Inglourious Basterds (2009, Quentin Tarantino)
01/03/2024
Inglourious Basterds is a 2009 film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino.
Uchronic war film, the title is a tribute to Enzo G. Castellari's 1977 features film Quel maledetto treno blindato, released in the United States with the title The Inglorious Bastards which Tarantino modified homophonically in the original language to Inglourious Basterds.
It is the first chapter of the director's trilogy of historical revisionism, which will continue with Django Unchained and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, paying homage to Sergio Leone and his trilogy of time, revisiting various periods of the contemporary history.
1941. In Nazi-occupied France, the young Jewish Shosanna Dreyfus witnesses the massacre of her entire family at the hands of German Colonel Hans Landa, nicknamed "Jew Hunter" for his ability to sniff out their hiding places. The girl miraculously escapes death and takes refuge in Paris.
1944. Lieutenant Aldo Raine recruits a special team of eight Jewish soldiers nicknamed "Bastards", belonging to various units of the US military. The soldiers will be parachuted into Europe shortly before the Normandy landings, with the mission to sow terror among the Nazis, killing every German soldier they encounter to take their scalps. The nickname Bastards was given to them by the German soldiers for the continuous massacres that Raine and his group carried out, in particular for the bloody killings carried out by Sergeant Donnie Donowitz (nicknamed The Bear Jew) with a baseball bat. A new member has recently been added to the group: the former German soldier Hugo Stiglitz, who became famous in the German army for having killed 13 Gestapo officers.

I was thinking that it’s wild that the 2011 steampunk Three Musketeers film never really took off and that we never got the sequel they had hooked in the final scene. It’s such a shame because it’s fantastically weird and wild and fun with the most brilliant cast.
The Musketeers are 2005 Mr. Darcy, Black Sails’ Blackbeard, Bard from the Hobbit and Percy Jackson. The Queen of France is Keeley from Ted Lasso.
The bad guys are Leelo Dallas, Hannibal (with a sword), Legolas (with an airship), and Colonel Landa from Inglourious Bastards.
Is it the best Musketeers production out there? No. But is it fun? Hell yes. Airships! Steampunk weapons! Brilliant design! A completely historically inaccurate tongue firmly in cheek!

The Wildwood Chronicles
I've talked about this for what seems like to me, to death about this so I want to close the book on this and finally sum it all up because I finally have everything to say it about it in just one place.
It's now a full-on passion project that I really want to do, create and make a reality and that's The Wildwood Chronicles, an epic and ambitious adult-animated series that is a grand crossover between over hundreds — and I mean HUNDREDS — of media (movies, TV shows, anime, comics, video games) that retroactively establishes them all in the same shared universe all along.
Here is all the information, all of the notes/trivia/details, everything that I can tell anyone on this without spoiling anything about it because I'm keeping this shit under lock and key pretty much:
youtube
• The ambition with this project is anything but small. How I'd best describe it is a mix of Avengers: Infinity War (the last great MCU movie with only two exceptions afterwards) and Inglourious Basterds (Quentin Tarantino's greatest achievement since 1994) with the influences being not just those two but also Godzilla Minus One, Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption 2, Gore Verbinski's Pirates Of The Caribbean Trilogy and the original Die Hard for many aspects of the series whether it'd the size, scope, scale, balance of characters, action, emotional moments etc.
Tumblr media
• As for who's the lead and who'll voice him, the answer is Reese Miller both voiced by and modeled directly after Walton Goggins. When he's introduced, he's a down-on-his-luck, alcoholic, cynical, sarcastic and narcissistic schmuck with a criminal past who after an incident that caused his downfall had no choice but to crawl back to his family that he abandoned years ago and now has to deal with his ex-wife wanting him to do just one good thing in his life now and that's be there for his children. Only thing is it's on a certain day where his daughter is his that the main event that kickstarts everything happens and he's left in and later wakes from a months-long coma while his daughter, for a while, has an unknown fate. It's from then on that he becomes a man who is consumed with guilt and regret and is haunted by his past actions and the dirtbag he was with him wanting to and even becoming a better person in this world that's now falling apart. Unfortunately, all of the events that he's put through ultimately turn him into a tragic anti-hero who wants to see this world burn to the fucking ground and without giving any spoilers away, deals the final blow that seals this fictional universe's fate. Or does it? I seriously can't imagine anyone else in this role but Walton and Walton only.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
• As for how it will be a crossover, not only will it be a sequel years later, months later, weeks later depending on which media but also it's a strong balance of differentiations. Some like the three here will be major players and have major roles....
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
.... while others will be surprise supporting roles or even cameo appearances from supporting characters like these three here....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
.... or are objects and items that serve as easter eggs that imply or show they're in the same world as well like these beautiful bastards here.
• As for the actual show itself, it will be a 65 episode limited series event with a clear and more than definitive beginning, middle and end. I want the whole show to feel like one long 65 episode feature film while at the same time giving each episode their own stand-out distinctions enough to make them stand on their own. Top of all that, there will be no commercial breaks and every episode will be a full two-hours long with them being treated as events you can't miss. What makes this more special is that there's only one network I have in mind for this series and that's FX.
youtube
• As an added bonus, the show will be incredibly and viscerally violent and even brutal with its gore. Hundreds and hundreds of people, creatures, superheroes, supervillains, zombies etc. will be killed in thousands of different and horrific ways with Rambo (2008), Blade II, aforementioned Inglourious Basterds, The Night Comes For Us and Hard Boiled serving as the main influences for the violence but it's not shock for the sake of shock, it's to show that the world is now somehow more dangerous and visceral than it's ever been before and to show that absolutely no one no matter who they are are safe.
youtube
• As for who are the directors, I want there to be several distinct and interesting filmmakers to helm episodes but the main one who'll direct the most episodes for he's the main director of the series will easily be Gore Verbinski.

Indy 5 spoilers below
I loved it, but one of very few knocks against this movie comes inspired by Mr. Plinkett: Indiana Jones [still] needs to murder more people.
Like, he totally punches the shit out of some Nazis, but these are Nazis we're talking about here. I'm not asking for Inglourious Basterds-level bloodshed, but, just maybe, you know, the level of Karen Allen wasting a truckload of them with an aircraft's machine gun would be nice.
I mean, in all seriousness, it does perfectly encapsulate that uncomfortable footnote in history called Operation Paperclip, where you had Nazis that escaped retribution effectively sharing a workspace with Jews who survived Nazi wrath, in the name of sending men to the moon.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge was unexpectedly a favorite character. Not the favorite character, but it was genuinely entertaining how she could maintain the charade of fooling both the Nazis and Indy and company, as well as outgrowing her disillusionment of archaeology as nothing more than a for-profit endeavor and become close to the kind of person Indy becomes when presented with a rare find, "giddy as a schoolboy."
There is uncanny valley with regards to the opening act of de-aged Harrison Ford retrieving artifacts from the 1940's Nazis, but really it wears off rather quickly because of how enthralling the whole sequence becomes. And this may serve as a knock against the overall grain of the film, that this is a franchise born in the heyday of 1980's practical effects and heading off into a sunset made in a million dollar supercomputer, but the CG is...not bad, actually. It's Lucasfilm. Do you really think they were going to pull punches?
And Mads. God, this man was born to play villains, especially ones whose villainy contrasts with vulnerability once they've been had, but without ever eliciting our empathy. It's also kind of...sad? No. Tragic? Also no. Well, screw it, he's a darling of the internet and he has to also play such contemptible bastards. He is a Palpatine-level of evil with how much he enjoys playing the bad guy.
Last but not least, the ageless Harrison Ford. Yeah, he's probably actually held together with plates and screws like his iconic character, but it's his presence and persona that never disappoints. Even in his seventies, he's still respected well enough that you'd never doubt he could, in fact, fight everyone from replicants to a hulking pile of Third Reich muscle. He shines. I'm glad Indy got his happy ending.

First of all i absolutely love your fic!
And i would like to know that are there any films&tvs like inglourious bastards that you would like to recommend?
Plus i am studying too it's like studying but 'stu' is silent
Ohhhh boy THANK YOU SO MUCH I'm so happy you like the fic!!! And I relate to the studying part hahaha
For the recommendations yes I DO have because I really love quality ww2 media so here goes:
there's truly nothing like a Tarantino film out there style-wise in cinema, especially in war cinema, so my first rec would actually be Django Unchained if you haven't seen it already! Reservoir Dogs is still a master of character interactions, True Romance is very Tarantino... When it comes to war films though, I really loved Fury (2014), T-34, Battle for Sevastopol, Jojo Rabbit (it's not explicitly about war! the style is just very unique and I readily cried and I recommend it sm), Come and See is a masterpiece of antifascist cinema but it's the heaviest watch of all, when I tell you you'll come out traumatized I'm not kidding and it's SO important to see. Other than that - Anthropoid! With Cillian Murphy! Ivan's Childhood is devastating! Blood&Gold is a German film that's VERY basterdly! And of the latest ones, All quiet on the western front.
These are just the more popular ones I've seen haha hope you find a good watch among them!
(edit: I cannot believe I forgot to add Babylon Berlin my beloved my most cherished IT'S SO GOOD)
