaven trying to murder their asses. any move they take without consulting the other is inherently based only on their feelings and thoughts.
when crowley snapped at aziraphale for wanting to be an archangel or wtv, and he started talking about how they could run away, i see it as stemming from him being kicked out from heaven and seeing them trying to kill aziraphale, and running away is also what he tried to do in the first season (if i remember correctly). it's not something that, as far as i'm aware, at least, has been really talked about in-between them. i don't think we know what really happens when an angel falls, and seeing how ruthless both heaven and hell can be about 'punishing' people, it probably wasn't very pleasant. aziraphale still doesn't know he could've been killed for protecting jim-james-gabriel, or at the very least, he doesn't know how the other angels reacted at his execution. and while the idea of them running away has been touched before, i feel like it's not been seen as an actual possibility for them rather than a divide.
similarly, aziraphale spent thousands of years standing by and being conflicted about heaven's methods and overall morals. of course, he'd want to fix it if he can. it could let him fix what's wrong with what's Good, it could let him protect humanity and other angels. and, most likely, it could make it 'worthy' of crowley again. but again, he's doing that without having all of the information. he doesn't seem to know the full extent to which heaven would go to punish people, namely erasing them from goddamn reality, assuming that they didn't talk about it off screen or that i didnt miss it, he doesn't know exactly what happens when an angel falls and, by extention, probably doesn't fully understand crowley's disdain for heaven.
i also want to add that i think aziraphale doesn't communicate his intentions well. the way i, and apparently a bunch of people, interpreted his 'speech' at first was that he kept faith in heaven and wanted to fix it for its own sake or as an extension of him being overly naive and forgiving. and that's from us having an outside perspective on the whole situation. it would make sense for crowley to feel betrayed after that.
it would also make sense for angel to feel betrayed or upset after what happened. as far as he's concerned, he's trying to make things better, to stop what happened to jim or crowley from happening again, but crowley would rather fuck off to god knows where.
that's not saying that they're not conflicted, of course. but goddamn are they bad at talking.
(also, i was rewatching the scene, and crowley says he "understands the situation a lot more than [aziraphale] does," AND YEA, YOU DO. YOU'RE NOT SHARING ALL THE INFORMATION YOU IDIOT)
i think it's great character development, and I'm a whore for drama so of course I'm all here for it. what does scare me a bit is that we get so caught up in who's right and who's wrong to enjoy the actual dilemma that's there.
then again, i am so inactive in here, maybe everyone already made knows what im saying and i am just painfully slow (which honeslty might be the case)
anyways yea they're pissing me off just talk but also that's great writing, i cried

Once again, @iinchicore was very kindly to translate an article for me. This is the interview with Till and Joey in MetalHammer (January 2021). The boys tell about their journey in the Amazon and their future projects together.
A big thank you, lots of kisses and a big hug to @iinchicore ♡
Till Lindemann & Joey Kelly : Friendship Without Limits
Tumblr media
MetalHammer: How did the preparations for this journey differ in comparison to your Yukon trip?
Joey Kelly: We took along different equipment. While riding on the Yukon we used sturdy Canadian kayaks, which we couldn't find in Colombia. So we took along our own foldable 15 kilogramme kayak. Due to the climate, our choice of clothing was also different. Besides, the Amazon is much more dangerous than Alaska. There are many dangerous animals, small and big ones. You can find snakes, crocodiles and piranhas, which is why you shouldn't bathe in the river. You have to move differently on the Amazon than on the Yukon, where you only have to keep your distance to bears and elks. Amazonia is a jungle, where only those animals survive who eat the others.
Your first river journey led you to the Yukon, now you travelled on the Amazon. Was there a reason for why you picked that river exactly?
Till Lindemann: We were considering to travel along the Chinese Yangtze or the Lena in Russia, Siberia. Siberia was my favourite, but Joey convinced me to go to the Amazon. We have both been there before and knew a little about how to prepare and what to expect. One thing we knew right away was that, in regard to the nature and people, South America was much more exciting – Siberia looks similar to Alaska. That wouldn't have been all that interesting for our second book. Now the contrast is much greater: Alaska is austere and glum, the Amazon is the exact opposite with an entirely different wildlife and vegetation. Don't forget the wonderful colours of South America!
Any fascinating experiences of nature?
TL: It is really rare to spot an animal in the jungle. You can hear them everywhere, but they hide or are disguised very well. With the help of the local guides we observed snakes, birds, monkeys and a tapir. We saw pink dolphins and watched them do their jumps on the river. Because of their skin-like colour the locals believe they're incarnations of their dead loved ones and worship them.
How did the locals at the river react towards you?
TL: Reluctant, at first. You go to them and, for example, ask whether you can stay the night. They don't really talk much in the beginning, but after a night with a lot of Cachaca they warm up to you. Usually they were interested in our fishing gear. Most of them had never seen something like it, as they were used to fishing with rolled up strings and nets. I was amazed that every village we visited, no matter how remote the location, owned fridges with cold beer, they even had solar energy. Huge satellite dishes to watch football. For three days we visited one particular village. There was a storm, so they allowed us to stay. There was an older guy who had fallen off his stilt house, drunk, and broke his foot. Two young men went to the neighbouring village, a day's journey away, to get the shaman. The man should have belonged to a hospital, but that was entirely out of the question for him. It either heals on its own or it doesn't. We bandaged his foot and supplied him with pain meds. Then we continued drinking.
Did you plan beforehand what you wanted to see during your journey?
TL: Yes, a coca plantation. We knew that they existed there everywhere. At first, it was a lot of back and forth. They were staving us off, but after a lot of endless waiting and our patient agreeing to it, they allowed us to go. Along with two attendants from the village, we paddled down a branch of the Amazon that became narrower over time. A labyrinth of branches we would have never found our way out of. Eventually, we ended up at one of the countless plantations. It wasn't harvest time, however, so the leaves weren't ripe yet. But you could see all the tools for it: mashers, bags, and hundreds of bowls. And a little storage.
Did you try the coca leaves?
TL: Yes. We were on the plantation. They hid the plants below banana trees, so you couldn't see the plantation from the air. I did try a few coca leaves, but there is no sorcery about it. You just stay awake and feel energized. Everybody is chewing on them there, it's like coffee, just ten times stronger.
Did you reach your physical limits during this journey?
TL: The body adjusts to the climate pretty quickly. After three weeks you don't sweat all that much anymore. Even the sun doesn't bother you as much anymore, because you're thoroughly cooked anyway. But the humidity requires getting used to. The people there are handling it very differently. They own to pairs of shorts, two t-shirts and beach slippers, and they walk around like that all day.
JK: The climate there is exhausting, you're sweat-soaked after only three minutes. Personally, I don't mind it, but to people who aren't used to it it's a pain. The route we went on was quite difficult in parts, it was very serpentine. You had to paddle the whole time, you had to steer, then there were shoals or the water became too flat, so we had to relocate the boat.
You didn't capsize though, like it happened to you on the Yukon?
JK: No, the water level during that season was way too low. Later on, when the water comes in from the Andes during the monsoon season, the level rises by 15 metres. It drowns out entire forests.
TL: I was there once during the monsoon season. Back then only the tree tops were peeking out of the water. That's why they build their houses on stilts, so the water doesn't reach them. Many villages are located on mountain tops, as the water level won't rise that high.
Considering the many preparations and daily challenges, did you ever find time to relax during such an extensive journey?
TL: Travelling on the Yukon wasn't stressful, because we were sleeping on the sandbanks. Those experiences made travelling the Amazon even easier. As the sun goes down very early there, our only concern was to make camp before 6PM. Whenever we found a good location we sometimes made camp even earlier than that, instead of travelling on and risking not finding a good spot. That only happened to us once, so we had to sleep in the jungle, which wasn't all that bad either.
With a camp fire and night watch?
TL: A camp fire, yes, but we didn't need a night watch. You have to trust your guide, those guys know what they're doing. Our guide went ahead a couple of metres with a bit of string and, within a few minutes, came back with six piranhas. Then we turned on the grill and ate. Piranhas are really tasty, like giltheads.
Did you gain more respect for nature due to this journey?
TL: I had a great respect for nature before that already. Still, I couldn't hold myself back from taking pictures with snakes. I love snakes, Joey thinks they're scary. (laughs)
What did you learn along the way?
JK: I asked the Indians to teach me how to fish with a cast-net and pulled animals out of the water, which an aquarist would usually pay thousands of euros for. Scalars, discus fish, loricariids, sisorid catfish, catfish in all shapes and sizes.
Here in Europe we read a lot about the fact that these romantic times might be of the past soon, due to the systematic ecocide. Is that what you saw over there?
TL: When you approach Leticia you can make out the slash-and-burn methods used below. We assume that every minute jungle area the size of 1.5 football fields gets cleared, for soy plantations or pasture areas. The search for gold is also devastating for the nature. They use mercury to wash the gold out of rocks and clay. The mercury ends up in the rivers, in the fish, and then inside the people.
JK: The Amazon traverses through the entire continent. It is so broad and deep, there are even bigger ships cruising the river than on our rivers here in Europe. They carry natural resources, mainly wood. You can find a sawmill every couple of kilometres. They carry the tree trunks there and cut them along the length (4m by 1,20m or even 4m). Those planks then get transported either by ship or overland, a systematic deforestation of the Amazon area.
TL: You find a lot of filth in the main stream: huge tree trunks, garbage, bags full of plastic, and a lot of wood waste. It's illegal, but everybody does it. Very obviously, even during the day, nobody cares.
Are the locals not aware of the drastic situation?
JK: The sawmills pay the farmers 250 to 300 euros for one tree trunk. The sawmills sell it for 2.500 euros, and then here in Europe it costs up to 30.000 euros.
TL: As soon as they saw us, the lumbermen turned off their chainsaws and fled into the forest, yelling: “Piss off!” They were afraid that those pictures would be seen by the world. Same thing for the fisheries. Usually, the fish leave the lagoons during the dry season and swim back into the main stream, because the lakes dry out. The law allows it that they cast a net over half of the lake, so that a part of the fish can swim past. Now, the fishermen close off the entire lake, with up to ten nets. No fish can get past that anymore, only the very small ones. They're overexploiting the area high and low. They even steal all the turtle eggs from the clutches. It didn't used to be that way, back then they would leave half of it where it was.
Do you think that could change, if other types of income would replace the exploitation, like tourism?
JK: I don't think that the parts Till and I went to would be suitable for commercial tourism. Let's be honest, the biggest income is ensured by the coca production. You would travel right into a drug area. We could only move around freely there, because the government was taking care of the cartel conflicts at the time. Apparently, the military is now in charge of the coca trade.
TL: Corruption is the order of business. A policeman is earning less than a coca farmer. Thus, bribery and blackmail are commonplace. Almost all of it is illegal: fishing with the many nets, the gold-seeking, the wood clearing and the coca plantation. The areas are huge and hardly controllable. Since president Bolsonaro is in power in Brazil, the clearing business went up by 30 percent. Bolsonaro announced officially that the Amazon is a product, and that's how the people treat it. They expel the indigenous people and allocate them to surrogate areas, their land goes to the gold-seekers and their prospecting rights. The surrogate areas aren't of any use, however, so they don't live in villages anymore, but in small cities. That'll turn out to be very problematic in the future.
Was it a bizarre experience to you to live with indigenous people, even though it is said that there is no room for the white man?
JK: I've seen tourism in parts of the world where I'd have never expected it. An example would be the South Pole. Once I reached by goal there a plane landed, six tourists came out and paid several thousand dollars for a four to six hour long stay. I thought there was a lot less tourism at the Amazon than anywhere else. The only tourists who travel there are either extremely rich Americans or Russians who come in by helicopter, no matter how expensive the journey. As long as they were there once in their life, took a picture with an Indian and a monkey, then they fly back to Bogotá. All in all, you only meet natives here.
TL: You have to differentiate. There are also motor boats and Americans with sun hats on, sleeping in their loggias. But not in the area we were in. There were children there, who pulled at our pants and ran to our kayaks, because they had never seen anything like it. A canoe made of plastic! They only know boats made out of wood. The kids played with our fishing poles, the angling reels, and were amazed by our lures and wobblers. They had never seen something like that before. They only knew of the hooks, where you put a little meat on. There was a lot of curiosity.
Did the journey affect your friendship at all?
TL: Our friendship didn't get any better or worse, it's been a good friendship before. We want our travels to be periodic. Joey and I want to grant us this sort of time off every two, three years. We realized we're getting better at it. We drove down rapids. While travelling on the Yukon we would have peed our pants, but now we're capable of really daring manoeuvres among waves that are 1.5 metres high. You get well attuned over time, become more experienced with the daily routine, the luggage, moving around.
JK: That was one of the reasons why we planned out the next trip right after our Amazon journey. We paddled down the Rhine in August 2020. We decided to do this during the Corona pandemic, because like that we didn't have to travel through so many countries and still got to tell the entire river's history, which led us through Switzerland, Germany, Liechtenstein, Austria, France and the Netherlands.
Do these travels to the Yukon and Amazon satisfy your wish for solitude?
TL: Like we said, we already travelled along the Rhine. The Nile will be next. The Mekong river is also on our list, but with the goal to start at its origin. These journeys are really important to us. We might have published up to six books some time. We still have a couple of goals ahead of us: The Nile, maybe the Mississippi, one Russian river and the Mekong. Like that we would have visited a river in almost each part of the world.
Which seems to be a difficult goal to achieve, considering the current Corona pandemic...
JK: Sadly so. Because even if Germany will be cleared of the virus, that might not be the case for Tanzania, where the Nile originates, or in Egypt, where it ends. There are five countries in between, after all.
Symbolically, what did you take home from this journey?
TL: Humbleness! And gratefulness for what we have. At the same time, however, a sort of incomprehension for how we live here in Europe. With so much waste, lunacy and luxury. The people we met didn't really have anything. Property and wealth don't mean anything. The huts, the boats, tools, even the TV, it all belongs to everyone. You eat and drink together, and most of the work is done as a community. They say people are happier there. I won't be the judge as to whether that's true, but life there is simpler, more manageable, and thus people there live more modestly. In Germany people get up in the morning, rush to the office, are stuck in traffic, sit at the computer all day or manage machines, rush back home in the evening. In comparison, it's very relaxed at the Amazon. The people go to bed early, when they wake up they go fishing, hunt or raise manioc and corn. Life there is structured in a very simple way, it's been reduced to only the bare necessities.
What is the first image you see when you think of Amazonia?
JK: Looking back, I'm always thinking of this one boat ride very early in the morning. It was still foggy when we started paddling. To the left of us I can still barely see riverside, apart from that only fog, I can only see for two, three metres. We are on the Amazon without knowing what's ahead of us. It's quiet, there is no wind, the water is calm... That was a great experience.

So, I have been (re)watching OUAT, and this scene came across. Perhaps you only see the importance of it if you like Reigna, Snow, or both, but I want to talk about it.
Because damn, it is an important scene.
Now on this scene, Snow calls Regina to have a face to face conversation, because she knows she's lying and she is tired of lying.
Before anyone comes at me, this post's intention is not to justify or excuse neither women or their behavior, or their past mistakes and the crimes they have committed.
That said, let's analyse this scene.
Now, Regina's first words are about Henry. The first thing she had in mind is her son, and his safety, and I think it tells something about her on this early seasons and the beginning of her redemption, because when she meets Snow, she's not on a defensive mode. There's a trust implicit, Regina trusting Snow and assuming that, if she summoned her, it's not because she's going to attack her, but because of Henry.
It's not just about the dialogue, but about the facial expression. She has let her guard down with Snow.
She changes her expression from concerned to bothered when Snow says that's not why she wanted to talk to her. She doesn't look angry, just annoyed and tired, because she can see something coming.
Because we often forget that they lived together for several years, and if anyone knows Snow, that's Regina.
Still, she sits down. She could easily leave the place and ignore her, but she stays because she wants to hear what Snow has to say. The former Regina that the first season presented us would have left in the blink of an eye. This Regina, however, wants to hear what Snow has to say. Even if it's a bad thing.
Also, Snow's few lines thus far into the scene and her expressions say a lot about her growth as well. She's straight forward, telling Regina that they should discuss it. Her expression is firm.
Snow the princess, the one we've seen on the first season was far less direct. She would soften whatever she had to say or she would avoid the main topic. Either this Snow has changed her behaviour towards Regina, or she has thought a lot about that conversation before it happened. Again, Snow has been shown as a bit impulsive, even in other seasons. Anyway, she has a different intention with Regina.
And she doesn't look like she's going to attack her, but she's not going to be soft on her.
The next few lines, we confirm that behavior. When Regina tries to avoid the topic, Snow calls it what it is, word by word, and she looks stern. She's done with any bullshit, with anyone beating around the bush.
It's only when Cora is mentioned, that Regina gets defensive. She justifies her actions with a patronising attitude, telling her that she knows what she's doing, treating Snow like a child that has no idea of what's going on. Apparently, she's back to her old ways.
So is Snow, who mentions that a war is happening and then proceeds to mention how good of a person she is. Again, like she has done before, she's painting herself as a good person, in a sort of savior manner, telling Regina that she is willing to give her one more chance, the last one this time.
Now, Regina's face says it all: she laughs sarcastically, because she has heard this story before, being forgiven even if the other part has no idea what's going on. Snow *thinks* she knows what's going on, but Regina KNOWS what's going one because she is involved.
Now let's get to the juicy part.
Snow tells her to be on the good side, and Regina tells her that she was always *just* the Queen, and that Snow added "Evil" to it. Now, we can read this in two different ways. Snow started calling her "evil" because she tried to murder her, which could be true, but maybe Snow started calling her "evil" before that happened. As far as I recall, the real origin is not shown on the show, and I don't remember Snow being the one who called Regina that. Except for this scene and this dialogue.
Whatever option is true, it is stated that Snow branded the Evil Queen.
What is obvious is that Regina tells her that she is good, that perhaps she hasn't considered this, but Snow insists on what she's doing and that it is not what good people do.
And then, we realise Regina is a scorned woman. She mentions that all her efforts for redeeming herself thus far have been futile because people will never forgive her or accept her. Then, we should remember how many times Regina has defended that evil isn't born, it's made. She thinks (in fact, it could be her philosophy) that people are not born evil just for the sake of it, but instead, she knows there is a transition, a path. A series of people, words, decisions and many more circumstances that turn good people into bad people.
But Snow doesn't see it that way. We have seen them in the past, and Snow trusted and loved Regina, but her words and her attitude make it look like she has forgotten all those good moments and all the good deeds of Regina, like her bad actions null her good ones.
Regina warns Snow to stay away from her, and that's when the fickle brat shown on flashbacks makes a comeback: she attacks Regina with a personal issue, her mother-daughter relationship.
These two women come from a very different way. Snow had a mother, even if it was for a short time of her life, and she has a different view on what a mother should be like because her own mother was a good mother. Regina has had a mother since the very beginning, but she was never a good mother to begin with, and all she knows about family is pain. It's pretty obvious when you see her relationship with Henry.
But this time, Snow's manipulation doesn't work because Regina has grown as well. The Queen would have fallen for it, but Regina hasn't. If you ask me, being alone has helped her.
The Evil Queen was surrounded with people who kept manipulating her. In Storybrooke, she was alone for years until Henry arrived in her life. She's not letting Snow get into her head, she has had too much alone time to think about many, many things. Snow tried several things, like mentioning Henry, but Regina has a clear goal. These two women are more experienced, more mature.
That's when Regina pokes at Snow's weakness, her mother. She tells her that she has no idea of what a mother is like, implying that she doesn't have a mother anymore, she hasn't in a really long time.
At the end, you can see their growth but also their coincidences. Even if they try to paint them as different people, ying and yang, Regina and Snow are too similar. They are stubborn, they have strong beliefs, they have similar methods... the only difference is that Snow sees the world as black and white, whilst Regina sees all the shades of grey (even if she can't quite differenciate them).
Also, you can see how much they crave affection. Regina craves her mother's, while Snow crave's Regina. She tries to allure her so she joins her side, but Regina keeps excusing or justifying her mother to have an excuse to be by her side without feeling negative feelings.
And that, that relationship and those women, are the core of the show. Their growth, individual and as a duo, is what the show is. And that scene is a display of what they were, what they are, and what they will be.
And once you watch that scene and you keep watching the show, you wonder what would have happened if that conversation had gone in a different way. But if it had, their complexity wouldn't be nowhere.
