finally picked up my held copy of The Archive Undying from the library and holy SHIT i didn't realize it was so thick. It's nearly 500 pages long!

All I've done so far is skim the Dramatis Personae, but it's already caught my imagination like wildfire. AI as "autonomous intelligence," with names like "Register Parse" and "Qualia Clear" and "Fun-size Exaltation in Perpetuity," names which SLAP and which also make me wonder if Emma Mieko Candon is a listener of Friends at the Table at all. I then went to look at the Acknowledgements in the back to see, and got my socks blown off by the beauty and intensity of this prose:

I came to this book after a succession of surgeries. Strategic evisceration had revitalized my body, but flesh doesn't care if it's been cut for a good reason. To flesh it's just a wound. Recovery made me more keenly aware of my limitations than I had been even at my most enfeebled - the brain needs calories to make language happen, and those calories were required elsewhere. Even then, I didn't know this was a book about bodies until well into the third draft. I had to get far enough from the site of impact to properly perceive the crater.

God damn, y'all. If the book's writing goes even a fraction as hard as this then it'll fucking rule. WHO is doing it better than mecha fiction writers!!

i just saw someone say that "the vast majority of the userbase is complaining" about tumblr's recent layout change. i see this a lot after a change: people complaining about it (sometimes without saying what about it is bad, making it sound like either it's self-evident (it usually is not) or just that it's bad because it's change and change is always bad) and saying that everyone else is complaining about it too. i don't know how to tell you this but a) you don't follow every user on tumblr so how can you possibly know what "everyone" or "the majority of users" thinks about anything and b) ONLY THE PEOPLE WHO FEEL VERY STRONGLY ARE TALKING ABOUT IT!! people who are not bothered are not spending time posting about how unbothered they are! please look up "selection bias" and stop making me read this nonsense with my own eyeballs.

Welcome to my first post.

My name is Davey Wreden and I typically use Cakebread as my nickname. However, someone had already taken that username, so I had to improvise.

I hope to get more feedback on one of my games, The Beginner's Guide. In short - it's an antology of my friend's games. Coda hasn't created a single game since 2011 and I do hope to still bring him back to the game devs work. I myself have published a game and received overwhelmingly positive responses but I'm not here for myself.

I'm doing this for him.

What brought me to this platform is a good feedback system. I've been on Twitter and Facebook for a whole but none of them has the anonymous ask feature this platform does. And while I do think scrapping someone's identity from their own words seems a bit counter productive, in some cases, that can bring the needed courage to say your thoughts. That's why we use usernames instead of our real names on the internet, anyways.

I also like the reblogging feature. It seems way better than having a work be reposted - since the original creators lose feedback this way.

That's why I'd like you to use the ask feature if you have any thoughts you feel are worth sharing about the game. Please, if you write your own reviews of this game, do tag me so I can tell you my insights.

Watching Andor and rewatching Rogue One for the first time in awhile had rebelcaptain soaring above all my other Star Wars ships in terms of personal rank. In my heart, no other Star Wars ship can compare to Jyn & Cassian. They never even kissed or "were together" but the connection they had was so strong. The way they gravitated toward each other and the way their expressions showed everything they felt about the other is enough for me to make them number one.

I love to imagine all of my Ryan F/Os sitting in a little room in my head and chilling out and hanging out with each other. Even the ones I haven't "met" yet (movies I haven't seen but will eventually)

This ask reminds me of the tags on this post specifically because... so true. not enough people are brave enough to make him as weird and gross as he is.

I mean, looking at his actual room is like...

it's not "that bad". right. this is a teenager's room. but it's noticably a little messy? and of course a lot of this can be attributed to the fact that he wasn't raised by anybody and is therefore very pragmatic about his environment (e.g., why would I make the bed if I'm just going to mess it back up later?) (IMO a lot of this could be said for Roxy as well, like... her room is equally as cluttered...these kids have no PARENTS to come in and tell them to clean up after themselves).

Overall I think he would be a clean person & very meticulous in, like, only certain respects... he's the type to have a very high tolerance to very certain types of messes. his "organized chaos" except it's even weirder than the generally understood concept of that. certain types of actual garbage do not phase him while others he needs to get rid of immediately and it doesn't make sense to anybody but him. I'd imagine it's largely a sensory experience for him, or at least that would be his basis for what bothers him and what doesn't.. it isn't like he's lazy or idle or anything liek that, he's just got a specific vision of what his environment does and doesn't benefit from.

I imagine he categorizes taking care of himself like this too but with the added concern of like...if for some reason he might be seen or otherwise encountered by someone meaningful to him, that would be a concern. i think any iteration of him has this feeling of pretending to be human in one way or another, somehow in my mind that is very linked to the physical practices of personal grooming and presentation.

assassin's creed april fools game set during the trojan war. maybe you've got a set side (probably the achaeans) maybe it's like odyssey where you can play both sides of the war. anyway the second you do anything important zeus sends athena down to kick your ass and kill you so you can't mess up the gods' manipulation of the war

a more serious idea for the game is maybe you work for the gods. they help use you to turn the war as you wish and sticking with the sorta many choices thing of the rpgs maybe you get conflicting orders from gods on either side of the war and it's up to you to decide which ones to listen to and which ones to deny. obviously with the trojan war being a complete story there is only one ending which i like more than multiple endings anyway but having gods you can piss off might make it kinda fun. do you die with the trojans or do you sail back home after a hard-fought war with the achaeans? idk i just think it could've been fun if that was the ancient greece game we got sjgdjdg

I adore your sims and the way you create narratives. They're all wonderful and your style is so gorgeous. I was wondering if you had any recommendations for more realistic details, like scars, cuts, burns, just any sort of thing along those lines. Finally gave in to the urge to ask after seeing your post captioned "Family Lineage".

Your sims are so alive, the last sim is so cool and i love how you embrace features.

Do you have go-to creators for those sort of details, or are there any sliders or any specific cc pieces you recommend? I'm not sure what to really call those sort of features, 'imperfections' doesn't feel right to me, they are a part of oneself and they deserve love too! So I hope this makes sense?

okay, so as for recommendations... i'll just start this off by saying that my skin details folder alone is 45gb... so. there's honestly too much for me to rec everything, but i've got my mods folder open right now so i'll just go through the main contributors here.

this got a little long so i'll put a little read more here to save the mobile users some grief fkhnkfjh

as just like a general baseline for cc, i'd download everything from @obscurus-sims, @sims3melancholic, @ddarkstonee, and @northernsiberiawinds. these are my favorite skin detail creators and i promise you every single sim i make is guaranteed to have at least one piece of their cc on. i won't mention them in the recs from here on out, but they all have some of what you're looking for!!

then i'd download the color slider mod before getting into the actual skin details themselves, because there's still a lot of cc that doesn't have appropriate color swatches for darker skintones and i have to use the color slider mod more than i'd like in order to get scars or other cc of that nature looking right.

now okay, so for realism i'd say you're going to want to download wrinkles, eyebags, veins, body overlays, and facial structure overlays. most of my realism cc is from faaeish....... but well. you know what happened there. i don't know if there's an archive of all their old cc, but if there is you'll want to download decades, chubby cheeks, and structure. nolansims, gerbitshi (nesurii), and simulationcowboy have some good wrinkle cc! and i really like using okruee's misc. skin detail cc for the last few swatches which add wrinkles. nell has some face veins i like to use on my older sims to add to the look of thinning skin as they age. sammi-xox and moonchildlovesthenight are for body overlays—so like, if you have a fat sim with a skin on that you like but the skin is just, like, supernaturally jacked for no reason, you can use one of their overlays to fix that. thank god. my facial structure folder is full of remussirions' blushes and contours as well as goppolsme and nesurii!! marigolde and mari have good stretchmark cc. OH!!! and download acne cc! breezytrait's acne scar cc is actually REALLY good for giving the effect of pores and aging skin. i used it on matthias's father!

as for scars, burns, birthmarks, etc.! with scars i just googled scar cc and downloaded everything even if the previews looked bad lmao. but nell is my main creator for scars. they make the best scar cc hands down and i might be misremembering, but i'm pretty sure their scar cc works very well with the color slider mod. pyxis and redearcat also are all over my scars folder. if you've seen alessandria, she's literally covered in redearcat's scar cc. mintyowls has really good eyebags and birthmark overlays. adelarsims and pinkpatchy have some body prosthetics and limb mesh edits i like, though they're not very functional </3

almost forgot to look at my presets but i believe nv-games will have what you're looking for in terms of any larger scars. WAIT. sorry, i'm only just now looking at this but if you saw my tags on that last post ignore them!! matthias's father actually uses nv-games' eye preset! i totally thought it was [redacted] who made it. but anyway, nv-games also has more presets that you should look into as well. they have really unique cc. love them fr.

onto face sliders!! i don't have a ton so i can just post a pic of the folder for you. just kidding totally didn't realize that the screenshot showed the sliders i have from [redacted] so pretend you didn't see that.

based on the nature of your ask tho, i'm definitely gonna recommend the face asymmetry slider by luumia (i like to use this veeeery subtly but go wild with it if you want), the esotropia and exotropia slider by obscurus as well as their eyebrow slider which allows you to disrupt the symmetry of them, the thicc slider by hiland which adds fat under the chin, the mouth scale slider by teanmoon for bigger and fuller lips bc fr what was ea thinking with their lip slider, and dani-paradise's cheek slider!
