Fuck whatever DC is doing with the al Ghul's characterizations and story lines, I've decided that from now on the al Ghul's are gonna be DC's version of the Addams Family instead.
Now I don't mean just give the various al Ghul's the exact personalities of the various Addams and call it a day. That's boring, that erases all the interesting parts of the al Ghuls, that's just using "find & replace" and not actually adding anything. I mean give them the vibes of the Addams Family.
Keep the al Ghul's as the al Ghul's with all their scheming and machinations and world domination attempts but give them all the unhinged energy, the casually insane view of the world, the deranged levels of love and devotion for family. Make them that group where objectively they are batshit insane but also you cannot argue with the fact that they are indisputably the most stable and functional family in the entire universe.
They're creepy, they're kooky, they're mysterious and spooky. Ra's many opulent homes and impenetrable fortresses are a museum and the al Ghul's really are a screa-um whenever people come to see-um (or when they lay waste upon their enemies in a surprise attack that has been planned for months and is just the first domino in a series that will ultimately lead to achieving a far greater goal).
They all love each other and want each other to be happy, they express this primarily with stabbing and murder attempts (its fine, death is a thing that happens to other people).
And forget the League of Assassins being a cult. Just make the whole vast globe spanning organization a collection of cousins/aunts/uncles/dear old friends ect. No one (not even the al Ghuls, if they cared to keep track of such things) is sure who is actually related to them and who just got absorbed into the ever expanding family tree based on their vibes being right.
(Is Sensei Ra's father you ask? Well he's certainly someone's father - probably.
Anyway have you heard about Cousin Cheshire? Despicable poisoner of a young woman, capable of the most horrific things imaginable - yes she is the sweetest dear. Like I was saying though, she just had a baby!
Everyone in the family is just so excited to throw a baby shower to celebrate! Ubu has really gone all out with the spike traps, he does so love getting to welcome a new addition to the family.
Talia of course has cultivated a brand new strain of the most toxic plants imaginable to make a brand new kind of necrotizing poison. You know, as a nice little romantic gift for Cousin Cheshire and that young man of hers. It really is so important to make sure you take time for you and your partner to go on dates and have a few pitched battles to the death on dark rooftops in the pounding rain when you have children.
Now there is some to-do about it all of course, you know how family get together can be. Everyone is arguing over who should get to give little Lian her first weapon and what it should be. Nyssa is pushing for grenades but Ra's is insisting on a sword - he's traditional like that you know - but Dusan has the vote so far on throwing knives. You know the kind that have the little divots along the edges of the blades them to make it easier to get the poison you dip them in to stick.)
I'm just saying that the al Ghuls should be a delightful cross between the Bond Villains they were originally conceived as and the lovingly unhinged Addams Family. It just feels correct in my heart.
(Again keep the interesting aspects of the characters and the nuances of who each of them are like their drive to save the world through destroying humanity and their strong environmentalist leanings and their constantly playing 5D chess and everything, but like, take away the racism and the cartoonishly evil for no reason bullshit and give them some fun feral energy to go along with it).

jordan taking care of a sick marie. (can supes get a cold?? idk… anyways 🩵)
word count: 819
-
autumn had hit godolkin with a vengeance, the trees were pretty and the air left a chill on exposed skin. it was beautiful. what wasn’t beautiful was a cold going around that was hitting some of the students.
they weren’t sure why it was hitting some and not others, but jordan didn’t really care about that. they managed to dodge and weave the bug going around — they were much too busy to get sick.
that wasn’t the case for marie though.
jordan had sent a text to marie earlier that morning, asking where she was. it was unlike her to not meet in the common area of the crimefighting building, it was jordan’s turn to buy them a morning coffee that saturday before they had to do some work as a t.a.
frustrated after a third missed text, jordan held onto the two coffees with a tight grip and began walking out into the open space of the campus with an intense demeanour. you would think that someone pissed them off.
that’s when they saw emma, their brown eyes widening as they called out, “emma! where the hell is marie?” they asked, lowering their voice in the last sentence as they hustled in her direction.
the blonde looked over at them, having been fully absorbed in the comment section of her most recent upload. she blinked a few times as she watched jordan walking towards her with ferocity, needing to look up just the slightest due to jordan’s height in their male form.
“hey, hey,” she raised her hands, “just because i’m her roommate doesn’t mean i have to be her messenger,” she teased, but jordan’s face reminded her that they weren’t one to mess with, “jesus, dude. she’s got that cold going around. be careful in there, it’s hazardous!” she had to call the last part out because jordan had already started walking away.
with a racing heart and clammy hands, jordan pushed their way past students until they reached the dormitories. the path to marie’s dorm room was one they memorized, taking less then a couple minutes before they were using their foot to kick a few thumps against the door.
“marie?” they called out, putting their ear to the door and giving awkward, tight lipped smiles to students walking by and looking with interest.
“it’s open.” spoke a weak voice from the other side of the door, muffled and cracking. oh god.
jordan had to handle the two coffees in one hand as they opened the door, eyes widening when they saw marie in her bed. she was laying on her side, brown eyes glazed over and a bit red. she coughed, cringing at the pain.
“fuck, marie, why didn’t you text me?” jordan asked her, using their foot to shut the door behind them. as they walked closer to her, their form switched into their female body, expression softening.
“too tired to look at my phone.” she croaked, trying to sit up, but jordan quickly shook their head.
“don’t move. just rest,” they assured her, placing the coffees on the table between the two beds. they turned their attention to her, sitting on the edge of the bed and reaching out with a gentle hand so they could press the back of it to her cheeks, then her forehead, “you’re burning up.” they murmured, frowning.
"is that bad?" she asked, having grown up in a facility, she wasn't used to being sick. maybe once or twice as a teenager. she'd forgotten how awful it felt, how it made your bones ache and your throat feel like it was coated in needles.
"you'll be okay." jordan's voice was full of care as they smiled, wiping some budding sweat off of marie's forehead, "might feel like shit for a couple days, but you'll be okay. i promise."
marie gave a weak smile up to jordan, already feeling better in their presence. "i don't want to get you sick."
"who cares?" they quipped back,” let me take care of you."
marie didn't answer back, she only nodded.
jordan did exactly what they said they would. they took the day off from their t.a. work and ran around grabbing everything they could find after googling 'cold remedies': chicken noodle soup, orange juice, cold and flu medicine, lozenges, hot tea and a fuck ton of water bottles.
it wasn't until sunday night that marie began feeling better, able to sit up in her bed with jordan as they watched some stupid vought romcom. their hands were intertwined, jordan's hand a bit larger than her own as they held her against their side close to keep her warm.
"thank you." marie whispered, tilting her head back to look up at jordan with a tiny smile.
jordan's lips cracked into a smile as they met her gaze, answering with a kiss to her forehead and a gentle squeeze of her hand.

i haven't played minecraft in years, but with the armadillo winning the vote, i think about how wolves don't really have much going on in terms of their utility. like anytime i tame a wolf, i end up just kinda keeping them sitting at home.
i think if mojang really does feel like wolves are deserving of armour, with the addition of armadillos, they really need to update wolves to be more useful as companion mobs, because personally... i never feel the urge to bring a wolf with me when im going out to do things, especially if it involves combat.
like, what do dogs do best? fetching stuff and digging, right? like i wish that i could just mill about with a wolf and they track a scent or something and start digging into the dirt and then proceed to bring you that item. like it could range from rarely digging up iron nuggets to digging up vegetables or whatever, yknow. combine the fetching stuff with combat and you wouldn't have to manually pick up stray arrows or items from mobs your wolf kills.
the only other thing i wish you could do with wolves is automate their health in some way, like give more utility to the bowl item so you can place it down for them to eat from so you don't have to constantly manage their health by looking at their tail. just minor quality of life stuff i guess.
idk, that's just my thoughts. i do like wolves in minecraft, they just feel rather lacking with the way some new mobs have so much going on, like the sniffer and allay and so on.
