it actually rages me and this is why i hate twitter and this is why im going to go into a rant about how these characters actually do have fucking depth and personality to them and that people need to stop pushing their outrageous agendas on people and being toxic xoxo

So, one main point I want to make is obviously Dazai and Chuuya, that's my main point here. They are separate entities as much as they are one. They have their own personalities, their own pasts, their own feelings, thoughts; they're fucking human. But something that a lot of people seem to want to do is make Chuuya's personality Dazai. That Chuuya is salty with him for leaving the mafia, and that Chuuya's "trauma" is Dazai (that man has fucking far worse trauma, Dazai leaving the mafia is not traumatic to him, especially when it had nothing to fucking do with the poor guy), and that his whole being is simply just Dazai. Dazai, the man who admitted that he spent every waking second thinking about Chuuya. The guy who got himself caught by the mafia partly because he wanted to see Chuuya. Are we all forgetting the dead apple scene? It's far more accurate to say that Dazai's personality is Chuuya, jesus fucking christ. That guy forgot to breathe when he watched Chuuya fighting like??? He's so homo, anyways.

Their characters are integral to each other, and they're made for one another (I'm saying this as a character creating thing, not romantically lmao (although-) ) and they compliment each other perfectly, they're perfect rivals. And, they can stand on their own as their own people, their own characters. Yes, whilst we meet Chuuya through Dazai in the series, and we see him as Dazai's ex-partner, the more information we get and the more content we receive about/from Chuuya steadily make him his own individual character, and Stormbringer cemented that.

I'm going to talk about the "Chuuya has trauma from Dazai leaving" thing because I saw it on Wattpad and it pissed me off.

Chuuya's trauma doesn't stem from Dazai, of fucking course it doesn't. It stems from Arahabaki, it stems from not knowing who he is, it stems from N (piece of shit), it stems from all his friends dying, it stems from being betray by his friends; this fucking guy has been put through the fucking mill, and yet the only thing that people like to focus on is how Dazai leaving affected him.

Dazai's defection from the mafia wasn't because of Chuuya, it was because of Oda. This is blatantly fucking obvious, yet again, some people like to think otherwise. Some people like to believe the most abhorrent shit. I swear there was someone one time that said he left because he "couldn't handle his feelings ofr Chuuya" like fuck off oh my god oh my god.

These two each have their own issues and their own traumas separate from each other. Can we please let Chuuya be his own character and let him have a personality without shitting on it?

These motherfuckers will scratch at anything, absolutely anything, to make anything about Chuuya to do with Dazai. Not every bad thing that happens to a character has to be topped by your deluded fantasies. "Oh, Chuuya was tortured? But Dazai-" LIKE NO FUCK OFF. We literally have NOTHING on the man, and you want to make some bullshit up just so that he can, what, be more mentally ill than others? Bruh? I don't know what these people are scheming or planning, but comparing trauma and saying that a character's is worse is so fucking awful and makes others feel like shit. I've always struggled with mine, because I constantly tell myself that worse things have happened to worse people, so I am a hypocrite here. But I understand how trauma works and affects people, and that it affects people differently. Your worst experience could be different to somebody elses, but you'll both be heavily affected by it. Chuuya doesn't show signs of the amount of immense trauma he has (mans internalises it and won't let himself show it because that's how he is pls PLS somebody give this man a fucking hug) whereas Dazai is clearly not right in the head; this doesn't mean you're allowed to say "Oh, Dazai has worse trauma clearly" because we have nothing about his past. We hardly have anything from his time at the mafia except his first mission, and his last. What happened in between for those 3-4 years? We don't know. We know bits now thanks to Stormbringer and Dead Apple about the Dragon's Head Conflict, but we still don't have much to go off. We haven't even had so much as a hint towards the first 14 years of his life, and we don't know anything about those two years he went undercover, except that he was unemployed and frequented Bar Lupin (I always thought about how the bartender felt after finding out about Oda but hey :') ), but other than that, we have virtually nothing on the man. We never know how he's feeling, what he's thinking, etc. He is a complex character, and he's made that way as a character because, and I cannot stress this enough, that is his character. Sorry, I derailed a bit there. Anyways, what I mean to say is that you can't use Dazai being bat-shit crazy as evidence for your delusions. That's his character, and yes, he may be influenced by his trauma, but we can only speculate. Clearly something has gone awry in his life for him to think the way he does and to crave death so badly, and to just be the way he is now. But, as I said before, trauma affects everyone differently. Just because Chuuya doesn't want to fucking kill himself does not mean that his trauma should be brushed aside and glossed over. Chuuya puts up a front because he doesn't want to be weak; all his life people have relied on his ability and his strength and wit to get them through, and even though the Mafia go a different way about it than the sheep, his ability and strength is still utilised; it's like Sigma, and Yosano. Nobody wants to be used, yet they still end up in a cycle of it until someone can come along to get them out of it. Supposedly Chuuya has been taken out of that cycle from the Sheep, but not necessarily so. Yes, the Mafia treats him better. But it doesn't really. Ah fuck I'm making zero sense yikes. Sorry, my bad. Ignore that lol.

ANYWAY sorry to cut this short, but my point still stands that Chuuya's character and personality does not solely revolve around Dazai, the man who has his ex-partner on his mind 24/7 and makes him come save him like a disney princess. Anyways lol.

These characters are their own people, and trauma isn't a competition. You don't have to come up with the most abhorrent shit to make Dazai's situation "worse" and then force that onto everyone else and start berating and belittling them when they don't believe you. ANYWAYS I am so sorry about this, the last few nights have been hectic for me.

Anyways I'll definitely be coming back to this, rn I'm honestly just too fucked to finish <3

been going insane lately over remembering about leafpool hiding hollyleaf's fur lately

leafpool covered up for hollyleaf's murder, hollyleaf's own codebreaking, with horror but with barely a moment of hesitation or regret. she later confronts hollyleaf about it calmly, with an open mind and the assurance of secrecy, just desperate to understand why. so that being paralleled against HOLLYLEAF'S reaction to finding out about LEAFPOOL'S crimes is just...... uuuaghhhhhh god it's so tragic. she sacrificed everything for those kids and won back nothing for it

i love captains-first mates dynamics so much because they are so different and luzo NOT being childhood friends to lovers and instead being love at first sight/only cremate luffy sought out/all that instead of 2 different kinds of growth together that kidkiller and lawbepo had is really so fun

luzo are not a slow burn they are an explosion, luffy waits for nothing, he isnt scared to lose this new and precious friendship he found. idk if theres a fic but there should be where luzo first time is post mihawk. luffy getting a clear confirmation that zoro is his and since he is His why wouldnt he tear into him. yes grave injury may be a turn off but seeing a weakened and vulnerable zoro makes luffy insane (hes alive that placated some of his protective instincts, his worry is settling down) he hates that zoro is hurt but his weak voice makes him hard and zoros proclamation of loyalty is vivid in luffy's mind. that's his right there he doesnt want to wait ..they can be careful right it's fine (zoro is crazy enough to go along you know this)

the way the power balance is so different where luzo are most equal and lawbepo is the least lol

personally i love thinking that out of aaaaalll of them killer is the most mature and savvy when it comes to relationships (because while law got more seriousness in him than the remaining five combined - he is very able to hurt bepo) killer got his cute level headed moments i adore. i love that he can hold kid on a short leash and make him think it was his idea But also just allow kid to do whatever because he adores him

⬆️ being true for all vices but in different ways. killer is indulgence, idk if im overfocusing on their age gap but imo killer somewhat still feels like taking care of kid as a younger brother so that "sure babe" is laced with care, adoration, acute awareness that he is letting a wild horse run free and it will surely break something and hurt itself and "i have a firm hand on your arm so you dont trip, i love you"

bepo sees law as godlike of course captain can do whatever, his word is absolute and he is never wrong. "you are the best thing around and the best thing in my life i love you"

zoro is so hard when luffy is wilding out it stops his brain function. "i will lose all my limbs for you i love you"

i gotta say, whist fraxus is easily the most popular freed ship, and one i have always loved, recently ive started preferring bixfreed, if only due to the fact that it’s one of the only gay freed ships where he’s not made into the “flamboyant one”. thats bixlow. noone is out flamboyanting bixlow, and he never loses any masculinity despite it.

ive always hated how common it is for freed to be completely mischaracterised (not even flanderised hes just straight up not the same character anymore) in most gay ships. people seem to really love making him a “damsel in distress” type, especially with fraxus, i can only assume because laxus is so stereotypically masculine.

this really seems to only be an issue with gay ships including freed (although it is especially egregious with fraxus, and a LOT of old miraxus media. no im not getting into that.)

ive never seen a ship involving freed and a woman that has this issue. he’s almost always presented as this suave intellectual, a gentleman, someone independent, but who chooses to help others. (i personally headcanon freed to be gay so its always a little annoying seeing him being characterised so much better in many of these straight ships lol)

anyway back to bixfreed

its always fun seeing freed have to act as the straightman (lol) to bixlow, and it further helps bixlow’s own character. its so good to see a man be presented as wearing typically feminine things (his skirt and nail polish), and be so willing to be silly, to goof around, to hang off ceilings, and yet not once is his masculinity compromised.

I’ve seen a great deal of fanart of freed where i genuinely thought he’d been genderbent. Freed is still a masculine character, but so many fans just see his eyelashes and hair, and throughout the series mashima just fed into this, especially in the anime, with multiple “gags” of him fawning over laxus, to the point where fans started comparing him to juvia (also someone who was flanderised to the point of being unrecognisable.)

im not even sure what my point in this rant is anymore im just so tired of this mischaracterisation. you can have a character be gay without forcing stereotypes onto them so much it becomes homophobic. im BEGGING just leave this in 2016

Does anyone else feel like you need to know everything about a character before you write a fanfic for them? Sometimes if it’s a character I don’t know too well, I feel guilty writing for them

some of my zelgug headcanons just for fun !!

they got their ears pierced together! (both now wear black studs) (also they paint each other's nails black. very important)

they're t4t, bi4bi and ace4ace (the end of fhsy isn't what you think i swear i swear. as an asexual they are soooo ace coded if you ignore that)

they go on a lot of picnics, mostly under the thistlespring tree-they like spending most of their time together outside!

zelda's always in the front row of any fig and the cig figs shows she can make it to-and gorgug's taught her a little bit of drumming! she sits in on band meetings sometimes and tries to pick up some instruments but doesn't really (she's a great singer though-mostly w metal stuff)

their love language is very much quality time/parallel play, almost every weekend they'll spend a few hours or even a night at the other's, most of the time doing their own separate tasks.

^ on top of that they are both autistic because i'm autistic and i said so (gorgug is 100% neurodivergent coded though)

they've claimed their own little booth in basrar's that atp no one else really uses and basrar puts a little "reserved" sign on the table for them every friday <3 (they have dates there very friday after school <33 gorgug walks her there & to her house)

most of their time together is spent either UNDER the thistlespring tree (usually while his parents are away) or at zelda's (usually while HER parents are away) gorgug is more comfy that way

gorgug has made. so. many. tin flowers for her. she offhandedly mentioned her favourite flower once and now he only makes her favourite

a lot of this might be obvious or implied in canon idk it's midnight but!!!! they are so dear to me

listen. I want to hate on season 3 with you all but I can't do that if you keep missing the point.

the narrative is not on the doctor's side and if you find yourself having more sympathy for him than for her that's on you not the show, sorry.

the point is not that martha is either superior or inferior to rose, its that they are not comparable and if you only use martha to compare her to rose - even in a positive way - you're doing the exact same thing that the doctor does but in reverse. rose and martha never interact, they have nothing in common, not background, not situation, not class, and definitely not character. stop comparing the two.

martha is characterised as by far the most quiet, thoughtful, and softspoken companion of the rtd era. she rarely ever speaks her thoughts (and most of the time, she doesn't have to because freema agyeman is one of the greatest actresses of our generation), and when she does, it's a huge deal because she doesnt usually do that (see: the "this is me getting out" monologue). it's super weird how I keep seeing people characterise her sarcastic and annoyed, and worst of all, loud. she is only ever annoyed when the doctor treats her like a rebound, and she is patient and good tempered even then (even though she would totally be in the right to lash out at him ngl) and she only truly yells at him ONCE when her family is literally being abducted and he is trying to stop her from saving them.

martha doesn't have a crush on the doctor she is in love with him. important distinction

the doctor knows about that and keeps toying with her. they are a metaphor for an unhealthy relationship where one person is refusing to commit (see: the doctor refusing to take her on as a companion after half a season of adventures). again, you're not supposed to be on his side here. he is in the wrong.

that being said, martha doesn't just leave the doctor because he treats her like that. she wants to be there for her family. which the doctor also takes responsibility for because he is indirectly responsible.

in short:

Gah I hate people who make Licorice super "girly" or child like. If he is a necromancer like we all think he is going to be dealing with dead body's. That means bugs, organs and blood and probably so much more. He wouldn't scream at seeing a spider. He wouldn't run away at the sight of blood. Hell he would probably watch horror movies for fun and not get scared.

He is an adult for fucks sake. Stop making the 'pathetic' characters so weak.
