ISB agent Vee

Hi omg hiiii this is my star wars OC. I actually missed drawing her, so I am being self-indulgent on my birthday. Please find attached: shitposts that remind me of her. My accumulated character notes for her are beneath the cut.

Agent Ilona Vee Vee is an ISB officer stationed on the planet Utapau. A natural born informer who loves to provoke people into showing disloyalty that she can report. History She hails from some wretched low level of Coruscant. In her early days, Vee scraped an existence as a 'tour guide' for rich upper level Coruscant youth who wished to experience the excitement of seedy levels from a safe vantage. As a result of this, she's disdainful of anyone she perceives as upper class. She was recruited by the ISB (for accumulating interesting information about her various clients' families) after her job went sour in a painful and humiliating way (scapegoated by a friend in debt, and got two of her fingers chopped off by a crime syndicate). Vee has been a loyal imperial officer ever since.

Personality Her useful traits are an excellent memory and fearlessness. Away from the structured discipline of the Core Worlds, however, Vee becomes more sloppy, annoying, and blasé in attitude. She is abhorrent not so much out of purposeful cruelty, as much as out of not understanding that life can be any other way. The weak suffer and the strong bite, that's how it has always been, and she is absolutely delighted at the opportunity to piss off people while wielding authority.

She also probably enjoys it when her attitude gets a reaction that surpasses her control, so it's a little awkward for everyone when her grin only widens if she gets a beating, but it's best not to think too deeply about that.

Fun Facts Has two cybernetic fingers, but usually wears gloves.

While designing her, I wanted to add an annoying visual feature to her, so I went with the floppy fringe hairstyle of that kid from the movie 'Treasure Planet'.

Irrelevant facts

Two visual details that I'll probably never draw, but that exist in my head: A faded scar on her back that says 'ITCH'. When she was a kid, she tattled on some gang member and got a warning written into her skin. She claims it used to say 'SNITCH' before other scrapes covered the first letters... but another, less polite option is possible. A slight pink tint to her ear tips, denoting some level of Twi'lek heritage, because I imagine she wouldn't be 100% human with all the species mixing on lower Coruscant. It mostly just looks like her ears are cold.

So I’ve had three play throughs so far where I’ve romanced Astarion. Two were Dark Urge and one was a vanilla Tav.

Since so many people can’t wrap their head around how anyone could possibly help Astarion Ascend so I want to run through my thought process of why my Dark Urge Tav’s did help him.

First I’ll start with Puk, my evil bard dark urge. I think of Puk as a dark urge that Orin should have stabbed harder.

He naturally falls back into who he always was, never resisting his killing urge and love of chaos. He’s a cruel, manipulative, power hungry, monster and he loves it. He’ll take any offer that equals more power, going so far to become half illithid. His evil nature is only encouraged by Minthara and Astarion. Puk knew as soon as he remembered his heritage that he wanted to reclaim his spot as Bhaal’s chosen having already re-earned his slayer form. Puk never thought twice about Astarion Ascending, more power for his little vampire meant more power for him. And if Astarion could make him immortal all the better. He doesn’t care how it will change Astarion, he’s always been a toy for Puk: a key to immortality and fine breeding stock for ascendant dhampire bhaalspawn. Puk doesn’t mind playing the submissive little consort either, at least until he takes control of the brain and makes his vampiric master nothing more than a thrall to sit at his feet while he becomes absolute in Bhaal’s name.

Next my other dark urge Ilona, they were my first play through. I’ll admit they started out as a self insert but I’ve replayed they’re run and fleshed them out to be their own character. Unlike Puk, Orin left Ilona’s head full of scrambled eggs. They barley remember how to be a person and start off with very little personality beyond their urge. As they gain companions and spend time around others slowly the urge is joined by a new person starting to form. As this new personality arises they start to become scared of the urge realizing how they’re companions react to them whenever they let the it take control. Especially after the Alfira incident they start to resist the urge and wanting to be free of it. Of course because they’re an excellent killer and their brain is easily manipulated goo, Astarion picks them as his protector. Ilona is completely defenseless against him easily falling for his honeyed words and attention. However as they grow closer they become completely codependent on each other. As they become more and more afraid of the urge they become more and more dependent on Astarion. He’s their protector just as much as they’re his. This only spirals out of control when they get to Baldurs Gate and learn of their past, they’re terrified. They start to feel hopeless in standing up to Bhaal becoming an unholy assassin and almost ready to except their fate to become their father’s chosen puppet. They’re so wrapped up in their past they’re not sure how they feel about Astarion ascending. It seems like what he wants to do and when he promises he needs that power to protect them both to keep them both safe forever, Ilona believes him. Plus it’s not like they can judge him what’s 7000 souls when they’ve killed countless innocents for less. They just don’t have the strength to deny him and risk loosing the one source of safety and comfort they have. They don’t mind becoming his spawn, between loosing their memory and the urge they don’t trust their own mind, better to let Astarion have it. Even if one day he compels them, it’s for the best if he does the thinking for them anyways. Deep down they know they deserve how he treats them. That and with the. daddy issues deeply rooted in their psyche from both Sarevok and Bhaal part of them loves it. They’re his little consort his beloved pet and he’s their master, their husband, and father. For better or for worse they feel they deserve each other.

My vanilla Tav is an Oath of Devotion Paladin. They were never really onboard with the whole Ascension thing. They love Astarion but they’re worried about what that kind of power will do to him. They do start to falter in act 3 after facing so many horrors they’re beginning to loose faith in their Oath and fearing the worst. Maybe it would be ok, he could use that power for good! To defeat the absolute and save the city, to save themselves. When he says he wants that power so they can be safe forever, for good; they almost make up their mind then and there to help him when the time comes. They steel their resolve to stand by him just like they promised however when they come face to face with his victims tied to the ritual, they break. Looking into Sebastian’s eyes, easily picturing themselves in that cell with him, they promise he will not die trapped in that cage and they mean it. Even if Astarion hates them, they can’t let him go through with the ritual if not to save him than to save those poor souls that fell for Astarion’s charm just as they had. And when Astarion smiles at them and tells them he loves them, they feel their faith and hope return.

I actually think that Pompey was wife-coded, not Caesar! Caesar gets a lot of heat over the Queen of Bithnyia allegations, but he never actually fulfills the role of a Roman politician's wife within the Tris Homines, although he DOES fill the role of a courtesan when the dominant political power at play was Crassus-Pompey

I, Strahd fic ideas:

Despite Fear

Instead of just eavesdropping on the situation between Strahd and Vampyr, Alek busts in and prevents Strahd from making a deal with it.

With Alek alive and Strahd still somewhat sane, they thwart Leo Dilisnya entirely. Sergei and Tatyana live, marry, and go off to visit the Von Zaroviches' homeland.

A party of Strahd, Alek, Ilona, Victor Wachter, probably Tatra, and maybe Ivan Buchvold find the Amber Temple and make sure the Dark Powers fucking stay out of Strahd's head.

Immortality

Strahd doesn't consider the idea of settling down with someone or having kids until Alek suggests it to him. He says having a kid is like holding your own immortality in your hands.

Unfortunately, everything goes wrong. Alek is dead. Tatyana is dead. Castle Ravenloft is desolate. Strahd is more alone than ever.

Eventually, he remembers to track down Leo Dilisnya and make him suffer. After he and Lovina Wachter have their revenge, on his way out of Vallaki, Strahd catches sight of a familiar figure.

It's Alek's son, now nearly 50 years old, and the resemblance to his father is uncanny.

The Empty Closet

Alek wakes up in Strahd's closet with an ache deep in his gut that feels like a black hole with teeth.

It's a mess as he tries to figure out how he's alive, what the hell Strahd is doing, and deal with the awful coup that erupts within the castle.

As Russian artillery rained down on the Ukrainian city of Kherson last year, one girl found a surprising way of processing the horror that was taking place. She passed the time in a bomb shelter playing the stark, many would say depressing, video game This War of Mine.

There is a critical burden for every Ukrainian this winter. For her, it is trying to make sense of a terrible conflict. For Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, it is getting the weapons and international support to fight Russia and keep strategic momentum on his country’s side. For his soldiers, it is trying to keep morale up and stay warm in freezing temperatures. And for the almost 8 million Ukrainian refugees that the war has created, it is trying to rebuild lives in foreign countries.

A disproportionate number are doing so in Poland, which has registered more than 1.4 million of them for temporary protection, the largest number of any EU country, according to ReliefWeb.

The country’s particularly strong solidarity is replicated across Eastern Europe. Warsaw resident Konrad Adamczewski puts it down to proximity: “This was a war that broke out in a neighbouring country. You could immediately see people coming to Poland for shelter.”

The company he works for, 11 bit studios, made the bestselling This War of Mine. The unnamed Ukrainian girl in the basement got in contact at some point last year to thank them for the help the game gave her.

11 bit studios has been showing its solidarity since the beginning of the war in other ways, too. Within hours of Russia’s campaign, the company launched a fundraiser. For a week, all proceeds from sales of This War of Mine would be donated to the Ukrainian Red Cross. Some $850,000 was raised, far exceeding what the company had expected. “The impact was huge. We were very happy we could contribute, but it was also hugely sad that in 2022 the message of the game was once again so vivid,” Mr Adamczewski told me.

It was a remarkable achievement financially. But, as Mr Adamczewski went on to say, it is only when you look at the content of the game itself that you realise quite how apt the campaign was on deeper levels. “We developed this as a game about peace. Immediately we saw people commenting online that the scenes of innocent people suffering unfolding on the news looked like This War of Mine.”

The game is, after all, entirely about war, but barely about soldiers. Instead, civilians are the protagonists in an unnamed conflict, as they try to survive and not lose hope in the process. Winning, if it can even be called that, is not triumph in battle, but just to survive until the end of the siege.

The setting is loosely based of the siege of Sarajevo, one of the longest in modern history, in which non-combatants were often forced into otherwise immoral acts to survive, be it hoarding resources, theft or even violence. But if the game had been released in 2022, Mariupol, Bakhmut or Kherson could well have been the inspiration.

Now the game is helping children outside Ukraine as well. At the end of 2022, it was officially included in Poland’s curriculum. Teacher Ilona Starosta says she uses it in her classes because of its many perspectives. “Students wonder what it means to win a game like this. Does winning mean surviving? Does it make sense to survive at all costs?”

These questions are not delivered in abstract debates. Players might be in the shoes of Adam, who struggles to get medicine for his ill child as he tries to untangle his own mind from severe shell shock. Or they might be journalist Malik, who has to balance the need to broadcast life-saving information with not angering a censorious military.

For Mr Adamczewski, the potential for explaining these dilemmas makes gaming a uniquely powerful tool for learning: “When children study literature, there is often a question of what the author had in mind. But in games, you become the author.”

The depth of the game has caught global attention. In the UK, London’s Imperial War Museum features it as an installation in its War Games exhibition, which opened in September. Curators placed it next to artefacts that captives made during the Second World War to create a sense of normality during extreme hardship; they include a teapot, given to an English prisoner of war by a Polish comrade, and improvised cigarettes. In the US, the game is featured in New York’s Museum of Modern Art’s exhibition Video Games and Other Interactive Design, which also opened in September.

However much renewed attention the game is getting globally, it remains a success firmly rooted in Poland. Like many other places in Eastern Europe, the country has a remarkably creative independent gaming sector.

As a developer, Mr Adamczewski says that the arrival of personal computers in the 1980s was a radical opportunity to learn more about life outside the communist bloc. More simply, people also wanted to use them to play games. With no access to ones developed in the West, people started developing their own. This wider wave of tech curiosity and the chance to start afresh after the fall of the Soviet Union are reasons that Eastern Europe has much better internet connectivity than richer western European countries.

But more than just a leading economic asset, the region’s gaming sector is becoming a cultural one, too. In the case of This War of Mine, to remind people that war has a terrible, complex impact on civilians. It is far too soon to say if a video game will ever reach the renown of All Quiet on the Western Front or Dulce et Decorum Est, classics that will explain history's worst moments for generations. But if one ever does, it could well come from Eastern Europe.
