“shit— how the fuck does this wor— ‘kay, got it.” toji can hear the shuffling in the back, “we’re out of eggs too, jiji. please bring them while on your way, love.” he hears a small breath, “i love you, come soon i’m makin’—” then he hears a baby crying in the back, “shit— gotta go. gumi’s up. come soon, honey.” and the voicemessage ends.

he chuckles, the ache of his body spreading across his limbs slowly.

then he clicks to the next voicemail.

“ow— MEGUMI GET BACK HERE—” he hears you yell. it makes him chuckle too. “toji, can you bring the diapers for ‘gumi? i forgot to add them to the list. thanks, be quick, bye bye, come home soo— MEGUMI STOP WEARING YOUR DIAPER ON YOUR HEAD—” he hears some more shuffling, until he doesn’t and the voicemail clicks off.

he laughs. the quiet rustling of the leaves tainted by the pooling moon kissing his aching limbs along a breeze, a struggled breath passing his lips when the laugh dissolves.

then, he clicks on the most recent voicemessage.

“jiji… i- i just— i’m sorry,” he can tell you’ve been crying, “i- i forgive you, i don’t care anymore i don’t care if you kill people, just— fuck—" he hears your breath catch somewhere beneath your ribs, in a sob before you steal yourself. it makes his heart shatter into million pieces more, “come back… please… i miss you and—” another breathy pause, “and i love you. i don’t—” he hears a small sniffle, “please come back home. safe. please. i miss you.” and the voice message ends with a click he dreads to listen.

against the gleaming moon, the stars coruscate over the puddle of blood piling by whatever’s left of his body. his last breaths swallowed by the last sensations of contentedness. his consciousness is blacking out and drowning the thoughts of what little he had to think about in his last moments with his guts splattered about. yet, he want content. content that your voicemails won’t go unlistened.

that you still love him.

and when his eyes are closing, dwelling within the promised eternal peace, his mind paints a picture of you. of your smile. and of those tears spilling from your eyes because of him.

“i’m sorry.” he says once more, in a whisper or a breath, not sure if it was voiced, hoping somehow you’d listen to him.

God knows he loved you. so, so, so much. and God knows how he’d beg Him to forgive him for ever making you cry. because in his eyes, the only sin he’s ever committed is breaking your heart.

just love hearing kieran culkin talk about succession/roman because he always talks about, like, the process of it and it’s so interesting — the scenes that are kept, the scenes that are taken out, the choices writers made he didn’t agree with, the choices he made that the writers (originally) didn’t agree with…. always really hammers in not only how collaborative the show is in that input from the actors is taken very seriously but also just how much culkin cares about roman like as a character? which i mean ya know all actors do. but culkin always talks about being a fan of the show first and an actor in it second and i think that’s such a huge thing. like, the way he cares about roman isn’t just as the actor playing him, it’s as a fan of the show — he’s approaching it not just from, like, a This Is My Job angle but also from the perspective of a fan who is just genuinely invested in the character of roman and would feel frustrated if they saw him do something that didn’t feel in-line with his character! kc would hate tumblr just like he hates all social media but he would indeed kill it on here
