Summary: Draco and his parents escaped. But he finds himself going back to Hogwarts anyway.
Draco was tired. The grime had settled on his face and the rest of him, traces of a battle he never wanted to be a part of. The mud had sunken onto the soles of his boots like gunk on a gumshoe trudging through the streets of London on a particularly muggy day.
Malfoy Manor felt empty. Moreso than it had been before. Dobby had not been their house-elf for years, but even his presence would have been welcome.
Instead, Draco listened to the echoing silence. The dark, intricate green tiles lined the walls in arching patterns. The sound bounced off of them only when his heels clicked on the floor.
His arms still trembled. His legs wobbled with a burning sensation he had forgotten still stayed. He could hear the shouts of his parents as they sprinted through the Forbidden Forest, dodging the plants and the unforgiving creatures that cast their shadows upon them.
They had not spoken for hours, instead relying on their breaths and steady footfalls to guide them.
It was only when they had been far enough away from Hogwarts Castle that his father had linked arms with his mother and they apparated away together. As a family.
They never had been a proper one. Not until he had seen the fear on their faces as the Dark Lord smiled that smile. How he raised his black wand, moving in the same kind of diving pattern a dragon would when he prepared to snatch up his prey.
"Oh, Draco," his mother had whispered in his ear. "Oh, my son." Her breaths were oddly cold on his clammy skin. Even though he knew she meant them, he had been so far away from her for too long to know what a mother's love was.
They had made it home.

yknow I really didn't think it was possible to make me angrier at JK Rowling but then I found out she wrote a book abt an autistic person being sucked into a cult (that's totally not an analogy for trans people what you talking abt) because they just can't possibly know what's good for them, they need their fathers to come and hire private investigators to get them out of a cult. And in the book autistic people are referred to by the r slur and called "a bit simple".

Every time I speak up against trans/gender ideology, I'm terrified of being harassed and doxed like many other women have been. I'm terrified of being stalked and cyber bullied like countless other women have been for sharing our opinions on our own reality and sex. This is not normal. I and other women should not feel terrified talking about female oppression and biological sex. The fact that we feel this scared in 2023 talking about feminism because it will offend men, blows my mind. Seeing trans people on tumblr and twitter make violent comments like 'shoot a bullet through every terfs pussy' or 'every terf should get raped' or 'women should stfu about oppression because it's terfy' and the fact that no one calls them out and the minute they do, they're instantly doxed and bullied off by being called a bigot? When trans people make comments like this towards women, it's no wonder, we do not want to share our spaces with you people. Our concerns are valid and not born out of bigotry or transphobia like so many claim it to be - it is an exact reaction to the violence shown by tra/trans women. At the end of the day, trans ideology is more about male entitlement, male violence and further oppressing the female sex.

I occasionally see posts/get messages about the various harry potter references in the bright sessions, etc. and I've gotten a bunch of new followers recently so just so any new/younger listeners of my shows know:
jk rowling is a terrible transphobe whom I hold zero respect for and I haven't given a dime of my money to her since she revealed who she truly is. I want the whole bright universe to be a safe space for trans people (including the trans folks in our cast and crew!) and if I could go back and remove those references, I would. but I can't! harry potter was an extremely significant part of my life until...well, until it became very clear who she really was. it makes me so sad to think that folks might be finding TBS now and get thrown out of the story by these references, but just know that the people who made the show do not stand by jk, and that in many ways, the show is a product of its time.

I wanted to give her a chance to learn and grow#and she did....not do that#but TAMA was written in that little grace period#and then a few references in TCT were taken out during recording bc june of 2020 was when she really started to go mask off#and so we were making changes in real time#we didn't know what to do about quidditch#bc we were like 'this is a sport that people play in college and it's just called that?'#'and it's already canon that caleb plays?'#and it wasn't called quadball yet#anyway not trying to make excuses!#just know that none of those references were put in with any malice#and I guess I *could* go back and rerecord all those lines and replace them#but I know enough about my original audio engineering to know that it woudl be VERY hard to make it sound natural#and idk I do think there's something to be said for not covering up errors in old work#I'm not going to try to pretend HP wasn't important to me#EDIT: I've turned off reblogs for this post#also this is not me trying to tell other people how to approach their own HP fandom#fanworks especially - there's no benefiting jo in that - and I think it's totally legit for ppl to want to take HP as their own!

I wanna rant about how people will use the term "seperate the art from the artist" and then talk about fucking JK Rowling however I think I'll sound too much like an asshole so I'm just going to say I think it's super fucked up when people say "seperate the art from the artist" when talking about a bigot who is alive and whos bigotry is so ingrained in their works that even when they aren't actively involved in something it is still present. It shows a misunderstanding of what the term means and a disregard for the people that person is harming and in the case of Harry Potter has become an excuse for people to continue supporting and funding a known transphobe and all round bigot and her works that aren't even that fucking good.
#i still see far too many people enaging with harry potter these days and i dont trust you if you do#especially those people who are in the marauders fandom#they like to think that because a lot of it is fan creation that its okay but its still based in jk rowlings work#and carries a lot of the same problems that her works did#and its very obvious that the maraduers are still from harry potter so its still promoting and talking about the original series#this is coming from someone who really loved harry potter as a kid too it was my special interest for a while#but i grew the fuck up and moved on acknowledging that whilst it holds some nostalgia and i might occasionally watch one of the dvds i own#it is no longer something to actively engage with and is full of racism and fatphobia and anti-semitism and was created by a transphobe#sorry i just really needed to rant

I’m feeling inspired to take on an enormous project that I probably shouldn’t take on. So, to try and convince myself out of it, I’m asking if anyone would be interested in it:
A complete rewrite of Harry Potter.
Harry would still be in Gryffindor. I haven’t decided on the rest of the trio, but there are going to be some major character redesigns so hopefully they live up to their full potential, namely Neville and Draco. The fic will be drarry. Draco will be the bully in the first few years like canon, but I’m hoping to accomplish a Zuko level redemption arc with him starting fourth year.
The idea is still super duper vague, but it’s gonna be huge, and I likely won’t start posting stuff on ao3 until it’s finished.
The project will likely take a lot of planning and rereading do the og series (if this whole idea hasn’t said it, I hate JKR and the hp series had so much wasted potential UGH, anyways, I hope to fix that.
It’ll probably have a short bit of the trio in adulthood fighting to change the corrupt system. I’m planning on making Hermione a lawyer and either Harry or draco a politician (depends on how the story goes and how their characters develop) Y’all have any ideas on Ron?
Is anyone interested in this. I’m also SO interested in taking on people who will help me take on this project (through online communication)
Did I mention Dumbledore is gonna be a bad guy as well as voldy. I’m hoping for their to be no “good guy” and make dumbledore’s manipulation a bit more obvious.

Rant about Harry Potter and JK Rowling, stick with me here
Ok, so, I hate JK Rowling. I feel like that's a given, right? Like, she's a transphobic homophobic bigot who hides behind feminism and routinely denies massive parts of the holocaust, and I despise her in ways that I don't think words can even express. I can't stand her, but y'know what I also can't stand?
When someone implies that my mother, who is one of the most supportive people I know, and a massive part of the founding, organization, and actions of a local group made specifically to fight Moms for Liberty and school boards in our area trying to harm trans and queer people, is transphobic because she likes Harry Potter
Wanna know why my mom likes Harry Potter? Because when she discovered the series at 12 years old, she quite literally lived in a cupboard under the stairs and was in an abusive household. The magic of the wizarding world or whatever was her escape, it's the reason she's still alive, and by extension, the reason I was ever alive.
But, sometimes, not even often, when I try to express even the most minimal amount of appreciation of that, someone says to me "but isn't JK Rowling transphobic? Why would you support someone like that? Are you transphobic?"
Which pisses me off beyond belief, as one might imagine
In this situation, "separate the art from the artist" isn't exactly a good phrase to use, given the fact that the goblins or whatever run the bank are Jewish stereotypes and the house elves generally being happy to work under their masters being a straight rip from the whole happy slave myth, and those are very very important things to recognize and understand, among others
I feel like it's a lot closer to "separate the hundreds if not thousands of lives she's helped from the hundreds if not thousands of lives she's ruined", or even better, understand that the good she's indirectly done for people makes all the bad that much more horrid
My mother is the closest thing to a hero in this entire world and I will not stand to hear one more person accuse her of being transphobic purely because she thinks fondly of a book series that saved her life. I will not stand for people saying she's just as bad as a holocaust denier because she owns every book in the series. I will not stand for anyone going entirely against their point of not judging a group as if it's monolithic by saying all Harry Potter fans are bad people, including my mother. And, once again, it's not often at all that this happens, but it happens and I'm pissed about it and needed to rant
Anyways rant over JK Rowling sucks don't believe a single thing she says and don't support her unless you wanna support someone actively trying to make the existence of queer people illegal

Nations Symbols Theft
For reasons too nerdy to contemplate or explain(the Leagues of Votann, super-heavy warmachines, and the Imperium of Man), I found myself thinking about narratives where non-human fantasy-persons create some wondrously enchanted artifact only for some human/god(and sometimes Wizard) to steal it, and of course that led me to the awful way Rowling resolved the Griphook & the Sword of Gryffindor situation, and THAT led me to realizing something about the "magical races" in the Harry Potter books which makes said series even worse(tho: I havent read the books in ages so maybe Im misremembering).
What are Griphook's three main complaints to Harry?
Goblins, and ALL ~magical races~ for that matter, don't get a vote in the Wizengamot even tho they're subject to wizard-law
Wizards have no respect for Goblin ownership claims, and as a result are constantly stealing their shit
Goblins, and ALL ~magical races~ for that matter, are LEGALLY BARRED from owning, operating, being taught HOW to operate, or KNOWING how to operate, Wands, which drastically improve one's access to and use of magic(and thus are also symbols of membership in ~The Wizarding World~ which Goblins etc etc MUST live in or be summarily executed or imprisoned by Wizards)
As always, from the moment I first read the Griphook storyline and how Rowling "resolved" it to every time I've ever thought of it since, I was struck by how much this all Sucked Horrendously, but then it ALSO struck me that this is a BRITISH Book. That Rowling was and is Proudly British.
And then I thought, well, the Wizards in Harry Potter aren't even analogies for Brits they're just literally(according to English/British-chauvinists: the Irish, obvsl, disagree Quite Strongly on this issue) British, so who, in the real world, might the ~magical races~ -- always "complaining" about how the Wizards(British) stole their land, and stole their cultural artifacts, and won't give either back; enslaved them, forced them into certain jobs and certain places and certain ways of life no matter what THEY Themselves wanted or are qualified to do; are always being grossly, insultingly, self-satisfiedly, ignorantly condescending to them; hold them subject to Wizard(British) law but give them no say in how those laws are made, force them INTO Wizard(British) society but never ACCEPT them as fellow Wizards(British) -- analogize?
The Goblins in Harry Potter, and ALL the ~magical races~ for that matter, are the Colonized. Rowling wrote them as the Colonized, and Rowling Wrote Them siding with the Fucking Nazis.
