November for My Personified Months!
Continuing the trend with things I've never drawn before, I wanted to try designing a seal character for November! I also wanted to try drawing them as a wheelchair user since I don't see disabled characters represented in artwork very much. Their colors were also very inspired by pine forests, which I associate with November more strongly compared to December for whatever reason lol. I hope I did them justice!

RAINCODE COMIC DUB~🎙️
NEW PROJECT ALERT!
Story takes place at the start of Chapter 4 (MINOR SPOILERS)
Comic Title drawn by Kazin (as well as the whole comic)
Tumblr media
Here's the Dub! Vocals and Editing done by me 🎙️📑 Enjoy!!
Further Rambling Below
Hehe I bet you all didn't think voice acting was among my list of hidden hobbies/talents didja? (I’m just full of surprises x3) Well... I can only hope that I delivered well enough here. (please feel free to laugh at my attempted Yakou voice… LMAO)
So this is yet another collab project that @kazinsblog and I did together. The story is based on a kokowendy ch4 canon divergent skit that I made way back last fall. When Kazin saw it, she wanted to make it into a full comic. I didn't protest (I never do LOL) but then I wanted to try something.
I've never attempted a solo dub of a comic before, and honestly I didn't think I would with RainCode due to a majority of the characters being male. Sadly with my naturally high voice I can only do so much with attempting male voices. I usually only do female or child character voices.
But since Kurumi is the lead role of this story, and has the most lines, I decided to give it a try. I do love Kurumi (she's my best girl) so I hope I did her justice here. I like to think I did her voice fairly well. I struggled a bit with the guys (and Halara) but I think my Yuma is decent enough... x'D (plus it was really fun making him sound tired and out of breath :3)
I do enjoy Kokowendy as a ship, though I'm not a huge shipper. But these two are just too cute... ;w; So I think a scenario like this suits them both. Plus it gives Kurumi a chance to be reliable and try to help her beloved hero in his time of need <3 Honestly it can even be seen as platonic. Its very tame (the only small hint is that Yuma blushes at some point, but that's it)
I had a lot of fun doing this!! I got the voices and editing done in only 3 days, so it’s definitely not a long lasting project. (on my end anyway) But I still think it’s a pretty big project with all of the work both of us did. Editing the video was probably the most fun part for me >w< I knew exactly what BGM and sound effects I wanted months in advance c: I only hope I did the editing style of it right. Comic dubs are very peculiar in the way they’re done… 💦 (also no I’m not putting this on YouTube, this is a tumblr exclusive ONLY! And I give NOBODY permission to re-upload it without my consent!)
I’m not sure if I'm the first that's attempted a RC comic dub before, but if I am, then I am very happy c: Idk if I'll do another full one though. Like I said too many of the characters are male... x'D This may be a one time thing for me here. But if I were to do one, I figured why not on a comic that was made specifically for me? c: (ty again kazin!💕)
Anyway I'm done yapping now, I hope you all enjoy! 💜 Feel free to let me know what you think or which role you enjoyed from me the most! (tho I think the answer is obvious lol)

See You Again
Tumblr media
I'm actually posting a fic for the first time in seven months aka the first fic I've finished in seven months peace love teaching
anyway, I wrote this for the lovely @wyattjohnston's summer fic exchange! I got to write for @selfindulgentpoorlywritten but I've never written for Nico before, so I hope you like this (I was fully inspired by my own mess of a life)
Edit since I’m a dumbass thank you to @kat-hearts for reading this first and being amazing ily 😭
One of the characters, Nat is nonbinary, and I did my best to make the reader gender netural, which I haven't done before on either account, so I hope I did it justice (if something is glaringly wrong, please let me know!)
Warnings: I was mean with the ending? A little? Also, some swearing, drinking, almost physical fighting
Word Count: almost 2.8k
_______________________________________
“When was the last time you saw him?”
You tried to shift through your memory to figure that out. In person, the last time was sometime in the first week of December about two years ago. Thinking about him, which thankfully didn’t count, would involve you giving a much more recent answer, way more recent than you would really like to admit. “I don’t remember.”
“Well,” your roommate Nat says, looking down at their phone. “I have bad news.”
“Fucking hell,” you moan, tilting your head to hit the back of the seat of the Uber. You knew what they were going to say before the words even started to come out of their mouth.
“Nico is going to be there tonight. With all the guys.” You let out another groan, the Uber driver giving you a scowl through the rearview mirror. “I’m sorry! Jack didn’t know he was coming, or he would have told us way before we got ready.”
You stare out the window, trying to think of all the ways that you could get out of this situation. You already paid for the Uber and didn’t want to pay for another one. You weren’t about to go somewhere by yourself, especially since the bar you were heading towards wasn’t within a reasonable walking distance if you were to go somewhere by yourself, and no way was Nat going to leave with you without Jack, and Jack, of course, wasn't going to leave without his teammates.
“We can go back right now and I’ll tell Jack to have fun with his team instead,” Nat tells you as if they could read your mind. They put their hand over yours, trying to give you any sense of calm that was setting into your panic. “We do not have to be around Nico.”
“What kind of person tells someone they like them but not enough to date them?” you mutter, knowing you and Nat have had this conversation many times on your kitchen floor, drunk and crying together at 2 in the morning. They had introduced you to Nico one night after a game when the team went out to celebrate. They had been dating Jack for about a year at that point, meeting him through his brother at Michigan and reconnecting when they both realized they were going to be in New Jersey together. Quinn had used the reasoning of, “he won’t know anyone in the state,” only for everyone to realize later that he knew Jack had been smitten with Nat since they met. If only you had been so lucky.
You had known of Nico, obviously. How could you not? He was the captain of the Devils, the team you grew up surrounded by, the number one draft pick in the sport your roommate never shut up about. He covered your social media feeds without you really wanting them to and everyone you knew talked about what a great game he had the night before. You couldn’t escape the idea of him, no matter where you went.
When you met him that night a few years back, there was something about him in person that you were drawn to. He had been just an idea to you, not someone you could think about as being real. You spent that entire night with him, your friends either wandering off or you too enthralled with Nico to notice that they were there. Nat and Jack were heading back to your place before last call, and you were left knowing that you had to see Nico again.
He asked if he could kiss you, making you melt as his hand gently snaked its way to your cheek, pulling you close when you said yes and covering your mouth with his. You waited for his text the next day, anxiously checking your phone until he finally did after 3 pm. From then on, you told each other everything, texting each other whenever you could, him calling you and heading over to your apartment whenever he didn’t have an obligation to the team. You fell hard for him and you had believed that he felt the same about you.
“The kind of person who doesn’t know what they have until it’s gone,” Nat tells you, trying to pep you up. “Hey, we can find you a guy that is just as hot as Nico tonight.”
“I’m gonna move to Ireland and isolate myself with the spuds.”
“Act like you can be away from me for that long,” they tease, earning a laugh from you. “I’m serious, though. Tell me what you want to do, or who you want to do, and Jack and I will make it happen.”
You didn’t want someone just as hot as Nico, you wanted Nico. You hated the fact that there was more than one time that you had pulled up his messages on your phone, part of you unable to delete that conversation thread even though you knew it would be the healthy thing to do. But you weren’t known amongst your friends for doing what was best for your mental wellbeing, so you kept them, going back through the conversations you had in the four months you were seeing him. The last text was what haunted you the most, him telling you that he was going to be back in Switzerland for the summer and that he ‘didn’t want you tied down to one person’ while he was gone.
He said he would text you when he was back.
He never did.
There were multiple times when you wanted to text him, but you never did, either.
“Yeah,” you manage to choke out. “Let’s do it.”
You spend the rest of the ride in silence, trying to think of where in the bar you would be able to hide from Nico so that he wouldn’t see you. The guys were already inside, Jack telling Nat about 10 minutes ago that they went to start drinking as fast as they could.
The bar was somehow muggy inside, as if the beer itself hung in the air rather than the sweat of the nearly one hundred drunk people that were crowding every square inch of the floor. Jack was easy to spot for Nat, his five foot eleven frame not the largest of his teammates, but still distinct enough that your roommate had left your side within seconds of entering to be with their partner.
So much for finding you someone tonight.
You tried to stay away from him, closer to Nat and Jack as best as you could, but they kept wandering off from you. The last thing you wanted to do was go with them when they were both on their way to drunk and have a history of doing slightly illegal things in the bathrooms at bars.
You had to find someone to talk to. Any person who looked interesting. Any other guy on the team who you were friends with, but that was really only Jack, and that was really only because he’s dating Nat. Your phone was your only comfort, finding a table that had been pushed up against the wall and hoping that there was something you could doom scroll on that would distract you from looking towards Nico.
He had the right to do what he wanted at the bar with his teammates. You weren’t together.
“You ok?” you hear during a lull in the music, pulling you away from your phone for a moment. You didn’t know who was standing in front of you, one of the newer guys from the trade deadline that Nat definitely hadn’t introduced you to. He was waiting for you to respond, looking like he had wanted to sit down with you.
“Yeah, just, not a big ‘going out’ person.”
He lets out a nervous laugh, a smile that sends a jolt through your system that you hadn’t felt in a while. Since Nico, if you were really willing to be honest with yourself. “Me neither, honestly. I’m just here because I didn’t have anything else to do.”
“I got dragged here with my roommate so they can be with their boyfriend,” you tell him, gesturing to Nat and Jack trying their best to sneak out of the bathroom, Jack’s shirt buttoned wrong, both of their previously neatly styled hair in a mess that you only saw after hearing them the night before.
“So that’s the infamous Nat,” he says, taking the seat beside you. You nod as he continues, “Jack never shuts up about them. Not that Jack shuts up about anything or anyone, ever, but especially not Nat.”
“I always knew he was a good one,” you tell him, introducing yourself so he knew you as more than just, ‘his teammate's partner’s roommate.’
“I’m Timo.”
You spent the rest of the night bouncing between the table and the bar with Timo, him buying you every drink you wanted. There was something about him that was different, but you couldn’t focus all of your attention on him.
He was talking about his time in San Jose while you were waiting for your next round of drinks. You couldn’t focus on a word he was saying, Nico within your line of sight talking to a girl. A really attractive girl, you might add. You felt your heart drop, feeling a lump in your throat forming faster than you could lie to yourself about that scene having no effect on you. Naturally, Nico would talk to other people. You hadn’t talked to him in two years, let alone seen him in person. Just because you couldn’t get over him, no matter how hard you tried, that didn’t mean he didn’t get over you.
“And then I got traded here, and I love it, so far,” you tune back into Timo, who is suddenly much closer than you remember. It’s just because the bar is loud, people are starting to crowd for drinks, and, fuck, you have to admit, he’s pretty hot.
Nico was still watching.
Timo took your hand, leading you off to the table where you were before, the drinks in your hand probably not ones that you needed to begin with. His free hand snaked its way to your waist, pulling you close to him. You could feel your heart racing faster with every inch he got closer to you. You wanted him to kiss you.
You thought you did.
“I’m sorry,” you pull away right as his lips were about to meet yours, tears starting to form in your eyes, leaving the drink he bought you in his hands as you ran from him. Your breath catches in your throat while you try to find Nat and Jack, just praying that they weren’t back in the bathroom or too intoxicated in general to help out.
You heard Timo calling after you, somehow, through the volume of the music and your own drunkenness, breaking through and getting to you. You didn’t want Timo calling your name, you wanted it to be Nico.
You needed it to be Nico.
“Hey, hey,” you hear, feeling a familiar hand gently place itself on your arm. You turn around, Nico’s face a mixture of concern and fury. “What did he do?”
“He, he,” you stammer, the tears falling faster the more you looked at him, every memory you had with him suddenly rushing back into your mind. “He didn’t do anything. You did.”
You yank your arm from him, trying to find anywhere to be in the building that didn’t have one of Nico’s teammates looking at you causing a scene. You knew he was following you, calling your name again and again over the music. People were starting to stare, but no part of you cared, trying harder to not let the tears that were burning your eyes fall down your cheeks.
Nat and Jack were nowhere to be seen, the rest of Nico’s teammates trying to figure out what was going on when you burst through the front door of the bar, the cold fall air hitting your face as soon as you did. You let out a sob, trying to steady yourself against the wall of the building, sliding down to the ground while people waiting to get in tried to figure out if they should help you or if you were just another drunk person having some sort of meltdown that was none of their business.
“Hey,” you hear, a soft voice coming from above you. “I’m so sorry if I did something wrong.” Timo slid down next to you. “I read the situation wrong, I thought you were also into me.”
“I am, I just,” you start, trying to think of what to say.
“Hey, what the fuck did you do?” Nico yells, pulling Timo off the ground. “What did he do to make you cry?”
“Nico, stop,” you let out, Timo looking both confused and terrified by his new captain’s hand on his shirt collar. “He didn’t do anything.”
“What the fuck did I miss?” Timo asked, slowly trying to back away from Nico staring you down.
“Why can you talk to other people and I can’t?” you ask him, feeling your sadness turn into anger. “You had no issue not talking to me for the last two years.”
“I’m gonna go,” Timo lets out, barely loud enough for the two of you to hear and sneaking away before you could notice.
“You didn’t want to talk to me,” Nico counters, taking a step towards you. “But you wanted to talk to TImo instead?”
“Where the fuck did you get that idea?”
“You never texted me. You’ve spent the entire night avoiding me. You think I didn’t see you when you were by yourself on your phone?”
“You were in Sweden. And you could have come up to me and talked to me, what was stopping you? Oh, that’s right, your new girlfriend.”
“Switzerland. And she’s not my girlfriend. I haven’t seen anyone in ages.”
“Wherever you were, you weren’t here,” you tell him, your back against the wall. How long had it been since he had last seen someone? There was no way you had been the last person he was with. “You told me you didn’t want to be tied down while you were back home. You didn’t even want to talk to me, because if you did, you would have.”
“You’re joking,” he scoffs. “You think I didn’t want to talk to you? Every fucking day I have thought about how our conversations would go when I saw you after you get home from work. I would think about you telling me about your day, about everything you would tell Nat, or whoever you were seeing at the time. Every single person I saw in the last two years, I wanted them to be you.”
You didn’t know what to say, letting Nico’s words sink in. “Then why didn’t you text me when you came back from Switzerland?”
Nico took in a deep breath, closing his eyes and tilting his head up to the sky. “Because I thought there was no way someone else wouldn’t have realized how amazing you are. There was no way I could be someone who you thought was worth waiting for.”
Nico takes a step towards you, his hand gently taking yours. This was a moment you had been thinking about since he left for Switzerland two years ago. You knew he was going to kiss you, having you pinned against the wall of the building. His free hand cupped your cheek.
“There you guys are!” Nat interrupts, them and Jack clearly having just finished up doing something they weren’t supposed to be doing. Nico steps away from you, clearing his throat, the red in his cheeks so noticeable there was no way even your roommate wouldn’t comment on it later.  “We’ve been looking for you, for um.”
“Long enough,” Jack finishes their sentence, a stupid smile covering his face. You knew he was lying, but no part of your brain was letting you focus on that. Nico leaned against the building, his arm up over your head. “The uber’s almost here. Are you ready to go?”
No. “Yes.”
The three of you leave Nico standing there by himself, Nat and Jack falling asleep in the Uber as soon as it gets on the highway.
You check your phone for the first time in a while, a lone notification popping up on your phone that hadn’t been there in almost two years.
‘Nico, iMessage.’

Beautiful Stranger
Larissa Weems x f!Reader x Beautiful Stranger
Synopsis: You are stuck between falling in love with Larissa Weems and a stranger. How do you pick between the beautiful Larissa weems and your beautiful stranger.
Authors Note: This idea is brought to you by @theonefairygodmother. I hope I did it a bit of justice. Thank you to Sappho for being a gay icon.
Tumblr media
"Good morning, Principal Weems."
You had such a crush on her. She commanded attention when she entered a room. You almost felt like a satellite in her orbit, drawn to her with no hope of ever being released. You weren't holding your breath though, she was always such a professional and you knew she didn't see you as anything more than a coworker.
"Good morning, y/n. How are you today?" Larissa took a seat next to you in the teachers lounge, setting her cup of tea in front of her. You tried not to watch her as she crossed her legs and leaned back into her chair.
"Wonderful now that your here. I mean- I-It's good to see you. Not that it isn't wonderful. I-" You cringe as you stumble over your words, but you are comforted a bit when you see a smirk grace her red lips.
"So eloquent when reading literature to your class, but in one-on-one conversation you always seem to be stumbling over your words." Larissa teased, raising her cup to her lips.
"It's just hard to focus sometimes." Your eyes drift down to her lips, but you stop yourself from letting them linger there.
"Perhaps you are just stressed. Maybe you need to let loose a little bit. There is a new night club over in Burlington." Larissa shrugged, cutting the conversation short when the outcast anatomy and physiology professor walked in the room, "Dr. Thompson, I need to speak to you."
-------
You weren't typically one to go out on the weekends, but Larissa's suggestion really resonated with you. Now that you were there, you really came out of your shell. Happily you took a couple of shots to start the night, wanting to start off strong with straight liquid courage. By 11:00 o'clock you were face-to-face with a beautiful woman who you were determined to woo.
You both leaned onto the bar, your arm was outstretched, fingers lightly dancing across the back of her hand. Her tone of voice was low and seductive, "How come I've never seen you around here before?"
"Turns out I was searching for you in all the wrong places." You reach forward with and loop your fingers through one of her beltloops. You didn't pull on it, however. She stepped towards you through her own volition, her body now pressing to yours. She was so tall. You had to crane your neck to look up at her.
"A romantic are we?" She purred, raising her glass to her lips to finish the rest of the brown liquid before she set it aside.
You raise her hand to your lips, kissing the back of it. You turn her hand over and kiss her palm, "I see you everywhere, in the stars, in the river; to me your everything that exists; the reality of everything."
"Virginia Woolf... Very nice."
"Someone knows their literature..."
-------
You couldn't stop thinking about the woman from the past weekend. All week you had been thinking of her. You were thinking of her fingers grazing over your cheek when Larissa snapped you from your thoughts.
"Good morning, y/n. You have been so quiet this week. Daydreaming are we?" Larissa took her usual seat next to you, setting down a paper plate holding a muffin and a cup of coffee.
"My mind tends to wander, per usual." You heart began to ache. You felt so torn. You still pined for Larissa, but there was something so captivating about that woman from all those nights ago.
"Do share."
You finally looked up into her eyes. You forgot the stranger for a moment, remembering how mesmerizing this woman was before you, "I-I- Well I was thinking of this, uhm, this poem by Virginia Woolf. It, uh- I just-"
"The poem, y/n. What's the poem?" Larissa's smile was pulled into a smirk as she tried to get you back on track.
"I-I have deeply hidden and inarticulate desire for something beyond the daily life."
"Virginia Woolf... Very nice."
------
You decided to wait for her in a back booth, your heart stopping when you saw her enter the bar. You caught her eye as she sauntered over to you. When she was close enough, you took her by the hand, summoning her into the booth next to you. It was just small enough so you were pressed up against one another.
"I was worried I wouldn't see you again." Her head rested on your shoulder as she watched you kiss her palm and begin kissing your way up the inside of her arm.
"How... could I.... keep... myself... from you?" Each little section of words was separated by a kiss. You m moved across her shoulder to her neck.
She hummed in delight. Her head tilted upwards, "Do you have more poetry for me?"
"Awed by her splendor... stars near the lovely... moon cover their own... bright faces... when she... is roundest and lights... earth with her silver." Your lips explored her neck and her hands ran through your hair, a moan leaving the woman's throat.
"...hoping for love... for when I look at you face to face... not even Hermione can compare... and it is no slight to liken you... to golden Helen.... mortal omen; and know this... from all my cares... dewy banks... awake all night."
You nipped at the exposed flesh of her neck, her hands on either side of your face. Her moans persisted as she melted under your touch. She pulled you away from her neck so she could place a searing kiss against her lips. Your arms wrapped around her neck as the needy kiss turned sloppy.
You felt her move and shift beneath your touch.
"Oh, y/n..." She whispered against your lips. Your breath caught, you knew that voice. You opened your eyes, the person now wrapped in your embrace was a panting Larissa Weems. You put everything together in a fraction of a second. The stranger wasn't a stranger at all. The stranger was, in fact, Larissa Weems.
Larissa must have been so distracted while making out that she returned to her normal form.
"Larissa- W-What? What is going on?" You begin to pull away from her, but her hands remain on your face.
"Y/n... I-I can explain. I just, I go out in a different form. It's just easier that way and I just noticed how you look at me at work. I didn't think I would see you out, but then there you were. And you started flirting with me and I didn't want to be dishonest, but it was so nice seeing you not nervous around me." Her words were rapid as she tried explaining everything. She didn't want you to be angry with her.
"I-I- Larissa- I-" There you went again. You were frozen before her. The stranger was beautiful, but she was ethereal. That's how she made you stumble over your words like no one else. You wanted her. You couldn't even be mad at her. You really were a stumbling mess around her.
"Kiss me."
You paused only for a moment before pushing your lips against hers. The kisses were deep and full of wanting until Larissa began smiling against your lips. She began moving down your jaw to your neck, whispering a poem back to you, "Once again... love drives me on... that loosener of limbs... bittersweet creature against which nothing can be done."

Hey there! I hope you have OC interactions open so, may I ask how Matvey would feel about Captain Arjun? ☺️
Hiya !
Matvey's typically avoidant around his superiors besides a spare few but especially Cpt. Price or much of the captains(since everyone seems to have a bad history with his parents.) So he listens or watches before making his silent escape to leave, away from something out of his element or in general turbulent footing. Given the way he sees most of the captains and his dynamics with them he already has a preconception and expectation of Arjun given his current stance on everyone else high on the ladder. Luckily, Arjun's high enough rank to be on the "need to know" list and would likely know what he's getting into. Most of Matvey's preconceptions comes from his own history of being under scrutiny and bad history with authority, so it's hard for him to break out of it without going back into his shell. Arjun and Matvey play off each other as Arjun wanted to be a soldier while Matvey was pushed into a role he was never supposed to play. Arjun would have been there as well when he was first brought in, and it would not have looked pretty at all(malnourishment and blood loss is not a good look.)
So, in regard to Arjun, given his protective nature Matvey would be at first confused and then grumbly on the outside but internally finds it rather endearing but also finds it an obstacle once Matvey's age shows and goes against people's professional concerns, including Arjun's. He's not used to being dependent on people nor those said people actually caring for him without ulterior motives. He finds it odd and unnatural and tries in any way he can to find something that isn't there "cause how could anyone care for me if they're not intending on using me for political games, influence, or money?" Arjun's only way of really getting past Matvey's defenses is proving to him that he means what he says and isn't faking his genuine words out of mere formalities.
Matvey's one weakness is his curiosity, and he does get curious about Arjun's past and would likely surprise Arjun with a few questions about personal things every once and a while, though the tone still feeling like Matvey's holding something back. Though... I do believe they'd bond over their mutual sweet tooths(Matvey is very curious about the new cuisine and food places nearby the base since he now doesn't have to live off of cans.)
Since Matvey's hunted by hired mercs and a large network with a large amount of money banking on his retrieval he's usually told to stay on base along with a protection order so everyone that's high up enough could keep a close eye on him. Though, there are times where he wishes to be "alone" and leaves base without even a note which anyone with a keen eye would notice. Honestly, don't know if Arjun would be amused at the gall of Matvey or just outright scolding him.
I hope I did Captain Arjun justice since I've never drawn people that were well-toned before ! ヽ(⌒∇⌒)ノ I had a lot of fun drawing him so here's Arjun finding him violating his protection order at a cafe both dressed all casual(Matvey of course avoiding the question of why he violated his protection order or why he's off on his own to begin with.) @welldonekhushi

may i please request a jonathan carnahan x reader drabble with prompt 29 please? tysm :)
Absolutely! I hope this is a long the lines of what you were looking for! I've never written for Jonathan before so I hope I did him justice. This was the first idea that popped in my head but I felt him doing something sly and cute was on brand for his character.
Thank you for requesting I had a lot of fun with this :)
Anyways here you go!
Warnings: None. Pure fluff
Not proofread so pls excuse any typos
Being with Jonathan Carnahan was always an adventure. No matter where you two went. Trouble, or at the very least, shenanigans, followed a man like Jonathan. But that's what had drawn you to him in the first place. Sure sometimes the artifacts he gifted you weren't always legally obtained but you know, it was the thought that counted.
He always shocked you with his thoughtfulness. Jewelry from a long dead queen's tomb he'd drape over your neck while proclaiming you to be his queen. A little trinket you'd been eyeing at a bazaar that he'd sneakily stuffed into your bag when you weren't looking, only to later find it and be touched at his thoughtfulness.
But his gift today certainly had to top them all in terms of curiosity. Jonathan had invited you to join him on another expedition out in the desert. You didn't even bother asking what it was in search of, you naturally said yes both for the love and adventure and simply to spend time with your beloved adventurer. You'd been digging in a promising spot for most of the morning, still sweating in the midday heat despite being under the comforting protection of a large umbrella stuck in the sand beside you. You'd been so focused on your work, you hadn't even noticed you'd been working alone for some time. A loud cough drew your attention away.
"What do you say to a break, my dear?" Jonathan offered with an outstretched canteen of cool water. You graciously took deep drinks of the refreshment and thanked him for the suggestion, it was only now you noticed how badly your back was aching.
Leading you to a nearby tent, the two of you sat under the canopy to rest in the shade. You noticed with a raised brow that Jonathan had that cheeky look on his face that he always got when he was about to surprise you with something. Before you could even ask, he whipped a bouquet of flowers from behind his back with a wide grin.
"Oh Jonathan! They're beautiful, thank you!" You beamed as you took the bouquet and brought them to your face to smell the perfume of the blooms. He beamed at your approval of the small gift before sitting down and pecking your cheek affectionately.
"Saw them and thought they were nearly as pretty as yourself." He sure had a way with words, you thought with a playful roll of your eyes. A bit cheesy sure but that's what you loved about him, he had no shame against being goofy if it got you to smile. His grin waned when he noticed a look of confusion wash over your face.
"What's wrong, darling? You don't like them?"
"No it's not that!" You quickly reassured him before letting out a giggle. "It's just… we're in the desert. Where did you get the flowers from?" You asked in utter bewilderment.
Jonathan only laughed along with you and tapped his nose with a twinkle in his eye before planting another sweet kiss to your lips.

i dont think a reboot of inuyasha is necessary to be honest, i think the anime added some cool stuff. like the tsubaki episodes are cooler in the anime actually, and a lot of the filler eps are fun/cute (i like episode 98 and that one mirsan filler with the guy that wants to marry her). i feel like people would still prefer the original even if a panel-by-panel adaptation of the manga was made... a remake would show the manga's flaws.
Anon,
I understand your position, but it's your opinion which I respect. I personally would like a reboot, and it wouldn't stop someone from returning to the old series and fillers. Fillers are irrelevant to the story, so for me they are indifferent. But if you like it, that's cool.
I don't understand why you don't want a reboot so badly? After all, Kikyou could get justice, and her character finally respect and her relationship with Inuyasha as it should be, I want nothing else for Kikyou but justice.
I even heard from a friend that the author of YashaHime is trying to humiliate InuKik, so please … Kikyou deserves the best and justice and respect for her character, and she has become an "enemy" in the whole fandom. Kikyou has been the most hated character for years and that will not change because the anime shows her in a really bad light and her relationship with inuyasha, and kagome and inukag show the best light.
Let it show manga flaws, is Rumiko a god? No, she's human, she makes mistakes like any normal person, there may be some things you don't like or like about her work, there are mistakes, but at least Kikyou and InuKik are portrayed so sweetly and overall Kikyou is a really DIFFERENT character than 2000s anime.
I really haven't met a manga yet that I couldn't complain about. The author makes mistakes, but he shows his vision and fantasy in the work. I really appreciate what Rumiko did in Inuyasha. Rumiko allowed Kikyou to calm down, and her relationship with Inuyasha showed that hate cannot overcome their love, and Naraku cannot stand between them no matter how much he wants to.
If we's talking about flaws…
Tumblr media
Here is an unfinished hand, and the line is really really ugly, here is an flaw. You know who worked on the first episodes of the old series?
The first drawings and episodes were drawn by Director Inuyasha, who misunderstood Kikyou literally considered her "nemesis", Kagome a woman of "light".
Animators can publish and produce such things, but a manga that has flaws like any manga can't be? cause is good for Kikyou is unnecessary because Kikyou is portrayed so much better in the manga and shows her tender soul, and her relationship with Inuyasha is really full of love.
The improvement of Kikyou's personality and her relationship with inuyasha is part of what I'd like to see, there's more.
Even the lines of characters such as Naraku have been changed to show that the InuKik never had serious feelings for each other, while the manga shows the opposite.
They managed to introduce Kikyou's original personality in "the final act", so we could do a whole remake.
i feel like people would still prefer the original even if a panel-by-panel adaptation of the manga was made…
How do you know that? If you prefer the anime, fine over the manga, and if others think like you, fine too. Everyone has their own taste and watch what they want, but I'm sure a lot of people would like a reboot.
Sure, there's a good chance it will, but do I care? I don't care about it. Even the Japanese complained that inuyasha's production director didn't understand her character, so at least Kikyou fans would be happy justice for Kikyou and her relationship with Inuyasha.
I've seen many before yashahime want a reboot with improved characters, and we got this thing called a "sequel" So a lot of people were hoping for a reboot too.
My impression from your reboot questions.
You don't think a reboot is okay, but why do I get the feeling you're trying to convince me of your point and try to argue it in a way to make me change my mind? And are you really that afraid that Kikyou might be loved more in the fandom and her relationship with Inuyasha? The hate would be less, possibly it could be, because more people will watch the anime than they will read the manga.
Kikyou is hated more than Naraku who ruined her life and others… after all… it's really sad that a villain who is responsible for so much misery is more liked than his victim. Yes, the director did a great job. he was able to make Kikyou hated and SHE IS STILL for so many years.

PREVIEW - All Riddled with Flaws and Just So Painfully Human… Discussing the Inspiration, Challenges and Themes within DLT’s Lobby Hero
Tumblr media
With many of our community theatres wrapping up their 2023-2024 seasons, Dundas Little Theatre has seen great success with their equally impressive productions of Arsenic and Old Lace in the fall and Grand Horizons this past winter. They close their season with a morality (mixed with comedy) play by Kenneth Lonergan which delves into the themes of heroism, justice and how flawed and human we all are.
I had the pleasure of a virtual interview with actor Claire Shingleton-Smith (CSS) and director Gregory Flis (GF) who provided some keen insights and observations about the play itself, its themes and characters and how this show will provide audiences some real moments of discussion about our own community and the concept of heroism within it.
Tumblr media
What influenced you to audition for Dundas Little Theatre's Lobby Hero?
CSS: When Dundas Little Theatre first announced their shows for this season, I had someone suggest I read this script as they thought there was a role for which I might be interested in auditioning. I then went home and read a few scenes of Lobby Hero and was immediately both captured and intimidated by the script and the character. Dawn is such a powerful, complex, and nuanced role and my fear of not doing her justice crept in and convinced me not to audition at first. It wasn't until Christine, our producer, approached me at a theatre event only a few days before the audition date and suggested that I come out, that I got the courage to do so. I knew this was a story worth telling and hoped I could bring to the table what Gregory was looking for in Dawn.
How do the themes of Lobby Hero impact you as an actor and how have the cast navigated the play as both a morality piece and a comedy?
CSS: The themes of Lobby Hero are certainly heavy but they sort of hit you slowly as an audience member. The script is really well-written that way. Racial injustice, sexual coercion, power imbalances -- these issues are rooted in many peoples' everyday experiences so I don't think any of us felt unfamiliar with the themes in the play, but that doesn't make them any less uncomfortable. I am often drawn to plays with difficult themes; I find it really powerful to play women who have overcome difficulties or have stories rooted in some injustice, so as an actor I have some experience with separating my own emotions from my character's experience.
I think the difficulty with balancing the comedy and morality piece has been in toning down some of the impulses to milk the comedy moments into farcical or outlandish cheap laughs - there is a risk of going over the top, and making the characters too clownish or cartoonish that could take away from the reality of it. Really a lot of the comedy should come from the reality of the moment, the believability of the characters, the situational humour. I do think the comedy in the text saves the show from the heaviness of the themes becoming too overwhelming to digest so it has helped in portraying some of the more tense moments. The dialogue has to keep the audience engaged and interested and I think the lighter moments do that nicely.
What challenges, if any, have you faced while bringing your character to life and what have you taken from the experience?
CSS: I really love playing the role of Dawn because the challenges brought forward have given me opportunities to learn and grow as an actor. I mean, for one, I've never had to do a New York accent before, so learning and practicing that has been a fun challenge.
On a more serious note, though, I really did struggle at first with playing a police officer. Dawn is new to her role as a cop and is someone who really believes that you can do good and make a difference by "catching the bad guys." I personally think that there's a lot wrong with current police structures in North America, and policing in general, and don't necessarily see it the way she does. I do think the play, as a whole, acknowledges the systemic issues with policing and the justice system, but Dawn, herself, really believes that she can make a difference. Part of the backstory I created for Dawn was that after the play ends, she ends up moving up in the ranks and making changes that improve the system, so doing these types of exercises has helped me connect with her. I had to come to an understanding that she is at a different point in her learning journey than I am.
Another challenging aspect is brought forth by the really dynamic writing of the characters by the playwright -- they are all riddled with flaws and are just so painfully human. While I connect with Dawn on so many aspects, a lot of the choices Dawn makes are things I would never in a million years do, and at times make me want to yell at her and say, "What are you doing!? Stop that!!" because you know she will regret it. So, I have really tried to rationalize and understand why she makes her choices and take the little tidbits you get in the script about her upbringing and family that give you a peek into how she developed as a person.

What inspired you to direct Lobby Hero?
GF: I was intrigued by the edginess and the black humour of Lobby Hero. I also wanted to work again with the people I had met doing two recent productions at Dundas Little Theatre. There is a strong group of committed individuals here who have made recent productions particularly successful. Michelle Chin, our set designer, and her crew are particularly creative, and they work hard to build a set simultaneous with the development of staging and character growth.
For those unfamiliar with this show, how will the production speak to audiences?
GF: Many good stories, perhaps all, start with the question "What if...?" Lobby Hero demands its audience members answer that question for themselves. What if you were in the position of one of the characters? Sometimes audiences don't like that: it's discomfiting. But that's exciting for the presenters of the play.
There is also an inherent irony in the title: Can a lobby be the setting for heroism? Do we have the opportunity for heroism in a modern pedestrian setting? Is there even a true hero in the play? Is it heroic for us to just do the things we do the best we can? Ultimately, I think the play suggests that the nature of heroism lies in whether the decisions we make affect others in a humane manner.
What have you found rewarding about bringing this production to the stage?
GF: Working with this relatively inexperienced group of actors has been particularly rewarding. They are all intelligent individuals, but each one is humble and hard-working. Community theatre is full of actors like that, in my experience: individuals who are excited to be cast but willing to learn and bring about a vision that may differ in essence from their own. The commitment of those who work behind the scenes makes working on a play equally gratifying.
Interestingly, no two productions are alike: you work very closely with a set group of people, then never get that same magical combination of workers together again. It's exciting being a part of something like that.
A huge thank you to both Claire and Gregory for their thoughtful insights about this upcoming production! Don’t miss Lobby Hero coming to Dundas Little Theatre starting this Friday, April 19!

➳ lucifer doesn’t really understand why you’d be afraid of needles, of all things. like, there are much worse things in the world than them, but to each their own, he guesses. he resolves to do everything he can to help, even if he can’t really relate, uncharacteristically hyping you up and convincing you it’s okay. he promises to stick by your side the whole time and distracts you as your blood is being taken, holding your hand the whole time. when it’s over he gives you a hug, saying “hey, it wasn’t that bad, now, was it?” it was that bad, in your eyes, but at least he’s trying his best.
Tumblr media
➳ mammon is also kind of scared of needles, so maybe he wasn’t the best choice to pick when you asked someone to come with you to the doctors. he’s gripping your hand tightly, teeth clenched, eyes fixed on the wall so he doesn’t accidentally look at your other arm. it’s sweet how he tries so hard to be there for you even when he’s obviously uncomfortable. it distracts you a little bit, so hey, he ended up doing his job in the end. when it’s over, he’s almost more relieved than you are, hopping up and leaving the room quickly.
Tumblr media
➳ levi has played games where the mc is afraid of needles, so he thinks he has some experience dealing with something like this. he doesn’t. when you practically tremble as the nurse applies the disinfectant he quickly realizes he’s out of his depth and doesn’t know what to do. your eyes are squeezed shut, and your biting your lip, and levi wishes he could help. he settles for hooking his ankle around yours, starting up an explanation of the latest show he’s been watching. when it’s all over he apologizes for not knowing what to do, but when you tell him he did good he’s so relieved.
Tumblr media
➳ satan thinks getting blood drawn is kind of cool, actually. human biology and medicine are so different from the stuff down in the devildom, and it’s just fascinating. he tries to explain to you that there’s nothing to be scared of and goes into unnecessary detail about what’s going to happen, which is obviously unhelpful, but you’re so caught up in trying not to listen to him it helps you ignore the feeling of the needle entering your arm. satan watches your blood enter the vials, taking notes the whole time. you’re pretty sure the nurse thinks he’s got a weird obsession with blood.
Tumblr media
➳ asmo really doesn’t want to go to the doctors with you (he just. hates hospitals and doctor's offices), but sucks it up, even though he hates it the whole time. pushing back his discomfort, he playfully teases and flirts with you, hoping to get your mind off of it all. asmo’s always been really good at putting you at ease, so it helps, and even though you still really don’t want to get your blood drawn and absolutely want to cry the whole time it’s happening, you have to admit that it’s not nearly as bad as it could have been without him there.
Tumblr media
➳ beel also doesn’t really understand the fear of needles, but he understands fear, so he’s prepared to do everything he can to help you. he sticks by your side the whole time, letting you grip his arm, not even flinching as you dig your fingers into his flesh. when all is said and done, he grins at you, giving you a high five. “you did it!” he praises, rubbing his arm where you held it. “do you want to get a treat or something as a reward?” of course you do, so he buys you everything you even so much as glance at, feeling very proud of you and wanting you to know it.
Tumblr media
➳ belphie does care much one way or the other about needles or blood, so he accepts your invitation to go with you with a shrug. he knows you claim to be afraid of needles, but you’re so fearless when it comes to everything else he honestly has a hard time believing it. he believes it when you’re sitting there, eyes glassy as you try to hold it together, squeezing his hand. belphie’s never been very good at distractions, but he hates seeing you suffer, so he does his best, still kind of failing miserably. you appreciate the effort, honestly, and you appreciate the hug he gives you when you stand even more.
