The art director & the Good Omens book cover tier list of doom, part 3
Part 1 l Part 2 l Part 3
I am your resident Art Director/Good Omens enthusiast, and welcome to my completely meta-free book cover tier list. Listen, making a book cover is HARD. I should know. But while we salute these artists for their hard work and time, I think we can all admit that once in a while, the vision is just not on. And on very rare occasions, publishers seemed to have managed to commission the cover art directly from hell... here's where we left off last time:
Tumblr media
21. Labas zīmes, Latvian cover
Tumblr media
Our boys are back! And they are so ready to join the Dead Boy Detective agency. I would say that Latvians don't wear much tartan, so Argyle might seem like a similar print, but it just seems so... not Good Omens. Much like Crowley's flying purple people eater tail and Aziraphale's Conan the Barbarian sword, we're straying into niche AU fan fiction territory here. I mean, it's not *wrong*, but it certainly ain't right, either.
Tier: Does the Job
22. Bons Augùrios, Portuguese
Tumblr media
Let me start by saying this cover is so close to being in the blessed category. The layout and spacing are divine, the imagery is simple and whimsical, it reflects the humour inside the gravitas to give you an idea of the *feeling* of reading Good Omens. So few of these covers have gotten this aspect of good design right. Honestly, I would slow clap if it wasn't for that random FLAME JIZZ stuck to the bottom right hand corner of the book. Who's idea was that? Dagon's?
Tier: Great
23. Semne Bune, Romanian cover
Tumblr media
I admire two things about this cover: 1) Their utter commitment to a clean 3-colour palette and comprehensible layout. 2) Symbolic demon giving a principality head joke RIGHT ON THE FRONT COVER. This designer had balls. cotillion-sized balls. Now, does Aziraphale's sword have a sentient rooster tassel that watches said head-giving in horror? I sure hope not, but I don't see how that could be allegorical so, I'm torn. I feel like this goes in two categories for completely different reasons. And seeing as I'm in charge around here...
Tier: Great & Not so Good (Omens)
23. Semne Bune, Romanian cover cont.
Tumblr media
Compared to the last cover's gigantic double-entendre, this feels so tame and logical. The text is centred and balanced. There's breathing room, and we have wing symbolism! I've never seen a cover try to split Terry and Neil's names like that, which is a fun twist but BY GOD that center line is not straight near the right end of the feathers and it is sending this cover straight down to Does the Job. It's grounded there forever.
Tier: Does the Job
25. HYVIÄ ENTEITÄ, Finnish cover
Tumblr media
In this list, having something actually *relevant* to the main plot of the book and not mangling and main characters really puts you in rarefied air. All the motorcycles are book accurate which means somebody read something! Would I have ever picked the empty parking lot of Famine's restaurant as a subject worth a cover? Absolutely not. But the sick 80s lightning tips it into "fine" territory. The text is yellow. It's pretty.
Tier: Does the Job
26. Head ended, Estonian cover.
Tumblr media
My face after staring at this cover for ten minutes and finally realizing that this is Hastur and Ligur waiting around for Crowley to pull up:
Tumblr media
The artist's face after watching me do that:
Tumblr media
Do I even need to rate this? It's called HEAD ENDED. I don't know how to be funnier than that.
Tier: WTF
27. Dobry Omen, Polish cover
Tumblr media
Some good points for trying to be original with the layout of the title by drawing a custom pitchfork "Y", but the heinous kerning and the fact the whole text block is not even centred kind of makes me take all the points back. I feel like we're pretty heavy on the demonic, extremely light on the angelic in this take. Maybe it's because on his death bed the lead guitarist of White Snake will finally admit to having designed this cover in his spare time.
Tier: Not so Good (Omens)
28. Good Omens, Hungarian cover
Tumblr media
If I told you this designer did not read the book, and instead just watched the trailer of The Omen (the movie) and vibed this heinous brown carpet swatch into existence, you would one hundred percent believe me. I can't even talk about the faux belle-époque font right now. I am irrationally angry.
Tier: WTF
29. Good Omens, Bulgarian cover
Tumblr media
WHO. IS. DADDY. WIZARD?? Is all I can think when I look at this cover. Aziraphale & Grommet are recognizable enough, and you could make the case for telescope monkey being Adam, but I need to find this cover designer and shake them until they tell me who this deranged Gargamel is supposed to be. I must know.
Tier: Bad
30. BELAS MALDIÇÕES, Portuguese cover
Tumblr media
After all we've been through on this list so far, this truly sucks. It's not even weird. It's just puce text layered atop text to create a great yawn of a cover. Shout out to the designer of the Diablo PC game font, I hope you got paid.
Tier: Bad

do you like going on hikes?
Honestly, no.
Even if it wouldn't cause post-exertional malaise, I am just not an outdoor person.
I never have been.
I love walking somewhere if I can get a cool photograph from it. But hiking just to hike has never really interested me. And while I think nature is beautiful and I love taking pictures of it, I very much dislike being in nature. No temperature control, bugs, predators, etc.
But mostly it is incompatible with my CFS, so it isn't really an option anyway.
My dislike of being in nature goes back a long way. In high school I signed up for a weekend Civil War reenactment to get extra credit in my history class. It was basically camping disguised as historical LARPing.
They tried to make it as authentic as possible. All of the food and cooking was period-accurate. Meaning we got mushy beans for dinner and mushy eggs for breakfast. We had to sleep in period-accurate tents with no sleeping bags. So that was cold and uncomfortable. And they didn't really plan a lot of activities, so there was a lot of downtime where 15-year-olds tried to relate to men in their 50s mostly trying to escape their families for a weekend. Some surprising and awkward oversharing ensued.
When we arrived they immediately made us change into ill-fitting, itchy uniforms including period-accurate shoes we had to borrow from the dudes running it all.
The thing is, I have always had big boy feet. Even at 15 years old I was wearing a size 12 wide. They didn't have any shoes wide enough to fit me, yet they insisted I not wear my tennis shoes.
"Ulysses S. Grant didn't have Reeboks, boy!"
So I squeezed my feet into a pair of non-wide 11s and walked around in them all weekend.
That was a mistake.
The big finale of the event was a simulated battle—which I was originally very much looking forward to. It was the entire reason I signed up. We would get to play with muskets and fire blanks at middle-aged Confederate cosplayers.
I mean, who doesn't love shooting fake racists with imaginary bullets?
But by the time of the battle my feet were on fire with pain.
I could barely stand.
Reenactments typically work on the honor system. If you see someone shoot in your general direction, you are supposed to pretend to get shot and fall to the ground. These guys took that rule very seriously. We even had to practice dying the day before during our musket training.
So we all lined up on either side of a giant field surrounded by the forest. We were instructed to prepare our weapons. Our commander shouted orders for us to get in formation. One of them even had a horse and a proper calvary sword. A trumpet sounded. Suddenly this glorified camping trip turned into something legit. Everything had been so halfassed up until this point and I wasn't expecting a scene with the production value of Glory to materialize.
Things got very silent and all you could hear were leaves rustling nearby. I'm pretty sure they were building suspense to impress all of us youngins.
And with an enthusiastic shout, our pretend commanders initiated the battle.
I heard the very first gunshot.
I grabbed my chest.
I dramatically screamed out in pain.
I fell to the ground.
I died.
All in all, I was a Union soldier for roughly 8 seconds.
Technically... I did not see anyone shoot me. I violated the most sacred reenactor code. But I think the honor system was more concerned with people pretending they *didn't* get shot, so I figured it would be okay.
So I just lied in a cold damp field, slipped off my shoes, and let out a huge sigh of relief as my feet expanded back to their normal size. All while a mixture of high school students and unhappily married 50-year-old men pretended to kill each other around me.
Tumblr media
(Artist's rendering of me playing dead)
When I finally got home my feet were covered in giant blisters. My mom had to cut my socks off because it was too painful otherwise. I had to stay home from school for two days because I couldn't fit my feet in my shoes without screaming. Eventually those suckers all popped and that was very gross but also immensely satisfying.
And I happily avoided nature ever since.

Fate and Phantasms #282: Kijyo Koyo
Tumblr media
I don't think I have to do much to sell this one. Berserker T. Rex. That enough for ya?
Today on Fate and Phantasms we're building Kijyo Koyo, a fire-breathing T. Rex oni. She's a Storm Herald Barbarian to spit hot fire even as a dinosaur, and a Circle of the Moon Druid to be a dinosaur even while she spits hot fire.
Check out her build breakdown below the cut, or her character sheet over here!
Next up: The end of the line. For now.
Race And Background
I know most of the oni up til this point were Tieflings, but Koyo's a bit beastlier than they are, so we're making her a Wildhunt Shifter instead. That gives her +2 Constitution and +1 Strength, as well as 60' of Darkvision. She also becomes a Natural Tracker for proficiency in Survival checks. Tyrannosaurs are pretty good hunters, after all. Most importantly once a short rest you can Shift into a more reptilian form for a minute, gaining some temporary HP and advantage on wisdom checks. Also, nobody within 30' of you can have advantage against you for the duration. It's not enough to have 0% lizard and 100%, we need shades too.
We're also taking the Hermit background for Religion and Medicine proficiency. The T Rex is surprisingly spiritual, and also she's the one that reveals the big twist of the Requiem event. I don't think will give you a secret as big as "the whole world is a representation of a teenager's repressed feelings" (tho that is an accurate description of most D&D games), but I'm sure you'll get something juicy regardless.
Ability Scores
Your highest score is Constitution, I mean I know HP isn't just meat points, but you have a lot of meat to get through regardless. Number 2 is Strength. Tyrannosauruses can weigh up to 8 tons, so if you want to be able to lift yourself and stand we'll need to get that score up to... 500??? Third up is Wisdom. Rexes have massive sniffers, and your this is also where your fire comes from. Your Dexterity isn't that high, though to be fair it's pretty easy to hit something the size of a barn. Your Charisma's also low, though that makes sense given how you can't even speak most of the time. Your intimidation score's great though. Finally, dump Intelligence. Somehow I doubt you'd sit still enough to stay in a classroom.
Class Levels
1. Barbarian 1: We're mostly starting off as a barbarian for the extra health, but there's some cool stuff we get too, like proficiency in Strength and Constitution saves, plus Athletics and Nature checks. Dinosaurs are strong, oni are strong, a dinosaur oni is very, very strong.
You can also Rage off the bat a couple times a day, giving you resistance to physical damage, advantage on strength checks and saves, and extra damage you deal with strength-based attacks.
If you want to fight in a wedding dress you should also check out Unarmored Defense, giving you an AC of 10 plus your dexterity and constitution modifiers. Right now that's 14, which is still better than most light armors.
2. Druid 1: Now we'll switch over to druid to grab what everyone clicked for. Later, anyway. Right now you learn some Spellcasting, and now is a good time to point out how you can't cast spells and rage at the same time, and you'll drop concentration on spells if you start raging. It's a good thing to note, but by waiting to rage you can cast cantrips like Produce Flame for our first embers and Shillelagh so you can still basically carry a sword even though you're a druid. Carve up a quarterstaff and it's pretty much the same thing, right?
Starting off as something other than a tiefling means we don't get fire resistance. Unless we use Absorb Elements, of course. That gives us resistance against one elemental type, and even adds that damage to our next weapon attack. You can also use some medicine to Cure Wounds, and once you get a little chonkier you can stomp down to cause an Earth Tremor, dealing damage and turning ground into difficult terrain.
3. Druid 2: Second level druids get the Big Deal Wild Shape, and since you're a Moon druid we'll go over the whole thing in one go. Twice a short rest you can transform into a beast with a CR less than or equal to 1 or 1/3 your druid level, whichever is larger. You can't swim 'til level 4, and you can't fly 'til level 8. While transformed, your stuff either disappears, hits the ground, or stays on you, your choice. Your stuff doesn't fit you though, unless you've made major modifications to that wedding dress. Your physical stats (Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, and HP) are based on your shape, but you keep everything else. After the transformation ends, you have the same amount of HP you went into the form with. Also, you can use class and race bonuses if they're physically possible to use in this form. For once I'd understand if Shifting doesn't carry over, but all of the barbarian stuff should be fine. Also, you can't use your darkvision unless that form also has darkvision. You can transform for a number of hours per use equal to your druid level, and you transform as a bonus action. Plus, since these are Combat Wild Shapes you can spend bonus actions to heal them by spending spell slots. You can't cast spells while shaped, but you can concentrate on them.
We can't reach a T Rex yet, but a Deinonychus is a decent replacement until we get something beefier.
4. Druid 3: Third level druids can cast second level spells. If you want to spit fire while transformed, Flaming Sphere has your back. For some more healing, Lesser Restoration gives you a way to negate minor status effects for a proper Rope of Life.
5. Druid 4: Fourth level druids can swim, bus you can also use your first Ability Score Improvement to round up your Constitution and Wisdom for more HP and stronger flames. You can also use Mending to patch up your dress, since something tells me it's going to get a lot of wear and tear.
6. Druid 5: Fifth level druids get third level spells. Use Elemental Weapon for a fiery sword, or Revivify for the last part of your Rope of Life. I know the skill says "Death Immune", but bringing them back is almost as good, right?
7. Druid 6: When a sixth level moon druid attacks, it's a Primal Strike, meaning your claws and teeth are magical weapons. You can also transform into CR 2 creatures, like the mighty... Allosaurus. Still not a T Rex, but it'll take time to get there.
8. Druid 7: At seventh level, we get there. Thanks to your fourth level slots you can cast Polymorph, letting you fully transform into a beast with a CR equal to or less than your level. Another good reason for that level of barbarian- a T Rex is CR 8, so we'd have to wait a level to turn into a T Rex regardless. It's important to note this isn't wild shape, so your soft stats also transform, and obviously you can't concentrate on something else since you'd be concentrating on this. Also, all your gear disappears with this one.
If you want a fiery upgrade anyways, check out Fire Shield, which lasts for 10 minutes, no concentration required. You can make a cold shield to protect against fire damage, or a fire shield to protect against cold. Plus, if a creature hits you with a melee attack the shield will hit back with their respective damage types! I was going to make a joke about whether dinos are cold- or warm-blooded, but it turns out they figured that one out.. yesterday, wow. Yeah, they're warm-blooded. Go science!
9. Druid 8: We'll stick in druid for one last level so you can fly and pick up one more ASI. Both Allosaurus and Tyrannosaurus use piercing damage for their teeth, so pick up the Piercer feat for +1 Strength and the ability to re-roll a piercing damage die once a turn. On top of that, critting with piercing damage deals an extra die of damage for bigger chomps.
10. Barbarian 2: This is about as good as we can get a T-Rex with just Druid levels, so let's get a little beefier in general. As a second level barbarian, you have a Danger Sense giving you advantage on dex saves you can see coming. You can also make Reckless Attacks, giving you advantage on all your melee attacks at the cost of giving advantage to anyone hitting you for the rest of the round. Unless you're using that shifting we talked about at the start of this build. That'll prevent that advantage entirely, giving you free reign to go on a rampage.
Yeah this build's fun.
11. Barbarian 3: You know what's funner though? Setting things on fire. You can do that as a Storm Herald, giving you a 10' radius of fiery death if you pick the Desert option, which we are. When you start raging, and as a bonus action each turn, you can deal a bit of fire damage to everything in the area except yourself, no saves! And yes, this works with wild shape too. At least, it's no less possible as an Allosaurus than it is as a person.
You also gain some Primal Knowledge, making you proficient in Intimidation. Turns out fire-breathing dinosaurs are scary!
12. Barbarian 4: Use this ASI to bump up your Strength so your attacks are solid even when you're not a dino.
13. Barbarian 5: Fifth level barbarians get an Extra Attack each action, and while that doesn't stack with the T Rex I'm sure the Allosaurus form is greatful for the power boost. All your forms also get a speed boost thanks to Fast Movement, add 10' to all movement speeds.
14. Barbarian 6: Sixth level barbarians have a Storm Soul, so even while you aren't raging you have permanent resistance to fire damage, immunity to extreme heat, and you can set stuff on fire by touching it. Now you're starting to look more "dragon" than "lizard".
15. barbarian 7: seventh level barbarians have a feral instinct, giving you advantage on initiative rolls, and you can't be surprised if you rage on your first turn! speaking of, you can use an instinctive pounce as part of your rage, moving up to half your speed!
with fast movement and being a t rex, you can cover 105 feet in a single turn, with an action left over for chompin! a t rex's top speed is 17 mph, so if you dash you'll actually be a little bit faster than a real one!
16. Barbarian 8: Use this ASI to bump up your Wisdom for stronger tracking instincts and more powerful fire breath. I like melee builds, they make these levels waay faster!
17. Barbarian 9: ninth level barbarians can make a brutal critical, adding an extra die to critical hit damage. kinda like piercer, but not type-dependent.
18. Barbarian 10: At tenth level storm heralds command a shielding storm, giving creatures you choose fire resistance while within your storm aura. which is good, since if they're in your storm aura they're getting hit by your storm aura.
you also get another primal knowledge for perception proficiency! y'know that whole "they can't see you if you don't move" bit? completely made up. nothing can save you from the kijyo.
19. Barbarian 11: eleventh level barbarians have a relentless rage. the first time you'd drop to 0 HP while raging, you can try a dc 10 constitution save. if you succeed, you drop to 1 HP instead and the dc goes up by 5 each time you use it between rests. if the meteor didn't kill you I don't think some dude with a sword's gonna do the job.
20. Barbarian 12: use your last asi to bump up your wisdom again. the one downside to this multiclass is it kinda makes boosting your physical stats feel like a waste since they'll get replaced when you transform anyway, right?
Pros and Cons
Pros:
You have a lot of health. with over 200 as a human, an extra 100 from two allosaurs, and another 280 from two t rexes, that's almost 600 hp. plus half of that can be protected by rage for even longer life, plus you can heal yourself, plus you have a +10 to constitution saves so you probably won't die the first time you die. so you won't die.
and this isn't a defensive build either! even in your "weaker" allosaurus form you've got teeth that are stronger than a greatsword, dealing 2d10+4 damage each hit. also you have free reckless attacks for a minute per rest, and some brutal criticals means you'll deal 6d10 on a nat 20. On a t rex that's 4d12+7 piercing, or 10d12 on a crit. ya chomp good, is what i'm saying.
you would think on a build like this solid in offense and defense you'd at least move slowly, right? wrong. fast movement in a beast form is great, you can move over 100 feet in a single turn and you straight up can't get surprised, that just makes you angry.
Cons:
You have very low AC. For a tank, anyway. your humanoid AC is actually better than your T Rex AC thanks to unarmored defense but even that isn't that great. you still have tons of HP to fall back on, but it's not ideal.
you know this song and dance already. rage and casting don't mix. also, casting and casting don't mix, so you can't be at full power and be a T Rex at the same time. You can be a fire-breathing allosaurus, or a big scary T Rex, but not both.
While you do have some ranged options, most of the time you're a lizard, and they don't. If you end up fighting Quetzalcoatlus, you might get piledrived.

SHOKUGAN MODELING PROJECT SR-X
Saying nothing of its final quality, this is probably the scummiest release for a model I have ever seen. So, R-1 and R-Gun were both standard, mass produced releases, sold together (remember this, it'll be important later). Now, you'd think with that being the case, and their sizes, that R-2 and R-3 would both be separate mass releases, but they weren't. They were instead both a massively expensive P-Bandai release. And to top it off, many of its effect parts, alternate hands, and accessories came in another additional P-Bandai set, which also came with R-Gun's railgun parts. And SR-X only uses R-Gun with the railgun parts. So if you want an accurate R-Gun to go with your SR-X, you also need that third set, and you will own R-Gun at this point since it comes with R-1.
So to summarize, R-1 and R-Gun were a mass release, R-2 and R-3 were a P-Bandai release, and completed R-Gun is a different P-Bandai release. Really scummy way of draining someone's pockets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
R-1: The most standard robot of the set, it has a decent accessory pool, storage for all of its weapons on its person, and a vehicle mode. The additional joints in the shoulder parts allow for a wide range of movement that isn't impeded by anything transformation/combination related (in fact, it may be improved). The jet mode is sadly not that great (I'm pretty sure I've gotten the arms crossed every time I've transformed it), but I appreciate its inclusion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
R-2 Powered: For such a bulky bot, R-2 has pretty decent posability. While its legs are strange to work with at first because of all its transformation parts, they do have good range. The additional Powered armor parts also don't get in the way or impede movement or balance much at all. It's probably my favorite of the set.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
R-3 Powered: It's so strange that most of R-3's accessories are for its base form. R-3 without its Powered upgrade is very simple to construct, but decently posable, if a little tricky at the hips, whereas the Powered parts are the most complicated part of the entire build.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
R-Gun: R-Gun is very similar to R-1 in that it's a very posable with a lot of accessories and has a transformation to it. Unlike R-1, it's transformation is a lot more solid and doesn't require you to take it apart (apart from the railguns). I understand why those two were packaged together, even if the non-inclusion of the railguns still rubs me the wrong way.
Tumblr media
SR-X: And the reason we're all here: the SR-X. It is literally the largest model kit I have ever built, standing around 14in/35cm. Despite being an enormous combination, it is extremely solid. I'm able to pick it up and move it around without the fear of it falling apart. It's also very posable, with multiple joints in the shoulders, two waist joints, very good ankles, and many more.
And with the accessory set, it's able to replicate, I believe, every finisher is has in the game. Giant sword, using R-Gun, glowy fists, leg missiles, goofy eye beams, its jump kick. You can even remove the front portion of the eye beam and place it on a pair of included glasses if you're feeling particularly sporty that day.
Tumblr media
It does require a few adapters in the torso, and in the hips if you don't use the stronger replacement ones (which I did), but it was overall a very fun build, and putting it together was an interesting process in and of itself.
The Bad: In total, across all 3 releases, and including shipping, I spent around $500 on this set. And while I think this is a great model kit, I would never recommend someone drop that on this thing. I think maybe you could get away with half that? But not half a grand.
It doesn't help that there's technically a better, easier to obtain option. There was a release from RIOBOT last year that's a bit more expensive (around $650?), but does all the same stuff and a bit more, comes preassembled, is made of higher quality materials, etc. If you were going to go for this, I'd say just save up a bit more and get that one. (Although, looking at its specs, this one might be ever so slightly taller O_O)
The Details: I went pretty easy on this one (it is massive, afterall). I did some basic panel lining and used the included stickers. There were a few left over for R-3 when I finished that I still don't know where they go...
Overall, the SR-X is a ridiculous model kit on many levels, including its price tag, but other than that one I'd say they're all positives. I can't recommend it, but if you have a lot of money burning a hole in your pocket, there are worse things to spend it on. Just maybe don't buy them all at once.

Hello, I would like to hear your rant on proper bow techniques and the differences between the tmnt iteration's martial arts
OOOOOO BOWS!
now THAT is a hella good rant option right there~ I have a lot to say about bows man, they are not characterized accurately in a LOT of media lol so I might do a whole analysis on that for sure~
in terms of the other tmnt it would take me a while to do proper research to make sure I have all the facts correct. for example, I was thinking about doing a 2012 leo vs rise leo sword analysis to figure out if ANY of it is correct but they both are just so... different in fighting style and what not I think I might save that for when the movie comes out for Rise because he's gonna have his twin swords back in that and if I tried to compare their sword fighting with Leo's Odachi it would be like comparing apples to oranges
for you tho! I can do a little analysis by saying: twin swords are a pain to learn how to use, you gotta have REALLY good hand-eye coordination, strong wrists and arms, and possibly ambidextrous.
With japanese swords, it was actually very common to have a twin of some sort with your main sword, but that was primarily for samurai. Ninja may have used twin swords but it's hard to say because there isn't a ton of known history about their methods. The samurai twin swords I mentioned also are waaaaay different from what leo uses in 2012. Leo uses twin katana, while samurai had the main katana and a smaller, shorter sword always at the ready. The use of that sword was similar to a western quick draw. If you got too close for comfort, samurai would be able to quickly grab their second blade and use it to deflect and do a precise, quick-strike that could be lethal if you aren't expecting a counter. that's how samurai got to be so good in combat actually, they were strong and skilled with their style.
2012 Leo I'm pretty sure tries to twin EVERY MOVEMENT and in all honestly... I don't think that suits him? Like sure twin swords are cool but I've always thought it was weird and not really suited to his strategic mind to have two swords of similar length when I can see him kicking ass with a second, smaller sword. (maybe I'll do a post in the future about how duel wielding is overdone or something idk)
Rise Leo on the other hand, wields a giant odachi. you can even see its really heavy and awkward for him to use in the beginning. He's used to smaller swords of lighter weight and now SUDDENLY he has a sword the size of his body that has unbalanced weight. He flops around and is an uncooked noodle for a lot of the fights until he learns how to keep his balance with that dumb sword. that, my friend, is a realistic characterization of someone both struggling with a sudden weapon change that is just so different from him and how actually hard it is to weild bigger swords. Upper body strength and very good balance are important in any weapon wielding but it's a whole new ball game when you have to lift a heavy weapon. claymores are bulky and hard to wield as well, and they weigh more than Leo's Odachi (fun fact lol).
my main complaint with Rise Leo is they gave him back the twin swords in the finale because I actually liked all their new weapons, they were fun! but oh well~
when im not super busy with a huge project I may turn this into a bigger post but i hope it satisfies your cravings! (I'll get that bow analysis up in the future dont you worry ;3c )
thanks for the ask! -Pen

okey okey but like for your sentience au thing, and in one of your recent asks
like the one where the characters finally break free, childe's part had me thinking on how they can always be with you
what if, whatever, character manages to escape but what if they were tiny. like the same character size on the device you play on.
like what if they were pocket sized, is basically what I'm saying. then they can be always with ya.
ya know.
ack, too much.
anyways..
I'm really liking your writing and ideas. I've turned on my notifs, so that I can always be updated on when you post. and I just, plse continue to write. obvi ion wanna sounds like I'm forcing ya to continue writing.
drink some water, not too much nor too little, eat, takes nap and take care of yourself
This is a GREAT idea thank you!
I hope I wrote it the way you were hoping so far!
They Escape the Game (Part 1)
(Pocket Edition)
Characters included in this part:
Xiao, Diluc, Kaeya
(I may make a PC version but it will more than likely just be HC’s because the only thing that would change would be the slight change in height)
Xiao
It took everything in him to finally decide to leave everything he knows behind and take a leap of faith out of the game. All he’s every known has been Genshin and ONLY genshin. So when he had finally gotten out of it he was more than surprised by what he saw.
When he had made it out, the first thing he was met by
Was you.
Except, you were h u g e.
You looked down at the tiny person in front of you who had just literally hopped out of your screen.
As you took a closer look your realized it was xiao.
HA, that can’t be right, right?
You went to poke him to make sure you weren’t just making it up but right before you did you felt his tiny hands push against yours a-bit.
“What are you doing?” He asked with his usually annoyed tone. Your eyes widened as you realized, this was in fact xiao. He just, popped out of your game.
You left the palm of your hand open as he hesitantly climbed on. You carefully raised him closer to your face as he grabbed onto your thumb to secure himself on your hand.
“Xiao?” You asked.
“Who else would it be.” He retorted, taking a quick glance at the very large objects around him. He was used to the large mountains in Liyue but nothing of this size.
Having the tiny man in the palm of your hand was such a weird feeling but you had to admit his tiny angry face did look adorable. You gently placed him back down as you began to think.
“How are you even here?”
“...” no response came from the tiny yaksha as he looked away, seemingly avoiding the question. He looked around your room a bit more and noticed that you had his mask on your wall.
“How did you get that.” He asked as he pointed to it, looking back down towards his hip where his now tiny mask still remained.
“Oh, this was a gift from a friend of mine.” You said as you carefully took it down and placed it in-front of him.
Carefully he stood on top of the mask and admired the detail, it was accurate to the one he had, which was impressive but he dare not say that out loud. He lightly hopped off the mask as he looked back at your phone that now had an empty space where he had been.
His mind did start to wander as he thought about how literally all he knew was essentially
A lie.
Not wanting to think about it to much he turned back towards you.
“Traveler... pick me up.” He demanded as his now outstretched hands wrapped around your finger as you lifted him back up to your face.
“I am now going to stay with you to protect you at all times. No, you do not have a say in this.” He proclaimed as you lightly chuckled.
“What’re you going to protect me with, a toothpick?” You joked and xiao pulled out his spear and lightly poked your finger, not enough to make you bleed but it still hurt causing you to almost drop him.
“Didn’t think that through, did you.” You laughed.
Going about daily life wasn’t too hard with Xiao always around. You found different places to hide him so if someone walked in they wouldn’t see him.
When going outside you attempted putting him in your pocket but it was a bit to much of a tight fit for him to stick his head out well. So you decided to get a small empty bag.
He’s often very quiet throughout the day, just enjoying being around you finally. He didn’t even care about how you looked he just wanted to be around you especially now that he’s in a huge world full of unfamiliar things.
Diluc
At first Diluc was unsure about dropping everything and leaving, since there was no guarantee of him getting back if he felt homesick. However, this thought was overruled when you had joined the game again.
He wasn’t one to just jump head first into things but this time he was sure about what he wanted to do. And before you could even do your normal greeting he had leaped from the screen.
He didn’t think about the fact that he had no idea where he was going to end up when he jumped through but that question was quickly answered when he landed in your face.
You immediately swatted at you face, thinking it was a bug, not caring to open your eyes and look at who it actually was.
Diluc hung on for dear life as you finally swatted him off but he luckily landed on the pillow in-front of you.
As you rubbed your mouth hoping to get the feeling of what you thought was a bug off your mouth you finally heard it.
“Traveler?” The voice said. It was a strong voice and sounded, a bit far away. You looked around for the voices host, but saw no one. Until you looked down at the pillow in front of you and noticed the small redhead who was standing there.
You had no idea what to say, this isn’t real right? But it’s so convincing. He practically look as if he was actually there.
“Diluc?” You asked hesitantly as he looked back up at you. This was the first time he had ever seen you face to face, you were a lot bigger than he had thought you were going to be but he found your features beautiful nonetheless.
You carefully put your hand down for him to climb up and he did. He held onto your thumb go slight security as you lifted him up to get a closer look, and sure enough, it was Diluc, down to every last detail.
“Oh my goodness it really is you! Why are you so small?” You asked, he shrugged his shoulders and turned back to look at the thing he popped out of which was your phone.
“Well I’m assuming since I come through that portal object over there, I ended up being no bigger than that size.” He said as you put him carefully back down on the phone.
“What is this thing anyways?” He asked as he tapped the sword attack button on your screen causing your character to attack.
“Ah, so that’s how you did it. I will admit this is a little bit weird for me.” He said as he turned back towards you.
“Are you still able to bring out your weapon and everything?” You asked and he nodded and drew his weapon. You were amazed to say the least. Your favorite character literally just popped out of your game.
“This is amazing! I can’t believe you’re here, how did you even manage to get out? Do you plan to go back? How would you even get back?” You rambled on with more and more questions as Diluc just calmly watched you as a small smile graced his features.
He didn’t care about getting back right now, all he cares about was that he was finally with you.
Kaeya
Your day had been pretty rough. Nothing was going right from the beginning so when you finally got back home you decided to just sit down and play Genshin.
When you entered you had realized Kaeya wasn’t in his usual spot which confused you but you decided to do a few quests before questioning it.
Eventually you had just gotten to the point in the Lantern Rite where you had to talk to Kaeya and you were ECSTATIC.
You made your way from Liyue to Mondstadt as fast as you could. And from a distance you could see the marker as it counted down the closer you got to it. As you made your way to fountain there he was.
He smiled at your presence as you ran around him in circles, trying your best to say hi. You stopped in front if him and went through the quest dialogue, praying to Barbatos that he wouldn’t disappear after wards, and lucky enough for you he didn’t!
You hopped up and down out if pure joy.
Kaeya chuckled a bit at your excitement as he put his hands on your characters shoulders to stop them from hopping.
“I have a little surprise for you, I’ve been working on it for a while. I need you to wait here.” He said as he backed up from your character. You watched him as he just disappeared.
“The hell?” You asked out loud, what kind of surprise was this? You expected him to appear back in front of you in game but it never happened.
You waited a little bit expecting something to happen, yet nothing did. Until you were met face to face with the blue haired Calvary captain.
Not expecting the sudden figure to just appear in-front of you freaked out and jumped up from where you were seated, cause Kaeya to go flying.
Luckily it was that far of a distance and he managed to land safely.
“Kaeya?” You asked, thinking you might’ve just had your phone to close to your face.
“Surprise!” He said, climbing back up your chair. He landed on a space where you both could see each other as he finally got a good look at your face.
You had no idea what to say as you looked at the tiny captain in-front of you. He still did some of his idle animations as he stood, waiting for your response.
“How did you get out?” You asked him, leaning down towards him a bit.
“I have my ways.” He replied. It’s Kaeya, did you really expect a full detailed answer? He looked around your room, taking in the new surroundings. It was nothing like he had seen in Mondstadt, for one thing there was technology.
This was entirely new to him, and there didn’t seem to be any weapons anywhere.
Your entire room was practically the size of Mondstadt to him.
“I must say, I didn’t actually think this would work, but I’m glad I could finally meet you.” He smiled, you smiled back, still unsure of what was happening and questioning if you should make an appointment with an eye doctor.
“How long have you been trying for?” You asked looking down at him, he paused as he thought of his answer, the time difference in your world was drastic from that of Teyvat.
“Well it’s hard to say but I have tried maybe, 25-30 times before. I was starting to lose hope if I’m being honest.” He admitted. You had no idea he was this dedicated to getting out of the game
To see you.
It was flattering but also a bit scary to think your favorite character has wanted to meet you just as much as you wanted to meet him.
“This height difference nah be a problem though.” He pointed out with a chuckle.
“We’ll figure something out I’m sure.” You responded
-Birdy
(This basically just serves as an introduction to the idea and hopefully I will have enough time to come back and expand on what they do as tiny people)
