#i love the way these are stylized :0

:0 how do you draw re2 and re4 leons faces? Is there a difference?
If you look side by side, there is :D!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My work is really stylized, so what I rely on is his most recognizable features. Hair and eyebrows!
Re2 Leon has shorter hair, and his eyebrows aren't as low.
Re4 Leon has longer hair, and his eyebrows are lower and cast a heavier shadow.
TW GORE!! (sorry)
Tumblr media
re2 short hair plus a bit rounded face
re4 hair is much longer, and eyebrows almost cover the top of his eyes
(But usually it comes down to clothes they wear....)
Maybe also I would say I love expressing character through their pose and overall atmosphere of the piece. So in my head, those both variations of character have mostly different demeanor and posture, so I try to show that too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
re2 re4
And that's really all for me personally...
Hope it explains a bit my way of thinking, and thank you for asking :)

Genuinely I would give anything to hear your thoughts or read more critical analysis of yours on other webcomics writing (*slides you Marionetta* I like the webtoon but there are some things in the writing that I'd like to see be discussed critically more often but the fandom focuses way too much on shipping. sighs..)
Anyway, you probably have been asked this before but are there any webtoons in particular you would recommend? :D
Oh lord, you don't know how many times a week I get asks in my inbox asking for my opinions on webtoons they're reading. It's really sweet that people wanna hear me talk about other works outside of LO, but unfortunately I just don't have the time to read as much as I used to, even keeping up on LO lately is getting really difficult 😅 I'm definitely keeping a list though of works to check out!
That said, I try not to read series on the basis of criticizing them because frankly I just... don't want to spend time reading something if people are only looking for me to rag on it? 😆 Of course I know that's not the only reason, I know there's also just the element of seeing me talk extensively about other works the way that I do with LO, but it's not really something I can turn on and off like that, I have to get really into a series to want to talk about it to that extent. So it often comes down to just luck of the draw :'0
Right now the series I'm keeping up the most on (or have completed and would absolutely 100% re-read):
Alfie (18+, it's porn with plot but the plot is REALLY GOOD , I SWEAR LMAO the art is gorgeous, the characterization is IMMACULATE, and it ironically tackles the subject of purity culture way better than LO ever has lol)
Theia Mania (the creator is often in my comment section / neck of the woods, she's been working on an Abduction of Persephone retelling for a long while now and has also tackled other myth retellings in her style! I always love seeing new pages of her work in my feed :' ) <3)
Tales from Alderwood (if you like fantasy and comedy, this one's great, the plot's really starting to get interesting and it's just got this really great sense of humor about it)
The Black Parade (this one's REALLY interesting, it's a comic-stylized version of My Chemical Romance's The Black Parade, using the songs as narration and sometimes even dialogue to tell a visual story, it's really cool and the art matches beautifully with the lyrics and style of MCR!)
A Tale of Two Rulers (this is a Legend of Zelda fancomic that poses the question, "What if Zelda and Ganondorf got married to solve their political crisis?" It updates a lot slower than most of the other comics I follow but the art and writing is so worth it <3)
Dogs of Future Past (and p much all of Lynx's Undertale comics which can be found in the link, seriously, THESE are the comics you wanna read if you wanna get into Undertale fanworks, they are PEAK)
Tamberlane (this one's an anthro comic, I normally don't read anthro but this one actually gripped me by the throat, the art is gorgeous and the character arcs so far have been great!)
The Mafia Nanny (okay it's legit so funny that I'm including this one here but I've been reading it the last couple days after seeing it basically beat out LO at the top of the trending tab for a couple days, so I figured I'd give it a shot, at first I was like "great more tropey shit" but the more I read it the more it's actually started to get pretty good, I'm holding out and hoping to god it stays that way LOL it's not especially deep or anything like that, but it's really fun and cute to read and the shipping of the main character within the narrative isn't too self-absorbed which I can always appreciate, I'd honestly be 100% fine with it if it didn't turn into a romance)
City of Blank (I talk about this one a lot here, but it's one of my favorite Originals right now, the art is super polished and the writing has gotten INTENSE, go check it out if you want some fun action / sci-fi storytelling!)
Time and Time Again (a time-travelling vampire and his werewolf boyfriend get into all kinds of misadventures, what more could you ask for?)
Touch of Divinity (like the Mafia Nanny, this is one I just started reading, it's got a very interesting premise so far and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes!)

I really like your style. Was it intentionally designed, or did you just sort of fall into it over time?
I wouldnt say I intentionally designed it, as in I haven't sat down and Engineered a specific style, and instead it was more of me finding what I liked and wanted to incorporate into my style.
You could probably trace my style back to its influences. I used to draw really round shapes (I still do but like they were just ovals and circles...I guess i just like that shape) until I started watching How to Draw Anime tutorials in middleschool T-T (shoutout to Mark Crilley lol)
But when I first joined social media back in 2016, I found all these crazy artists with really unique styles that really influenced me. I was drawn towards artists like star_bite/prince_canary and rawrgyle/grassflu who have very dynamic expressions and character poses :0 (also they ended up working on a Batman and Superman project respectively and how wild is it that my icons from forever ago now work on projects aligned with my current interests!!!) And as you get exposed to different artists you get exposed to the many ways you can Draw things and along with your natural affinities towards certain things (such as me being attracted to Bright and Bold colors and Shaped styles) you kind of naturally build a style.
And part of that is also just having fun Trying things out? Sometimes I wouldnt even try to emulate their style as much as I tried to just...do what they were doing? As in making my ocs and putting them in fun poses, and doing color palette trends and such etc.
I hope that helped! If you're curious I can break down some of my style checkpoints over the years. As you can see there was still some major anime influence in my style back then when I first joined social media around 2015/2016
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Around that time, I also discovered the fandom around the Cartoons popular at the time, so I drifted away from anime and drew things like gravity falls/steven universe/otgw etc etc so it got Rounder I guess. I really liked how stylized characters looked and got obsessed with Shape Language and assigning characters distinct Shapes (box vs triangle vs circle etc). I also read a lot of webcomics and stuff like that so those played a part I guess
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then around 2019 I saw more artists drawing anime fanart with really sharp angles, which was completely different but so cool to look at so I tried to incorporate more angles into my art. I still had that very cartoony style but tried to push the Sharpness a tad bit more if you can tell. (I think the name of the artist I liked was jeluto?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think around this time I also focused a lot more on color as well and did a lot of paintings then and whenever I did more Painterly stuff I tended to switch Styles into something Less Cartoony T-T
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then by 2020, I revamped my ocs, actually tried to break down and study my own style and how I would draw them, and my style kinda fell into a mix of round vs sharp edges I guess. I tried to give myself Rules which I would follow when stylizing a character to keep it more consistent and intentional.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then in 2021 some of that Fun Part of stylizing characters into something more Cartoony kind of took a backseat as I focused more on Pose Work and Body Expression instead which I think helped a lot :0
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here's some recent stuff from the past year! Still very cartoony, but less so than 2016 I'd say, and still using really bold colors!! Still love my Soft Vs Hard angles B]
And overall have stronger pose work :) I'm sure my style will evolve as I learn more and experiment more, because one thing I want to focus on is backgrounds and environments :0

And last but not least, Celebrity AU with Genderbend Zero and MC/Alice, preferably with Bodyguard AU undertones since I missed my chance with that one
Aaaaand the last one!! Here you go Krys, thank you once again for the wonderfully paired prompts and characters! I loved them all!

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
safe in your arms
Turning the key in the lock in a haste manner, Alice leans against the door (totally not barricading it with her own body for extra measure), raising a thumbs-up for Zero.
"See, Miss Zero? You're home safe and sound, and not one fan stalked us here!"
Before Zero can sigh and believe the words of her novice bodyguard, she tenses up, sensing a pair of watching eyes from somewhere.
Alice lets out the world's quietest scream as she strides to the window to close the blinds. She flashes a thumbs-up at Zero again.
Zero remains with her hands on her hips, caution sharpening her deep blue gaze. It's not that she's disappointed with Alice. After all, she barely needs a bodyguard, being more than passably skilled in martial arts... still, her idol company insisted on hiring one, and here she is.
Alice is... not all that bad to have around. It's a much preferable company compared to Zero's other group members. Though she worked hard to become a part of HEARTS*ARMY, the so-called Ace of Hearts continuously fails to understand how she's got so many fans when she's standing next to top idols like the others. Tonight's concert was a blast once again, and Zero can't help but recall with fascination the way everyone cupped their hands in the form of a "0" to show their support during her solo.
"I got the lollipops you asked for, Miss Zero!"
"Watch out!"
Snapping out of her thoughts just in time to prevent a disaster from happening, Zero saves the fall of a careless Alice who stumbles onto the coffee table. As if it wasn't always there...
"Oh- Um-"
Alice finds herself in Zero's arms, suddenly presented with an unexpected chance to look at her favorite idol up close. Zero's enigmatic looks with her trademark blonde hair strand in her still stylized from the show hairdo, her orange make-up, her shiny white uniform... all of this do things to her head that render her unable to speak, much less to stand up and put an end to this clumsy accident.
Zero sighs, smoothing down the lapel of Alice's black bodyguard suit before carefully lifting up the pair of sunglasses to the top of her head as well.
Which gives Alice the wrong idea of where this is leading to, and she almost faints. Good thing that Zero is already supporting her body.
"Maybe it would be better if you remove these while we're inside, Alice... And I already told you to just call me Zero."

Rating Go Rush's cat designs (Because I felt like it)
Tumblr media
Cat Yuga is a 10/10 because he is my son and I love him. He resembles my old Warrior Cats OC and gets an automatic pass because he's my son. My post my rules. Shut.
Cat Yuhi is a 7/10, kinda weird they chose brown of all things as the main colour but I can tell at a glance it's him and he looks good. I'd pet them both.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cat Yuamu is an 8/10. She looks like a real cat, just with her usual accessories. I like that. I'd pet this kitty.
Cat Chupataro is cursed but definitely resembles him. 6/10. Wouldn't pet but gets points for looking like how I'd picture an alien cat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cat Manya is horrible. I couldn't even tell it was her (prolly cuz I just don't like her) and she's also just really fucking ugly to me. 2/10
Cat Bochi is hilarious though. I love that so little has changed, it's pretty much just the ears and whiskers. That's peak. 9/10
Tumblr media
Cat Yuna is a 0/10. Kuaidul, what the actual fuck did your weird ass relic thing do to our daughter? She looks like the kind of thing my furry sibling would tell me is furry bait. UNDERAGED furry bait. HATE IT.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cat London is good. 7/10. Looks like him but also looks... subtle in a way. Like apart from the stylized colour and hair, this could be a real cat. Would pet.
And Cat Mitsuko was uh...
One of the only parts of this episode that I remember laughing at when I first watched it. Not very cat-like but decently funny. 6/10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cat Asaka is a 5/10. I could barely tell this was her but she doesn't look... overly cursed. A bit too femme but it could definitely worse.
And the MIK cats are actually perfect. Look at them. Those real cats with sunglasses and they're wonderful. 10/10
Tumblr media
And these fucked up Bridge creations who I refuse to give any of my braincells to are 1/10s. Not as bad as Yuna's cat design, I guess, but please never show me these three again.
Oh and Nyandestar counts for this I guess?
Tumblr media
Yeah, she's great. 10/10.

VOON (분), stylized as V00N, is a 5-member girl group formed by Big Hit Music (part of HYBE Labels). The group consists of: Eunjoo, April, Y/n, Sora and Mingyu. They debuted on January 12th, 2019 with their first mini-album ‘DiSTRiCT ZERO’ and title track ‘FANCY’.
🐇ꐚ YOON Y/N : ﹫i4Minghao
O4 liner, main dancer, lead rapper, sub vocalist. literally THE8's biggest fan (and simp). got chased down by a street caster and only agreed to audition because he offered her tickets to a svt concert. she jokes saying that she never took a bath after the day that minghao hugged her but some people believe it 🙁. basically the whole kpop industry wants to be friends with her </3 V00N's stand-up comedian. ⅓ of the menace maknaes.
🐑ꐚ PARK EUNJOO : ﹫homophobicdog ⠀ ( choi yena )
OO liner, south-korean, leader, lead dancer, sub vocalist. trained with y/n for almost two years. tired leader & compares herself to dave seville from alvin and the chipmunks. goes to therapy with soobin from txt once a week. extremely patient and calm — hence the sheep emoji. pulls the leader/unnie card at any given moment. taught mingyu on how to be homophobic 💀 V00N'S last braincell.
🦝ꐚ SHiN APRiL : ﹫mayjunejuly ⠀ ( kim minju )
O2 liner, korean-canadian, fotg, main rapper, sub vocalist. trained with y/n for a year. that one stereotypical gay artsy kid who probably was bullied in middle school. loves sora an unhealthy amount. really shy with strangers, but once she gets a chance to talk she won't shut up. hitoka yachi kinnie & V00N's fake maknae.
🦕ꐚ PARK SORA : ﹫sosorara
O4 liner, south-korean, lead vocalist, dancer. was a trainee with y/n since 2017. stayc & dinosaur enthusiast. #0 txt hater, always tries to make them call her “sunbaenim” but it never happens. extremely loud and bubbly, looks like she's high on sugar 24/7 (by the way, she can't be trusted near any sweets ‼️). V00N's happy virus & ⅓ of the menace maknaes.
🐈ꐚ CHEN MiNGYU : ﹫thenormalmingyu
O5 liner, chinese-japanese, main vocalist, center. trained with y/n for eight months. lucifer personified. when pledis was acquired by hybe, (kim) mingyu made a joke on vlive about him now being hybe's better mingyu. (chen) mingyu started hating him that day and never stopped doing so. judges sora a lot and says that her reason to hate txt is lame. fought almost every 4th gen group for random reasons. only listens to eunjoo. acts like she hates y/n but cuddles her to sleep every night. Warden Ingo Cosplay Build Log
Hey Legends Arceus / Submas / Pokémon fans ! I spent two months last year making a Warden Ingo costume because the game made me fall in love with the franchise all over again (and because I love sad amnesia uncle, of course). I'm pretty proud of it, so I thought it'd be fun to share the process here in painstaking details. I've been cosplaying for over a decade now and I learned a bunch from so many defunct cosplay tutorials on this website, so I thought I'd give back. This isn't a guide, persay, but rather a dive into the methods and decisions I picked to complete this project. Any pre-made items or patterns that are available online will be linked! I'll be splitting down each piece of the costume into its own section for easier reading. This is gonna be a long one with a bunch of pictures, so I'd suggest viewing on the blog directly! Without further ado, all aboard!
Station 0: The Guidelines
Before getting into the build itself, I wanted to preface this wall of text with the guidelines I set myself for this project. These core pillars inform a lot of the decision-making, and some people might feel like using this log as reference for their own cosplays, so I thought it'd be good to put them here to explain why I did some stuff the way I did. Comfort first: I knew I was gonna wear it in the summer, and stand around all day at a convention, so it needed to be lightweight and comfortable. (well, as much as a cosplay can be, anyways.) Realism: Ok, that's kinda weird to associate "realism" to a Pokémon costume (unless you're Detective Pikachu I guess), but I wanted to look more natural instead of translating a shiny fancy 3D model straight to real life (nothing against that, it just wasn't my goal). This meant adapting certain elements that only really worked in stylized Pokémon graphics. Be a huge cheapskate: I didn't wanna break the bank with this one, so if I could save money thrifting or reusing stuff I had lying around, I was going to do it. Whenever you see me pull some material out of my ass that wasn't entirely fit for the job, that's why. After putting these down, jotted down a battle plan for the project (basically just a huge compartmentalized list of all the material I expected to need and the steps to complete the costume), and then it was time to get to work.
Station 1: Thrift Shop Pit Stop
Tumblr media
I like starting every project with a quick trip to the local thrift stores to see what I can find. I hate sewing pants with a passion, so my priority was to grab some navy suit pants to match the coat's fabric to later. I also found a long sleeve black shirt for Ingo's undershirt, a belt I ended up not using, and lucked out with some excellent clown shoes with removeable insoles. After slapping in my own insoles, replacing the shoelaces and fixing up the pants' button, we were good to go on every element that could be done without any extra work on my end. Moving on.
Station 2: Three Refined Metals For A Hat
I'll be honest here: when I initially planned out the entire project in my notebook, the hat was scary as hell. I had no clear idea how I was going to do it; I didn't really want to buy a similar pre-made hat cause roughing it up would've been stupid hard to get to look right. I figured I could probably make it out of EVA Foam (a certified cosplay classic), but I've never patterned a shape this complex before. Turns out Kamui Cosplay made a foam pattern for the same kinda hat. Score! I purchased the pattern and assembled the hat using 6mm EVA Foam and Contact Cement according to the instructions. I then destroyed some poor polyester cord trim from the bottom of my scrap bin and glued it into the base for the... sticky-outies? The damaged bits. Y'know.
Tumblr media
With the base finished, I drafted a pattern for the fabric covering, cut my pieces out of navy twill, sewed it up and slid it over the hat. I did the same for the inside with some cheap black muslin leftovers from another project, glued it all to the base in strategic spots, and then patterned, sewed and glued the band on. Finally, I took my seam ripper and scissors and opened up the seams where the little piles of sad polyester scraps were lining up to free them. With the main part of the hat complete, I cut up a disc of 10mm EVA foam for the insignia, scored the design on with a hobby knife and heated it up to form a bit of a curve. It was then sealed with flexbond, painted and sealed with a clear coat, and glued on! All that was left after this was weathering the hat. It's a little hard to photograph this piece properly, so I'll show the weathering process when we get to the coat.
Tumblr media
I apologize for basically pulling a "rest of the fucking owl" here, but honestly a lot of the process was improvising and somehow not destroying the entirety of my progress, so I have no pictures of the hat building process beyond this.
Station 3: Sneasels Ripped My Coat
Ingo's coat started with a heavily modified version of a commercial pattern. Specifically, it's the D Coat from Simplicity's 4789. I could've probably found a pattern closer to the Subway Bosses' coat design, but this one had already been in my pile of "patterns I bought for an abandonned project and will totally use someday, I swear" and it was close enough, so I used it. Modifications included extending the collar, making the coat a little longer in proportion to my body, the sleeves wider at the ends, and adding inner pockets (a cosplayer's best friend). Oh, and the white bias tape on the edges and the orange stripes, of course. You may have noticed I'm not showing the pattern with all the modifications here. That's because as part of the Cheapskate Protocol, I really wanted to use this old Simplicity pattern to save money. A pattern I bought when I was a teen way back when. the misses sized pattern enveloppe. So I had to size up the entire damn thing. The biggest size on this pattern was like 7 inches off my measurements. It's a paper Frankenstein golem. It looks godawful. The actual adjustments to make the pattern Submas-ready are incomprehensible in there. But hey, I saved like 10 dollars! I started by assembling the base coat (undamaged) out of navy twill. I added heavy interfacing in the collar to help it stay up. I considered adding a lining to it to really sell the fact this used to be a modern machine-assembled piece of clothing, but it wouldn't have looked as good with the rips and tears later on. As a bonus, it's one layer less in the fight against heat exhaustion! However, if I were to make this coat for Pre-Eeby-Deebied Ingo, I'd definitively do a lining.
Tumblr media
Next step was the stripes! I used some double fold white bias tape to finish the edges of the coat and topstitched the ones on the back of the coat on. I then used the same orange cotton as the hat band for the three orange stripes, which were topstitched on. Cheapskate Protocol made me buy barely enough orange cotton this time around because I was tired of building up the pile in the fabric scrap bin, so I had to improvise to make it work by snipping the bands in strategic spots in order to cover to whole coat properly. It's not like the parts that would be cut off later for the damage would need them, anyways. ✨Optimization✨
Tumblr media
After rolling my rock up the hill of a Hell of my own creation, I booted up the game, dragged my avatar to the Ingo enclosure and marveled at the magnificent creature to see where the coat was ripped. I traced a loose guide of the tear designs with washable fabric chalk and crudely cut up the bottom edge, sleeves and collar to have the basic shape down.
Tumblr media
All that was left was to add the armband and the buttons. Turns out the only metal buttonsI could find that were big enough were those buttons kits to cover with fabric. Since I wanted to go for realism here (and be able to throw the whole thing in the wash after sweating in it all day), I wanted to avoid crafting them myself. With the main construction done, it was time to do the weathering! ... ... ... OH GOD I FORGOT TO ADD POCKETS
Tumblr media
Behold, the world's most awful pockets. Two stupid little bags sewn in such a way you hopefully can't tell from the outside that I completely forgot that I wanted these. They literally only exist so I can have my phone handy at a convention. There's a buttonhole to close it too, I guess. They're shamefully hidden with all my lining-less, raw seam sins. Ok now we can destroy the coat
Station 4: Stinky And Dirty
I mentionned earlier during the hat section that I was going to get back to the weathering process. This is happening now. For the sake of Realism™️, I wanted the damage to look natural in real life, so I had to make it look believable. Luckily this wasn't my first rodeo with the Dirt, so I had plenty of weathering experience under my belt. To break up the awkward scissor cuts from earlier on the edges and fray everything up, I pulled out the sandpaper and started... Sanding the fabric. Might sound weird to some, but a lot of costume makers swear by it. It's also great for ripped jeans (if those are still popular today) and general natural wear. I also refined the shape along the way with scissor to break up any long straight cuts before fraying the edges. I took care to reinforce any newly destroyed seams with a sneaky staystitch so it doesn't unravel in the future. I then mixed up a bunch of different shades of brownish grime with fabric paints (I had black, brown, yellow, orange and green on hand) to dirty the whole thing up. This doesn't look as realistic as some other methods like weathering powders and Just Using Real Dirt, but as mentionned earlier I wanted to be able to just throw it in the washing machine at the end of the day to sanitize it. (If you're interested in actually learning how to weather a costume, this guide is where I started my journey.) I prioritized the ripped edges and any spots where grime would realistically accumulate in over time, like under the edge of the hat band. Paint was dabbed, stippled and rubbed on with whatever garbage tools I could find, which in my case were some old crusty brushes, sponges and toothbrushes I could get really violent with. (brushes were harmed in the making of this costume, but not my good brushes.)
Tumblr media
The whole thing was then sealed with heat using a flat iron as per the fabric paint instructions. With the coat done, all of Ingo's old Subway Boss uniform was complete!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Station 5: A Warden's Garb
Next step on the list was making the Pearl Clan uniform. Thankfully, there's a fun little piece of concept art that shows Ingo without his signature coat, so from it we can confirm that his clan outfit has short sleeves (good for the comfort goal) and consists of two pieces: a tunic and some kind of hip sash. I omitted the hood on the tunic because I was realistically never going to wear it up and it would have just bunched up under the coat anyways. Now you'll be painfully aware of that terrible corner cutting truth whenever you scroll down and see photos of the costume. Sorry. I drafted out a quick pattern for both pieces of the clan garb through the power of math for the sash (a couple half circles with another piece for the border) and tracing over a tunic in my wardrobe for the shirt. I assembled a test version out of scrap muslin to make sure it worked properly, then set the pattern aside so I could prepare the fabric. In order to have all of the tunic elements match together, I picked up a bunch of white stretch knit fabric and a bottle of purple synthetic dye so I could reach the shade of dusty lavender I wanted. I measured out two squares of fabric based on the pattern. One square was for the darker border on the waist sash, while the rest was the lighter color for the whole outfit. I boiled water according to the dye instruction and worked on my Fabric Soup.
Tumblr media
With the fabric dyed and washed, I cut my pattern pieces out and assembled everything together. Nothing special happened there since the pattern had been tested and adjusted prior to sewing the real deal. Ok, one thing happened actually. My sewing machine absolutely hated how thin this fabric was and kept trying to eat my costume. By the end I was about ready to throw the machine out the window, but things worked out.
Tumblr media
It's pretty sneaky and totally not visible on the outside, but the sash is held closed with two snap buttons on the front. It's easily the single jankiest piece of the costume due to the aforementioned attempt by my sewing machine to have fabric dinner. But hey, it works and the jank isn't visible so who caaaares (I care)
Tumblr media
Final step for the Pearl Clan outfit was adding the logo on the front. I wasn't sure how I wanted to do this, at first, but to keep the fabric's stretch and keep with the idea that this is a hand-sewn garment from old Hisui, I decided to go with hand embroidery. I grabbed some scrap white cotton, dyed it purple, then cut it out in the shape of the logo. It was then painstakingly applique'd to the tunic by hand with embroidery floss.
Tumblr media
With that done, the tunic was completed! It looks absolutely depressing on a coat hanger, but when worn with a belt it's all nice and cozy. As a bonus, it layers with the coat well enough that I don't have to wear a binder under everything to hide obvious boob shapes. Another win for the Comfort team! 👏 With all the sewing done, all that's left is the Warden bracelet and the hair.
Tumblr media
Station 6: Noble Sneasler's Cool Bling
Ingo's got a bestie bracelet of his best pal Sneasler, so we gotta make that. The build should be pretty standard to anyone that's made anything out of EVA Foam for a cosplay. I drafted the pieces by referencing the in-game model, cut them out of different thicknesses of the material to create some depth, and glued everything together with contact cement and hot glue. (The main bracelet is 6mm foam, the details are 2mm foam and the black parts for the base of the head and the gem are 4mm foam.) I added an elastic on the wrist to keep the bangle secured to my arm while still being able to easily slip it on and off.
Tumblr media
The whole thing was then sealed with flexbond, painted and then sealed with a spray clear coat. Honestly, it was the simplest part of the build and it actually went without a hitch this time around.
Tumblr media
With the accessories done, it was now time to get to what I am convinced is every Submas cosplayer's worst nightmare: The Goddamn Hair.
Station 7: The Goddamn Hair
There's a lot of artists credited as character designers in the credits of Pokémon Black & White (2010). This means I can't figure out who to blame for Ingo and Emmet's stupid sideburns that make absolutely no sense in the real world. Instead we're just going to scream at the heavens and find a solution to the geometric flaps. Another fun fact: I'm awful at wigs. Like absolutely awful. I understand the methods involved, but I'm stupid bad at applying that knowledge on an expensive mop of plastic hair I don't want to ruin. So I did some research to figure out how people were making the twins' hair on their own cosplay. Everyone did a great job, but it wasn't really the effect I was looking for, so I decided to start from scratch. Because, you see, I was going to completely avoid styling a wig. I've always interpreted the art as them having some sick sideburns/muttonchops. (This art piece by waltias on twitter was posted like a week after I finished my cosplay and I felt so so validated in my interpretation) I also love Makeup FXs, so I thought "hey, I can look up beard makeup tutorials." I ended up with two ideas: either I could buy crepe wool hair in grey and glue the fibers to my face individually every time I put the costume on, or I could make a reuseable prosthetic. I'm a lazy piece of garbage that likes doing things once so prosthetic it was. I mean, I know how to ventilate wig lace. It'll be reusable and take 4 minutes to apply. Smart! I got the Jett in Light Grey from Arda Wigs, a ventilating hook, matching wefts and the lace. I had a plan, I was ready, it was going to look great. And then I spent 40 hours tying individual strands of plastic hair on a wig lace mesh. For a total surface area of maybe 3 square inch.
(Pictured above: A Fool.) It was hell. I might've incurred a stress injury from the process and then had to let it rest for a week because I did it all over a couple days. Would I recommend doing it? If you're patient, sure. I love the result. But this was, by far, the worst part of the entire project. 40 hours. The entire coat took me like 6 hours. 40 fucking hours.
Tumblr media
After painstakingly tying individual hairs to a mesh and realizing I might've reached the Ninth Circle of Hell along the way, I took my couple squares of ventilated wefts and trimmed them to the proper length. The result was awesome, and I don't regret it at all. It looks exactly how I pictured the idea of sideburns would look like. But it also took 40 hours of me just tying some fucking hair to a mesh. Maybe there was a better solution, but there's so little ressources about the process online that I just went with the methods I could find, really. I pray someone starts offering squares of pre-ventilated wig lace someday so no one else has to suffer like I did. As a sidenote, I didn't even bother with the balding hair since I wasn't gonna go through all the effort of heavily modifying a wig and wearing a bald cap if I wasn't even gonna take the hat off.
Tumblr media
40 hours.
Station 8: Bits And Bobs From Under the Subway Bench
Honestly, after the absolute nightmare I went through making the sideburns and goatee, The final touches were a cakewalk. After all, the costume is complete! What's next? Warden Ingo uses Pokéballs like a cool guy, so I wanted one. I usually make pretty much everything myself for costumes because it's fun, but after the ventilating adventure I just wanted to rest. I'd been following NisuzCraft's work for a while now, and I loved the wood grain effect on their Hisuian Pokéballs. I wholeheartedly recommend them, their work is awesome.
Tumblr media
As a final touch, I grabbed some red cord I had lying around from a previous project to craft a little loop to hook my convention badge onto. I don't really like having the badge show up on photos, so it was a clean way to have it easily accessible while having it be easy to slide out of sight. I based the idea off of the knotted ropes the Galaxy Team member hang their Pokéballs from on their uniforms.
Tumblr media
Lastly, though it's not necessarily part of the costume itself, I made an overly indulgent ita bag panel for the first con I took Warden Ingo out to. The collection's grown since then, but here it is:
Tumblr media
Chandelure: JellyBearDesigns Ingo & Lady Sneasler: AstroTeenyArts Warden Ingo, Emmet&Ingo Duo: Cynniarts Ingo & Emmet with fingers crossed, Hanging Ingo, Emmet & Warden Ingo: Zhampip Rubber Straps: Official Pokémon Mate Merch Go show them some love!
Terminus: You Have Reached Hisui Station
So, first con wearing Warden Ingo came and went. What's the verdict? Pretty great experience, honestly. It was relatively comfortable to wear despite record heat in the middle of summer. The only real issue was that having a wig and a hat together trapped heat real bad, therefore some wig breaks were needed. I also initially used spirit gum to stick the facial hair on, and I struggled to remove the residue afterwards from the lace mesh, so now I just use body tape to keep it on. Nothing broke, nothing hurt, so I'd say it was a success! I haven't had to modify or repair anything for the future, so I'm very proud of the results. To anyone who read this Build Log to the very end, thank you so, so much for your interest. I hope this may have given you some insight into the process; especially if this helps your in future cosplay projects! If you don't cosplay, I hope it was still an entertaining read.
Tumblr media
Hoping to see more wonderful Submas cosplays in the future!

4, 7, and 14 for the Httyd ask game :0
4. What is your favourite type of dragon and why?
I can't narrow it down to one, but my top three are probably: Deathsongs, Stormcutters and the Boneknapper
Deathsongs because they remind me of rainwings from wings of fire (my first dragon media obsession) with the bright coloring and ear frills as well as the amber being vaguely reminiscent of the acid rainwings spit.
Stormcutters because I absolutely adore Cloudjumper. The way he moves (owl + dog like body language) is incredibly fun to watch and his design is gorgeous.
And the Boneknapper because I had an obsession with the special as a little kid as well as having a one in SoD, iirc. Also, the concept of a scavenger dragon coating itself in an armor of bones is badass.
7. Do you have any OCs? If so, talk about their appearance, backstories, and personalities.
No, unfortunately. I've not really been into OC making since middle school. Not sure what happened, but I kind of lost interest and shifted to focusing on pre-existing characters 😭 I'd like to make a Dragon Rider sona one day though if feel the inspiration to.
14. Which part of the franchise has your favourite animation style?
The first movie era, hands down. The rough, somewhat bleak (in the beginning, at least) gritteness of Berk's scenery, the textures and lighting, Toothless' original design (Cat-like, sleek, very clearly built for speed over raw strength, you can literally see the dust in between his scales) and the original designs for the all the dragons tbh, they feel more.. textured and wild (which I guess makes sense. Later, while they're still, very much wild animals they've become accustomed to being cared for. But still.)
And with the human characters as well!!! I love how much personality their designs have alone; Hiccup has crooked teeth and so many freckles, Astrid has really choppy, greasy looking bangs that she's always shoving out of her eyes, Snotlout's actually missing a tooth, and most of the kids have like, visible dirt on their skin and clothes.
I love how 'imperfect' the designs for all of them are!! And like of course they are!!! Like these kids were training to wage war against dragons! Of course they're gonna be grimey!! I dunno, I just feel like a lot of movies/shows aren't willing to have that level of perceived realism in their character designs. Httyd's cast feels so real to me despite how insanely stylized some of the characters are, and its an absolute shame they seemed to have lost that in the later installments.
(Hiccup's teeth magically get straighter, his freckles fade, Astrids skin is no longer ruddy, her hair looks like it's been shampooed or something, her freckles are completely gone and that's just the second movie. As it goes on the characters' designs and the world around them feels less full of life and more like shiny, plastic figurines. Especially Toothless.)
All the first movie era stuff has just a completely different feel to it that the rest if the franchise hasn't been able to replicate
Anyways, tysm for the ask! I had a lot of fun answering these!!!

rating all of the 3d zim models on the modelers resource
(mostly copypasted from my priv twitter lol)
Nickelodeon Party Blast (2002), Nintendo GameCube, Xbox, PC
Tumblr media
this one is my favorite i think. hes so fucking cute. he looks so stupid. hes small. his head and eyes (his most defining features) look good. probably the only 3d zim model that accurately captures his Essence. 10/10 love this guy
SpongeBob SquarePants featuring Nicktoons: Globs of Doom (2008), Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 2, Nintendo DS
Tumblr media
ugly. hideous. hate this fucking thing. burn it. his head and mouth look weird and his eyes dont match his outfit. 0/10
Nicktoons MLB (2011), Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS
Tumblr media
honestly not bad. i like his little smile. hes stylized in a way that feels natural. my only nitpick is that he looks too tall. i like the party blast one better but thats just a personal preference. 8/10
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl (2021), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
Tumblr media
why the fuck is he shiny. its rly distracting me. i feel like i would like this model a lot more if not for that. also is it just me or does his top lip look weird. ALSO also ik this is bc of the way models r saved in the T pose (or the A pose in this case) but i do think its funny how huge his pak legs are LOLLL
on the bright side however, gir and minimoose r there too!! gir looks great and minimoose looks very silly and orb shaped. i may not be entirely fond of zims look here but im including gir and minimoose as part of the ranking and i do like them. i just wish zim looked better. oh well. 6/10
BONUS: Nicktoons Nitro (2008), arcade
Tumblr media
this one wasnt on the modelers resource but i felt i had to include it anyway bc it is a core memory from my childhood and one of my first exposures to invader zim. honestly hes kinda terrifying but in a funny way?? like.....i wouldnt let him near me but he is kinda cute and fucked up. 3/10 for the narm charm
anyway thats it hope u enjoyed my autistic rambling. have a trophy :)

Review for the Night-Bird’s Feather
Look, I’m not your typical reviewer of the Night-Bird’s Feather. I want to get this out of the way: I am not going to rave review about the deeper meaning of this story, in part because I’m just not intelligent enough, I think. But as a fond connoisseur of fairy-tales, even sometimes dark ones, and being marginally familiar with Dr Moran’s previous work, mostly from Ryuugi’s fanfic and Glitch, I bought the Night-Bird’s Feather.
I bought it on Kindle thanks to Prokopetz’ recommendation, having bought Glitch Version 0 beforehand (also on Prokopetz’ recommendation). I give the Night-Bird’s Feather 10/10 stars. 100/10. 2500 mechanical spiders/10. I will read it again at some point in the future on my Kindle, probably when there’s no data coverage, on the Tube, again, and spend half the trip reading and half the trip trying to figure out what the characters are saying when they’re not being incredibly blunt. I recommend that you buy it. I recommend that you read it. I don’t recommend that you comprehend it. Comprehension is not necessary for this anthology of connected fairy tales. In fact, arguably, it’s better if you don’t, and let the rhythm of the words wash over you and turn your brain off. Certainly the incredible over-stimulation and twisty layers made me feel like a child again, poking at a mother who is probably stuck in a heron’s egg, and definitely not capable of explaining what the bloody fuck is going on beyond the absolute surface layer.
This is not going to be a spoiler free review. I love it too much and comprehend it too little to dance around plot points. I have no criticism to give, because almost the whole thing went over my head, beyond the usual things where Dr Moran is absolutely brilliant at worldbuilding and scene-setting, having tied it in some part to the Bleak Academy, and the characters are, while mostly setpieces in the way that fairy-tale characters are, are also vocal mouthpieces talking in complex tongues, registers, and reasoning, regardless of physical or developmental age. Yes, it’s unrealistic and heavy-handed on the philosophical moralizing, but as I mentioned, I understood none of the philosophy, so I can’t and won’t criticize it. Since it also doesn’t seem at all out of place. The massive monologues are a part of the style and weave easily into the narrative. In any case, realism is not what you read Dr Moran or fairy-tales for.
The Night-Bird’s Feather is at once a combination of fairy/folk-tale anthology, in the way that linked fairy-tales are, and at the same time an examination of one central character’s life through time (literally through time in some ways), a legendary figure and/or matriarch of an inestimable family, where the matriarchy mostly happens off-screen. The reader is introduced to this matriarch in her founding, origin story, via a child of the family, and the rest of the cast of characters star in various, repeating roles as they move toward the child of the family’s personal present (for a given definition of present, given the nature of the bleak academy), a nest of stories, like scheherazade; but honestly the central linking conceit of the story reminded me the most of The Time Traveler’s Wife, had the perspective been centered on the time traveler rather than the wife.
The anthology has an incredible exploration into a very small number of characters: all of the relevant characters are introduced in the first story, and all of them are explored in great detail and are all very relevant. No additional mice, except for those family members locked in the initial egg, are introduced, which scurry off into the ether - the story ends when the central character has moved on to other things, and feels simultaneously finished in a nice neat bow and unfinished in a Wattersonian way.
The book, as a whole, is darkly beautiful, and very Slavic. I hadn’t read much Slavic fairy tales beforehand, so I can’t attest as to the stylization’s accuracy - the only one I know is Koschei, and that was a Britishized version for ages 6 and under, anyway. The prose is stunning - glittering and evocative, imaginative and lush, ornamented yet clear. It is a book which drips poetry out of every line, which I adore, and is simultaneously a clearly-understandable fairy-tale for children (if dark and mature - along the lines of Grimm - though in no part edgy - I think - nor with a focus on gore for the sake of gore), and a deeply meaty chunk of philosophizing for adults. It’s worth buying for the descriptive prose alone.
The book is also, on occasion, incredibly funny. Because it relies on subverting expectations of fairy tales, and the focus character is something of a guile hero given the stakes she puts herself up against, sometimes the characters make razor-sharp observations against expectations that absolutely shattered my sides.
You can - I certainly did - push the heavy cerebral stuff to the side, and just focus on the fairy-tale. There is a lot of it, and all of it is good. I think the heavy cerebral stuff actually adds something - in that in its exclusion, everything else is starkly, darkly emotional, kind of. But the tone is unrelentingly miserable, a drudging, if beautiful, tragedy by Westernized and flanderized fairy-tales’ standpoint - from what I have seen of Slavic mythology and fairytales, that tone is pretty much on point. With the clear cerebral philosophy + comedy, though, and all the time and dream travel, that makes it bearable, even addictive.
I read all of it in a single sitting. I understood almost none of it. I’d read my partner, if I had one, this story, before bed. We would likely dream lush, vibrant, beautiful dreams, like watching rain pour down from inside a cozy house, like we were kids again and ignoring all the really thorny problems of the world that only adults could see and comprehend. There’s a beauty in just being able to push it aside and admit that it’s just way too much for us. If asked, I’d be able to explain none of this book. I recommend it to everyone.

More complex and believable than an x, but still simple and stylized.
And the coloring! The expression! everything about this! he :0 and he looks SO GOOD!! your portrayal of him is top tier and I adore the idea of him discovering the wonders of human land. I don't know what he's discovering though...

i am going to have an aneurysm
(please note I don't mean any of this in a rude way and I apologize if it comes off as such 😭😭)
Hi yes in one of your little comics abt mekakucity actors (love your comics btw) you mentioned that you thought you might have been watching the series out of order and you're absolutely correct unfortunately
The anime most definitely is NOT a good place to start with the series considering that it is, to put it simply, pretty shit and has horrible pacing, along with the fact that the story had to be condensed into 12 episodes so it fails to explain a lot of things that were expanded upon in the novels & manga. The anime basically assumes you've already read both of the above & watched the songs which is fine ig but is not good for new viewers in the slightest
All I'm saying is plspls don't judge the series in its entirety too harshly based on the anime, 86% of the kagepro fandom has a deep hatred for the anime and I'm fairly certain that Jin, the creator the the series, has stated himself that the anime isn't actually canon (don't remember if I have a source for this). While the series definitely has its flaws (the weird time skipping shit that you saw in episode 1&2 occurs in the novels too with 0 explanation, and continues throughout the whole anime!! Hooray) it's actually really interesting once you have proper context for everything so if you find that you like the story by the end but didn't really understand it too well, highly recommend the novels or the manga (as well as the songs!! The songs aren't as straightforward in telling the story but they're definitely very cool)
Apologies for the long wall of text that probably doesn't make much sense it is currently 2 in the morning and I am running off of a pack of goldfish and a brownie
(and oh my god. Episode 9. I REALLY hope you aren't watching the original tv aired version because oh no.)
oh i know it's just the adaptation itself that's bad. there's an interesting story in here, it's just that shaft adapted it in the absolute worst way possible
to give a little peek behind the curtain, i've actually read the first couple chapters of the manga and was pleasantly surprised at how it actually told a story instead of just going through the motions of one while headtilting. meanwhile im five episodes into the anime and Guy C's name has only been shown to us in 1.5 seconds of stylized, onscreen katakana text that even someone fluent would have trouble reading in time
the songs are definitely good. i really like kagerou daze, and even the anime OP (just "daze" apparently) is really good too. im putting off listening to the others until my 12-episode ordeal is over, though
i am very much watching the TV broadcast version because i love to suffer. episode 4 definitely shows a dip in quality. but there's no way episode 9 could be worse than other things i've watched...right?

Rating Part I Sasuke Plushies
Tumblr media
Great Eastern 8″
Iconic big feets as standard for GE’s plushies. Colors look good. Clothes and hair are accurate to Part I. His eyes look like they’re pieces of paper taped onto his face. Not bad but not very cute either.
4/5
Tumblr media
Key Chain 3″
Stylized to match Shippuden ED 1 - Shooting Star. Mischievous looking creature. Will probably steal loose change and snacks from your bag/pockets. Not very good for cuddling as he’s very small and his smirk makes it feel like he’s making fun of you. Great to shoplift with though.
3/5
Tumblr media
Banpresto Tomonui 6″
I own a few plushies from this brand and they are cute but the material feels weird. Not very fun to handle but great to display. That being said, this Sasuke looks very kickable. I’d like to throw him around and beat him up. His face pisses me off.
4/5
Tumblr media
Banpresto 8″
Refered to as USED JUNK by seller. Not sure if better quality versions of this plush exist or if there was ever more than one in existence. I’d hope not as this thing is beyond infuriating to look at. I wanna bully him so hard he cries. Great to have around just to look at and feel better about yourself.
1/5
Tumblr media
Banpresto 12″
Another atrocity from Banpresto. They took the expression from the Shooting Star Sasuke and put it on a foot tall man. He knows he’s short so he’s looking up at you but he’s still way too cocky. I could easily stomp him to death but he continues to challenge me. Hair looks like a venus fly trap.
2/5
Tumblr media
Banpresto 13″
Refered to by a past seller as a “ fat-headed cutie”. Actually a rather pleasant looking lad. Very doughy looking. I don’t believe his shuriken would do much, if any, damage. He looks very happy to be here and seems he’d bring good vibes along with him.
5/5
Tumblr media
Banpresto 8″
Another cocky Sasuke, this time with Sharingan. Looks like he’s about to call me a scaredy cat. His hair looks very big but it’s not that big of a deal. Not sure he’d be good to hang out with, looks like he has rancid vibes. I imagine he smells like cigarette smoke.
4/5
Tumblr media
Banpresto 13″
Words cannot describe how infuriated I am just by looking at this lil shit. His cat mouth, his posh hand raised as if to cover his mouth. I’d like nothing more than to throw him in a dryer for several hours.
2/5
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Plush Slippers
Not exactly a plushie but they were too horrible not to include. I’d love to know who thought this was a good idea. I’ve never been a fan of plush slippers so adding the decapitated head of a fan favorite character does not make them better. I would like to pour milk on them.

for that art trademark thing, it's the way you draw the hands, eyes, and hair that sticks out the most. Just so... idk to describe it other then very you
I can totally understand all of these, and thank you so much! :0 💙 Also I LOVE how you describe that as very me hehe! I stylize the HELL out of these 3 things aidiwkfjr. I fucking love drawing hair and I love drawing eyes and I tend to go a little apeshit with it lol. I can also especially see this with my hands, y'know, my little stylistic lines, whatever you'd call those, and the little... overlay shading... things??? I DUNNO LOL BUT THAT'S THE BEST I CAN DESCRIBE IT
