Paths of Light and Darkness Converge
by ataratah
E, 30k, wangxian
Summary: Everyone knows that Wei Wuxian died before the Sunshot Campaign even began.
Everyone knows that the Yiling Patriarch is a huli jing, a trickster fox spirit, that practices demonic cultivation for nefarious purposes.
Everyone knows that there’s no way a righteous sect, let alone the hidebound Lan sect, would accept the Yiling Patriarch into their clan.
...Everyone is wrong.
Or, when the notorious Yiling Patriarch marries Hanguang Jun to save the Wens, nothing in the cultivation world will ever be the same again.
My comments: This story starts out with an image I desperately want to see in full color: wen ning and fox-masked wei wuxian hurling radishes at their enemies (jins) in the burial mounds.
Things get better for him, though, and he winds up committing to a political marriage to lan wangji, who is supposed to quell his nefarious huli jin/demonic cultivator tendencies. Wwx is under the impression that no one knows who the yiling patriarch is under his mask. Wwx is not entirely correct.
The lans are dragon spirits and usually have their dragon horns out. Wwx is a prankster and a tease and often lwj's horns and tail pop out even when he's not trying. The double penis comes out on purpose, though. ;)
fox wei wuxian, dragon lan wangji, marriage of convenience, political marriage, marriage to save the Wen Remnants, secret identity, dragons have a double penis, huli jing wei wuxian, dual cultivation, self-worth issues, genderfluid wei wuxian, fox ears and tail, dragon horns and tail, smut, lan qiren is good, lan qiren sees who is at the burial mounds and realizes that the jins are lying, protective lan qiren, protective lan wangji, creature au, fluff, domestic, identity reveal, animal transformation, crack treated seriously, angst, everyone lives/nobody dies, foxxian, dragonji, supportive lan qiren, happy ending,  @ataratah
(Please REBLOG as a signal boost for this hard-working author if you like – or think others might like – this story.)

MDZS-On Wei Wuxian and huli jing
So. In fanarts and fanfiction, Wei Wuxian is often depicted as a huli-jing, or a jiuwei-hu (nine-tailed fox). This is why the jiuwei hu is such a good animal to represent Wei Wuxian in particular.
Huli-jing, from 狐狸(huli, fox), and 精 (jing, spirit) and jiuwei-hu, from 九尾(jiuwei, nine tails) and 狐(hu, fox)
The jiuwei-hu first appears in the Shan Hai Jing, described to be "similar in shape to a fox but with nine tails, its cry sounds like a infant's wail, eats people, if you eat it, you will be untouched by evil"
It is a auspicious creature, and symbolises that the ruler of the time is just. It can shapeshift, and cultivates its power and gains tails. If it lives a thousand years, it will become a fox-immortal.
From then on, there are several records of jiuwei-hu as a benevolent creature. In the Qinhan period, the 孝经 records: "the nine-tailed fox is the most virtuous of creatures". In East Han, 班固's 白虎通义 records: "the fox is a virtuous creature and an omen of many children and grandchildren"
However, in the Tangsong period rumours about the fox as a huyao(fox-monster) or huli-jing(fox-spirit->usually malevolent). As time went on, more and more stories of jiuwei-hu as monstrous spirits appeared. The characteristic of eating people was part of the twisting of the fox's nature, and imperial concubines were sometimes accused of being shapeshifting huli spirits intent on causing destruction by "seducing and distracting" the emperor. Often, when dynasties fell, it would be blamed on a woman, usually a concubine, for leading the emperor astray, and they would be accused of being huli-jing.
The huli-jing and jiuwei-hu are mainly known as malevolent spirits, who trick and confuse people, and huli-jing can be used an insult to women.
This ties in well with Wei Wuxian's story. For starters, the cry of the jiuwei-hu-其声如婴儿-is described with the same character as Wei Wuxian's name, 婴,meaning child or baby. The shift from the huli-jing's story from benevolent creature to malevolent creature echoes Wei Wuxian's story arc. He begins as a beloved young master, strong and clever and with a good reputation, before descending to a near-mythical figure feared and envied in equal measure, surrounded with rumours and accusations. It's only at the end of MDZS that his name is cleared, and like the huli-jing in present times, is beginning to regain its former glory. The huli-jing is now the subject of many novels and they are portrayed as benevolent almost as much as malevolent.
Thus, Wei Wuxian being a huli-jing is a damn good idea. Kudos to whoever came up with it.

To lurk, to lie in wait by trippednfell
This was amazing! What a beautifully told, unique and interesting story. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Featuring Dragon LZ and Fox WY.
Quotes:
“Dude I walk in and you were about to jump Hanguang-Jun. Lan Wangji. A Lan. Do you not realize what a colossal mistake that would have been? What he could have done to you? You’d have been fired at the very least.”
Jiang Cheng leaned back and covered his eyes with his hands. He slumped with weariness. It had been a long day for all of them.  “That’s assuming he didn’t kill you, none of us even know what he is.”
The Lans were members of the Consortium, as were the Jiangs, Jins, and Nies. Families and clans with extra-normal abilities.
The Lans were an enigma. No one knew what they were and they weren’t telling. It wasn’t exactly unheard of to guard one’s privacy in that manner, most extra-normals had been persecuted by the general populace at times. Some more than others. Like Huli Jings, hunted so thoroughly Wei Wuxian had gone 32 years of his life before meeting another. Or like the dragons, who were extinct now.
But the Lans took it to an extreme. They were an old family, and very powerful politically. The patriarch, Lan Qiren, currently headed up the Consortium Council.
Jiang Cheng was right. Fighting a Lan would have been career and possibly even personal suicide for him.
Wei Wuxian started to speak, to tell his brother, but the words didn’t want to come out. He took a deep breath, leaned his head back against the couch cushions, closed his eyes, and tried again.
“He’s a huli jing,” he said.
“Lan Wangji?”.
“No, the kid.”
“Are you sure?”
Wei Wuxian opened his eyes and turned to look at his brother. He let his facial expression speak for him.
Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes. “Fine. Stupid question, sorry.”
The water had stopped running in the bathroom. Wei Wuxian listened to Jin Ling’s movements as he closed the door and headed into his bedroom, probably to change into sleeping clothes. There would not be any more time to talk about this tonight.
“Well, fuck, that complicates things,” Jiang Cheng said.
Wei Wuxian nodded. It did indeed.
————
“Why didn’t you bring him to me?”
Lan Wangji stiffened up. He paused, as if considering his words. Then he spoke, his voice level and even. “One of our clan physicians visited him last night. He acknowledged that he wasn’t healing well but did not think he needed emergency care.”
“I’m not talking about bringing him back to the hospital. I’m talking about bringing him to me because your son is a huli jing and I’m the only other known huli jing around.”
Lan Wangji blinked at him. His expression did not shift but his eyes widened slightly.
“Sizhui is a huli jing?”
Wei Wuxian closed his eyes. May whatever fox spirit deity created his species grant him patience.
“I wouldn’t have thought it a difficult differential diagnosis to make. Usually the fact that he turns into a fox would be enough to convince most people.”
The snark was probably over the top. But Wei Wuxian was tired. That child in there represented a link to his own past and heritage. And he had been denied the ability to know him and spend time with him because this stubborn fool didn’t recognize a huli jing when he saw one.
The stubborn fool just looked at him  Blinked again.
“Sizhui has never transformed into a fox. Or into anything else.”
Wei Wuxian felt his mouth drop open. That wasn’t possible. From his own experience and what research existed on huli jings it was very clear. Transformation was not optional. If you put it off long enough you’d spontaneously transform in your sleep.
Could he be mistaken? It’s not like he had a lot of experience here.
But no. He knew it. Knew it in his bones. That boy was a huli jing. He smelled like one. He reacted to Wei Wuxian, recognized him. Responded to him in a way that only another huli jing would.
It just wasn’t possible that Sizhui was human. He was a huli jing. Wei Wuxian was absolutely certain about that fact.
He was a huli jing that had never transformed before.
An impossible contradiction.
Lan Wangji continued to look at him. That ridiculous posture, ramrod straight and so very, very still.
There was only one possibility.
“How long has he been cursed?”
M, 125k
Summary:
Wei Wuxian thought he had his life figured out. Work as an emergency room doctor on shift 2-3 times per week. Help Jiang Cheng take care of Jin Ling. Swallow down any other ambition or desire because it just didn't matter.
But then, Lan Sizhui entered his life, along with his infuriating, enigmatic father.
And everything Wei Wuxian had planned out for his life had to change.

More foxxian - he is all I've been drawing in my sketchbook lately ♡♡
In @rmoonberry 's fic , wwx wears a fox mask and it seemed like such a pretty concept, so I sketched a mask design - tried to incorporate some cql mask elements and of course tassels

I didn’t summon you! Wangji’s elegant, long fingers struck along the guqin’s strings, sending forth the first compelling notes of Exorcism against the Huli Jing. The sheer force of the magical melody sent Wuxian’s robes and hair flowing, but as the vibrations faded from the air the spirit had gone nowhere. He hadn’t even weakened!
“Scary, young master!” Wuxian mocked and dusted off his robes. “But I told you it wouldn’t help.”
It didn’t work? That means… I truly summoned him by accident? Now Wangji knew for certain he was in trouble. If only he hadn't masturbated. No, if only he hadn't looked at that scroll…
“I’m sorry, but I don’t make the rules.” Wuxian stepped closer again. Wangji kept backing away until he met with the wall, and he could only hold the guqin as if it might shield him from the spirit, which it would not.
“What do you want from me?” Wangji asked.
Wuxian stepped as close as he could, leaning slightly over the guqin and smirked up at Wangji’s face –they were about the same height. “It’s not about what I want. You have three days to live, Lan Wangji, once I’ve taken taken my pay, but in return you may ask of me one wish, anything you want. That’s the deal.”
