Listen, do I love a good sad ending? Yes, a tragedy, a bittersweet ending, a well written horror, villains winning, heroes losing, you know, all that edgy stuff. I don't believe everything needs to have a happy ending and I think for some stories, a tragic ending just makes more sense. I also love when writers go against the viewer's expectations because it's interesting and can really be impactful if done well. However, I still need Stranger Things to have the happiest, cheesiest, sweetest ending of all time.
No one is allowed to die besides Vecna and some demogorgons. They kill Vecna with the power of love and friendship. The world is saved. Everyone gets their happy ending whatever that may be and no matter what, they all stay friends because they are basically family at this point. Bonus points, if the last scene is everyone hanging out and everyone just being happy. I won't even cringe if the last line is one of them saying "well, we've definitely seen stranger things."
Like make it goofy and funny and sweet, the rest of the season can still be dark and serious without there being any more tragedy. I don't think the ending being happy will take away from that.
I know this has probably already been said but it's so important to me that the show isn't a tragedy. You know why? Because it's a mainstream show about outcasts in the 80s. A show about gay kids, black kids, disabled kids, kids that are considered different just for existing. If you take away the supernatural and the sci-fi elements, at its core, that's what the show is about.
So if the show that from day one has been about being different and being who you are, turns around and kills off half the cast and has either a bittersweet ending or just a plain awful ending just for shock value or because it makes the story more "realistic" (and yes, that includes having Will be rejected by the person he loves and being killed off. El sacrificing herself because she's a superhero and that's what she feels she's supposed to do or Max and Lucas having a tragic love story.) It'd be throwing away everything the show stands for and personally, I think it would be god awful writing.
That kind of ending can be done well but I don't think that's the kind of ending ST needs.
There's been enough tragic stories about minorities in both the past and present. This show has evil crispy undead wizards and giant lanky mind controlling spiders, I don't think poc/queer/disabled/female/etc characters being happy and alive is gonna make the show unrealistic.

Does anyone know anything about El’s Strawberry Festival shirt?
It has Hawkins, Indiana on it so it’s not a real shirt from the 80’s. They made it for the show. But why?

El, you tried dating Mike. A for effort.
I love you so much, but please dump Mike's ass again (he has a boyfriend waiting for him) (and El has a girlfriend and a boyfriend waiting for her)

We win every single time, don’t we?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mike allegedly got El this ring and regardless of if it’s actually the same ring Nancy’s wearing or not, the rings are insanely similar and both El and Nancy wear it on their right hand’s index finger {same place} so there’s a connection nonetheless {and therefore a connection between El and Mike’s sister}!!
Wearing your ring on your index finger also symbolizes power and capability which is simply wonderful considering El’s independence arc <3

for any of the believers or people who are interested in that one “the show wrote the way to finish wills arc is to be with mike and els arc is to have a loving family” analysis then i have food for you 🤭
we all know the iconic and cinematographically beautiful ending scene
Tumblr media
but lets focus on our two main characters, will and el. before any of them walk into the field the both of them have a personal finale scene of their own
for El,
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
she finds out her dad is indeed alive, she never stopped believing. you see her rush over to her family (hop, joyce, will, jon) we know she’s never gotten a glimpse of an actual family, due to the lab. papa wasnt a healthy father figure to her nor was her “siblings” and her mom was not mentally there when she saw her for the first time.
here she finds something that she’s been missing since she was a kid. so no, she doesn’t need a romantic relationship and its not important to her at all at this point of time, she has all the love she needs right here.
for Will,
listen, he’s been independent all his life. he’s been getting platonic love from his family all throughout the seasons. so why expand the storyline further when he, supposedly, has all the love he needs?
this is his personal ending scene
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(btw if you want me to make a post about how beautiful the cinematography is in this scene pls tell me because i will rant.)
basically he talks about how he can feel vecna now that he’s in hawkins, he’s getting all these memories about what hes done to him throughout the show
mike is right there beside him. reassuring him. that they’ll defeat him together.
so, summary, their ending scenes for season 4 foreshadowed their own FINAL ending. also before el reunited with her dad she was grieving over max and remembering the memories, i think her arc this season will mostly be connected to max. she will probably do everything in her power to bring her back, and her finale is that shes in a loving family. for will, his arc this season is defeating vecna as said in his whole speech, and his finale will be ending up with mike.
idk just makes sense!
also can i talk about how connected will and el are its like theyre the 2 main characters and like they already have eachothers ending and its so ?!?!? its liek they switcj and its so cool and likekeeee seaosn 1 el, no will seaosn 2 will, no el DO U KNOW WHAT INMEAN I LOVE WILLEL SO MUCH MY HEARTBHURTS

El literally survived being held in the lab twice, killing the demogorgon, being stuck in the upside down, fighting Vecna (also twice), closing the gate and fighting a literal monster made of flesh and milkvans still think she’s not going to survive without Mike…

When I was new to the fandom I came across this… interesting Pinterest post.
Tumblr media
(The watermark is blacked out so people don’t send hate to the creator. Most of y’all are cool but I wanna be careful.)
This weirded me out then, and that was before I was a byler shipper. I guess it’s supposed to be romantic but it just feels… icky. Like shouldn’t it be “my name is El because that’s what my friends and family call me,” or even better, “my name is El because that’s the name I chose”? Why make it all about Mike? I get he’s the one that came up with it originally but El was the one that stuck with it, even after she learned her birth name.
This certainly isn’t all mlvn shippers and I don’t want to make it seem like they’re all bad, but there’s a weird amount of them that make El and Mike’s characters all about their romance. Don’t get me wrong, bylers are guilty of this too sometimes, but it seems especially apparent in the mlvn fandom and with some ga members. It feels like some of them don’t even pay attention to their characters and just want a cute boy/girl romance.
Toxic mlvns love to cry “misogyny” whenever someone dares to ship byler, but then turn around and say they want Mike and El to get married and have babies the second they graduate high school (a concept that stranger things is very clearly against btw). And don’t even get me started on the people that think Max was a bad influence on El because she “made” her break up with Mike, even though Max was literally helping El become her own person!
I don’t know, it’s just sometimes it feels like bylers are the only ones that actually care about Mike and El as characters and pay attention to their wants and what would be the best end to their arcs.
(Again, this is about the worse parts of the mlvn fandom, I know there are cool people in it that actually watch the dang show).

Honestly, Will should of said the powerful speech to El. It would have meant a lot more than Mike's lies. Sibling love is much more important to someone working on independence rather than the boyfriend who hurt her. Will should give her a powerful talk in season 5 right before the final battle. And Mike just watches him in amazement as he talks to her

"Wanting Byler to be endgame means you hate El and want her to have her heart broken/have an unhappy ending-" 🔫 yeah, no, let me stop you right there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
El is one of my most loved characters. To me, leaving a relationship she's very clearly unhappy in and giving herself the love and acceptance she thought only a romantic partner could give her is her happy ending.
