well barbie and blitzo’s interactions killed me just as i expected, but i just want to talk about this:

we can see that barbie’s mad at blitzo for whatever reason, but something about this scene feels off to me. and i think i’ve pinpointed why

blitzo is no stranger to people being mad at him, in fact it happens in most episodes. of course some people‘s feelings mean more to him, such as maybe m+m, stolas or even fizzarolli, but he doesn’t shy away from defending himself and speaking his mind to even them. he always has some shit to say, and always sticks up for himself in his own blitzo way

but with barbie he doesn’t, he just stares at her with that sad little look of regret on his face. even in this scene:

blitzo recoils away from barbie. doesn’t defend himself. doesn’t argue with her. just recoils.

blitzo obviously feels shame and regret over whatever has happened between him and barbie, otherwise he would’ve stuck up for himself. however i also think he views barbie as completely innocent and out of the wrong regarding whatever happened, instead possibly blaming himself, due to one thing:

barbie was never in blitzo’s bad trip. striker, fizz, verosika, moxxie and stolas were, but not barbie. all of these people he views negatively (or has previously viewed somewhat negatively in moxxie’s and stolas’ case) but barbie is no where to be seen. obviously something has happened in the past with her as with the others, but unlike them he can’t bring himself to hate her for it

edit: just gonna throw it out there that blitzo recoils when barbie presses their mother’s choker. make of that what you will

aemond being arrogant and smug about going to war. he is overconfident in his conviction that he will come back victorious when alicent frets over him leaving for battle.

when the day he's supposed to leave with their army comes alicent is there to say goodbye and wish him well. he sees her worried expression and takes her hands in his promising that he will return having won the battle for their family.

he squeezes her hands and says his final goodbyes. climbs on a horse at the head of the army, next to criston and aegon who will be leading it.

suddenly he's overtaken by a feeling of unease. he turns his head back and sees alicent watching the procession. his stomach drops, he feels nervous, unsettled.

before he knows it he stops, gets off the horse and hearing criston yell his name in the background walks runs back to alicent and hugs her tightly. neither of them says a word until he lets go. she touches his face, caresses the scar on his cheek and he leaves without a word.

climbs back on the horse, ignoring aegon's sour, jealous expression and criston's questions.

he feels ashamed of showing that weakness, of feeling like a young man he is, when he's the one riding the most formidable dragon alive. especially in front of the soldiers he's supposed to help lead.

an older man rides up to him, clasps his shoulder startling him out of his musings.

"young or old, all men cry out for their mothers when they're dying on the field, my prince. only a fool would fault you for embracing yours."

POV: You carry Malenia back home after the Radahn battle, but she wakes up and insists that she can walk by herself. She says, you're exhausted enough, ah, take a break! So you don't mention that she doesn't use your Halo Scythe as a weapon, and she doesn't mention your hand around her waist, and somehow, you make it back to the Haligtree.

Begging Jordie to buy him a deck of cards, practicing sleight of hand in front of the mirror for hours, alone in the rental room while his brother searched for work. Thinking about 8 year old Inej, who’s mother told her that acrobats flew on invisible wings. Begging her father to teach her how to walk the tightrope, performing spins and handstands while he wasn’t looking. Climbing to the highest wire even though her father forbid it. Never using a net, because part of her would always believe she could fly.

Thinking about how the boy who dreamed of magic became the boy who could pick any lock, control any deck, steal any wallet. Thinking about how the girl who dreamed of flight became the girl who could scale any wall, make any climb, jump from any height.

Donnie and the family absolutely stop referring to August as or joking about her being a/the clone when she's still a baby. Once her personality starts to develop it's so clear she's her own person deserving of individual respect so that doesn't belong on the table. Donnie never hides that August was cloned / how she was made (and August takes pride in being cloned from her Papa who she admires and loves so much - NO ONE is smarter than her Papa, thank you VERY much!) but the clone word is Never used to put her down or belittle her or deprive her of full personhood. If anyone did refer to her specifically as Donnie's clone rather than Donnie's daughter it would absolutely be uncomfortable and kind of sting her. In cousin AUs, how August was created might cause her a little insecurity because she was the "unplanned science experiment gone 'wrong'" in her mind when she's feeling down but no one in her family has ever or would ever consider her that. Donnie boasts that she's his greatest creation (Next to Shelldon, obviously - I don't talk about his role as much but he's just as much Donnie's kid as August, he's just older and pretty self-sufficient by the time August shows up). August and Donnie mutually see their papa-daughter connection as a uniquely special one and enjoy/take pride in sharing it with each other. ;w; <3

Oh my gosh Donnie loves his daughter more than he can handle yES. He would be heartbroken if he ever found out she harboured thoughts like that [being a freaky science experiment mistake forced upon him] and likely go overboard doing his best to assure her in every way he can that he chooses her every millisecond of every day. August would get smothered in gifts and surprises and words of affirmation until it became overwhelming and she demanded he stop. But he'd still be extra attentive and aware of it afterwards.

I don't think August being a clone would be common knowledge outside the family - most would likely assume she has a biological second parent - but if for some reason she ever was teased about it and the fam found out there would be some serious glare intimidation and Very Big Words with the perpetrator's parents

It's important to me that August is treated like her own person independent of her family while also being a valued member of it. Of course Donnie is still going to lay down Dad Law but August's feelings and personhood are taken seriously and treated with respect. It likely helps a LOT that August is normally a pretty well-behaved kid but Donnie does an IMMENSE AMOUNT OF RESEARCH on parenting and babies when he decides to keep August and I think, by the time he's an adult, gentle parenting is something he would do well with. Will he still lose his temper or get impatient? Absolutely. But they both do their best to meet each other half way and ALWAYS apologize and address miscommunications or outbursts after they've cooled off. Neither likes being mad at the other. From his experiences with Shelldon, Donnie would know that just yelling at someone "because I said so" doesn't work and only hurts both of them to punish without August Fully Understanding Why she's being told no or being disciplined. I would say he's strict but fair. This gets tricky when she gets up to mischief but he recognizes her acting out is usually out of boredom / lack of stimulation / genuinely not realizing what she’s doing is ‘bad’ rather than maliciousness, and if he's clear in his explanations of why something is inappropriate then August is (usually) very receptive and respectful (unless she sniffs out a flaw in his armor - like their unspoken game of her trying to hack into his lab / certain files and him letting it happen sometimes because it's a good practice and mental challenge for her).

I also rly love August and Donnie bringing out the best in each other, both because of how similar they are AND because of how their differences can sometimes elevate, compliment, and teach each other. ;w; <333 It's not always easy to be a dad or a kid, but there's always, always love, and they actively seek out ways to express that and stay aware of each others' wavelengths even when (ESPECIALLY when) one of them is struggling or they aren't lining up.

I love Donnie having someone he can share his special interests with and who Gets Him and can Relate to how his brain works and struggles and shines. It's definitely such a blessing to have someone like that in your life. ToT

PS - I don’t normally explicitly state it because I worry about not being able to write it well enough but when others clock the neurodivergency in August I just [fist clench, manly tears] I’m rly glad it’s reading. Because writing her that way is definitely intentional.

August gets her own ninpo but it's still a secret right now UwU <3 She WILL however find it difficult to use, yeah. August spends so much time trying to be like her family that she struggles to find Herself amidst powerful giants and that definitely impacts how her ninpo manifests. At first it's unreliable and changes what it is sporadically, refusing to choose what it is. So although she unlocks it much younger than the boys unlocked theirs, she's unable to reliably use it until she's older. To compensate, she spends a lot of time learning how to use different weapons/ninja skills and hand-to-hand combat so she can still be effective even when her ninpo is on the fritz / struggling to find it's own shape. ;v;

Her best not-direct-family buddy is little CJ of the good timeline! They're around the same age and get on thick as thieves. Lots of hockey and junior vigilante-ing and goofing around. Also also->

He would solidly go as "CJ" and is still Casey Sr's son. I imagine him being like kind of a mix of Rise movie Casey Jr. and 2012 Casey when he's older. thinking about how mountain loves cumulus so much. theres times where he just needs her. needs her softness, her gentle hand between his horns. the kind way she tells him to take a break, to sit with her because she needs a few moments of calm too. the practiced way she'll guide him to curl up around her middle, draped over her lap so his head lies in the crook of her elbow.

i know all anyone really wants to talk about from episode 2 is That Part of their reunion (which is fair, don't ask me how many times I rewatched it), but now, the part that keeps playing over and over again in my head is this tiny bit:

and i just need to say, danai and andy are so insanely talented bc this clip?? this clip—short as it is, with not a world of dialogue—says SO much about where our two characters are at.

first, rick. i watch this clip and i think holy shit, yeah, that is a broken man. andy does a masterful job at displaying through his eyes and the way he carries himself the extent of the psychological damage and anguish within rick, not to mention the guilt he carries. you can see the gears turning in his head as he reminds himself how he basically gave up on her. how he gave up on himself. how he told himself that he was done, he was never seeing her again, and let himself fold into the CRM. i think it's safe to say he hates himself for his choice to move on. he's utterly crushed by it. like look at him, he can't even meet her eyes!!

and michonne? she sees it. once the euphoria of I Found You has begun to wear off and she lets herself really take him in, she immediately clocks that this is not the same rick that "died" on the bridge. not the rick that led alexandria. not the rick that got them out of terminus. and definitely not the rick that stood up to the saviors. in fact, the last time she saw this version of him, it was right after the first time they ever lost to negan, and that horrifies her, because if that rick is back, then something truly terrible has happened. the look on her face in the clip says a million things, but most loudly, she's wondering, understandably and devastatingly, "my love, what have they done to you?"

the final clue for her that her rick is gone, at least for now, is their next interaction. since forever, both of their instincts anytime they've been told that something bad is coming their way have been to either hoof it for the safety of their family or stand back to back and dispatch the threat. it's the panic in his voice, the sheer desperation as he pleads with her to stand down instead and hide herself after she suggests they go that tells her she has no idea what he's been through or what she's in for now that she's in the shit with him. and even now, if the trailer for E03 has been any indication, she still fails to grasp the danger they're both in. i know what people online have been saying, but she's not being careless, this is michonne we're talking about, she just doesn't understand how careful she really has to be. and then throw jadis and her bitch ass bowl cut into the mix and suddenly a whole new threat looms over alexandria and the commonwealth that ultimately all comes back on rick too? the guilt he now has to face for not only dragging his wife into his mess, but through jadis, also his daughter and all his friends?? and if he finds out now that he has a son too, then there's even more guilt??????

i could go on for hours but i won't. all i'll say is that we're definitely in for such an emotional ride tomorrow. and really there's no one else i trust more than andy and danai to deliver that for us.

You ever think about the fact that grif and Simmons are both the way they are because they lacked good authority figures in their youth? The fact they were both neglected just in different ways and came to different conclusions on how to cope with that? How when Geoff said that they would have a kid and settle down together suggests a kind of cycle breaking that would require them both to talk about their feelings in ways that terrify them? When war is all you know it makes love terrifying and that’s part of why they never do discuss it, because the normalcy of their relationship, the fact they don’t talk about what it even is means that they can’t lose it. You can’t break up if you were never dating. You can never fall out of love if you were never in love. The lack of commitment is them both trying to protect themselves from that kind of loss and it’s heartbreaking— because Simmons feels like he’s always had to do every little thing right to be loved and Grif doesn’t feel like he deserves love in the first place so he gave up earning it so they both just exist like this, in limbo, permanently in a relationship and not, never putting words to what they are other than Grif and Simmons

The hopclair hug at the end of vol 2 GETS me, for two main reasons:

1. the look Lucas gives her beforehand.

2. El's face during the hug.

The first one especially gets me, because Lucas, without knowing El was there with him that night, gives her this look of true understanding.

He doesn't know that she tried just as he did to save Max. He doesn't know that she holds just as much guilt as he does over her current condition. He doesn't know the many reasons as to why what they are feeling is so similar in that moment.

All he knows is that El cares about Max just as much as he does, and that she must be feeling just as awful as he is. In his mind, their only point of connection is their love for Max, and he's right. Their shared love for Max is what motivated them to try as hard as they possibly could to protect her. It's what fuels their guilt over their "failure" to do so.

Lucas knows that he misses Max, and he knows that El does too, and that knowledge is enough.

It's enough for him to find more comfort in the girl who he met less than three years ago, than he does in the two boys he's known almost his entire life. The two boys he met long before the name Max first entered his minds.

Because they don't understand. They can't. Not the way El does.
