Chimera babby lore.
Chimera’s are hermaphrodites so their babies are always born in pairs. With each ones ‘mother’ being the others ‘father’. Though being an genderless society I’m still figuring out the terminology they’d use in their families.
Basically they grow up with their sibling being treated like twins. And they’ll stay with each other until the age of about 20 when they’ll start to become more independent and maybe have a different favorite chimera. They reach maturity at around 40 years of age, but wont be considered ‘fully adult’ until they’re about 50. Think the difference between 18 and 21 in human terms.
More on that later. BUT very important is that they are born with their head very wonky. Basically they start out looking more akin to their ancestral form, when they were hunted more often. So their eyes will be arranged to give them a pretty much 360 view around them. But as they get older, their face plate begins to widen out from the back and takes the eyes up along with it. As if bending a C into a ( to have all the eyes facing forward. Adolescence is at around 15 when the eyes are mostly moved and is when they can start learning to hunt/fish. But the eyes will not be fully set in place until around age 30.
ALSO when they are born their lil head crest above the main eye is teeny tiny, and I will have to get into it more later. But basically through that crest is how they talk to each other/use the magics. So it grows in pretty quick, usually mostly there at around 1 year old but it continues to grow through out their lives.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End
One of my BIGGEST pet peeves as a fan of DnD & fantasy based worlds is the fact that a lot of them brush over the passage of time.. So to see an anime/manga that acknowledges was so refreshing.. because while still being in the typical elves, humans, dwarves, high fantasy world it feels completely fresh and new!! Love this anime so far 🫶🫶

traditional centaurs are so like wild because theres like no way they would thrive. horses and human spines are both much too stiff to allow decent grooming with the shape they have and the way they would connect given the human torso is sitting straight up..
horses also notoriously are fragile. they walk on their single toe. they store oxygen in their bones because their lungs are not strong enough to fully supply their body, which is a large factor in why breaking any bones is so detrimental to a horse. also they break bones super easily because they have very small legs and, again, walk on a single toe. their hearts struggle to support their bodies and are a regular source of issues. horses pretty commonly may get too scared and die of a heart attack, as most prey animals are want to do.
granted, a centaur is probably not a prey animal anymore. but there would need to be so much rearranging of the internal organs to make it viable. personally i like to think of them having the majority of the human torso be lungs while a larger heart is in the horse chest. the digestive system snakes through them and the stomach and most other primary organs remain in the horse tummy. also, it would be prudent to strengthen the legs and have larger feet to accomate for the extra ~50-60lbs added from the human torso. anything that would help them thrive in various environments rather than disabling them in a way that does not allow them to safely travel most places lest it give them a life-ending injury. the world would already not be made for them due to their size, adding onto that seems unfair and not super frasible. Also, most importantly, their spine needs to be adjusted to be more flexible and curved to allow for better, more natural resting positions and ability to take care of themselves. the way the two segments would connect would ideally be more like the curvature of a praying mantis.
anyway all that to say i draw centaurs with bodies shaped a lot more like cats, due to the spine mostly

TWO NEW PEGASI WOOO!!
i. still dont have my brain wrapped around colors so especially the giant one looks a bit wonky but im working on figuring that out so !!
1) island giant pegasus:
at 7 1/2 feet (abt 2.2 meters i think?) at the withers they are the largest species of pegasus. they live on an (still unnamed) island and experience island gigantism due to the lack of other predators. they are nocturnal stalking hunters and most vocalizations fall below the human range of hearing. the only noise they make that is audible to humans is the low trumpeting sound they make to call to their young
2) pygmy pegasus
on the other side of the spectrum, the pygmy pegasus is the smallest species of pegasus, with the largest only being around 2 feet (.6 meters?) tall at the withers. they live in the forests of promethea and are omnivorous, eating berries, fruits, nuts, insects, and in some cases will attempt to steal from other animals or rummage through humans’ garbage. they have a wide range of vocalizations, with chirps, whistles, clicks, and more. they have become rare in recent years due to being out competed by the rise of birds like archaeopteryx.
theres my messy pegasi! beasts.

Based on the nature of Bond-Based (High Friendship/Happines) Evolution phenomena found to occur in Pokemon such as Sylveon, Pichu -> Pikachun, Snom -> Frosmoth, etc, Do you think this is as a result of the specific human - pokemon Bond or is this something that is reproducable in the wild as a Mated Pair form a bond or something similar? Any theories that you have to suggest a biological explanation? (OOC: i love your blog and it's whole idea, dunno if its been asked before but it was on my mind. Hope you're well!)
Yes! (Thank you very much!)
Those types of evolutions can be relatively diverse in biological function, but they tend to occur in species that live in either naturally high-stress or resource-poor environments that promote small body size. Formation of interpersonal (inter-Pokémon-al?) bonds establishes a few things: cooperation securing resources that may yield more than the sum of the individuals working alone; additional coverage when scouting for danger and the associated ability to range further afield; a heightened threat of competition over space/potential mates/newfound resources. All those things are easier to deal with if you have a larger and/or stronger body. Therefore, some of those species' evolutionary processes are only triggered by a hormone cascade associated with prolonged contact with other trusted individuals.
For example, Snom live in areas that are relatively extreme. Resources in arctic areas may be few and far between, and a large body with a high surface area to volume ratio (i.e. having appendages such as wings and antennae that are vulnerable to damage and energetically expensive to keep functional) can be dangerous. Groups of Snom tend to yield one or two dominant Frosmoth, that can defend territory and the group, and in turn receive food.
Meanwhile, many baby Pokémon such as Pichu and Togepi are not as precocial as other basic evolutionary forms, and require extra care and sometimes even education before they can safely set off on their own. A delayed evolution that relies on attention from family members is a good way to make sure that offspring don't leave the nest prematurely. That would essentially be a waste of parental investment, in cold-hearted biological terms.

Ok fantasy biology question. Why do Githyanki have nipples and breast tissue. Are they like fantasy humanoid monotremes? Technically mammals but they lay eggs instead of giving live birth? Do githyanki males have venomous spurs on their ankles? Do they fluoresce teal?
Anyways lizard/frog githyanki is out. Platypus/echidna githyanki is in

Sanemi & Giyuu were about 16-17 when they both individually went on an undercover mission in the Kaze no Kuni capital city, they henged/disguised as fake personas Kazura (vaguely derived from kaze, wind) and Nakuu ('to lose')
Kazura is supposed to be darker skinned + two-toned eyes like that of Kazan no Kuni descendants & is sensible and confident but lazy, Nakuu has a hairstyle + facial shape from Mizu no Kuni & an outgoing enthusiastic and pretty sly personality
Giyuu put some particular effort into his disguise and really got into the character he was playing up, he also had fun with it where he could- and thats how he met Kazura. i dont have or really want specifics of why where how or such bc it ruins the imaginative bit of it ig? but while they were on the mission they were meeting up, they both knew the other was disguised but neither pried about it. they fell in love a bit, however it means, but as Nakuu's namesake they were never going to last. it was a mission and when it was done they would leave for home and never meet again.
but then they did :)
at 19 sanemi and giyuu had a political marriage arranged(forced) by Kyogo being a greedy fuck and wanting more trade from the Tomioka, in both the Happy & Broken marriage paths giyuu's the one who notices sanemi acting the same way as kazura in some ways and realizes the two are one in the same. In the Happy marriage its a thought that brings a smile to his face and a jest about how they fell in love twice, in the Broken marriage its only twice the heartbreak after the apathy sanemi regards him with and the loneliness that consumes him
#kny clan au#kny clan au: arranged sanegiyu(Fluff)#kny clan au: arranged sanegiyuu(Angst)#Kazura & Nakuu#i like hurting giyuu<3 but i also want to be nice & im indecisive so Multiverse type shit like this happens#im trying to proper Write out the story i have but my skill isnt up to par with my vision. i'll post it anyway when im done tho bc i want t#Share the story and talk & think more about it bc its Fun#the idea for this actually came earlier before i thought of the arranged marriage bit- its the sngy mission meeting thing but changed#slightly with the timeline of the marriage(19) & sanemi murking kyogo(21)#in the orig they were older & i also didnt have the idea of major civilian cities/villages for the shinobi to do stuff in#also in the angst path sanemi isnt abusive like kyogo is hes just neglectful & since giyuu was essentially completely cut off from his#normal amount of casual affection and reassurances to Literally Nothing + the looming threat of kyogo's ire + different biology#he has no support aside from Nagisa(who is trying her damn best) and it wears on him mentally ykno?#then the one person he THOUGHT loved him turns out to actually not love *him* so it turns into a fantasy he desperately clings to.#just *someone* to love and support him for being *him* and not some character.#oh almost forgot to tag#sanegiyuu#also to be specific abt the arranged marriage part kyogo forced the tomioka's hand(marry or we decimate you & still get the trade routes<3)#but giyuu volunteered in place of tsutako. he wasnt against the idea of marrying but everyone was fearful of the shinazugawa's culture#and sent Nagisa with him as like. a helper. idk if it has a name. shes a beta well versed in medicine & secondary sex stuff so giyuu's not#COMPLETELY alone to deal with that surrounded by a bunch of people who know nothing about it. theyre formal with eachother as Tomiokas#but to the Shinazugawa they seem really close. mountain pass/southern culture is Very different. more communal and close-knit to#deal with the harsh environment of the mountains/cold

Updated species sheet for my beloved silly kangaroo people! These are Frenators, the most abundant sentient species in Khalodna, mostly in the south and south-east.
Biology infodump under the cut!
The frenator species (+ their relatives) are a part of it’s own taxonomic clade that does not exist on Earth; a group of mammals with highly abnormal traits. Examples include reptile-like reproductive organs (all their, uh, bits are inside their bodies unlike humans), and the fact that they lack breasts entirely. Yep, all Frenators are flat-chested! Or as flat as they can be really, they’re actually rather round.
Frenators are omnivores, but tend to prefer meat as it’s generally easier to find and cultivate year-round in the tundra than plants are. They do like tubers and other veggies, though. If they can find them.
They have bodies designed for both sustained bipedal and quadrupedal movement, making them very efficient and fast runners. Frenators also have rather long, thin bodies and a massive tail that is used for balance, and to help them navigate the tight cave systems that they sleep in at night when the weather is coldest (and the wildlife is deadliest!)
They lack fur everywhere on their bodies except for the mane (and whiskers? Is that fur?). The mane grows in a similar pattern to a horse (along the forehead and spine), it grows very long and is usually decorated and/or braided up. Most Frens wouldn’t dare cut their manes, they’re too precious!
I will delve further into Frenator culture in future posts, but a general summary is that they are very nomadic and travel almost all the time, only returning to their homes underground to escape the danger of the arctic Khalodnan nights.
Bonus fun fact: a baby Frenator is called a whelp. The more you know!

Why is one of the funniest passtimes trying to figure out the biology lore of the vampires that exist in your character universe
Like legit a couple of months ago I went on an unsurprisingly unhinged ramble in the gc I'm in w my friends about whether vampires can or cannot shit which ended in the few vampire ocs I have being grouped into shitters and nonshitters (all depending on whether they're from a pure bloodline or a hybrid) then just a few minutes ago I saw a screencap of a cute little vampire ship idea post has caused all the vampires, hybrid or otherwise, to be invisible in mirrors.
One of said vampires is a drag queen with incredible make-up skills.
This means the only explanation is that he had a particularly helpful little brother.
And by particularly helpful I mean:

you ever re-read a book and go WOW there are themes i did not see properly when i was a kid, now i have to go read the rest of the books to see if there's anything more i missed
and it's exciting but also worrying because you remembered it with kid-tinted lenses and recommended it to people with no real recollection of the themes and details present in it? well shit
