Prinsesse
Genre~ fluff
Pairing ~ Ingrid Engen x Norwegian! Reader
Warnings~short, Google translated Norwegian/Spanish, not proofread.
Summary ~Ingrid decides to have a little fun of her own.
Part 2 of mami
Tumblr media
Ingrid stepped into training with a pep in her step, a devious smile rivalling the preppy one she usually wore. Mapi, who arrived at the same time as her, fell into step with a questioning eyebrow rasied.
The Norwegian just simply continued smiling, leaving the quiet question unanswered before settling in and getting ready for the day's training session smile never leaving her face.
°•°•°•°•°••°.
The rigorous training went on in the heated barcelona sun. You and pina were practising long passes when ingrid intercepted one meant for you. "Nice try, Prinsesse." Ingrid smirked before running back to lucy, who she'd been partnered with.
You flush with embarrassment while pina struggled to pick up her jaw a the sudden interaction between the two. Every since Ingrid put at stop to your little dare in the locker room, she barely said two words to you, and the dynamic duo had to watch you walk around like a kicked puppy.
"What's with you two?". Patri searched between you both with confusion as there wasn't any movement to do your drills in 3 minutes. simultaneously, you immediately snapped out of it before returning your attention to the task at hand without any more distractions.
How wrong you were. Everyone had stopped for a 10-minute break while you continued doing touches on your own. Ingrid rolled her eyes at your inability to relax and at the fact she knew you forgot to hydrate. Ceasing the opportunity, she grabbed your water bottle and walk over to your direction.
"Have a drink, prinsesse. We don't need you fainting again, " the Norwegian says with a subtle smirk.
"No thanks, I'm ok." You're so focused on keeping the ball off the floor you didn't even recognise the nickname or the person saying it for that matter. Ingrid snatched the ball out of the air, not appreciating being ignored and you disregarding a need.
You almost whine when your streak is broken, but the taller girl just handed you the bottle with an eyebrow rasied, almost begging you to test her. Reluctantly, you took the bottle gulping down most of it when you recognised the dryness in your throat. "Also, it wouldn't hurt to take a breather prinsesse."
You almost want to argue, but ingrid just grabbed your shoulders, making you plop gently onto the grass before using her body to shield you from the sun. Behind the defenders' long legs, you can see patri and pina making a whipping motion fron the benches, causing you to place your forehead on the knee of your human umbrella with a groan hiding your heated face.
The tall brunette is confused by your actions until she turns catching the two troublemakers teasing red-handed, causing pina to accidentally squeeze her bottle of water in Patri's face before scattering the latter following after getting over the shock of water to her face. Ingrid chuckling in amusement.
°•°•°•°•°•°°
Ingrid catches you the next day in the locker room, tying your laces while humming lightly to yourself. "Hallo prinsesse."
You jump slightly, then flush in embarrassment, taking a deep breath to settle the butterflies at the term of endearment, and reminded yourself that ingrid was probably doing this as revenge and not because of common interest, the thought making you frown slightly.
Ingrid noticed and dropped her kit bag before gently taking your cheeks in her palms. "What's the matter prinsesse?"
"Why are you calling me that?". You question, trying to hide the insecurity in your voice. "If it's because of what happened last week. I'm really sorry and I would like you to stop, please because-"
Ingrid found your rambling cute, but she could see you were about to talk yourself to death cause you took no breathes between your words, so she gently kissed you.
You squeaked before your body goes frigid before you're limp against ingrid's body, leaving the Norwegian in shock as she tried desperately to revive you.
"Dios mío, engen killed the pequeña." Ingrid is startled by the new voice in the room and observed that pina looks like she's actually convinced that you're died and she is the cause.
"Pina, she's not dead, just fainted." Says in her own defence. While cradling you like a child gently tracing the outline of your face with her finger. The soothing motions cause your eyes to flutter open.
"Welcome back to the land of the living, my prinsesse." You blush heavily before scrambling behind pina using her as a human shield from ingrid's gaze. The Norwegian chuckled at your usual shy demeanour and tried to coax you out from behind the younger girl.
At your refusal at her attempts, the older girl gets slightly frustrated and shooed pina out of the room, leaving you shocked and defenceless. "Traitor." You grumbled lightly before ingrid moves closer to you until your bodies are pressed together, and like clockwork, you look everywhere but her eyes.
"I may have started this as a bit of revenge, but I do mean it. You are my prinsesse." The taller girl says while holding your cheek gently, making sure you can see her clear sincerity.
You nibble your lips lightly, trying to form a response before ingrid beats you to it. "I'd love to take you on a date. Is that OK?"
"Yes, I would love to," you say with a smile that almost splits your face open. Ingrid returns your smile before gently pecking your lips. "Tomorrow, after practice?"
"Ja, tomorrow."
"See you then, prinsesse." Ingrid pecks your lips once more before leaving the room, greeting the troublesome pair as they entered. Patri and pina glaced at your form, which hasn't made a move since they entered before you crumble again, fainting when today's events caught up to you.
"Seriously!"
"Again?!?"

An: One day, I'll have a decent ending, but it looks like it's not today. (Again, this is trashhh)😭😭

the night of the ball
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: felix hugo fraldarius x gn!reader
summary: felix asks you for a dance during the ball and you can't pass on the rare opportunity to see him dance
Tumblr media
"would you like to dance?"
you almost jumped as you heard those words. being asked to dance wasn't a surprise, you were attending a ball after all. but that voice, it sounded almost like…
"felix…?"
you stared up at your classmate, unable to do anything but just… stare at him. no, this couldn't possibly be felix. he'd never ask you to dance! felix wouldn't dance! you must've misunderstood…
"yes, that's me. so, are we going to dance or not? because if you don't want to, i'll just go and–"
"no, i want to dance with you–!!"
if anything, you were curious. you couldn't pass up this once in a lifetime chance to dance with felix hugo fraldarius. even if you still didn't know why he'd even ask you to dance…
felix grabbed your hand, as gently as he possibly could, while leading you onto the dancefloor. on your way there, you looked into a lot of confused faces. it seems like you weren't the only one who was surprised to see felix' sudden interest in dancing.
"so… why me?"
felix had just placed his hands on your hips, the two of you slowly started to dance, as you couldn't keep your questions to yourself anymore.
"i always thought you hated me… so why didn't you ask annette or ingrid to dance?"
felix just huffed amused, pulling you a bit closer.
"i don't hate you, idiot... i never have hated you"
now you were the amused one, raising an eyebrow and leaning in closer, to make eye contact with felix.
"oh sorry, i forgot you treat everyone this way~" you teased. "then let me ask instead… why don't you hate me then?"
felix glanced away, his eyes narrowing down. he didn't seem to like that question and yet he pulled himself together and answered.
"you treat me like my own person. the others just see glenn or my father in me, but… you don't care about that. maybe you don't even care about me, but i like that!"
you hadn't expected so much honesty from felix. he was right, you didn't see him as glenn or rodrigue. you never knew them well, so there was no reason to treat felix like someone you didn't even know.
"i'm… flattered!"
you admit, softly smiling at felix. though this only caused the boy to roll his eyes, as a small blush seemed to hush over his face.
"just don't start treating me differently now, got it?"

Golden Wildfire Ch 12
My thoughts below. So, about Claude . . .
MAIN STORY
Please just tell me I don't have to kill Felix, Ingrid, Sylvain, Rodrigue, Annette, Gustave, Mercedes, Dedue, or Dimitri :(
Oh, Arval. Forgot about all of that lamo.
Are we circling back to TWSITD and the origins of Shez's powers? It really hasn't played any role in GW so far. In AG, Shez brings it up all the time (with Dimitri always saying it doesn't matter) and in SB the whole "we only promoted you bc we don't trust your power, sorry now we do" thing.
Nadar . . . doesn't want us to call off the attack. He's really a bloodthirsty jerk, isn't he?
Is Claude JUST now figuring out that taking out the Kingdom is a bad idea for the Alliance?
At least Claude's not stupid enough to not realize Edelgard won't take over the Alliance next. Begs the question then, why?
That's what I mean. This is all potentially interesting, I just think Claude's plans are all really stupid.
So, Claude sided with the Empire because he hates the church that much and actually believes all that shit? Or does he really think Edelgard will stop her war when Rhea's dead? (because she definitely does not in Houses when Rhea's captured in her prisons)
I DO like this for Dimitri though. I'm REALLY curious to see what he does. Is it too much to hope that he'll dump the church to rescue his people from war?
IDK, I just love the idea of a Dimitri willing to sacrifice anything - even his sense of right and wrong (since leaving Rhea to die when all she's done is help him IS wrong) to spare his people pain.
But I'm predicting he'll be too stubborn or not trust Claude or Sylvain furious at his father's death will ruin it
But it's also really cool to see Dimitri kinda backed into a corner with no "good" way out.
I can forgive Hopes giving Edelgard a boring af plot, writing Claude like a moron, and making me kill Blue Lions members, but if they miswrite Dimitri here (or Sylvain, kinda worried about that too tbh), I'm really going to be pissed
Also, like if Claude's plan is really just to gank Rhea to stop Edelgard's rampage, that means he really did all this twisting around just to try and stop one woman's murder rampage - why not just, like, take her out? If this is all really about the least death possible, isn't assassinating Edelgard the fastest way to keep more people from dying?
God, please, please, please have Dimitri dump Rhea to spare his people (I'd feel awful for Rhea, but I really, really hope Dimitri proves to be someone who would spare his people any pain, even at the expense of himself - when he's sane at least lamo).
On the flip side, I'm dying to play GW. It's plot may not make any sense and my opinion of Claude has tanked, but you can't say it's not entertaining.
LORENZ & LEONIE B SUPPORT
Kinda sad they only go to B. They were cute together in Houses. Seems some of the ships got turned up to 11 and others got dialed down.
Lorenz is contemplating his existence in a world where commoners don't rely on the nobility.
He's struggling to see from the commoner's POV, so he wants a commoner to serve as an advisor. Honestly, Lorenz, pretty good call.
The way Lorenz talks about Leonie and her choices, it makes it sound like history was trending towards commoners and nobles not being so rigid without Edelgard doing anything.
Leonie turns down Lorenz's offer because she wants to be a mercenary.
LORENZ & MARIANNE A SUPPORT
Lorenz wakes up after getting injured. Marianne thinks it's her fault, which I saw coming.
Lorenz thought he imagined Marianne asking for help, but she actually did.
Marianne realizes she wanted to live, hence why she called for help. So she's feeling guilty that the end result is Lorenz got hurt.
Lorenz is encouraging and is happy Marianne opened up to him.
Honestly, a better support for him than a lot of the Hopes ones.
CAMP/SIDE MAPS
Balthus is . . . really hung up on the idea of wrestling Dimitri, isn't he?
So some NPC talked about how the Kingdom is getting attacked on all fronts. I can't be the only one who finds it amusing that Dimitri with his smaller army and surrounded by enemies is doing a better job than Edelgard with her massive one lol.
When Hapi proves way smarter than Claude, knowing how massively stupid Claude's plan of "let's kill everyone they love and then force whoever is left over to listen to us! I'm sure they'll be thrilled." Hapi's like, eh, not sure this will work.
Man, Ashe is just miserable when you recruit him. I do find it kind of heartwarming in a weird way how miserable all the recruitable Lions end up being (even in Houses, moreso than the other houses at least). Ashe and Felix taking the cake, but Mercedes was regretting her life choices the last SB chapter too.
Aww, Yuri is worried about Ashe and finds Claude cruel for forcing him to fight against the Kingdom.
Holy shit, Shez really spitting facts to Claude's face, telling him his plan is a giant disaster (Dimitri won't fall for intimidation tactics, and Edelgard won't stop attacking people even after she runs out of excuses.) As insufferable as all of the Golden Deer are in this game, at least we've got stuff like this pointing out how cruel and stupid they're being.
Lamo, take only one unit into the map, as if that's a challenge. I literally only use Lorenz. This'll be easy in AG too bc Dimitri's such a beast. Dreading it in SB though.
Annette is still alive here at least :( And Rodrigue. And Gustave. (we're with the Blue Lions discussing Claude being ... GW!Claude)
Sylvain thinks Claude's an idiot lol. Dimitri and Sylvain are sussing him out.
I love how Dimitri is the only character who's goal is to avoid bloodshed among the lords. The other two are, uh, yeah.
Oh.... is Dimitri actually going to run over the church? Like I wanted? When Dimitri's the best character in GW lol.
Dimitri looking out for Sylvain, knowing how angry he is with Claude.
I had to fight Ingrid :(
SHEZ & LYSITHEA A SUPPORT
Lysithea catches Shez assuring a younger girl that she doesn't seem like a child, but an adult.
Predictably, Lysithea gets angry, because it's Lysithea, but to be fair, she's upset because Shez said the same thing and thinks Shez is being insencere.
Shez admits that it's not cool, what she did, but she's bad at advice and keeps using the same lines she's learned from stories lamo. I love Shez.
Honestly, Lysithea is kinda right to get mad here, at least I get it unlike some of the times with her.
Lamo, Shez can borrow another line from a story. I'm gonna piss her off bc I can lol.
Lysithea buys it. I wonder if it's the same line lol.
SHEZ & SHAMIR C
Having mercenary talk. I had Shez choose to ask for help. Shamir offered once she's free.
Shez comments how mature Shamir is. Shamir comments how relaxed Shez is (but it's a positive thing, not like a judgment).
They bond over having lost trusted allies, including the ones at the beginning for Shez.
Kinda boring, but honestly these two are almost too well matched, like not enough tension and just too normal lol
LYSITHEA & HILDA A
Hilda wants to gossip, but Lysithea only goes on about how awesome Holst is, so she's not interested.
She thinks he should be more careful as head of household, but Lysithea points out that he has no choice.
Hilda is worried who Holst is married. There's an ick here where Lysithea thinks that's because he's too focused on Hilda.
Hilda just talks about who Lysithea might marry, which, yeah...
Hilda offers to help Lystheia out, and some, um, implications that she'll be Lysthesia's new family - she says big sister, but there's def some ship teasing
They made Hilda really flirt with all the girls this time lol
CLAUDE & HAPI B
Hapi finds Claude easier to talk to than Edelgard and Dimitri.
Props to Hapi for telling Claude not to unload his trauma on her.
Hapi's like if you're bitching, why not just quit? Lamo.
Hapi says she'll support him.
MARIANNE & BERNADETTA A
Honestly don't remember if I've seen this in SB already or not.
Bernie likes Marianne's painting, but not her own. This is true vice versa, because of course it is.
Marianne compliments Bernie's horsemanship.
Two shy girls compliment each other, then get shy.
Then Bernie asks what Marianne wants to do after the war and Marianne becomes a Disney princess, wanting to sit in the woods with animals. Bernie wants to finish a story. Honestly, both girls picked amazing options I too want.
Bernie's story is about Marianne lamo. But Marianne isn't mad, she just wants to read it.
I really find their friendship cute, ngl.
Also, Bernie supports Dimitri, so there's no way she's NOT writing fanfic about his life because it's a never drying well there.
LORENZ & RAPHAEL C
Lorenz asks Raphael why he didn't just stay at his family's inn instead and joined the war instead
Raphael wants to keep his family safe, and thinks that following Claude will bring peace to the world (lamo) so that's why
Lorenz is more grounded, saying that all he's doing is exposing his family to the dangers of war
Which, Lorenz isn't wrong, but he also starts prattles more about nobility need to do everything and commoners nothing
But like, does Lorenz really think you can make an army out of nobles only, because, like, that just doesn't happen
Raphael is touched lamo, thinking Lorenz is concerned
Raphael just challenges him to a muscles competition
It is amusing to see Lorenz try to give his spiel and Raphael just keeps doing his own thing
Like ALL of Lorenz's supports in this game is this though, he's more repetitive than Bernedetta at this point
LORENZ & CONSTANCE A
Lorenz is bragging about himself, Constance is in the sun so she's . . . not
You know, I was thinking just how insufferable Lorenz would be in my playthrough because he's like 10 levels ahead of everyone, a god on the battlefield, always MVP - he like trounces everyone so he's be bragging and he'd be right - I wish Claude had to deal with this, watching Lorenz win the war for him and have to put up with Lorenz being Lorenz over it
They overdid it a bit with her sunshine personality - like Dimitri and Marianne are very realistic about a lack of self-worth, but Constance just comes across like a joke (and maybe that's all she's supposed to be)
Poor Lorenz is just confused and wants the normal Constance
I do have a soft spot for when male characters are desperate for the snotty side of a female character to come back (like, really just talking about Rutger and Clarine)
This is going on for too long though without any change
LYSITHEA & LEONIE B
Lysithea mistook a mercenary Leonie talked to for a bandit
But he's just someone who loot dead bodies on battlefields
I always found that kind of distasteful
Lysithea feels torn because she wants to learn about commoners more, but doesn't seem comfortable talking to people who steal coins off dead people, which same
Lysithea of course wants to know about commoner sweets
And Leonie talks about how they can't afford noble treats and likes commoner snacks (hopefully different from Chole's folk food lamo)
SHEZ & YURI C
Shez is snooping on Yuri's letter. I love that Shez is a snoop.
Yuri's pissed though, lamo. He threatens Shez's life though. That's a bit . . . much.
I'm going to pretend I didn't read it lol.
OMG YURI HAS A MOM. SOMEONE IN THIS GAME HAS A MOM.
She's ill so he was visiting her.
He's a bit needlessly sometimes.
IGNATZ & LYSITHEA B
Lysithea thinks there's something wrong with Ignatz.
She guesses right that he's unhappy, but guesses wrong that he wishes he ran his father's company instead of his brother.
He slips up that he admits he's only a knight to please his family.
Awww, Lysithea offers Ignatz the opportunity to live in Ordelia territory and does whatever he wants to afterwords.
She was actually really sweet in this support.
Also, anyone else realize that Ignatz is proof that the church/crests/inheritance isn't the one forcing children to do things they don't want to? It's human greed?
CLAUDE & HAPI A
Claude left a meeting because he was bored of people arguing. Hapi also left a meeting.
Oh, interesting, Hapi asks Claude if he would walk away if someone could take his place. Claude says no that he wants to get a lot done and can't let anyone else do it. So a really uninteresting answer.
LEONIE & LINHARDT B
Linhardt got a gift he doesn't want so he offered it to Leonie.
Lamo, Linhardt forgot the meeting he set up with Leonie.
He gives her a notebook already full, so she wants to give him something in return.
She gives him a rock that turns out to be part of an ancient relic and he gets thrilled.
Linhardt comes to the conclusion that they value the complete opposite things, but they decides they're actually not a special pairing lamo.
MAIN BATTLE
Ugh, not looking forward to this.
Wow, imagine that, the Kingdom isn't bringing them a welcoming party. Like, did Shez really expect that?
They're a bunch of psychos. They're all excited to go kill people because they're strong warriors.
"Let's see if a crushing defeat can get through Dimitri's thick skull." Because you like tried talking with him so many times before???
What is Claude smoking? He's never tried anything but bloodshed of innocent Kingdom people to accomplish anything in this route?
I see what people mean when they say this is one of the most unlikeable casts ever.
Gustave's middle name is Eddie. Not Edward. Eddie. Suffering through GW is worth knowing that.
Also, fuck, I don't want to fight Annette and Gustave, who are only defending their home.
Thank fuck, Annette retreated. Having SB flashbacks where I had to kill Annette. Annette.
And thank God that Gustave did too.
On the flip side, I sort of wish GW wasn't so wish-washy and they all died. At least SB has the guts to show there's consequences for your character's actions. But GW like to pretend only Annette and Gustave matter and it'll be ok to slaughter thousands of low born people of Faerghus every single level because they're not named.
Dimitri evacuated his citizens. I think he's literally the only lord who did that lamo. (I remember distinctly Edelgard not doing that in VW, and I don't think Claude did in CF or AM? Could be wrong about Claude).
FUCK. Dedue. If he doesn't retreat, I swear to God I can't finish this.
Oh, God, not Sylvain too.
Wait, what the fuck, Claude. His "defense" against Sylvain accusing (rightly so) Claude of invading his home and murdering his parents is that "we're all risking our lives here." I guess Faerghus is 2-for-2 whenever someone is actually allowed to criticize people who are invading them.
At least Sylvain retreated.
Dimitri appeared to defend Faerghus. I swear whoever wrote this game didn't care at all about the Golden Deer.
Oh, a cut scene. Also pretty sure Shez called Dimitri Faerghus' strongest soldier.
Well, at least Dimitri being an utter and complete badass in this game continues since Claude admitted that he could never win against him. And he needed Hilda and Lorenz to just push him back, not even defeat him.
Oh, great, more backtracking. Claude has to retreat. Does this mean I have to fight Dimitri again?
You're right, Hilda, it's the same thing all over again. God, this gets old.
It would be funny if it was the Empire, but it's probably just TWSITD. It's pretty funny Claude is the one who learns the least in Hopes vs Houses.
At least Annette and Sylvain are still alive.
Gotta love also how damn badass Faerghus is in general, fighting a 3-way battle and not losing.
Dedue is here too, my beloved.
I love seeing Claude taking another L and having to retreat again.

Chapter 3: Awakening
TW: attempted murder, talks of execution, summoner gets sadistic.
_______________________________________________
A few days before the festival. After much deliberation you decided the heroes of Fodlan would be a perfect choice for a good first impression of the Order of Heroes to Liyue. You justified bringing this many heroes by telling a half truth, Beidou isn't known for being quiet and for some people being royalty is enough to make someone a target. Bernadetta is there as well, but knowing her you told her she only has to leave the ship if she's needed, after all a festival is meant to be fun, forcing someone to go defeats the purpose. You've already talked to Ingrid and Holst about keeping Sylvain and Balthus on a tight leash, also informing the latter two to be on their best behavior.
Raphael: Hey (Y/N), why did we need to bring all this food? Aren't we going to a festival?
(Y/N): Because, we're not sure what currency Teyvat uses, if they don't use gold the stalls will be all we can get anything from, and that's only some stalls.
Ignatz: So, in short gold may not be a valid currency, you really think of everything summoner.
Raphael: Is it really something they need to think about? I mean, every world we've been to takes gold don't they?
Leonie: Not every world, what about that Tokyo place?
(Y/N): Exactly, it may be a slim chance, but it's still something we need to prepare for.
Anna: Oh!! The currency totally slipped my mind!
(Y/N): Really? I expected you of all people to be on top of that.
You and the others all share a laugh before being interrupted by Caspar.
Caspar: Hey guys, you've got to get up here its crazy!
Everyone rushes to see what the young brawler was going on about, only to be greeted by a slew of lanterns lighting the night sky. While everyone was enamored by the beauty of the harbor at night, you couldn't help but recall those cold sleepless nights during the hunt. Your ship soon reached the docks and you were greeted by an unexpected face.
Ningguang: Welcome, everyone, to Liyue harbor. My name is Ningguang, I am the Tianquan of the Liyue Qixing, once I heard we were welcoming royalty, I figured I'd see to it personally.
(Y/N): Uh, you weren't waiting here all day, were you?
Ningguang: No need to concern yourself, I could see you approaching from the Jade Chamber, only then did I decide to come down and greet you. Now, I hate to bring business into the conversation, but I'd like to discuss finances, as I've heard your island is from another world entirely...
(Y/N): Apologies lady Ningguang, but the prince and princess are not responsible for such things as the king and queen still hold the throne, they are only responsible for minor things, well minor by comparison anyways.
Ningguang: Is that so? How unfortunate, I suppose I'll simply have to visit this kingdom myself. Anyways, with that you all enjoy yourselves.
Ningguang makes her departure, and you notice a crowd has started to gather, you can hear whispers and murmurs from every direction. Suddenly a figure comes running out of the crowd and up to all of you.
Xinyan: Hi there, I'm Xinyan, Liyue's one and currently only rock artist, pleasure to meet all of you.
Dorothea: Rock? Oh, I know that apparently it was a major hit in the summoner's world, I've been dying to here it, but the summoner can't play for the life of them and no one could teach them a genre they've only heard of.
Xinyan: Well you're in luck, cause I've got a show happenin tonight, it'll take place over. OH, right you haven't been here before, sorry I nearly forgot, c'mon I'll show ya round.
With that Dorothea and a few others left with Xinyan, you try your best to navigate the crowd of people before bumping into someone.
(Y/N): OOF, my apologies, this city is far too crowded, are you alright?
Xiangling: Oh, I'm fine, more importantly, are you those people from that island, I've been so curious about that place ever since it appeared, please tell me everything.
Xingqiu: Xiangling, perhaps you should back up, I take it from their expression they are not quite used to large crowds such as this.
Xiangling looks at you closely, while you are wearing your hood and mask, she could still make out your discomfort from your mouth.
Xiangling: Ah, sorry I got a little too excited.
(Y/N): It's fine, but you're better off asking someone else as I'm a recent arrival there myself.
Xiangling nods and runs off, Xingqiu bows and follows her. As much as you'd like to stay close to your friends, the crowd really is a bit much at the moment so you exit the city's front gate, heading for the nearest teleport waypoint. As you breathe a sigh of relief, you're startled by the sound of approaching footsteps, you turn to see the traveler and Paimon.
(Y/N): Huh!? W-Who's there?
Aether: Whoa there, easy we're just on our way to Liyue, we didn't mean to frighten you.
(Y/N): Sorry, I had to leave the city the crowd was a bit much for me, so I was still a tad on edge.
Aether: I see, would you like some company, it may help you calm down
(Y/N): That would be nice, thank you.
The traveler sat next to you, and the two of you traded stories.
Aether: So you've been to war huh? I can see why crowds overwhelm you now.
Paimon: Yeah, it can't be good for your mind to always be looking for threats around you.
(Y/N): Yeah, but you two have been through a lot to, and all to find your sister.
The three of you sat in silence, Paimon floating as usual, before another set of footsteps approach.
Paimon: Huh? Ah, traveler!
Aether: What is it, huh!?
When the three of you turn around there's a vicious looking individual holding a blade, and wearing your face. This individual says nothing before attempting to stab you. You dodge and ready your weapon.
Aether: You have some nerve showing yourself today of all days.
Imposter: Hehehe, you see this face boy, I'm your god, I'm the one who's meant to rule this world, me, me, MEEE! If you stand in my way, you'll pay with your head!!
You and the traveler dodge their swings again and again, but everytime you two try to strike they dodge or block, they seem to have done some intense training if they can handle the both of you.
Aether: Hey,look out!!
Shaken from your thoughts, you turn to see the fiend's blade mere inches away from you. Time seems to slow down as your end draws closer, when suddenly.
BZZT
CRACKLE
When you next open your eyes you're fine, not a scratch on you.
Imposter: What? How? You won't dodge this one.
In an instant you're behind this would be murderer and start wailing on them. Punch after punch, they try to strike you but are met with a cloud of dust, and one final blow lands them on the ground. As you inspect yourself for any unknown injuries you spot a mark on the back of your hand that resembles the electro sigil, but before you could inspect further it's gone, you're shaken from your thoughts by the sound of groaning, looking to it's source you see your assailant trying to crawl away, before you step on their arm.
(Y/N): You're not going anywhere.
As you say this, you put more and more weight on their arm until you're sure it's broken, then moving to do the same with the other.
Paimon: They were so nice during our chat and now they're acting all vicious, Paimon can't help but be a little scared.
(Y/N): Hmm? Oh, don't worry, I only get this way around truly vile scum.
You say as you snap the person's other arm with a grin on your face.
(Y/N): Anyways, what do we do with them? There a bounty to turn in or was this a first time offense?
Aether: They're the ones who've been trying to masquerade as their grace, so obviously we need to turn them in and execute them.
(Y/N): Alright then. (Whispered) ugh, what a way to spend my birthday.
Aether: What was that?
(Y/N): Nothing, anyways, back to the city.
You and the traveler bring the imposter to the city gates and let the guards take things from there. The guards and all the towns people who saw them being transported seemed ecstatic about their apprehension. This was definitely one of your weirder birthdays.

Wow this got long, I just didn't know where to end it, and what's crazier is I wanted to add even more. I hope you all enjoyed this chapter, I'll try and focus on character interactions for the next one.

32 for the ask game :)
32 - If you had to get rid of one game and instead combine it with another one, which games would you combine and why?
so we all know that i fucking detest SPY and that CAR is such an astronomical fumbling of what could've been a really interesting setting, so let's combine those two.
revenant--it's gone. hate that shit. bridgette/zoe--she's combined with niacin woman (i'm sorry i've only played CAR like once. ingrid? i think it's ingrid.) i think there's a guy in SPY called alec or alex, he can be a guy at the park doing those card shuffles you can't win, and it turns out he's not actually employed and you can rat him out or not. i don't care about the other characters. they can all be in here. to quote karl marx, "who give a shit".
game takes place at night like in this post. we'll say its in scotland, objectively a better place than new jersey. you can drink milk, you can have cookies, you can order a haggis sundae. yes, you can still burn down your hotel room. miles the magnificent memory machine is a bomb. god i forgot about joy trent, okay, she's like, been milf-ified in this version. nancy imprints upon her like a baby bird and thinks it's her missing mom. the game is about a haunted carousel at a park where nancy's mom went mysteriously missing when she was a child. "nancy you have got to come quick! there's a carousel that starts up for no reason in the middle of the night and it might be cursed with your missing mother's evil spirit!!!"
we still end up on a goose chase for a haunted carousel / carousel horse. there's a lot of sexual tension btween nancy and every character, esp the milf-ified joy trent. there are shadow people stalking nancy through the park at night. we need an amulet. when we find the missing carousel horse, two options immediately come to mind: we find out that the horse has been nancy's mom the entire time (this cannot be epxlained) or nancy's mom is INSIDE the horse. or parts of her are, and she was buried in pieces around the park. that could be a fun end-game collecting puzzle! i would play this game

anon here again who told you about ingrid oliver in the hustle because, you know, suits and shit. did you get chance to watch it? 👀
I'M SO SORRY! I FORGOT TO REPLY TO THIS! I DID! OH MY GOD! NO WORDS! After watching it I suddenly had a mighty need for Osgate to go on a mission where they went undercover and Osgood had to wear a suit... 😍 Scarf couple could ABSOLUTELY double as a suit couple.

I think what the anon meant with „so many characters die in SB“ is the fact that we dont have as many options to recruit the characters in that route compared to others. Major characters from other houses die in SB bc there is no other option while you can kinda tiptoe around killing characters by recruiting them in AG and GW. I mean it makes sense, especially for Sylvain and Ingrid not being recruitable but damn, they actually die and not retreat in SB (same for Claude and Hilda in one of the options for SB I think while Lorenz is kinda a wounded hostage which makes Ferdinand totally excited bc „hey buddy, good to have u with us <3“ which still grinds my gears in the wrong way).
AH right, yes yes; Lions have the least recruits, hence more deaths. Sorry, I COMPLETELY forgot that when I was answering that ask at ass o'clock at night dlkfgfdgj
I've seen Lorenz get absolutely FUCKED on SB; I think what I saw was unrecruited dialogue about him, and he was so gravely injured that he had to take leave from the battlefield for the foreseeable future? Shit, points to Hopes on that front; that's awful. But I'm always a sucker for fics surrounding a character going through the ups and downs of living with a disability born from an injury, so that's the upside. Sounds a little tone deaf on Ferdinand's part, though.

Omg that anon’s headcanon 🥺 I wanted Willanor to have 3 too cause it’s less than the 5 Eleanor grew up with but more than the 2 William was part of, so the perfect compromise. Didn’t you have an anon a few weeks back asking to see what a hypothetical third Willanor baby would look like? Could we still it to see whether Eleanor’s genes win out again 🤣
AAAHHH YES I DID! I forgot! I'm sorry! Tho I'm scared I'll become attached 😭 I made Milian and Ingrid on the first try and look how gorgeous they are! Watch Baby#3 be even better looking than both of them and then I have no choice but to keep him 😒And you all get your wish! 😤

No Good at Waiting vibe songs you say??? Oh boy finally somewhere where my wacky little playlist curating loving ass is useful. I HAVE MANY.
First and most angsty because that's where October, Still left me, The Night We Met by Lord Huron (because I hate myself apparently).
But on a slightly less painful note:
Daft Pretty Boys by Bad Suns -- Because that song is Steve vibes in every universe.
Love Grows by Edison Lighthouse -- Because, well, duh.
The Middle by Jimmy Eat World -- For the reader's want for a sense of belonging and direction.
Hold My Girl by George Ezra -- For the vibes mostly, but also specifically the lyrics "crowded town, silent bed, pick a place to rest your head, and give me a minute to hold my girl."
You and I by Ingrid Michaelson
Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton
Can't Help Falling in Love by Elvis
I'm sure there are so many more that fit the bill (I mean I saw that last ask that said Sweet Creature by Harry Styles and I can't agree more) but these are the ones that speak to my soul when I think of NGAW.
SORRY THIS WAS LONG ily
i have been saving this ask and then i FORGOT ABOUT IT this is so lovely you are SO NICE for putting all of these songs together!!!! you are a master i must listen to the ones of these i don't know immediately (i know almost all of them!!!)

Not sure if you remember me but I was the one who asked about Ingrid and Hiberu back then before you went on hiatus
Was a pleasant surprise to log back in and see one of my favourite AV blogs posting again!
Glad you're back and still making stuff for this almost dead fandom and although I don't ship them (and I don't ship Rhen with Dameon either - I don't ship her with anyone) I'm glad to see your passion for RxL still going strong after all these years. It's a feat, really. Sometimes I do wish it was the canon ending because writing-wise, it's really true that Dameon's character development made no sense, compared to Lars.
Anyways I wish you have a wonderful day and do continue posting!
AAAAHHHHHHHHH THIS IS AMAZING! THANK YOU <3
yesss i remember! you asked about the attraction points to get Ingrid with Hi'beru but i wasn't much help XD
it's crazy, right? Played this game when i was 14, i'm now 30 and i still can't get over that ship. And as for the canon ending, IMO, i personally felt that the initial AV1 fandom would not have grown to be how it is today IF Lars had been the canon ending. LOL so it's a good thing. Why? Poeple, like me, probably got so frustrated that they started swarming the forums just to look for an answer XDDD followed by the amazing fanart, fanfic, headcanons... IF Lars had been the canon ending, i believe we would've just accepted it and went, "eh, good game" then forgot bout it. WE WANT WHAT WE CAN’T HAVE XD
THANK YOU, YOU TOO! <3
btw, i'm sorry i'm not replying these fast enough. i'm trying XD

Hi!!! I totally missed talking to you too! I would love to hear about the performance or festival! It sounds super cool and I've never been to one. I hope it was amazing. I totally agree that the surprise songs are a nice bonus and how it makes every show different and special no matter what. I totally agree about the Folklore dresses..they are my favorite next to Speak Now. Unfortunately I didn't get to go to the Paramore show the other night which is a huge bummer. It just didn't work out at the last minute. But I finally saw the Barbie movie last night! It was pretty good. There were some things that surprised me still even if I got stuff spoiled. I loved all the pink stuff and the Ken stuff. It managed to be funny but also kinda heartfelt and real. Like even America's speech..even though it felt on the nose at times, it was kinda nice to hear her say it in a simple relatable way and it did make me think about being a woman. It had a lot of good themes and ideas but almost felt like two different movies...and I guess because of the two settings. It made it a little different than what I expected though and I don't even know what I was expecting either. I loved the I'm Just Ken song and scene! It makes me happy that he got to sing in another movie again haha. I guess they are still working on a La La Land stage version but I haven't heard anything else about it. I'm curious what other kinda songs could be in your musical version. I could definitely see a welcome to Barbie land song and maybe a song for Weird Barbie. I could see it being similar to Mamma Mia I guess. I love Megan Fahy as a choice and I loved her in the Bold Type and then I found out she was in Next to Normal. I'll watch the videos you posted too. Gavin Creel and Jen Coella seem perfect haha. I was lucky to see Gavin as Cinderellas prince/wolf in Into the Woods last month and he was funny so he'd be great in this. That's so awesome about getting Hadestown tickets! I'd definitely say it was one of my favorites in the last few years and to see live. I haven't actually listened to the new Sweeney Todd yet but I guess I'd recommend the original cast with Angela Lansbury as Mrs Lovett, but I've also seen Patti Lupone. For Rent, sometimes I just like hearing the songs compared to watching the show..like you can get most of the plot from the cast recording even if you're unfamiliar. That is sooo cool about Newsies!!! Did you get to see Jeremy Jordan? I've seen the proshot a ton of times anyway but I'm so curious. I also enjoyed and would recommend SMASH since we are talking about musical shows lol. But Schmigadoon was the same way with all of the references and stuff. Also who did you see in Waitress? I still watch the Tony's and try to keep up with it but I feel like the revivals were better than new musicals this year or that's what I was familiar with and I didn't listen to any cast recordings. I used to always do that before the Tony's with any new show but I didn't this year..but I will eventually. It's really hard for me to know who should win Tony's since I usually like most musicals. The only ones that I don't really like are the bio ones that's also jukebox cuz they all seem similar to me. I have a musical sideblog so I do try to keep up with it and I love all your gifs. You have great taste in musicals. I love anything Sondheim and those are great picks. Spring Awakening is also a favorite of mine! I forgot the rest of your list but I think I'm familiar with most of them. Also that's pretty cool about the Notebook musical and I'm sorry it wasn't good. Maybe some things shouldn't be a musical and I can't really imagine the songs translating well or how many songs it would be but at least you liked the actors. I'd be curious to hear more about it if you wanna share! I thought it could have potential with Ingrid Michaelson. I think I saw a clip of Joy Woods singing Suddenly Seymour from Little Shop if I'm remembering correctly and her voice is so good!
hellooooo friend!! i went to lollapalooza last week, which was my first music festival and it was a lot, but also really fun! i definitely am not an outdoorsy girl, and i was not as prepared for chicago summer heat as i should've been. i lowkey had more fun at the aftershows (for sabrina carpenter, and maisie peters), and i think if i was to do lollapalooza again, i'd probably just do aftershows and maybe not do GA for all 4 days, but just one day? there were a few sets where i was like "... i probably would have a better view and have more fun watching this on the hulu livestream", which is a little bit unfortunate, but you live, you learn! it was actually kind of scary watching so many people around me pass out, and i just ... do not think i am a festival girlie! which is fun because i have bumbershoot coming up, but it's not really a big music festival, just a very small one in seattle and i'll probably just hang out with the crafty things instead (unless the people i'm going with really want to listen to the music)! i got to see some of my favorite artists though, and it was just really, really lovely — especially holly humberstone, because i don't think i'll get the chance to see her for a while (unless she tours to seattle with her new album)! i don't think i've asked you this, but aside from paramore and taylor swift, who else do you like to listen to? 🤍 i'm sorry about paramore :( i thought of you earlier! i got a notification on my phone about cheap paramore tickets in seattle tonight and i was like oh .....! i almost caved and got tickets but i am 1) still run down from chicago/lolla + 2) i spent money on tickets this morning! but eeeee i'm glad you got the chance to see barbie!! i do agree about it feeling a little clunky / like two separate movies! i don't know what i had expected from the barbie movie, but i definitely didn't expect that! ugh i'm already thinking about how beautiful a barbie musical set would be (can you imagine the barbie house?) maybe something by jason sherwood or beowulf boritt? i just think it would be so fun!! and yes — love love love meghann fahy! she also sang a bunch of kerrigan-lowdermilk (who wrote sam brown) songs back in the day that i really like, like say the word i'm so jealous you got to see gavin in into the woods! the tour didn't come to seattle :( i've only heard the best things about gavin, and one of my close friends loves gavin creel so i was like "oh he'd be a perfect ken!" i think they finally announced the sweeney todd revival cast recording release date, so i mightttt hold off and wait till then, and then go backwards and listen to angela lansbury! i did not get to see jeremy jordan in newsies, but i have seen him live — he came to seattle with betsy wolfe to sing with the seattle symphony a couple years ago! i saw newsies on august 9th, 2014, actually (what are the odds), with corey cott, liana hunt, and ben fankhauser! i like the proshot, but i think i'm more partial to the casts i saw (and i think that jeremy and kara and ben and akb were all a little too old to play teenagers at that point)! although my favorite cast is probably actually an amalgamation of the first national tour cast — stephanie styles as katherine, joey barreiro as jack (i've actually seen him as jack twice; once on tour and once regionally), and i think i've just loved every davey i've seen! i love smash! i was talking to someone in chicago about it, actually — they were sitting at the table next to ours and i just struck up a conversation about lolla since they mentioned someone i really love and we ended up talking about broadway / smash and it was really fun! i always say i'll do a smash rewatch and then i never do, but the music is just so good! i'm super curious to see what happens with the smash musical (bombshell musical?) they're supposedly working on.
with waitress, i saw betsy wolfe & drew gehling twice on broadway, desi oakley twice on tour, and i saw alison luff & mark evans on broadway three times! my jenna ranking is probably alison then desi then betsy, and i just really liked how alison and mark played off each other (i have a soft spot for mark from when he was in the play that goes wrong). but i think my favorite jenna overall would be nicolette! i kind of stopped paying a ton of attention to waitress after it closed on broadway though! i also feel that way with this last tony season! i feel like everything now is just either a revival (no shade to revivals), or an adaptation, or a jukebox and it is very rare that an adaptation feels ... complete to me now rather than just a cash grab. it's just very disheartening, as someone who loves theatre! if/when you feel comfortable coming off anon, i'd love to follow your sideblog (and/or your main blog), but that's totally up to you! always happy to chat with you on anon 🤍 i got to see a sunday afternoon on the island of la grande jatte again in chicago, and i had a good little cry! i'm such a sondheim girlie. and that's okay; not all musicals are winners/will speak to me! i think the notebook musical just felt very ... cashgrabb-y? it did make me cry though, so there's that (not that it takes much to make me cry)! i think the songs were just kind of ... forgettable, which really sucks because i like a lot of ingrid michaelson's songs! joy woods' voice is BEAUTIFUL, and john cardoza really just stood out to me! i remember sitting in the theatre and thinking to myself "this man needs to be orpheus someday" and then went to look at his insta and realized he covered epic II from it! i was so so happy when he was cast in moulin rouge as christian; i've heard some clips of his christian and i really like him too! i think the set was beautiful too; i remember being really impressed by the rain scene! i wonder if they've reworked it for broadway, and what will be the same!

update on the fire emblem playthrough! i've just started part two and let me just say. absolute ROLLERCOASTER of emotions since my last ask omg. i did manage to recruit the non-eagle characters i was most interested in (marianne, ingrid and felix. also i forgot to mention in my first ask but sylvain is also there since he was. easy to get). sadly i didn't manage to get raphael who was my next pick, probably because i kept accidentally skipping time (skipped a whole month by accident, and then later skipped a day of exploration without training bc edelgard asked me to come with her. and if i'd had that one day of training i would've gotten him too!! im so salty..) </3 living a sad raphael-less life now.
currently my absolute favorite is dorothea and it's kind of killing me that i'm not gonna romance her this playthrough (because i've gotta go with edie.) next playthrough however.....
i also still really love bernie and caspar those are my besties. i never disliked hubert but he's really grown on me. OH and i didn't even MENTION petra in my first ask which should qualify as a crime. i love her so much.
as for the other eagles, i still like them! i feel like i've already listed most of the eagles hang on who's even left.... linhardt and ferdinand. yeah they're chill! not on the same level as the rest of the eagles to me, but i do still like them.
and as for the recruits from other houses, marianne is definitely up there! although i feel like you have to work a little more to get to know the characters you've recruited from other houses, and the only one i've really gotten to know is sylvain. who i do like, honestly, but he just can't compare to the majority of the eagles lmao.
even though it's like... abundantly obvious by the rest of my ask. i did end up siding with edelgard. uhhhh other story related thoughts hmm.. OH jeralt's death was really sad.
idk i'm having fun!! still enjoying the combat, still enjoying the life sim, and still enjoying the overall plot. excited to see what happens next! LMAO this ask is mostly just me listing all of the characters i like and not much else whoops.
you have no idea how happy your updates and asks have made me <3 thank u so much for sending these in!
SO GLAD YOU'VE MADE IT TO THE SECOND HAAAALF... you got there quite quickly WOW good for you! but yeah dfgjndfg and don't worry things are absolutely going to heat up even more <3 esp if you werent able ot recruit raphael <33 atleast i think so? i havent played crimson flower without recruiting him so i cant remember exactly what happesn... but yeah. AND SYLVAIN YEAH DFJGDFG he was also there for me my veeeery first run. i assume you chose f!byleth right? i think its so funny how he immediately says yes if youre a girl. glad you were able to get the non eagle characters though! youre def gonna be happy that you did 😭 i tend to recruit like everyone. even the characters i dont find myself attached to. just cause. well actually theres a reason but i wont say anything jsut yet
SORRY THAT YOURE LIVING A RAPH-LESS LIFE THOUGH ): glad you were able to get the other 4 but <//3 you have my condolences. did you accidentally skip the whole month when you had to explore jertiza's room? bc i did that during my current run djfjdfg i just. totally forgot abt it. i read the message that appeared and did not comprehend a single word. BUT AGUGGH THAT SUUUCKS MAN, IM SO SORRY THAT YOU WERE THAT CLOSE TO GETTING HIM. BUT ALAS.....
DOROTHEA<333333333 YOU HAVE SPLENDID TASTE. CAN YOU BELIEVE SOME PEOPLE HATE HER? STUPIDITY... anyway byleth and you and i (i assume) have 2 hands so why can't we romance both edie and dorothea? yk? have fun romancing them though i love them both so much<3 such lovely choices you are so cool
BERNIE AND CASPAR!!!!!! SO REAL AND TRUE IM HAPPY YOU FOUND YOUR PEOPLE... and the same thign happened w/ me and hubie fdkgjnf i didnt hate him perse but i just didnt reallly care and then i got his A support and justt.... oughhh. AND PETRA THE BELOVED!!!!!! SHES SO AWESOME.... she deserves all the llove in the world
fair enough! ferdie had to grow on me... but yeah his development regarding edelgard and whatnot got 2 me i guess. i love him dearly. plus his timeskip design rocks. and linhardt my boy linhardt.... i just think hsi disdain for fighting / war and his desire to just chill under a tree due to all the trauma and pain he's gone through is cool. hes gone through and is going throuhg a lot and he deserves a moment of complete and utter. tranquility
MARIANNE MY GIRL<33 but no youre absolutely right. you def have to go the extra mile to learn more abt characters who arent in the house youre teaching. which really sucks, but atleast you get a little insight into them and their characters before diving deeper in their respective route? sylvain is def a good choice, hes absolutely a very interesting character to me. but the black eagles my beloveds
glad you sided w/ her <3 wont even lie i was extremely afraid you wouldnt like her after what happens in part one and whatnot. bc i dont blame anyone who does. i just think most of the common reasoning against her is dumb. BUT YEAH. VERY HAPPY TO HEAR THAT LOL first impressions are super important ofc but things could sooo easily change.... esp in edie's case..... bc shes such a morally grey character. and also a girl so . and we know how fandom reacts to morally grey girls. ANYWAY/ RIGHT ? HIS DEATH MADE ME SO SAD. GOING THROUGH IT FOR EVEN THE SECOND OR THIRD TIME ... hes a great faather and i think his voice is cool
DW IM SO GLAD THAT YOU SPENT THE ASK TALKING ABT YOUR FAVES..... and im so happy that you seem to be really enjoying it so farrr ouguh... hope the rest of crimson flower and the other routes dont disappoint! feel free to chat whenever :D im always free to do so!

Chapter 47 - The Reformed Traitor
Anatoliy and his family were all at the same hiding spot, minding their own business and reading newspapers. Anatoliy read both the one with the scandal, and the one which announced Sava's alleged death by suicide.
"Oh dear!... He seems like a very troubled individual..."
"He's the right hand man of Mantas, remember?!" said Akim.
"Yes, but I wouldn't even wish my enemies to die like this, since I've been through the same."
"Sorry for the outburst, Tolya... the memory still hurts..."
"I understand you..."
Ingrid heard the conversation, and found the names mentioned familiar. Only now did she make the connection that the Commissar and Yevpraksiya's husband were one and the same person.
"Poor Prosya! I wish I could find her and say something to comfort her!..."
"Who are you talking about?"
"The woman who helped me navigate my way through the outskirts of the capital also happened to be the Commissar's wife. She said how much she missed her husband, that she's worried about the company he's keeping, that she wishes they reconciled, and that she's always praying for him..."
"The only thing you could tell her, in such a situation, is that none of this was her fault."
Ingrid silently agreed. Akim found it hard to feel sorry for Sava, but he recognised that he should seek to forgive, not hold hatred.
Suddenly, at the waterfall, someone jumped into the water and dragged Sava on the shore. She struggled a bit, being smaller and lighter than him, but she managed to get him on land. She held his nose and tried to breathe some air into his mouth, and eventually saw that he began breathing in his own, so she stepped back. He began coughing lightly, then heavily, and crouched on his knees. He vomited all the water he had swallowed, then tried to rest, still feeling queasy. When he felt better, he looked behind and saw her.
"Prosya!"
He moved nearer to her.
"When and how did you get here?"
"I was actually searching for you, but, being near the lake, I saw what happened up there and came to help you."
"I didn't know you could swim... How about your leg?..."
"I taught myself. It's easier to move when you float."
He looked at her with admiration, then said:
"You saved my life!"
"I'm so glad you're feeling well... How did this even happen? Why did that man push you off the edge?"
"That was Mantas, the revolutionary leader... Commander as he prefers... He betrayed me. First, he wrote that news article, then he tried to kill me. I don't know how I could ever trust him..."
"The newspaper, is it true...?" she said, as if on the verge of tears.
"I know there have been some scandalous news about me. As usual, most of it isn't true. What is true, however, is that I trusted Mantas too much, thinking he was my best friend. I entrusted him a lot of my secrets, and I loathe to say it, but even more than I ever told you... I told him all about my miserable life, and we talked about everything, from my job in the military, to our marriage. I think I misrepresented it, and he portrayed it how he did, in that article. I told him we had nothing more than a contract between us. For the longest time, this is what I believed; I reached the point I thought nobody cared about me at all. Maybe that's why it was easy for me to be fooled into thinking Mantas cared at all. However, it's as if I forgot about you as well. I've thought so much about my seemingly incessant suffering, but I didn't stop to think about yours. I don't know how I insisted on my loneliness when I had you with me... on the other hand, I made you feel lonely, but I never thought about that... I only ever thought about revenge on my enemies, about gaining power, as if they would bring me any joy. I truly only wanted not to suffer anymore."
"I've decided I should forgive you." she said when he made a pause.
"But I don't deserve it!... I only now realised how horrible of a husband I'd been. Prosya, it's been 16 years! Instead of investing in this relationship, I was merely a house mate to you... less than that, even. I was a landlord, not a husband. How could I waste so many years? And I was too busy with a job that made me go nigh insane, instead of seeing you would've wanted me to talk with you. In hindsight, it's so obvious: you are the only one who's ever loved me, or treated me with kindness. And all of this time, I believed myself to be lonely and misunderstood."
At this point in the conversation, he was already crying.
"I tried so hard avoiding doing something wrong, that I did nothing good either. There's nothing I wanted more than to be different from my father, since I got married. My father, he... he often beat my mother, and one day she never got up from the floor... I never forgot that day, and I remember it each day, not seeming like it'll ever go away. I thought I did enough by never having any conflict with you... Instead, I took the opposite extreme of my father; I killed you with my absence!"
They were both sobbing uncontrollably in eachother's arms.
"When have I become so selfish?! I never considered your suffering. I never really thought about anyone else's suffering except my own. I always thought I was the most oppressed man in the world, that'ds why revenge seemed to make sense, but I ended up causing people so much pain in the process. I would've deserved to drown in that lake... I was an accomplice to so many crimes... Maybe the Emperor Grigoriy didn't deserve to die then. I only thought how he had been an unfair leader to me, so I encouraged Mantas to kill him. I now remember the faces of Grigoriy's son and his nephew... there was certainly a heartbreaking grief there. Was I so cold-hearted so as not to notice it then? And all of us revolutionaries have red on our clothes. Not this scarf, but blood!" he said as he violently yanked the scarf off his neck.
He ripped all the insignia and the scarf itself, and threw them into the water.
"When have I become... evil? What did I let Mantas make out of me?!... I'd always had such a weak spine. I always did things I didn't want to, just to gain the approval of others, until they become things I thought I wanted to do. All of my life, I've trusted people that hurt me and used me, and I hurt people that loved me!! Forgive me, Prosya! I beg you!!!" he cried, holding her hands.
"I forgive you." she said, her voice trembling from crying.
"Why do you forgive me?" he said, hopelessly.
"Because I love you."
"How so?"
"At first, I thought you were my hero for saving me from the slums. Then, I was happy to be married to my only childhood friend. The more we grew cold, the more I thought I hated you and I never wanted to forgive you. I was determined to leave you for good, thanking you always left me alone. However, I've learned many things in the meantime, such as God's love and grace. None of us humans would really deserve forgiveness for sins, yet we have been forgiven. Being humbled by this, I knew I must give you another chance. I decided I would forgive you regardless, even if you never changed. Then, maybe I would've left, but my sincere wish was that we reconciled. Even though you broke my heart, I couldn't stop caring about you after having loved you for so long. I was worried for you, and I prayed a lot for you..."
"How have I wasted 16 years! I should've known where to search for true happiness... Actually, my 42 years were wasted altogether. I've never done anything good with my life. I begin to fear it's too late for me to change anything for the better."
"That's not true at all! It's never too late to repent. And our Saviour can forgive absolutely any sin, even though you might feel unforgivable. If you're surprised I still love you, could you imagine how much greater His love is?" she said as tried to wipe her tears. "There was that famous verse, I think it couldn't be more appropriate: 'For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.'¹"
Sava remembered that he heard Grigoriy, his son and his nephew talking similar things. He didn't get to hear the whole thing, as Mantas tried to interrupt them, but he now realised they were talking about the same kind of faith. They had something he didn't, a certain hope. His wife also had something he didn't, a certain peace. He pondered upon it for a long time, still in doubt, because of the guilt he still felt, but he eventually said:
"I do believe! But can you help me pray, please?"
"You don't have to say anything different from what you've said already. If you wish, I'll pray first." she said, then closed her eyes and said: "Lord, thank you for having let me meet my husband again and having protected him from drowning. Please have mercy on his soul and let him find You soon! Amen."
"Lord, please have mercy on my soul..." he repeated, then said: "and forgive me for having been an accomplice to murder, many times, and even having killed some myself. Forgive me for having been so selfish, and uncaring. For having been a tyrannical leader myself, despite condemning such rulers, and for having been a neglectful husband. I know I don't deserve forgiveness for any of these, but still You died even for my sins. Am I eternally grateful for this! Amen."
He began crying again, and Prosya patted him on the back, however confused by his reaction.
"Why are you crying?"
"Of happiness! I wouldn't have deserved any of this, neither surviving the drowning, neither your forgiving me, and much less God forgiving me. Yet now here I am..."
"It's what I was referring to when I mentioned grace... Don't we have such a great Saviour?..."
"Yes." and he stood up, paused a little, then continued. "...I want to do the right thing wherever possible, but I don't even know where to begin."
"You could join the resistance, they oppose Mantas and his men. After all, you could give them more information than a spy could ever hope to get."
"You're right, but I doubt they'll even want to see me, much less cooperate with me."
"We'll have to try, at least. I'll come with you."
"Thank you very much, Prosya. This reminds me," he said as he held her hand, "of an idea that just came to me. We could renew our vows."
"That would be lovely, but we'd have to wait until after the war and all the chaos is over to actually hold a second wedding ceremony."
"Of course... I promise you that, from now on, I'll be the best and most loving husband there could ever be. I'll never leave you again." he kissed her hands.
The two began walking in the direction opposite to the capital, trying to reach from town to town, tunnel to tunnel, until they could find the resistance. She still used her crutch, but now mostly leaned against her husband. They spent many days to finish this journey, having many conversations they should've had long before, managing to solve at least a few of the conflicts. After having wandered through the tunnels for many days, they finally met Tomasz, who instantly recognised Sava, but didn't trust him.
"Come on, Tomasz, you also betrayed Mantas!"
"That's where you're wrong. I was never in his side to begin with. I was just a spy. For all I know, you're trying to spy on us on Mantas' behalf."
"I came here with my wife."
"There are also women in the revolution, so that's not saying much."
"I have a lot of information, if you don't believe me otherwise. At least I'll be useful."
"I'm taking you prisoners, then."
He took the two of them with him, wanting to show them to the group, so that they could decide what would be done about them. Tomasz had not read any recent newspaper. He took them both, although holding then as if cuffed, and showed them to the others, prefaced with "you won't believe who I found". The whole group gasped in shock.
"You're not dead!" said Anatoliy, and others.
"You're Mantas' assistant!" said Akim, and others.
"Prosya!" said Ingrid, rushing to see her new friend. "I'm so glad you're fine. And I'm glad to see that your husband is fine as well. I began to worry about you, especially after I read the papers. However, know I've been praying for you."
"Thank you so much, Ingrid. I've got quite an intersting story to tell you. But I can't right now."
"M'am, I appreciate your friendliness, but I took those two here because they're suspects. I wanted to know how everybody feels about them being here."
"Well, let Mantas' Comissar explain himself!" said Kęstas firmly.
Sava told them all that he had been through, the epiphany he had had, then his meeting with his wife, and his decision to turn from his old ways.
"I'd like to be your ally now. I hope you believe my sincerity..."
The others remained silent, very surprised for a number of reasons. Ingrid was the first to stand up and come forward.
"I believe you. I've talked to Prosya before, and she told me about you, and how she was praying for you. I believe this is the answer to her prayers."
"I also believe you." said Anatoliy. "Anyone can be redeemed, I know this from experience."
"I don't think I can believe you..." said Akim. "You've helped Mantas in all of his schemes, and you were there when he had the crowds kill my father."
"...and I deeply regret it... please, forgive me..."
"Give me some time to think." he said, tense, as if he held back tears.
The others expressed their views as well, and it was ultimately decided that he could stay, but somewhat separately. Tomasz offered to keep him in check. All of them had their separate rooms already, but in the large meeting room, he stood at a bit of a distance from Akim and the others who distrusted him.
"What if he tries to conquer the empire by himself, and that's why he opposes Mantas now?" said one of them.
"No, I know him, and I don't see him as much of a threat." said Tomasz. "He was a bit of a bootlicker, or so it seemed to me."
"I can hear you!"
"Don't deny it. That's what the army does out of anybody, I'd say. I never said I never was a bootlicker myself. But I had superiors who were more fair and humane, such as Prince Radimir. Anyway, it's good you came to our side, you'll be very useful. And I could be your sniper assistant again."
"I can't use a sniper rifle anymore, I had my glasses broken and I can't see in the distance."
"Why didn't you say that earlier?" jumped Žydras. "I'll tell my mother, to see if she knows any eye doctors around here."
"Do you even trust that man?" Gintarė whispered to him.
"I'm not sure, but I won't deny him medical care if he needs it."
"You talk as if it were an emergency. I suppose all the volunteering in the hospital rubbed off on you." she smiled.
Sometime the following day, Sava was indeed consulted and provided with an appropriate pair of glasses.
"I've never seen such a thick lense in my whole life." somebody commented in the background.
"They suit you very well." Prosya told him.
"Thanks. Oh, my!... I see better with these than the old ones!"
"I guess now, after all of this, you could say that you were blind and now you see..."
He only later got the reference.

The Course Of True Love
Tumblr media
Relationship: Loki Odinson x Original Female Character
Summary: Loki Odinson never expected to see his mother hurrying down a hall with a smart-mouthed, soot-covered figure who was supposedly the princess of Vanaheim. He never expected her to stay more than a week, much less an entire century, and he surely did not expect their initial animosity to morph into the fluttering, tickling feeling he got in his stomach every time she was near.

CHAPTER 7
“You really could have called for us, you know,” Ingrid complained with a tight frown. Her nimble fingers pulled the laces together at the back of Sigrid’s dress. “I would not have minded leaving the festival. Stars are boring, I see them every night.”
“Yes, but these were constellations.” Ingrid did not even lift a brow at her attempt at differentiation. “And there was no need to bother either of you. The princes were with me, so was the Queen.”
“So you’ve said thrice now.” Sigrid stayed silent. It was a blue moon when Ingrid would become agitated. The girl was so energetic on a daily that Sigrid often forgot how protective of her she could be. Through it all Sigrid was akin to a savior in her eyes. Without her intervention, there was no telling where Ingrid would have ended up.
“Ingrid?” Her hand reached behind her to rest on Ingrid’s. “I’m sorry. You’re right. I should have at least sent word to you.” She tilted her head towards Agathe, who had exhibited unusual restraint in bestowing a tongue lashing on Sigrid since the morning began. “Both of you. It was just the last thing on my mind at the moment.”
Agathe nodded. “I understand your thoughts would have been otherwise occupied. In future, just have a page send word to us so we know you’re okay. We may just be your servants, but we care about you too.”
“Precisely,” she heard Ingrid mumble. If it was not against her, Sigrid would have been impressed that the two were on the same page for once.
“You’re not just my servants, you’re my friends.” Ingrid pushed on Sigrid’s shoulders for her to take a seat at her vanity. “Never forget that.”
“We shan’t.” Agathe moved to stand behind her, already gathering pieces of her hair for a simple half up braid crown. “Would you like me to put those flowers in your hair? The ones on the pillow?”
She was referring to, Sigrid knew, the gardenias Loki had left. They were a beautiful white and smelled sweeter than the honey their childhood chef used to drizzle over her signature flaky pastries. She and Thor had developed a habit of sneaking away to eat them before supper until the chef caught on. “Yes, please.”
“What do they stand for?”
“Hmm?” Sigrid looked to Agathe for clarification.
“The flowers. All flowers have a meaning.” She plucked one from the pile and inserted it in one of the two thick braids held together behind Sigrid’s head. “I’m well versed in Asgardian flora. Midgardian, not so much.”
“I’m afraid I don’t know what they mean, just the names.” Sigrid twirled one between her thumb and forefinger. The tiered petals made for a captivating sight as it spun on its stem. “I should ask Loki. He left them so he must know.”
“I should think a gorgeous prince leaving flowers for a gorgeous princess would point to one reason in particular,” spoke Ingrid. The regular cheekiness was back in her voice, which meant Sigrid felt free to admonish her for her not so subtle comment. Before she could, however, a few solid raps sounded at her door. “I’ll get it!” Ingrid hopped to her feet and towards the door. Magne was standing in the doorway when she opened it.
“Princess,” he bowed low, dark blonde hair sweeping over his forehead. “Lady Agathe, Lady Ingrid.” It could have been her imagination, but Sigrid swore Magne’s eyes lingered on Ingrid just a moment too long.
“Hello, Magne.” Ingrid curtsied, face flushed. A look to Agathe found her with the same baffled expression that she was sure mirrored her own. What in Odin’s name had happened to their little firecracker?
“Good morning, Magne. What brings you here?” The sound of Sigrid’s voice snapped the two youths out of staring at each other. Ingrid took a step back. Her face was almost as red as her hair as she made a hasty excuse to leave the room. Sigrid made a mental note to use Magne as her trump card anytime Ingrid decided to make any more allusions to her relationship with Loki.
“Sir Leif requests the pleasure of your company. He departs for Vanaheim in a few hours and would like to see you before he goes. I also have a message from Prince Loki.” He waited for her nod to relay to message. “The prince says he is in a meeting with his brother and father, but he should not be long. He wants to know if you’ll accompany him to town for lunch after the meeting is over.”
“Tell the prince I accept. I’ll just be in the courtyard.” Magne nodded. “And please tell Sir Leif I’ll be right with him.
ooOOoo
Leif was standing a few feet away from Sigrid’s door when she exited her room. He simpered upon seeing her, pushing off the wall to extend a hand. “Leif.”
“Sigrid.” He kissed her hand in greeting. “You look stunning this morning.” Sigrid gave him a little smile of her own. Leif was still as sweet as she had remembered, and she was glad that centuries of training and battle had not succeed in beating that out of him. “Not at all remnant of someone who pitched headfirst off a bridge.” Sigrid let out a snort.
“Gods.” She covered her mouth, a bit humiliated by the sound she had just made. “I hate when that happens.”
Leif’s eyes sparked with an unreadable emotion. “Don’t be. I’m glad I can still elicit such a reaction from you.” He offered her an arm and she took it without a second thought. “All jokes aside, are you sure you’re okay? You took quite the fall last night.”
“I’m fine.” Sigrid had said those words so many times in the past twelve hours that they had lost all meaning to her. “A little shaken up but I’m alive and that’s what matters.”
“I’m sorry I didn’t do more.” Leif’s confession drew her attention to his face. A morbid expression donned his features. “You fell and I just froze. I never freeze. Prince Loki was quite irate at my lack of reaction, although I cannot blame him. And I must say his magic is quite terrifying.” Sigrid winced.
“I know you’re not fond of each other, and I’m not making an excuse for him,” here, Leif lifted a brow in confusion, “but he was just afraid. You must understand that Loki was just trying to save me.”
“Sigrid, you’ve read me all wrong.” Leif placed a hand on hers. It was warm and calloused, fingers thick from years of using a sword. They were so unlike Loki’s slender, long digits. “Of course, the prince was just trying to save you. I’m saying it was impressive. I’ve never encountered magic that was not used against me in battle. It was truly magnificent to see it in a different light.”
They had crossed into the hallway now, allowing the sun to shine right into Sigrid’s eye. She brought a hand up to her forehead to shield her face from the rays. “We share different views on magic here on Asgard. Unlike the Vanir, we believe it can also be used for good. Our healers have been using it for some decades well to heal wounds and illnesses that would otherwise kill our citizens.”
“Is that why the prince learned it?” Leif questioned. This answer she knew.
“At first he learned it because his mother wanted him to have his own hobby to set him apart. Frigga always said Loki had a talent for seidr, but it was not until years later did she realize just how good he would become.” Sigrid gave a small giggle. “When we were little, he liked to use it for silly things. He’d put snakes in Thor’s bed or make his food levitate so he could not reach it.”
“Did these pranks extend to you?”
“Not at all. I got flowers and little fireworks shows.” Leif quirked his lips in a knowing manner. “What?”
“Nothing,” he replied. “I’m just wondering how it is you never bothered to learn it yourself.”
Sigrid shrugged. “Some Vanir beliefs die hard, I guess. Although I am quite comfortable with Loki using it near me. I can’t count the number of times he’s had to heal minor injuries from me getting hurt. He says I’m the clumsiest person he’s ever known. Can you believe that?”
“I can.” Sigrid gave him a look. “Sigrid, you have always been a clumsy girl. Do you remember when we were learning to ride horses? You stepped onto the stirrup and fell right over the other side of the poor creature.”
“I told you that stirrup was broken!”
“Is that why it dislodged itself and got tangled in your foot?” Leif had begun to laugh at her. “You were so tiny. Just dangling over the edge of the horse whilst the instructor attempted to right you.”
Sigrid shoved him with all her might. Against his large stature, it did nothing. “I’ll have you know I’m a fine rider now. And that horse back home never liked me anyway. He was always nudging me with his head.”
“I think he just wanted to play with you,” Leif’s grey eyes were still dancing. She had always thought they resembled the colour of the sky before a storm. The calm, quiet eeriness that signaled the onslaught of violent rainfall. “Everything here is so different. I’m sure to miss it when I leave.”
Sigrid deflated. She had known he was due to leave that day before she had gone to meet him. Yet their conversation had occurred with such a naturality that the sudden mention of his departure revealed how much she had enjoyed having him here. “Perhaps you can visit again?”
Her suggestion shocked not only her, but her companion as well. “Are you certain?”
“Yes.” Ah. Loki is just going to love this. “Yes I am. We are old friends are we not?”
“Friends?” came a new voice. “Is that what you were? Because I heard it went deeper than that.”
Leif was the first to react to the voice. Both his eyebrows knit—the voice clearly one he knew—before he turned to the golden-haired girl. “Eva?”
“Leif,” she gave him a tight smile, then let her eyes wander to Sigrid. “Princess.”
“Lady Eva.” Just like the first time she had met her, all the hairs on Sigrid’s body stood up. She felt like a cat that had just had cold water poured on it. There was somethingabout this woman that continued to rub her the wrong way. “You two know each other?” It was Leif who answered.
“Yes. Her mother is one of the king’s advisors. We know each other from living at the palace.”
“An advisor?” Sigrid echoed. “Your mother?”
“Yes,” Eva lifted a brow in challenge. “Have you an issue?”
“I was not aware my father took on women as advisors. I’m glad to see he’s changed his mind.” Sigrid wondered if she had offended this girl in some way. Lady Eva always came across a little standoffish to her. Or maybe her own feelings were colouring her perception. “How come neither of you knew the other was here?”
“I’ve been on the hunt for months and I came straight here when I returned,” Leif explained with a frown. “Honestly, we’re not that close.”
“Come now Leif,” Lady Eva purred. “We don’t want to give the princess the wrong idea.” She said the word ‘princess’ with such disdain it almost made Sigrid’s head spin. “We run in the same circles. How else would I know the real reason the king sent you here?”
Sigrid’s eyes flicked to Leif. She found him glaring at Lady Eva, jaw clenched in the first real hint of anger she had ever seen him portray. “Leif, what is she on about? Did my father not send you here for a visit?”
Lady Eva let out a snort of laughter. “A visit? Is that that what he told you?”
“My time here has nothing to do with you, Eva.” Leif warned. “I think it best you mind your business.” Lady Eva set her chin. Despite her obvious plans to cause trouble, Sigrid had to admit there was an air of confidence about her that was not to be denied.
“I disagree. Your visit here may very well spell change for Vanaheim, and instead of doing as you were told you’re leaving.” She tossed her golden hair with a roll of her ocean eyes. “It’s a good thing I came here. I knew you wouldn’t be able to go through with it.”
“Go through with what?” Sigrid had grown very cross with the two Vanir in front of her. It was one thing for Eva to insert herself where she was not needed. Add to that some dirty looks and some obvious secret keeping and now she just wanted answers. “I’m going to ask one more time,” she announced in her best princess voice. “What is going on?”
Eva looked to her, then Leif, then gave a shrug. “If you won’t tell her, I will.” Leif gave a sigh of relent.
“Okay.” He turned to Sigrid. “Okay. I have not been totally forthcoming with you. You see, your father did send me here for a visit, but the terms were conditional.”
Sigrid lifted a brow. Unease had already begun to stir in the pits of her stomach. “Conditional upon what?”
“Sigrid,” Leif took one of her hands in his. “Your father, the king… I was sent here to court you.”
“I- What?” She brought her hand back to her side. “Why? And why didn’t you tell me before?” Leif’s look was frantic.
“You have to understand that neither I nor your father meant no harm. He wants you to take his throne and become the Queen you are meant to be. Unfortunately…” he trailed off.
“Unfortunately, what?”
“Vanaheim has laws,” explained Leif, “and the laws state that an unmarried princess cannot become a queen.”
“My father would never force me to adhere to such a law!” Sigrid was livid. “Countless princesses have been made queen in the past without being married! Why should I have to be the exception?”
Lady Eva folded her hands together. “Because you are not just of the Vanir. Your mother was Midgardian. There are people who want to make sure you marry a full-bred Vanir and not surprise them with a Midgardian after your coronation like your father. They don’t want the bloodline to be anymore watered-down.” The look Sigrid gave her was scathing. “Their words, not mine. I could care less about your heritage.”
“Leif, is that what you were trying to tell me last night on the bridge?” Her mind wandered back to their conversation, right before she had cut him off and changed the subject. “You said we needed to have a discussion. Was it about it this?”
“Yes,” he admitted. “I wanted to tell you, and I felt so terrible coming here with an ulterior motive. Sigrid, I meant what I said the first day I got here. It truly has been a pleasure getting to know you again.”
“You should have told me what was going on! And why would my father think that I would be so open to this?”
“Perhaps he thought you would not mind,” Eva said, “seeing as you and Leif were once lovers.” A strangled noise alerted her that another person was witness to the tête-à-tête. Even worse than the eavesdropping was the fact that she knew without fail who had made the noise.
“Loki.” He was already retreating by the time she turned around, long legs taking him away from her in quick strides. It only took a few steps for his lanky form to disappear into the palace. “Oh Gods!” Sigrid placed a hand to her forehead. When she returned to the two Vanir, there was a smug expression on Eva’s face.
“You knew he was there!” Sigrid swung a finger up to her face. She felt Leif put a restraining hand on her arm. “Didn’t you?” Eva gave an innocent blink.
“I am not in charge of the prince’s whereabouts.”
“Bitch.” Savagery dripped off the snarl, causing Eva’s face to drop at the swear. “You absolute bitch!”
“Sigrid.” It was Leif, hand still strong on her upper arm. “Go after Loki. Explain everything to him.”
“But my father-”
“Sigrid, I will handle your father. He’s quite fond of me.” Leif’s eyes were earnest as he peered down at her. “Don’t worry about me. Go. I’ll take Eva back home with me.”
Eva made a noise of protest. “You cannot—”
“I can. You’ve caused enough trouble.” Leif’s tone was final. “Sigrid, go. I’ll write you soon.”
“Thank you,” she whispered. Her mind was a mess as she gathered her skirts. “I-I’ll write you back, I promise.”
“Sigrid, go.” She did not need to be told another time.
Sigrid ran down the path Loki had taken as fast as her feet would carry her. The decision to wear a lifted heel had turned out be an incorrect one, for they were not built for more than a gentle walk. With a loud curse, she reached down and tore the things off. Bare feet would help her catch up to Loki faster, anyway.
“Loki!” She spotted him as she rounded the corner.
“Leave me be, Sigrid.” His tone was clipped, back still to her as he made his way to the library doors. He pushed them open with more force than was necessary and stomped inside. Sigrid entered just a few moments behind him.
He was hunched over a desk when she spotted him, scribbling with such fury that the sound of nib touching paper scratched through the air. She knew that he was aware of her presence. It was hard to sneak up on him, having the powers he possessed, so she knew his ignorance was purposeful. “Loki, let me explain.”
“There’s nothing to explain. I heard it all.” He still would not look at her. “Please close the door on your way out.” Sigrid pretended she did not hear his attempt at a dismissal.
“You did not hear it all,” she insisted. “There was some truth to what Eva said but not entirely—”
“How can there be some truth?” Loki looked at her then, and a million and one emotions rippled over his face. His eyes, though, were shining with the most unhinged fury. “It’s either you were his lover, or you weren’t, so which was it?”
“We liked each other,” she admitted. There was no point in hiding the truth from him anymore. “A lot. At first I thought he was just spending time with me as a favour to our fathers but the more we talked the more I came to understand that he genuinely wanted to be around me. And I, him.”
“So, he was your first love.”
“Yes, or at least what I thought was love.” Loki lifted a brow. “I was fourteen, Loki. I was not well versed in matters of the heart.”
“And the night of the fire? When you two were in the stables together?” He gave a small shrug. “You’ve never mentioned that before.”
“I- We used to sneak out to the stables at night because it was the only place that would not have servants.” Sigrid clasped her hands together at her waist. “I was afforded even less mistakes than a full-blooded Vanir princess would have been. If anyone caught me with Leif, they would have tried to question my virtue and therefore my claim to the throne. More than they already were, that is.”
“So, am I to believe that two teenagers snuck out to be alone just to talk?”
Sigrid folded her arms. So far, she had answered all of his questions without hesitating, so she did not appreciate what he was implying. “If you’re asking if I fucked Leif, the answer is no. Although it would not be any of your concern if I had, and you have no right to be mad about that.”
Loki scoffed. “You’ve made it quite clear what is and is not my business. It’s funny, though. I never took you for a liar.”
“Don’t be an ass,” she spat. She unfolded her arms and walked right up to him. Her neck hurt with the effort it took to keep her eyes on his from this angle. It was only the sheer refusal to look away from his glare that sustained her. “I never lied to you.”
“You lied by omission.” His tone was matter of fact. “Of course it’s not my business who you choose to sleep with. That’s not what I’m mad about. I’m mad that you chose to omit Leif from your story, and you choseto let me believe he was a mere acquaintance.” He spread his hands with a flourish. “Lies.”
“Now I know the God of Lies is not giving me a lecture on the truth.” Her voice had risen past the acceptable decibel level for the library. “You are dishonest all the time.”
Loki’s jaw clenched. “I am not-”
“Yes, you are! You are!”
“Not to you!” He growled. “I do not lie to you; I have never lied to you!” Loki was shouting by the time he finished, and it shocked Sigrid well out of her wits. Never had she been on the receiving end of his vexation. Now that she was, she did not like it one bit. “Does that count for nothing?”
Sigrid’s breath caught in her throat. Part of her knew that Loki had always treated her differently than everyone else. He did not snap at her, or raise his voice, or prank her like he did to everyone else. Throughout their entire friendship she had been the exception. So why, now, had things begun to change?
“Loki—”
“Forget it.” His mask slipped back into place. All the hurt and disbelief was now replaced by a blank stare. “I’ve known this was going to happen one day. I suppose it was foolish of me to assume our friendship would make it through this.”
“What are you talking about?” Her voice was overcome with puzzlement. “Make it through what?”
“You have to be married to be queen, do you not?” Sigrid blinked. Loki caught her unspoken question and answered with a wave of his hand. “I’ve always known the Vanir laws. I did not, however, know that your spouse would already be chosen for you.”
“Loki, that’s not what’s happening here. I’m not marrying anyone. My father—”
“Your father concealed the truth from you because he knew as well as I do that you would not react well to being forced. But the fact is that you have two choices; you can choose to marry Leif and take the throne you’ve always wanted, or you can refuse and give it up.” Loki shook his head. “Since you’ve no siblings, there’s really only one path is there?”
Sigrid threw her hands up. “I still do not see what that has to do with our friendship! Nothing has to change—”
“Sigrid, it has already changed!” Frustration lined the edge of the trickster’s tone. “It changed the moment that letter was sent. Do you really think we can maintain the friendship we have when you go back to Vanaheim? I doubt your husband would take kindly to me sleeping in your bed when I pop in for a visit.”
“You’re talking about things that have not yet happened,” she enunciated each word as though he were slow. “Any romantic feelings I had for Leif are long gone. He’s just a friend now, one that I barely know anymore.”
“Because you had to leave.”
A beat passed. “What?”
“The only reason your feelings for him went away is because you were forced to leave,” Loki elaborated. “You were thrown into an unimaginable situation, and you adapted better than I ever could have. If you had stayed on Vanir, you two would have already been wed, but you didn’t and that’s why your feelings went away; because they had too.” Loki took a pause, gauging his next words with care. “How am I to believe that your return to Vanaheim will not result in the same for me?”
Sigrid’s mouth opened and closed a few times before she finally figured out what to say. “That’s not the same thing and you know it.”
“Do I?” He took a step closer to her. Their noses were nearly touching now. In the past Sigrid had never been bothered by his being near her. He was one of the few people she allowed to touch her without asking permission each time. This time, however, she found herself a bit jittery under the intensity of his gaze. “Do I really know that? Because I think you’ll throw yourself into your role as queen so well that you’ll convince yourself you a love a man we both know is not the one for you.”
“We royals do not always get the privilege of following our hearts.” The breathlessness in her voice was most unexpected. “You and I have always known that.”
“Hmm.” Loki lifted a hand to cup her cheek. Her eyes closed as the smooth pad of his thumb dragged across her skin. “Yes. I suppose we have.”
A warmth appeared in her curled fist. She opened her eyes, unfurling her fingers to see a dark, crimson rose in her palm. “What does this mean?”
“Pardon me?” His voice was a murmur.
“The flowers,” she held up the rose in her palm. “You would always give me pink tulips before. Why have they changed?”
Loki stared at her for a while. His thumb was still caressing her face, leaving goosebumps on her skin with every stroke. “I do not know,” he said. “I don’t pick the flowers before I conjure them. My mood chooses them for me and they just appear.”
Sigrid ran a finger over the petal. It was not the usual red rose she was used to, hue too deep and resembling clotted blood rather than a fresh bleed. “What do you feel now?”
“I feel as though I am at a funeral,” he told her, “for I know a tide has turned and we shall never be the same again.” Sigrid knew not what to say. She just let Loki pull her forward to place a kiss on her forehead. “I must go now. Thor is waiting for me. Father is sending us to Alfheim again and I cannot be late.”
“How long will you be gone?” She was still reeling from his words but managed to get out this simple inquiry.
“Not long. A few days to a week.” His hand dropped from her face. “You should not worry about me. I will be fine.” He moved towards the door in record time, cape floating with the speed of his steps. “Perhaps I may catch Leif at the bridge if I’m quick. I owe him an apology for my insolence.”
“I already spoke to him. He understands you’re just protective.”
Loki gave her a half smile over his shoulder that did not quite reach his eyes. “Ever my defender. What would I do without you?” She gave no answer. If his words were true, he would have to figure it out soon enough. “Take care of yourself while I’m away. And for the love of Odin, don’t go falling off anymore bridges. I’ll see you soon.”
Sigrid wanted to say something. A well wish? A ‘take care’? Anything would have been better than nothing. Instead she stayed silent, her attention turned to the rose in her palm. And when she heard the door close—silent, so as not to startle her—the tears slipped down her face, gathering in the crevices of the petals.
