So I have a shit ton of Twst fankids btw! They kinda swim around in my brain but only a few ppl I know have gotten the info dumps lmao

Skye was the first one I made I think (actually it might’ve been Rico (florid) but eh oh well who’s counting)

But yes this is Skye Ashengrotto!

They’re my older Jamiazu kid, I do have two. The younger one is my octo boy Akram :) he’s funny I wanna pinch his cheeks but he’s not the point here

So Skye! It feels weird publically infodumping abt my OCs like wtf am I even supposed to put here

They’re a half mer, which do work a lil different than normal mers in my lore. Half mers can transform without a potion but it’s still a long and generally painful process, esp going from mer to human. I kind of switch between calling them a snake mer and a naga but there’s lore there- Nagas exist in my lore outside of sea snake mers, there are also fully terrestrial Nagas. So the terrestrial nagas wouldn’t be considered snake mers but the sea snake nagas would be a type of mer while also still being a naga ITS CONFUSING DONT ASK (actually do. Ask everything so I can roll more of my fankids out like marbles)

Skye was created by a spell, I haven’t quite worked the details out 😔 but Jamil is part gorgon in my lore which is why they have the hair snakes which isn’t a typical naga trait. And to elaborate on the hair snakes: they are alive, the one w the bigger stripes is Flora and the smaller stripes is Jett. Skye can communicate w them telepathically and their eyes glow which is kinda neat. They’re kind of Skye’s version of floatsam and jetsam (unless u count Rico (florid) and Lilac (treyjade) which is like their ver of the twins- IDK ITS COMPLICATED)

idk what else to put here so LETS THROW SOME FHARACTER DYNAMICS YEAH and also mentioning some of my other fankids! They all have profiles (except my Malleus kid I’m sorry Aihan I can’t think of a design for you) but I’m probably gonna save those for another post-

So jamiazu in my lore live in the Shaftlands in a beachfront place and also live pretty close to Treyjade, however Florid live in the Queendom. The octatrio and their spouses is a close group so they’re essentially a big family. My treyjade kids are Maren (older) and Lilac, then my Florid kids are Rico (older) and the twins Mary and Eliza.

Skye saw Lilac more as a kid cuz they lived so close together but also saw Rico a lot when flrd would visit or they’d go to visit them. Rico is an agent of chaos and Lilac is Skye’s 2nd in command so their dynamic on a surface level is pretty similar to the octatrio, but there’s still a lot of differences once u get into the meat of it. Tho Lilac and Rico are Skye’s best friends and basically like siblings to them.

Outside of jamiazu Skye is particularly close with Jade, they share a love of tea :) he’s their cool but also slightly unsettling uncle

THEN THERES SHENZI- Shenzi is my younger kaliruggie kid and I am not gonna get into her here bcuz she rlly needs her own post w all her trauma but good lord these two do not like each other. Shenzi’s really nice but she’s not quite as nice as Kalim so after about 5 months of trying and failing to befriend Skye in their freshman year she just gave up and now their relationship is nothing but hostile (which was not helped when Shenzi and lilac started dating)

Speaking of that tho- so my idikei kids :) Ember (named after the pokemon attack) is the older one and he’s basically that “Jock idia can’t hurt you he’s not real Jock idia:” thing as a person he has the Fire hair n shit but he plays basketball and is heavily extroverted but no one gives a shit abt Ember this is NOT ABT HIM this is abt his sister! Her name is Zelda because you know Idia would name his daughter Zelda- she got all of Idia’s social anxiety lmao. She’s extremely shy and there’s a total of like 4 people in the school she can actually talk to without melting into a small stain on the floor. She’s an Skye are both in board games club and sometime in early freshman year she falls on her ass and knocks over a bunch of stuff which Skye happens to witness and cue the most awkward interaction known to man bcuz Skye can’t talk to pretty girls and Zelda can’t talk to ANYONE but they end up walking to the mirror hall together afterwards which becomes a routine. Except they’re both awkward as fuck take like almost two fucking years to get together bcuz neither of them are gonna do anything abt it BUT THEYRE VERY CUTE!! I love them

Also my ashengrotto siblings are very wholesome I need to write some stuff w them- Akram is a little shit and he loves pissing Skye off but at the end of the day he admires them and Skye loves their brother a lot :)

Anyway good lord I’ve yapped too much okay OH YEAH Skye has a Russian blue cat named Mariana who they just fucking found on the side of the road and thought it was a mouse so for like 2 years Azul thought Skye was gonna eat the cat

-Kratos x Freya (or Kratos x someone else) and a new kid

-following Atreus and whoever he ends up with and their kid

I personally would love to see Freya and Kratos together, only because I’m soft for kratos and he deserves to have a wife live 😭 but I think maybe Atreus and whoever has a kid and that kid is a pain in their a$$ and it follows that storyline. But yea would love to hear your thoughts!

HIIII Ooo okay you asked me a question I've been dying to talk about. This is my personal opinion and no hate at all to people who like it!! I 100% get why it's so popular lol:

I think Freya and Kratos getting together would be a bad move. With how their story has played out I just don't really enjoy the idea that Freya is SO forgiving they end up together after everything Kratos did. I get "it's what he had to do" but Freya loved her son so dearly she ignored how terrible of a man he had become and I do not see her getting over that in just a couple years. Yeah they trust each other a ton now and I do love they're companions after Ragnarök but idk I'm not big on them in a romantic partnership.

I'm also just tired of seeing man and woman duos immediately get paired together I think it'd be so much more interesting if they are just best friends from here on out! I enjoy they're playful friend banter soooo much more. If Kratos is to find love again I don't think Freya should be the one or even if he should settle down again at all. I'd love to see him protect and love the family he has gained without any romance (and I'm saying this as someone who eats romance plots UPPPP LMAO).

Idk if it's obvious but I'm a big Faye x Kratos guy I love them sm and I wish we had more content of them <\3

Also Freya should have a sapphic love interest next- I'M JUST SAYING IT'D BE REALLY NEAT AND I THINK SAPPHIC/BI FREYA WOULD FIX EVERYTHING IN ME LISTEN HEAR ME OUT-

Okay moving on from all that lol I would love to follow Atreus' story and see how him and Angrboda's relationship plays out! They're so cute I really enjoyed what they've set up between the two I'm intrigued to see where they go with it.

I also would love to see more of Mimir's bg yesss the story we've gotten from Ragnarök and Valhalla are so good I need more!!

Okay rambles over I don't really have anything else I'd love to see in the next game tbh I'm just excited to see how these characters grow and develop from here on out!

YEAAAHHHHH I JUST SAW!

honestly most of that did not really appeal to me because i’m not a person who cares for remakes and the smrpg one specifically kinda looks like bdsp to me in a way that i didn’t love. i also don’t own sparks of hope in the first place and just never really buy dlc in general so even if i did idk if i’d be super excited. i’m super happy for everyone who is excited about this though :-] it’s probably gonna be nice to have portable smrpg + a version that isn’t super clunky to play like it is on wiiu LOL even if i’m probably not gonna buy it. i’m also excited for the rehashed soundtrack, i usually don’t like how they sound in remakes vs the originals but you never know

the new peach centric game looks pretty neat too even though we didn’t really get any substantial gameplay footage. at first i was like "is this a super princess peach remake??" before i saw more of it. also not really looking like my sorta thing but it’s great to see because we haven’t had a peach game before or after super princess peach. idk if i dig the semi-3D gameplay though. it feels weird having a lot of horizontal but very little vertical movement. and like it’s cool that we’re getting a new game but that showcase really gave us nothing LOL like i have no real idea what type of game this is

tbh idk the point of the dark moon rerelease though like it doesn’t look THAT much better to me and it was already playable on a portable console and there’s already lm3 on switch? but like i guess again if you don’t have a 3ds you might want to play it? but it’s like not really as widely loved as the original or lm3 which is already for switch but whatever. it does have its fans and i’m sure there’s people interested in playing it. + they already ported the original to 3ds so just putting it on switch too i guess would seem kinda weird

super mario wonder also looks really neat?? it’s weird that the only game i really think i’m considering getting is the 2D platformer LMFAO. mario turned into an elephant and said wowie zowie 🥺 also this is the first time daisy has ever been playable in a nsmb type game which is sick. peach looks really weirdly short though compared to M&L which is kind of odd because when she was playable in other games they never had to do that so it’s jarring to see. the playable cast might be bigger than shown too because i doubt they’d get rid of rosalina after 3d world and i’m thinking toadette will probably be there. the style seems cute even if it’s jarring to see after like 20 years of the nsmb look

i also don’t own mk8 deluxe LMAO but it’s cool you all got more stages

overall not really a direct for me but i hope everyone has a good time with all this stuff :-] people who can’t buy smrpg on wiiu can play it portably on switch which’ll be nice, peach fans get a new game, mario + rabbids fans have been looking forward to this dlc so i hope it met expectations, luigi’s mansion fans people who have never played it can try dark moon and the new 2D mario looks fun 👍👍👍

house of savage concepts .

so , I’ve stated before that the house of savage is such an underutilized idea in canon . especially since , as I recall , we only see it once ( in savage dawn ) . & now , in gotham war , it’s being written that vandal wants to … uh … take over the league of assassins ? sigh . at least that’s what I can see so far . it’s going to take some time brainstorming and writing up the plans for this one , though , since I’d want it to be a concept i keep on this blog . so canonically , the HOS enacts as a group of vandal’s children in a plot to help him manipulate his meteorite back to earth , activating whoever has his DNA inside of them ; doing so would give them all stronger powers & make Vandal even more powerful than he is ( he basically achieves an almost god-like state of being later on too ) .

I’m going to push that back further in time . It be written that the HOS has always been in development, in the back of Vandal’s brain . Even if he doesn’t care about his children as a legitimate father figure , he could easily mold his kiddos into weapons of war . They could all be brainwashed , gaslight , hateful killing machines & that’s exactly what vandal would want of them , should he ever put the time towards this plan . However , canonically , vandal is known to not give a shit about his kids LMAO but like . Listen . he still wouldn’t beyond just using them to achieve his goals and , they’re not the LOA because they didn’t set out to BE the LOA , they’re diplomats & warriors & cannibals . Probably . Idk . They’re also all not children , some of his descendants are fully grown adults too !

my vandal is part Greek , so what if they had a Greek Mythos naming convention as well ? One of his child canonically is already called Hades ( who I’m reworking btw ) , so . Going off of there , that’d be more like a code name system : Vandal is Kronos ( of course ) , Olympian god names serve as generals , less powerful & younger members are drafted into lower-ranking sects , etc . And ya know , he eats you if you fail him , so . :)

House emblem is like the symbol on his belt from demon knights , etc . Maybe . They’re all over the world . Hiding . Definitely also would be sort of a metagame if other people outright knew about it past a certain point in time because Vandal would keep this SECRET for a VERY long time . Either that or he casually covers it as being None Of Your Fucking Business until it’s time to unleash his literal pack of warhounds . It’s its own faction , it’s own party , it’s own army . They’d have bases all over the world !

Uh , basically , I think that vandal needs his original own organization aside from Secret Society , Injustice Society , & the billion other evil groups he’s been a part of . I think Savage Dawn gave us something neat & I think it deserves to be fleshed out . I just need more time & ideas …

(This would be Clone Wars era Anakin)

- the way voldemort wouldn’t be able to even TOUCH Harry if Anakin were around

- I’m very fond of Eldritch!Anakin ??? Like I feel like his power ended up being super downplayed for being like. The literal child of the force ??? So

Imagine Eldritch!Anakin just absolutely feral over anyone / anything that tries to do Harry harm. He would crush their skull without lifting a pinky finger (it was the will of the force <3)

- I imagine the force can vaguely speak to anakin (in a different way from other Jedi since he’s it’s actual son if that makes sense?) and starts referring to Harry as his grandchild

- the way he’d go OFF on dumbledore for never checking on Harry’s home life ??? Like the kid obviously tried avoiding going home and it never raised any red flags to dumbledore ??? Really ??? Anakins not having it

- Anakin being read as like- a super powerful dark wizard by everyone around him cause the wizards have no idea about the Force and all that ??? Like, ohmygod- he strangled someone with air??? It’s the dark arts !!!

- Anakin kinda enjoys (remember- feral Eldritch being!Anakin) how freaked out the wizards get when he appears he’s like “yeahhhh baby. Don’t touch my kid!”

- Vader!Anakin poppin out for a second and making the death eaters tremble. CAN YOU IMAGINE LUCIUS MEETING HIM ?! HED BE TERRIFIED LMAO

- god, he’d fuck shit up so bad in goblet of fire and well- any movie rlly

- he RLLY hates dumbledore (if he’s well meaning or not, idk but anakin doesn’t think he is) for basically making Harry a child soldier. It all hits kinda close to home cause he’s also the chosen one / poster boy for a war so he’s able to connect to and understand Harry in a way no adult has ever been able to do with him???

- Anakin would need to be held back from killing the Dursley’s

- Fred & George LOVE him, I think sirius would be wary but they’d end up getting along over time and Anakin is fond of Remus because he reminds him of Obi-wan in some ways

- Anakin is the Cool Dad

- if ya’ll wanna be Anti-Dumbledore, consider: Anakin realizing Palpatine isn’t all he seems to be because he’s slowly realizing that dumbledore kinda has the same vibe and now Anakin is like “wait a damn second.”

- Dumbledore & Harry are just Palpatine & Anakin in different fonts

- harry: my dad is totally normal

hermione: sometimes he smiled and he has 3x the normal amount of teeth

- this is crack but anakin sees Snape and then has a vision/dream of Ben that night. He wakes up in a cold sweat and audibly goes “EW” and then goes back to sleep (going off the fact that some ppl fancast Adam driver as young!snape)

- Anakin being here just makes things a huge fix it for both his world and Harry’s world

- imagine smth (it’s the will of the force) drops in [ insert person you ship with Anakin here ] and now Harry has another parent!!!

- I’d probably make it Rex or Padmé personally (or both. They all have two hands. I love Rexanidala)

- idk how exactly this would work? If it’s an alternate dimension because anakin accidentally gets sucked thru like a worm hole / black hole or if like it’s just a very very very far and isolated planet that no one’s ever rlly been to before cause it’s so far out and there’s a hyperspace fuck up??

Thoughts on Episode 120 (S6 E7)

Protective professors, growling giants, and Miss Midnight. Let’s talk about it

Spoilers for the episode. No manga spoilers but like, if you know you know

This episode was SO GOOD holy crap. They even put the scenes of the families going about daily life! I’m so happy!

Makes me wonder what happened in the writing room lol. “Yeah so everything we cut last season ended up being important so we’re just gonna not do that ever again”

Actually a lot of this episode was like… scarily manga accurate. There were so many scenes where I could tell the exact panel it was adapting because it was THAT similar. It’s not necessarily bad when an episode doesn’t do this, I just thought it was neat. And idk why but I noticed it with this episode specifically

However, I did not need to see buff Gran Torino. That is something I could have lived without

The entire fight with Shigaraki was chilling. “Little brother” BROOOOO

“Let’s do this rationally” BAKUGOOOO

Ugh everything was so good

I think the way they adapted Aizawa thinking of his students was done well. I know the manga has him shouting with all their pictures in the background, but when you switch mediums sometimes visual tricks like that don’t work anymore. This was a clever interpretation

“The worst thing would be losing Mr Aizawa!” HELL YES! In this house we love and respect Mr Aizawa!

They! Added! The! Dadpress! Scene! My life is complete. My skin is clear. My crops are thriving.

(For anime onlies who didn’t know, that scene was a messy sketch included as a volume extra. Horikoshi wanted to put it in the series proper but ran out of space)

Dabi floating away when Gigantomachia grabbed Compress is the funniest thing I’ve seen all day. I love it so much

That said, I did always think Dabi was running to Skeptic rather than casually sauntering around, but that’s how the anime usually characterizes him lol (see episode 2 of season 6). Still a good interpretation of the scene, I’m just glad they included it at all

Also… Dabi… do you maybe want to rephrase what the FUCK you said? Like manga readers know what’s going on (and a translator is technically the one who picked the words) but still… there’s gotta be a better way to phrase that lmao

Also also I like the implication that after Skeptic’s office melted into nothing, he just crouched on the ground and kept working. Big mood

Wow Geten and Re-Destro are so cool! Sure is a shame half their characterization got axed last season (I’m sorry, I’m still salty about it)

Midnight pretty, brain go burr

Lol remember when that Midnight scene was in the trailer and even MHA haters were simping for her? Good times

Speaking of Midnight, I was hoping we would actually see her fight. In the manga it all happens off screen, so I thought maybe they’d add it in. It’s possible we’ll see it in the future, I guess, but it would have been kind of nice to see even a little now

It hurt seeing her all beat up though :(

Overall? Really solid episode. 10/10. I wasn’t expecting this episode to be anything particularly special but it was such a pleasant surprise! I loved it!

ftr there is also nothing that mary could have or somehow should have individually done that would have magically made their life together happy, either. it’s no more or less on her shoulders than on stede’s.

idk i think about them a lot and just like. like they have such different wants, different needs, different approaches and coping mechanisms that sort of inherently rub against each other wrong, and were limited in how genuinely they could connect while they were both trying very hard to uphold the societal roles they’d been made to step into.

like, i think mary and stede were both at bandwidth capacity in those terms for the vast majority of their marriage. there’s no reality where they stay together and are happy and content! there’s no scenario where they could be sincerely good satisfying life partners to each other. there’s no “well if he’d done abc” or “if she’d done xyz” that can negate that. to the best of their individual and highly incompatible ability, they were both trying and ultimately all they could really land at together was enduring. they are fully not designed to be good spouses to one another lmao

the inherent problem with their marriage/relationship is that neither of them wanted it in the first place and they were completely unable to gel in a way that could facilitate building a genuine understanding foundation. anytime i see the implication that one of them is directly at fault for that unhappiness i get kinda miffed about it tbh, they are just fully incompatible individuals on that level.

and ig thats my lead-in to how i think it’s very Neat and telling that they were only able to be honest and communicate fully and even bond/forge a kinda friendship in the post-murder attempt zone, once any remaining shreds of attempting to adhere to spousal roles had been thrown out the window.

(obvious disclaimer here re: the fact that stede leaving in the night without any warning was a Premium Fuckup, and so was him being an ass on main for a bit when he returned, and that i do slot mary’s attempted murder under Premium Fuckups as well)

Started on a prompt (Thanks again to the two lovely anons who helped me decide) and am posting what I have so far bc idk how I feel about it lmao

the prompt is to write something that includes the sentence I think someone is listening/watching us:

The first hazy memory that Camila had when she and Andy snuck into the Muentean mansion was that they had entered through a broken window, and once inside she almost immediately let out a loud, hearty sneeze.

“Sorry,” she had giggled when she saw the worried look on Andy’s face, “It’s way too dusty in here.”

“Just be careful,” Andy giggled back, “You’re gonna get us caught.”

Camila nodded and together they stumbled around the place, giggling and bumping into things. Okay, so they weren’t completely worried about getting caught. And truthfully, it didn’t matter if they were. Tons of people snuck into the mansion. It was said that a vampire lived here. A young vampire, newly turned, who fed on the people who tried entering. Yeah, right. It was more of a town tradition than anything. No one took it seriously, and it was something that punk high school kids did to get in the mood for Halloween.

Andy and Camila weren’t high school kids and hadn’t been for over ten years, but it had been a boring Saturday night, they’d been having drinks at the bar a few blocks over, and the next thing Carmila knew Andy had started a game of Truth or Dare where she triple dog dared her to sneak into the house. And well, you couldn’t pass up a dare, especially not a triple dog dare. Alright, so maybe, she and Andy were still immature. But what do you expect from two girls who’d been best friends since kindergarten?

They tripped up the stairs, holding onto each other for mutual support and balance, and ventured into a large room.

“This must be the master,” Camila said as she bumped into the night table.

“Oooh,” Andy said in a mock, moaning voice, “I’m the dangerous vampire.” she put the bed’s blanket around her like a cloak and stuck her arms out like claws, “Listen to them. Children of the night. What music they make.”

“That’s Dracula,” Camila responded flatly, “Wrong vamp. And take that blanket off you it’s probably so full of dust.”

Andy rolled her eyes but did as she was told, “You know, you’d think with all the money this dude has he’d hire some housekeeping service.”

“Yeah, right,” Camila agreed with a shrug, “Go figure. But what if he’s not rich?”

“He has a mansion, obviously he’s rich.”

“I guess so.”

“Anyway, I’m getting bored. And I feel myself sobering up. Let’s go.”

“Alright, wait a sec. I gotta pee. Where’s the bathroom?”

“How would I know?”

Camila sighed and walked across the hall. She opened a door and found not the bathroom but a small library.

“Andy,” she yelled out, “Come here!”

“What’s up,” Andy said as she bounded inside, “Find the vamp?”

“No, but come to look at this library. It’s got a lot of funky stuff.”

“I’ll say.” The room had shelves of thick books a neat mahogany desk, and a large, antique globe on a wooden stand. Andy rolled the globe over, “This thing looks ancient! It could be worth some serious money.”

“Please,” Camila said in disbelief, “There’s no way that thing is actually old. I’m sure it’s fake.”

“I don’t know, what if this guy, this vampire, is set on world domination! Like, why else would he have a globe?”

“What?”

“Yeah, what if one by one he marks the countries that he conquerors! And we’re next!”

“Well, if he’s still trying to conquer places like the U.S.S.R and Czechoslovakia, he’s behind several decades. Now let’s get out of here.”

Andy laughed, rolled the globe over one last time, and they made their way to go when she noticed a large portrait above the desk.

“Whoa,” she said, “Check it out! I didn’t see that when we came in, did you?”

Camila noticed the portrait then, “No,” she said, “I didn’t.”

“So, this must be your man, huh?”

Camila laughed, “What do you mean, my man?”

“Yeah! That’s your man. You’re just dying to get some of that young, vampire dude in you!”

“You’re the one who wanted to come here so that makes him your man.”

“Nah, look at him, he’s definitely your type!”

Camila inspected the picture and hated that Andy was right. The portrait was of a young guy, around their age, with dark hair, dark eyes, and a strong jawline. He wore a navy blue shirt and matching slacks. All in all, Camila had to agree that he was very good-looking.

She looked at the portrait long and hard, until she noticed that the eyes seemed to follow her, and she thought they even blinked at her.

“Jesus,” she giggled, “I must be more drunk than I thought.”

“Why do you say that?”

“I could have sworn your man was looking at us. I thought he blinked.”

“What if they did,” Andy whispered teasingly, “What if someone is watching us?”

“Shut up,” Camila said, playfully swatting her arm, “Come on. I still have to find the bathroom.”

As they reached the threshold of the door Camila sneezed again.

“Bless you,” A deep, male voice said from behind them.

Both girls froze.

“Please tell me you said that,” Camila whispered.

“I would, but I’d be lying.”

They turned and looked at the portrait. It was staring at them, and this time Andy noticed the eye movements. “Cam,” she said, “I think someone’s watching us.”

“Are you playing with me, you’re playing with me, stop it!”

“No, I’m dead serious! I think I saw it blink this time.”

Camila walked up to the picture and waved her hands in front of it. The eyes followed, and she let out a scream.

“The eyes are moving, the eyes are moving, the eyes are freaking moving!”

“Let’s get out of here,” Andy cried.

“Hold on, you can’t leave just yet,” they heard the male voice say. The library door slammed shut and locked. Both girls tried forcing it open to no success.

“Come here,” it told them.

“Where is that voice coming from,” Andy asked.

The voice let out an exasperated sigh, “The portrait, it said, “I’m behind the portrait.”

They walked over to it, clinging to each other. Andy asked, “What do you want from us?”

“I vant to suck yur blood,” the voice told them in a horrible Dracula impersonation, but the girls let out a terrible scream anyway. The voice laughed and said in its normal voice, “No, no, I was just messing with you. Listen, I kind of got stuck in here, and have been in here for quite a while, so if you could do me a favor and let me out, I'd really appreciate it.”

Camila and Andy glanced at each other, and Camila eyed the portrait suspiciously, “And why should we let you out? How do we know you won’t actually... eat us or something once we do? I mean why did you have us locked in here?”

“I’m not going to eat you,” the voice cried indignantly, “That’s gross! I’m a vampire, not a zombie, OK, we don’t do the eating humans thing.”

“Yeah, you just do the sucking blood thing.”

i do have a lot of things to say about bayo3 now that i’ve completed the main storyline and been given time to think things over.

personally, the core mechanics of the game, i.e the combat and demon masquerade/slave, were a LOT of fun. the way you can rack up combo points really easily by equipping and using your demons to boost your attacks is really neat, and beating the shit out of an enemy with one of them was always a blast. the weapons were unique and fun and while i do miss being able to mix&match whatever 2 you’d like, i get it: each weapon has its corresponding masquerade that adds its own flavor to the combo pool. every boss battle had me on the edge of my seat, wndering whch demon was going to get supercharged and just how they’d have you use them to beat the enemy. giant kaiju battle with gomorrah? blowing cute little bubbles as you relax in the clouds as a giant mistress of atrocity? controlling either malphas or phantasmaraneae? a god damn RHYTHM GAME with baal? riding on Madama and beating the shit out of some homunculi? come on.

i didnt mind that the levels were a little more open, they all looked pretty good but, they suffered from where a lot of more modern nintendo games do, wherein they felt kind of empty. i think i felt this more when you were on thule, as opposed to the physical locations like all the cities. there really wasnt much going on there, it was just kind of a hub for all the portals and unlike-- i guess the best relative comparison to the series would be, noatun--didnt really get developed. so, i will say, the portions where you travel across thule are some of my least favorite.

which, does bring me to my biggest complaint, is the overall handling of the story. everyone’s talked about the ending to death and how bland the narrative is, but the biggest thing for me is how underdeveloped the whole thing is. there’s hardly any lore given for thule, how the lumen and umbra even got there, why they started using this island in the first place. i havent collectd all of luka’s journal entries for this game, so idk if those help shed more light like they usually do, but, then again, all of this SHOULD be provided within the game itself. a big part of what i love from the bayonetta series is how lore heavy 1&2 are. does a lot of it make sense? no. is some of the storytelling in 1&2 messy? of course. they throw so much at you in the first 2 games, that it can honestly be a bit overwhelming, but that’s a big reason that encouraged me to replay them so much. it’s like watchng a movie multiple times; the more see it, the more you find out. with 3, there’s not a lot TO find out. even the core theme of being in control of your own destiny and defining your own truth while, a decent theme, is kind of haphazardly thrown together at the very end.

and while there’s a lot of mixed opinions ON the end, i thought it was... ok? i got spoiled like, before the game even came out about who viola turns out to be so, unfortunately, the big reveal at the end wasn’t really a “reveal”. i’m definitely surprised this is the turn they took, but it doesn’t bother me That badly. it’s tossed in so last minute too that i cant really give it much more than an afterthought lmao. i DID however really enjoy the boss battle when all 3 bayonetta’s show up though. that was really cute and the fight itself was fun.

i really enjoyed jeanne’s little levels! the music was good, i LOVED the QT J transformation sequence that could happen, the way it utilized her beast & centipede within. the shower bonus always made me crack up and they are all relatively easy to rank up a platinum-pure platinum with.

i wish jeanne had more time in the game, like actual dedicated levels like viola, but i’m glad theyre sticking the trend of having her be unlocked by completing the main story like 2. and speaking of viola, i enjoy her as a character. she’s cute and being voiced by one of my favorite creators doesnt hurt, but man do i SUCK as using her parry 😭 it was just really easy for me to get frustrated fighting wth her, especially new enemies/bosses. and, again, i just wish they’d developed her a little bit more.

the story is definitely where the game lacks a lot of its previous charm, but the fights and combats really did carry a lot of its faults. i had so much fun experimenting with all of the demons and new weapons and how the masquerades work, that i could forgive how lackluster the narrative was. which, does suck, considering how much i loved learning about the World of Bayonetta, but there’s nothing to be done about it now.

i personally had a fun time with the game and sunk almost 20 hours into it already and i havent even touched the post-game content, not to mention replaying the chapters to get a better score. i dont know where the series stands as of right now, and im gonna be honest, i wouldn’t be upset if this was the last game. it’s pretty clear that the creative workings for this one were all over the place, if the jumbled, disjointed plot is any indication. is it everything we expected? definitely not, but i am grateful that it was still able to get made in spite of everything. i was just happy to have another bayonetta game. i’ve been a fan of this series for over 10 years now, and while its definitely not as good as its predecessors, it still has its own unique individual charm that i’m sure i will keep coming back to down the line.

#overall i had a good experience playing the game and i'm grateful that something was able to come out of that pre-production hell #i just have a feeling it was kind of doomed from the start. b/w the va debacle and then all the spoilers coming out beforehand #but despite everything i had a fun time and tbh that's all that matters to me in the long run
