explaining f1: drs
little warning on this one, i am not an engineer or physicist or anything professionally related to f1, so this is my completely novice explanation based on my own research. it’s not supposed to be super technical, but if anything is way off please let me know!
drag reduction system
f1 cars pump out huge plumes of disturbed air in their wake, making it inherently difficult for driver behind to get into a position to make a pass.
introduced in 2011 as a way to increase overtaking, drs is a device fixed to the upper element of the rear wing of the car. usage has varied, but the current regulations allow drivers to activate the system in designated zones during the race.
when in these zones, drivers can lift the rear wing flap to reduce drag, increasing their top speed.
usage
drs can only be activated if a driver follows a rival through the preceding detection zone with a margin of less than one second.
drivers can activate drs one lap after the race begins. during yellow flags, a virtual safety car or a full safety car, use of the system is prohibited (read more about safety cars here), as well as in red flags.
drs is activated by pressing a button on the steering wheel, but this is only possible when the driver breaks a detection zone within one second of the previous car.
there is no limit on how often drivers can use this, soap long as they have met the requirements, they could use it in every zone of every lap.
on average, drs increases the top speed of the car by about 6 or 7 mph.
particularly in the midfield, a common phenomenon in races is what is known as a 'drs train'. this is a sequence of cars all within drs range of one another, which effectively negates the advantages of the system and can hinder overtaking.

Look, I love a good media theory as much as the next guy, but so many of them, especially theories for kids shows, are lowkey ableist.
“Dark things you never knew about Fairly OddParents! Number one: Timmy is schizophrenic!”
“Dark fact: Owl from Winnie the Pooh has NPD!!”
“Scary theory says that Sandy from SpongeBob has Borderline Personality Disorder!”
Like I’m sorry if you maybe overlooked the implications of what you were saying, but are you implying that disorders, disabilities and divergences are “scary” and “dark?” Because I’m not sure that’s a hill you want to die on.

One of my favorite horror tropes, possibly of all time, is “it’s the whole town.” Like, ok, you never consider that your arrival (no gps signal, a popped tire, etc.) was planned. But some smiles are a little too friendly. Holes in the story go conveniently overlooked. Don’t look too closely at the walls. You have more questions than answers and, when you finally turn around, your new friend has fashioned a noose. You call for help, but the medic arrives with a gun. That sinking, icy realization. The butcher, the baker, the mail carrier. The safe-house was built with locks on the outside. The firefighter, the schoolteacher, the neighbor. When “our community” means you are outnumbered. Hunting you takes a village.

working on something lowkey and chill for llb currently and thought i’d share a lil snippet…. maybe someone will beat me to the fandom tag (please. i beg.)
It’s a relatively big thing to say for the moment. Things are the same, and they’re not. Jackie still takes the yoke out of her eggs, and they have blood on their hands. Lou still feels the indescribable weight of Jackie’s pulse on her body, and there’s more blood on their hands. Hours of scrubbing, a curious Happy Meal sniffing at the metallic odor, another rug as a makeshift coffin — and for what? Beth, yes, and her siblings. And then there’s a voice in the smallest parts of her body spelling out in a rumble, J-A-C-K-I-E.
pleaaaseeee share your thoughts with me on this movie i need little grains of characterization to be planted 🍻

What happened with the Cat of The Year poll deeply saddens me. Reall peoples lives been affected for simply voicing their opinions on silly cat poll, and that should not have happened. As a Jellie supporter I’m glad she won, but I don’t feel great about it. Maybe next time let’s not get so serious and just have FRIENDLY debates, yeah?
