ofmd s2e3 rewatch where i pause to jot down my thoughts and other random shit

squeezing this one in riiiiight before the next two eps drop lol. anyway these posts are about me processing these episodes and if you want to read them then that's cool too. but fair warning this is gonna be a fucking mess.

s2e1, s2e2, s2e3, s2e4, s2e5, s2e6, s2e7, s2e8

show opens on zheng leading a raid and INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH. this might be the first time we've seen a raid where like. the background music is kinda moody. and what's odd is that it has like the same level of comedically over-the-top violence and characters just having a casual conversation as like, the e5 cold open. but there's sad piano and strings doing tremolo in the background. i have no idea what this means.

god. zheng is so fucking hot.

zheng saying "everyone's cracking down on the little guy" makes me wonder if the show is gonna do anything abt how the end of the golden age of piracy was like. a year off. which i only know from reading a few fics where the authors incorporated that into the plot. and there was the one trailer where we see zheng in jackie's bar while stede's giving everyone a speech so yknow what that might be where all this is going. big pirate battle at the end of the season, right?

another thing ive been wondering abt tho is just how much is this show gonna completely fuck with history. because like. is zheng yi sao gonna conquer the fucking caribbean. are we just going completely off the rails re: historical accuracy and inventing entire major historical events?? like crocs and pinocchio and pirates from different historical periods all existing at the same time and in the same place is one thing but if the characters like. overthrow england. then ofmd just straight-up exists in an alternate timeline at that point.

stede "the gentleman pirate kills with kindness" bonnet being so impressed with zheng is so cute to me tho

whose job was it to make the letter N out of caviar for the title card in this episode bc it looks fantastic. got little serifs and everything

stede taking his towel duties VERY seriously and just. dropping them on zheng's desk for no reason. even olu is like "stede what the fuck are you doing"

obsessed with the running gag of stede being like "i always say that!" and other characters being like "no you fucking dont"

stede having zero impulse control and seeing the abacus and just being like "hey what the hell is this thing" and shaking it around. me too, king.

i wont lie tho part of me wonders if stede like. going overboard with towel duty and messing shit up is on purpose. like is he playing dumb so zheng lets her guard down just in case he needs her to think he's completely helpless?? bc at the end of the episode he does get one over on her and i assume it's partly bc she underestimated him. or am i just reading too much into it lol.

but idk it's weird that olu's like "ok stede zheng is busy" and stede's just like "im gonna shake this thing now teehee"

WAIT ALSO backtracking a bit. why were stede and olu shadowing zheng at the beginning of the episode. i mean olu i get, it's bc she has a crush on him (who can blame her) but what's the in-universe justification for zheng being like "yeah alright white boy u can come too"

the two people that the camera focuses on individually are jim and izzy. makes sense bc these are the characters who i think are gonna have the most important shit going on re: the fact that they all tried to kill ed.

stede's painfully awkward smile after "um... hi." i mean honestly tho what the fuck else do you say to walking in on this

oh shit jim was totally about to tell stede what happened tho. and then archie interrupted with "oh shit, you're stede?????"

this must be so fucking funny from archie's perspective tho. must've heard so much abt this guy and now she finally gets to meet the main character of the story she stumbled into about a third of the way through. and he's kinda just some blond guy.

stede sounds so defensive too tho when archie's like "i thought you'd be taller, charismatic, muscly" bc god that's exactly what he thinks he should be. i mean ok stede is charismatic in a very unique way but his whole e1 fantasy of having a beard and being all macho and badass was just putting all his insecurities on blast. and now archie is like "this is the guy blackbeard was so fucked up over?? really????"

shoutout to archie saying "got tired" when theyre all saying ed retired

also why was wee john in this shot. like not even just in the shot he's just sitting RIGHT behind stede listening to the whole thing. he doesn't have a single line.

wait i forgot abt the nebulous amount of time between the mutiny and stede walking in on them all eating a dead bird. who fucking knows how much time that was tho. but they could've hooked up then i guess

i think i said this in the tags of a gifset but izzy says "don't cry, bonnet" when stede's back is to him and i just think it's funny bc stede literally wasnt crying. he just looked kinda pissed off. izzy continues to not understand ed or stede even a little bit.

also i love how the music changes by just playing a minor chord and then there's like a spooky echo and then. no more background music.

i just realized izzy's crutch is literally just a mop he's holding upside down. this is funny to me for some reason

RANDOM fucking idea tho but what if they did maroon him but it was on the island from 1x02. that wouldve been great for ed probably. get therapy from the old guy. have some coconut rum drink. chill out. oh well instead they shoved ed into a secret closet and left him there to die from a traumatic head injury.

hornigold calling ed "bro" was such a dead giveaway for me that this was a dream sequence or whatever. like from trailers and stuff i had already figured that this guy was hornigold and that he was probably a ghost or something but i think i mightve been questioning it a little bit at this point. but yeah anyway ed says "bro" and while obviously we dont know exactly what hornigold was like, he didnt sound like the kind of guy to say "bro"

i do love how hornigold's like "you worried you're insane?" and ed's just like "yeah a little bit!"

ok the two things i have to say about this. first: the fucking flashback montage in this sequence makes me stop breathing like every single fucking time. secondly: when theyre face-to-face in ed's mermaid fantasy there's a split second where ed sort of jolts forward a tiny tiny tiny half of an inch. and i have no idea if it's intentional. but it makes me think of how in the "you wear fine things well" scene ed TOTALLY STEPS IN THINKING STEDE'S ABOUT TO KISS HIM.

I have two sins that somwhat cohenside:

As a Cole stan for life I despise the Cole is gay HC and have had to abandon the tag because of its prevalence. Lavashipping is a NOTP and of all the art and edits I've seen polluting my Cole tag I still cant see any chemistry or dynamic between them besides they are both attractive. All the ninja ships are incest vibes (not just the gay ones. Looking at you Braincellshipping) to me as they treat eachother and call eachother brothers but at least there was tension and chemistry between the old days of Bruiseshipping. Lava's prevalence online had me quit for a long time as I couldnt understand why it randomly gained such traction and then showrunners made the dumb idea to try and bait fan perceptions in crystalized. I see cole as somewhat aromantic (although the term is mostly meaningless and used to describe anyone who is uncmfortable or disinterested with romance without analysing the deeper psychological reasons that might be the case) but he obviously wants to be a father and I don't see how any of his defined traits attribute to being the fans gay stand in besides the fact that fandom always has the urge to pick one to be the LGBT mascot and create content that isnt there simply for their own self indulgence. I like Coliel (if anyone remembers Seliel) as it leans into Coles obliviousness to advances while it shows off his honorable and protective personality. I don't find Cole particularly coded LGBT in any of the seasons up until Dragons rising, which the episode focussing it was badly written and OOC.

My other "sin" I suppose is I disown ALL of DR for being a horrible soft reboot that does everything a soft reboot shouldn't: messing with preestablished lore in an attempt to prop up these random new characters as just, if not more, powerful than our protagonists. The new writer has a horrible track record with character ensemble shows like TMNT 2012 and its a worthless slap in the face continuation of an ended series. The diologue is horrendously tacky and most jokes dont land. The push by the writers to add in fan characterizations and expand the lore beyond whats established is lazy and uninspired. There is so much left to explore in Ninjago the way it was. We never went to most of the continent but why try to write compelling stories and dramas with an already defined map when you could throw everything out the window and make your own sandbox, shoehorning it into Ninjago regardless on how ridiculous it looks and feels.

*exhale* alright. I lot to get through here.

there is nothing wrong with not HCing cole gay, especially if you seem him on the aro/ace spectrum. I'm in the exact same boat. And just because there are very prevalent gay interpretations of the text does not mean you have to adopt them, or watch them with that subtext in mind. The true potential episode can obviously really easily be read as a coming out allegory, and a lot of people have latched onto that. And good for them!

But it's just as easily read as a story about defying your parent's expectations for a career path- especially if that's something you can relate to. I think the episode works even better in that respect (cuz that's kinda more directly what it's about, but also) because it adds in this layer of also respecting the place where your parents came from and make their living with. Honestly, I didn't see any gay coding on my first watch through of that one dragons rising episode. I saw Cole's relationship with Geo as much more of a mentor/mentee thing, probably because he's typically taken on a father role. I thought Geo and Sora had more chemistry honestly, with that one scene where their bonding over rejection. That's the beauty of media, multiple interpretations! It sounds like you're letting the fandom color your viewing experience, and that's your problem. The crystalized kai/cole stuff can just as easily be read as brother shenanigans. Don't let fanon make things canon for you if you don't want them to.

I'm on the same page of not shipping the core 4 together. The early seasons were directly focused on their brotherhood in my view, so I get it. But, let's not begrudge people their imaginary LGBTQ rep. As far as I understand lavashipping took off cuz it's the only gay pairing of the main characters who could still potentially be canonically shipped together. Jaya and pixane are pretty set in stone, and lloyd is pretty much off limits. But kailor is very iffy in canon, and cole has never had a love interest. And even if I don't ship it, I can see the value of people having some level of hope that the show might give them some rep. But again, none of this means you have to ship it or feel bad for not shipping it.

Second, you've got some unique opinions on dragons rising. Cool. I don't think you're completely invalid or anything, but I do think some of these opinions might be a little biased?

You're mad it brought back the... finished tv show? The show that finished with crystalized? The worst possible ending of the show? Honestly, it wasn't that much more conclusive than other seasons. Ninjago has always struck me as an evergreen property- a world with endless adventures in it. To begrudge future stories for existing seems a little selfish to me. Ninjago should be a property that new kids can get into for years to come. I've got some problems with what dragons rising has done. I don't think the merge was the best way to go. I hate how needlessly small it makes everything feel. I think sora is a little too chosen-one-y. There are things to criticize here. But it's pulling a lot off. I think it's balanced screen time between old characters and new characters pretty well. It's established a fairly unique identity for itself, which can be a real struggle for sequel content. Again, I think you're coming into it with a distorted fandom lens which is making you hate it more. Not to say that you're wrong, but you're feelings associated with your opinions may be a little exaggerated.

alright here we go i get to talk about THIS shit now.

i was generally anti-rpf at that point, and honestly? i think it was for fair enough reasons as some people were a bit too eager about showing (general) youtubers stories they wrote about them sucking and fucking their friends. i think i was also pretty high and mighty about being a somewhat oldhead phannie tbh, like ugh do these gaming-channel-only people even know about dan being super edgy and offensive 🙄 and lowkey it was a lot of subtly misogynistic "i'm not like other girls" type shit like i was sooo much better than yall cuz i hadn't watched that video (yet.)

i was generally not into these sorts of fandoms to begin with. i wasnt on the superwhopotterlock side, i was on the homestuck/dangan ronpa/anime of the month side of tumblr, if that gives you an idea of what i was like lol. around 2014-15 i was very much in a community that is kinda similar to what you might see on twitter now, where if you had any interests in media that portrayed anything problematic, that means you are in full support of that problematic thing. if dan howell said something racist in 2010, it doesn't matter that he wasn't being racist in 2015 he's still racist and liking him makes you a racist etc. and of course, rpf is included in problematic topics. if you ship real people, even if said people say they don't mind it, you are a sick pervert and you should be in the loony bin for being so depraved. and if you write or read any fiction that has immoral acts, it means you support those acts in real life too and you are trying to normalize abuse and SA (yknow as if whitecishetpatriarchy hasnt normalized that enough) and you're a danger to children and you deserve to rot in prison (yknow as if a queer person writing stories about queer people hasnt heard that one before)

now here's the real kicker. in 2015-2017 i ran a game grumps fan blog where i did talk about shipping the grumps. "wait how were you anti-rpf if-" well have you ever heard of this thing called Lying? or perhaps even, Cognitive Dissonance? i HAD to run a separate blog for this interest, because if my friends knew i consumed slashfic about arin and danny they would stop being friends with me and think im this evil horrible monster etc. genuinely that was where my brain was at, and is a little bit the reason i decided to this day, to make my phannie accounts completely separate from my main accounts.

nowadays, none of my non-phannie friends actually give a fuck and i do occasionally talk about dnp being silly gay white boys w them! at this point i dont post about em on main just out of respect like "hey im sure you dont actually want to hear about british yaoi constantly regardless of our level of friendship so i'll keep it over here okay?"

also, yeah i grew out of thinking consuming media with deplorable acts makes me deplorable. my favorite tv show is hannibal. i know its shocking, but i dont actually support serial killer cannibals. i will say, i dont fuck with "pro/anti" language with regards to what is considered "problematic" or having that be an identity marker. i think that people are free to write fiction as they please so long as its all properly tagged for people who dont enjoy that kind of content to avoid. but i also think there can be and often are problems in the way these stories are written, and yeah if all the romance stories you read growing up involve some sort of force or danger, that CAN normalize this sort of action as inherent to romance stories/real life romance. but i think thats an issue with like, society at large, and it's not on an individual fic writer to be educating teens who read their dead dove fic despite the explicit rating and tags.

TL;DR: BASICALLY. I WAS A DUMBASS KNOW-IT-ALL BUT DW I GOT BETTER.

Brim (Brian x Tim): not my personal favourite but I'm fond of it still because it was the first thing I saw of the fandom when I had just started getting into mh. I like them more as best friends but I still think the ship is pretty good!

Jam (Jay xTim): I LOVE this ship! Its my personal favourite ship, I really love it. Its the one I started shipping as I saw their relationship develop throughout the series and the one I draw art for and read the most fics about :)

Gonna include some others even though no one asked lol

Bray (Brian x Jay): I like this one! Not my personal fav but I've grown fond of it through art I've seen from some of the artists I follow. Again, I think they'd be great friends but don't ship them, mainly because of their limited interaction in the series itself. When I have seen it its been very cute and wholesome so I really like his ship ^^

Jaylex (Jay x Alex): I don't ship this personally. I love them as friends, and I don't dislike the ship at all, I just don't ship them together personally. I love them being best friends, and I've seen some cute content of this ship, it's just not for me I guess :)

Brilex: this one’s actually growing on me I’ve seen it a lot more recently, plus I thought some of the 'friends, to lovers, to enemies' thing ive seen is kinda cool, but overall I’m indifferent. It’s a good ship tho

Timlex (Tim x Alex): again, not for me. It's alright and I think premarble hornets they could have been friends but I don't ship them, I just dont see the appeal tbh, but idk, I think it's a good ship tho!

Jayssica (Jay x Jessica): no. Jay is canonically gay and I agree with the popular headcanon that Jessica is a lesbian so I really don't like this ship or the people who ship it tbh :/

Amylex: YES this one makes me really sad but I love it. Alex was a good boyfriend and I think he really did love her very much, and I don't actually think he killed her, they make me so sad :(

Polyhornets: I like this one! I dont see poly ships often, but I think its nice! I think of it as a big qpr personally, but either way I think its an alright ship

Bram (Brian x Jay x Tim):I like it! Ive seen it a few times and once again its always pretty wholesome!

Jessica x Taylor (do they have a ship name yet? Jeylor maybe? Tessica?): I like it! Dont see it much since the comics are still fairly new and most people don't even know who Taylor is, but I think its cute!

A9. Who was your first ship?

The earliest ship I remember that I got actually invested in is Reaper76 from Overwatch. I mean, traumatized old gay men who like to shoot at each other and have a HistoryTM? It covers all the basics for me. Also this ship is what made me find AO3, so it kinda introduced me to fandom as a whole and is therefore technically responsible for all the madness that came after it.

B9. Who is your OTP?

You know, I was going to say this is a hard question because I have so many pairings I like in several fandoms and I dont really pick favorites because I like different aspects about them and also Im indecisive. And then I remembered Symbrock. And nothing really comes near the level of absolutely messy devotion of (comics!)Symbrock. So yeah.

C6. Is there anything in canon that made you want to quit the show? What was it? Why do you hate it?

Oh boy, here we go... So not a show, but allllll the shit Cates did with absolute garbage & co and what came after essentially made me quit venom comics and comics in general. Do I even need to explain myself? Like I was keeping up with Venom and also Spider-man and some others because it was fun and enjoyable. And then came the egregious retconning, inconsistencies, character butchering (both how they were written but also literally), characters dying and coming back and dying again and coming back again and fucking gods apparently and how every single issue was The Most Shocking And Dramatic Things The Characters Have Ever Been Through and everything is just edgy and grimdark and angsty and so fucking STUPID and it was just. It wasnt fun or enjoyable anymore, only exhausting and frustrating and sad. And not sad like a sad story makes you feel, but sad like watching something you care about irreparably crash and burn in real time without being able to do anything about it and knowing you can never have it back the way it was (which there is enough of IRL). So I powered through until king in black where I just said "reading this bullshit is draining and depressing and doesnt bring me anything, its not worth it anymore so fuck it" and just stopped. And with my main reason for reading comics gone I ditched marvel comics altogether because lets be honest keeping up with all the different stories and timelines and crossovers and whatnot is exhausting cuz theres just so damn much going on all the time. And why torment yourself with shitty canon when you can have wonderful fanfics tailored to your specific tastes all for free? So I quit comics, read fics instead, got into some new fandoms, indulged my hc and have ever since been living blissfully unaware of the burning dumpster fire (derogatory) that is canon. I only see glimpses of it when it crosses my dash, which I use for cherrypicking for my hc and aggressively ignore the rest.

D10. What is one story idea you really want to read but no one has written yet?

I have a whole lot of story ideas I really want to read (my hcs) that no one has written yet (that would be cuz of me not writing them). But for real, I would love more stories with symbiote & spider-people shenanigans. Like there was this one comic of Peter, Miles and Gwen meeting Venom and fighting Doc Ock toghether and they were kinda buddies? More stuff like that, that has spider/symbiote interaction besides them just trying to kill each other. Maybe it exists and I just havent found it. But like, Venom in spiderverse, they have to team up with the spider gang and they kinda get along because he doesnt have any personal beef with them. He will absolutely recite and discuss Shakespear with that medieval spiderman, be enamored with little Mayday, and be nothing but gentlemanly toward spider ma'am. The other spiders find that "yeah he is freaky and has some dubious morals but isnt actually just an evil monster, he just doesnt like you Peter". The Peter in question does not like it one bit. Him and Venom (barely) tolerate each other, as they always do when they team up, but are constantly petty and passive aggressive towards each other in a funny way, bickering like an old married couple. Because of the nature of their history they also know stuff about each other and will casually drop highly personal details about the other that makes the other spiders go "👀 you sure he's your enemy and not just your ex?". Which Peter likes even less. Other story ideas i desperately need is ANYTHING WITH ANTI-VENOM HOLY SHIT WHERE IS MY BABY!?!?!?! I need stories that let him be a silly dumbass and a pathetic wet beast and occasionally getting railed that dont just exist in my head. But the amount of content on him is just dismal. I often feel like the sole inhabitant of the ghost town that is the Anti-Venom fandom. I've come across one (1) quality fic that portrays him properly (thank you @kitausuret for your invaluable service) and good art is hard to come by compared to other characters. And I realize that if I want more art of him and an Anti-Venom x Agent Venom arch-enemies-to-reluctant-allies-to-even-more-reluctant-friends-to-how-the-hell-did-this-happen excruciating slow burn, I will probably have to do it myself, which hghgnghgnhhh will take forever, but oh well.

Well, this sorta turned into an essay that turned into an impromptu vent post. Hope thats okay and you got your answers!

alright, this is going into silly cringe era of andy homestuck skaiagalaxy oleandy’s life (some inside jokes with friends, my old deviantart user was skaiagalaxy hahah)

obviously, this will go under a readmore, it’s long, verbose to the point of obnoxiousness, and also somewhat personal! but nothing im not willing to discuss

hi, i’m andy oleandy and i shipped only rosemary and dirkjune for [checks notes] like 5-6 years.

2014 was a COMPLETELY different era from now, crackships sproinging up everywhere, and shit was a lot more free reign (more to the detriment honestly, but thats not today’s topic)

and due to a very silly, very typical of the era seven minutes in heaven rp i did with a (now ex) friend, i got into shipping it. because why not? it was different, and new and i related to june so much! rn i’m roughly 13-14, right on the peak of realizing i am not a cis woman. so i latched onto june, mega hard. she was a different protagonist! she obviously had her prickles, and she wasn’t always nice, but she still was kind- and had a good heart.

i roleplayed her for a very long time, mostly on sites like roblox.

hey! that’s me! on the now defunct EB: hey karkat! game. really good, had lots of fun there

and then i read strider home for ghostly rejects (a fic about june waking up after a possession and suddenly having the powers of a medium- with dirk being to put it simply, a ghostbuster), and that absolutely latched into a mind, same with a cup of mint tea (fantasy, centaur fic. i’m not sure if i’d recommend it now since i havent read it in a while, so i might have nostalgia lense).

but back to the ship

i spent a LOT of time thinking about it, as homestuck goes on (i was SO excited for them to meet, and subsequently heartbroken by their single interaction. such is life lol)

and then in 2016 the credits come

and i was right, june is lost and horribly depressed (same hat. 2016 was a tumultuous year for me- and that'll be for another post). i Immediately project my feelings of being a repressed gay person (and also being a repressed trans person.)

i like to think dirk and june helped fix each other, so even now i kinda. keep some of that in my canon perception- well. they don’t “fix” each other, but friendship is friendship and sometimes i find the thought of them being exes as june realizes she’s a woman nice.

sometimes i make it dramatic, sometimes funny, and often times they simply parted ways cuz it couldn’t work anymore

(obv it still becomes somewhat dramatic on dirk’s side, because he is dirk strider)

i dont really have anything left for this post but id love to continue to talk about it! it’s fun

This is from a lil note in one of my MANY unpublished kyle/demar fics to help keep me on point, SO if i ever DO sum up the courage and publish a fic that kinda hints to this idea, you guys WILL act SURPRISED and HAPPY at this BRAND NEW UNEXPLORED IDEA into kyle/demar lol (it gets touched upon a Lot in the kyle/demar owner player fic which is ALSO very long and WILL be hidden from the general populace )

BUT TO ELABORATE UHHHMM hmm so like

People HEAR kyle. People hear his shouting, his demanding, his AWFUL jokes (deebo: the chips are down kyle: like? Potato- potato chips? *extends pop bottle microphone closer to demar's interview*), his loud laughter, his unnecessary SOUND effects with his unnecessary physical COMEDY ( s T O M P I N. wiTH. the. BIG. boYS !WITH... *swaggers away from his made shot as demar giggles. Probably emphasizing his stomps just to make demar laugh MORE), his smartass comments to reporters ignorantly written off as friendly cheekiness by them despite the OBVIOUS fact that he HATES them (EXCEPT when it's to talk about.. DE-MAAAR!!). KYLE IS.. heard. Does that mean he's LIKED??? um. Well.

Kyle can be .. bossy. To put it lightly. Or an ASSHOLE, to put it now DEMARLY(beloved) but DEROGATORILY. He can argue with coaches like it's a HOBBY! And refs! ESPECIALLY refs! He can argue with the other players!!! You tryna start a fight after we get ejected from a game? Alright, HERES MY ROOM NUMBER. Deebo has the 'i can socialize well in small conversations and i WANT to act pleasant to others because i care for them!!' Attitude People go through where they're 'on good terms' with a lot of people but not... their Number one. Not really KNOWN for ALL that he Is. All that he DOESN'T say. Because what if people Don't want to hear it? What if people Don't want their 'perfect' image of Deebo destroyed? Marred by depressing thoughts, chocked uselessly full of silly Obsessions and Ideas. They just like Pleasant deebo.. Want pleasant deebo. So he gives them that. And represses what he thinks isn't needed. Hides it. Doesn't speak it into life. well- absolutes are Difficult. Sometimes he let's Some Things slip out. Just little things though. No one cares enough to put what he says into memory though. It doesn't make impact that way. He's content with it, he supposes. Because others are.

But. It really does feel Good being with Kyle. JOKING with him, TALKING to him, telling him all your 'silly little ideas', goofing off with him, proposing a MOVIE together, little roles they can fit (the matrix clip..), it feels nice BEING with him. Because he LISTENS. Even if others only see Kyle as this stubborn asshole who takes no opinion beside his own into account, Kyle really does Listen. He might make some snide comments in reply, but he Retains the information given.. the things said. They can hurt him, or they could make him feel Alive. Laugh. Kyle lives for pushing people past their 'Decent' boundaries at the beginning to see who they REALLY are.. the Extent of their Being. He gives them his 100% in search of 100% in return. And you can Bet Demar gives that to him plus More. Plus the moon and the stars and the old movies of his time and his dumb little dances and his musical aspirations and his bothersome interview interruptions and his Love... demar is More than willing to give Kyle EVERYTHING. Because Kyle Asks for his everything. WANTS his Everything. Kyle takes Demar's everything and makes it Beautiful. Let's demar know it's meaningful. He doesn't show it as perfectly Expected, but he Shows it. Demar tells Kyle about his rapping hobby on a lazy afternoon relaxing from another harsh conditioning morning. He tells it as nothing more than a mere Afterthought, just an excuse able comment sprung by music listening inspiration. But Kyle HEARS it, TALKS about it. He brings it up in an interview... the reporter didn't ASK for it. She asked about his favorite rapper. But because Kyle thinks about demar SO much and about EVERYTHING he says, the good, the bad, the Cringe, he brings DeMar's hobbies up. He doesn't EXPOSE them in DEPTH though, just gives them a shoutout. To let the people hear. And to let demar know he's Been heard

Demar thinks of kyle often. Feisty asshole kyle. Couldn't live without me kyle. The man i leaned down to while he was on the floor kyle. The man i told i'd be by no matter What kyle. Because no matter What anyone else thinks of him, Deebo will be there .

Because Kyle's a Listener.

And DeMar sees that.

It's the little things that count.

I’m glad Alina initiated that kiss bcs if Kirigan did I think it would have made the power imbalance even worse for me, but it was still very prevalent. no matter how hard she tried to make herself believe she's the one in control in this relationship… she is very much not. Also sorry but how can people ship them?? he forced her to come live with him and manipulated the people she cares about? And he’s centuries old while she's 25 at most? Wow so cute.

I love it when characters pause their important and timely task to just,, fuck. Especially when they’re gay. notable examples include Tony and Shelby from the wilds having sex under the lychee tree while all their friends starved.

Okay overall the pacing has been alright, but I feel like they could have done a better job showing the passage of time while Alina was at the little palace. The development of her powers feels kinda sudden, even though we did get that training sequence.

Mal and Alinas chemistry,,,, your honor I love them (and also I can’t believe this show has got me rooting for more than one straight ship wtf) extra weird because I usually hate the “Mal” character in love triangles bcs I feel like they’re whiney and hold the protagonist back. this is a shipping headcanon post be ye warned

ichigo and orihime are married. they live w, and are simultaneously dating, ishida and chad. rukia and renji are married. they both hook up w the karakura ot4 but lets be realistic theyre dead and stuff so we’re talking weekend visits (rukia more often tbh)

NON-DEBATABLE: rukia and orihime obviously have a Thing thing. theyre in lesbians. rukia and ichigo are 100% soulmates, i think even people who dont Ship it recognize they love each other.

renji/ichigo goes without saying too i feel, the dick-measuring bro-yness does not stop from getting higher. im talking hooting and shoving each other up to and during buttsecks. when rukia is involved there’s a higher chance of serious vibes and tender momence but she does also laugh and goad them while they’re wrestling naked so you never know. shes been known to instigate mood-breaking silliness when shes nervous also

You know why I have to write those 'essays'? Cause I get asks like this that brush over a bunch of different topics and I want to make sure I not only address every part of it but also make sure I'm making my pov very clear so I don't have people misinterpreting what I say - even though they still do - or accuse me about random bitching without and reasons or justification. Anyway get ready to do some crying cause you are getting another essay.

I know not every queer storyline has to be rooted in the angst of coming out. I wish there were more that weren't. It's the reason I loved booksmart so much. It's one of the reasons I love Dare Me, because that show had sapphic leads and while their relationship was at the core of the show. It wasn't the fact that they were queer that was focused on. Oh god I could rant about Dare Me forever.

Now my point with JJ and Pope is that we don't get the impression that the boys are currently out as queer. JJ from the start was set up as a bit of a womaniser, a bit girl mad - it would have been very easy to make that gender neutral if he was bi, as I headcanon. With Pope it's the same, I personally view him as gay, but if he was bi/pan it would have been easy to show him like that as we see him attempting to flirt on two occasions. Now this isn't to say that in future seasons they can switch it up as if it was always canon, like they did with Clarke in the 100. My point however, isn't to say that JJ and Pope releasing their sexualities and feelings has to be filled with angst, the example I gave can very easily be played a bit cutely - even if they do address the internalised homophobia that I'm just sure would effect a character like JJ - but just that based on my experiences as a queer person and what I know to be experiences of others that it would realistically play out differently to how it would with a m/f couple. Even then when to comes to friends to lovers in general the removal of physical intimacy when that tension starts to build out of awkwardness is common, it doesn’t play out the same way that ships like JB and Sarah do in which they increase in physical intimacy.

I didn't bring jiara into this. I didn't go out comparing jjpope and their interactions to jiara, I was simply speaking to how jjpope's relationship was portrayed. In terms of 'evidence' I am more than aware the jiara wasn't written to be a developing romance, anything there was created by what the fans saw and choices made by the editors. But it is also a canon fact that at the very least JJ is attracted to Kie, that all the pogues 'kinda have a thing for her' and that he has 'tried' something with her. Even if the intention of those things wasn't to build to a relationship - they did happen and that's not up for interpretation. I'm not gonna bring up the 'did you tell JJ?' thing cause it still confuses the hell out of me.

The thing with the cheek kisses is that it's not the action in itself that made it a romantic thing. A handshake can build romantic tension when framed that way but that doesn't make every hand shake in that piece of media suddenly romantic, make sense? If you compare the two scenes we have the build up of Kie walking up to John B, a close up of a lingering cheek kiss, the pull back with lingering looks and then the reactions of others who have observed it and picked up on something. It frames it as a significant moment with slow beats. That's how you build romantic tension. With the JJPope one it just flows past it, JJ pulls back from the hug, a quick peck on the check and a 'love you too man' with a smirk and pat on the check. We don't even have a second of Pope's reaction to it. Do you see what I mean?

You can love that moment as a shipper. I mean it's a great moment that really highlights their dynamic. To you it's a dynamic that you see and think oh this would play out so well romanticly, it's a dynamic I see and think oh I love their friendship. Each of those are valid reactions. But it isn't a moment that has been intentionally framed to build romantic tension and suggest a budding relationship.

Darl, I swear to god if I was coming to you with my shipping bias' this would be a very different conversation. I know I will always have them and I will lean into them when I'm on vc with shes, theys and gays and we are getting lost in headcanons but I do my best take a step back when I talk about these things here because I've been in fandoms when you have two extremes and no one relents and it's awful, I don't want to create that space. And once again, I did not bring jiara into this. My original post was not a comparison to jiara.

I am very curious about your perspective on queer coding here. Because yes, JJ has chaotic bi energy and I will die on this hill. But I do not see how he has been queer coded. Other than people seeing a man being physically affectionate with another men and insist that can't be platonic. As with Kie I can see it more, not for a second do I believe that what went on with Kie and Sarah was straight. And I desperately want to see Maddie play Kie as pan to rep her own very underrepresented sexuality! And in terms of how she's written, stuff like being an astrology bitch and environmentalist scream queer to us, I do think it is important to note that the writers of the show being who they are would necessarily have the same impression of what a queer womans traits would be. In regards to that scene in ep 1 where they have the hot touron girl and then JJ, JB and Kie all perking up and doing the nod thing? I don't think anyone has a straight explanation for that.

The 'sTorYtELLiNg bullshit that u probably learned from a youtube video' comment made me laugh cause it reminds me of this guy I had a fight with on the weekend over Remus and Sirius being queer and he decided to undermine my argument by saying 'just because you read it on reddit doesn't make it true' which... yike. Any way, maybe you do but I don't have the tolerance to sit down and watch a youtube video on someone analysing a show. All my interpretations come from years of writing actual essays analysing elements and themes in media. As well as having a keen interest in direction and editing, so I pay a lot of attention to those things and you start to notice patterns. In terms of credentials I don't have any but I do think these 'essays' do an alright job of me not only explaining my interpretation but why. Because I'm not someone to just say things and expect that to just be accepted or think that is makes it true.

RWBY Meets Paragon

Paragon is an original story I have been working on since I was sixteen. RWBY is my current hyperfixation. I could not shake these ideas from my mind until I wrote them down. So here is what I think would happen if my OCs from this story met the cast of the anime RWBY :)

- First things first: Nate and Ozpin would vibe

- Reese and Qrow start off hating each other. They both have protective natures that clash.

- Qrow challenges Reese to a fight and they are DEAD EVEN

Reese: “You know, what Branwen. You’re alright.”

Qrow: “You’re not so bad yourself, Reese.”

THEY BECOME BROS

- Reese exclusively calls Qrow “Branwen” and Qrow finds out about Reese’s old nickname (RJ) and he’s the only person in two universes allowed to use it

(Well, Nate could probably get away with it but… whatever)

- Reese reveals that he loves mechanics and is secretly a nerd and Qrow just breaks - now they can vibe

- Reese is ace but I kinda wanna come up with a bromance ship name for them now…

ON THE ROCKS

THAT’S IT

- Reese finds out that Qrow has a major crush on Ozpin and his first reaction is “JESUS CHRIST, NOT THIS SHIT AGAIN!”

- Nate discovers that Ozpin reciprocates and tells Reese and they cannot fucking believe it

Nate: “WHY DO WE ATTRACT GAY IDIOTS WHO DONT KNOW HOW TO COMMUNICATE???”

Reese: “I don’t know. But at least we have practice.”

Nate: “Same plan as last time?”

Reese: *sighs* “Yeah, let’s do it.”

- Reese and Nic WITH Qrow and Ruby?????? Oh my god, the power, I love it already

(I need to clarify - Kay basically vibes with everyone)

- Idk why, but I feel like Matt and Jaune would be buds. Matt would also love Chibi Ren, so that’s who I’m thinking of here.

(Wait, who am I kidding? Matt also vibes with everyone)

- No one in the faction trusts Ironwood

(ok, so maybe not everyone)

- All of the residents of Remnant are so fucking confused to learn that the faction has never used aura

Ruby: “What do you mean ‘it’s not a thing’???”

Kay: “I don’t know what to tell you! We don’t have ‘aura’! We just don’t get hit!”

Yang: “That sounds… exhausting…”

Kay: “Thanks, it is.”

- Glynda is so happy to have someone else with kinetic powers around. Now Nic can help clean up the fucking messes RWBYJNPR make (although Nic is basically the same age as a student)

- Nic is Glynda’s favorite outside of that, too. Sometimes they talk shit about Oz in front of him using Nic’s telekenetic connection

They both love him but also they can’t stand him, you know?

- The teasing that happens when RWBYJNPR learn that Matt and Shaun are a thing??? Oh my god, it’s relentless.

Kay: “You say that as if that’s not the vibe I was going for.”

(Does the faction bring Tide or Flame? Idk, I want them to. Not sure how that would work… )

- They all compare notes about the different monsters they face: Ruby is jealous because the Mythic have more variety, are more colorful, and sound cooler

Kay: “You- You’re jealous???”

Ruby: “Yes!!!! You’re monsters are so much cooler than ours!!!!”

Qrow: “I actually agree with her…”

Reese: “The fuck is wrong with you people?????”

- Reese could crush a Beowulf with his bare hand- not really, but it would be so fucking easy for him to fight one, he might as well

- Ozpin is FUCKING TERRIFIED OF NIC

“What if she reads my mind? What will she hear? Will she ask questions?”

YES, YES SHE WILL

She’s paranoid, let her live

She IMMEDIATELY tells Nate

Nic: “I- I don’t think the headmaster is… uh… normal.”

Nate: “Nic… what have I told you about reading people’s minds without their knowledge?”

Nic: “Nate, that’s not the point! He was talking to himself!”

Nate: “Nic, that’s called thinking.”

Nic: “NOT LIKE THAT, ASSHOLE!”

Now the faction has to fight two wars

Stray kids ship please! (P.S ILY ) I dont know if there are any guidelines for what to send in a ship so i decided to put my zodiacs, a description of my personality, and my aesthetic :)

Personality description (courtesy of my best friend, dont ask me why he wrote a whole paragraph-): Alright so Grace is basically 50% goofball 50% sweetheart. Seriously shes sweeter than candy. Also shes like the funniest person alive, its like her mission in life to make everyone laugh and whenever she does she gets this big smile on her face and proceeds to make you lose your shit laughing even more. Also she laughs at like literally everything, so shes ALWAYS smiling. Shes super random, shell like randomly break out into song in the middle of the mall (THAT WAS ONLY LIKE 1 TIME DJDJ) or start dancing in the middle of an empty parking lot when its raining, also whenever an atmosphere gets too quiet or uncomfortable she’ll scream something off the top of her head. Mostly she’s a complete sweetheart tho. Like her family high-key sucks and never made her feel loved or comfortable with showing emotions straightforwardly so she mostly does it in subtle ways (like physical affection, gifts, acts of service, etc.) Shes insecure tho, and she wants to make sure you know she loves you, so she’ll try really hard to tell you through words sometimes. That always results in her stumbling over her words or stuttering or rambling (plus a very cute red face, i may be a very gay man but i still recognize a cutie pie when i see one.) And then she gets all flustered and starts apologizing and you kinda have to just let her know that hey, its okay, i know you tried and i understood, or itll never end. Also shes like a complete romantic. Like she helped my brother plan his wedding cuz she knew him and his fiance and she just lOVED IT and kept getting this big ole smile on her face whenever she saw them do something romantic (she always goes “awwwww” when she sees little kids running around holding hands or old couples being sweet.) Shes also like the most accepting person ever, like regardless of your sexuality or gender or race or religion, she doesnt care, she just sees you as human, which is refreshing. Her hobbies are basically anything involving art (she especially likes to sing and draw, her voice sounds like a literal angel) also she’s huge bookworm (especially dystopian fiction, she lives for that crap), and music is essentially her entire life. P.S: Say hi to ur fav blogs for me (alright ig Jay says hello).

hyunjin just loves you so much, he’s got this type of love for you that’s like “I adore you so much and you’re such a genuinely good person and i’m so proud of you and I want to be around you all the time.”

he loves your aesthetic so much and makes sure to take you out on dates that he knows will make you happy

like he’s out exploring in the city and finds a cute park with a hidden area where the sunlight peeks through the tree branches

and his first thought is “I need to bring grace here”
