while it's nice to see Vivzie finally acknowledge Stella is worthy of pity 'in her own way' (something about the phrasing on that tweet rubs me the wrong way tbh, feels like they're implying her pain is like less important or valid or something? might just be me) it's kind of frustrating to see the end of the tweet say 'that doesn't absolve her of the pain she's caused', because like

like sure there are Stella stans who unironically say she was in the right to order a hit on him and it's fair retribution, but I don't think they're the majority

the majority of fans & former fans I've seen are just frustrated at how much of a caricature Stella is; as a portrait of an abuser she's incredibly poorly done and as an intended Hate Sink with no redeeming qualities she's frustrating because her backstory is just as tragic as Stolas', arguably more so because she has way less power & social mobility than him yet we're supposed to treat her like an irreedemable monster because the writers decided she was evil since birth.

I don't pity her because I like her or because I excuse anything she's said or done to Stolas. I pity her because I look at her backstory and can easily imagine how much of a nightmare her life is & how the fandom only ever seems to consider the 'arranged marriage' part of it and not the laundry list of other things that are awful about Stella's life. And I pity her because she reminds me of people IRL - mostly women - who are stuck in awful circumstances then are victimized twice by people who, if they even recognize the circumstances are bad, don't care about how that influences the person they currently are or why they behave in ways that seem inexplicable to us

for example the whole Stella likes throwing parties thing. we're obviously supposed to take it as a sign she's vapid and shallow, but what else is she supposed to do? at least if she throws parties misery can have company & her friends can visit. We see Stolas make fun of her for not knowing how to spell, but was she ever expected to be literate or allowed to have interests outside of raising a child she didn't want? the show just doesn't care to answer what society looks like for someone in her position. her interests only matter insofar as they provide a vector for the viewer to hate her some more

(going back to the recent discussions around MLP it's so noticeable they went out of their way to avoid 'stereotypical feminine interest = worthy of scorn' by having Rarity & Pinkie's interests be fashion and parties and the rest of the cast being chill about that even if they don't share that enthusiasm)

I know there are some proposed fix it scenarios in your inbox that often throw in 'and then Striker kills Stolas' as a closer but like even those don't sound like they approve of Stella or anything she does. far as I can tell they just hate Stolas and are tired of him because the show keeps insisting he's a perfect angel who never means to hurt anyone so that makes it OK. there's no chance of getting any catharsis seeing Blitzo or anyone else stand up to him, so we have to imagine it. It's even more galling considering Stella keeps most of her ire focused on Stolas whereas Stolas is exploiting and gaslighting a member of the lower classes. I mean at least Stella seems to have no delusions about who or what she is, she knows she's being awful and she revels in it. Stolas meanwhile is in total delusion about who he is and what he's done & the show is running out of chances to fix that

so like yeah, nothing Stella has suffered absolves her of her treatment of Stolas. But that exact logic applies to Stolas, too, yet the show wants us to show him more than pity - it expects us to like and empathize with him while he frees Blitzo from sexual slavery mainly because he feels entitled to love & affection that he's not getting and was never owed

That's what it boils down to, really. Stella's not allowed a free pass, while Stolas is allowed to hurt whoever he wants for any reason.

Claire, Richie and Fak keep treating Carmy like a child

In the long list of 🤨momments I had while watching Claire, are those when she literally said to Carmy, in a cute flirty voice, a version of “why don't you say this” and Carmy goes an says it. It happened twice as I recall. When she said “say one more time (that you wanted to have my number) and the other when they were helping that drunk girl at the party (that saint Claire ended up abandon either way) and she asked Carmy to repeat something. The show is making a point to tell us how much Carmy may have never pursue a relationship with this her (mind you, even Claire said they were never close growing up) if his family had not pushed him in that direction.

Is not about “oh he is shy so he needs help” or that he is mentally ill. Loving someone doesn't mean taking away their agency. If anything If you love “molding” somebody, you just love the person they are after you molded them.

I think that comes back to his panicky attack. He seems unable to detach Claire from all the horrible memories and wounds related to his family. He may even feel that to be with with her, but he must be “molded” to all those expectations, theirs and hers. Do with that what you will.

So I recently made this post that compared Kanako with another video game character. And I thought it would be funny to have people guess the character. And someone got it.

It was Spooky from Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion. Now I am just making this post to explain the comparisons.

And the part about hurting children is about how Ceroba tried to kill Clover. Meanwhile, Spooky's father and everything about the "Doll Project". In short, the "Doll Project" was a project trying to use dolls as containers to tether the spirits back to the earth. Many spirits were children who died. And let's just say that they weren't treated well by the lab staff... "When they act out, it's necessary to inflict pressure on the husk inhabited by the spirit. Because in the Hooked Doll's death scene, when you die to her, there's text saying, "A 'wicked nasty' child was thrown into a pit. No food, light, or water was ever given to it." and you find a pit in the area where you find the Hooked Doll. So it implies that the spirit inside the Hooked Doll was killed by the staff to be used as a spirit in the project. And Spooky's father, being the director of the project, also gets the blame for letting his staff do this.

"AND THAT SAID, PARENT HAS A DEAD PARTNER WHO HAS A DEATH WISH THAT IS IGNORED BY THE ALIVE PARTNER."

This comparison was about how Ceroba's husband, Chujin, is dead. While Spooky's father's wife, Monica, is dead.

The death wish part is about how Chujin didn't want Kanako to be involved in his work. While Monica wanted her husband to just let their daughter rest. "I'm still going to try to save our daughter. I know it's not what you wanted, but I've already gone too far." -Spooky's father.

And it's kind of funny how Ceroba and Spooky's father only respect the parts that don't involve their children. Like Ceroba follows with Chujin's wish to finish his work. While Spooky's father respects Monica's wishes and let's her rest. "Although it was difficult, I've respected your wishes and let you rest." -Spooky's father.

And another thing is that you visit their graves in the games. And they are located in garden areas.

"AND BOTH OF YOU ARE ALIVE, EVEN THOUGH YOU TWO ARE SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD. AND BOTH OF YOU WERE STUCK IN BUILDINGS THAT YOU GIRLS COULDN'T LEAVE."

This comparison was about how Kanako was kept alive by being transformed into an Amalgamate. And how Spooky was bought back has a ghost.

And the part about them being trapped in a building is about how Kanako was trapped in the True Lab. While Spooky's spirit is tethered to the mansion itself, so she can't leave.

"AND BOTH OF YOUR DADS DID EXPERIMENTS WITH CHILDREN SOULS."

This comparison was about how Chujin did experiments with Integrity soul. While Spooky's father being the director of the "Doll Project".

Another comparison that I made is that in Spooky's story mode, you find a GL Labs facility in room 120. And later in the game, you find another GL Labs facility deeper underground in room 610, which has its power out, so you need to find the generator to leave this facility. Which is kind of like Undertale. You find a lab, that later in the game you find out that has another lab under it, and the power goes out, making you go find the generator to leave that second lab.

And in the first lab, you get attacked by a monster that comes through a hole that they made. And both of these monsters were tecnically developed by scientists.

While in the second lab, you get ambushed by the creatures living around there when you turn the power back on to leave.

When I first made this comparison in my head, I just thought, "Huh. That's funny." But the more time I spent thinking, the more I realized that there's a lot more comparison between the Ketsukane family and Spooky's family… And I don't know if I'm stretching these comparisons or not...
