(Warning: LONG analysis) Okay, I’ve been obsessing over Arcane for the past 6 months and I think I finally have something worth talking about that isn’t already overused. That being, the recurring theme of miscommunication. Communication and miscommunication arguably drive every single character relationship and plotline in this show and the fact that nobody’s talking about it confuses me so, here we go.
Vi and Powder: From that very obvious scene where Powder overhears Vi talking to Mylo, to the very last scene where Marcus drags Vi away to Stillwater, miscommunication is the singular driving factor that drives the two apart. We see this even in episode ONE: Powder was eavesdropping on Vi and Mylo talking about her, and she hears, "You're right, there a lot that Powder just can't do." Powder then stops eavesdropping to process what she thought was Vi's lack of belief in her strength, something she was very very self-conscious about at that time. Vi then went on to finish her statement by revealing the things Powder "just cant do" were all negative jabs at Mylo meant to teach him to see Powder as his equal, which is what Powder wanted, but more importantly NEEDED to hear at that time. This is the first interaction that led to the sisters falling out.  We see this yet again between Vi and Powder in episode 3, both before the incident, and after. Vi says that Powder can't come with because she "isnt ready," Powder takes this as another example of Vi not believing in her, when in reality Vi wasn't sure any of them were going to survive and just wanted to keep her sister safe. Then afterward when Vi hits her (which is incredibly understandable, Powder just murdered their entire family and quite literally sent their life up in flames), Powder believes Vi ran away because she doesn't come back, when in reality she had been incarcerated by Marcus and sent to Stillwater out of Powder's view. Because of this, Powder believed that Vi had truly abandoned her by choice for the ENTIRETY OF THE TIME SKIP.
We see this yet AGAIN with Jinx and Caitlyn. Jinx sees Caitlyn as her replacement, since all Jinx sees is Vi suddenly getting buddy-buddy with an enforcer, which was previously both of their shared enemies being thieves from Zaun and and because an enforcer killed their parents during the opening bridge fight. In reality, Caitlyn was the one good enforcer, the only reason Vi had ever gotten out of Stillwater, and the only person Vi had seen with a lead on Jinx since she was imprisoned. Vi only went with Caitlyn so that she would be able to find Jinx. Vi had also only been with Caitlyn for a couple of days at that point. Jinx knew neither of these things, which is why she saw it as a betrayal.
Jayce and Viktor: We also see this theme with these two, although not as prominently. Jayce kicks Heimerdinger out of the council because he won't let them achieve their dream of using Hextech to help the poor, weak, and sick in the undercity because "it isnt safe." (Which is actually true) Viktor isnt present for those meetings. Instead, he sees Jayce actively bark at him for violating a block with the excuse that the undercity is "dangerous." The opposite of what he was insisting to the council. Jayce even apologized to Viktor immediately after "Youre right, Im sorry." However that damage had already been done. On the flip side of this, Viktor hid his body modification/augmentation experiments from Jayce. He covered his affected hand and leg and never admitted to the manslaughter of Sky. (Note that Jayce hid his venture to the undercity with Vi to destroy Silco's drug ring and the involuntary manslaughter of the young boy from Viktor as well). If they had just sat down and confessed to these actions, they most likely would never have split (I know im saying this in past tense when it hasnt actually happened yet but we all know its inevitable). We are probably going to see more of this more strongly later, and I personally can’t wait.
Contradictions:  On the contrary to ALL OF THIS, there are a few relationships in Arcane that GROW over time, rather than wither. Most notably, Vi and Caitlyn. They stand out for a reason. They are the biggest and most notable contradiction to this theme. Because unlike Vi and Jinx and unlike Jayce and Viktor, they do communicate. And we see how it works. Vi takes Caitlyn down into the undercity and forces her to see it as equal and human, the way the people that live there do. Vi shows Cait the Piltover/Zaun issue from both sides. More importantly, Vi shows Caitlyn her traumas and her weaknesses. Vi tells Caitlyn about Powder, takes her near the last drop, takes her down to the sump where the Shimmer addicts live and she sees the consequences. And by then, Caitlyn doesnt see them as disgusting or monstrous. She sees them as human, and as equals. They help her save Vi's life, with the aid of Shimmer no less. And then how does Caitlyn repay this? By taking Vi to high-society Piltover. To her home, to her bed, and then to the council. And Vi gets to see firsthand just how impossible it is to bargain with the council. She sees why its so hard to just "make a change," even with all of the money and power that someone like Caitlyn has. They share their feelings and their experiences and their vulnerablities, and it makes them both stronger as a result. And it makes their relationship stronger.
Jayce and Mel also have good communication. At the orchestra, Mel tells Jayce exactly why his decision to crack down on security was a mistake, and he doesnt hide his stress. He tells her he never wanted to be involved in politics, and then blames her (rightfully), “you pushed this on me!” She then explains why she did it, (he was a big face and would have huge political influence regardless so he might as well make use of it) and makes a good point. Later, Jayce allows her to kiss him and take him home, and repays it later by laying on her lap which shows his vulnerability and trust in her, and then vents his feeling to her multiple times. They have good communication (minus the political manipulation), and their relationship grows as a result.
This brings me, not to a conclusion, but to speculation of where the next season is going to go. Back to Vi and Cait, I think Caitlyn’s baggage is going to drive a stake in their relationship temporarily. Now it is definitely easy to argue that Caitlyn doesnt have much baggage, or vulnerabilites to share other than being sheltered and privilaged. But thats because unlike all of the other characters, her big turning point, her big character-development-catalyst, hasnt happened yet. Sure meeting Vi was definitely big and definitely important to her character arc, but she hasnt had the earth-shattering traumatic experience that most other characters in the show have already had. And thats because its coming in season 2. Caitlyn's earth shattering moment is going to be her mother's death. I mean we can all picture it. We all know its coming. Caitlyn running up and collapsing to a desperate kneel in front of her mother's bloodied corpse, buried by the rubble of the council room that she watched Jinx destroy. A perfect parallel to the death of Vi's family, Mylo, Claggor, and Vander. Were going to see Caitlyn loathe Jinx for it, and harshly disagree with Vi's insistance on saving her. Its going to destroy her mentally, and Vi, who has already gone through this at a much younger age, is going to have a hard time either seeing Caitlyn finally go through the same experience she did and think she should just 'suck it up' or itll break her heart to see the same unfortunate circumstance happen all over again, but to someone she loves. Either way, oh boy are we in for it big time.

Me: I haven't seen any streams or updates about what's happening on the server lately, let's check social media to see what I missed!

Me:
Tumblr media
#i talk#stupid fandom opinions that are wildly ooc don't usually bother me THAT much#but this particular one drives me up the frickin wall because it's one of the best examples of#''complete and utter lack of media literacy'' I've seen from the community in a while#just. blatantly understanding Pac as a character and BLATANTLY misinterpreting this scene#Frickin Em literally spelled it out and everyone's like ''lol mommy issues!!! how quirky!!!! xD''#ooc stuff does bother me but it doesnt normally make me MAD but this does. It's just so?????#stupid??? and just??????? I literally cannot comprehend how people can look at that scene#and walk away from it saying ''mommy issues''#Anyways I'm logging out again.#I'm going to writr that giant Pac analysis post once I'm back on desktop#but I'm gonna take a break I literally feel like I lost braincells reading that and what's worse is that it's not just one dumbass#deep sigh.#qsmp talk#fandom wank#it's not really fandom wank but tagging just for the sake of blacklist#It's not fandom wank because I'm RIGHT#I'm usually all for seeing different interpretations of a character but NOT THIS TIME#blatant mischaracterizations that are this bad I don't have patience for#Pac is such a complex character for the love of GOD please stop reducing him to ''quirky tropes'' you think are funny#Anyways. Thank you for the way you handled that ask about Wille's and Simon's drama. Because that sentence 'On the other hand, Simon needs to have a bit of more drama thrown at him' made me so furious. It was so insensitive! The fact that he suffers in silence and alone in his room not to bother other people doesn't mean he doesn't suffer enough and needs some more! The fact that he didn't jump on the table or say he feels like dying doesn't make his experience any less traumatic than Wille's. What he needs is to process his trauma rather than brushing it aside, not to get some more.
Once again thank you, you put it all beautifully.
Yes 😭 this is a very common hope for Simon to get pushed to the point of a breakdown but it’s like .. at what cost?😩 He has been thru enough trauma for a lifetime and a half. And the thing is, most people cannot actually stop and process the trauma if they are constantly being hit with more. I think we are more likely to get simon opening up if he is able to find safety which he did not really have. he is expected to be the strong one by everyone in his life. His friends try their best but still, telling him to rebound is the same message him mother gives him of “you are strong”. Bc they dont want him to sit with his feelings and cry (it’s uncomfortable and not the norm for them), they want him to forget about the Prince and move on. Up until s3 he has not had someone to cry to- thats why he writes his songs and holds wille’s sweater. Even when he is talking to Rosh and Ayub in the kitchen if he was actually crying to them i feel they would show it- it appears he probably cried on the way home before they came (this is my hc if yall think he cried to them u can believe that if u want)
i think Simon’s character is very accurate to what a lot of men, people socialized as men, and also people of color experience and how we deal with our emotions. I get that for a lot of people it is cathartic to sob but for many of us, crying like that especially in front of someone else is terrifying. we are conditioned that letting other people see u in that vulnerable state is a weakness (puts you in danger or will be used against you & that anger is safer). I know some men who have not cried since they were children and told me they dont even remember what it feels like to cry or how to actually let the tears fall from their eyes. It is messed up. Is that fair? No. Is it true that it is a weakness? No. But not everyone learns that. The patriarchy sucks and harms us all lol i wish people would understand that and have empathy for the deep sadness that simon is carrying and hiding whether he lets it out or not.
Not to mention everyone deals with their trauma differently and i think it is cool that the show is realistic and shows people dealing with things in different ways. Simons character is relatable bc of this and instead of people saying “it’s not fair that Wille gets to express himself in this way and Simon doesn’t” i want people to think about WHY Simon is not be able to. I know wanting simon to cry comes from a good place but it does upset me a little bit bc even if he doesnt have a breakdown s3, that doesnt mean that the writers hate him and arent doing his story justice which is what people say abt s2. At the same time, if he does have a break down, that would be totally warranted. i'm just saying that if it doesn't happen that's valid too.
THAT BEING SAID. I think s3 is a great opportunity for Simon to hear from Wille that he doesnt always have to be strong and that Wille can be a reliable safe space. I think Wille’s tenderness is something that Simon sees and now that they are on good terms and Wille has worked to rebuild the trust, I hope Simon will turn to Wille for emotional support however that looks.
Ermmmn I’m very sorry that this turned into a dump but i had to get it off my chest.(made a few edits for clarity and spelling mistakes bc i posted this in the middle of the night)

🤥👪🎂🪤💘
oc emoji ask game!
🤥 LYING - are they good liars? do they have tells to show they're lying?
INCREDIBLY GOOD AT LYING. +13 deception PULL THROUGHHH. he has to be tho. he had to get out of trouble a LOT when he was young. and soon found out that words were his best asset when its magic was restricted
👪 FAMILY - what is their family like? what is your ocs relationship to them? does your oc have any siblings?
no siblings! only child alert 🚨🚨🚨 so he only has his parents. and well. it's so complicated. teifling family in athkatla as a magic user. so. his parents restricted him and sheltered him a lot when he was young. he rebelled and got into fights. ran away from home but still kept in contact after a long while. but then cut off said content out of the blue. he still loves them don't get me wrong. but so many forces are working against them for them to have a great relationship. and it's not even their fault
🎂 BIRTHDAY CAKE - when is their birthday? do they like celebrating it?
going to be honest i never will understand fictional calenders and gave up trying years ago with dragon age. didnt even bother with baldur's gate so i'm skipping that
but irt how he celebrated its birthday. he just goes on to have a normal day. back in athkatla he has a 'better' meal with his family as a celebration. meaning his parents cooked its favourite dish. but in the circus, everyday kinda felt like a birthday? so what was the point celebrating what you did everyday? but yea. after the events of bg3 gale didnt let this go. made sure to spoil him even more on its bday
🪤 MOUSE TRAP - what will always lure them into certain danger? a loved one in danger? a promise of something they are always searching for?
honestly don't need to promise it anything. he sees something that's kinda vague and is like... is no one curious? is no one going to look into this? and is like well... time to find out then. like he just cannot let a thing go. it is SO NOSY he WILL find out what the fuck is going on. all the better if he can gain something from it. whether it be gold or a new spell
💘 HEART W/ ARROW - what traits do they look for in a relationship? do they believe in love at first sight?
no he doesn't believe in love at first sight. funnily captured in this moment in the game. he very much does not believe in this stuff. like the concept of soulmates n shit like that is just bullshit to him. it doesnt make sense for it that in such a large world there is a soulmate for you and it's conveniently close to you 99% of the time?? nah. he very much cherishes the bond built between him and his partner rather than the initial infatuation. usually, he doesn't trust his feelings fully in the beginning of a relationship because of this. but i guess gale was an exception lol. i mean. the end of the world and the tadpole did make him do some. less than wise choices. thankfully this ended up being a good one. but yea i say what he looks for in a relationship is ultimately support. even if at certain times that may seem like going against the other's wishes.

This is your ticket to go on a ramble of anything that’s on your mind or anything you want to go ahead and share! Lore, creations, thoughts, anything that’s interesting you lately.
hmmmm *stares at Yumi*
Well there was a silly rambles about Yumi, tho i ended up getting on the depessing topics about her, sp instead of that I might as well go to a different lore about Yumi
Tumblr media
Aside from her connections with Exe, she still remained human no matter what since it is clearly not her place to be destined to become a puppet. From his perspective he thinks that she is destined to become a timekeeper. (Tho its doesnt seem to be the case since she never handle it well and just kept a forced smile.)
She often smiles which it was too perfect no one can tell if she is sad or not.
Rest assured tho it was no fake.
She somehow has apathy to forget the cycle pain and just move on with the others.
As a timekeeper, she is the only one who is aware of what is going to happen in the future, and is the only one who knows the past. And yet it never fails to drive her insane cause its way too much information to keep it in the head to be well aware, she is human and she isnt asking to be the perfect timekeeper but literally asking for a relaxing life.
Tho she can be seen as more often creepy for a while at a first thought since its hard to come up with a lore that makes sense.
Like Yumi trying to create potions to make Yume in disguise in order not to give a heavy headache for Crowley for every public events. There were times where she has to be a female in certain events but she barely cares about it since she can tell there is somehow no consequences to that.
What the others weren’t aware is that Yumi often gets more stress than ever to the point that she almost lost her sanity, to destress it she often waits patiently for Riddle to invite her on an unbirthday party to relax or invites Riddle and the others to visit Ramshackle Dorm to have a relaxing home-cooking meals and drinks. She is a Jamil/Trey tier chef but focuses on the other foods from earth she tried to re-remember.
I do like to think that Yumi secretly create a private room where she kept her previous memorized subjects in a book she manage to find and got it time reversal proof just to preserve its knowledge, so when she needed a knowledge recap she can simply go there and re-read it again to relax more often.
Earth books are almost similar to Twisted Wonderland but there are clear differences. Twisted Wonderland books often has grimoires of magical spells and other knowledge that FOCUSES on magic, while Earth focuses on books that doesn’t contain knowledge about magic but languages and etc. Tho both has similar in common known as technology, history, etc. (Tho its highest differences is the magic and non magic books)
From what I can think of in Twisted Wonderland, people with magic tend to have more superior and power than the magic-less. Yumi who thinks who doesn’t have magic in the first place just tries not to give a damn about it since they are just human and neither the less, tho she can be wrong since she does not know which factions are WAY worser since both sides DOES have intentions but worse. From that I mean literally witnessing evil intentions that can destroy a persons mind by a single action that can change everything with a blink of an eye, bothering the change the past can’t completely solve everything since its not really that necessary (unless she is in a massive world of pain if that is an option).
Another part of the ramble is what is mostly preferable, having the mc in twst having the magic or not but that alone doesn’t seem to be interesting in the first place, I wanna ramble more about Yumi anyway.~
When I think of the twst mc, it was mostly focused on the beginning, but what about the end. Or another scenario as to what happens everything repeats but the twst mc knows what is going to happen next wanting to refix the situation but cannot due to past trauma of timeline interfering, or another scenario where the mc wanted to warn the next timeline but making a scenario from what they learned from their experiences and converted it to a scenery dream where the player themselves feel nostalgic. (Basically re-remembering a scene of a disney movie THAT WILL EVENTUALLY HAPPEN SOONER OR LATER)
Keeping the photos as a mystery to the twst mc would be a bit of a challenge since the photography not only keeps the photo itself, but the memories of why that photo is basically taken two times. Tho it never makes sense as to why the thorns covered the first card.
There is basically too much info that my brain just exploded/j
For my silly summary about Yumi tho, I do view her as a silly test mc but basically ignore her mental health just to take care of the twst boys like she is a sibling to them, tho she doesn’t pick favorites since she did spend many timeline cycles interacting with them and kept it on the camera till the current timeline of Yumi reviews the previous photos taken in the magical camera that has been taking dust.
Tho I do wonder
The magical camera serves as the main reason why it made the twst boys look attractive, but how is it still active from the amount of dust it collected when its BASICALLY abandoned by Crowley.
Tho in my silly ramblings its just making Yumi the timekeeper at this rate/j
I do want to make more ramblings about her relationship with the boys but i barely made progress due to work purposes, so hopefully I can still remind myself to make more ramblings about this one day.

(i cant spell at all so ignore the nicknames for il dottory and anything else lmao)
meili_sheep, the chilucer supreme, after the 3.1 demo, i started thinking. now i am not a very clever guy and cannot think for long periods of time but i got a brainworm and it wont leave me alone so now youve to deal with it too.
il dottory, the weird lil guy that he is, clones himself every year ya? but what it he cloned someone else... 👀
picture this, diluc gets captured during his trip to shnez by the funky doctor guy and he see that not only does diluc wield a dillusion with no (major/notable at least) issues and he also knows that diluc has a vision, which isnt on him (cause like, one of the clones interacted with di in the manga when he had a vision on him (i think anyways, might be misremembering that)) that also doesnt seem to affect him so instead of dorey being a good loyal harbinger and bringing him to the big icy woman, he clones diluc 2 times, one to send to The Cryo Lady™ and the other to send to Mondstad.
i dont have any idea what to do with this little brainrot but all i know is that
1) potential to make a load of chiluc angst eg. good ol tartaglitits finds out about dr crime and watchs experiments and maybe he says, "hey fuck it why not join in? could be fun" and sometime during that luc says something about kaeya referring to him as his big brother ((kaeya bigger brother, cant pry that from my cold dead hands)) and child(e) feels stupid guilt about whats been happening to luc cause ✨family ✨ and they become jailbreak bfs or smth idk.
and to
2) hurt diluc at the same time! (i love him but he needs to suffer, he too much like me fr).
im not a writer so i need other ppl to work with me on this one please i am begging this concept wont leave me alone lmao.
(if i ever come back to annoy you with more of my brain ideas ill sign off as "🌙🫀" :) )
Tumblr media
Meili underscore Sheep the Chilucer Supreme.
I also want to make that my Twitter bio.
Anyway. I actually do like this idea quite a bit. I had an idea a while back about Diluc being captured and brainwashed to be a Harbringer. Childe who had fought with Diluc before his captures, hates this new Diluc because he'd admired the old Diluc. He admired the wild passion and the fiery strength and with this new Diluc. All of that was gone. So Childe was secretly trying to break Diluc free. And I can see a similar angle here. When Childe finds Diluc trapped by Dottore.
Maybe even finding Diluc in a delusion state and Diluc called out for his big brother.
And Childe is instantly hit with guilt cause... that could be his little bother. So again that combined with knowing how firy Diluc was before Childe sets to getting ride of the Diluc Clones and breaking free the real Diluc.

rlly? it's that bad...damn ok i won't 😭😭😭😭yes my mother....im saying it as respectfully as i can..but she has gone feral over srk. My dad seems so unbothered tho 😭😭😭i told him the other day, your girl just got stolen by another man, how are you keeping up? HE SAID I DON'T KNOW THE LANG HE SPEAKS BUT HIS LOVE LANG IS TOP TIER AND I WAS LIKE WHAT IS THAT EVEN SUPPOSED TO MEAN???? but hey, i think my father was right.
Shershah oh yes i saw tht one as well, i think you mentioned that the actors got married. WHAT BETTER THAN THAT??? WHAT COULD BE COMPETING WITH THAT?? it's just like hyun-bin and ye-jinnn but i will tho.
I haven't heard the full album as well but yes, we're on the same boat ig. I didn't like the whole vibe. I like how experimental they are but sometimes, it just...desn't click, I personally think it started going down with the release of their prvious album. Don't get me wrong i liked it, i liked venom and maniac and case 143 but....that's it. Idk if it's the affect of stanning ateez but im genuenily losing interest in a lot og groups, enhypen? Skz? ...or maybe just these two 💀. Txt still doesn't disappoint and i hope they wont. oh nct as well-
well these are my choices what do you think??
the first one is giving kai from love shot, and mind u i will be bringing a shot with not much love in it-
Tumblr media
or something like the revenge dress?
Tumblr media
anyways i still would look like a potato.
Also, ....why doesnt the kq hairstylists give something cool to hwa...like cmon its always that raven hairstlye WE NEED MORE!!
(the amt of spelling errors i make- gl with this one baeks)
it’s yes, really that bad bc there’s a dude in there who cannot act for shit and we all love to shit on him <3 so yes <3 the first one only!!

THEY ARE THE HYUNBIN AND YEJIN,, i also recently found a new movie which u might like bc u likes the social messages type of movie, based on irl it’s called aligarh! heartbreakingly beautiful <3 and ofc u should watch devdas with you mum bc of u know who in it & jodha akbar + bajirao mastani for royalty 🤲🏻🤲🏻
right! there’s a lot of experimental music in it and it’s cohesive but it’s not a definite no from me im sure there’s something good in the album and ill click into it but so far i haven’t found a good one, i think maybe the lyrics i found confusing— but the title track really sets the tone for the entire album for me! so if i particularly don’t enjoy it it’s a litlee hard to enjoy the album if it’s like that as well! txt hasn’t yet! nct, well they are sm, their song choices and what they work on is always good if we remove sticker <3

"Through the Bars of My Cage"(name is still a WIP bc I cannot decide on one for the life of me) aka my first post for Remus-Centric Magic au
[text from the pic above:]
-Magic AU where Remus can see all magic, can even see past glamours and spell affects. Because his own magic is wild and wont be let itself tamed, he's placed in a home for magic users struggling to harness their magic, for the safety of themselves and the general public.
-His magic can manifest in the form of tentacles, especially when excited/overwhelmed
-signs as an easy means to speak when words are too much, and has specific signals for his tics, specifically a 'scream/shout' tic that happens when hes very stressed
-Roman made him a wooden Octopus fidget toy. It's his Favorite toy.
[End of text from image]
Under the cut is the rest of my ramble for this au:
I was going over a few different ideas bc I didn't know where to go with it but
The whole thing is that remus's magic is very chaotic but he suffers from a magical phenomenon that causes ones magic to have difficulty being harness-able the way one uses magic to cast spells, ect. But can still physically manifest and requires an outlet for pent-up magic to release itself to be healthy. So, Remus, like his Brother, has powerful magic within him, but because he specifically suffers from this, it leaves his magic untamed, and often pent up, making his body an erratic and dangerous conduit
But, like i said, there are ways he can work around the phenomenon, it just requires alot more effort on re's end to use his magic
But one of the scenes i was thinking of was of showing off how his magic manifests unconciously, aka through sight.
He has no control over ot, but he can see right through things like Glamours and /know/ that he's seeing through a glamour(bc people dont often walk around with chromatic-like glitter glued to their whole face, usually, yknow?) and see when things are enchanted or when a spell has affected something, or when a curse looms
So, said scene involves a very Glamoured Janus coming to visit him for whatever reason, theyve never met before, but he has a glamour to cover half his face.
Maybe hes a visitor to the home/center that Remus stays in, come to keep people company who have very little, like Remus, ect. And Remus sees right through it
But he knows well enough not to bother saying anything bc this man is very nice and very funny and doesnt treat him rudely
And maybe he lets it slip quietly that the green scales that cover half the mans face are fucking gorgeous, and grins when the man flushes and double checks his glamour, only to get a wink in return from Remus that he's good. "Glamours cant hide much from my eyes, but dont worry, I think theyre[jan's scales] pretty fucking awesome if you ask me"
And maaaaybe Janus keeps coming back for him, to meet him and talk about his progress, because Remus's magic is very fickle and very mean and most of the center-staff just dont know how to deal w/ him and often just resign to letting his magic fester.(not good, but i never said he was in a particularly /good/ place)
(Since his magic is often left to fester, it develops itself on itsown, and thus manifests the tentacles mimicking his favorite toy)
Roman visits him as often as he can?? But he's also having to work to support himself and his brother obvi
But thats kinda all ive got thats actually solidified
One of the thoughts i had was that janus could be a prince
And maybe he'd have his advisor Logan with him during these meetings, and they realize that, one: wow this kid(Remus is like. 17. Roman is also such but Roman's got a secured place to stay) is powerful in a very unique way, and two: this kid and his brother are in a very bad living situation. Like. This isnt fair to eother of them. Remus is v obviously the patient thwt gets neglected the Most bc hes been deemed 'unfixable' but Janus and Logan, and especially Roman, see right through that lie. So they offer to transfer Remus to the castle instead, where Logan can work 1v1 with Remus to actually harness his magic. He will probably never be able to fully control it, like most magic users can, but thats bc Remus's magic is rare enough that its powerful enough to nearly be its own self. His magic does what it wants, thank you. It simply just doednt have hold of the trigger. Remus does. So the best hes really gonna get is learning to work with his magic and go with the flow they make together, rather than forcing either side to take control. As soon as Remus grasps that method of practice, he makes a fuckton of progress in just. Unleashing all that pent up magic.
"My magic wants to manifest like 18 tentacles!"
"Well, could you?"
"Mmm dunno? Most I've ever gotten to was 6 before.. Well, before I was told to put them back, anyway!"
"..I see. Well. Go on, then. Let's shoot for.. 10?"
"Wait, seriously?"
"Obviously. Necktie.
If you can, and you can deduce that it, 1: wont cause harm, 2: wont break valuables, and 3: will bug you more if you don't do it and thus feel worse when you hold it in, then I do not see a problem with opening the metaphorical 'floodgates'. You and your brother share the magic core of creativity. Your core is starved. Let it out, let it play, and in turn, you will begin to thrive and feel more okay."
Manifesting 8 purple rubber ducks! Toads appearing on stools, castle paintings occasionally swirling to life, puppies that can sing, 4-6-10-15 tentacles! Manifested! all! the time! Gils for swimming in the lake! A streak of hair grown white, flipping from walking upright to on the ceiling! It's.. Really chaotic, but mostly just temporary. He's put in a more secluded part of the castle to start off, bc they really cant tell his cores intent yet, but it seems to match Remus quite well the moment hes given the greenlight to match it.
It's just. Enthusiastic curiosity! It's random and fleeing and while it took an hour or two to really gain momentem, by the end of the sixth hour, Remus all but crashes tiredly into his brothers waiting arms, and the rest of them all watch as most of the chaos melts away, back to the way itd been, as if practically untouched by magic as he drifts to sleep from sheer exhaustion.
He doesn't really reach morbid and creepy for a bit while theyre still young but by the time he does, he has built enough balance with his core that that shit doesnt manifest on reflex
Aaaand that's about all ive got so far???

Tried to find one of your Mandela catalogue rants and couldn’t (tumblr’s search’s inability to function and googling to no avail) so if you wanna rant I wouldn’t mind hearing about it
ok you are the third person to ask and i cant find the posts either LOL so i will go on the exact same rant again
basically i think like.... in some respects im being a bit of a hater bc i dont think its Bad bad, like i think theres some good aspects and i actually do like how it executes its scares irt the images, but my issue is more just that it feels like it has SO little to say and makes virtually no use of the analogue horror medium
like analogue horror by necessity almost cannot be accurate to its medium, but i think its INFINITELY better when it plays itself straight and doesnt try too hard to be scary. like the point i always get stuck on in mandela catalogue is the police training video part
Tumblr media
like this is supposed to be in a police/ambulence dispatcher training video, and it completely demolishes suspension of disbelief. the point theyre trying to get across is "there are scary duplicate people in this town and emergency services dont know how to deal with them/dont care and are instructed not to help you". but this is written nothing like ANY dispatcher training would ever be lol like "no matter how frantic their screams are". to some extent you have to assume your audience arent stupid and can understand the creeping horror of the situation without breaking form to spell it out to them
and in general in terms of mandela catalogue having very few fresh ideas. yeah the "alternates" thing is so PROFOUNDLY played out, like this specific brand of "thing that is like a human but.......Wrong" has literally dominated online horror for like the past decade or so and its just SO stale to me. they arent really doing anything fresh with it imo.
and yeah- doesnt really use the medium effectively at least as far as im concerned. i dont even really know why they bothered with it, especially given that it doesnt even try to stick to a specific medium or explain why these videos exist? and i dont think doing something Different and genre-breaking is a bad thing, but i dont think its Intentional and thus isnt utilized well (like im not personally into it but i think walten files is a good example of pushing the medium in a more intentional and successful way)
AND THE LAST THING. i actually LOVE the appropriation of terrifying old police sketches as a concept, but even then its using these images that anyone really interested in creepy shit has probably seen 200 times. like its a cool idea but im not gonna be impressed by literally the first image results for "creepy police sketches" being slapped on the screen. idk like ymmv with that bc if you HAVENT happened to have seen these before they Really are creepy, but the effect is like. annihilated if you recognize them.
the distorted faces are kind of the highlight of the whole thing bc some really are creepy but its just like, it has very little substance beyond that to me. yeah thats my rant. currently have edibles taking effect so apologies for any bad wording

gardenGnostic: every single odd number has an e in it :o
turntechGodhead: listen
golgothasTerror: Not all of them. 30 and 50 arent spelled with the letter e in it.
gutsyGumshoe: Father God.
cuttlefishCuller: If you can split a number in )(alf efinly, it’s efin. 30 and 50 are odd.
uranianUmbra: -n-’ 15 + 15 = 30, 25 + 25 = 30.
turntechGodhead: 25+25=30? you sure about that
tentacleTherapist: Lord have mercy…
timaeusTestified: One. Three. Five. Nine. And since everything else after that is a variant of these numbers, then all odds have the letter ‘E’.
turntechGodhead: you forgot seven
grimAuxiliatrix: It Keeps Getting Worse
tipsyGnostalgic: LMAOOO WHAT IS GOING ON
ectoBiologist: my head hurts…
turntechGodhead: this is why that tumblr university shit was the dumbest idea just look at this
tipsyGnostalgic: what its like calculating the tip when u r gay and also super dumb and dont know math
arachnidsGrip: You whole ass forgot a8out eight– a num8er with an E and is pretty fucking even.
turntechGodhead: why would 8 be brought up if its EVEN in a post about ODDS the post said every odd number has an e in it not every single number with an e in it is odd what the fuck
golgothasTerror: Er two is odd and doesnt have an e in it. Just saying.
twinArmageddons: diid you deada22 try two tell me two ii2 odd, ii’m fuckiing cryiing throw the whole web2iite away.

undyingUmbrage: ONE. IS AN EVEN NuMBER.
gardenGnostic: im gonna smack you!!
adiosToreador: -30 AND -50, hAVE E IN THEM,

carcinoGeneticist: OD NUMBERS. ONE. THREE. FIVE. SEVEN. NINE.
turntechGodhead: od numbers huh
timaeusTestified: Everything that ends with a 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8 is even and the rest (1, 3, 7, 9) is odd. Stop freaking out, y'all.
tipsyGnostalgic: YOU FORGOT 5
undyingUmbrage: DuDE. WHAT ABOuT FOuR.
gardenGnostic: what about it???
undyingUmbrage: THAT DOESN’T HAVE E IN IT.
gardenGnostic: THATS BECAUSE ITS EVEN???
turntechGodhead: are you guys okay
tentacleTherapist: This is art at its finest.
tipsyGnostalgic: im so done
gutsyGumshoe: I’m upset that, even with all the “zero is odd” versus “no, it’s not” stuff, no one bothered to point out that it doesn’t matter. Zero, 0, zEro.
carcinoGeneticist: BUT ZERO ISN’T ODD. IT’S FUCKING THE LACK OF A NUMBER. IT’S NEUTRAL. IT’S EMPTY, THERE’S NOTHING THERE.
gutsyGumshoe: Zero is a number. A definition of an even number is that it can be divided by two and the result is a whole number. Since you cannot divide zero, you can’t divide it by two and that means that zero is an odd number. ZEro, onE, thrEE, fivE, sEvEn, ninE, ElEvEn, and then the suffix -teen and every other number in English contains the names of the numbers one to nine.
grimAuxiliatrix: Zero Isnt A Goddamn Odd Number What Im Not Good At Math And Even I Know That
grimAuxiliatrix: Also You Can Divide Zero By Two Its Zero You Literally Just Divide And You Just Get Zero Oh My Gosh You Cant Divide By Zero But You Can Divide Zero
grimAuxiliatrix: Also Does Anyone On This Site Ever Look Anything Up

Sanders Sides RPG AU
Ok so hear me out
new au, Dungeons and Dragons / Savage Worlds / generalized RPG, work in progress, definitely gonna draw for it so dont worry about that
hoping to make it into an ask blog if there’s interest, or if there isnt, because I still like it lol
definitely a lot still mold-able here, if you have some ideas or additions or head cannons to add, please pile them on! :D
LOGAN - (moon elf) Half-elf, Lore Bard (wizard was too obvious) - inspires through teaching moments, inspirational speaking, encouragement, and maybe a rap or poem on a special day - despises the stereotype that all bards sing and dance - raised by the elven parent, this + longer lifespan = detachment from emotion - Wisdom and Intelligence high, Charisma and Strength mid, Dexterity and Constitution low - Lawful Neutral (doesn't bother himself much with arbitrary rules of morality but definitely isn't evil) - Weaknesses: bad at emotions, tends to over-speak, short fuse
PATTON - Stout Halfling, Open Hand Monk - loves good food and companionship - focus on the wellness of the body and purity of the heart and soul - calls himself a ‘way of the open arms’ monk (hugs!) - Dexterity and Wisdom high, Charisma and Constitution mid, Intelligence and Strength low - Lawful Good (lying bad, stealing bad, killing bad) - Weaknesses: a bit judge-y and strict(practically raised by a bunch of old monks and a therapist, he cant help it), quick to trust, fear of spiders
ROMAN - Protector Aasimar, Oath of the Crown Paladin (bard was too obvious) - son of Sune, goddess of beauty and passion and the color red, who really just lets him do his own thing cause she's about as close to 'drunk/cool mom but to the point of negligence' that you can get while still being loved by ur son - so, stick with me here, paladins get their powers from their belief in what they swore their oath to, right? - ideas are EITHER boy is a prince literally/emotionally and swore an oath to himself like a g OR he swore an oath to his king, thomas - either is wholesome and good - Charisma and Strength high, Dexterity and Wisdom mid, Constitution and Intelligence low - Chaotic Good (will break the rules to do what he knows is right, happens to do so frequently) - Weaknesses: super-inflated ego, insecurity issues, v strong but not actually very hardy
VIRGIL - Drow, Wild Magic Sorcerer - during an event he doesn't remember well, while travelling with his old party, they came across Some Shit® that sorta fucked them all up - he went into the experience without magic and came out of it with magic he couldn't control and some pretty bad nerves about some impending doom something something he doesnt remember - left his old party cause he didn't want to hurt them, found three new guys after a while - Strength and Constitution high, Intelligence and Dexterity mid, Wisdom and Charisma low - Lawful Neutral (follows his own code of rules, not necessarily the laws of the land) - Weaknesses: has some trust issues, Some Shit®-related/induced nightmares keeping him from sleeping good, can't control his powers and lost confidence in his previous skills (range-based fighter)
DECEIT - Yuan-ti Pureblood (I mean, clearly), Warlock (either great old one or demonic, still deciding on that) - one one of them who remembers the Some Shit®, came out of it with a deal, knowledge he can't safely share, and some new powers - seems to want the best for everyone, but harbors so many secrets... can he be trusted? - Charisma and Intelligence high, Dexterity and Wisdom mid, Strength and Constitution low - True Neutral (driven purely by self preservation and personal goals, not 'good' but def not evil) - Weaknesses: compulsive liar, short patience, the awareness of impending doom
REMUS - Fallen Aasimar, Wild Soul Barbarian - son of Sune, goddess of beauty and passion, brother of Roman. Mom hardly talks to either of them if at all, but they're pretty sure Roman is the favorite. Remus doesn't appreciate that her views of beauty are so restricted to traditionally attractive things, and started wearing green as part of a rebellious phase, but it really stuck when he started hanging around faries and they seemed to like it so much. (his mom is mega petty and condemmed him as fallen when he said red wasn't his favorite color. this is not a joke) - spent a lot of time planehopping to the nearby feywild, underdark, and shadowfell, met some strange people, and adpoted some strange tendencies and beliefs - Met virgil first, then they found deciet, becoming The Boys® - also saw the Some Shit®, doesnt remember it, but pretty sure that's because it just wasn't very interesting compared to a usual Saturday - Constitution and Strength high, Dexterity and Wisdom mid, Charisma and Intelligence low - Chaotic Chaotic (he cannot be defined with a moral tag and you know he can't) - Weaknesses: unpredictable to the extreme, some inadequacy issues, maybe crazy a little bit This is a fantasy world with several of Thomas and Friends and various skit characters inside, as follows: (I only have thomas joan and talyn rn, no idea for terrence and valerie and camden and the others yet... any ideas lol)(i hope i'm spelling everyone's names right)
REMY - Half-Elf, Inquisitive Rogue - Logan's older brother, formerly a spy for the kingdom they live in, actually very high level but prefers to sleep and otherwise do absolutely nothing - obscenely good at reading people, which Logan desperately envies - hangs around picani a lot, used to go to him for therapy (wouldnt tell logan what about) but now they're just good bros - Charisma and Dexterity high, Constitution Dexterity and Wisdom mid, Strength low (higher levels, less lows) - True Neutral - Weaknesses: debilitatingly lazy, blunt, Curious with a capital C
EMILE PICANI - Lightfoot Halfling, Circle of Dreams Druid - uses his abilities to read and sooth people really well and works as a therapist - sweet boy and housemate to patton, known each other since patton was a child - also pretty high level but doesnt really use it - Charisma and Wisdom high, Dexterity Constitution and Intellegence mid, Strength low - Lawful Good - Weaknesses: first language is refrences, refuses to display negative emotions (more of a 'i will philosophy and cartoon my way out of my sad asap' than an emotion-bottler, but don't put it past him) THOMAS
- Human, Glamour Bard (pretty 👏 boy 👏) - inspires through singing, dancing, performing, encouragement, speeches, literally breathing - Charisma and Intelligence high, Dexterity Strength and Wisdom mid, Constitution low - Lawful Good - Weaknesses: quick to trust and sympathize, puts others first (strengths AND weaknesses) - Lord of base town, with Joan and others as his Advisers
JOAN - Tiefling, Mastermind Rogue (sneaky spooky smart one, good with knowing about people without being necessarily good with people) - Thomas's primary adviser and master of secrets, Remy worked for them - looks scary, very pure. cuts cute little horn holes in their beanie for god's sake i mean come on - Wisdom and Dexterity high, Charisma Intelligence and Strength mid, Constitution low - Neutral Good - Weaknesses: You assume??? Joan can be bested??? Joan cannot be killed. Joan cannot be overcome
TALYN - Forest Gnome, Abjuration Wizard (protective spells) (cute small) - A prime adviser and Master of Knowledge (lore, history, scientific developments, etc) - favors defensive and ally-boosting spells - Logan's teacher; Logan respects and admires them very very much - Intelligence and Charisma high, Dexterity Constitution and Wisdom mid, Strength low - Neutral Good - Weaknesses: its Talyn, Talyn has no weaknesses. thoughts?? interest?? suggestions?? thank you for reading this long post lol

Song of Communion
[part 1] [part 2] [part 3] [part 4] || [AO3]
sorry this one doesnt have as much volink but :^) ive written a good chunk of the next few chapters ahead of time
Volga was right when he had predicted that Link would have to adapt to any situation and learn to harness the power of magic.  It took a few tries to point the flames that were bottled up within the fire rod in his hands, but in the heat of battle he learned to at least point it away from himself.  Their current mission in Faron Woods would end in failure if he had set the entire forest alight.
With word of a "small" horde of monsters headed to the castle and their previous squadron dwindling down to only a handful of men left to ward them off, Link and Impa joined in the fray alongside the last of their forces.  They learned quickly that they weren't the only ones fighting off the horde -- a blue-haired spell caster had taken charge before they had arrived, simultaneously taking out wave after wave of Bulbins here and there while tending to the injured.  The captain and general shared a doubtful glance between them; questions could wait.
The morale improved among Hyrule's soldiers with their leaders now fighting alongside them, and soon the incomprehensible number of enemies had dwindled down close to nothing.  Link held the fire rod in his hands with a tight grip -- it wasn't as effective as his white sword, but it proved to be of some use.  He made a mental note to thank Volga for the earrings later for sparing him the brutal fire magic that could have burned him, but quashed the thought to point the red sphere of the rod at the smiling stranger approaching him.  Impa took her place behind him, staring at her through narrowed eyes.
"My name is Lana, and I'm here to help!"  Her coy smile wavered as she looked to Link for a split second, unable to meet his eyes.  "And to warn you about Cia."
--
"Cia?"
Zelda tilted her head inquisitively.  She turned her gaze to her general and captain at her side for guidance, but they only offered a baffled shrug in response.  The Sheikah was hesitant to bring Lana back to the castle, but to deny any information could cost them the war that lingered outside of their borders.  Still, it didn't stop her from taking any necessary precautions as the silence among them broke with the rattling of Lana's bindings.  It made it difficult for her to properly curtsy before the princess, but it didn't seem to bother her.
"Yes, Cia!  She's a sorceress of tremendous power, but... she hasn't made it here yet?"  Purple eyes diverted from the trio's judgmental stares to look skyward at the ceiling.  She leaned her weight from one foot to the other, even going as far to do a little spin.  "I wonder why that is?"
"The witch was pushed back by the dragon that resides in Death Mountain," said Impa flatly.  Her stare turned cold; Lana moved around too much.
Their prisoner spun back around to match Impa's glare with a fearsome pout.  "Sorceress," she corrected through clenched teeth, but soon relaxed with another smile.  "It's surprising!  I thought he didn't choose sides," she mused out loud, eyes back up to the ceiling as she did another spin in her place.  The soldiers kept her chains taut as they could -- if she did another twirl, she surely would fall flat on her face.
"Volga still doesn't choose to align himself with anyone!" Proxi interjected.  The blue fairy flew away from Link's side to draw Lana's attention.  "We are lucky that Link has come to an agreement with him!"
"An agreement?"  The blue-haired girl blinked owlishly at the words -- even she knew that the dragon knight wasn't keen to take any sort of bribe, much less an agreement.  She finally turned to acknowledge the Hylian in question with a faint blush painting across her pale cheeks.  "Oh no, this is all wrong... So wrong!"
"What's wrong?  Hello?" Proxi moved to keep Lana's attention on her.  Lana was suddenly acting so frantic!  The fairy opted to keep her distance and returned to the Hylian's side, subtly noticing how Impa and Link's hands were reaching for their weapons.  Zelda, however, remained collected and tapped her manicured nails against the arm of her seat.
Lana sighed loudly, seemingly exhausted from the tension that hung in the air in the throne room.  Her posture went back upright, eyes shining bright as ever.  "Nevermind it!"  She laughed heartily and brought her bound fists up to her chest.  "Without my help, you guys are doomed!"  She opened her palms to reveal nothing, but by some force unknown to any of them, the chains that held her wrists together came loose and dropped to her ankles.
A collective gasp was all she heard as she paid them no mind, stepping out of the pile of chains and kneeled down to reach for her oversized book that was unceremoniously dropped to the ground.  She gave the soldier who had dropped it a small wink, even with the tip of his blade pointed between her eyes.  Link took his place to shield the princess while Impa took charge of the escalating situation.
"You conniving witch!" she roared, raged laced with her words as she marched up to their prisoner.  The fury in her eyes would have sent a thousand of her soldiers running back to their homes, but Lana was unphased, holding a hand out to halt her in her place.  She paused as so ordered -- if it were up to her, Impa would have mounted her head on a stick by now.  However, the princess was still present.
"I don't want to correct you for a third time, so remember: it's sorceress.  We don't like being called --"
"We?"  Zelda spoke up suddenly.  She finally stood from her throne and motioned for Link to lower his guard.  It was now his turn to look to her for reassurance, but lowered his blade with the guards following suit as the princess descended down the stairs. Still leery of Lana's true intentions, her feet came to a stop behind Impa.  "Who is 'we'?"
"Oh-" Lana's defensive stance crumbled.  Flustered, she held the book to her chest tightly and dropped her gaze to the floor.  "I... I didn't want to have to say it so early, but Cia... Cia and I are from the same magical clan."  Zelda placed a gentle hand on Impa's forearm to keep the Sheikah calm, having grown rigid with the idea that she herself had let something malicious breach their defenses.  Lana's figure trembled, but she willed herself to meet Zelda's eyes, pleading for a chance.  "But I'm not like her!  I want to help save Hyrule!"
"Can you tell us what her intentions are as to start a war?"
"No, but--"
"Then why bother helping at all?" Impa seethed.  "If you cannot -- or will not -- offer any more information than we know already, what good will you do for the kingdom of Hyrule?"
"That's enough, General Impa."  The Sheikah turned behind to look at the princess, dumbfounded.  Her expression fell from cold to turmoil, nervous with this idea that she knew Zelda was hatching.  "Princess... Princess, you can't be serious!"
"I am," she nodded affirmatively, smile spreading across her lips.  "Though Cia's intentions have not yet come to light, I truly believe that Lana has come this far to assist our forces to spare our kingdom from suffering at the hands of a war."  The royal broke the distance between them and placed her hands over Lana's, giving them a reassuring squeeze.  "You do not have to reveal everything at once, but I speak for the kingdom of Hyrule and say that we would gladly stand on your side in these uncertain times."
Lana looked as if the weight of the world had fallen off her shoulders.  She nodded enthusiastically despite the few tears rolling down over the curve of her cheeks.  "Thank you, Princess Zelda!  I... I could never thank you enough!"  The two women then shared a laugh, bubbly and full of mirth.
The Hylian cautiously approached his commander who was still left in a state of shock over the princess's ultimate decision.  Impa refused to show that her pride had been hurt to anyone lesser, folding her arms across her chest to face Link.  "I suppose we'd better get used to seeing her around when it comes to our discussions and the like from here on out."  Her voice was back to its flat tone.  Link nodded in agreement, choosing to side with Impa's distrust toward their newest ally.  "Thank you, Link.  If there's nothing you'd wish you say, you and the other two men can join the rest of the troops for a moment's rest."
"I'm starting to learn I don't like politics either," he signed meekly.  The Sheikah scoffed.  "You'll settle in fast."  She patted him on the shoulder and waved him off.  Link finally allowed his posture to relax when given the green light for dismissal, completely unaware of Lana's fixed gaze on him as he exited the throne room.
--
"Fire rod?"
Link had taken another detour to the Eldin Caves on their next excursion outside of Hyrule's province -- needing time to clear his mind from the political side of war, he claimed -- to reunite with his self-proclaimed ‘mentor’.  Volga looked less than ecstatic at the sight of the bulky item.  The Hylian still seemed proud of it, finally learning to master at least one element of magic on his otherwise empty belt of experience.
"Used it against an army of monsters off in Faron Woods."
"In a forest of all places?" Volga scoffed.  The boy was either brave or just plain stupid.  "I'm appalled it still stands in its grandeur and not in a bed of ashes."
"I'm only doing as you had instructed," he retorted, pointing the end of the rod in the dragon knight's direction.  "Getting used to magic and adapting to situations, remember?  I made do with what I had!"
"I'm sure your general thoroughly enjoyed the idea of her army's pride and joy leaving his weapon in the barracks."  Now he was being insulted.  Link frowned and, despite how tempting it was to let the rod swallow Volga in a wall of flames, thrust the rod in a direction that wouldn't harm anyone.  The small burst of fire dissipated against the wall of rock.
The dragon clicked his tongue.  "Pity."  He pulled Link in and cast the sad excuse for a magical item aside.  Volga anchored him in place with his hands on the boy's shoulders, bringing his head close to the Hylian's ear.  Link's instincts told him to run but with Volga kept him in a vice grip.  It was too late to escape as the roaring sound of Volga's throat releasing a jet stream of flames in the cavern filled his ears and nearly setting his scarf on fire.  Reds and oranges and even blue caught his periphery, instantly running his blood cold despite the heat it radiated.  In reality it was a short display, flames no longer burning in his ears when the dragon knight shut his mouth, but it felt like an eternity.
Link changed his mind on thanking him for the earrings -- he wouldn't dare feed the ego that bled into Volga's voice.
"Come back when you have something worth sharing."

ALL THE WAYS THE PET SEMATARY REMAKE IS BAD
SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY FOR EVERYTHING
1. This movie blames Rachel for EVERYTHING. This is the big main thing that bothers me throughout the film. Rachel is at fault, either directly or subtly, throughout the film.
First off, Rachel is the one who fears death so much she cannot bear to prepare her daughter for the possibility of Church dying, while the original actively had them trying to get Church fixed so he wouldn't wander around so much and thus, less likely to die. This wouldn't bother me so much, but LOUIS is the one who okay talking about death and wants to talk to Ellie about it and wants to not shield her from the truth that Church could die. This...ruins the whole narrative thrust. Louis is supposed to be fearful of death, shying away from exposing his family to it in any capacity, to the point where he avoid any kind of confrontation and causes the whole problem. Louis and his inability to handle death when it hits home is the whole POINT.
But furthermore, Rachel is the one who doesn't want to tell Ellie about Church dying! Louis WANTS to tell her but Rachel convinces him to tell her that Church ran away and tells him to go bury Church in secret. So inadvertently, it's all Rachel's fault. If Louis just talked to his daughter about death, and her dead cat, none of this would have happened. It completely removes accountability from Louis, when that is his whole tragic flaw.
Look this wouldn't bother me so much if Rachel were the main character instead. You want to make it her fault this happens, that's okay! But make her drive the story then! Don't do it as a way to absolve Louis of further responsibility!!!!!!
FURTHERMORE!!!! YES THERE'S MORE. After Ellie's death, Rachel is the one who decides to go away and leaves Louis behind...for reasons. Like yes I understand why she would want to get away from this awful place, but the movie completely cuts out the subplot of Rachel's parents hating Louis, so there is no reason for him not to go. But this also removes Louis actively conspiring to get Rachel to go away so he can go do a bad thing. It's a small thing but a really important thing that means Louis just doesn't come off as badly as he did in the original. The original movie is about grief but it's also about the folly of a man who is unable to let go or listen to anyone around him, and making terrible decisions that he hides from the female members of his family that ruins them all. It's so clearly obvious the male directors did not want Louis to look TOO BAD. Trying to remove accountability from Louis ruins the whole point and the tragedy as well. If Louis doesn't make these choices, if held held back from accepting death because his wife asked him too, how can this be his fault.
2. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE ON RACHEL'S HANDS.
In the original, Rachel recounts her sister Zelda's death in a scene with Louis and explains that she wanted her to die and she felt awful for wanting that. Louis comforts her and tells her she did nothing wrong and her parents were awful for putting her through that. Then insists she takes a valium for her anxiety because LOLZ THE 80s AND CASUAL DRUG USE, MAN.
Here, she tells Louis the story but explains that she ACCIDENTALLY killed her sister, by forcing her sister--who can't get out of bed--to crawl to a dumbwaiter to get her food where she falls in, because Rachel was too scared.to go up to her and give her the food herself. Now, I don't have a problem with this, this doesn't make her a bad person in my eyes, but the change itself puts some responsibility on an EIGHT YEAR OLD KID for her sister's death in a way that the original movie and book didn't.
Then later, reanimated Ellie says YOU PRAYED YOUR SISTER WOULD DIE like it's an evil dark secret that she's revealing. AS IF THATS SOMETHING A EIGHT YEAR OLD NEEDS TO FEEL BAD ABOUT. AS IF THAT MAKES RACHEL ACTUALLY TERRIBLE.
God I hate this change the most because I adored the original for going there with the themes of grief and exploring all the ugly messy emotions involved in grief and not just dead children but prolonged illness. And demonizing those emotions for a cheap shocking reveal at the end is not dark and mature storytelling, its childish.
3. Also holy shit this movie mishandled Zelda so badly. They have Zelda straight up threaten Rachel and say she hated her and she was going to end up just like her. Her NEVER GET OUT OF BED AGAIN line is an actual threat to her. It was a weird demonization of an ill woman, when the original was already sketching the line in its portrayal of meningitis, but this was so much worse. Those words are manifestations of Rachel's anxiety!!! THEY ARE NOT ACTUAL THREATS. IT'S JUST RACHEL THINKING HER SISTER MUST HATE HER.
The whole scene is played for weird jack in the box jump scares instead of the existential horror of watching your sister be ravaged by disease when you are too young to understand what that is.
4. Ellie is this weird perfect angel child, and it bothers me. In the original story, she's scared of the pet sematary at first. She has a great speech about how Church is her cat, not God's cat, he can't have him! She cries and storms off and throws tantrums and says SHIT. She is a regular kid, basically. In the book, she actively annoys Louis! Here, she's just...boringly perfect. Everyone loves her. She never gets angry. She never cries. She doesn't even seem upset when Church attacks her. Jud is enchanted by her, literally saying he is under her spell, WTF. This wouldn't be so bad in general, bad writing for a child but not necessarily awful, but it bothers me the most here because it's all set up for when Ellie dies and comes back as a total monster. Ellie cannot actually be her own character but a pedestaled symbol of a child for Louis to cry over, and for the audience to feel horrified by when she returns as a shell of herself. At least when the original did that with Gage, it made sense, because he is a TODDLER and they have no real personalities. We as a whole tend to over idealize babies and the only thing you can really do with Gage narratively is make him a symbol.
5. Speaking of Zombie Ellie, I wanted to be open to the whole Ellie dies and comes back thing! I hated the idea of it initially but I was hoping it'd be interesting. I liked the beginning, with Ellie being set up as fascinated and drawn to the pet semetary to begin with, and I was kinda hoping the movie would follow her pov instead. After all, I love a good monster girl story and I was really intrigued by the idea of Ellie being AWARE she's been reanimated, and angry about it, upset about it. But tbh, I think the movie in general seemed to go with the idea that Ellie is not Ellie at all but the wendigo, acting through her.
But it was BAD, partly because the actress was not good--not her fault she was given poor direction and shitty material and she's just a KID--but also partly because these dudes just don't know how to write women and don't know how to write girls and didn't really grant the reanimated Ellie any actual humanity or depth. She existed to torment those around her, like she was seeking revenge, rather than coming back wrong as something monstrous like child Gage in the original. She came off as a generic creepy girl child who was possessed.
HONESTLY just having Ellie speak was a terrible idea. I sort of get what they were going for, after all,in the book, undead Gage speaks and knows things he should not know, and Elie as an avatar of...the wendigo *TAKE A FUCKING SHOT* would do the same, I get that they were doing that. But oh god the batman voice they gave her and the terrible lines sounded so OFF. She would have been creepier if she didn't say anything or at least, spoke in a regular little girl voice. It would have been creepier if she was clearly not Ellie and Louis didn't care--they kept going so back and forth on Louis in these scenes, first he is scared of what he brought back and uncomfortable with her and yelling at her, but then he is all HUG YOUR DAUGHTER!!!!!!! GOD CAN HAVE HIS OWN CHILD!!!!! And then he is back to wanting to kill her. But honestly, I don't need the movie to have done things my way, just...not this. This was terribly executed.
6. Speaking of, they were doing some weird...psychosexual Elektra complex with undead Ellie and Louis. First the shot with both of them in the bed together is mirrored earlier with a shot of both Rachel and Louis in bed together....okay then. I mean. That doesn't mean anything. Maybe I am just misinterpreting. But then Ellie is like SHE DOESNT WANT ME HERE AND I DON'T WANT MOMMY HERE (but she still...reanimates her...for reasons. Why. I don't understand).
Then Ellie attacks Jud and wears the face of his WIFE TO DO IT and torments him like that.
Why. Why would you do this. I hate these writers. These are the worst choices.
7. THEY GAVE ELLIE'S PSYCHIC POWERS TO GAGE I'M SO ANGRY ABOUT THIS.
8. This movie legit single perfect tears Louis during Ellie's funeral. Are you kidding me. A single perfect tear. FOR REAL. THIS IS A MOVIE ABOUT GRIEF.
9. A lot of the promo material before the movie came out made a big deal about staying truer to the book than the original and it being an adaptation of the book, not a remake of the movie. Sure, but they barely do anything with wendigo and I'm kinda glad, because the whole INDIAN BURIAL GROUND is a bad trope and King's depiction of the Wendigo is soooo wrong and misinformed and terrible but like..this movie didn't do anything with the mythology except name drop it.
10. I AM ACTUALLY MAD THEY MADE CHURCH EVIL. Like this is nitpicking I know but!  In the book, Church (and the reanimated dog) isn't actually evil, he's a zombie. Hes described as not quite how to be a cat anymore. And even in the movie, Church doesn't do anything sinister. He only attacks Louis and who could blame him, and he never hurts Ellie at all. She still sleeps with him in her bed. So I am honestly annoyed they had Church actively attack Ellie jklasfasda
11. Oh my god let's talk about Pascow. WHAT THE FUCK HAVE THEY DONE TO PASCOW. They completely neutered him and made him just a generic ghost, for the most part. Pascow is cheerful in the original, while also being creepy yet relatable. You can really emphasize with his sheer helplessness to stop the tragedy from unfolding. But none of that comes across here. Maybe they wanted to maintain the completely SERIOUS tone, but ultimately Pascow is supposed to be a soothing presence. He is there to remind people that death isn't evil and something that needs to be accepted. He isn't supposed to be there for jump scares, and then completely disappear for the most part.
12. Also the optics of casting a black man for Pascow , and then completely and grotesquely fucking up his face so bad his brains are exposed in his scenes...while Ellie also gets hit by a truck and she looks completely okay, like a perfect corpse angel is just. Gross and bad and racist and sexist ALL AT ONCE, AMAZING.
Like look, I don't WANT to see a mutilated gored up child, sure, but it's so shitty that both these characters get hit by trucks and the black man looks like....he got hit by a truck but the white child looks fine. She looks fine. Her head is stapled and her eyes are a little mismatched but fine.
13. THE EDITING IS SO BAD. It feels like they couldn't WAIT to get to the ending fast enough so scenes will literally smash cut to the next right in the middle of an action. There was a moment where Church is hissing and then it just CUTS immediately in the middle of hissing, he doesn't even get to finish hissing! Just cut to the next scene! There is no lingering on a moment to just process. Things just happen.
14. The story of Timothy, the person who was brought back one time, is just a footnote in this movie. It's barely relevant. That was a such a great creepy moment that underscored the whole movie and it's themes, and it's just gone.
15. Why is Jud so creepy. He literally looks at Louis and the family from a distance and ominously smokes a cigarette and he's so mysterious for no reason and even his first meeting with Ellie he yells at her and then is like WHAT, CAN'T YOU READ about the pet sematary sign. WHAT ARE THESE CHOICES. For a moment I thought Jud would be evil but no he's just weird and creepy for reasons? The movie sacrificed his and Louis' relationship to build one with him and Ellie, which is cute but also kinda bothers me because it's really to just make Ellie look like she is SO IMPORTANT TO JUD and that's why he tells Louis how to bring her cat back and it's…weird. Jud seems overinvested in the family and kids that aren't his rather than like, being friends with them all.
Jud is CHARMING. You fall in love with his kindly old man gentleman nature. He feels like everyone's grandpa. He is warm and delightful and it's such a shock and horror when he dies in such a brutal way. Trying to frame him in shadow with an ominous cigarette reduces the warmth of the character for no reason!
Furthermore, Jud's warmth is meant to obscure that he's ultimately rather weak himself, in character, just like Louis. He's not entirely at fault for the events but he cant help himself in telling Louis about burying church, rather than implying that the dark power is literally ensnaring him to make Louis do it jaksfsadfasdfa
16. LOUIS LITERALLY DRUGS JUD LIKE A DATE RAPIST WHAT THE FUCK
17. Guys, you can't just turn on a fog machine on your set and say you're an atmospheric movie. HAVING FOG IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR GENUINE DREAD.
18. The ending is just bad. I REALLY WANTED TO LIKE zombie family but its filmed like for cheap shock, rather than genuine horror. I love dark endings, but it didn't feel like a tragedy the movie should be, it just felt like the hand of the writers were trying to do a different ending to say SEE THIS IS DIFFERENT! LOOK AT HOW DIFFERENT AND DARK WE ARE. I just...hate the whole framing. I love the idea of the whole family being reanimated but I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY. Ellie wanted to torture them like she is being tortured? That's a great concept but it's not really a thing in the movie. You can't tell if Zombie Rachel or Zombie Louis feel any kind of horror or torment at their own state, which undercuts the whole reanimation.
Ok in the interest of being fair, here are some things I liked.
1. I do genuinely love Ellie in this movie at the beginning. I liked the idea of her being drawn to the cemetery. I really liked the scene where Louis is giving her a bath and he sees the staples from the autopsy. I loved the bits when it was sort of suggested that even she didn't know why she was back and where she had gone and did not understand why she could feel the woods inside her. I wish we just expanded on that more.
2. Church. Church is great. Church is always great. Best cat, did no wrong. This movie did not kill the cat off for good, so that is a bonus.
3. There's a moment where Louis is trying to justify bring Ellie back to life and Rachel is just staring at him agog and horrified and Louis is wild eyed and shaking and it's the most terrifying moment in the movie for me. Not Ellie or the wendigo, but LOUIS, having completely lost it and not giving a shit that he has an undead monster daughter right now. SO GREAT. The movie undercuts it later by having him realize he ~needs to kill Ellie~ again and like...no, go full steam ahead with that.
4. SOME SHOTS LOOK GOOD I GUESS
In conclusion MEN ARE DUMB AND SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN WOMEN'S FILMS TO REMAKE

// relationship meme: ? + so idk exactly how this would go ok but i can see them being like… weird… it’s-complicated frenemies (with benefits maybe???) ‘cause hhhhh i mean… she can push his buttons and he’ll push hers back, and also he’s… he doesn’t think she’s really all that weird tbh. like. aliens? sure man. we’ve got elves, beastfolk, and demons-in-all-but-name; what’s the difference… everyone’s weird here. and he’s also like, the first muse i’ve had that isn’t gonna bother trying to change her like. she doesn’t want that. he can tell. it’s obvious. she’s just Like This. lmao. …he might “save” her here and there if she like, collapses bleeding in front of him, but he’s very aware that he can’t just uhh… replace bits of her with functional machinery… she’d probably smite him… can’t have that… not bc he cares if she hates him any more than he cares if other people hate him, but bc like. if she smacks him for smth like that, his apostles are gonna wanna burn her at the stake hhhhhahaa. assuming defaultverse. idk. maybe he’s dead. maybe he’s dead, actually, and refuses to let her go 'cause he’s lonely or w/e. or bc he has no idea what universe he’s in and he literally knows nobody else rn, and better the lil shit u kno than the lil shits who won’t be super open about their desire to stab u in the back if they decide they wanna… mm
he’ll still carry her unconscious to bed and drop healing spells on her, tho. just 'cause. just 'cause she’s dying and he doesn’t want her to. for. reasons. catch him doing it again in 2 hours when she gets up and pushes herself too hard too early in this recovery period
…also ngl i just really want her to drag him somewhere loud and obnoxious and public (so, like, a party, basically) and embarrass the living hell out of him so he can get her back later by doing something Good And Nice for her and be Totally Smug And Justified about it during all of the time he’s doing so
&&. i’d also be interested re: how the fuck the… fucks… would happen idk but in theory tho, like. she’s a dom. he’s a dom. he’s mostly a service top actually but she’s infuriating so he’s a Dom, damnit. he has PRIDE 2 worry abt. WHAT DO
i mean idk if she’d even wanna (but if so, uh, spoilers: she doms. the only one surprised is him)
also, consider: she’s substantially shorter than him but she can fly and i’d laugh to see her hover-kabedon him somewhere.
idk i just have THOUGHTS and they have POTENTIAL and i want them to LOVE-HATE each other in a way that supposedly stems from indifference on both their parts but very obviously does NOT. UGH
(i’d send this in ask but character limit &&. i’m too lazy to break it up into multiples oops)

THE GREAT ND REWATCH OF 2021 / OCTOBER 5, 2019 // return of josh
oooookay folks! that's a wrap! below are my comments about tonight's ep + additional expansions on previously stated opinions. i'm not combining s2 ep 1 with this bc s2 is dead to me! so is s3! i only did this to gather up all these loose thoughts i had when this show with its one lonely season became such a comfort to me that i developed a second consciousness about it. but with these posts i am done! the evil is defeated! i will carry on through the 3rd and hopefully final season of nancy drew with less emotion and better spirits. thank god.
-"talk to owen" nancy firstly thinks of talking to owen only to see what happens w the agleaca; saying goodbye comes as sorta an afterthought mirroring tiffany's possession of george. yet nancy was unable to say goodbe to owen just like w kate. knowing this reveal about kate, i wonder if this was foreshadowing that something big will be revealed about him later? unlikely but still
-nancy + the reality of broken things: 'totems' like broken sand glass sculpture (good place) to show you it's not a dream; "owen broke that" ghost trap to ground him to reality, like how she reached for her locket in the good place, lucy's charm, ace's bear ('totems' idea borrowed from inception)
-george has never been an affectionate person, even with other women- so why does pda with nick suddenly become so important?
-lots of comments about ryan + women but what about carson/kate and karen? again with the hypocritical (interestingly, there is an aspect of violence to women connected with ryan (even though that violence is not his fault); but its not like kate or karen fared well either)
-ryan feels useless- relationships with women as stated by nancy- he seeks to redeem himself by showing up where nancy goes to prove he is good to have around/necessary/needed - but now that he is attempting to act as a parent he has to break through nancy's defenses all over again- firstly she didnt really consider him any kind of threat bc he comes off as incompetent- ie bad business deals- i think i mentioned last ep, their hauntings equalize them as they both attempt to gain peace by searching for answers but now ryan has changed the terms of engagement so he's back to square one, with carson. (which is how we find them s2 cowering in ryans car stalking nancy together)
-ryan's relationship to nancy exposes an interesting layer here. so far she doesnt know about nick/george but they still hold the cards (ie george gets one over on nick's ex/"the new girl") with the revelation of ryan being nancys father, nancy gains an interesting trump card in navigating the social fallout of being nick's ex. like george would take the new spot but then nancy comes out with george's ex in a much higher category. this plays out later on in the ep when george confronts ryan. george wants to talk about "them" but ryan shows up completely focused on nancy, thus illustrating the trump
-"i thought it was whitney with another insipid question" to me this sounds like whitney took bess's advice earlier about "asking aunt diana what she wants" (only to learn it actually annoyed the hell out of diana lmaoo)
-"then you need to fight for it" this hearkens nancy earlier by asking "arent you in by virtue of dna?" the test was positive; she is a marvin just like nancy is a hudson. thats not a fact that they can change. however, diana really acts like it can be changed- and in s2 we see it does change. its interesting for bess to be told to fight to be in a family she's already in and also foiled by nancy trying to fight her way out of her own family. would like to see bess stand up to diana and say something. i mean, she exists. as much as she may want to erase bess from the family, diana cannot erase her existence
-hannah's rolled up sleeves 💙
-"previous keepers records" -from s2- were those not her parents??
-mistaken murderers- everyone incorrectly assumes lucy was murdered just as they assume the agleaca killed owen
-even if owen weren't the price, how can they pay the toll without one of the people who called? i mean if it was anything other than owen and he still died they still wouldve been fucked
-"you don't need to check, i'm not even driving!" okay and giving up the goss. cassidy is me. lmfaoooo
-wonder if this locked marvin industries box will ever come back
-UNPOPULAR OPINION: george's confrontation with ryan comes waytoo late to do anything. i think i brought this up in an earlier post. its literally just her screaming at him now. like he is clocked out moved on. you know a good time for this scene? in the claw when he comes by to "check on her". hes vulnerable, fresh from rehab. and she has a chit over him for punching bookcases/the fuckin country club deal. therewould have been a perfect time to confront ryan on what happened- "what you did to me" okay sis. you admitted ep 1 you werent in hs anymore. youre of age now. admit you fucked up. take the L to force him to swallow the bigger L. and imagine how much more powerful the scene would have been- in george's domain, literally her own office, something ryan doesnt even have because HE DOESNT DO SHIT. ryan is SO EASY to trap but nobody notices. instead they have george try to get some kind of apology out of him when hes already done with that, and only for the sake of her establishing a new relaionship to boot. imagine how much more empowered she would feel if she just got that closure for herself- because she needed it, not so she could trot straight back to nick being all proud of calling a grown man to some random estate only to scream at him in a parking lot and have accomplished nothing. 🤦🏼‍♀️
-i get patrice thinking nancy is lucy but yeahhhhh this isnt how dementia works 😬
-i almost cant with nance and josh. how do you save your would-be murderer? (+ lucy's best friend and brother are in jail, her mom is lost to her mentally; all she has left is nancy and ryan)
-tbh i had no idea how to spell agleaca until bess said "theres no i in agleaca!" i thought it was igleaka like 😂
-damn how george just stares at nicks hand and then gets out herself is just so sad (like she immediately rectifies it but still...)
-"curiosity" part II; nancy who comes back to the sea after her mother died in it- agleaca drawn to lucy's trauma/to agleaca, lucy died fir "love"- would nancy be willing to risk the same? // this is also one of nancy's "mirroring mom" moments: winning sea queen, going to the velvet masque, getting caught by celia, having a "chat" with everett, and "falling" off the bluffs
-the collector 🎵👌🏻
-i wonder if there's any significance to the locations/means of their deaths; nancy's is pretty straight forward in terms of where and how, but why george and nick drowning, in the truck specifically? drowning in love? idk. ace's at the claw i get, but he gets himself caught? in what precisely? what does the fish hook mean? and bess's makes the least sense- burning alive? in the marvin estate? maybe the agleaca picked the most painful death for the marvin blood relation? idk. up for debate lmk ya thoughts
and lastly:
-i remember seeing this ending for the first time and i had just been traumatized by avengers endgame and since black widow is also a redhead seeing that shit at the bottom of the cliff it was like 😰😰😰 TOO SOON
-random thoughts-
these are just things i noticed, feel free to grapple with them or take note of them for extrapolation in s3 (lord knows i wont be) they probably belonged in recaps for previous eps but i either didnt find them in my notebook or couldnt fit them in
•nancy and truth/the perception of truth: using facts to suit theories instead of creating theories to suit facts- nancy often plays with the perception of truth and the details that fall between the steps; but she is also a victim to them by people who also know how to play the game (ie Carson) ex lying about the dress (tea cups and knives, trash got picked up, bail paid 1 hr ago) her inferences can be off from what others tell her ("people always lie") but she can also come to the wrong conclusions organically (carsons trial) more willing to believe the best in others/wanting them to be innocent (think nick ep 1) but later finding out the truths hurts more so she chooses to isolate herself and avoid involving others to be spared pain
•maybe i'm dumb, but who is "mr marvin" exactly? owen? the bald guy from the funeral? this comes from the guy who takes sailboats out like ep 4ish and says "ive worked for the marvins 20 years" she compliments the ship, he says "mr marvin and i just took her out this morning" so?? who is that? plus last ep just saying cassidy and isaac are her "late husbands children" dows thet mean sebastian? like did diana marry in? i feel like it would be odd for her to so embrace the "marvin way" if she wasnt a true born marvin
•ik college becomes a more s2 topic but none of the crew have ever been to college 🤔
•nick + the relationships with people whose reputations are tarnished: tiffany with investigating the hudsons/marvins, josh with murder/attempted murder, kate and 'stealing'/lying about nancy (esp compared to her almost preternatural kindness i mentioned before), george and her mom/family's reputations --> this kind of segues into nick + the concept of believing people you love could be capable of horrific things- accidental or on purpose (see- having to tell his family what happened)
•at the beginning, nancy kind of seems to be the "i'm sorry you're upset" kind of apologist and knows it. she also doesnt usually apologize earnestly bc shes never really sorry (she always has to get what she needs first ie coins mess) and she doesnt want to lie; to me it seems she doesnt like to bother with other people bc they require certain cues/niceties that are often lies- they ask "how are you" without meaning it, they dont really want an honest response except "fine", they dont like it when you call them out on fakeness, etc/ they require apologies for their bruised feelings even if youre right (and nancy can be pretty rude/nasty if provoked- a harshness unsoftened by sympathy)
•cont'd from the good place ep- since kate apparently means nothing to nancy anymore according to last ep ("stop calling her my mother") is her policy of "always seek the truth" now null and void? this mantra is now tainted bc the person who gave it to her broke it so much. can nancy disengage w it now? does she fall from grace to be complicit in "mysteries" of her own like everyone else? does she lose some of her "god-like" holier than thou act bc she is now literally born and raised in the "darkness" of sins/ugly truths like everyone else's? (ie truth is ugly but not to nancy, until now)
•did lucy disappear because her "murder" was finally solved? or simply because her trauma was addressed- she never meant to tell anyone about her suicide plans, the twisted trauma of which was too great to contain/unable to move on due to "sin" - or unable to move on because secret of nancy's parentage still remained? "lucy never wanted me to figure out how she died" she only wanted nancy to figure out her parentage without solving the mystery, yet did lucy see/witness nancy's revelation at the claw, or with carson, or even ryan? waiting for karen/josh to know? or just vanished?
•concept of imperfect mom figures- lucy, kate, celia, victoria, even karen- who all struggle with failings
•since karen dispelled one of lucy's attempts at nancy's haunting at the garden party, is that proof she isn't haunting karen?
•the crew + needing adult help: george's possession and victoria, club busted and owen, car accident and mcginnis, thom and cipher, larkspur lane and sal, bones and john, agleaca and hannah
•everett is always sitting- at his home office, at dinner, at yacht club (wonder if that was his actor + had to do with his recasting?)
-dad talk-
•both her dads think negatively on her "girl detective" thing but ryan sees use in it as a means to get answers, carson would never 'use' her in that way
•nancy + carson : suffering
"what about what i wanted?" + carson being imprisoned for weeks but she immediately rejects him (the DAY he gets his freedom no less) with no regard to his suffering (caused by herdiary!!) in regards to her own from this new knowledge (she does suffer a lot- "almost dying is my new normal" but still)/ the "thankless job" of parenting
•nancy + adults - connected to cop thing a few posts earlier : nancy is v precocious and smart for her age- she is "old enough" but also has trouble with the "adults" in her life- fathers, moms, karen, and cops letting her down but depends heavily on "adults" she cantrust- hannah gruen, john sander, lisbeth- highlighting her youth and occasional naiveté; nancy is unafraid to hold adults accountable for their actions (ie karen) but also loses them as allies along the way. both hannah and john are very nonthreatening and also experts in their fields, while her fathers and karen are revealed to be "just another brick in the wall" average, capable of mistakes, and not the people she expects them to be, while characters like john and hannah can only benefit nancy because either they do not mean as much to her or have no reason/nothing to gain by lying; they are purposefully shown to be small, demure, gentle, and nonthreatening as foils/opposed to karen, ryan, and josh whom she previously trusted; carson (+kate) is nonviolent as well but has the biggest betrayal which is perceived as an act of violence to her very personhood/shattering who she thought she was so she cannot be that anymore (admits truths to john "everytime i dig i hurt everyone" and hannah-agleaca) : unclear if redemption is possible for anyone :
•nancy bonds with carson over loss and then ryan over haunting. but actually, nancy rejects carson over loss bc she wanted to say goodbye and wasnt allowed to- so carson was with kate but nancy was not. nancy and ryan are more equals about haunting bc they both start around the same time and conclude together as well [nancy and ryan bond over thinking their parents conspired to kill lucy- think sitting on the floor at velvet masque] nancy is appreciated by ryan for her ability to get answers- he has no qualms about going through her/outside of police bc he wants results/instant gratification and thinks nancy is more so the expert in her field/respects her even through her age- once again acknowledging she is braver than he is (think lucy + claw parking lot) and her portent in the car freaks him out bc shes usually always in control, esp with him
•bc nancy was told "you can't be afraid of the truth" until she was / ironic bc shes braver than him except when the truth is they are related then she's scared to tell him while he actually starts to take some initiative
•nancy picked "the wrong person" to help her through her grief in her dad's eyes like her mom's best friend was somehow a better choice? carson truly "parents" nancy even during grief and haunting (which she rejects) whereas nancy and ryan are really equals in all their situations which is actually better for her and easier for her to maintain- nancy's expectations are low so anything that ryan gives is a bonus. nancy's expectations of carson were shattered by his lies so now she has nothing to connect with him about- they could barely even connect when sharing the same grief- carson actually very hypocritical hence nancy's upset at karen revelation yet carson doesn't agree bc hes the "adult" and shes the "child" not realizing she hadnt been one for a long time (hidden staircase perhaps?) whereas ryan better treats her with lack of controlling parental nature bc he is impressed with her competence before he receives that knowledge; "lucy was smarter than me too" acknowledging her intellect negates his ability to "parent" ie control her to leave him solely with caring about her wellbeing in her situations + aftermath - i honestly dont think carson would ever admit that shes smarter than him* bc he thinks shes not "all grown up" yet ("youve kept me on the bench for years"); ryan is more willing to meet her where she's at which is so important for all her good relationships - ace, owen, etc
*carson asks for nancy to figure out "who to trust" in ep 12, finally admitting that she is useful/ie acknowledging that her skills/abilities do help, are necessary, and can in fact save lives --> this is then s2 follow up by working for him (but it takes him that long)
•ryan/nancy/carson venn diagram - using sex to escape trauma
•if not carson vs ryan then what about celia and everett vs patrice (and josh)? at this point in the narrative, do you think ryan's parents would take his side should the knowledge become public (without their involvement), or deny nancy?
•"we were a family" + the disruption of family dinner- kate was really the one holding that family together and her death makes it unsustainable
okay!! that's all folks! i have exhausted my plethora of nancy drew thoughts + knowledge. you will never have to hear from me again!! TYSSM 😘
