‘You’re just about the last person I want to see right now’
More fanart of @jewishclarkkent s fab fanfic “There’s a Science to Walking Through Windows”. This is from the latest chapter where this gorgeous description made me draw.
Extract from fic:
In the doorway stands Tony, pale and dishevelled. His clothes, typically pristine and tailored, now hang loosely on his frame, wrinkled and unkempt. Stray strands of hair, normally meticulously styled, now stand in disarray, clinging to his forehead with sweat. He’s holding his phone in his left hand, his fingers curled tensely around the device as if they’ve already been forced to hold this position for hours.
There’s a weariness in Tony’s gaze, his typically sharp features softened by exhaustion. The room behind him is bathed in a dim, flickering light, casting long, ominous shadows that dance across his features, accentuating the tension etched into every line of his face like cracks in porcelain. Dark circles create deep hollows beneath his eyes, betraying the sleepless nights and restless days he’s endured.
When their eyes lock, the weariness in Tony’s expression deepens, an evident mixture of agitation and frustration. Tony’s body stiffens and Steve finds himself mirroring the stance, every muscle tightly coiled. The air around them is thick with anticipation and unresolved tension, as if the very atmosphere is bracing itself for the impending confrontation.
“You’re just about the last person I want to see right now,” Tony says as he rubs a hand over his face, his voice hoarse with fatigue and resignation. Still, he steps aside to allow Steve entry.

About the Artist (my gushing): Aceriee has been working with Duck Prints Press since our first anthology, Add Magic to Taste, when she created the designs for the campaign’s two gorgeous enamel pins (here and here, if you’re curious). She contributed an illustration for our first Queer Fanworks Inspired By… anthology, And Seek (Not) to Alter Me, and she designed the enamel pins for the masquerade anthologies we published most recently. And, she designed the awesome enamel pins for the eerie animal enamel pin campaign that we ran last fall!
Heavily involved with Aim For The Heart since it’s inception, Aceriee has provided the art equivalent of editing for our artists, making sure that their works will print beautifully when we got to press and ensuring that every piece meets the necessary technical specifications. This is a thought that popped up while I was waxing lyrical in tags, but I didn’t want to lose it so here it is again.
Sometimes it strikes me how incredible fic recs are, and what a wonderful insight they give us into the person recommending the story (or list of stories) whether it’s someone reblogging a creator’s post with tags or commentary, or if it’s a special post they’ve made to rec a fic.
There are people I’ve never met whose recs give me this wonderful way of knowing them; of finding out what makes their heart clench, their eyes tear up, their smile to grow.
Recs are an amazing way of finding new things to read, but they are also a remarkable way of getting to know people in such an intimate way through the stories they hold close ❤️

This is gonna be really random but I am so delighted that you have 30s in your bio. I'm 23 and at that point in my life where I'm entering adulthood and I've thought of my involvement in fandom and how that would change as I journeyed further into adulthood. And most of the time, especially on new platforms like tiktok, it's mostly younger people who are making fan content so it's amazing to see people actively enjoy fandom content as they become full adults. It's very freeing 💜
This was such a lovely ask to receive, I’m so touched and so glad that you reached out! You’ve tapped into a subject I have a Lot of Feelings about, so forgive the incoming ramble ❤️
I have had friends of all ages in fandom over the years, and those friendships have been more important than perhaps I gave them credit for at the time. I’ve been fandom-ing since I was about 14 and its been a hobby that’s brought me huge joy and allowed me to get to know so many lovely humans. They’ve modelled ways of living that I didn’t know about, have generously shared their time and knowledge and expertise and experience, and have been examples of preserving one’s joy amidst the reality of growing up and of living in an adult landscape that can become barren if you don’t intentionally enshrine what’s important to you. (The actual you, the one that lives in your heart.)
The narrative of ‘you’ll grow out of this’ or of setting aside your pleasures as you become an Adult™️ is incredibly pervasive and incredibly damaging. There is even more pressure on young women in particular, and I’ve seen so many instances of ‘oh my god you’re 30 why are you reading fanfic, shouldn’t you be married/mothering/doing your taxes?’
It’s easy to get tricked into believing these social strictures are rules that really mean something, but reducing yourself to something prescribed by….who, exactly? (The people and structures that are interested in keeping us small, and bored, and tired, and empty-hearted, and too worn out to argue when they want to take more of our money and eat into more of our precious time here on this precious planet with all of these precious people) It’s a losing game! How much do you think you would need to give up to please the anonymous Life Police who are apparently out to make sure we’re all living the most stripped-back life we can?
If something makes you happy, if it gives you pleasure or comfort or inspiration, then it has a meaningful place in your life. This isn’t hedonism, it is a fundamental basis for a life worth living.
Fandom is fundamentally about fun—it’s a small word for a big phenomenon, full of community, and friendship, and connection. It’s a folk-space where there is room for everyone, where you can explore the subversive and the comforting all in one blog. It’s where all of us can contribute—making art of all kinds, celebrating each other, inspiring each other, debating each other, stepping out of our daily lives to indulge in the essential, essential, work of imagination and creativity and enjoyment.
Play doesn’t stop being important when you stop being a child, or a teen. We’re human: telling tales and making marks, and sitting together around the fire enjoying it all is in our DNA. Fandom is just another circle of humans joining together to listen to stories and be together.
So. Enjoy being 23, but don’t fear 33, or 53, or 73!
You’ll be yourself; wiser and older, and more well-lived, but you’ll still be yourself. You’ll still laugh, with love, at your childhood and teenage embarrassing moments.
You’ll still remember when that actor did that movie, in that outfit.
You’ll have playlists full of music that brings back summers and parties and heartbreaks, and you’ll still know every lyric of all of those songs.
You’ll have new hobbies, and you’ll have your old hobbies, and maybe you’ll leave them for years at a time but you’ll come back to them unexpectedly and joyfully.
You don’t have to give anything up, not if it still makes you happy!

Were you an Austin, Baz or Elvis fan before seeing the movie? How about after?
100% Baz Luhrmann fan. I loved Romeo and Juliet, Moulin Rouge and Great Gatsby (my personal favourite). He was the reason why I went to see the movie (and knowing that Måneskin recorded a version of ‘If I can dream’!).
I always liked Elvis’ music but knew nothing about his life really so I went in pretty blindly
What is/are your favorite look(s) that Austin sports in the film?
Oh man there are SO many. I love his original pink and black suit, the black leather outfit in ‘68 come back and the black lace shirt with high waisted cream trousers. Those are my top three but, as a special extra, I must mention the silk printed shirt and chain belt he wears during the Vegas rehearsal 🤤
Most memorable scene or line?
Soooo many. I loved the whole Trouble performance so much and I think the bit where he sings ‘Glory glory’ in the opening sequence is one of the most powerful cinematic experiences I’ve ever had
But my absolute favourite must be the initial bit where Colonel meets Elvis. The way they shot that with only showing Elvis from behind and then the big reveal at the end. I thought it was so beautifully done.

As sort of a follow up to the ask about artists trying to break the perfection mentality.
How do I, as a non-artistic person, most effectively encourage artists who see the flaws instead their amazing talent?
I have a fandom friend who is hella gifted. You've seen their work, know their name just by looking at it, and they create such gorgeous art. But they also are hypercritical of their work, and while I understand that (I feel the same way about stringing words together), I also just want to point at every single thing that makes their art so amazing to me and be like, "You did this thing that I can't do, and it's a such an extraordinary gift, and I can never thank you enough for sharing it. Have my non-existant first born as a sign of my devotion."
This friend has admitted they don't really want to create in this medium anymore, which I respect and won't push back on. I just wish they could *feel* how much their art touches me.
For other artists, though, how do I help? I know that positive feedback is always welcome, but sometimes I wonder if there's something else artists find useful when it comes to reactions.
(P.S. Rainbow Mohawk Cas is, and always will be, one of my favorite pieces of your artwork, and you could try to pry him from my cold, dead hands, but you'd fail.)
Okay, I’m gonna try to answer this but it’s gonna be difficult for me because, full disclosure, I’m getting through a huge art dip right now.
The reality is, this issue is as varied and complex as the artists you’re kinda asking me to group up and speak for here. So let me be clear, I can only speak for myself and my own experience with fanart, an online presence within a fandom, and how those two things impact creativity, motivation, and self-perception. But know at the same time that my experience is not going to be exactly like other peoples’.
First, as you noted, there are always going to be the obvious things people can do to help promote their favorite artists:
Reblog their posts
CREDIT THEIR WORK ELSEWHERE
Likes
Comment
Commission them
Don’t steal
Be respectful: refrain from criticism or personal biases on their posts <—Are you allowed to have your own opinion? YES! Do you need to barf it all over their comment section? No. If you don’t agree with something they made, go make your own art. Can’t make your own art? Then go supply positive support to artists who do create the things you enjoy.
*Some of you may be surprised to learn that we do read comments, tags and reblogs. No matter how *big* or *small* you perceive us to be. So if you leave some shit in your tags, we’re probably gonna see it.
But now here comes the complicated part.
The thing about fanart creation is, it’s very much a labor of love. The time, effort, and mental energy required to make, post, and manage the feedback may often outweigh any external benefits of making the art (income, accolades, fandom celebration, etc). So there'll always come a point when artists hit a wall and need to draw on their own self-motivation. This happens over and over again, not once or twice. It’s kind of like a wave that ebbs and flows with the mood of the fandom. And with Supernatural specifically, you can imagine that wave is a little more like a typhoon: sunny beach moment one day, drowning in inescapable toxicity the next. So it doesn’t surprise me to hear you have a fandom friend who might be done creating in this subject. Does it make me sad though? Yes, incredibly. We’ve had a myriad of talented artists throughout the years that’ve since moved on and I mourn every one of them. But I also support their decision to do so. If the current subject is no longer a source of inspiration, it becomes impossible to create for it.
I do hope your friend is still creating though.
However, since you mentioned hyper-criticality, I’m afraid they might not be. The thing is, I don’t have a solution for ridding yourself of hyper-criticism as an artist. It may sometimes appear as though I do because I have a lot of art out, but that’s just an illusion. The reality is, I don’t like most of my art. And, like your friend, I’m often hyper-critical of it. The difference is, I post it anyway because I decided I don’t need to like it. I just have to make it. And if I make it enough, I build the skills I need to, every once-in-a while, accomplish something I do like. And everything in between those pieces are just stepping stones. Which is why I always finish a piece of art and tell myself “it is what it is, on to the next.” That kind of thinking has helped me move past what might otherwise be a immovable obstacle.
So, if I have any advice for your friend, it’s that. You don’t have to like your art. You just have to make it, and keep moving forward.
This is where audience interaction becomes so incredibly important. Artists always get caught up in their own head about what they’re making, but the positive feedback can help us see it through your eyes. And it isn’t everything, because tbh we’re always getting our feet caught on mental hurdles and faceplanting in our own puddles of self-loathing, but audience support can get us up again, refill our wells of motivation, and help reaffirm our goals.
I mean, I can honestly say I would not be here without the support I get. But it’s even difficult for me at times, and I’m fully aware that I benefit from much more support than many other skilled artists do.
So, @eyesofatragedy67, all of this is to say I do believe your friend knows how much their art means to you, just as I know how much my art means to other people--even the pieces I don’t like. It’s just that sometimes it’s hard to get out of our heads about it. Ultimately, it’s something we have to overcome ourselves, but that impossible task is made infinitely easier with a kind, supportive audience base. So, you keep doing what you’re doing, and I’m gonna send a little nod to your artist friend: I miss you already, but I can’t wait to see where you find your new source of inspiration.

My #1 post of 2022
Okay so here’s the thing. If I see one more “who cares about historical accuracy in a historical piece of media” I am truly going to lose my entire mind. I’m not asking for TOTAL accuracy down to the detail (I don’t strive for that, and things should connect with a modern reader) but I AM asking that books and shows and movies ENGAGE WITH THE PERIOD THEY’RE SUPPOSEDLY SET IN. The new Persuasion is just the newest (and one of the most egregious) instances of this, but I’ve seen this sentiment a lot, recently. If you don’t care about historical stuff, then why create or engage with historical media? The goal should not be to “modernize” historical fiction, but to create and engage with more diverse historical media. Different settings and periods! More stories about queer and BIPOC folks! Historical fiction has so so much to offer without stripping it of all historical context. I’m tired.

Author’s note: There was so much love for the first part of this story, the idea just kept rattling around in my head and I had to write more. Special thanks to @grogusmum for the headcanon that Grogu is fussy about napping and to @imabeautifulbutterfly for beta reading for me. I hope you enjoy this part! P.S. You’re still floating on air the next day when you awake. You’ve been in amazing spirits ever since you met Mand’alor Djarin. Yesterday had seemed almost magical, and you’ve spent hours replaying all your favorite moments with him in your head. You know there’s little chance of seeing him again, but still, you can’t help but hope that maybe he’ll stop by again sometime. You leave your home with a smile on your lips and a spring in your step, the air feels full of possibility. As you arrive at school, you cannot believe your eyes. Standing at your classroom door again is the man himself, tiny green baby in one hand and a huge bouquet of exquisite flowers in the other.
“Good morning, I wanted to come by and thank you again for yesterday,” Din tells you warmly as he thrusts the flowers in your direction. He’s thrilled to see the delighted expression on your face as you take them from his hand. He thought he might have imagined how pretty you are, but seeing you again today, he thinks you’re even more beautiful than he remembered.
“These are lovely, thank you, but you didn’t have to go to all the trouble,” you reply, your voice sounding impressed as you look over the gorgeous bouquet.
“I wanted to,” he insists, before clearing his throat, “Tomorrow is your day off.” He says this like a statement, and it perplexes you for a moment.
“Yes, it is,” you confirm.
“I would like to invite you to visit me, or rather, us, at the palace tomorrow. I really enjoyed our day and I would very much like to know you better.” Din’s request comes out sounding only a little rehearsed. He nervously shifts on his feet, as he adds, “That is, if you’re not busy?”
“Oh thank you,” you breathe, “I’m so honored and I’d love to come, I’m not busy at all.” You sound so enthusiastic but you can’t help yourself. An invitation to the royal palace isn’t something that comes around every day and especially not from the Mand’alor himself.
“Great,” Din nods at you, and underneath his helmet he is smiling like a fool, so very happy that you said yes. He tells you that he’ll send a speeder to your house tomorrow. You arrange a time and tell him again how grateful you are for the invitation. “It’s my pleasure, I’m looking forward to it,” he tells you and then he turns to leave.
“Mand’alor Djarin? Are you forgetting something?” you ask, trying not to giggle.
In his excitement of successfully asking you to visit, he seems to have forgotten the primary reason he’s here in the first place.
“Oh yes, you’ll need him,” Din says bashfully and hands Grogu off to you. He waves to his son and then bows slightly to you before leaving. Maker, he’s thankful for the helmet, otherwise you’d see him blushing hard.

Grogu’s Teacher
Part 2

Author’s note: This little ficlet is inspired by this gif 👇 and a conversation I had with @boomtowngirl this morning about Din falling for Grogu’s preschool teacher. In this Grogu has returned to Din (you know as he should) and they’re on Mandalore. Enjoy!

“Look at you, buddy, you must’ve had quite the good day at school, huh?” Din smiles down at his son; his little robe is covered in stickers. There are even two on each of his cheeks. After Grogu’s first few weeks at the newly established Mandalorian pre-school, Din had learned that getting stickers were rewards for being a good student. Usually Grogu would come home with two or three stickers but today he seemed to have earned close to 10 or 12. Din looks over all the little stickers with amusement.
“Your teacher must be really proud of your work,” Din tells him, hoping that was the case, and really hoping his son hadn’t somehow helped himself to the stickers, “Maybe I should try to visit your school sometime and say hello, I haven’t had a chance to meet your new teacher yet anyway.”
With his duties as Mand’alor, Din hadn’t had much of a chance to spend time at the school. He’d only met with the director when he enrolled Grogu, and even though he tried to walk his son to school each day, he just dropped him off at the gate. His advisors were usually so insistent that he had meetings to get to and that lateness was terribly insulting. He kept meaning to make time to set up a visit, but so far hadn’t been able to do so. In thinking about it again now, he asks his assistant to clear his morning schedule for the next day. He also instructs them to buy him a package of stickers as a gift for the teacher.
So here he is the following morning, stickers in hand, following his son through the school door and over to his classroom. Standing by the room is a beautiful woman with the most cheerful smile Din has ever seen. She’s greeting each child warmly, bending down to shake each little hand. He watches as Grogu toddles over to her and holds out both his arms, wanting a hug instead of a handshake. The teacher giggles at his cuteness and pulls him in for a little hug before straightening up and greeting Din.
“What a surprise! It’s such an honor to meet you, Mand’alor Djarin,” you say brightly, trying hard not to faint away in shock at seeing the actual leader of your people here in front of you. You’ve always known that cute little Grogu is the Mand’alor’s child, but you never thought you’d meet him. His armor is beautiful up close and he radiates power just by the way he stands there so impressively. You don’t even need to see the Darksaber hanging from his belt to know that he’s in charge. You feel like your face might be making actual heart eyes at him as you stand there staring.
“Hello, I brought you stickers,” Din thrusts the package at you awkwardly. He immediately cringes as how stupid he must sound. It’s just that you’re so pretty and when you turned that beaming smile in his direction, he lost all rational thought. You take the package from his hands, looking delighted.
“That’s so kind of you to do this,” you reply, your face heating up, “I guess you may have noticed I’m particularly generous with Grogu. I try really hard not to play favorites with my students, but he’s been doing so well and he lights up every time I give him a sticker. I guess I can’t help but dote on him a little.” The cute little alien baby really has wiggled his way into your heart and even though you care for all your students, you can tell that Grogu is special.
“Yes, thank you, I know he loves them, and that’s very sweet of you, I’m glad you’ve been giving them to him, I was afraid he might be swiping a few on his own,” Din is trying not to babble but now that he’s found his voice, he can’t seem to stop, “It’s a pleasure to meet you, I’m Din Djarin, and you’re Grogu’s pretty teacher, I mean his preschool teacher, I’m sorry I haven’t been by to say hello sooner, but I’m here now, to say hello, and bring you those.” Finally Din manages to stop talking and he’s so thankful for his helmet right now since you can’t see the nervous expression on his face.
You smile at Din as he speaks and you feel so flattered that he’s taken the time to come and say hello. Then when he calls you ‘pretty’ you have to pinch yourself to ensure that this is really happening.
“Thank you so much, Mand’alor Djarin, it really is my pleasure, and I can’t tell you what it means to me to have Grogu in my class, and to have you come here to meet me, I really am honored,” you say humbly, “If there’s anything you’d like to know about Grogu’s class or his schoolwork, I’m happy to speak to you about it.”
“Can I stay and watch the class for a while?” Din blurts out. His advisors might kill him, but he doesn’t want to leave yet. Surely it can’t hurt to stay for a little while, so he can see for himself how Grogu does in school. And not just because he wants to keep staring at you.
“Of course you can stay, you’re very welcome,” you smile even more at him and gesture for him to come in. You watch as Din follows Grogu into the room; the little guy tugs on his father’s pants and points towards the art center. Grogu proudly shows off a large picture depicting himself and his armored father, and something that looks like a giant lizard. You weren’t sure what it was supposed to be exactly but you had given Grogu a sticker for the artwork, because he had been so excited to draw it. Grogu then tugs his father over to the toy baskets and proceeds to show him his favorite toys. You let Grogu continue to give his father a classroom tour as you get the other children settled in for the day.
“Ok, everyone it’s time to start our day,” you call the children to order, and as Grogu takes his seat, you watch amused as Din folds himself into a tiny chair. He looks adorable like that, but it can’t possibly be comfortable. Quickly, you bring over your own chair for him.
“Please sit here, Mand’alor Djarin,” you offer softly, before hurrying back to the first lesson.
“Thank you,” Din whispers back, grateful. He was worried that he would end up breaking the little kiddie chair. He then turns to watch you lead the class through the lessons. He marvels at your ability to hold the children’s attention and how you seem to know just how long to let them work before making sure they have time for play. He listens to you to sing songs, tell stories, give advice, and gently admonish bad behavior. He was even so wrapped up in your lessons that he raised his own hand to answer questions. He was charmed to see you smile and then call on him so he could participate too. He’s enjoying himself so much seeing you in action.
Din ends up staying for the whole day. He helps you out with the children’s outdoor playtime and their lunch. You even give him the task of awarding stickers and you feel yourself melt as he carefully places the stickers on each child’s clothing and gives them a few words of congratulations. It’s beyond cute to see this large warrior interact so gently with these little children. The children are all in awe of him and as the day winds down, they start to beg him to talk more about himself.
“It is time for our story of the day,” you explain and you take a seat on the soft carpet in the library nook of your room, “Usually I read a book, but I think a tale from the Mand’alor himself, would be very entertaining.”
Din looks at the children’s faces and he hears a few pleas for him to tell a story, “Alright, I suppose I could.” He settles himself on the carpet too with Grogu on his lap. Another little child immediately comes to sit right next to him, and before Din knows it, the little ones are all crowded around him looking up at him, expectantly. He looks at you and you give him an encouraging smile and a nod.
“I suppose I could tell you about the story behind Grogu’s picture over there,” Din says, and then he tells the story of the Krayt dragon on Tatooine.
You listen to Din’s incredible tale, you’re just as engrossed as the children, and when he gets to the climax of the story, letting the horrible beast swallow him, you gasp loudly and clutch your hands to your chest. You can’t believe he would take such a daring risk, but it proves your point that this is an incredible man. When the story finishes, you applaud along with the children, equally as impressed as they are.
“Well, that was quite a lovely treat for us all. Before we leave today, let’s everyone thank Mand’alor Djarin for his visit today,” you address the children and you watch as each one lines up to shake his hand and say ‘thank you’. You help the children collect their things as they leave, and you see that Din and Grogu have waited until everyone else has gone.
“Thank you for letting me be a part of your class today, I really enjoyed myself,” Din tells you.

I was talking about anxiety, and here it is:
We’re back to the verse. “Under the surface, I hide my nerves and it worsens, I worry something is gonna hurt us.” That dissonance between what she’s showing and what she’s saying is back. She worries, it worsens, but she’s posing, ready to stop an avalanche. Mirabel is a beat behind, still putting together what Luisa’s telling her even while Luisa’s once again putting her body between Mirabel and danger.

Ok I have to go off about Luisa’s look for a minute because I’ve been watching Encanto daily (sometimes twice a day) in that honeymoon phase of wanting to see every detail and I’m quietly taking notes on her outfit so I can make it for myself and I have a lot to say about it
So it’s clear her whole look is about practicality, right, she’s sweet, she’s femme, but she has a lot of manual labor to do on the daily and her whole self-worth is riding on doing it well. So everything she’s got going on is supporting that goal!
Her hair: gorgeous, I would pay so much money to see it down, but she can’t afford to have it in her face or in the way. So she’s got it braided on the side, which is pretty and decorative but also a braid can sometimes hold onto your little short tendrils that would pop out of a regular ponytail, and we know she has some little tendrils!
Also, the bun! It bounces like it’s not super tight, so probably she’s not taking a ton of time in the morning to get it precise--again, it’s a practical choice, she’s working out before the coffee’s even ready. A quick bun is up off her neck, out of her face, nothing dangling that’s gonna get caught on the bottom of a church or whatever. She has a nice thick ribbon for it too, because all that hair is probably pretty heavy.

I started reading Pamela Des Barres "I'm With The Band - Confessions of a Groupie" and... Haha, wow 😄
She starts out as Beatles fan as a teenager, and she's head over heels in lust/love with Paul McCartney. Although her experiences are from a different age (almost 60 years ago, no internet), there are so many parallels to how bandom still works, I had to write them down.
There's the "I'm English now"-thing...
Hello Diary, Paul, you are gear. Really Fab. Say chum, why are you so marvelous, luv? The most bloomin’ idiot on earth is me, cause I’m wild over you chap.

...the worry over her beloved's love life...
He’s NOT, He’s NOT!!! Brian Epstein sent a cablegram to Columbia Records to announce; Paul’s getting married is completely and ridiculously untrue . . . Brian Epstein. YAY!!!! There’s no queen for my king YET!
...and an unabashed obsession with crotch shots:
I collected Beatle bubble-gum cards, and one of them was a shot of Paul playing his bass, sitting on a bed in a hotel with his legs apart. You could actually see the shape of his balls being crushed by the tightness of his trousers, and I carried that card around with me in a little gold box with cotton covering it like it was a precious jewel. I peeked into it reverently, once a day, and lifted the cotton gently, holding my breath as I stared between his legs at the eighth wonder of the world.

I played John and myself, and [Linda] played Paul and herself. We could switch personalities with the flick of an accent. We took each other to parties and concerts, we ate dinner in gorgeous restaurants on Aunt Edna’s patio, and professed undying love with semiperfect working-class Liverpudlian accents. At night, we played all four people at the same time, when we would lie entwined in each other’s arms, pressing our four sets of lips together in an eternal expression of Beatle Love.

[...] Stumbling through the dark living room, to the bedroom, Paul quietly opened the door. There you lay. Your blonde hair tossed carelessly, but beauteously over the pillow, your pink lips still wearing the smile they had as you fell asleep. Paul thought he had never seen anything quite so luscious . . . or so tempting.

I brazenly created in pink and red oil colors my concept of what his balls might look like. I turned it in to Mr. Gifford as a modern-art project and got an A.

Dear Pam, I suppose you are wondering why Linda, Stevie and I acted the way we did after school yesterday. The main reason is because you are a phony person. You had better watch out before you become completely friendless. Why on earth could you even start to like Mick over Paul? [...] I thought I knew you real well, you were always so enthusiastic about the Beatles and now you’re a Rolling Stones fan. I don’t see how you could pick them over The Beatles unless . . . you were being a phony all that time.
Her reply:
I have very sensible answers to your ridiculous questions. Paul and Mick cannot be compared. They are two opposite types with two opposite types of love connected with them. I have not taken the Stones over The Beatles. I have just let them become a part of my life too. Is that so wrong? The Beatles can never be topped, but the Stones will never be topped either. Oh, you don’t understand. They play two different types of music. They cannot be compared.

Of course, she then goes on to actually meet Mick Jagger (and his balls), so that's where her experience differs from most fans 😄

On Fandom
In light of recent kerfuffles, I decided to share this. Communication is helpful for fandom discussions. That’s why I’m offering up my perspective.
@little-lynx, your artwork is beautiful, and I thoroughly enjoy seeing it on my dash. Your post sharing how and why you joined the fandom is fascinating, and I’m grateful you trusted us with it. I hope you continue sharing and drawing for stories that inspire you, and that you’re able to find more stories and authors that do. That’s not to say you’re not doing enough. Whatever you want to share is awesome. I only say that because there’s so much Everlark out there that is wonderful. I hope you’re able to find more that you enjoy. If you ever read something of mine and are inspired to create, I will be thrilled. If not, I will continue to appreciate what you contribute to the fandom. Welcome, and I hope you enjoy being part of The Hunger Games community on tumblr (and AO3 and FFN, if you find works there).
@shesasurvivor, I hear you. I know what it feels like to be overlooked despite being part of a fandom for a long time. I understand the frustration of seeing others celebrated and not being one of those. You’ve been here longer than I have, and you’re one of the few who takes stands that might not be expressed by many but are shared by more than you know. You are an important part of the fandom, and I’m glad you’re still here. I hear you. I see you. You are amazing.
@katnissdoesnotfollowback, you also have very valid points. I know what it feels like to put everything you have into a fandom and it not being enough for some people. I know what it feels like to be overlooked and how it feels to be celebrated. The former sucks, and the latter is wonderful. You are an important part of the fandom, and I appreicate what you can share and wish you well when you’re not able to be here with us.
It’s always tricky to recommend blogs and lists because feelings invariably get hurt—no matter how inclusive they are. I don’t envy those of you who have tried or are attempting to make those. You’re braver than I am.
That said, it is demoralizing to be left off lists repeatedly. It’s equally frustrating to produce works and not feel like the images and/or stories are getting any attention. This is true for new(er) people who are trying to join a fandom (@mandelion82 and @endlessnightlock come to mind), former authors who’ve returned (@awhiskeyriver), and those who were around long ago and stayed for the long haul (I am one of those). Each of us wants to be part of the community. It sucks to feel left out (whether intentional or not). You are all amazing, and I see/hear you.
Yesterday, @eiramrelyat posted fanart she created for one of my stories as a surprise, and I was over the moon. It was a total surprise, and her work is stunningly gorgeous. I am beyond thankful for the gift, and I hope she understands how much it means to me. I’ve been fortunate in the past to receive artwork from @ombradellaluna and @the-tesseract-wrinkling-time and story banners from @xerxia31, @papofglencoe, @maddenmarvels, @burlesonspride, and @ronordmann, and from those who are no longer active on tumblr (loving-mellark, @akai-echo, and @myusernamehere). I am beyond thankful for your gifts.
I’ve been left off lists before, and it’s painful. Although I’m never angry at being left out, I’m often more discouraged and befuddled. I’m always fascinated to see who others view as “essential” while leaving off others. As someone who has been part of the Everlark fandom since 2013, it seems that my name should be recognizable by now. Since I’m often omitted, maybe I’m wrong. It’s not the fault of newcomers for not knowing who I am when my name doesn’t appear on lists of active blogs. How could the new people find me? The frustration comes from being a long-time contributor to the fandom and still not being deemed essential. @lovely-tothe-bone and @mrspeetamellark have both heard my frustration and reached out to me about it. Thank you both for doing so.
I have published 107 Everlark stories on AO3 and more on tumblr.

I helped create the Everlark Holiday Bingo challenge that’s currently running. It would be amazing if those who are writing holiday stories would consider participating. So far, only six people from the Everlark fandom have contributed. One bingo fill is awesome if that’s all you have time to contribute. If you want to do more, please do.

I have participated in the following challenges: nine out of 12 rounds of @promptsinpanem with 21 stories posted, every round of @everlarkficexchange with 16 stories posted and four more forthcoming, three years of @thgseasonofhope (this year’s not yet posted), 17 stories for @talesofpanem, eight stories for @seasonsofeverlark (with one forthcoming), three stories for @everlarkbirthdaydrabbles, 19 stores for @d12drabbles, one story for @loveinpanem-blog’s Valentine’s challenge, two multi-chaptered stories for @everlarkchristmasgifts, one multi-chaptered story for @everlarkvalentinesgifts, three stories for @everlarkianarchives, two stories for @fyeah-everlark’s Secret Santa exchange, three stories for @the-everlark-games, two rounds of the @everlark-your-own-adventure challenge, one for @winterinpanem, one for (the now defunct) wmashgchallenge, one for the Everlark drabble challenge, and one for the Peeta Mellark masturbation series.
Besides those things, I’ve also collaborated with other writers and artists (thanks, @deinde-prandium, @xerxia31, and @thegirlfromoverthepond), and I’ve published more stories that weren’t part of any official challenge. I’ve done these things because I enjoy writing and think it’s important to support the fandom and worthy charitable causes. I don’t participate because I’m looking for praise (although it’s always nice to hear from those who enjoy what I’ve created). My point is that if participating in all those things doesn’t make me an active, essential part of the Everlark fandom or make my name on tumblr or AO3 recognizable, then I simply don’t know what else to do.
As a historian, I think it’s important to know the history of the fandom, so it’s understandable and commendable to read the “classics” of Everlark. There’s a reason Dickens and Chaucer and the Bronte sisters and Edgar Allen Poe are famous. They’ve created stories that have stood the test of time. There are also new gems like The Hunger Games and Harry Potter and The Hating Game. Newer writers are vital to the success of a fandom, as well. I’ve been reading Everlark for seven years, and I still have countless seminal works I’ve not yet read. The same goes for newer writers. I’m trying, but it can be overwhelming. I’m doing the best I can while working as a full-time professor during a global pandemic, writing my own stories, being an active member of my church, being a good aunt to my nephews, supporting my friends and family (many of whom have health problems), and joining another fandom. I’m doing the best I can.
This is longer than most people will want to read, I’m sure, but please know you are not alone in feeling what you do. So many of us feel left out or ignored. So many of us are celebrated. So many of us mean the world to one or more readers/viewers. We all have our reasons for being here, and we are all part of this community. I hope I’ve contributed in at least a tiny way in making you feel welcome while you’re here.

Tutorial on how to install the floating commenting box on AO3
So for those of us who love live-commenting fics, there exists an amazing script tool created by @ravenel and described on this post. Basically the commenting box is floating as you scroll down the text so you can quote/write as you read without incessantly going and returning to/from a text editor.
I made this tutorial on how to install it on either Chrome or Firefox for @missmaxime but then I figured I might as well share it here so anyone else who’s interested could use it.
If you’re using another browser than Chrome or Firefox but know how to add extensions on it, then you can still follow part 2 of this tutorial since Tampermonkey is available for other browsers as well.
Step 1: Install Tampermonkey web extension on your browser
(You can skip this part if you’re used to install browser extensions)
On Chrome: Type chrome://extensions in the address bar. It normally shows your installed extensions.
Click on the menu button in the top left corner of this page. At the bottom there's an button linking to the Chrome Web Store. Click it.
In the web store search bar, type “tampermonkey” and select the first result.
You should land on a page looking like this:
Click on "add to chrome" and follow the installation procedure (you'll have to grant a few permissions for the process to fully complete).
On Firefox: Type about:addons in the address bar. You land on a page listing your already installed addons (if you have any).
In the search bar at the top, type "tampermonkey" and enter. It should bring you to another page looking more or less like this:

How'd you discover TW and MHA, and what do you like about them (kink and non-kink wise)?
Oh, boy...this is a bit of a long story, so I'll try to keep it as succinct as I possibly can. XD
I found out about both franchises because of @calico807. She's done a lot of art for MHA, and in the case of TW...back when the game was first announced, she made a one-page comic featuring Malleus. So that was how I found out the two EXISTED...however, I wouldn't say her work was how I DISCOVERED them. I didn't know anything about them beyond her fanart.
In the case of TW, one day in the loathsome year of 2020 - admittedly BEFORE everything went to Mephisto's Kitchen - I was scrolling through her gallery (I was looking for a specific image I wanted to share with a friend; not someone any of you know), and I found the Malleus image again. I went, "Oh, yeah. I remember that! Hey, I wonder if the game ever got released...?"
So, I went looking, and - by sheer luck - it turned out that was only a WEEK before the game was set to BE released. So I promptly started looking up all the info I could find on the game via its wiki and other sources, and once video walkthroughs were available, I started watching them. The rest is gorgeous lion body-I mean, history. >///>
As for MHA, you can thank @belliesandburps for that one. See, he did a lot of artwork for MHA, too, and he decided to start sharing MHA with me, episode by episode. As he fully expected - I fell in love with it. And he's still sharing it with me, episode by episode, as we speak. (Incidentally, I got him into Moriarty the Patriot AND TW kind of the same way, so...(singing)..."What can I say, except You're Welcome?" ;) )
NOW, in terms of what I like about them? In terms of non-kinky stuff...I love the kind of world MHA creates, above all else. I love how it normalizes superheroes in a pretty interesting way: with things like Marvel and DC, there's always this sense the heroes have to stay secretive, despite the fact there are a BAJILLION of them. In this world, that goes out the window: heroes are just a part of everyday life, and people sort of accept that. That creates an interesting and unique dynamic I haven't really seen before, in terms of how this world functions and operates. There's a lot of other things to love, but I think that singular element is the biggest draw for me: just seeing the way this universe works.
In terms of TW...for those who haven't guessed yet, I'm a big, Big, BIG Disney fan. And I love how Twisted Wonderland...well...TWISTS the characters we know and love in so many interesting ways. Particularly with the central cast at Night Raven. It would have been so easy for them to just make them "Human Scar" or "Male-ficent," or else to make them cliched stock characters who are really only interesting in their crazy costumes and the fact they're handsome as heck. But no! The game goes out of its way to very cleverly and expertly create unique characters who, while certainly owing much to their classic counterparts, do truly stand out as separate characters in their own right who you care about and find interesting for their OWN issues, not just simply as proxies of the villains they are based on. I don't love Leona just because I like Scar, I love Leona BECAUSE I LOVE LEONA AS LEONA. I love seeing how the characters compare and contrast to their original counterparts, and figuring out what makes these boys tick.
Now, as for the kinky side of things? (pauses) I don't want this response to be a novel, so I'm just going to say...(points to Leona for TW and Bakugou for MHA)...that. All of that. That's why. Yes.
