I can't post this anywhere else because it hasn't arrived at its destination yet, but I finished the baby/lap quilt for my buddy I play D&D with!
Heavy on the flowers and bees because he was playing a warforged druid with a beehive in his chest when we started 🐝

It’s time for some quilt posting!
I visited my family in Alberta last week and was determined to spend some quality time not sweating my ass about my inbox. (Being on satellite internet helped a lot.) And come hell or high water I was going to finish something.
Tumblr media
I set out to finish handquilting the giant beast I have— thinking I would just post up on the back porch and stare at the ground squirrels while working— but that was not in the cards. Because my mother has been learning to quilt as well.
You see, my mom has been learning quilting in fits and starts over the years. A table runner here, a rag quilt there, but not really a focused effort beyond making someone a gift or destashing the mountain of polar fleece she has on hand from making us kids clothes in the nineties and early aughts.
It wasn’t until my severely burnt out and depressed self came home for Christmas this past year and asked her to teach me to quilt that she also decided to learn conventional piecing quilting. She wasn’t able to teach me, but she shared her craftsy login with me and we stared down a bunch of YouTube videos together. She also drove me through the icy Alberta freeze to the quilt shop in Canmore and gave me two sizeable lengths of fabric she’d taken in from my Oma to bind and back the Frankie and Momo quilt I made in January.
Since then, she’s been motoring along on quilting projects and gifts at the rate that could only be maintained by a retiree determined to destash her, my grandmother and my oma’s lifetimes of built up fabrics. My mom, also being one of the rare people in this world with an honest-to-god pension, learns any new hobby by buying gadgets and toys for the hobby.
This is all to say: My mom has an accuquilt. This is a little crank power fabric die-cutting machine that is very very cool. And after using it to zoom through the cutting for a little sawtooth star block I got it in my head that I could probably do a simple start-to-finish quilt while I was visiting. (I wanted to play with the toy more)
Tumblr media
(Yes I know that this is very silly and wiggly, but I was testing things and goofing around so be nice)
So it was off to that Canmore quilt shop again, in much nicer weather. And I dug out some coordinating colours from their sale section for blocks, backing and binding for less than thirty bucks. I then fed all the twoonie priced fat quarters through the diecutter and wound up with more than sixty charm squares in about half an hour.
Tumblr media
That’s pretty fast— all my cutting at home happens on a coffee table and wrecks my back. She’s also got one of those fancy Stripology rulers so I was able to cut my entire binding in literal seconds. It’s witchcraft.
Put together a simple repeating layout and we were off to the races!
Tumblr media
My mother also has a fancy new sewing machine with a start-stop button, thread cutter and more feed dogs than god. So I was able to zip through assembly WAY faster than on my ancient hand-me-down brother machine from the eighties. (Who I still love)
Tumblr media
The whole quilt top was together before I knew it, and I’m getting less and less clumsy with my corners every time I do this so I was really happy. Used a Hera marker to make guides for the quilting, which surprised me by how well it held up to handling. I can probably recreate the effect with a clean butter knife at home!
Quilted the whole thing in rush and sewed the binding on in the car on our way to and from dinner. I somehow managed to not get carsick doing it too, it’s astounding. Im really happy with the results even though it’s a very simple design. This is the fastest I’ve done a whole little blanket like this and I’m glad I got so lucky with the sale fabrics available.
(Lucy also gave her approval once we got home yesterday, even though she wasn’t there to supervise.)

Can I ask about your quilting method? For i want to get into quilting, and thus habe done a little research on that, and nothing I've deen reslly matches uo to your designs. Your work is really the sort of thing I want to emulate, and I think I understand how it is that you have your quilt tops made, but the attachment, the batting, the backs, those really dont look like anything ive been able to find in my research (as in, the eay I see it, it looks like you sew batting top and backing together at the edges, but that cant be it cause thats not what quilting looks like and im confused) and thus I figured (and I really dont mean to come of as rude or judgemental of your work, im just new and curious) id just ask: how do you make your quilts?
Hi! You don't come across as rude or judgemental, don't worry. When quilting, first I piece the quilt top, which means sewing all the pieces together until it makes the finished design of the quilt top. Sometimes I also have to piece the quilt backing, to make a single piece of fabric big enough. Next, I assemble the quilt sandwich. I rarely show photos of this step or the next, because they are kinda hard to photograph, which might be part of the confusion? The quilt sandwich is the backing fabric, laid right side down, the batting, and then the quilt top laid right side up. I pin the layers of the sandwich in place, take them to my sewing machine, and usually use a quilting method called "stitch the ditch". Stitching the ditch means following the lines of seams on the quilt top, which makes the quilting almost invisible on the quilt top. It's still visible on the quilt back, but I pick thread colors that blend into the quilt back as much as possible. The quilting can be an accent to the pattern of the quilt, but I do all my quilting on my sewing machine, which is small and difficult to use for any quilting more complicated than straight lines of squiggles, so mine is usually pretty easy not to see. It is still there! I still quilt the whole quilt The bit you see at the edges is where I sew the binding down. You can handsew the binding to make the stitches less visible (or not visible at all), but by the time I reach the binding step I am usually too excited to have the quilt finished to want to take the time to hand sew If you have any other questions, I am happy to talk about quilting! Or any other craft I do

From that ask dingus: 11. something on your wishlist? 21. how do you like your pizza? 27. what fascinates you about humanity?
11. A binder TwT but it’s costs quite a bit to get (and I am undecided on a style) so I’m holding off for now
21. Preferably I like thick chewy crusts but I don’t mind if I get thin ones
And honestly with me and pizza toppings anything goes as long as the combination isn’t disgusting! Hear me out on this: pear blue cheese and walnut pizza. Nobody understands that combination but me and my family! It’s freakin’ delicious! Try it I dare you
27. The capacity of the kindness and care of strangers.
I visited America once, and was using cash to pay for a meal at an automated order machine thing but it wouldn’t recognise my twenty dollar bill. A kind man swapped his bill with mine seeing my struggle ^^
Another time, I was really upset that I’d lost something important on public transport and a nice girl asked if I was okay, and told me how I could get it back when I explained everything.
But I think the event that stands out to me the most happened last autumn.
I was on my way back from a concert with a friend. It was your worst nightmare: phones are dead, it’s a Sunday night with work the next day, and we had to keep a family member updated with whereabouts for safety stuff. I wrote down the route back home on a piece of paper, and after accidentally going the wrong way on the bus, we managed to run into some other people from the gig who got on when we headed back the right way.
Now this is where fandom is very helpful; one of them let me borrow their phone and call home because I was wearing a Toby Fox pin. The shared understanding of something like that can bring people together, like allies helping allies.
The bus got to the station we needed to be at, and we then found a few more people who were all travelling the same way, so naturally we banded together. It was a tiring, but still enjoyable trip back chatting about the concert, the artists featured, the set list etc. Before we parted ways, I called home again to update them, thanked those lovely people for their help, and changed trains to head home.
We made it back in one piece despite the emotional turmoil of being underprepared and going to a gig on a freakin’ Sunday. If it weren’t for them I think we might have been in a bit of a bind…
If somehow the people who were there see this and remember us, thank you for sharing your phone and your company with us!! Still grateful after all this time 💙

Wednesday Addams - Rave'N dress
11/30/2022
In the third episode of Wednesday on Netflix, the titular character attends a Sadie Hawkins all-white prom. She wears a dress, ostensibly reposessed, by Thing, from the local oddities and antiques shop, that is in fact a vintage nylon blend Alaïa gown sourced by costuming super-star Colleen Atwood.
Tumblr media
I was torn about costuming anything from the show, but after seeing the dance montage, I couldn't reasonably keep her off the list. It's going to be a great costume for dance parties at cons, and I'm particlarily interested in wearing it with my friend who cosplays as Number Five from The Umbrella Academy.
I had to go to to Youtube for details of the dress, so pardon the screencaps below.
The Material:
The material is what most cosplayers would refer to as organza, and I assume Ms. Atwood called it nylon so as to distinguish it from its fancier cousin, silk organza.
The first article linked states that it is actually a mottled black-brown tye-dye, but as brown is my least favorite color on the planet, I will be using plain black organza, perhaps with a touch of a color-shift fabric on a sub-layer to add some visual intrigue (pizazz, you might say.)
The structure of the dress, from the top down:
Notably, there are no seams running accross the shoulder in the transparent yoke. This means the replica will need to be created with the pattern shoulders taped together.
The center back will also need to be on the fold, to avoid showing a seam.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then, the above-bust flounce. From the back view above, we can see there are two lines of ruffle. These could be integrated into the pattern, but I'll likely tack them straight onto the dress bodice, trim the seam allowance, and cover with some braid.
From the back view, we can see the interior non-transparent dress is:
structured like a corset
posessed of straps
not attached to the transparent yoke
Ergo, it is effectively two dresses. Now, I'm in a bit of a rush, and I like things to be easy, breezy, covergirl.
Therefore.
I'll be making one dress, thanks very much.
By layering the interior solid fabric and the exterior organza on all pattern pieces, and making a unified garment, the complexity will decrease - no corseting required - and the edge binding/lining will be more complete. Organza is itchy, and this is for the best.
So:
Snug fit bodice
Transparent yoke
Collar and front placket, down to waist
Under-arm zip (b/c no back zip) if you don't want a full front placket
I'll be avoiding a back zipper, just because of the transparent yoke. usually, I'm all for faking the buttons and slapping a zipper on the back, but I'd like to maintain the smooth look and collar, given that she''s wearing her hair up.
The solid material would best be something with a low stretch profile and a little heft. I've been on a denim kick recently, because it's cotton with built in interfacing, but something with a little shine might be better.
I'll call it 1-1/2 yards for the bodice + 1 yd (conservative) for the ruffle.
Now, onto the skirt.
Tumblr media
From this objectively terrible screencap, we can see that the skirt is:
Ankle length
Floofy
Gather-tiered
Has at least three layers
I can tell that the skirt is tiered and gathered because of the stripes of texture I can see in the image, roughly 4" and 10" down the skirt from the waistline. It's also the only explanation for the sheer volume of the dress, as we can see when she kicks at the 0:16-0:19 mark in the dance scene.
I see two layers - edges that stick up, not at the hem - at 1/3 and 2/3 down the skirt length in the video. It looks like they might be asymetric, but I'm not about that life, so I'll be ignoring that possibility. These are two layers on top of the base layer skirt.
Three layers of organza + modesty layer.
The modesty layer would be simplest to costruct out of cotton - it runs through the machine quickly, and gathers well. But, it can be stiff, and catch on itself.
To maintain the floofy flow, I think I'll use something thin, slinky, and soft.
For the gathering: for ultimate floof, use 2.5x the fabric required for the measurement. Ergo, with a 26" waist, the first tier of the skirt would be 66" wide. I'll use tiers in the 8-10" height range.
The math here is Fergalicous to do, so I won't be doing it. WeAllSew has a super great blog post about a cute as kittens floor length rainbow tiered skirt, so it's a good reference!
They list their fabric requirements as:
3/4 yard (44” wide) – Upper-tier (U)
5/8 yard (44” wide) – Middle-tier 1 (M1)
7/8 yard (44” wide) – Middle-tier 2 (M2)
1-1/2 yards (44” w.) – Middle-tier 3 (M3)
1-7/8 yards (44” wide ) – Lower-tier (L)
Their skirt is for a 40" hip, so I'll need a bit more, but I won't be needing it quite as long, so i'll need a bit less. How much more or less? No clue. I'm not doing the math, it's easier to do with just folding the fabric.
The yardage here sums to 5.6 yards, So I'll aim for 6.5 yards. But wait... that's just the base skirt!!
With a skirt layer at 2/3 the length, I'll need the top U, M1, M2 + 1/2 of M3.
With a skirt layer at 1/3 the length, I'll need U, M1 + 1/2 of the M2 layer.
Ergo, I need: 10-1/2 yards for the skirt 💀
3 U : 3 * 3/4 = 2.25
3 M1 : 3 * 5/8 = ~2
2-1/2 M2 : 2.5 * 7/8 = ~2
1-1/2M3 : 1.5 * 1-1/2 = 2.25
1 L : 1 * 1-7/8 = ~2
This math does have some wiggle room, but it's better to over-estimate than under-estimate. This skirt is big, team. I'll be visiting the dollar discount alley (I love you, Seoul) Before I try to get it anywhere else.
What else?
A little belt, not even relevant at this point of discussion.
Some buttons
Black interfacing
162 miles of black thread
Pockets
Joyously, with a skirt this big, a little pocket can go unnoticed. Unfortunately, with all the layers and gathering, having a side slit to access a pocket on an interior layer would not work too well, as it would be hard to access.
Might as well wear leggings with side pockets, and just hitch the whole shebang up if access is needed. Given the belt, could add a (small) fanny pack to it. That would work very well.
That's all for now -- will update with details as work commences. :)

Very bad photos, but I made a new thing! It's from Folkwear Patterns, #126 vests of Greece and Poland. I've made every vest in that pattern set before except this one. This was such a fun project. It came together so easily, even the inset pieces in the back. I was nervous about that part because it was sewing opposing curves and neither of the fabrics I was using had any stretch. The black print fabric was a gift from my bestie and it was a pleasure to work with, and the solid black is a faux suede I bought a while ago for another project. The trims I used I also bought a while ago, on a whim from etsy. They were easy to work with but they do unravel very easily lol. I made my own bias binding for the border and arm holes, it's definitely wasn't my best but it also wasn't horrible lol. I'm still not great at binding, I always miss spots when machine sewing it but I will say this was my best time yet so practice does help. I do plan on buying more of the plain black trim (when I'm not broke) and sewing that on top of the bias binding. I'm definitely going to make another one of these already. I have fabric in my stash that I was actually saving for this pattern. It's this patchworky gold and red tapestry esque thing? I got at a thrift store before covid lol. I'm guessing it was a drape or wall hanging, I used a seam ripper to remove the cheap polyester backing and I'm going to use the main fabric for the vest. I'll try and take progress pics but I'm really excited about it.

Revamp Your Style: Whereas jean alterations can seem like a daunting task to some, there are several tips and tricks we can share for making the process easier.
Tumblr media
Your style has finally been completed with the right curtains but those curtains require tailoring since they are too long. It will definitely be intimidating to trim the curtains; however, you don't have a sewing machine or have not mastered the art of sewing. But if all you need is minimal and money mid ways, you can save a lot with just change the boards all by yourself. Curtains are nice and quick to trim to the desired length using a lightweight ironing tape or a piece of fabric adhesive. Expert Insights: It is significant to pick bracelet as a curtain and this is what I genuinely believe from my heart. ● Firstly, the memory can stop Lucy from being indecisive, as she will have something to remind her gently about what her true motives is By using the bracelet to keep the fabric from folding the bottom, you will have your Curved Alterations part done correctly. If the fabric is carefully pinned together, the bracelet will have the optimal length that is also perfectly clean and ironed
● Keeping the RPM dial as a reference point to keep track down of the spins during rebalancing. In the case of folding material, the wristband aids in accuracy and uniformity, so no mistakes are made when making wristbands. The bracelet under control the pinning process, thus the successive tight-pinning every 2-3 inch distances goes well and the cloth folding is proper and uniform. Since it complements well with other materials of curtain, the bracelet further enhances the tidiness of the home decor. The cuff holds the fold of the fabric very well when the appliance is pressed with a hard iron on the bottom of the panel in order to create a sort of a fold in the fabric. The bracelet exists which affects the iron elastic measuring and straitening processes and makes all the panel plates look like the rest.
The 3-inch strip of paper slipped under the curved edge in the last stage is the rafter which binds the tape between the packed edge and the panel. This is the basis call of a real professional which guarantees your satisfaction. To sum up, necklace here serves as the vital means of checking accuracy, consistency, and uniformity in the acts of a stage change. ● Maintain your grill about medium heat. On each of the tabs, use an iron to bind the tape with one hand by folding the cloth over it and then folding it back in again. Pull the iron evenly across the panel for 2-3 seconds keeping the iron in the panel’s width. Work on each panel again and again after this. Then, set the panel aside and wait till it gets to room temperature. Let's start with focusing on the hair that is still attached to the tape. First, take the edge tabs in your hands and insert them over the strips. Apply pressure on the fabric for approximately 10 to 12 seconds, then move on to the next one. To avoid heat emanating from the curtain rail, ensure that you completely cool down the panel before recharging the drapes. You would be better off getting trained advice for Curtain Alteration Rickmansworth, in order to get professional tips and a neat finish. Locating a Suitable Curtain Alteration Service: A How-to Guide

Technical File
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here is my technical file. This is where I show my garment construction and how my dress came to life. I included samples of how my ideas and dress formed. I used several techniques to construct my dress such as binding, applique, top stitching, and weaving. For the making of my skirt, for the right front panel I used hundreds of strips of denim and frayed the strips and cut them into small rectangular and square shapes as I wanted to create a mosaic of bricks in denim from my inspiration of architecture. I sewed each strip on individually and tried to mimic the arts of weaving which I made on a previous sample. This was my first-time experimenting ad weaving, so I am especially proud and happy it turned out. It did take several weeks and hors on the sewing machine however I do love the outcome as it is elegant and structured but still hints at my quirky and unusual designs from an uncomplicated process yet time consuming to a strong impact design. I hope to keep experimenting with new textile pieces and keep pushing my boundaries. For my left side panel of my skirt of the dress, I used the waistbands and the seams with double thread from the jeans donated from Barnsley Hospice and applique them onto my skirt of the dress. I wanted something simpler but effective to blend but still stand out on my dress. I made previous samples before to help me see the outcome and understand how I would sew it together and construct it. I sewed down the original stitches onto my dress as my pattern was a skirt, I sewed my first waist band on the original seam of the jeans and trimmed the excess from the skirt pattern. It was still a lengthy process but not as long as my right front panel. One area challenging was sewing the skirt patterns together and sewing the skirt to the bodice as the denim made my pattern thick. So, I went slowly to not break the sewing machine and the needle it was a little effective, but I did break two needles due to the thick fabric. I had struggle with the overlocker as well but thankfully it created a nice finish and did not get stuck or broken. For my final textile technique, I used belt loops from the waistbands, and these acted as brick effect, and I sewed these on to my back bodice pieces to still have a design throughout my dress but much simpler on the back of the garment. I decided on a concealed zip for my fastening as I wanted it hidden and it was a simple but professional finish. I did struggle making it line up with my belt, so I unpicked it several times and tried again until it was right and in line. For finishing my hems, I learnt binding as a result I made a small sample to see how it would look like and construct like as well. It was simple and effective it did take long due to the length of my pieces. I choose the colour that match the chosen garment from the Hospice which was an off white / grey colour. It worked well and finished off my garment perfectly. When it was all finished, I was happy with the patients and effort I took to construct and design my dress from my illustration. I had to make a few pattern pieces, and I used closed seams throughout my construction. I included my method of construction as well.  Finally I included my specification drawing of my dress to show how I constructed my dress.
Method of Construction
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Full garment construction video
This is a quick sped up video of my garment construction. Watching it back now I see how much time and patients I took whilst working on this textiles of the skirt panels of the dress. It did take several weeks however it leaves a stunning and elegant effect of a mosaic from my theme of architecture. For my final garment I wanted to incorporate small details and ideas from architecture as many of Barnsley's building it has small hidden stone works of details. I am proud that I took the time to practice on the industrial machine in my previous project as I have clearly developed my skill and control of the machine. As I would not have managed to achieve this result on the domestic as the fabric sewing together was so thick I struggled with the industrial machine as I did not wan to break the needle which I did manage to do twice. I am happy that my seams are straighter compared to my first time using the industrial machines. There is a clear difference in improvement. I hope to keep developing and seeing and learning new techniques with textiles. I used different ideas I did not use to think to decorate my garment with using belt loops, waistband and seams from jeans so this was an interesting concept to play around with but it gives strong and structured feel to my dress.

AGENT OF CHAOS - PART THREE

AGENT OF CHAOS - PART THREE
Jason Todd x Reader
Summary: Everything flew by him in a blur as he sped through the streets of Gotham. His foot slammed down harder on the accelerator desperate to get there faster. Every second counted. He knew all too well what The Joker was like. The way his face slipped as you defied him, terrified Jason. He’d seen that look right before receiving a crowbar to the face.
Warnings – Language. Kidnapping. Stalking. Mild Violence. Angst. Hurt.
Word Count: 4,870
A/N: This is the final chapter everyone, sorry for the little delay, I was working on a few of the actions scenes to ensure they were good. I really hope you all like this xoxo
~~~
It had been almost a month. Every lead turned into a dead end. Nothing. Much like the Joker himself, no one knew a thing. The whole thing was tearing Jason apart. He’d barely slept. He’d maybe had 3 hours per night. If that, and he was convinced the only reason he got sleep was because Bruce had slipped him something in his coffee.
The fourth cassette tape came with a dead yellow rose and a rotten apple. He pushed play on the recorder and swallowed thickly as the grainy camera zoomed in on your face. You looked pale. Your cheeks looked hollow and your once colourful eyes looked gaunt. Haunted.
“Well Jason, I’m a man of my word...I’ve been looking after her so good”, Joker laughed hysterically and smoothed his hand down your cheek, smacking it lightly. The slap caused you to jolt in the chair. A sharp gasp flew out of your chapped lips.
Jason felt Bruce’s hand squeeze his shoulder reassuringly. The notion sent a brief wave of calm through Jason. Maybe this was how Bruce felt all those years ago...when he received similar tape of ..of himself. Jason turned back to the screen and focused his eyes. Searching for a clue. Anything. Something to bring you back to him.
“She’s been such a good little princess bird boy...she’s done everything I asked...and more”, Joker whistled happily as he tapped your nose with a wicked smile. Jason felt his heart stop and looked directly into your eyes through the screen. Good he wanted to hold you in his arms and never let you go.
The tape skipped and replayed the same thing back, “...and more”. It skipped again, “...and more”. Jason growled and the tape paused before going completely black.
His fist smashed into the computer keyboard, pieces of black plastic scattering across the desk. Jason released a loud sobbing noise and sank to the cold stone floor of the bat cave. His eyes scrunched shut tightly, imagining you were in front of him. Giving him that silly smile you always did when you first woke up. It was one of his favourite smiles. You had hundreds of different types of smiles. The one you gave him when he hugged you randomly. The one you’d give him when he told you a stupid joke. The one you’d show him when you were both standing down one of the grocery aisles for no reason at all.
“Jason...son - we will find her - I promise you”, Bruce’s deep voice shattered Jason’s illusion of you in his mind.
“It’s been so long...what if-”, Jason ran a hand over his face. The stubble was longer, causing him to itch.
“Don’t”, Bruce warned, “don’t think like that. We will find her”.
~~~
The last cassette tape Jason received was covered in a dark, red sticky substance. Jason knew what it was but he didn’t know if it was yours. Before Jason could even think about playing it, Bruce had prized it from his fingers.
“Jason we need to analyse the blood, it might give us a clue”, his voice was stable and deep. He attempted to reassure Jason with a firm grip to the shoulder but it did nothing. Jason felt empty without you.
“We need to watch-”, Jason started but was interrupted by Bruce.
“No, I’ll watch it. You need to get some sleep, let me do this Jason. Please”, Bruce pleaded desperately, “You haven’t slept in over 48 hours”.
Jason laughed but it was hollow and sharp, “You really think I can sleep knowing she’s stuck with that fucking psycho?!”.
Bruce sighed and ran a hand over his face, “Jason I know you want to get Y/N back”, he placed the cassette onto a high tech scanning machine, it bleeped repeatedly as it scanned over the material, “But we all need to be working together and that means recharging our batteries”.
Jason scoffed and pushed past Bruce looking over the computer scanner typing something into the system, “So you’re telling me you went and had an eight hour sleep when Joker caught me?”.
Bruce pinched the bridge of his nose, “Jason”.
“JUST STOP!!”, Jason's voice cracked as he shouted and for a moment, he sounded like the broken man in the abandoned shopping mall that long Halloween night many years ago.
“I-I need to do this Bruce. I-I have to, for Y/N”, his voice was scratchy and raw.
Bruce simply nodded and turned around. He extracted the cassette from the blood stained cloth and pushed it into the player to the right. Bruce took a secondary glance to Jason, giving him one last option but Jason just stared at the screen, waiting to see what the tape would show.
The second the tape played, the batcave was filled with your screams. They sounded broken and dry. Jason’s heart shattered. The shards stabbing him painfully. As you came into view on the camera, your long h/c hair was matted and stuck to your face. Blood staining it a deep red.
The Joker came into the view of the camera and smiled wide, his teeth showing.
“Jason, I see why you’re so attached to this woman, she’s very fiery...her spirit is impenetrable”.
A flicker of evil flew through his eyes at that word and a sick smile slid onto his lips, “but that’s fine. I’m sure I can find more penetrable spots”.
You tug harshly at your binds as he turned and came closer to you, a small blade held in his gloves hand.
“Hold still princess or I might accidentally cut an important part of you...or slit something”.
The blade cut the straps of your top, and the material fluttered down uselessly to the floor, exposing your padded black bra. The Joker whistled appreciatively and winked back at the camera.
“I say Jason...maybe I’m missing out not having a significant other...especially when they’re as beautiful as this”.
Jason had edged so close to the screen Bruce had to pull him back. Tears were running hotly down his cheeks and he swore he tasted blood from biting down on his bottom lip.
Your voice echoed through the empty warehouse room and through the camera speakers, “GO FUCK YOURSELF”.
The Joker smirked down at you and the blade was pressed against the skin of your neck.
“You should watch your manners, princesses don’t speak like that”.
You gulped and looked into his soulless eyes and laughed. It almost sounded as maniacal as his.
“I’m not your fucking princess”.
You spat at his face. Your spit mingled with blood from the earlier smack around the face.
“He’ll come for me...I know he will. And when he does, it’ll be all over for you”.
Something snapped and you saw his eyes darken. His face twisted and the scowl was demonic.
“You filthy fucking bitch!”, he roared and dropped the knife to wipe his face.
Joker turned to the camera and glowered, “I hope you’re watching Jason whilst I teach this rotten little whore some manners!”.
The first blow caused you to cry out in agony. It was harsh and fast. The sound to Jason was ear splitting. The second hit was drawn out and heavy. Designed to bruise. The third was sharp and felt like hundreds of tiny needles piercing your skin. The Joker was laughing wildly all the way through it. Never ceasing his treatment. As he swung his arm back for the fourth hit, the camera jarred and caught a window. Streams of light shone through. Jason could just about make out a sign. It was blurry.
“REWIND AND PAUSE IT BRUCE! There!!!”, he called and waited for Bruce to zoom in.
“Can you clear up that image...that looks like a road sign...”.
Bruce skipped the tape back several seconds, muting the sounds on the screen. The sounds of you getting smacked in the face shaking him to his core.
“THERE!!! LOOK!! Can you see?!”, Jason pressed his face as close as possible to the screen as Bruce paused it, the image flickered but the road sign was obvious.
ACE CHEMICALS.
Before Bruce could even react, Jason had launched himself across the cave, guns strapped to his thighs.
“Jason!”.
Jason ignored Bruce and grabbed his helmet, securing it into place whilst dropping extra magazine clips into his inner jacket pockets.
“Jason, we can’t just go in there all guns blazing. That’s what he’ll want! We have to think about this”, Bruce reasoned and moved into his path.
Huffing in annoyance, Jason’s modulator covered it easily, “I’m going to get her whether you come with me or not”.
Bruce looked stunned for a split second before softening his voice, “You’re letting your emotions get the better of you - they’re clouding your judgment Jason”.
He knew he was right, deep down. But the pressure. The torture you must have endured. Everything. It weighed down on Jason and began to suffocate him slowly. The more time he wasted, the worse it was going to be. He couldn’t do it.
“Let me get into my suit and we’ll tackle this together”.
Nodding briefly, Jason watched Bruce make his way across to the darkened corner of the cave where his suit was behind a glass panel. As Bruce pressed his palm into the wall, the biometric scanner bleeped. The case slid open slowly and Bruce began to take out the suit piece by piece. The batarangs refracted the light they caught from the computer screens.
Fuck. It was taking too long, these precious seconds. He could be half way there by now. His bike was too far away, in the garage at the front of the manor. He side eyed the batmobile and swallowed thickly.
“Fuck it”.
Taking the keys from the secret sliding panel on the desk, Jason leapt into the batmobile before starting the engine and speeding out of the cave. He swore he heard Bruce shouting, he was certain he heard several curse words too. Unlike Bruce. But it was taking too long. He couldn’t wait. He couldn’t leave you. You needed him. You couldn’t wait any longer.
~~~
Everything flew by him in a blur as he sped through the streets of Gotham. His foot slammed down harder on the accelerator desperate to get there faster. Every second counted. He knew all too well what The Joker was like. The way his face slipped as you defied him, terrified Jason. He’d seen that look right before receiving a crowbar to the face.
“Come on...come on!!”, Jason cursed to himself, hitting the steering wheel in fury. All the money Bruce had and it wouldn’t go any faster? He took a sharp turn heading towards the abandoned warehouse behind ACE Chemicals. He was so close. So much closer to reaching you. He’d deal with Bruce later. He couldn’t have waited any longer. Bruce would just have to get over him ‘borrowing’ the batmobile.
Swerving another corner and narrowly dodging the underpass columns, he pulled up in front of the derelict building. Almost all of the windows were smashed and hued green with mould. Maybe some of the toxins spewed from the factory had helped taint the glass further.
Grabbing both of his pistols, Jason left the car and headed towards the building fire escape. He could hear voices chattering.
“Joker said to keep an eye out for Batman”.
A goon; Jason noted peering around the brick wall spotting two of them. He noticed the metal railings above them creaking slightly in the strong winds.
“It’s been over a month now and there’s been no sign of any of the Bat freaks, it’s fine, let’s go grab a beer. He won’t even notice”, a second one encouraged the other smirking.
“You really want to cross him? He’s fucking nuts. I’m surprised the girl has even lasted this long with him, you know what he’s like”.
Jason’s fist tightened around one of his guns at the mention of you. It had to be you. Silently firing his grapple gun, he flew up the side of the building and made his way towards the goons.
“Trust me”, the first one spoke again, “He won’t even realise we’re gone, plus we might find some chicks to-”.
Perching on the railings above them, Jason leapt down cracking the base of his pistols onto one of their heads.
“Pleasure to meet you both”, Jason kicked out at the second goon hearing the sick crack of his ankle snapping.
Spinning on his heel, Jason grabbed the other goon and threw him face first into the brick wall knocking him unconscious immediately before turning back to the other man on the floor whimpering in pain.
“Where is she?”, Jason’s voice was strained even with the modulator protecting him.
The man refused to answer, dragging himself away from Jason with his hands, mud covering his palms.
Taking a large step, Jason reached the man on the floor and purposely stood onto his swollen ankle before aiming the cocked pistol towards his skull.
“I won’t ask again, where is she?”.
The screech from the man was deafening as Jason applied a hefty amount of pressure to his fractured bone.
“Basement!! She’s in the basement!! Please!!”, he begged as his eyes flickered nervously to the gun.
Jason rolled his shoulders before smashing the hilt of his pistol into his skull knocking him out cold. He turned back towards the fire escape and grappled back up to the roof. He’d have to make his way through the building to get to the basement. To you. And if he knew Joker, he wouldn’t have made it that easy. The two idiots on the front door were a sick joke. Tormenting Jason. Getting you back wouldn’t be an easy task.
~~~
Silently dropping through the window on top of the building, Jason landed onto one of the rusty steel girders. It was dark but his helmet adjusted the night vision so he could see clearly. Several goons patrolling an old foreman’s office in the centre. You had to be in there. He needed to take these idiots out quietly before getting to you.
Swinging across to the next rafter, Jason looked down at the first unsuspecting moron. With the stealth of a panther, he landed silently behind the goon before wrapping his arm around his meaty neck. He struggled against the iron grip of Jason’s forearm but the pressure only intensified the more he thrashed. Eventually the squirming stopped and the goon fell limp in his arms. Jason dragged him across to a darkened corner and dumped him behind some barrels.
As he grappled back up to roof beams, he looked down across at the two henchmen digging out a packet of cigarettes. The idiots had left their guns resting against the far wall. Jason had to chuckle to himself, Joker really was hiring morons. Weren’t these guys supposed to be protection?
Jason creeped across the rafters towards the two men and grabbed both of his pistols. He had to be silent. He couldn’t alert Joker to his presence.
“This is my last smoke”, one complained bitterly as the cigarette perched between his thin lips.
“I’ll get the next packet, quit your whining”, the second growled and patted his jacket for a lighter, “Fuck, where did I put my lighter?”.
“You’re a fucking moron. You asked to come for a smoke and you don’t even have a light!!”.
Now was his chance. Jason landed between them both, his boots thudding as he hit the concrete floor, “You know, smoking is bad for your health”. Before either of the goons could react, Jason lifted his elbow into the larger man's throat before smashing his pistol into the other man's temple, causing him to drop onto his knees. He slipped his guns back into his holsters quickly before turning to the other goon. He dodged the larger man’s grapple before twisting with ease and kicking out his kneecap. The man gasped but the elbow to his throat had killed off his voice.
Jason threw a heavy right hook into the larger man's nose and watched the blood trickle down his face. This seemed to only infuriate him more and he launched himself towards Jason viciously. Gripping both of his arms, Jason flipped the man over his body and slammed him into the floor hard before hammering punch after punch to his face, knocking him unconscious.
He turned quickly to the other man who was scrambling on his knees for the gun resting against the far wall.
“Sorry bud, but that can’t happen”, Jason grunted and landed a heavy kick to the goons stomach. The man yelped but it was quickly cut off by Jason as he slammed his boot into his face. He dropped onto the floor instantly.
Jason panted heavily and looked around the room, his helmet advising him of one more goon loitering around the door of the office. Looking down at the floor he noticed the floor grates wrapped around the room and more importantly under the henchmen’s feet. Perfect.
He lifted one of the grate coverings quietly and slipped under the flooring. He crouched down and edged around the room. The last goon was much larger and bulkier, with a machine gun strapped around his wide chest.
This goon seemed smarter than the others. Looking around and even checking up in the rafters. He grunted and pressed a button on his jacket, “No boss, still no sign of them...nothing Sir”.
The voice that patched through sent a chill down Jason’s spine. It was a tone that would be forever cemented in his mind, a reminder of his own torment.
“If you get ANY inclination the bat or any of his costumed freaks are in the building, you tell me immediately”.
“Yes boss”.
The static of the radio crackled before cutting off completely. Jason cursed mentally. This had to be precise. Perfection. He had to disable the henchman’s radio unit. Padding over his jacket he searched for the disrupter shooter he had. It wasn’t there. Fuck. He’d fucked up in his rush and left it behind. Fuck. Bruce was right. Fuck, fuck, fuck.
Then he heard it. A soft ping from above him. He knew that sound. Jason looked up from the grate and spotted Nightwing hidden in the shadows with his own disrupter. Pointed directly at the goon’s radio system.
“Thought you might need a hand”, Dick patched into Jason’s com line.
Jason growled under his breath, “Thanks”.
“Shall we take this moron out together?”.
“Yes”, Jason muttered before switching his com off and inched closer to the goon.
The second Nightwing flew down from the roof beams, Jason jumped out of the floor grate and kicked out the back of the goons knees. He cursed loudly before Nightwing’s foot landed in his face.
Jason swore he saw a tooth fly out of his mouth along with a glob of blood. He aimed several hard punches to the side of the henchman’s head whilst Nightwing disabled his gun and radio with a graceful poise.
“All this for the girl? She’s nothing but a shell”, the goon smirked across at Jason before choking at the next punch.
“Joker’s hollowed her out...she’s nothing”, he spat out.
His temper flared and his hand subconsciously reached for his pistol. Dick realised and before anything could happen, he landed an electrical ecrisma blow to the goons head, knocking him out cold. His body crashed onto the floor with a loud thump.
“Jason-”.
“Don’t”, Jason cut him off, “I’m fine”.
He took several steps towards the office door and swallowed thickly. You. You’d be in there. You’d told Joker with the last ounce of confidence left that he’d come for you. He’d never leave you. You were right. Jason would never have stopped looking. Ever.
His hand rested on the door handle, trembling only slightly. What if he was too late. What if this was just another trick?
Drawing his hand back almost as though the door had burnt him. He frowned. He couldn’t think like this. No. He had to be strong. Just like you had been in all those videos. You’d been fierce. Your spirit still pouring through to him.
Jason glared angrily at the door and took a step back before kicking it open furiously with his combat boot. The door flew open wildly and as the dust settled. He saw Joker stood in the middle of the room, a sick, satisfied smirk sat proudly on his demented face.
~~~
“Jason my boy! It’s a pleasure to see you again”, his chuckle was deep and sinister, “I see you're still hiding your face though...is that because of what I did?”. The Joker’s eyes danced with delirious joy at the memories.
“I’d have thought you’d have embraced all your scars by now Jason...”, The Joker edged forward leaving you tied up behind him.
Jason rounded The Joker, clicking a button to the side of his mask, revealing his face, his eyes hidden with the domino mask, “I’ve got nothing to hide from you, clown”.
Jason let his eyes run over you for a second. You were bruised and bloodied. Clothes torn and tattered from mistreatment. Your eyes. God. Your beautiful E/C eyes. Red raw from countless tears. Somehow you still managed to give him a smile from behind The Joker. His heart fluttered. God he’d missed your smile.
Tearing his eyes from you he looked back towards The Joker and held his pistols out at him, finger hovering over the trigger. Jason felt the burn mark on his cheek stinging all over again. Pain ever present.
“You don’t have the guts”, The Joker laughed again and walked forward pressing his forehead into the barrel of the gun.
“You wouldn’t dare pull that trigger. I’m your Ace card Jason. You can’t kill me. You want to but you can’t...something will always stop you”.
Jason felt his hand shaking slightly. Everything was throbbing in his mind.
“Even after everything I’ve done to your girl, you still can’t pull that trigger”, The Joker taunted further and grinned sadistically.
“If only you knew where I’d touched...what I’ve done...”, he pushed further into the cold metal of the gun and winked at Jason, “Go on, do it, I dare you...if you don’t- I’m just going to keep coming back and who knows what I’ll do to our little princess next-”.
BANG.
A gun shot blasted through the air. Smoke drifted slowly from the barrel, dancing into the darkness around them.
“JASON!”.
Nightwing had thrown one of his ecrisma sticks to Jason’s gun, knocking it off target. The bullet shattered the brickwork behind them, dust erupting.
Crashing down through one of the broken windows on top of the office roof, Nightwing flew towards The Joker tackling him down onto the damp, concrete floor before he could launch himself at Jason.
Still startled, Jason watched Dick wrestling with The Joker on the floor, punches flying back and forth.
Dick turned to Jason, “Y/N-Jason!! Go get Y/N!! I’ll handle this!”.
The Joker was shrieking with laughter underneath Dick, blood pouring down his lip and from his nose.
“Ahhhh another boy blunder!! I must be lucky!! Two for the price of one!”.
Dick threw another punch and reached for the second ecrisma stick on his back, “I can’t wait to cart you back to the Asylum. I hope you’re looking forward to your 5 star stay in a windowless cesspit!”.
Jason could hear Joker continually laughing at Dick, until the sharp sound of electrical buzzing cut him off with a loud scream.
He almost fell over his own feet as he raced towards you. Jason quickly untied your hands and the second they were free you flung them around his neck, sobbing into his neck. Your tears dropping onto his brown leather jacket.
“Oh baby”, Jason stroked your hair and held you tightly to him. He was worried he was crushing you but you seemed to be squeezing him back just as hard.
You didn’t stop sobbing. The overwhelming emotion of being wrapped in his safe, strong arms make your knees buckle. Jason caught you with ease and lifted you up, “It’s ok baby, I’ve got you. I’ve always got you”.
Jason was one step away from breaking down himself but he needed to be strong for you right now.
You pressed your skin against his, the scratch of his stubble a welcome sting against your cheek. His scent overwhelmed you. Leather. Gunpowder. Smoke. And something distinct you’d never been able to place.
“Jason”.
“Shhh, it’s ok - nothing is going to hurt you, I’m here now - I’m a bit late but I’m here”.
~~~
It had been one week since you’d been back home. Two weeks if you counted the first week you and Jason spent holed up in the manor. Bruce had insisted. You sat in the bathtub, knees pressed up against your bare chest. Silence. All you could hear was the faint crackle of the bubbles every now and again. The clinical white tiles of the bathroom made you feel a little cleaner.
However,  no matter how many baths you took, showers you stood in, you still couldn’t wipe the feel of the slick purple gloves off your skin. Your skin. Skin that was now marred with yellowish bruising. Almost faded physically but not mentally. Looking over the marks you felt yourself transported back into the desolate warehouse. The dank smell of stagnant water filling your nostrils. You choked and coughed loudly, suddenly feeling the oxygen clam up your throat. Drowning in the memories.
“Y/N??”.
Within a mere second Jason had flung open the bathroom door, red tinting his cheek and a little sweat on his forehead, “Sweetheart are you ok?”.
You noted how he chose to call you sweetheart now and not his usual princess. A stark reminder that this whole ordeal had affected him too, more than he’d admitted. You felt the guilt eat away at you. Shame burning at your feet.
“Y-yeah, I’m ok”, you mumbled quietly and swirled some of the water and bubbles around you, “I just accidentally swallowed some of the bath water, I’m sorry”.
Jason nodded although not quite believing you. He closed the door behind him and sat on the edge of the tub taking a deep breath, “It’s ok to not be ok sweetheart...I know it can be difficult to admit that...I know that more than most”, he wiped a stray bubble from the rim of the tub. He looked at you deeply before continuing, “I’ll be here for you...whenever and whatever you need”.
You sat silently in the water and he moved to get up. Maybe he thought it was best to leave you alone, let you uncover your own emotions. Process what had happened. You gripped his wrist and looked up into the crystal blue of his eyes, “Jason”.
“Yeah babe?”, he turned his wrist in your hand and linked his fingers with yours.
“I love you”.
He smiled and squeezed your hand before whispering back, “I love you too, more than you know”.
He looked over you and moved to sit back on the edge of the bath. His spare hand reached out and cupped your chin lovingly, stroking over your skin.
“We’ll work through this together Y/N, I promise”, Jason murmured and leaned forward kissing your forehead lightly, “I’ll do whatever you need me to do...anything at all”.
The words, the touches, the kiss. It made your heart flutter and you fell even more in love with him. Jason made the impossible possible and you had no idea how he managed it every day. You felt so lucky.
“I - I struggle some d-days”, you admitted and with those words you felt a little lighter, “sometimes all I want is for you to hold me and not let me go...Sometimes I-I f-feel like that for hours...”.
“Well then I’ll hold you for hours”, he said simply.
You scoffed lightly but before you could protest or think of arguing back he was stepping into the bath water fully clothed.
“Jay!! You’re going to flood the bathroom”, you gasped loudly, watching the water splash over the sides like dramatic tidal waves. Water dispersed all over the bathroom floor to make way for his broad frame, “What are you doing?!”.
Jason sunk down into the water behind you and wrapped his arms either side, pulling you back into his clothed chest. He rested his head on your shoulder, pressing a chaste kiss there, “Holding you for as long as you need me to”.
You felt yourself melt into his warm embrace. Tears made their way down your cheeks at his endearing show of love, “Jason”.
“Shhh, just let me hold you baby”, he cuddled you tighter into him, his fingers stroking your hips under the water, brushing away the bruises. Marking you with his own special touch.
Relaxing under his soft caresses, you hummed lightly and closed your eyes resting your head back against him. He smelt like leather and spice. You felt at home. He was home.
“Jay”.
“Mmm?”.
“Please call me princess”, you whispered quietly into the air, your eyes still closed.
“Whatever you want...princess”.

Ivory Runs Red: 4/6
Tumblr media
Just look at this cover art by @cocohook38 !!!!! Isn’t it amazing? I just can’t stop staring at it. She is so talented and spent so much time working on this, please head over to her blog and give her some love.
This chapter is sort of a bridge chapter (no pun intended) where we begin to discover connections between all the characters. Belle especially is tied to Emma in a surprising way.
Massive thanks again to my beta @demisexualemmaswan and everyone in the @cssns !
Summary: When ebony flashes gold, blood runs cold. When ivory runs red, you’ll be dead. Killian Jones had heard the old rhyme his entire life. Every child did in Storybrooke, Maine. They heard it whispered in the dark at sleepovers as children; taunted as a challenge as teenagers. Killian never believed it was actually true. Until that fateful night …
Rated M for graphic depictions of violence, abusive relationships, and major character death (I mean, it’s a ghost story ya’ll, people are dead. BUT I promise, there is a happy ending. Trust me? *peeks from around a corner*)
Length: 6 chapters, complete, updated every Friday
Chapter One | Chapter Two | Chapter Three

Chapter Four: Red
“Neal Gold,” Belle said, her voice trembling with excitement, “no wonder it got covered up.”
Belle struggled with an ancient tome on the top shelf in the library’s genealogy room, and Killian rushed to help her. When they set it atop the metal desk nearby, a cloud of dust billowed up. The genealogy room was hidden away in the basement too.
“I still can’t believe Graham went to the bridge,” Belle continued. He’d never seen her so giddy with excitement. “This will show everyone Killian! You aren’t crazy!”
Killian nodded weakly. He knew it was true, and he knew that Graham getting Neal’s last name from Emma was a huge break for them, but he was starting to worry. He wanted to help Emma by solving her murder, but he also didn’t want to lose her. Didn’t ghosts linger because they had unfinished business? If he, Belle, and Graham, took care of Emma’s unfinished business, then would she . . . what? Move on to paradise? Cease to exist?
“Killy, did you hear what I said?”
He shook the thoughts from his head and focused on Belle who stood over the huge book, her finger pointing to its binding.
“Um, sorry. What did you say?”
“I tried to look up Swan, Emma, but the entire S section is missing.”
Belle’s fingers ran along the torn edges of several pages. Killian ran his hand wearily down his face.
“Of course it is. So no birth certificate there either.”
“Wait a minute!” Belle exclaimed. “We know she died in 1894, and we know she was sixteen years old.”
“Which means she was born in 1878. We figured that out already. But the birth certificates from that entire year are also missing, remember?”
Belle nodded. “Yes, yes, the Gold family had money and power and were very thorough, but they may not have thought about baby announcements.”
Killian grinned. “Parents put baby announcements in the newspaper! Belle, you’re a genius!”
They ran down the short hallway to the microfilm room. Belle quickly pulled out the film for 1878 and put it in the machine. Once they figured out where the social section of the paper was located, they were able to scroll fairly quickly. And then - there it was. Just a few short lines:
David and Mary Margaret Swan are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Emma Eva Swan, on October 22nd, 1878 at three o-clock in the afternoon. She is welcomed by her paternal grandmother, Ruth Elizabeth Swan, and her maternal grandfather, Leopold Blanchard.
******************************************************
“David and Mary Margaret,” Emma whispered.
Killian tightened his hold around her shoulders and brushed a kiss against the crown of her head. “They were your parents.”
Emma nodded slowly, and he watched her facial expression under the light of the waning moon. He could practically see happy memories light up her face.
“I remember them,” she whispered. “We didn’t have a lot of money, but we were very happy. We lived on a farm.”
She dropped her head onto Killian’s shoulder and let out a contented sigh. They remained that way for a long moment, silently watching the stars twinkle overhead.
“She had a beautiful smile,” Emma told him quietly, “and he used to cup my head so tenderly whenever he hugged me. That’s all I remember, though. Their faces are even fuzzy in my memory.”
“I’m sorry.”
She turned in his embrace so she could look him in the eye. “Don’t be. I wouldn’t remember anything if it weren’t for you. Thank you, Killian.”
She pulled his head down gently so she could press her lips to his. They lost themselves in the passion of their kisses.
***********************************************************
Killian sat with Belle once again in the library’s musty basement. Books with cracked leather bindings were piled around them: genealogy records, property records, and marriage certificates. With names and the information that Emma grew up on a farm, they were able to piece together the history of the Swan and Gold families.
There was no evidence, however, of the Swan’s reporting their daughter was missing. In fact, aside from the birth announcement in the paper, there was no evidence that Emma Swan had existed at all. Everytime they got close, records were conveniently missing. Pages had clearly been torn out of several books, and years worth of Storybrooke Mirror and Portland Press articles were missing from the microfilm records.
“It’s so obvious, though,” Belle exclaimed in frustration, slamming yet another large book shut. “Neal Gold falls in love with Emma Swan, a poor farmer’s daughter. His family would never approve of the relationship, so he never plans on marrying her. She’s just a good time to him.”
“I’m still a little grossed out by how old he was,” Killian muttered.
Those records hadn’t been missing. Neal Gold was absolutely, unequivocally twenty nine years old when he met fourteen year old Emma Swan. Which made him thirty one when he got her pregnant and murdered her.
Disgusting.
“Belle? Did you hear me?”
His friend had gone completely pale, her finger frozen in the center of a yellowed page. Killian got up and leaned over her shoulder.
“What’s this?”
She flipped the heavy leather volume back to the cover with a deep sigh. Killian leaned further over his shoulder and read the title out loud.
“The Life, Impact, and Genealogy of Storybrooke’s Founding Family: The Golds. Well that’s not pretentious at all,” he snorted. Belle giggled. “By -”
He cut off, reeled back, and looked at Belle, who nodded in affirmation. “By Roderick Gaston?”
“There’s more,” Belle told him, flipping back to the page that had left her frozen.
It was a family tree, and Killian scanned it quickly. At the top was Robert Gold, the founder of Storybrooke, with his wife Milah’s name beside his. Below that, it listed their only son: Neal Gold. He married Tamara Gold in 1894, the same year Emma died.
“Well, there’s another motive for murder,” Killian murmured, “not only did he get a teenager pregnant, he was cheating on his fiance.”
“Keep going,” Belle whispered.
Neal and Tamara had three children: Bonnie, Felix, and Gretchen. The oldest daughter, Bonnie, had married Roderick Gaston, and they had two sons: Lewis and Mitchum Gaston.
“Wait - isn’t Mike’s dad Mitch Gaston?”
“Yes,” Belle told him softly, “and I met his grandfather once, too. His name is Roderick. I never put two and two together before, but the man was the worst snob. He kept asking who my people were and going on and on about how the Gaston’s were connected to Storybrooke’s finest families.”
“So this means that your boyfriend -”
“Is the descendant of Emma’s murderer.”
*******************************************************
“Where the hell are you going?”
Killian jumped at the sound of his brother’s voice. He whirled away from the back door to find Liam standing in the kitchen with the phone in his hand. Killian could hear the loud, grating beeping of the line as it went dead.
“Who were you talking to at 3 am?” Killian shot back.
Liam narrowed his eyes then slowly put the phone back onto the receiver that hung on the wall. He took his time untangling the long cord before turning back to face Killian.
“Something’s happened, little brother.”
Liam’s voice was so full of fear, shock, and sadness that Killian didn’t even bother correcting him on the little brother label.
**********************************************************
The girl in the hospital bed couldn’t possibly be Belle. Her eyes were wild and darted around the room, her hair was a tangled mass around her face, and when she saw Killian she began to scream.
“I saw her, Killy! The ghost! The blood, the blood, the blood . . .”
Orderlies ran in and grabbed her before she could lunge from the bed. She fought them tenaciously, her back arching and her eyes rolling back in her head.
“Ivory runs red, ivory runs red. He’s dead, he’s dead.” She started to laugh maniacally as one orderly managed to get a syringe into her veins. They wrestled her to the bed and strapped her down, but she continued to speak, her words slurring. “He’s dead, dead, dead.”
She arched her back one more time, mumbling about ivory and red, shaking her head back and forth. Then she began to say the rhyme they had learned as children, singing it to a morbid little tune.
“When ebony flashes gold, blood runs cold. When ivory runs red, you’ll be dead.”
Killian felt the blood rush from his head, leaving his skin cold in the sterile room as he watched Belle’s breaths even out. He knew the kinds of drugs running through her veins, God did he know. He also knew no one would believe her.
Mike Gaston was dead, and Killian couldn’t muster a modicum of grief.

I have a very dumb question about quilts; so once you have all the squares planned and laid out, do you just like sew them together? And is there a special quilt stitch or something? And then what do you do about the back bc I assume you don't want all the messy stitching and flaps and stuff just out for all to see, and would it be the same process for the more complex quilts that have pictures on them?
Hey! Not a dumb question at all, I tend to skip a lot of steps in my progress pictures. This is going to be a long explanation, so I’ll put it behind a read more.
Everyone probably has their own version of quilt making techniques, but I personally stack up each row, left to right, and use a clothes pin to clip a piece of paper with the number of each row to each stack. Then I take a stack to my sewing machine, and sew the top two squares together, unfold them, put the next square in the stack on one edge, sew it, and continue like that through the whole stack until I have a row complete. Then I repeat it with the rest of the stacks to make all the rows. Once I have all the rows complete, I put one row on top of another, pin it in place, and sew along one edge. Then I unfold, add another row, and repeat until the entire quilt top is done.* A quilt top is not a finished quilt, even though it has all the squares sewn together. The next step is making a quilt sandwich (for real that’s what it’s called): you lay out the backing fabric (which is what’s visible on the side of the quilt that won’t be the side you just sewed together) right side down, then the batting (the fluffy-ish stuff inside a quilt), and then put the quilt top on top, right side up. You awkwardly crawl around on the floor (if you’re me, anyway) trying to make sure there are no wrinkles or folds anywhere in the bottom layers of fabric. Then you pin all three layers together. I use safety pins but I think there’s some sort of specialized pin that exists? From there, you take the completed quilt sandwich to your sewing machine. I think there might be a few different schools of thought on where to start actually quilting a quilt, but I like to start in the middle and work outwards from there. You’ll have to fold or roll up the edges of the quilt and put some muscle into maneuvering it around because quilts are a lot bigger than sewing machines. You can do decorative stitches, or freehand swirls, or draw hearts with stitches, or pretty much whatever you want.** I personally have only done what is called “stitch in the ditch” which is where you sew the quilt sandwich along the seam lines from sewing the squares together to make the quilt top so that the quilting isn’t visible on the quilt top, but you can make really pretty art with that. You can also hand quilt (aka hand sew the quilt sandwich together) or use yarn ties instead of sewing, but I haven’t tried either of those yet.  The last step(s) are taking your quilted quilt sandwich and trimming the backing fabric and the quilt batting and adding a binding around the edges. You’ll either trim them exactly to match the top or a bit bigger depending on which binding method you want to use; I’ve only made self-binding quilts, where you leave the backing fabric a bit bigger than the quilt top, fold it up over the edges and sew it down to cover the edges of the quilt sandwich. The main other method (as far as I know) is sewing bias tape/contrast fabric around the edges, but I’m fuzzier about how to do that.  All these instructions are about making a basic patchwork quilt with just squares sewn together for the quilt top, but as far as I know it’s pretty much the same method for other quilts. There’s just more steps because you have to make the blocks first instead of using premade squares, which can involve sewing together triangles or rectangles or all kinds of stuff. There’s a different method called paper piecing that’s more complex, but I think it's pretty much the same just more intricate? There are also quilt patterns that are essentially just one giant “block” instead of blocks sewn into rows and rows sewn together. Quilting can be as complex or as simple as you want it to be, and I gotta admit I like making the simple ones lol *this description leaves out, like, a LOT of ironing. There is so much ironing in quilting. Gotta iron at like every single step ** As far as I know, there’s no specialized quilting stitch. I just use a straight stitch for the entire quilt. By decorative stitch I meant like those stitch patterns on sewing machines that can make a row of cats or hearts or zigzags or whatever, but for sewing the quilt top together I’d just use the straight stitch.

Corset-Making Chronicles: Part 1
Since I've been doing a lot of sewing recently and posting the finished products, I thought I'd document my endeavors to make a corset.
Ok so first off, I have to disclaim that I have never made a corset before and I'm probably (definitely) not doing this the historically accurate way. This is happening primarily because I happened to fall down the 3am youtube rabbit hole of historical costuming and found myself very much wanting to try my hand at it. (That, and I made this really pretty circle skirt a few months ago, but the only shirt/blouse I own that matches it does this very annoying muffin-top thing when I wear it, so I thought a corset worn over it would help make it NOT do muffin-top things. So this is meant to be a modern fashion corset thingy, not historically correct underwear.)
I'm not following a commercial pattern because I don't have one, and I don't even have instructions for drafting a corset. I only have me and my stupid engineer brain that decided it wanted to do this all from scratch with only the materials and very rudimentary methods I have at my disposal. That is, I'm designing it myself, and the whole thing is going to be hand sewn. Because I don't own a sewing machine.
Another disclaimer: I actually didn't need to make more than one mock-up. That's because I made a dress earlier this year for my friends' wedding (might show pictures if my friends send me some because I didn't take any at the wedding at all), and the bodice of that dress was based off a pattern that I took by tracing an old dress that I own that I know fits me snugly. I still had the pattern from that, so I only had to omit the unnecessary bits from the bodice pattern and then I had the pattern I needed for a corset.
Anyways, I made my pattern and traced and cut out the pieces. I found this heavy pale pink canvas fabric that will make up the inside, and this pretty floral fabric for the outside.
Tumblr media
The canvas layers are cut out twice (not shown above), since they are going to make the boning channels by having the bones of the corset sandwiched between them. Then I flat-lined the floral fabric to one of the canvas layers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^basted with pad-stitching and then running-stitched them together just inside the stitch lines, and then removed the basting threads
Tumblr media
^flat-lining compete. I know the back panel on the left is super wrinkly in the picture, but I touched it up with steam and an iron and it was fine. I'm lowkey really proud of how neat the running stitches turned out, since I was kind of disappointed with the ones I did on my wallet. In a shocking turn of events, your stitches end up looking neater (instead of looking like you were trying to beat the fabric into submission) when you use a smaller, thinner needle 😱😱😱
Next step is to sew the panels to each other.
Tumblr media
jk I got distracted by my cat being cute 😍
Ahem.
Tumblr media
^The ugly thing on top is the inner canvas layer, with a strip of cotton twill basted in as a waist tape. The basting stitches will come out later once I put the whole thing together and stitch in boning channels.
Speaking of putting the whole thing together, that's what I'm trying to do now but it's taking an unreasonable amount of time, so I guess there's going be a Part 2 to this later.
Still to come are sewing in the boning channels, adding boning, binding the edges, and punching in eyelets. I'm not going to put a busk into this because 1) I don't have a busk and 2) I actually like the look of lacing in the front. I think I'm going to make the lacing in the front purely decorative, and have the laces in the back be functional. I'm not a fashion historian by any means, but from what I have seen, typically front lacing is seen on stays, not corsets. However, this is supposed to be a modern fashion piece, not a period-accurate undergarment, so if I want lacing in both the front and back, then I get to put lacing in both the front and back.
Anyway, if you enjoy seeing nice flat panels and perfectly pressed seams, now is your chance to look away because things are about to get super wrinkly and bunchy as we get into putting in boning channels.

Hand sewn skull mask! Because if death is coming for us all we may as well be jaunty about it!
(feat. me trying to do normal person selfie poses while wearing a mask that looks like a skull got the pox)
This should theoretically work as a practical mask, since it has two layers of fabric plus interfacing, and does go under the chin, but as always, no promises. Be sensible, stay home if you can.
Pattern and instruction under the cut.
The pattern is available here as a six-page PDF for US letter sized paper, but it should also print fine on A4 paper, since it has fairly generous margins. There are limited instructions and layout diagrams included in it, so you really only need to print pages 3-6.
I highly recommend making a paper version of the lining to check on the sizing, as this mask tucks up under the chin more than the Plague Doctor Mask did.
For this version of the mask I used about a fat-eighth of fabric each for the outer and lining, and a bit less than that of heavy-weight non-woven fusible interfacing. The embroidery was done using four strands of regular sewing thread, and the assembly was about half hand-sewn and half machine-sewn.
The contrast areas of the nose and the mouth can be either pieced or embroidered. If you choose to piece them, I strongly recommend piecing them by hand. I show a technique similar to English Paper Piecing here, that uses fusible interfacing to help hold the shapes while you hand sew..
First, trace and cut the interfacing pieces, going by the guide in the pattern as to whether you are piecing the face or embroidering. Fuse the interfacing to the outer fabrics with enough space between for seam allowances, and cut each piece with seam allowances.
Tumblr media
If you are embroidering the nose and mouth, sew together the face and jaw parts using the techniques below, and fill in the shaded areas of the nose and mouth with whatever stitch you prefer.
If you are piecing the nose and mouth, fold the seam allowance of the curved side of the nose piece to the edge of the interfacing and loosely tack it down. Clip the inner curve of the face piece where the nose goes and loosely tack down the seam allowance of that piece. I use a piece of masking tape on the back to hold the nose piece in place, and then hand stitch the two pieces together using a slip stitch (also known as a ladder stitch) from the front.
(Note: the reason the pieces look completely differently sized in the top left photo is that I was holding the face piece up closer to the camera. It fits neatly together as per the top right photo.)
Tumblr media
Carefully remove the masking tape, trying not to pull too many threads, and unpick the tack stitches. Unfold the seam allowance of the nose piece outward over the clipped seam of the face piece, and sew it down using a running or other decorative stitch. Repeat for the other side.
Tumblr media
Clip, fold and tack the top edge of the jaw piece. Align the interfacing corner of the lower pointy part of the mouth piece to the place it fits in the jaw piece, and pin to fit. From the front, slip stitch the two pieces together, and stitch the seams down the same as for the nose. Do the same to join the mouth piece to the face piece. Repeat for the other side.
Tumblr media
Sew the centre seam to join the two face pieces together, and embroider the teeth. For some reason I forgot to take photos of the embroidery at the top and bottom of the teeth, and the continuation of the running stitches above and below them. But they are all just aesthetic things that that you can see on the finished one.
Tumblr media
I also forgot to take a photo of the top pieces being assembled, but they are pretty straightforward – join the five forehead pieces together according to the layout on the pattern, and do the same decorative top-stitching as for all the other bits.
Join the top forehead piece to the face at the top of the nose between the eyes and down each of the cheeks, and do the same decorative stitches.
Tumblr media
Join the chin piece to the bottom of the jaw. The outside piecing is done!
Tumblr media
Trace the lining pieces onto the fabric, and sew them together according to the layout on the pattern, so that it matches the shape of the outside. I pressed the seams of the face open, but not the chin, because that would have been too hard.
Tumblr media
Pin the straps to the sides of the outer, facing inward, and put the lining over the top of it so that the right sides are together. Stitch around the outside edges, and clip the curve on the underside of the chin. Turn the whole thing right side out through one of the eyeholes, flip the lining into the outer, and top-stitch over the edge.
Tumblr media
Trim the eyeholes and baste the two layers together. If you are putting in effort, I would suggest cutting bias binding from your outer fabric and neatly hand sewing it around the eyehole edges. But I just basted it and used the machine to do a zigzag satin stitch around the edges in a thread that was a pretty close colour.
Tumblr media
You can leave the eyeholes empty, but it is spookier when your eyes are hidden. I coloured in some very loose weave linen with fabric markers to match the fabric I used for the mouth and nose (roughly, I did pretty a bad job), cut it into circles and sealed the edges with some glue, and hand sewed them in, hiding the hand stitches in the zigzag stitch. The visibility is actually pretty good!
Tumblr media
And there you go! Skull mask!
Tumblr media
From left to right, Poxxie, Paisley (who is not actually paisley), Patchie, and their friend Fredrickson Paperman.
As before, I am not going to charge anything for this pattern, nor am I going to place restrictions on what you do with the items you make. I do not control your right to profit from your work. All art is derivative, and you making your own version transforms this pattern. Don’t let assertions of intellectual property rights be another way you are alienated from your labour. If you decide to sell your work, demand fair remuneration for your time and skills. Someone offering to pay for the materials is not enough. If you have decided to take an activity you love and turn it into work, make it worthwhile.
On the flip side, please don’t try to sell this bit of writing or the PDF of the pattern or these photographs. They are free for you and for everyone else. Resist society’s message that you should try to profit from your every action, and especially resist the notion that true success is achieved by profiting from anyone else’s labour.
If you want to discuss this stuff further, I would love that! I am researching the commodification of creative knowledge for my PhD, focusing on quilt patterns and designs. Message me @mctreeleth on tumblr and instagram or @sarasewsstuff on twitter for my uni email.
And if you do make one, tag me in it or send me a picture! I love seeing them!

Sewing a Duck Bill Mask: A Quick Handy Guide With Photos
I’ve had a couple of requests for a guide to how I make the masks I’ve been wearing and selling, so I sat down and made one while taking pictures. This is for a “duck bill” style mask (also known as a Fu Mask) which does not have pleats but does have a generous nose pocket. The original pattern came from Make Masks 2020 and you can find the pattern here, but I have made several modifications.
Instructions below the cut! Sorry for mobile users.
So, in the pattern linked above, my original template was the largest size on the last page, with a 1/4″ seam allowance added onto that all the way around. That’s what you see here on the right.
Tumblr media
However, the one on the right proved to be just slightly uncomfortably small for a lot of people, and I had a friend who wanted a wider chin so he could speak easier with one on. So I created the template on the left, which added some length to the height of the mask and the width of it, and slightly curved out the round “nose” side more. I’m afraid I don’t have a pattern of it handy because I basically just traced the original and made my mods freehand, but you can see the differences in comparison pretty clearly. Don’t be afraid to test out a few freehand trials, since all your pieces will be the same size anyway.
I find using a piece of thick cardboard as a pattern is easiest; I put the template on the fabric, trace around it with a marker, then cut out the shape. I flip it over and trace and cut again for the second piece, and so on. (I actually do a complicated maneuver involving several careful folds, but we won’t get into that.)
Essentially, to start with, you are cutting out four pieces of fabric using the same template; two with the “nose” facing one way and two with it facing the other, so that when flipped their “good” sides face each other. These four panels will make up your mask.
Tumblr media
You place the panels with the “good” sides facing each other because you’ll be sewing it inside-out and then reversing it. To start, each set of two panels gets a single seam on the curved “nose” side:
Tumblr media
It will end up looking like this:
Tumblr media
The tip of the scissors is pointing at the nose seam. Remember if you’re using fabric with a pattern oriented a certain direction, the curvy bit is where your nose will be and the longest straight side is the bottom of the mask. Orient your template accordingly.
You can trim the excess from the nose seam if you want; it isn’t absolutely vital but can be helpful later.
Tumblr media
Then you’re going to take one of the two pieces you now have, it doesn’t really matter which, and turn it right side out:
Tumblr media
now tuck it between the two pieces of the one that’s still wrong-side-out, to make a sort of sandwich:
Tumblr media
Make sure you snug the two nose seams up as close to each other as you can. It likely won’t be perfect.
Tumblr media
Now open both pieces like a book. You will create a “pocket” where the nose seam is, and that’s ok, just pay attention to which side it’s on. Note that the long straight edges on the bottom are at a slight angle to one another -- that’s normal and how it should look if you’ve folded it open properly.
Tumblr media
In this one you can see that the “pocket” is on the right side of the fold. So I’m going to sew two seams on the left side of the fold first, where the pocket isn’t. First the bottom seam, starting from the middle and going outward:
Tumblr media
Then the top seam, starting from the middle and following the curve of the “top” of the mask, so that eventually I have half the mask sewn together like so:
Tumblr media
Note that the short straight edge opposite the nose pocket is not sewn together; that’s where the ear loop will go, so we’re not sewing that yet. It’s just the top and bottom for now.
Now you need to flip the nose pocket so it’s under the part you’ve already sewn. You’re not turning anything inside out, you’re just moving the pocket-flap so you’re not sewing the top to it. Then sew the other two seams, again starting from the middle, so eventually your mask looks like this:
Tumblr media
You can see at the bottom of the right side that the fabric isn’t completely aligned. As long as the blue fabric and pink fabric are reasonably flush with each other inside the seam, that doesn’t matter; it just happens sometimes in the course of using two dimensions to sew a three-dimensional object. Do not panic, just trim it if you want to and go on with life.
So now you have what is basically a lumpy fabric tube; both ends are open, so you can turn it inside out, rather like a sock with the toe cut off:
Tumblr media
Aw, it’s a butterfly.
Make sure you tuck one nose seam inside the other, and run your fingers along the edges of the open ends to pull the fabric all the way up to the seam. For some of my clumsier ones I use an iron, but usually you can just push on the seams and it’ll flatten out into something that’s starting to look more masklike. Take a very blurry photo. :D
Tumblr media
This next step is 100% optional and by far the most difficult part; it’s the central nose seam, which binds the two pieces together at the center and adds structure to help hold the mask away from your face even as the edges lie flush with your skin. Open up the mask but don’t flatten it, so it forms a sort of cup, and press the two nose seams (pink and blue) together as you sew a seam up either side of the center from bottom to top.
The fabric will remain curved in front of and behind the machine’s “foot”; don’t try to flatten it, it’s meant to do that. Just do the best to keep the bit directly under the foot flat and smooth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is where I am most likely to screw up and cause wrinkles, little bunches, etc. These are cosmetic and don’t impact the mask particularly, but I always try to have the “front” of the mask -- the side people will see when you wear it -- on the inside (the pink, in this case) because the wrinkles and pouches are more likely to show up on the part you can’t see while sewing (the blue).
Tumblr media
Not perfect, but serviceable. Phew! As I said, that step is not mandatory, your mask will work perfectly fine without it, I just like the look and it does help hold the mask away from your face a little.
Now you’re going to address those open, unsewn ends. Take the raw ends and tuck about 1/4″ to 1/2″ inward on both sides so that you have a nice neat edge:
Tumblr media
You can see how the pink and blue are tucked in against each other, as opposed to the raw blue beneath them on the other end of the mask, which hasn’t been tucked yet.
At this point you can do a number of things; you can sew in laces you tie behind your head, for example, or elastic tape that goes over your head. I use everyday hair elastics in a couple of different styles as ear loops.
Tumblr media
The one in the middle, which is thin rolled nylon, is my elastic of choice because it’s the right mix of broad and stretchy. These are known as Scunci brand “hosiery ponytailers”. The one on bottom is heavier and less inclined to stretch but is more available, at least in Chicago (I can get a bag of 50 for $7 a lot of the time). Both are 2″ diameter nylon hair ties available at most places that sell hair accessories (the scunci brand I get at Target, the generic one below it at a local bodega). The one at the top is not ideal, but you can get like 20 of them for $2 at Walgreens and they’re not awful. Just make sure that whatever kind you use, your needle is sharp enough and they are soft enough for the needle to pass through them easily. You will need two loops, one for each side, snipped once to open up the loop.
Tuck the ends of the elastic into that neat clean edge you’ve made on the end of the mask, then carefully sew a seam on the outside of the mask, over and through the elastic. Use a small stitch to ensure that at least one or two stitches pass directly through the elastic itself. You may have to shove it a little to get it under the foot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you’re fashion-forward, make sure you’re using a color that will compliment or contrast with the fabric. I like using blue thread on warm fabrics, orange thread on blues and purples, and green thread on greens, whites, and blues.
Turn the mask over, do the same tuck, elastic, and seam on the other side, and your mask is complete!
Tumblr media
It seems like a lot of steps, but once you’ve done it, it’s relatively straightforward. Have fun and keep masking!

The Years That Passed and the Years Past (Part 2)
Tumblr media
back by popular demand because i had WAY too many sad steve rogers fangirls on my page and we can’t let that happen😅... so here’s your part 2 where i’ll fix some dumb steve crap, and you can read part one here! so @heyiamthatbitch @lovely-geek @vesta-ro @yn-the-reader @ladythena @itzelreader , here you go! anyway, i hope you all enjoy!💙 (beginning dialogue is not my own, it is from the avengers: endgame script. thank you!)
Steve and Bucky hugged each other in front of the platform in the forest. The sun was still shining and it was a beautiful day.
Tony’s funeral was finished and it was now time for Steve to return the Infinity Stones where they belonged so time and history wouldn’t mess itself up.
Steve and Bucky broke their embrace and Bucky looked at his best friend with his sad blue eyes.
“Gonna miss you buddy,” he whispered.
“It’s gonna be okay, Buck,” Steve reassured his best friend. Bucky smiled softly, knowing that very soon things weren’t going to be the same.
He turned and began to walk into the platform where he would travel through time again. Bruce pushed buttons and flipped switches on the control panel as Steve mentally prepared himself.
Steve pushed the button and his time-traveling suit formed around his body as he gripped the briefcase containing the precious stones. The mjlonir was at his side and he stood still and solemn.
“How long is this gonna take?” Sam asked skeptically.
“For him as long as he needs, for us five seconds,” Bruce replied.
Steve turned around slowly and grabbed the mjolnir, looking through the trees over to Tony and Pepper’s house.
“You ready, Cap?” Bruce asked.
Steve sighed nervously and nodded as Bruce messed with more controls. He was about to reunite with the love of his life and he was scared?
This was all going to work out.
He had spent time and effort thinking about and making this decision.
It was what he wanted, and this was going to make him happy. A life with Peggy Carter, the love of his life.
Right?
The sun shined on him through the trees and he closed his eyes for a brief second.
“Alright, we’ll meet you back here okay?” Bruce replied as the machine started to rev up with a high-pitched whir.
Steve stood there for a minute before allowing the helmet to form over his head. Images of you and Luca flew through his head.
Luca was his son, his little mini-me and someone who loved and looked up to him.
Luca was your’s and Steve’s.
You.
Steve thought about how perfect your relationship used to be. How much joy you brought him. The way your (Y/E/C) eyes lit up when you met him, and how your smile gave him butterflies.
You and Steve had made this child who he just met, and was now going to abandon?
He wasn’t going to let that happen.
“You bet,” Steve said back with a new motive. The helmet formed over his head and with another whir and a zap of light, he was gone.
Bucky stood there in his warm jacket and watched the place where Steve once stood. He was gone now and it would be different when he returned.
Bucky thought about you and Luca. How was that little boy going to make it through life without his father who was ripped from him? Bucky knew you were strong and could take care of your boy by yourself, but it just wouldn’t be the same.
He sighed and looked up for a minute. Maybe he could fill in for Steve? Not like that of course, but he could help Luca through life? Bucky wanted to cry.
Bruce counted down from five, and suddenly Steve was back where he stood. Bucky’s eyes widened and he stepped back, shocked. Sam smiled and nodded with satisfaction because as far as he knew, this was supposed to happen.
Bruce began to happily shut everything off after the successful mission and Steve ran off the platform to Bucky.
“Steve?” Bucky gasped as he eyed his best friend with concern. “Weren’t you going to-?”
“Buck, I can’t do it,” Steve confessed. “(Y/N) and Luca are my life and family, what was I thinking?” He put his hands on Bucky’s shoulders.
Bucky stared with wide blue eyes into his best friend’s blue eyes filled with conflict.
Bucky nodded and Steve sighed before quickly turning around to look at Sam and Bruce.
“Great job, Cap,” Sam complimented. Bruce nodded in confirmation.
“Yeah Steve, that was great-“
“Look I have to go,” Steve said urgently, gesturing his head up to the direction of the Stark residence. Sam stared for a moment with squinted eyes, then shrugged.
“O-Okay, whatever you say man.” Sam replied casually. Steve glanced over to Bruce before taking off into the opposite direction.
As he ran through the trees he thought of the life he could have with you and his son. His son who he loved and needed to be with.
Maybe it wasn’t too late.

You buckled Luca into his car seat quietly. You had let him meet Morgan and you had discussed play dates with Pepper. You let him meet Clint’s family and his kids were delighted to meet him. Cassie Lang had even volunteered to ever be a possible babysitter if you needed one in a bind. Peter Quill had mesmerized your boy and Peter Parker made him laugh.
Despite all his new friends, Luca longed for his dad.
The sun shined through the windows of your car and warmed Luca. You watched a tear fall down his soft cheek as he looked down sadly. His blue eyes were watery and his face was beginning to flush.
You frowned and sighed; Luca wasn’t the only one who wanted Steve.
You kissed your boy’s head before walking around and climbing into the driver seat of the car. You ran a hand through your (Y/H/C) hair and closed your eyes for a moment.
What a whirlwind these past couple of weeks had been.
You started the car and began to drive away from the scene. You checked on Luca through the mirror and saw his sad little face that couldn’t help but choke you up. He wiped away tears with his small fingers and sniffed.
“It’s a bit of a drive home baby, you can go to sleep if you’d like,” you inquired softly. He continued to look down.
“I m-miss Daddy,” he whimpered. You felt your eyes water and turned on Luca’s playlist with lullabies and his favorite songs, not wanting your son to see you cry too.
“I do too Luca... Try to go to sleep,” you said caringly. He nodded and slumped down into his car seat, closing his eyes and inhaling shakily.
You still couldn’t believe what Steve had done, even after meeting his son. His son! You shook your head and focused on the road. Bucky would always be in contact, you thought. Bucky would do anything for you.
You let your mind race as you drove through the backroads towards home.

By the time Steve had gotten back to where everyone gathered, you were gone. He clenched his fists in frustration and ran a hand through his hair.
He looked around the area and was trying to piece together an idea of where you may be heading.
He knew he had to get back to the compound to try and figure out where you were currently living.
If Steve was going to dedicate his life to you it needed to start today; and he wanted to.

It was about a thirty-minute drive from the Stark’s to your house. By the time you pulled in front of your complex, you were exhausted.
You checked in the mirror to see your baby boy sleeping in his car seat, his blond tufts tussled about. You rubbed your (Y/E/C) eyes and sighed, unbuckling and getting out to grab your son.
The sun embraced your body as a cool breeze blew your hair back. You opened the car door and gently unbuckled Luca and picked him up.
Luca laid his head against your shoulder and gently grabbed a few strands of your hair, a comfort-habit he’d had since he was a baby.
You walked into the lobby of your complex and waved at the bell boy. You walked up to the elevator and pushed the button to your floor.
Once you were in your apartment, you took off Luca’s dirty clothes gently as he slept, leaving him only in his Mickey Mouse underwear. You tossed them aside and laid your boy on your bed and covered him.
You sat beside him a second as you stroked his soft blond hair, admiring how much he looked like Steve.
You kissed him and quietly slipped out, pulling the door slightly closed behind you.
You walked over to your couch and collapsed on it, falling asleep from exhaustion before you could even set any alarms to wake yourself up. You deserved this though.
You deserved a break.

After frantically speeding back to the compound, Steve began to open all of your data and record files.
Full name, birthdate, hometown, parents, occupation... Nothing on current whereabouts.
Not even with all the advanced tech that Tony left behind could he begin to piece together where you might be.
He would’ve asked Nat for help, but she wouldn’t be there to do that anymore...
Steve searched his brain for any trace of where you could be. The past couple days had be so chaotic he couldn’t remember where the team picked you up to recruit you again.
How the hell could he forget something as important as that?
He paced back and forth, holding his hands tightly behind his back and growing angry with himself. He then stopped abruptly with wide blue eyes.
He remembered the day he had helped move you out of your old apartment and officially into Avengers Tower. The day he was just trying to help the new recruit.
Though that was long ago, it was the only shot he had.
Grabbing his keys he made his way to his car, getting ready to go drive just outside the heart of New York and to the nice little complex where you may or may not have been located.
Whatever it took, he was going to find you.

You were able to sleep for about a good hour and a half before you were woken by giggles and extra weight on top of you.
You smiled and opened your eyes to meet Luca’s bright blue ones right in front of you. Happiness danced in them as he laughed again and wrapped his arms around your neck.
You hugged him tightly and tickled his belly which made him squeal. You pushed back your tangled (Y/H/C) hair and stretched out your legs.
“Did you have a good nap, Luca?” You asked nicely as he nodded. He jumped off of you and presented to you that he redressed himself...
In his blue Captain America shirt with bright orange shorts (that you were pretty sure were backwards) and just one neon green sock.
“Mommy I dressed myself!” He exclaimed proudly, doing a little turn to show you. You smiled while stifling laughter, not wanting to hurt his feelings; he made a decent effort.
“You did! Look at you!” You replied and stood up and picked him up. You twirled him around and kissed him all over his face. He laughed and you patted his back as you set him back down.
“Mommy is still in her clothes from earlier, maybe she should get changed then we can eat.” You winked. Your boy jumped up and down enthusiastically.
“Let me help you get clothes mommy!” Luca grabbed your hand and started to lead you to your room.
“O-Oh, okay...”

Steve pulled up to the building you apparently lived in. It was a nice little complex, small, but you definitely needed a steady income to afford it.
He climbed out and walked in, his nerves starting to get to him.
The bell boy smiled at him nicely as Steve walked up to him.
“H-Hi, does (Y/N) (Y/L/N) live here? I’m an old colleague,” Steve explained quietly. The boy stared for a moment then smiled.
“You’re Captain America...” He said. Steve nodded and the boy grabbed Steve’s hand to shake it.
“Thank you so much for everything you’ve done, m-my family wouldn’t be back today if it wasn’t for you,” he said in gratitude. Steve nodded as the boy rustled around and grabbed a key.
“She lives in 14B,” the bell boy said. Steve sighed and ran a hand through his blond hair.
“Thank you,” Steve said breathlessly and ran up the stairs to get to your floor.
He stood at your door for a moment and inhaled. He could vaguely make out your voice and his son’s squeals and excited voice.
He inserted the key into your door.
After Luca had helped you change into a very stylish outfit of your red Avengers logo shirt with your bright pink sweatpants, the two of you scrolled on your phone for a place to order takeout from.
When the two of you heard your doorknob jiggle you looked up and Luca held onto to you tightly.
And before you could do anything else Steve Rogers stood in your apartment with a relieved expression.
His blond hair was no longer neat and his blue eyes pierced into your (Y/E/C) ones.
“Daddy!” Luca screamed and ran across the room to hug him. Steve knelt down and embraced his son tightly.
You stood up with an open mouth and tears in your eyes. Steve squeezed his son one last time before standing up and looking at you as a tear fell from his eyes.
Luca stood to the side of Steve but his smile didn’t falter. You ran up to Steve and kissed him passionately, him wrapping his arms around your waist and you putting your hands on his cheeks.
He picked you up with lips still connected, then set you down and slowly pulled away to admire your gorgeous face.
Your gaze never broke away from him as though you were afraid that if you blinked he would leave once again. He swiped a tear from your eyes and gently grabbed one of your hands to kiss it.
You hugged him again and buried your face in the crook of his neck.
“I-I thought I lost you,” you whispered shakily.
He was never going again. Feeling your touch again and seeing your beautiful face, the way you gave him butterflies and a reason to keep going on in life. He couldn’t ask for more.
“I’m not going anywhere, (Y/N),” Steve reassured softly. He rubbed your back and gently tugged you away so he could kiss you again.
“I love you,” He said softly with a smile and those dazzling blue eyes. You hugged again, and Steve felt a small tug on his pants.
He looked down and saw his baby boy Luca still smiling up at him, reaching up in a gesture to be picked up.
Steve chuckled and reached down to hoist up his mini-me. Steve kissed Luca’s soft cheek and smiled at him.
“Daddy are you going to stay?” Luca asked. Steve glanced at you with a smile and looked back at the bubbly boy in his arms.
“Yes Luca, and I promise to be here for the rest of your life.”
“Infinity and always?” Luca asked. Steve tussled his son’s blond hair as he giggled.
“Infinity and always,” Steve replied.
Steve set Luca down as Luca ran over to the couch to begin a grand tour of your not-so-grand apartment.
Steve held your hand as the two of you followed Luca.
“(Y/N),” Steve started. “Not to start off our new life like this... But who dressed you?”
You laughed and shook your head.
“Welcome to parenthood, Captain America.”
