sometimes you have to search up a character on your own blog just to see what a real one is saying about them

Last Line Challenge
Rules: in a new post, show the last line you wrote (or drew) and tag as many people as there are words (or as many as you like).
Tagged by @lothcatthree and @tired-bshocked! <3
This is more like last paragraphs, but here is a bit from the next chapter of Kill the Lights!
If he feels those things down here in this dark, dank hell—his grief and his pain and his anger—he will not be able to think straight. He will collapse beneath the weight of it all, and that won’t do anyone a single bit of good. He has a job to see to.   Snatch those guards out of Palpatine’s orbit.   Help the Jedi however he can.   And stay alive.
Stay alive until Quin and Anakin find him.
He sniffs, breathes in deep, lets the tears that already freed themselves slide down his cheeks, and puts those emotions aside.   Later.   He will handle them later when he can see the sun again. When he has something to cling to other than myth and memory.   A calming and curious presence sweeps into the room like a cool breeze. A glint of silver appears on the far wall. It gets bigger and bigger and brighter and brighter.   An etching appears. A low-to the ground creature with spikes on its sides. Short but sturdy legs. A long tail. A back strong enough, he suspects, that it could carry riders.   He blinks.   He blinks again, worried that this is only a figment brought to life by the all-encompassing spice high.   When he blinks a third time, the etching stays.   And his injured heart, it’s rapid and out-of-rhythm beating, slows down.
I will tag a few folks! @fandomobscura, @ihathbenobiwankenobied, @phoenixflames12, @yourfavoritefridge

I almost never pay attention to fandom competition polls (especially ship polls where the outcome is pretty obvious from the get, at least for the final contenders) but the fact that Quinlan Vos lost smash or pass is gonna be my villain origin story.

everyone: what's your goal in life?
me: to write a story so soul snatching, so gut wrenching and so devastatingly beautiful that it leaves you crying at 3am when you have a 8am lecture/shift and it inspires people to write entire essays, to write entire fanfics, mood boards and playlists based on it.

Pre-order info for Sailing by Gemini's Star coming sooo soon (ebook pre-orders are populating now, non-Amazon print in a week or two since that takes a bit more time to go live once I check the proof, Amazon print you can't buy until the day of release on 5/28) but! I am honestly so excited to have Gemini out in the world. It's my best work to date, I think, and I'm so hype to see what people think of how everything turns out.

Do other writers ever get this like, hyper-specific dialogue exchange drop into their brains and you know exactly where these character are standing and what they’re doing and how they’re saying these words but that’s all you get. You don’t have much other context and this specific moment that exists only at this time in your headspace??

I just have the final two scenes in Gemini's Star left to proofread before I write my acknowledgments, finalize my formatting, and get everything uploaded for pre-order (and getting my test physical copy) and it feels ... wild to say that. This project started all the way back in 2015, and is a huge part of who I am. There is the potential for further additions to this universe, but this original trilogy? Is about to be complete. And I really can't believe it.

Suddenly struck with a need to explain to you how boat pronouns work (I work in the marine industry).
When you're talking about the design of the boat, you say "it".
When the boat is still being built, your say "it".
When the boat is nearing completion, you can say "it" or "she".
When the boat is floating in the water you probably say "she", unless there is still a lot of work to be done (e.g. no engine yet) then you say "it".
When the boat is officially launched and operating, you say "she". If you continue to say "it" at this point you are not incorrect but suspiciously untraditional. You are not playing the game.
If you are referring to a boat you don't really know anything about you may say "it" ("there's a big boat, it's coming this way"). But if you know its name, it's probably "she" ("there's the Waverley, she's on her way to Greenock").
If you are talking about boats in general, you say "it" ("when a boat is hit by a wave it heels over")
If you speak about a boat in complimentary terms, it's "she" ("she's a grand boat"). If you are being disparaging it may be it, but not necessarily ("it's as ugly as sin", "she's a grotty old tub").
If she has a boy's name, she's still she. "Boy James", "King Edward", "Sir David Attenborough"? The pronoun is she.
If it's a dumb barge (no engine), you say it. But if it's a rowing boat (no engine), you say she.
I hope this has cleared things up so that you may not be in danger of misgendering floating objects.
