Ok, I know She-ra reboot wasn't your fandom, but you allowed allows to rant about it in your ask box, which I thank you for.
So, we all come from different cultures and have different beliefs. We can't all collectively agree on what Adora and Catra are to each other. But we will take some facts. So, they were two orphans that grew up in a foster home environment and had the same foster mother, but we all know they saw Shadow Weaver was a literal mother, they just never explicitly called her mom. Now, one thing was is that Catra and Adora were very close as children and growing up, that Adora being the sweetheart she was always tried to include Catra even when Catra pushed her away. Catra is a cat girl so she slept by Adora's feet, they apparently even showered together? (Idk how true that is, I think someone who worked on the show said that, I don't remember it being in or mentioned in the show, if anyone wants to come enlighten me) ok, so we get it. They were very close growing up.
Ok, now here's my gripe with the trope. So ND Stevenson revealed early on that Catradora would be end game. A lot of people had their beef with that, especially since some felt the show didn't show any character growth for their romance. So they end up together at the end, they kiss and credits roll.
So, I looked it up. The trope doesn't exactly have a name? But it's "we were very close as children, got separated for a bit, but we reunited to date now", yeah a mouth full. I wouldn't call it childhood romance tbh. I've seen this trope used in other shows and media. I don't like that trope. More examples are star vs the forces of evil, but you know, we'd had to watch Star and Marco be with other people first. But it's different since they met at 14 and 15 and were roommates for a bit before Star returned to Mewni for a bit and they kissed before the finale.
There's a lot of animes with this trope too. Kizaiver, Your Lie in April, Blue Spring Ride, A Silent Voice. Sorry, just tried naming some popular animes from the top of my head.
Ok, I don't understand this trope. I'm sorry, I just don't find it realistic. When I've seen "real life" examples, turns out they just had history together in 8th grade and sat at different tables never speaking to each other, but met at 26 and got married later. Ok sorry, this is weirdly specific. Just I feel like this trope isn't real or applicable to real life. I feel like some people just want to emphasize and put importance to their relationship in a way that's not true or wasn't there.
So here's how it applies to HB. So Viv really saw some cute fanart and incorporated and changed the story up for it????
Ok???? But like....the ship is still so bad....
It just feels so forced and feels like she went this way cause she saw it a few times in other works.
Ok, sorry for the rant. I just truly feel like some creators pull stuff out of their ass to try making us ship bad ships.
Thanks for the insight into Catradora. I think regardless of how two characters meet, whether they knew each other as kids or not, it's not going to be a good ship if the writing isn't there.
Honestly I think Stolitz was never going to feel natural or sincere -- why none of her canon ships ever really do -- because Vivzie doesn't seem to get why one human being loves another. Her understanding of it stalled early on in her yaoi fic days and never went anywhere beyond that. They're gay, that's enough for Viv.

Skarner sketches - 2024-04-03-06
Okay, so, uh... this is new?
I don't actually play LoL for a multitude of reasons, and I can't claim to have been very deeply ingrained in its lore before either. Sometimes one champion grabs my attention temporarily, like Tahm Kench (most accurate re-imagining ever of the Devil in folklores), Kindred (Death never had a more awesome interpretation), Braum (he is just an amazing guy) or the God of All Sass in the Universe, Aurelion Sol (Boop). But I have never created fanart of them, or started reading up on the lore even at a surface level.
Well, for some reason, the newly reworked Skarner has somehow gotten my attention on an entirely new level. No, I'm still not going to play League. I might check out Riot's non-PvP games, tho...
Turns out, I'm kinda sorta joining in when LoL's lore building is at its lowest, few new champions, no "color stories" anymore, and basically no other stories, which is... kind of heart-breaking, not gonna lie. Because I see the unified lore Riot is trying to build and it is genuinely impressive both in ambition and in actual execution. They can even work in redesigns and reworks into the story seamlessly at times. I hope they pick up steam again soon.
Skarner might have gotten my attention because of his design; because of his amazing similarity in appearance and in role to the best sea monster ever put to screen - Leviathan from Atlantis: The Lost Empire; because of his banger music; or because he has a lot in common with my Ra from my Egyptian mythology story idea where they both teeter on the brink between utter paranoia-fueled tyrannic rule and genuine protection of their people.
Whatever it may be, I like Skarner, the Primordial Sovereign. I am not sure how much LoL's story is allowed to progress, and champions to have arcs, but I hope against all hope that Skarner's story will involve one hell of a bi--slap from life that will get him back on the proper way to protect his people and not actually ruin them in his paranoia.
Maybe the Void will swallow Ixtal in a surprise attack, but Skarner manages to make it out with citizens on his back like Milio, and Qijana as the last Yun Tal and therefore de facto human leader of the Ixtali. The formerly isolationist nation is now forced into nomadic life atop Skarner as they seek a new home or allies to get back at the Void finally. I mean, Jax is looking for volunteers from what I have heard, and Skarner actually likes Jax and Icathia. Now... wouldn't that be a fanfic idea?
I hope I can deliver a few more sketchdumps, because I have ideas both for Skarner and for the brackern species as a whole.

10 Anti LO Asks
1. You know the header image placed at the beginning of every episode (portrait of P on the left, black and white sketch of HxP in the middle, portrait if H on the right)? The full image of the sketchier version of the black and white drawing (the version used in older episodes) is actually smut (you can see it on 4chan)… You’d think RS would at least make a minimal effort to hide her agenda to sexualise everything but nOoOoO

2. the same-face syndrome in this series is something else, I swear. legitimately couldn't tell Apollo and Eros apart for the longest time. all male and female characters are drawn with the exact same faces. it gets really annoying honestly
3. I don't know if this bothers anyone else (maybe it's just me) but it seems like the characters' facial expressions can be really... off at times? Like, characters will be drawn smiling in situations where it'd make no sense for them to be smiling? And be drawn with vacant expressions in inappropriate times?
Like how (spoiler) Daphne is drawn with a smile when Apollo turns her into a tree (?) when she should have looked terrified???
As an artist who specializes in facial expressions, the ones in LO legitimately throw me off at times.
4. Something that kind of weirds me out about LO is that both Hades and Persephone are kind of awful people (like literally. Slavery, murder, greed, etc.) but it's not portrayed as a bad thing?? at all, really??? Other than a "That's terrible!" here and there, the full weight of what these two characters do doesn't get addressed and is even excused?
And we as the readers are still supposed to believe these two are the good guys? Hades is the king of the underworld, he can do horrible stuff and get away with it. And we already know Persephone won't have to face the consequences of her actions -_-
Imo, this whole story would make more sense if these two were villains/descending into villainy, but that's obviously not what RS is planning.
5. This isn’t a critique I just wanna know if something went over my head, but when Zeus tells Hades to go be king and take Kronos with him Demeter shows up and Zeus and Demeter walk away. Was that suppose to be about Hera getting torn in half or just something we don’t know yet

6. After reading the latest chapter where Hades drones on and on to a crying Persephone about how he'll take care of her and get her everything she needs and she'll have a footman waited on her, a apartment with a great view, etc etc.
It really puts into perspective how spoiled she actually is. Like, that chapter was almost hard to read.
7. Why does RA draw so much porn? It’s so uncomfortable how most of her fans are underage yet she doesn’t even bother to hide the fact that she makes NSFW content
From OP, Not Anon: Tbf, RS did have her nsfw behind a paywall. I don’t expect creators to hide that they make nsfw, especially since they don’t have much control over their audience. Nsfw is how a lot of webtoon creators make money after all. RS already stopped using patreon though so I haven’t seen her post nsfw or anything that couldn’t be considered artistic nudity in a while.
8. Anybody else notice how Persephone is always portrayed almost as a poor, lower class god who's worked in the fields instead of lived in luxury? "Oh, poor her!"? BUT we have, if my memory serves me, NO actual lower class characters at all?
I don't know if I'm making much sense, but basically the only reason Persephone seems like such an underdog is because RS hasn't introduced a character who has it worse than her. Despite that there are people living in literal slavery while she's living it up?
From OP, not Anon: Nymphs, satyrs, and other mythical beings are lower class in LO. The gods would be considered middle/upper class so yeah.
9. wasnt the original hymn about the power of women and a mother defending her daughter from a cruel marriage by standing up to men and bringing the world to its knees until they finally took her seriously? like thats feminist to me, not claiming persephone loved her kidnapper and demeter is a big bitch for trying to stop it. im not saying making hxp not full of sexual assault is bad, i'd much rather read that, but demonizing demeter for the sake of a man and a heterosexual romance aint it, chief.

I love how lo fanart always depicts hades as some young male model as if rachel isnt very open that she designed him off mads and his depiction of hannibal? like maybe they know if they drew him like a 55+ year old man like rachel intended they might realize hes a creep for wanting to bang a baby faced 19 year old.

Does fanart ever inspire your writing?
Sometimes! Actually, I meant to do a post for this and forgot 😅 So I've never had a fanart inspire plot really, but I have had it inspire setting! Below is a list, as complete as I can make it.
Some pieces of art have helped motivate me when I was already working on a fic with a similar setting, but I see that more as me bending the art around the idea I have in my head rather than it inspiring me. Sometimes I wanna tag art I see with my preexisting AUs if it fits, but I worry that the artist might not like it, especially if it's for their own AU, so I usually only do that if it's the piece of art that kicked off me making the AU in the first place because then it's like "Hey, you arted so good it made me write a thing."
SLAS: As mentioned in the second author's note, I started thinking about an ex-assassin bodyguard AU primarily because of this art. Though bodyguards was a trope I had been eyeing beforehand, that art turned it into inescapable brainrot.
OTOS: The fic was completely my own, but one of the smut scenes in the final chapter was inspired by an art done by Jem. It's NSFW so I'm not sure about linking it directly here, but it's linked in the final chapter's author's note.
BIOTS: This is halfsie, but I'll include it. The smutfic of the Greys/Waiting For My Spaceship To Come Back For Me series includes glowdora (Glowing!Adora), which has been featured in art on NSFW SPOP Twitter. A friend and I were actually talking about glowdora in DMs literally two weeks before we saw the art for it start, though, so it's kinda handwavey, and no one particular piece of it is responsible. The art did inspire me, but the idea also wasn't unique to the art.
iHTWcyn: Only halfsies again. I had the idea already, saw a piece of art of farm girl Adora that I can't for the life of me find now, and just sighed and made a new word document LOL. The art is somewhere on my blog but I'm not going digging for it now considering it was just the push I needed to write the idea down. This was back in December and I'm not scrolling that far.
Three Makes Two: The kitten brainrot took me because of a mamacatradora that my friend @jem-jarrett (once again) did, but it's not posted and it's for another AU that isn't mine so I can't link it. However, it did feature Catra and Adora wearing babyslings and carrying their two kittens around, which gave me brainrot and led to me writing TMT. It shares no similarities with the AU the art was originally made for, but that's what kicked it off.
Lullaby of the Drowned: Another halfies inspiration. I had been thinking about various ways to do a mermaid AU since late 2020 and narrowed in on the idea of a Pirate Catra/Siren Adora AU in April of 2021. I even added the AU to my upcoming projects list on May 18th under the name “Carry Me To Unknown Shores” (which I only changed after I started writing the fic). There had been various pieces of mermaid art (some generic and some for She-ra) that made me go “damn, I gotta get back to that mermaid AU” but this one is the one that gave me the idea for Adora’s siren form looking like She-ra and the story beats started following after seeing the art. I outlined it very quickly.
Let Me Ride: I got the idea to first do a motorcycle AU from all the fanart with them, which eventually morphed into the idea for Let Me Ride.
On the Rocks is an unreleased AU inspired by a piece of art in a similar manner to SLAS, but I can't say more on that without spoiling it. I'll add it when I can.

when do you think theyll make hawkdemetri canon; in s4 or later (assuming it goes to 6 seasons)? i think the romantic aspects of their relationship will be empathized more clearly in s4 (hawk's jealousy of yasmime, their deep understanding and love for each other, etc) but they won't officially get together until the fifth season, leaving the last one to explore them figuring out how to go public and all that. or or i was thinking they do get together in s4 but due to the cobras threatening demetri or smth like that, they break up shortly after and don't get back together until the s5 or 6 finale. i feel like i'm being bold bc nothings set in stone but w what jon and hayden liked/rted im just ahhh!! so excited!!

IF SHE-RA WENT THROUGH WITH IT MAYBE IT ISN’T A MERE GAY KARATE PIPE DREAM
I personally see them making Hawk/Demetri an endgame pairing, so they wouldn’t officially get together until close to the end of the series--maybe even IN the series finale (which, as I believe I mentioned in one of my other posts, I would strongly prefer to be the kids’ senior prom, where a giant karate fight breaks out and everyone has to battle in tuxes and dresses because it would be HILARIOUSLY AWESOME). I think they might do it like She-Ra did Catradora, where they don’t confess their love and get together until the last (or close to the last) episode (Ah, She-Ra spoilers, I guess...but anyone who doesn’t know by now that Catra and Adora end up together has been living under a rock XD) but there’s LOTS of ship tease prior and maybe even a stolen kiss/hand-hold or two leading up to that moment. Either way, if they decide to go the Hawkmetri route, it definitely has Endgame Ship vibes to me, which means...good news is, we’re gonna win this bitch, and bad news is, I don’t think we’ll be seeing Hawkmetri proper anytime soon, especially if the show goes on for 6+ seasons D: But hey, we sure as hell have something to look forward to, if our hope isn’t totally misplaced!
I think most likely Demetri and Yasmine will date throughout Season 4, and I can see the writers using this to give Hawk a “green-eyed epiphany” of sorts, where he realizes he’s jealous of Yasmine in slightly more than a you’re-hanging-out-with-my-best-friend-more-than-me kind of way, and he’s just like “...oh fuck, am I gay? Shit shit SHIT” and cue Big Boi Angst! Probably by Season 5 Dem and Yaz will be broken up (because ain’t no one telling me a relationship founded on wedgies lasts more than one goddamn season), and that’s when we’ll start getting a lot more ship tease with Demetri and Hawk--subtle touches, a bit of hand-holding (but, of course, they’d find a way to do it in contexts where they can get away with it lol), “friendship teasing” that’s basically flirting, longing gazes when the other isn’t looking, getting a little TOO contact-happy when they spar--that kinda deal. Maybe at the end of Season 5, they’ll share a kiss, but they won’t want to address it or it’ll come with some complication. Like they’re both drunk, or maybe one kisses the other and then doesn’t want to talk about it afterwards because they’re too embarrassed, etc etc. And they’re both trying to figure out if everyone’s even going to be cool with them being gay anyways.
Season 6 I see as being more or less the same thing, with lots of ship tease and mutual pining and such, but it’s a bit more intense now and kinda complicated by the fact that they’re more directly aware of their affection for each other being romantic and they’re both trying to come to terms with the fact that they’re definitely probably not straight. They’re also slowly realizing they’re full-on in love with each other too, and they’re both trying to work up the courage to just ask the other to be with them. And then at the end of the season they finally do it, and then go to Karate Prom together!!! The madlads!!!
GRANTED, I’m REALLY trying not to get my own hopes up about all this, BUT the fact that one of the show creators liked someone’s tweet asking if Hawk and Demetri were gonna be the LGBT rep and another creator straight-up RETWEETING Hawk x Demetri fanart is...admittedly very promising!!! I’m really really hoping beyond hope that this ship happens!!! But Korrasami happened, Catradora happened...so anything is possible!!! It’s certainly easier to make a gay ship with semi-major characters canon than it used to be. I just hope the homophobic side of the Cobra Kai fanbase doesn’t mess this up for us by bitching about “PC” LGBT representation to the showrunners or something :/ Man...it’s honestly kind of alarming to see the amount of people who seem against shipping Hawk and Demetri solely because...they’re both guys??? Like people really be like “UGH these two guys are PLATONIC FRIENDS why must you make it GAY???” As if anyone in the history of EVER has said “UGH this guy and this girl are PLATONIC FRIENDS why must you make it STRAIGHT???” because...they’re already “defaulted” to be straight :/ Sigh...this is the depressing world we live in, I guess.
Fingers still crossed for Hawk x Demetri, though!!! Let’s make it canon through the Power of Karate!!!

Okay, so Minna Sundberg uploaded a new comic, and, uh...what happened?
It’s called “Lovely People” if I remember correctly. It started out as a pretty decent commentary on social credit systems, but then spiraled downwards into a Fundamentalist Christian tract. The entire reason I liked her work to begin with was because yes, she had a great art style, but also because Stand Still Stay Silent was an interesting usage of pagan mythologies.
According to the author’s note, she found a newfound faith in Christianity, which is great and all, but, like...I’m concerned? Not just for her work, but for her as well. Saying that her audience can only repent for their sins by converting is a staggeringly terrible idea and kind of a spit in the face to some of them, especially people like me who don’t have religious beliefs.
I’m not sure what to think. I’m just...I’m just kind of confused right now, if I’m being honest. This probably shouldn’t affect me as bad as it does, but it does. I hope Stand Still Stay Silent doesn’t turn into Lovely People, because I genuinely enjoy Stand Still Stay Silent and I really don’t want to stop reading it if she starts cramming her beliefs into it. I don’t normally mind works when they’re political from the start, but just shoving it into something that wasn’t political to begin with seems like a recipe for disaster.

The various Minecraft SMPs I watch as literary genres/categories.
Hermitcraft - early middle school fantasy with no stakes where everyone’s just sort of chilling.
Empires SMP - solidly middle school fantasy with a lighthearted tone that keeps divebombing straight into “ow”.
Dream SMP - a straight-up YA novel with bloodshed, chaos and angst.
3rd Life/Last Life - that chaotic Hunger Games fanfic you wrote on a sleep-deprived binge in 8th grade that is somehow still good despite being written at the absolute peak of your edginess.

Going in blind: Watching season 2 for the first time. Random thoughts.
Huh. Only 7 episodes. Not complaining necessarily. For series with an ongoing plot I've definitely become more in favor with their seasons only having as many episodes as they need rather than them having to stretch themselves out to full up a certain number of episodes, which can lead to padding and just bad character moments.
Episode 1: Jeez. Catra visiting Shadow Weaver's cell just to rub her success in her face and verbally abuse her back for once. It's like a twisted version of Zuko and Ozai from ATLA. Catra's upbringing under her was abusive but this is far from a healthy way for her to deal with it. She's basically deliberately swimming in her resentment.
Episode 2: It's not that I'm rooting for her but by-golly was it fun to watch Catra act like just the absolute worst she could while she was Glimmer and Bow's captive.
I touched on this in season 1 but part of the drama of the heroes feeling guilt over leaving Entrapta behind is kind of lost on me a bit simply because it was her own fault it happened. She deliberately went back into the purge room because of her machine obsession, which then closed on her and erupted in flames. It was more than reasonable to assume she was dead and no one but her was to blame, so I'm not really able to be invested in their guilt over it.
That said, weirdly enough I do like that her "abandonment" doesn't seem to be even a blip on the radar for Entrapta herself. She hasn't joined the horde because she resents the heroes or felt left behind, she simply is so obsessed with machines and experimentation that she'll be on the side of whoever lets her do the most of that. Like, it's selfish and irresponsible but it's very in-character and I'd far rather have a traitor motivation be based in that over something stupid like a misunderstanding.
Episode 3: I love the mental image of Shadow Weaver thinking up princess-themed ghost stories to tell Adora as a child.
So, if the previous She-Ra Mara separated Eternia from the other realms/planets/whatever she did and that's what cut off the She-Ra line for 1000 years, I'm guessing Hordak may be from the time before that happened, thus his drive to create portals and calling Eternia a backwards world. Either he's naturally long-lived or his technology is extending his life.
Episode 4: You know, you could maybe argue it was vague enough that it could be taken other ways but I'm definitely getting some vibes here that Scorpia is crushing on Catra. She literally refers to the two of them as soulmates at one point. I know she says she's trying to be friends but this feels a level beyond that.
Fun little reference to the original She-Ra cartoon thrown in there (and maybe Cowboy Bebop...? James Bond...? What was Glimmer's art style supposed to be?). I like how it is more like just playful ribbing than anything outright dumping on the original. Again, I've never seen original She-Ra but whenever remakes/adaptations go out of their way to trash to the original I always kind of wonder why they bothered doing an adaptation if the original is just that bad? Also, I was having trouble sleeping so it was about 2am when I watched this episode and the very Eartha Kitt Catwoman Catra made it very difficult for me not to lose my **** and stay quiet. With how much of a contrast that version is from the one in this series, that was hilarious. Bonus note, it's a nice touch that Frosta's version of Catra is a pretty crasher in that sweet suit, since that's the only impression of Catra she's ever had.
Adora being a chosen one is definitely elevated up simply by how much the pressure of what she's supposed to be is getting to her. I'm likely going to keep making Avatar The Last Airbender comparisons throughout the series but that's partly because I went into this series figuring it'd be at least structured similar to ATLA (season 1 being more episodic and a little more kid-friendly as it builds up the world before getting more serious later). Adora and Aang are interesting to compare here. Aang's worries early on were less apparent because he was more in-denial/choosing not to think about his problems that much, which fit with his character as a free-spirited Air Nomad. While Adora is much more military-minded. She can't keep herself from thinking about her problems and trying to prepare for the worst-case scenario. And jeez, that idea of who/how Catra is in her mind. Not only beating her but making her watch as she takes everything she cares about away. Not Shadow Weaver, not Lord Hordak, but Catra. That whole Lion King Mufasa/Scar moment between them in episode 11 and their fight in the S1 finale really did a number on her mental image of her old friend. Not reasonably so.
Minor note: I'm sure I'm the only one who got this impression but by the look of it, the way the robot's eye moved, and the music, after getting the soda spilled on it that little spybot gained sentience for half a second and then immediately died. It was so darkly comedic I had to laugh.
Episode 5: So that red disc is basically She-Ra's Red Kryptonite, having an effect on the mind rather than the body. The drunk Adora joke doesn't really do it for me but it did get some nice interactions going between Scorpia and Sea Hawk, two characters I certainly wasn't expecting to bond. I did really like Catra's panic when berserker She-Ra nearly beheads her. The implication is that is Adora really wanted to kill her Catra would already probably be dead. It's a thing I like about powerhouse characters like Superman or Aang, who could just demolish everything around them and don't simply because they're a good person...which in turn makes them the scariest person on the planet when they're well and truly ticked off. I'm not going to lie, I do kind of want to see a She-Ra version of Aang when Appa was stolen or when Superman fought The Elite.
Also, Catra's line of "I have control over Adora. I'm not giving that up for anything.". There's a lot to read into there.
Episode 6: I guess my prediction was sort of right. Shadow Weaver became basically a magic parasite and while it did increase the power she's capable of the implication seems to be that she needs a constant fix of magic to keep herself going, thus her attachment to the Black Garnet.
Have we seen Micah before? Given how long ago the flashback seems set, the fact that Shadow Weaver didn't kill him and thus he probably becomes someone important later in life, I'm guessing he's Glimmer's dad and the queen's late husband, since I think he's the only important male character whose face we haven't seen yet. Also, he's voice by Ezra from Star Wars Rebels and that cracks me up for some reason. It's the exact same voice and a relatively similar character.
I compared Catra and Shadow Weaver with a kind of twisted version of Zuko and Ozai and that definitely still fits here. Both Catra and Zuko confront their parent and call them out for the inexcusable abuse they put them through but while that moment was the start of Zuko's upwards journey this and SW's betrayal seems like it's going to cause Catra to spiral even further. Makes sense why Adora leaving affected her so much. She's probably the only one Catra's ever had that she could consistently trust and rely on, even if she did somewhat resent her.
Not surprised Hordak is getting along with Entrapta. She's not socially aware enough to be scared or intimidated by him, so she'll speak frankly, and since all she wants to talk about is the machines, experiments, and how they could get them to work Hordak probably doesn't take much issue with that. She's producing results, which is what he cares about, thus also why Shadow Weaver and Catra started losing favor with him. I wonder if Catra is going through imposter syndrome? Shadow Weaver had that line that Entrapta earned her place next to Hordak and, if you think about it, Catra hasn't really "earned" anything. We saw that she didn't really take her training or studies that seriously, showing up late to combat practice and even getting partial credit for what Adora beat. She wasn't promoted to Force Captain because of her own abilities but because Adora had defected when she was supposed to get that title. She's come close to a few victories but never really had any except for Glimmer and Bow's kidnapping...whom she then basically let escape when she returned Adora's sword to her. She doesn't have the slightest clue how the horde's bureaucracy works when trying to get things done, like simply getting troops armor. Given how much better than her Adora always was and how little she herself has to her name, I wonder is subconsciously Catra believes she doesn't deserve her current position and thus why she's fretting so much over trying to prove herself.
Episode 7: Am I mistaken or did Bow's parents say that he's the youngest of TWELVE siblings? I was going to ask whether Bow was adopted or if his dad's used a surrogate or if maybe there's even just simply magic in She-Ra's world that allows two people of the same sex to have a child together but now I'm just focused on the 12 kids thing. I get nervous just imagining myself having more than one. You should see me when I'm with two cats. I have to pet both of them because I'd feel like I'd be making one feel left out and like the other is the favorite. I'm a mess with kids.
The dad with dreadlocks (Lance?), his design looked familiar to me and I finally realized it reminded me a of a fanart design for a human Grim from The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. Very different voices between those two characters though.
I wonder if there's any significance to the robot protecting the crystal having the same design as those in the artic in episode 5? Obviously both have the connection to the First Ones but the robot in the forest who was also protecting First Ones' tech had a more insect-like design over these more worm/Graboid ones.
I'm kind of curious what Hordak would have done if Catra had told the truth. Given his interactions with her and Shadow Weaver he doesn't seem like the time to tolerate failure but I suppose the implication here is that he at least would respect those who own up to their failures. Or I suppose more simply he was just testing to see if she would lie to him and since she did there's little merit in keeping her in a position of authority anymore where she could lie about important things again.
Season 2 verdict: Still enjoying it. Another person on this reddit recommended I view seasons 2 and 3 as one since they are basically just one season split in two. I was going to do that but this ended up longer than I thought I would, so I'll just do 2 and 3 separate to keep them semi-organized and easier to read.
I think overall Catra is my favorite character since she has the most interesting backstory, interactions, and just general path through the story out of everyone. She's like Pearl from Steven Universe or, well, Zuko. There's just so much baggage there that she's trying and kind of failing to deal with. I'm always invested in whatever's happening when she's onscreen. Hordak so far is a good big boss villain for Adora to face but Catra is a good archenemy for her.

I love all the couples in she-ra... Nothing felt forced or awkward, I liked them all even though I usually don't care too much about romance??? But like all the romance was done good????? Differently one from another but ????
Like sea hawk and mermista ??? Good, there's something about them that I always liked, like he seems like an annoying guy but not really???, he was actually nice and all that, IDK I'm weak for couples with one serious and the other silly and they making it work..
Bow and Glimer without it being a big deal because they've always been the bestest friends and super close and love each other but it wasn't a big deal romantically because it was already there??? IDK how to explain but it was GOOD, like it wasn't a love confession, it was an acknowledgement and nothing needed to change so yeah
Spinnerella and netossa are married and I'm SO happy they finally had screentime and their relationship showed and it was good...
Entrapta is wonderful gift, with wrong hordak who's a gift too, and with hordak, this all is more ambiguous but it's good and I'm ok with this
Catra and Adora? Yes... So good, I need to rewatch all the show with the context that it's actually real, I loved their portrayal this whole season, good, fuck shadowweaver for trying to separate them >:(, so good.. and the kiss.. was wonderful, I will reblog a hundred fanarts of it, I still can't believe it, I never believed it since the start of the show, but now I'm happy ♥️♥️♥️♥️

Some Thoughts on She-ra and the Give and Take Between Fandom and Media
You know, one of the weirdest side effects of falling in love with She-ra and how amazingly and openly queer everything is... Is realizing just how much energy I was putting into making other media work for me.
Like before, I went into pretty much every new piece of mainstream media thinking to myself "Yeah, this isn't gonna give me what I want, but I can enjoy it in the meantime and hit up the fanfics and fanart either. This is fine." And I'm not even talking about actively queer-baiting! I'm talking the bare minimum of zero sum gay, maybe a few lingering touches here and there but no indication it'll ever happen outside my own head. And while I do still think that the ability to carve out something you're into and love out of preexisting media is one of the most beautiful things about fandom, it never occurred to me just how much I was having to put into that until I suddenly didn't have to.
Because this amazing show I would have loved as a kid suddenly showed up and didn't act all coy or go "it's up to your imagination ;)," where the creators themselves are all utterly enthusiastic about the community they've created and how gay everything is, instead of cultivating that sense of trust with no intention of ever rewarding it or actively planning on sacrificing that trust For The Drama™.
And I mean, there are probably still gonna be things in my life that I will put the aforementioned effort into because I like a certain pairing or see some untapped potential that begs to be explored, but the point I'm getting at is that I never realized how much I was putting in while receiving nothing in return until She-ra showed up and gave me everything I wanted on a silver platter. And now I find myself looking back at all of these other pieces of media that I put so much into despite knowing it would never pan out, that I would never get back what I put into them, and I'm just out of enthusiasm for it. I'm looking at them with fresh eyes and seeing that my relationship with them (and their creators/corporate string pullers) was all give and no take. So even though no content creator should be forced to cater to a demographic if they don't want to (precisely because it ends in this insincere, fingers crossed behind the back bullshit)... Well it's kinda hard to go back to the desert when you finally found your oasis.

I'll kinda jump on the LoK/SPOP train - I LOVE LoK and Korra and Korrasami very very much and I'm very grateful for all the conversations they started and doors they opened to cartoons today. But after SPOP I'm kinda bitter Korrasami could have gotten the Catradora top notch treatment it got if it aired a few years later. Lucky me the fandom provides with awesome fanart and fanfic and the new comics are a delight! Sorry for rambling!

i feel very silly saying that that hand holding changed everything for me, but it did. it feels really silly considering how much has changed in such a short time. but the korrasami hand holding like ... blew the doors wide open, suddenly i could see through to the other side, and realized the kind of rep that was possible. it was sort of silly, because i was very very repressed and didnt know i was gay yet, but that meant like .... everything to me, for reasons that at the time i couldnt explain (literally everyone who knew me: “its bc ur gay” / me: *no thought head empty*)
i was one of those conspiracy theorists going oh my god theyre taking it off the air. theyre putting it online because theyre going to do korrasami. they cant show it on tv so theyre putting it online because its going to be gay. which in hindsight is ... pretty sad, huh? ^^’ but like ... i wasnt even that wrong. because even online, all they were allowed to show was a few moments of holding hands
so then watching she ra i was just ....... so emotional. because look how far we’ve come??? lok finale was only 5 1/2 years ago, and all we got was hand holding!! and in that time, so many people were so brave and so devoted and fought so hard ....... and we got steven universe. we got dragon prince. we got she ra
and that makes me really emotional, and, in some selfish ways, kind of upset! on the fandom side, god yeah korra and asami really did deserve better, huh? so grateful to the comics, so grateful to the fandom, but ... man we could have had it all
on the personal side ..... literally what would i have done if i’d had these shows as a kid? who would i have been if i had queer rep, wlw rep, lesbian rep on my tv when i was still in formative years, before i absorbed all that repression and guilt and shame. i dont try to deny it, my childhood was bad. it sucked. and i was mostly raised by tv. specifically, avatar the last airbender was an incredibly formative part of my childhood. how much earlier would i have figured myself out if i had a show like she ra when i was 10, like i had avatar? how much of a difference would that have made in my queer journey?
wow, this became incredibly long winded as i always do when talking about queer rep but ..... to sum. while im incredibly grateful for what korrasami did for childrens media, and even if im not actively talking about it, know that i think of it with incredible fondness and they are always in my heart ... like you i do wonder what we could have gotten if things were different. if queer rep was in a different place at the time, if lok was made just a few years later. we needed every single stepping stone we got, because without the work of lok, su, and other shows who were fighting for this rep, we wouldn’t have gotten catradora, and i understand that. but im also like. man. looking back, my girls deserved better. child luka deserved better. on the other hand. man, look how far we’ve come :’)
