i miss things.

It’s funny how as much as I love playing elves in MMOs (read: WoW) I’ll role a beast race character first thing in others such as Argonians/Khajiit in ESO, Charr in GW2, and Mi’qote in FF14 (ironic, considering how much I loathe the portrayal of catgirls), but I can’t bring myself to main a tauren because the anti-heroic/villainous elements they do have - read: non-Horde Grimtotem tauren - is insignificant next to the more heroic/lawful aesthetic that comprises them.
I think part of the reason is because, for someone that’s supposed to be their racial leader, Baine is...pretty much a non-character. I guess he can be forgiven for that one-dimensionality due to his age - and I think he can be considered young - but if you were to put him next to pre-Legion!Anduin he may as well be almost the same character, just he’s a cow-guy and not a human. Then again, even pre-Legion!Anduin has strokes of leaning into anti-heroic qualities a’la using Void magic on his allies in MoP, but he’s still mostly good.
Baine is such a non-sequitur that for all intents and purposes he’s Just There. And, like, okay, I don’t mind him being good but I do mind him not being fleshed out enough to make him stand on his own and apart from Anduin.
So, yeah, that’s my take on why I don’t roll tauren (except the one I do have, but he’s an alt and I just use him for farming mogs).

I feel like drake just keeps trying to do his nonchalant laughing it off hyperonline schtick that worked with meek mill (the only beef he ever won) and he doesn't realize he'd actually have to switch it up. I don't think his strategy or persona are why he beat meek mill, I think he beat meek mill because it's meek mill. did you win or did he lose, you know. kendrick got famous off what I would call a very magnetic and ghoulish intensity. like he's always taken on very heavy material and he specifically doesn't want to cover up the amount of intensity and effort and emotion on display. so that's what he's doing here, he's like "I'm the biggest hater" and "I think he should die" and shit he is ❌NOT❌ trying to look unbothered. so drake is still trying to, but he doesn't know how to balance the heaviness of the shit he's slinging with an actual funny affect. like "tryna strike a chord and it's probably a minoooooooor" and "WHAT IS IT? THE BRAIDS" is just objectively funny as hell. calling someone a pedophile on a dj mustard beat is funny. going to the restaurant kendrick name dropped when he was mocking your fake accent is....almost there, I feel like that's what I mean, it's the wrong type of funny. crushing the gkmc WOULD be funny if you were playing up the same level hater shit as kendrick. nonchalant people don't do that as a move though, it's just not working.
I feel like this is generally what people don't like about drake; resentful but dispassionate; sensitive but too insecure and stunted to put that into something, so he just cowers behind an unconvincing performance of what he thinks is a Real Cool Guy. and what he finds cool is widely read as corny and loserly, but that's it's own thing I guess. I get the impression everything gets to him but instead of doing boogie man shit he's trying to be the coolest senior at his highschool about it. and the hyperonline thing worked with meek mill because back then it was niche. like being able to play two different audiences -- hip hop hubs + the hip hop pages -- would've been seen as clever. but now everyones so sick of the internet and it's way more alluring to have some old fashioned celebrity, like kendrick is completely inaccessible which goes way further now than knowing memes. being online as an artist has become synonymous with mediocrity. unrelated but this is the main thing holding doja cat back, people think it's her personality but it's really that she's rapping about twitter. but no one cares about that -- the thing is I hear his diss tracks, and I've heard every kendrick album minus the last like hundreds of times, so I'm always thinking.....there is actually stuff you could go at. kendrick's complexes are not invisible you know, maybe find a ghostwriter who's heard his music. but drake just keeps projecting instead, he's never actually touching down on kendrick's deal. "gotta b sharp d major" WHAT are you talking about? there's no way all you know about him is that he's short and a hotep. meanwhile if you so much as look at a picture of drake you know his entire deal it's eeking out of him so strong. he emanates a very I-remember-every-sideways-thing-said-to-me-in-seventh-grade energy, he's got that I-need-to-relive-my-prom-night-until-it's-perfect patina. I don't know, it just seems like he's trying to do something that worked* one time ten years ago

I'm not gonna be in the Call Of Duty fandom anymore, well, the MW fandom. at least not fully, and I will explain, but first and foremost I want to clarify: I'm NOT leaving tumblr entirely & I'm NOT gonna back down either from my previous statements. So, allow me to begin as to why I'm making this decision.
The rape, incest, pedo and animal abuse pornography
Quite frankly, as someone who has been through rape and child sexual abuse, I find it ABHORRENT that anyone would ever look at such abuses and decide to fetishise, romanticise and glorify these things. I do not care nor want to know your "justifications" because frankly there aren't any. As a survivor, I am aware that the fandom is malicious and nasty towards people like me; I am aware that you people willingly and HAPPILY engage with such harmful, disgusting material. Quite honestly, I could not name a space more dedicated to the harassment, malicious treatment and utterly disgusting behaviour towards these topics and the people who openly disagree with them.
The racism
Before you tell me "Call Of Duty fans have always been racist", I am aware of that. But I'm talking specifically about the niche fandom (because it is niche). The fandom treats Black and Brown characters utterly abhorrently; from turning Gaz into a stereotype through to fetishising Farah and everything in between, the fandom's racism is progressively getting WORSE - and then x reader writers (who are predominantly white) only add to that by purposefully and willfully excluding Black and Brown people from fandom altogether. The racism within this space makes it clear that anybody who is NOT white is NOT welcome, and frankly, I do not wish to be associated with such disgusting people. To treat Black people as tokens, to purposefully KICK people of colour out of fandom - it's disgraceful and I hope that everybody is ashamed of themselves.
The ableism and saneism
The Call Of Duty fandom is NOT a safe place for anyone who has a psychotic, schizospec, dissociative or personality disorder. Plain and simple. From the colloquial usage of mental health terms such as "delusional", through to the "jokes" which are made to trigger people with such disorders (e.g. "in your walls"), and to the casual usage of anti-psychotic slurs like "psycho" and "schizo", it's obvious to anyone with just one quick look that this fandom sees people with such disorders as either their punching bags, their "memes" or worse: not human at all. And this also translates to fanworks, as quite honestly, I'm tired of seeing the same treatment directed towards characters like Nikto, because it shows that you people do not care about us at all. We aren't human to you, and we never will be. We are not even worth CONSIDERING when it comes to offensive language - it's degrading, it's dehumanising and it's exhausting to have to constantly walk away from fanworks that are so obviously made with malicious intent.
The homophobia
I am a bisexual/pansexual/omnisexual/queer/whatever you wanna call it man, and the amount of homophobia in the Call Of Duty fandom is disgusting. No, bisexual men AREN'T your "uwu bby boy so soft such a bottom bitch!!". You perpetuating homophobic stereotypes for the sake of a ship is utterly and completely and truly vile. How dare you claim to support LGBTQIA+/queer people when you KNOWINGLY perpetuate these stereotypes? When you KNOWINGLY engage in homophobic behaviour. You are scum.
The antisemitism and islamophobia
This is a touchy subject for non-religious folk, but I really wish you lot would all leave religious people alone. It takes you two seconds to look up what Muslims and Jews believe in and act accordingly. It takes you two seconds to NOT open your mouth when Muslims and Jews talk about their headcanons of characters being religious - because what gives you the right? Why do you feel so comfortable to shut down religious people's headcanons of characters? "Oh, he can't be Jewish because he's English", English Jews exist. "Oh, he can't be Muslim because he's Scottish", Scottish Muslims exist. These people exist in real life, and you saying that a character CANNOT be a Muslim or a Jew because of where they come from is little more than antisemitism and Islamophobia. Do better.
The apathy
When I say "the apathy", I mean exactly that. It is exhausting having to call out these horrid things time and time again and then see people WILLINGLY ignoring blatant bigotry by brushing it off and saying "I don't want to get involved in drama", as if somebody being a bigot is akin to a quarrel between two friends, or a disagreement between two people. If you aren't willing to address genuine harm ONLINE, then I'm sorry, but I doubt you would do anything OFFLINE either. If you're boiling things that actually harm people down to "drama", then I'm sorry, but you can't expect to be considered a safe person for people to be open with and to be honest with when it comes to their mental health or to their triggers. It's that simple. Your apathy towards your fellow man is blatant, and I cannot in good conscience continue to rub shoulders with such people.
Going forward
I'm not going to be engaging with MOST of the content within the Call Of Duty fandom - whether that's edits, fanfic, fanart, etc. I'm not. I've got a few mutuals who I've decided I WILL continue reading from or looking at their art or whatever, but for the most part, I'm not going to be active within the Call Of Duty fandom. I will continue writing for SOME of the characters, but my list of who I write for will be drastically reduced to just a few select characters. If somebody asks me "hey, is X thing saneist?" then of course I'll answer. If somebody points out to me that I took a request from someone who follows a rape pornographer, then I will delete that request and that fanfic entirely. I will still be happy to talk about the characters & games, but it will only be WHEN ASKED, and I will continue to use my DNI (although I'm going to change it a little so that the rape porn viewers/readers know I don't want them near me).
Of course, if anyone requires further clarification on anything I said, I'll be happy to answer and explain as best as I can! And if anyone feels emboldened by this post to come forward and share their own experiences with such things, then I will happily read through that, too! This post is 100% okay to reblog, and if anyone wishes to reblog it and go "This is also why I left the fandom", then I will happily hear you out. What I will NOT hear out, however, is any justification or defence of any of the harmful behaviours I have mentioned - I do not wish to hear it. Pack it in, and take it to 4Chan where you belong.

Pop Culture References in Writing
This is not an advice post as much as an opinion + opening to discussion. I’m really curious what you guys think about this!
Every now and then I come across a book with lots of pop culture references. I think the last I read was “One Last Stop” by Casey McQuiston.
I intentionally don’t include any pop culture references in my writing—including more niche or time-specific slang, and I have a few reasons:
I feel pandered to when I read it. I haven’t yet read pop culture references (or even watched it in media) that didn’t immediately take me out of the story. When it’s done poorly, it’s—dare I say cringe in our year 2024? It’s a bit hard to watch, let’s say.
Even when it’s done well, I imagine the author is like that man holding a skateboard, “how do you do, fellow kids?” It never lands genuinely for me.
It adds a time limit on the work. Memes, jokes, and slang of the cultural moment are just that—of the moment. I find things die far too quickly so by the time I’m consuming the media the reference is old or dead completely. Or, at the very best, I’ve heard/seen it so much that I’m tired of it.
Last reason, I consume fiction to be somewhat out of my own world. The inclusion of pop culture references takes me right back to reality and breaks the escapism and immersion of the story. It’s the same as when media references COVID or something similar—I want to be in a fictionalized world, I’d like to escape this one for a little while.
(as an aside, I am totally fine with these references in children's media, because I assume children find it really funny and cool that their interests are in their media. I just watched a Bluey episode (don't make fun of me) where the girls teach their grandparents how to floss (as in the dance) and while I as an adult didn't enjoy it personally, I also know it wasn't written for me, and I'm sure the kids that watched it loved it.)

Here's my Sevika request again. Hopefully it won't get eaten this time 😅
Modern AU here? Sevika is a streamer on a streaming platform who primarily plays fighting games. And she is VERY GOOD. Good enough to compete in tournaments, which she goes to frequently, and does pretty well.
Reader has been friends with Sevika for a while, and is a mod in her stream. But there is some subtle tension between them. They've flirted a little here and there and even sent pics back and forth to each other over time, both friendly and flirtatious. Aaaand one tournament weekend they finally meet in person and all that tension comes to a head after they hang out and go back to someone's hotel room 👀

you become obsessed with a niche, ancient video game, that practically nobody's heard about before. sevika's the only streamer you can find who plays it. it's love at first sight.
sevika's incredible at everything she plays, she rarely takes more than two tries to beat a level. she's just one of those people who can pick up a video game and master it in one go.
sevika knows your username, she's seen your selfie-- compressed into the little icon by your name, but that's as much as she knows about you besides the fact that you're one of her favorite, funniest, loyalest subscribers.
at least at first.
about a year into you watching her, sevika starts getting really popular, out of nowhere. she hesitantly reaches out to you, dm'ing you with a quick message, asking if you'd consider being a moderator for her. you agree happily.
sometimes you guys send each other memes. you like taking ugly screencaps of her mid-word or bite of food and sending them to her later, you like the frustrated, pissed off responses it gets you.
she likes casually flirting with you-- which always makes you swoon a bit.
that's about as far as you assume the relationship will ever go.
until you bump into sevika at a gaming convention.
she seems to notice you staring. of course, she doesn't know you're you, but she assumes you're a fan. she approaches with an easy smile that makes your knees a little weak, and she reaches a hand out to introduce herself.
you quickly introduce yourself, and watch in fascination as sevika lights up, leans in to hug you, then pulls away at the last minute. she chuckles awkwardly.
"s-sorry, i just... i've never seen you before. you're..." she trails off. you raise an eyebrow at her, and giggle when she ducks her head in embarrassment.
"i'm what?"
"you're my favorite moderator." she says, shrugging. you giggle.
"you're my favorite streamer."
"are you here competing?" she asks. you laugh.
"me? no. just watching. as always." you tease. sevika grins.
"well. i'm glad you're here. i always do better when i know i've got someone good watching." she says, winking.
sevika wins the tournament. you'd just come to watch for a while, but upon realizing sevika was competing, you stayed to watch the entire thing.
she catches you afterward, giggling and grinning as she runs over to you.
"hey!" she calls. you smile as she approaches.
"hey big winner." you tease. sevika grins.
"so, do you live around here?" she asks. you nod, and sevika's smile grows. "me too." she says, giggling. you raise an eyebrow.
"really?" you ask. "what're the odds?" you ask. sevika bites her lip.
"do you want to maybe like... get drinks or something?" she asks nervously. it's strange to see her fiddling with her hands instead of cool and confident and holding a controller.
"i'd love that." you say. sevika grins, her hands clenching at her side in excitement. you smile and grab one of her fists, and sevika's smile only grows wider.

AITA for saying that my boyfriend would deserve it if he died in the Titan submersible implosion?
I figure it's far enough out from the argument itself now that I can post this. I (27M) and my boyfriend (29M) come from very different backgrounds.
He grew up in a wealthy family. His family isn't, like, billionaire rich--his father is a semi-prestigious actor--but they can, for example, eat at michelin star restaurants on a regular basis, pay for all their kid's ivy league educations, drop thousands of dollars on an impromptu trip to Europe for no reason, and so on and so forth. Which, like, good for them! Genuinely, I'm glad my partner and his family did not struggle with money growing up.
I, on the other hand, grew up in poverty. I didn't have any formal schooling until I got my GED and enrolled in college. I grew up food insecure, living in a very poor area, and frequently had periods of time where my family could not afford to pay our bills. I was extremely lucky to be able to go to college, and I only managed to pay for it due to spending basically all of my free time either working or applying for every niche scholarship I could find. Even now, several years into my career, I pretty much live off of rice and lentils so I can pay rent.
All this to say: Neither of us would consider ourselves pro-corporation or billionaire, but my boyfriend is sometimes more sympathetic to wealthier individuals due to his background. We do not currently live together, which is not because of the aforementioned, but is relevant.
A while back, my boyfriend's grandfather came to stay with his parents. His grandfather was, at the time, not feeling well--coughing, sneezing, the works. He pretty obviously had COVID. Nevertheless, my boyfriend took the 4 hour drive to spend time with him, and wouldn't you know it, he got sick. He stayed at his parents house until he got better. I decided not to make the drive to see my boyfriend, and stayed at my apartment. This is because I am immunocompromised and would prefer not to. Y'know. Die.
While my boyfriend was out, the whole debacle with the Titan submersible occurred, which I kept an eye on and made some memes about. A couple days after they found the wreckage, my boyfriend became coherent enough to have a phone conversation. While talking to him, I told him the story of what happened, the details about the submarine, the $250k ticket price, and so on.
He seemed indifferent until I brought up the 19 year old on board. He then seemed very upset, especially when he found out the kid didn't want to go in the first place. I tried to assure him that most of the memes were not about the kid, but he was having none of it. He seemed very sad, and said something along the lines of "I hope I don't go out like that."
I was confused. I didn't think his parents were so rich they would be able to afford that, but I figured it was just a hypothetical. My boyfriend has a big fear of death, and I often need to reassure him about things like this. "Well," I replied, "If you're worried about that, I can assure you that's an easy death to avoid. Just don't do dumb shit like that."
He then got VERY upset. "What do you mean??? Are you saying I'd deserve to die like that???"
Me: "I mean, that's not what I was saying? But you're not 19, you're almost 30, and you're not financially dependent on your parents. Also, your parents aren't nearly that rich, and even if they were, I know them, and they are not nearly that stupid. So, at that point, to get into that situation, you would need to personally drop $250k on a ticket, then weld yourself inside of an experimental deep sea submarine controlled via text message and an xbox controller. Like, there are several steps you personally could have Not taken to avoid being in this situation, including simply not deciding to be on an underwater death trap. So, yeah, that'd be on your head."
He then got even MORE upset, and started yelling about how insensitive I was being. After some back and forth, I got it out of him that he had been speaking metaphorically--that, from his perspective, I was saying that I thought he deserved to die of COVID, because he had made the choice to spend time with his grandfather despite knowing he had COVID.
I assured him that no, that was not what I was saying in the slightest, and he calmed down, but I was still upset. He had been yelling at me, after all, and it legitimately didn't occur to me that he was speaking metaphorically, while I was still on the very literal experimental submarine.
I asked one of my friends/his other partner (30M) about it after it happened, and he laughed and said that my boyfriend was being ridiculous. It's been several months at this point, it was a silly argument, I'm not going to bring it up again (because that would be weird) and I'm sure he's forgotten all about it. That said, if I'm being honest, I still feel kind of indignant that he immediately assumed I was secretly hoping he was going to die in a submarine. Am I being insane here?

Now I'm curious. What sort of art do you mean by "cynically crafted, redundant artwork?" This isn't said as judgment, or a gotcha, by the way. I have my own dislikes, I wonder how we match up in the sort of stuff we're bored by.

Let’s see. My relationship to art is very me-focused. I got into art because I saw it as a way to express myself and communicate, especially back when normal socializing was confusing and hard. It’s how I say “I’m here, I’m me, my art is loud as fuck because there’s a theater kid trapped inside my body, deal with it”.
The great thing about being around artists, to me, is to see what THEY have to say about THEMSELVES through art. This is what made early webcomics so delicious. One person’s id on paper.
More and more, I’ve run into people who overtly use their art to please others, to build a following or otherwise Make Number Go Up, to sell products, etc. All of these kinds of artists are interesting enough in moderation, but now it feels like almost everyone acts like this. We always knew that throwing fandom a bone every once in awhile helped people find your more passionate work, but now even guilty pleasure art seems to have been standardized, categorized, and otherwise flattened out. Everything is about consuming or being consumed. I see very little playing just to PLAY. Very little drawing 100% for yourself and sharing only in case one person appreciates it. It’s harder than ever to escape the feeling that you have to perform for somebody. Be accessible, #relatable, and the accepted degree of grimy at all times. Is that really what you came to this world to do? I know for a fact that I came here to talk shit.
So to me, cynical art is art that pays too much attention to how to catch eyes and blow up. I’ve felt the “oh no this will be too niche and narrative for anyone to like!” self-limiting instinct before, and it feels like hell, so I never want to encourage it. Usually I do this by avoiding fandom in general, which works out because media products made by paid teams are not very interesting to me anyway. The other reason it works is where “redundant” comes in— I don’t need to keep seeing the same portrait of a cartoon character standing still and possibly in a funny t-shirt or reciting lines from a meme. I want to see YOU. Not the video games and TV shows you watch!! Beautiful wriggling horrible horny weird idiosyncratic Y O U

Hi! I wrote a whole 9-10k one-shot about the Reader/"You" getting yeeted into Genshin Impact, and becoming an Eldritch God (lmao this is so niche)
But I don't feel confident posting it as is yet, and wanted to know if anyone was feeling up to beta reading it?

any grammar/spelling,
if things make sense/parts that you got lost in,

Secrets of the Machine (Bendysplaining)
(Full disclosure: both of the computers I have access to WILL NOT TRIGGER THE LIGHTNING CUTSCENE therefore making B:SOTM unplayable for me! Watched a couple walkthroughs to get the gist of things. I found ONE easter egg on my own lol.)
Secrets of the Machine is so out of place to me, seeming almost unpolished. I'll give it a fair shake and go over the pros and cons, but if you want a short Bendy game to play, PLEASE play Boris and the Dark Survival, not this.
Pros:
This very important bird that makes me well up inside with a positive emotion.
Ragtime Guffie. Cute character that I feel has a charm similar to the original Bendy cast. I wouldn't have been surprised to see this guy walking around in BATIM back in the day.

My personal favorite, this random ass arrow outside that you can follow into the darkness for about a minute until you're spat back out by the entrance arch (useless):
And last but not least, the inclusion of Gaskette and an insanely niche nod to Nightmare Run?
FIrst off, Gaskette looks killer (pun intended):
And secondly, there are at least a couple hands around the map that open and close when you click them in a very similar fashion to a hand that could be found on the menu of Nightmare Run. I was actually excited about this! (Why they didn't they just go full ham with the Nightmare Run characters for this game?)
Cons:
The first glaring issue I have is *checks watch* the FOUR Bendy advertisements thrown into the game??? What???
I'm not mad about hyping people up, but it is............LAZY?? What was the point of this? These ALL could've been Tweets!!
In fact, Lone Wolf's Announcement nearly WAS a Tweet!!
I would feel differently if the presentation was better, but you literally throw a can at some flippable....plates(?) around a screen at random and get still images. I understand that this game is meant to be small like BATDS, but BATDS was more polished, more fun, and didn't throw four adverts in as gameplay/easter eggs.
This is also gives me a Bad Feeling because if you're willing to make your smaller content into a glorified advertisement, what are you going to do with your mainline games? How are you going to treat your content? Are you going to let things cook or serve it to us raw?
ALSO...
Riley.
Riley's story itself is fine. Not amazing, not awful. Riley's parents die in a car accident when she's six. She starts drawing disturbing content, and the school counselor catches wind of this and brings it up to her guardian. Riley goes to work for JDS at the same age as Buddy (17), and is subsequently fired for drawing more disturbing material pertaining to the accident.
While it sounds cliché, the way it was presented in-game was fine. There are obviously things that could be improved, but the point here isn't the story itself.
Let me ask the audience of this post a question.
Where the hell is Lacie Benton?
Or, more broadly, why aren't M+M fleshing out characters that have been with us since *checks watch* 2017?
I'm struggling not to start doing the Macarena, because adding new characters and slowly abandoning the old ones works in direct contrast with "caring about the lore", AKA what this franchise was built on, and it's something M+M like to bring up. When you remove that backbone, everything else falls apart. When you neglect the old characters, you're neglecting the heart of the franchise.
Riley having her story isolated to one game seems to be a blessing in disguise, I'll admit. However, this is ALL just BATIM: Red Flags. Disappointed, but not surprised. Scared for the future of this franchise, but trying to stay optimistic.

it goes the same for you too — while it takes a lot for him to get vulnerable, when he builds that trust with you, you cherish it by gaining the tools needed to support him

“black eye” is the proof i needed for my argument that vernon is in his angsty / emo / pop punk phase
so he’s totally the bestie who will jam out to pop punk with you (if you’re into it! i’m very into it and i would give everything i have to listen to neck deep with vernon like i'm being so serious rn)
in fact, he is the bestie who will jam out with you to your favorite music any time anywhere
he LOVES collaborative playlists that you two make together
and yes these sometimes become super niche and specific
but whether you’re listening to your “top shower songs” playlist or your “standing in the back corner of a gas station deciding on which drink to buy so you can use their bathroom” playlist, this is one of vernon’s best ways to appreciate and celebrate your friendship
he thinks the best way to know each other is through sharing music and all the other things you like/enjoy, and that’s how you learned a lot about each other in the beginning of your friendship

What's boring you about the fandom? Sorry to hear you're struggling with that at the moment.
Just wanted to say though, it is normal to go through stages of fixation and ambivalence, especially if it feels like you might have plumbed the most exciting depths of your preferred niche. (I have felt like that so many times in other fandoms lol...) Maybe it's worth exploring other parts of the fandom, you might find something that ignites your passion again. Alternatively, if you need a break or feel the need to branch out, do it. The fandom will still be here when you feel like engaging again.
(Also, if you feel like it sometime, please tell us more about your minis and joytoy figs. Are they named? Do they have backstories?)
I'm not bored. I'm just having a severe "old man yells at cloud"-moment, like I do semi-regularly. 😉
When I came to the Tumblr-branch of Warhammer-fandom it felt so very exciting - artists and writers regularly got 80 to over 100 notes in a few days on their texts and pics (not just memes and/or shitposts, mind you! The real stuff!) - and not just likes, a lot of reblogs, comments and so much discussion! So many HC were developed here for everybody to see and to participate.
But this all changed. No fire nation, though.
I'm getting a bit tired of saying it over and over myself, but in my opinion it still is true: Discord is slowly killing fandom-permanence. Discord isn't good for conserving things. Ideas vanish. Pics get consumed like fast food and digested just as fast, leaving no nutritional value for viewer or artist. Thoughts get lost, because they wander down the chat-drain and vanish into nothing. HCs get no engagement, fade and die.
The slow, ugly decay of Twitter didn't help. A lot of new people not getting how Tumblr is supposed to be played and take the easy way out to Discord, too.
A Tumblr-blog is a very intimate showcase of a person's journey as a fan. It's like a geological slice of their interests and thoughts. I love that. I want to keep that. I want to get to know other fans. And not the shallow, fleeting way of Discord.
Yeah, as I said - old man yells at totally uncaring cloud. I can't stop time. I have to adapt or remain behind.
And the other thing is my "ceterum censeo" of being bitter about people just paying attention to Primarch-content and don't care about the guys from second row who are in my opinion so much more interesting and colourful. And if they get the spotlight it's just some meme-shit or being waifu'd to hell and back.
I love being silly about characters I like. I love making up shitty sidestories, silly AUs and other absolutely hilarious OOC-stuff. But if that's all that remains from a character, that's just sad.
I need way more Credible Hulks who love quoting the books as much as I do, around me!
But anyways, I'll come around.
That I had quite a few not so very good books this year didn't help either. I need both the Eidolon- and the Xantine-book to be good, next year! And St. Martin better NOT writing any shit about Lucius attacking Fenris (I mean, WTF, St. Martin! That short story was the worst you ever wrote, man!).

I just had a really weird experience with a dating app and I don't know what's real anymore.
I matched with a cute girl earlier today, and we spent a couple hours talking about our shared interests in podcasts and history and weird niche topics nobody else cares about. It was nice, and I asked her if she wanted to get lunch sometime this week. She said she'd like that, but then immediately changed the subject to talk about her job instead of scheduling the date. I mean, that's not TOO weird, I figure she must have wanted to say no but didn't want to hurt my feelings. Whatever. No big deal. We keep talking.
She mentioned that she works as a medical scribe at a doctor's office, and I said that that sounds like a wizard's apprentice. She said that medicine is the intersection between science and magic. I replied with a throwaway joke that chemistry is just alchemy with a little flair, and then shit went off the rails because she sent me a link to a pornhub video titled "We came at the same Time - Sensual Side Fuck" and said "me when someone tells me they're an alchemist."
A cute girl sends me a literal porn link after dodging the question of whether she wanted to go on a date, so I'm confused as hell. I don't know if this is her way of flirting or what, so I replied "I'd be down to practice some alchemy if you're not busy." I regretted saying it immediately because I never talk to anyone like that, I was just blind sided by the porn and thought maybe she would think it was funny. Well, after a few minutes she says "did you just ask to fuck me?"
Okay, I'm going down in flames, I crossed a line, that alchemy "joke" was inappropriate and creepy and she's clearly not into it and she's probably gonna unmatch me and block me and report me or something. I'm still confused over the direction the conversation is going, but I decide it'd be better if I apologize and go on the defensive instead of doubling down like a jackass. I tell her "no, not really," I'm not soliciting a stranger for sex, I was just yes-anding. She sent a porn link. What was I supposed to say? How was I supposed to respond?
Another few minutes pass. I was 100% sure that when I reopened the app she would be gone, but no, she finally replied "I was hoping you were..."
What kind of mind game is this? Is she just looking for a hookup? Her profile specifically says she's not! I have no idea what's going on.
"Did you just ask to fuck me?" My honest answer would have been "yes, isn't that what you wanted?" but the thought of saying that to somebody makes me feel like a douchebag. Her tone with that question didn't sound flirty, it sounded accusatory, like she was outraged I had the audacity to ask for sex so soon. My social anxiety is going through the roof. Whoops, turns out she actually WAS flirting and DID want to have sex, and I've managed to waffle it and sound like an asshole no matter what I say. Damned if I do, damned if I don't.
From my perspective:
Her: *posts meme about sex* (it's just a meme, nothing more. Don't read into it)
Me: *flirty memey response* (could go either way; I'm not outright saying I want to have sex with her, I'm just matching her energy. She memes about sex, I reply in kind because I thought it would be weirder go ignore it)
Her: oh my god, did you really just say that? Did you really think I wanted to have sex with you?
Me: I'm sorry, I overstepped
Her: mind games, dumbass! You don't know what I want, motherfucker!"
From her perspective:
Her: our conversation is going well, let me drop a big hint that I want to hook up
Me: picks up on the hint
Her: really?
Me: NO!
Her: oh... okay... nevermind...
So then I take a step back and try to see if there's any way whatsoever to salvage this dumpster fire of a conversation. I admit that I'm confused and ask her point blank if she wanted to have sex. I legitimately don't know if she was making a move or not, and I need her to know that I'm not the kind of guy who asks for sex as an opening move but I'm not opposed to it if she's the one bringing it up. There's no way to fix this. I failed at this interaction. I need to cut my losses, but somehow we keep talking.
She says, quote "I like making art and love. Sometimes at the same time, ya know?"
I say "do you want to make love?"
She says "we probably should."
I ask her if she'd like to get something to eat first, as was my initial date plan before the porn thing. Her response confused me even more. "I can't right now. I'm exhausted from traveling all weekend. I haven't eaten and feel like I'm gonna pass out." That reply doesn't make sense. It's Wednesday and she says she's too hungry to get dinner. That's when I noticed that her previous message ended with a period.
"We probably should," period. I scrolled back up through our conversation and realized that EVERY message she sent me ended with a period. Every single one! Oh, and some of them weren't even direct responses to anything I said, so now I'm 1000% convinced that she's a bot. I got tricked into talking for three hours with a bot, and I derailed the scam by rolling a nat 1 critical fail when it tried to sext me.
I ask "her" point blank when she wants to meet up, and it said "I need to eat first. Make food, not war, lol. Where are your top places to grab food?"
Bot. Almost certainly a bot.
My final reply, in the extraordinarily small off chance that she's not a bot, was to say it depends on my mood, before losting three or four of my go-to places.
"She" didn't unmatch, but she ghosted me. No reply.
Bot. Absolutely a bot. No doubt about it.
TLDR, I got catfished by a bot!

And as for your question, there's a couple of ways I could answer this. There are probably thousands of no-name liners that no one's really ever heard of, so the answer is probably one of those, but I wouldn't have any way to know. Instead, let's have some fun with more of the "popular" choices.
Number one would be the SS Johan Van Oldenbarnevelt. She's become something of a meme is this niche little boat community for having a mouthful of a name and a relatively unpleasant exterior. Her superstructure is much too tall, her funnels are too short and too far back, and her hull has comparatively little freeboard (distance between the water and the bottom of the superstructure). Later in her life, she was refit as a cruise ship, and she looked surprisingly better.
As you can see, they made her funnels taller, and the lack of freeboard is much less noticeable while painted white.
As for my second choice, this one is extremely controversial.
I'm not a fan of the Normandie, and one of those reasons is her exterior. My two big things are the funnels and the shape of the bow. The funnels are too big. I think if they were shorter OR thinner, they would have looked much better. The MV Georgic was able to pull off the short funnels surprisingly well, and here's a pic for reference.
Now, my second point, her bow. I think this picture says it all.
It just looks so ugly to me. I think if the white part had continued all the way forward instead of like, swooping down and stopping, she would have looked fine. I think without the issues with her funnels, and without the weird bow shape, she'd be one of my favorites (at least externally).
Before this ends, I should admit some bias. In the Ocean Liner community, there is a Neverending Twilight esque battle between Normandie fans and Queen Mary fans. This is because the two ships traded the speed record back and forth several times, and were both being regularly being refit to be bigger than the other. I don't think competition between liners has existed like this before or since. Personally, I'm team Queen Mary, which I'd rather dedicate a separate post to, because there's a lot to go over. So, with all that being said, I MAY have a slight bias against the Normandie. With that being said, I'm still just not a fan of the way she looks.
