IT'S SORT OF... COMPLICATED. ALL she knows, is that she feels something — something she can't quite explain — for the little girl that has suffered through so much pain and loss.
how could someone who suffered through so much pain at the hands of her own parents could become a motherly figure to a misunderstood little girl? well, maybe it's just because she couldn't help it.
she may have had a rough childhood, but [y/n] could just feel it in her heart that laura needed someone to show her that she mattered — that she was worth the hard journey of making it out of everything alive.
so, is it really that hard to see why she would do anything to get her safe? even go to the older, grumpy — clearly retired — wolverine for help?
"look, kid. you seem like you've got good intentions. but, i can't afford to have anymore trouble by helping you and the girl out." logan grumbles, after laura had arrived to knock out the asshole that dared try to mess shit up for him, charles, and caliban.
[y/n] sighs, trying to keep an eye on laura, who has just now begun to walk over to charles. "i can't say i don't get it. because... i do," she sympathetically states, understanding that he just wants to be left alone from all the danger that being a mutant brings.
with another sigh, she watches the young girl interact with charles with a sense of comfort, before turning back to face the older man, who's been watching her warily. "look, i know she's not my daughter — not by blood. but, i love her like she's my own. and she doesn't deserve to be hunted down and killed like a monster. she's done nothing wrong."
"so, i'm only asking you to get us somewhere safe, where we can travel away from on our own. i'll pay you whatever and however much you want. but, i'm not abandoning her — i'm going to protect her with everything i have, for as long as possible."
there's a moment of silence as he doesn't say anything. but, after realizing that his silence is his answer, [y/n] nods wordlessly, trying not to get emotional over the fact that she and laura are on their own to find somewhere safe for them to go.
"right. like i said, i get it." she mumbles, sighing.
an unexpected look of regret flashes in logan's eyes, but [y/n] doesn't see it, due to motioning for laura to come over to her.
a look of disappointment takes over the little girl's expression as [y/n] turns back to face the wolverine. "look, i'm sorry for bothering you about this. clearly... this was both a mistake and a waste of time." she murmurs as laura comes up from behind her and grabs her hand.
"and i hope these guys," she stops to point to the unconscious man still lying on the ground. "don't give you any more trouble."
he sighs and nods, still watching her warily as he begins to wonder why a human would risk so much — and her life — just to protect this little girl that he's been growing more curious about by every passing second.
he also finds her a little bit annoying, but nevertheless, it's all the same amount.
with no other words being said between them, [y/n] gives him a forced and fake smile, hoping that she doesn't make him feel guilty for not being able to help them, as she gently tugs on laura's hand to tell her that it's time for them to go.
as they walk further away, logan begins to wonder if he made a mistake — for not agreeing to help them.
after all, it's always been a first instinct and part of his nature to help and protect people. or at least, when he had been part of the x-men team.
—————
THE NEXT TIME THEY MEET, it's a few days later — after logan, charles, and caliban had been attacked by the group called alkali-transigen for the second time.
caliban had been captured by this group, while logan and charles were able to escape in logan's crappy limo-like car.
the two men had found laura and [y/n] sitting in an alley. laura was fast asleep, lying her head on the older woman's shoulder.
[y/n] shivers, tugging the tiny blanket further over laura's sleeping form as the sound of the limo pulls up near the entrance.
worried that they're found again by the cruel men that just wouldn't leave them alone, [y/n] cautiously pops open an eye, brows furrowing. she leans forward, trying to get a better look.
but, she stops suddenly as she notices logan stepping out of his car, confusion filled on his face. "logan? w—what are you doing here?"
"kid, why didn't you tell me that you guys didn't have anywhere else to go?" he asks her once he gets to the actual entrance of the alley.
she shrugs, sitting up now as she tries to ignore the cold weather. "i could tell you didn't want to be bothered. i thought it would've just been easier if i lied." she murmurs, stopping completely as laura begins to stir a bit in her sleep.
once the young girl has stopped moving in her sleep completely, [y/n] impulsively decides to move to stand up, in order to give the young girl all the room she needs.
so, within a few cautious and quiet seconds, she slowly moves herself away and moves laura to the side, before placing her jacket under her head to use as a pillow.
with a prolonged, nervous sigh, [y/n] then takes in a relieved inhale as the little girl falls right back to sleep without any further disturbance.
"you know, if i knew you guys had nowhere else to go... " logan trails off when she turns to finally face him.
with another sigh leaving her, [y/n] lightly grabs onto his arm — in which, who flinches for more than a second — before leading him over to the front of his parked car.
"look, logan. we both know that you probably would have still said no." she murmurs, making sure to keep an eye on laura every few seconds while speaking with him.
logan sighs, knowing that she is right — no matter how many times he wishes to believe otherwise.
but, there's also another part of him that knows that he would probably help her and laura in a heartbeat, if he weren't growing slowly weak every day. but, he is — it both slows him down and makes it hard for him to help them to his full potential.
he opens his mouth to say something, but charles, who'd rolled down his window from inside the car before and heard the twos' conversation, interrupts him, "logan, they need our help — we should help them."
with a small smile almost curving onto her lips, [y/n] sighs. she knows that she can't just drag him and logan into this. it just wouldn't be fair.
"no, please. it's really alright. i don't want to put you guys in this complicated situation." she murmurs, just as laura stirs again in her sleep.
charles shrugs his shoulder, as if he wouldn't mind if they got dragged into it. but, then again, he's never been one to turn down the chance to help others when they need it.
"really, guys... it's okay. laura and i will manage on our own." she murmurs as she turns to walk back over to the little girl and gently and carefully pick her up.
as she faces them and walks back over to logan with laura still in her arms, covered up in both [y/n]'s jacket and blanket, logan furrows his brows. "are you sure?"
the concern in his voice shocks her, but she waves it off as him just trying to be polite. "y—yeah. we'll be fine." she nods, gulping down her pride as she lies through her teeth, once again.
in a way, she's grateful that he'd said earlier that he couldn't help her and the girl. i mean, [y/n] is the type of person to deal with her own issues and problems by herself, instead of choosing to burden people with them — her words, not mine.
her going to logan for help was really just a moment of weakness. she was desperate — only wanting to do whatever she could to try every possibility that would protect laura and get them anywhere safe.
truthfully, the main reason why she's lying to them about really needing their help, is the fact that she feels guilty — it's already obvious that logan feels regretful that he didn't agree to help them.
and guilt-tripping them — mostly logan — that was never her intention. so, if she has to lie to make him feel better about the situation, then that's what she's going to do.
"you don't have to lie, [y/n]. there's nothing wrong with admitting when you need help." charles tells her from his side of the open window.
the young woman mentally slaps her hand to her forehead in irritation over forgetting that the extremely older man is psychic.
she stutters, hating that she can't hide the truth from them. "i... i just don't want to be a burden. and... i don't know what i'd do if either of you got seriously hurt because you guys decided to help us — everyone gets hurt when they get involved with me."
with a relentless sigh, logan simply nods to the car. "we'll figure it out, okay? just get in."
she hesitates for a moment, wondering if dragging them into this mess is really the right answer.
after all, she knows that if either of them gets hurt — in any way — because of her, she'll never forgive herself.
but, as laura recklessly jumps down from [y/n]'s arms, causing a shocked gasp to leave her, and runs over to the other door opposite of the one charles is sitting behind, she sighs.
both [y/n] and logan share a look of a tiny bit of amusement.
with a tired yawn, she shrugs her shoulder, knowing that she won't be able to change the little girl's mind now as she opens the door and slides in.
"i... guess laura would like to take you guys up on that offer. so, i'm not really in a place to say no now." she mutters as logan leads her to the front of the car.
if only they had known all the bigger trouble they'd all have to endure in the future, all because they allowed the possibility of helping them become a reality.
—————
AFTER MANY DIFFERENT NIGHTS OF passing through different towns, logan finally stops at a gas station that's in the middle of nowhere.
[y/n] follows laura over to one of the electric horses, while logan and charles stay back in the car. as she leads laura up and over the horse to sit down, [y/n] places some quarters into the machine.
"there you go," she murmurs, giving the younger girl a warm smile. "now, i'm going inside to use the bathroom. i'll be back in a few minutes, okay?"
the girl silently nods as [y/n] hesitates to leave her alone.
but, nevertheless, after realizing that, not only are they all in the clear — for now — but logan and charles will surely watch her for a few minutes, while she's in the bathroom.
with the positive thoughts swirling around in her head, [y/n] finally walks over to the door, before walking inside.
after asking the person at the front of the store where the bathroom is, he points in the direction of where it is, and [y/n] races off in that direction in a hurry as she really needs to use the bathroom.
the young woman tries to pee as fast as she can, considering that they're all still on the run and practically fugitives at this point.
then, as she walks over to the sink, she rinses off and washes her hands. but, as she sees all the blood — from the previous days of running into trouble with the group that had started all of this — dried up on both her hands, arms, and face, panic begins to quickly sink in.
to protect laura, [y/n] had to take extra precautions and do whatever she could, to do just that.
not only had she been injured, but she had also had to do two things she'd always said she'd never do — learn how to shoot guns and really any other weapons, all the while also having to take some lives.
it was self-defense, of course. but, still.
the guilt and trauma she's endured because of the fact that she's killed some people... well, it's taken too much of a toll on her.
all she kept thinking was, how can i live with myself, after all the things i've done?
she still thinks this as she tensely and harshly tries to scrub all the blood away.
[y/n] has always dealt with self-image issues and her internal hatred for herself — especially, with growing up in the toxic household that she had as a kid. but, this? it's extra new and multiplied now.
shaky breaths and unshed tears escape her as she looks up at herself in the mirror this time.
but, just before the negative thoughts can become any worse, there's a knock on the bathroom door.
[y/n]'s head snaps up in the direction of the door, more panic filling her. "just a minute!" she yells to the person on the other side of the door as she tries to scrub harder to get the blood off.
her breaths become more panicked as logan's voice speaks up from outside. "[y/n], i'm coming in."
her eyes widen in both surprise and shock. as the door slowly opens, she panics and turns around, so that she's leaning against the sink and is hiding her hands behind her back.
just as he walks inside, [y/n] lets out a shaky, "h—hey. is everyone... ready to go?"
however, logan doesn't reply to her. he only steps closer to her as he crosses his arms over his chest with confusion swirling around in his eyes. "what's going on? did something happen?"
she abruptly shakes her head, dipping her head down to avoid showing any weakness. "everything's f—fine."
"don't lie to me. what's going on?" he asks her once more, stepping even closer to her, to the point of them only being a few inches away from each other.
with a sigh of defeat, [y/n] shakily pulls her hands out from behind her back. "i... i can't get the blood off — their blood. it won't come off." she whispers shakily.
he frowns, stepping even closer to her.
the young woman's breath catches in her throat as the space between them decreases by every passing second.
though, the concerned look in his eyes scares [y/n].
as someone who's never experienced someone worrying about her and her well-being in her entire life, just the thought of someone actually taking care of her, terrifies her, to be completely honest.
they stare at each other for a long moment, before logan slowly reaches for a paper towel and moves over closer to one of the sinks and turns it on to run the paper towel through some water. then, he brings the towel back to her and starts to gently scrub her hands and arms.
within a few minutes, he has successfully gotten the blood off of her hands, arms, and face. as he throws the paper towel away, her gaze softens as he steps away from her to give her her space.
"t—thank you." she murmurs raspily, trying to act as if she hadn't let him see her in such a vulnerable state.
he simply nods hesitantly, now stuck in his thoughts.
when they had first met, he — no matter how many times he's tried to ignore it — had become just slightly curious about her.
but, now? he can't help but find himself completely consumed with the feeling of concern and curiosity over her.
after another long moment of them just looking at one another, [y/n] finally snaps herself out of her daze, shaking her head in silent embarrassment. "i... i think i'm going to find laura and get back to the car. i think i've been in here long enough, right?" she tries to crack a joke, desperately needing to change the subject.
logan nods once more, before motioning to the door as he waits for her to leave first.
once she's officially out of the bathroom and through the hall, he follows after her.
though, before either of them can actually leave the building, both adults find them watching a very shocking scene playing before them.
laura has her claws grown out of her skin, and she holds down the current worker of the small gas station, an angry look placed on her face.
"oh, god..." [y/n] trails off, sharing a similar expression with logan.
as the young girl yells out, [y/n] snaps her head towards that direction and her eyes widen in shock and surprise.
then, she races over to the two of them, and gently pulls laura away from the man. her grasp immediately falls away from the man's when [y/n]'s gentle touch connects with her body.
"laura!" she murmurs in a slight lecturing tone, though it's still gentle. "you can't do stuff like that. you can't hurt innocent people, okay? you understand me?"
after a moment, the little girl finally nods and in a matter of seconds, her claws retract back into the skin of her knuckles.
[y/n] sighs in relief, before leading her back to the car, while logan stays inside for a few more minutes.
later that night, they arrive at a hotel. both [y/n] and laura fall fast asleep the second they reach their bed.
logan, however, struggles to stay asleep.
—————
SHE WAKES UP IN THE middle of the night, breathless gasps and hyperventilating breaths leaving her.
as she continues to struggle to breathe, she notices the little girl, who’s lying beside her, is still fast asleep.
she runs a shaky hand through her slightly knotted up and greasy hair as her heart begins to beat faster than ever and her breaths become much more panicked.
if only she didn’t have that nightmare — of all the lives she’s taken to protect laura. it’s a relentless, repetitive terrifying dream that she has been having almost every night, ever since it happened.
with another moment of her panicking state becoming much more worse, she shakily and quietly — as much as she can — takes off her blanket and rushes off in the direction of the bathroom.
too buried deep in her panicked thoughts and the flashbacks that the nightmare has provided for her, she doesn’t even notice the wolverine sitting in the other room that leads to the bathroom.
she only stumbles into the bathroom and quietly shuts the door.
as she slides down the door, she doesn’t even realize that the light is still off. she’s only focused on trying to not go into full panic mode, or worse, slip off of the edge and begin to have a panic attack.
but, it’s quite too late for that.
she’s already slipping and losing all of her control over her breathing. another painful and breathless sob leaves her lips and her head falls to lean against the door as she clenches her eyes shut.
the tears fall carelessly down her cheeks and she cries out in frustration. god, she hates crying. it has always made her feel weak.
she shakily stands up as she quickly flicks the light switch on. but, as she looks into the mirror and sees her wrecked appearance, another shaky breath escapes her lips.
[y/n]’s brows furrow and more tears cloud her eyes.
then, out of nowhere, she slams her hands down onto the counter repeatedly. the loathing hatred she feels for herself grows and grows by every passing second.
more tears blur her vision, the shaky breaths still leaving her lips.
though, before she can panic even more, there’s a light knock on the other side of the door.
“kid? everything okay in there?” logan’s voice calls out through the door and it — fortunately — snaps [y/n] out of her panicked daze. at least, for the moment.
“w—what?” she stutters out in an answer to his question. she holds her breath as she waits for him to say what he wants to.
“are you okay?”
the tone of concern shocks [y/n] as she chokes on her answer, “y—yeah, i’m… uh, i’m fine.”
there’s only silence for the first few minutes. but then, suddenly, the door knob is being turned and logan is slowly entering.
he shuts the door behind him as he turns to face her with crossed arms and a look as if to say, 'i know you’re not fine'.
“i know you’re lying. why can’t you sleep?”
she stays silent, eyes falling to the floor as she leans against the counter.
“well?” he asks, causing her to snap her head back up at him.
“it’s nothing… i—” she abruptly cuts herself off, inhaling deeply. she dips her head down in shame as she tries to calm herself down.
"i just... had another nightmare. that's all." she mumbles as she lifts her head back up to look at him.
he sighs with a nod. "do you wanna talk about it?" he asks, not being able to help but feel a little worried about her.
as she notices this look on his face, something in her brings her butterflies. [y/n] gulps nervously, before shaking her head.
despite, trusting him now — a bit more than she had before — she just can't let him in, yet. and she knows that he can understand that more than anyone else.
he nods.
silence fills the room as they stare at each other with different emotions consuming them.
while logan still feels a bit worried about her well-being, [y/n] watches him with a wary expression, trying to figure him out.
"well, um... thank you — for checking in on me. but, i promise, i'm okay," she murmurs, anxiously running a hand through her tangled-up hair. "i'm always okay."
despite, [y/n] sounding really genuine, logan doesn't believe her for a second. but, he doesn't say anything about it.
after another moment of complete silence, [y/n] clears her throat. "well... i should go back to bed." she says, nodding to the door, causing logan to snap out of his own concerned thoughts.
he nods and drops his arms from his chest, before moving to twist the doorknob and pulls the door open.
he lets her pass him as she hurries back to her and laura's bed.
though, as she lies back down and stares at the hotel room’s ceiling, a soft smile finds it's way to her lips as she remembers how concerned about her he's been acting lately.
she may not still completely trust him.
but, for him to grow concerned for her? that's quite a big development on his part.
[y/n] falls asleep with that same smile on her lips.
—————
SHE SLEEPS A LOT BETTER. so much so that she sleeps through the entirety of the next day.
the only time where she actually wakes up, is when — while logan went off to find a better car for them, since the limo's already been seriously damaged — a few men, who were sent from the psychopath that's been hunting both [y/n] and laura in the first place, showed up at the hotel room.
unfortunately, right when she does wake up, charles begins to have a seizure. it not only stops the bad men from harming laura, but it also does the same for everyone else.
the entire process is especially more harmful to [y/n], considering that she's only human, after all.
lucky for her, logan arrives soon after, taking care of some of the men, before laura assists with giving him charles' shot that's supposed to help with the seizures.
once charles has officially calmed down, [y/n] takes in a deep breath.
but, as she stands up, she loses her balance, when her legs give out, taking much more of a hit than anyone could've anticipated.
she lets out a groan as she clutches her head in pain, suddenly being hit with a wave of throbbing pain.
as she continues to struggle to deal with the pain, both laura and logan watch her in worry.
while logan turns to face charles, who wears a very regretful expression, and gives him a pointed glance, laura races over to [y/n] and silently worries about her.
as she tries to breathe through the pain, she notices the little girl's presence near her and decides to place her now sweaty hands over hers, in order to calm her down.
"it's... okay — i'm okay. i promise." her voice comes out in a croaky whisper as she begins to slowly stand up.
surprise flashes in her eyes as she notices the crazy amount of concern and worry in logan's eyes.
he steps forward to help her, but she holds up a hand, before he can get any closer.
"don't worry about me. i'm fine." she murmurs, trying to ignore the pain that is still consuming her body.
logan raises a single brow at her, challenging her to tell the truth as he notices her wince in further-more pain. "you sure about that? because you don't look like you're okay." he steps forward once more.
before she can answer him, her head throbs, once more.
it causes her to stop completely and dip her head down in pain as she presses her hand to her forehead.
"[y/n]?" he calls out as he steps closer her, the rest of the people in the room becoming much more concerned for her as she sighs shakily.
"i..." she trails off breathlessly as she begins to feel so much more light-headed and becomes a bit nauseous. "i don't understand why it's like this... "
"like what?"
"why it hurts so much..." she whispers as her legs finally give out and everything goes dark.
—————
THE MOMENT SHE WAKES, SHE notices that she's no longer inside the hotel room they were in before she'd passed out.
she begins to panic after realizing that she doesn't recognize the room she's been currently sleeping in for god knows how long.
her heart beat picks up in a fast pace as she looks around in confusion and stress.
though, before she can actually find herself in a worse panicking state, the door of the room slowly opens.
as soon as she realizes that it's logan, [y/n] sighs in relief. "thank god." she whispers to herself as he slowly shuts the door behind him, before walking over to the bed she's currently lying on.
"you alright? you know, you look really stressed right now." he asks as he sits down on the edge of the bed, eyebrows already furrowing together in concern.
she sputters once more, glancing around the room again, before turning back to face him.
"w—where are we? i don't recognize this room... and it's honestly stressing me out. especially, since the last time i was awake, it was inside the hotel room and now i'm here — where i don't recognize anything." she rambles, furrowing her brows as she tries to catch her breath from talking so much.
he chuckles in amusement, before shaking his head at her in response.
"doll, you don't need to worry or stress about that. the explanation is pretty simple," he states as she waits for him to go on.
"after you passed out from what happened in the hotel room with charles and all those men, we had to leave to ensure that that group didn't get to you and laura. so, we left and ended up helping this family and they've offered to let us stay here for the night. we'll be leaving early in the morning, alright?"
after hearing his explanation, she sighs in relief. “oh… okay. that makes sense.”
he nods, staying silent as he stares at her with an expression filled with worry and concern — something that’s become a very familiar look lately. especially, when it comes to her.
in the past — maybe today, even — he would've told anyone that he would never fall in love again, or even, in this situation, at least, grow genuine, protective instincts and to care for another person.
and when you have the type of haunting past — like he does — it's understandable.
[y/n], sensing his eyes on her, looks up, brows furrowing.
she tilts her head to the side in confusion, suddenly feeling self-conscious.
"w—what?" she stutters out nervously, quickly beginning to wonder what's going on inside of his troubled head.
logan tries his best to shake the feelings and new — for him, anyways — thoughts away. "nothing." he mumbles, clearing his throat and cutting off the new moment between them.
it's quiet for a moment, before the door opens, only to reveal both laura and charles.
once laura realizes that the older woman is now awake, relief floods to her face, before she's racing over to the bed and crushing [y/n] into a bone-tight hug.
"oof!" she lets out, trying to ignore just how tight the little girl is hugging her as she hugs her back.
after a second, she laughs in a form of appreciation — she's never felt so loved before, considering how she was treated as a growing child.
"i promise i'm okay. and i will be for a very long time — you never have to worry about losing me. okay?" she murmurs quietly, before the younger girl finally pulls away from her with a protective look shining in her eyes.
"she was quite worried for you." charles says from his place, sat in his wheelchair.
[y/n] nods, feeling guilty for making her worry as a frown takes over the place on her lips.
"and... i'm terribly sorry for putting you in that situation and putting your life in danger." he continues, his facial expression obviously filled with only regret and guilt.
the young woman's face quickly becomes confused.
"oh, charles... that wasn't your fault. and i don't blame you for it." she states in a soft voice, sending him an appreciative smile.
the wolverine scoffs, as if he doesn't quite share the same opinion as her.
his tone of voice is bitter as he speaks again, making how he feels known, "maybe you should."
[y/n] tilts her head to the side in further confusion. "what? how could this be his fault? it can't be his fault, if he can't control when it happens." she says, quickly coming to the eldest man's defense.
"i mean... you can't possibly believe that he wants to hurt anyone. and having these moments of out-of-control seizures can hurt them."
logan only rolls his eyes. "whatever." he mutters, not wanting to argue with her, before he glances towards the door.
"we should go check and see if they've finished making dinner yet." he mumbles as laura hurries to help [y/n] out of the bed.
she chuckles, before shaking her head.
"it's okay, sweetheart. i'm okay to walk." she murmurs softly as the little girl simply nods silently in understanding.
as [y/n] makes her way over to the door, limping and wincing every few seconds, logan, charles, and laura watch in clear concern, but she only ignores it.
she doesn't want to be any more of a victim — not anymore.
her only fate is to be able to protect laura and get her across the border — that's all she's going to be.
logan backs up, pulling charles with him as he keeps a good grip on the handles of the chair, while [y/n] slowly and eventually pulls the door open.
with an excited smile, she turns to them with a hand motioning towards the open doorway and backs away, in order for them to get through. "here we go!"
laura claps excitedly as logan pushes the old telepath through.
as soon as they're out and making their way into the kitchen, [y/n] and laura walk through the doorway and follow after them.
laura lets go of [y/n]'s hand as soon as she gets to her chair, practically throwing herself into it in pure excitement.
the older woman inhales nervously, becoming a little anxious about meeting these seemingly nice folks for the first time.
she lifts her hand up and into the air, giving them a small wave.
"hi. um, i'm [y/n]," she nervously says, nodding towards laura.
"i'm laura's mother." she explains further as the brunette woman laughs and waves her shyness off.
"it's so nice to officially meet you — laura's spoken so highly of you. i'm glad you're doing a lot better than before." she kindly says, nodding to an empty seat, the one next to where logan is now sitting.
[y/n] takes in a deep breath as logan still continues to watch her every move in clear worry, before she takes the seat and sends the much older woman a warm smile.
"thank you. yes, i'm doing and feeling a lot better now."
after the family says their grace, logan and [y/n] glance at one another, not even realizing how much they seem to be looking at each other.
as laura begins to eat — quite messily, too, might i add — logan steps in with a frown and a glare.
he reaches over with his hand and taps her shoulder to get her attention.
then, he gives her her fork, quickly motioning for her to use it properly.
seeing this herself, [y/n] giggles, only finding amusement in watching her.
"i'm... so sorry about laura. as you can clearly see, we're still trying to teach her how to have proper manners."
hearing the 'we' part of her statement, logan gives a gruff agreement, quickly realizing that the woman is going for the wife-and-husband-with-their-daughter cover.
though, it's quite obvious that both adults are their own versions of flushed over the idea of them actually being together — or being a couple.
the older couple simply waves it off, not being ones to judge.
after all, all families are different, right?
though, as laura starts pouring big, big loads of food onto her plate, logan has to interfere, obviously. again.
"there's plenty more, if she'd like some more." katherine offers, nodding over to the younger girl, who's now glaring and pouting at logan.
he shakes his head, mumbling that she's had more than enough.
[y/n] can't help but let a small laugh escape her.
but, after realizing how childish she must seem in the moment, her eyes widen in shock over her own impulsive action, and then clasps her hands over her mouth to keep anything else from escaping.
the famous wolverine stops frowning at laura, only to turn to look over at [y/n] with a raised brow as a response to her childishness.
she laughs again, at the look placed on his face.
after all the time they've spent together — and obviously, the feelings that have shifted between them — she can't take him seriously. not anymore, at least.
although he looks like he's just about ready to lecture her, she knows deep down that he couldn't get mad at her over something so minor.
and another part of her just hopes that maybe he feels the same about her that she feels for him and that he couldn't bear to be angry at her for that long.
logan glares at her once more, though it's more playful than anything else.
as she notices everyone watching their seemingly normal exchange, [y/n] clears her throat as her face instantly turns beat-red at the attention they're receiving.
"uh, sorry." she genuinely apologizes to katherine and her husband.
katherine laughs herself as laura and charles join in. "there's no need to apologize. i think you and james make quite the couple."
[y/n]'s face heats up, once more, at the compliment. "o—oh, thank you." she stutters nervously, tucking a stray strand of her hair behind her ear as logan's gaze catches hers.
this time, though, their eye contact is very much different than any of the others they've shared — this one gives off both admiration and genuine care over the other.
charles, however, decides to cut the moment short, after noticing the pair of adults' undeniable connection, when he accidentally hears both of their own thoughts.
[y/n] is not only flushed on the outside, but also on the inside — she wonders anxiously if anything could ever happen between them, or if it's just her that feels this way.
and logan? well, he's trying to act like she doesn't have a single effect on him at all — he's trying to stay professional about this all and fight against how he truly feels.
a small smirk tugs at the psychic's lips, before he breaks the silence, "yes, my son and [y/n] truly do make quite a great couple — they're actually quite perfect for each other."
[y/n]'s face turns even redder — if that's even possible — while logan glares at the side of charles' face.
but, after a moment, both logan and [y/n] realize that the rest of the family — and charles and laura — are watching them carefully and closely.
"yeah, we are perfect for each other. i'm just happy to be with him and to have laura and charles — this family means everything to me." the young woman states, no lies evident in her tone of voice — she speaks the truth in her words, even if it's all just for a cover that won't be permament.
something in logan changes when he hears her truthful words, a small smile — a grateful one — appearing on his lips as he stares at only her with a gentle look in his eyes.
without another thought, he nods and says his own version of the truth, despite the fact that he hasn't wanted to get attached to either her or laura, in the first place, "you know i feel the same, sweetheart."
his tone of voice comes out gruff, but [y/n] senses the truth in it and smile at him as she places one of her hands over his.
they both fall into the moment, completely forgetting about everyone else, almost as if the entire world falls away, when it's just them.
katherine smiles at them with admiration.
"you know how i know you two are truly perfect for each other?" she asks, breaking the moment between them as they glance over at her in confusion.
"you look at each other like you're the other's world — and that's true love." she continues as [y/n] laughs nervously, before murmuring a 'thanks'.
logan watches her once more, before katherine's husband asks where they're heading after this.
he snaps himself out of his daze as both he and charles reply with completely different locations.
"uh," logan starts, but [y/n] laughs and cuts the two men off, "sorry. apparently, there's been some miscommunication!" she laughs once more, trying to make a joke out of it.
katherine laughs with her.
"are you guys going on some kind of extended-vacation?"
after a moment, [y/n] nods, choosing to just go with it. "we're going to be going to both oregon and south dakota."
charles nods along with her.
"yes, it's a very long overdue vacation," he pauses as both logan and [y/n] nod in agreement. "we're city folk — always wanted to see the country. and meet the people in it."
logan watches the exchange, noticing how comfortable both charles and [y/n] are about speaking about a vacation.
needless to say, they all deserve a vacation — away from all the complicated situations they've been in lately.
"that's lovely." katherine nods in agreement as everyone continues to eat.
"i've been trying to get will here to take a vacation for years—"
will interrupts, quickly bringing up that they'd not be able to take care of their property, if they went on vacation.
katherine replies to this by telling him they need to sell the property.
[y/n] laughs at their interaction, never before seeing an actual healthy couple before — her parents, after all, didn't have a healthy relationship at all.
they continue to argue, before their son interrupts them, "i could drop out of school!"
"let's not go that far." katherine says to him seriously as he just laughs it off.
"i mean, i'll do it."
"no."
"why not?"
something in logan's face changes as he watches the normal family exchange between them all.
his gaze goes over to laura, something changing immediately.
[y/n] notices this and smiles, hoping that he truly does care about her and laura, like she hopes he does.
"now, why would you want to do that, nate?" charles asks genuinely and [y/n] can't help it as she lets out a giggle.
"you might want to be careful with answering that question, nate. charles here, was a professor that ran a very important school." she announces in an amused tone of voice.
"a lot of years, right, charles?" logan asks, finding some entertainment in this topic of conversation, as well.
charles waves him off, trying not to make a big deal out of it.
though, just as he begins to agree politely, [y/n] begins to experience some more sharp pains in her head.
this time, though, it's much more extreme than before.
then, she's suddenly pushing back from the chair as she stands up, catching everyone's now concerned looks.
"i... i'm sorry. i think... i need to lie down — it seems that i'm still having some headaches." she murmurs in an embarrassed tone as she starts to sway slightly and her eyesight gets blurry and splotchy.
logan immediately stands up, becoming much more worried than before.
he places a hand over her back and the other on her shoulder as she begins to groan in pain — she's never felt headaches this bad before.
"i'm going to help her get back upstairs." he announces, not caring if he seems rude, his attention completely on the young woman in pain.
"yes, you should," katherine agrees, after standing up and placing her hand up to [y/n]'s forehead.
she frowns at how warm she is. "she's burning up. she really should lie down — maybe, just for a little bit, or until y'all leave tomorrow morning."
logan doesn't say anything in response. though, he understands what she's saying and is mentally agreeing himself.
[y/n] gulps guiltily, both feeling bad for all of the issues her health is causing and because she really doesn't understand why she's been in so much pain recently.
for only a moment, she leans her head against logan's chest, the sudden nausea becoming way too much for her in the moment.
logan, not quite expecting such an open and vulnerable action from her, breathes in a deep breath as he allows the physical contact. only because it's her.
"alright," he suddenly says, wrapping one of his arms around her waist and turning to face katherine.
"i'll be back to help laura and charles to bed." he states, nodding to them, who've both stopped their eating to watch [y/n] in further concern — they all know that she's only been acting like she's fine, but they didn't expect everything to get worse for her.
[y/n] barely acknowledges anything after that — the pain she feels is just too distracting for her to hear the worry in logan's voice, or to see the concern everyone in the room holds for her.
though, as logan brings her into his arms — bridal style — and walks them up the stairs, she lets out a barely containable cry.
this causes his eyebrows to furrow together in both concern and confusion. "what's wrong, doll?"
she cries again, hating how worried he is for her.
"i... i hate this... " she says through her heavy breaths that match with her small cries.
"hate what?"
"this — being so pathetic and weak of a human being that i can't even make it through the night." she mumbles, but he hears her completely, considering of how close they are.
"sweetheart—" he begins to say, knowing where this conversation is going, just as they reach the doorway of the room that she'd slept in before.
but, she interrupts him, "—no."
as her voice comes out in emotional stutters, she forces herself out of his arms as carefully as she can.
as soon as she's standing, she begins to feel light-headed again.
"[y/n]—" he says again as he notices that same sick-to-her-stomach expression on her face.
"no... i can't do this." she whispers shakily as a bunch of strands of her hair falls over her face.
though, honestly? this small little detail is something that she could care less about.
logan frowns, not sure of what she means. "what do you mean by that? can't do what?"
she lets out a slightly unhinged laugh as she shakes her head.
"i can't help laura... if i can't even survive," she mutters, taking in a deep breath as she leans against the doorway.
logan tilts his head to the side in concern for her.
he waits for her to continue, knowing that she's not going to stop until she gets what she needs to say out.
"i mean, this behavior isn't fucking normal for me! i have never had these types of issues before, when it comes to my health. this is all happening so suddenly, and i can't understand why."
"you know it could easily just be stress. you've been so worried about the kid and charles lately. i'm sure everything is fine." logan says, stepping forward to help her into the room.
she doesn't budge for a moment, not ready to accept that this is her life now.
she ducks her head down as he places a hand over her shoulder, her bottom lip quickly becoming harshly pulled in between her teeth. her eyebrows raise as tears blur her eyesight very quickly.
"c'mon. let's get you to bed, alright?" he murmurs, trying to stay patient with her, knowing that she's been going through an awful lot in the past few weeks — maybe, even longer.
i mean, logan can't know for sure how many months she's been with laura. or if she's been going through all this trauma, long before she ever met the little girl.
and it's not like he's forgotten about the guilt and anxiety she's been experiencing lately because of the people she's had to kill, in order to protect laura, who she's grown to love and see as her own daughter.
"logan... " she trails off as she finally, finally looks him in the eye with fear in her eyes for the first time ever.
"what if i can't protect her? w—what happens... if something happens to me and i can't keep her safe?" she whispers tremblingly, some of the tears escaping her eyes and sliding down to her cheeks.
normally, she'd be embarrassed to let anyone see her like this — like she's pathetic or weak.
but, this is logan.
he's been much more vulnerable than anyone she's ever known.
also, the fact that he could never judge her for being terrified when he's felt so much worse than her.
this time, though, he stops in place. he no longer tries to get her to the bed.
especially, when he sees the scared look placed on her face, and just how vulnerable she's allowing herself to be with him — even though, she'd never do that with anyone else.
"what are you saying?"
"let's just face it, logan. i'm... obviously getting sick — or something. i don't know what it is, but something is happening to me. and i don't think i'll survive it. which means... " she trails off as she takes in a deep inhale of shaky breaths, trying to accept what she's saying — she needs to make peace with it.
"which means what?" he questions her in a harsh tone of voice, obviously not liking where this conversation is heading.
"it means that i don't have long. and we've barely even gotten to where we need to be, in order for laura to cross the border. i can't help her if i'm dead, logan — you know that." she finally spits out what she's been secretly thinking.
a dark look fills his eyes as he shakes his head, jaw clenching impossibly hard.
"no. i don't know that — we don't know that. you don't know that you're going to die." his statement is spit out in a negative tone of voice, showing that he refuses to believe that it's true.
maybe, it's because he has found himself growing to care for her — way more than he ever planned to.
after all, she and laura aren't strangers to him — not anymore.
"logan, i know... t—that you don't want to hear this." she starts, still leaning against the doorway, clenching her eyes shut and taking in a deep breath at the thought of what she has to say next.
"i know how much pain and loss you've experienced. and i wish and hope that you don't have to experience it... ever again. but, we have to face the facts."
now, she opens her eyes and looks up at him again with more tears spilling.
"and the fact is... i might die. and if i do — whether that's from what my body is experiencing right now, or getting myself killed — i need you to promise me that you'll do right by laura."
he grunts, growing more frustrated and annoyed by the second.
it's obvious — and understandable — that he does not want to have this conversation right now.
or ever, actually.
"she's your daughter — whether you can accept it or not. you are her parent. maybe... even more than i am. after all, i'm just a woman who cares for her and sees her as my child — even when she isn't. but, you, logan... you are her father — you both share the same dna and pain."
he stays silent after hearing this, however.
even if he has so many things to say to her, he doesn't say it, because he knows that she has more she wants to say.
"you have a chance with her. she's not too far gone — she can be better. and you can teach her how to be. but, you have to protect her and get to that border — no matter what happens. she needs a normal and healthy life, where she isn't treated like a weapon." she says, gulping down her pride as she readies herself to say her next choice of words.
"and... of course i want nothing more than to be right there with you guys, when she gets to have the better life she deserves," she states, pausing as that life flashes in the back of her mind.
but, as it disappears, just as fast as it came, she sighs and blinks away the tears. "but, that might not happen. no matter how much i want that future, i have to accept that it might not happen. and... i need you to give her that, okay? she needs a different life than this. she is only a child — one that doesn't deserve to be hunted down like an animal and killed because they think they can't control her. she deserves better than that."
[y/n] forces a smile to her lips.
"she needs you, logan. and i need you to promise me that you'll do what i ask of you — for her sake." she finishes as more tears fall.
he's silent for a moment. but, the anger and denial is quite clear and evident on his face.
noticing this, she steps forward, despite the nausea and pounding of her head that she still feels. "loga—"
"no!" he yells suddenly as his eyes meet hers.
she jumps slightly, worry filling her as she notices the raw emotions swirling around in his eyes.
"no. we're not having this conversation, alright? you're not dying. so, stop with this damn martyr act." he tells her harshly, trying to ignore her hurt expression.
it's a few moments, filled with complete silence and tension slowly building up in the air.
though, logan doesn't care.
or maybe, that's just what he wants it to seem like as he gently grabs onto her waist and side again, silently helping her over to the bed.
they don't exchange any words as he helps her get under the covers, before walking over to the door.
though, before he can shut the door behind him and leave her to her overwhelming emotions and thoughts, she calls out to him, "logan."
he turns to face her, keeping his face stoic as he looks at her in question.
"i want her to sleep in here — just this once." she mumbles shakily, refusing to look him in the eyes.
he silently nods, before walking out and shutting the door, needing to get out of there before he suffocates in that room with her extremely hurt expression.
—————
SHE WAKES UP TO SCREAMS of terror filling the entire house.
[y/n] immediately throws her body up as she lets out a gasp, searching the dark room.
but, she knows that scream — laura.
with a protective instinct towards the little girl, the slightly weak woman stumbles out of the bed and continues to struggle to get out of the room.
once she has the door open, she races into the hall, following the sounds of laura's whimpers and screams, only to find her lying down on the floor of the room that charles had recently fallen asleep in.
"laura? what's going o—?" she starts to question, not quite seeing the full scene of the bedroom.
but, when she does, she sputters and gasps as she takes in the bloody scene before her and the robot-like man that looks way too familiar for her liking.
laura races over to [y/n], hiding behind her as the older woman continues to watch in shock and hurt as charles continues to lose more and more blood by every passing second.
"charles... " [y/n] whispers as tears fall down to her cheeks, not wanting to leave him to bleed out, but also needing to protect laura, who's shaking in fear from behind her.
"it's okay, darling. get laura somewhere safe."
"what? i—" [y/n] wants to say no, but the murderous glint in the enemy's eyes causes her to slowly back away, before turning to laura and kneeling down.
"sweetheart, go find logan. tell him what happened and you tell him to take you with him and get the hell away from here, okay?" she tells her hurriedly, ignoring the pang in her heart at the fact that this is going to be the last time they will ever see each other.
laura cries out, shaking her head and refusing to leave her as tears flood her face. "n—no. i can't leave!"
despite, not saying it, it's clear to [y/n] that what laura's trying to tell her is that she can't leave her behind.
she nods, her cries barely containable as she dips her head as she struggles with her emotions.
but, when she hears his footsteps nearing them and she glances back to see him getting closer and closer to them, she pulls herself together and pushes her away from her.
"laura, go! i'll be fine — i promise." she tells her, despite the fact that she's only lying to protect her.
as the older woman begs her to go with just her pleading eyes, laura hesitates.
but, as [y/n] stands up and turns to face the monster behind them, laura hesitates once more, before turning and running down the steps and races out the front door that's wide open.
as soon as she realizes that the girl is safe and away from the violence, [y/n] spits in his face.
"you're not touching her, you psychotic bastard!" she yells, pulling out her knife — the one she always keeps hidden in a strap she has wrapped around her waist.
he only yells angrily and slaps her to the ground.
she cries out, before she looks back up at him, noticing that he's not done with her yet.
as she winces and pushes herself back further down the hall, he pulls out a needle connected to a tube with some type of scary-looking liquid inside of it.
then, he pulls her closer to him by one of her ankles and injects it into her neck, causing her to groan through the pain, before her body quickly becomes to grow weak.
in the next few moments, all she wants to do is close her eyes. she's just so damn cold and tired.
but, as he assumes that she's about to pass out and begins walking down the stairs in search of laura, [y/n] carefully — and struggles to — get up and stumbles her way down, determined to protect laura.
just as logan walks back and closer to the house from walking around with will — and encountering some complicated trouble — he finds laura, running out of the house with a look of terror swirling around in her eyes.
she heaves in a bunch of breaths as he stops her from running past him. "hey, hey. what's going on, kid?"
she simply shakes her head hurriedly, tears beginning to cloud up in her eyes. "charles, dead. [y/n] sacrificed herself." she bluntly says with an edge of fear, still not able to say complete sentences.
"dammit!" he mutters, realizing what she means and putting it all together, before he looks back down at her with his eyebrows knitted together in worry.
"where? where exactly?" he exclaims in question, trying to not take it out on her as fear and immense concern begins to fill his entire body.
laura only points back to the house. "upstairs."
without any hesitation, logan turns to will.
"watch her for me, will you? make sure she stays safe." he tells him, who nods in agreement — though, he's a little confused too — before he races inside and makes it to the stairs.
though, what he finds before him leaves him completely and utterly speechless; blood is trailing the floor of where charles was last, and [y/n] struggles to stand as she tries to fight the man that strangely looks exactly like logan.
"stay... the hell... away from her!" the young woman yells at him, her speech slightly slurred as she struggles to stay awake, trying — and failing — to fight him off.
after all, this is a stronger and much more powerful version of the famous wovlerine.
"[y/n]!" logan yells as he sees the obvious pain she's in, along with all of the injuries she now has — thanks to that lovely injection she's just started to experience.
she becomes distracted for a moment, her terrified and worried eyes catching his.
after she heard his voice call out for her, all she could think about is that this is the last time they'll see each other.
because she knows that she can't fight this very scary version of him, and logan just has to take laura and get the hell out of here, before either of them gets captured and killed — at least, that's what she knows.
but, the evil version of logan takes this moment of distraction to get the upper-hand on her; his claws grow out of in between his knuckles and forcefully thrusts them into her stomach.
blood spurts out of her mouth as it becomes even more extremely hard for her to stay awake.
not only is she currently fighting whatever the hell that syringe was that just got jammed into her neck, but now, she's being practically impaled by the evil-logan's claws.
more blood spills from her mouth and lips as she chokes on the air, trying to fight the pain she feels over all of this — she's only human, after all.
"[y/n]!" logan yells her name again. this time, though, both anger and worry is evident in his voice.
though, something in her makes her stop fighting the other logan — she knows that she’s going to die.
that's why her gaze finds logan's, who's just about ready to kick the other him's ass for hurting her — charles as well, too, obviously.
"get h—her... out of here. now... " she sputters, more blood spurting out of her mouth.
"please... she... s—she needs you!" she yells, trying to keep the evil logan-spawn distracted for as long as possible.
though, logan shakes his head, not being able to let her go.
"no. we're going to get out of this — i'm not letting you die."
but, evil-logan could care less about this romantic exchange between them as he kicks her body back to the ground and his claws slide out of her now wounded body.
then, without another word, he walks down the steps, giving the real logan a challenging look — trying to size him up, i suppose.
[y/n]'s vision goes blurry and soon enough, her eyes slowly close.
everything goes dark as she — this time — can't stay awake anymore. her body's just too damn tired.
—————
"I'M SORRY. THERE'S NOT MUCH i can do. whatever it was that was injected into her body... it's taking effect quite fast. i can't delay it, and i can't fix it." an unfamiliar voice says, waking the injured young woman from her long, long sleep.
"what do you mean you can't fix it? you're a doctor! this is what you do — you're supposed to save lives! why can't you save her?!" that familiar angry voice that she knows so well yells in utter frustration.
there's a pause, before the stranger speaks again, "i'm sorry. if this was a normal injury, sure, i could treat it. but, it's not," he states, as an annoyed grunt comes from logan, quickly causing him to continue. "frankly, i don't know how she's survived this long — she should've died the second she was injected with that mysterious liquid. but, what i can tell you, is that she's strong."
a sigh is heard, before he speaks again, his voice now filled with pity. "all you can do right now, is enjoy your time with her and make peace with the fact that she doesn't have much time left — before she's going to die."
hearing all of this isn't new to [y/n].
she suspected something else was going on — something that could very much result in killing her.
but, hearing the heartache and pain in logan's voice brings tears to her closed eyelids.
the doctor apologizes once more, before he leaves the room and shuts the door behind him.
after another moment of silence, logan talks to the younger girl in the room, "it's okay — she's going to be okay. she's strong. she'll get through this."
though, the fact that he's lying to laura, in order to keep her from breaking down, doesn't sit well with [y/n].
"don't lie to her. she doesn't need things to be sugar-coated." she croaks out as she slowly opens her eyes.
she flinches from the bright light that hangs from the ceiling, before moving to sit up.
as she looks over to them, she notices the worry displayed on both of their faces.
but, the tear-stained cheeks of laura's concerns her the most.
laura doesn't need to tell [y/n] what she's feeling because she feels it just as much.
she nods in silent agreement, before opening her arms. "i know, baby. i know. c'mere." she murmurs, tears blurring her eyesight.
the little girl lets out a breathless sob and races into the older woman's arms, hugging her so tight, as if she's afraid that if she lets go, [y/n]'s going to disappear.
[y/n] sighs in relief, happy to have the girl near her, once again — she really did think that she was going to die on the munson property.
though, thinking back on that whole entire situation, [y/n] pulls away and looks over at logan for the first time.
she turns back to laura, giving her a sad smile.
"hey, why don't you go out to the waiting room, yeah? i need to talk to logan." she murmurs, her gaze finding his again, not being able to look away from him.
laura wordlessly nods and walks out, sensing that the two adults need some time alone.
as soon as she's gone, [y/n] clears her throat as she begins to dread asking the question that's been on her mind since she woke, just seconds ago.
though, before she can quite ask what she desperately feels that she needs to, he clears his throat as he steps closer to her.
"how are you feeling?" his voice comes out gruff, but also, filled with worry and hesitation.
"logan, that doesn't matter right now." she gulps as he rolls his eyes and throws his hands up in the air in clear frustration.
"of course it does! why do you always do this?" he questions, jaw clenched as he watches her flinch.
"do what?" she asks in a meek voice, trying to ignore the pang in her heart over how much he cares about her.
he sighs, regretting how harsh he was — he's acting just like he had that night, before everything had gotten worse.
"why do you treat yourself like you're expendable?"
[y/n] slumps in defeat, pulling her bottom lip in between her teeth — like she's been doing repeatedly — and knawing over it in anxious nerves.
logan crosses his arms over his chest, raising a brow at her as he waits for her to answer him.
though, it doesn't come.
she simply stays silent, not sure of how to answer him.
i mean... how do you even answer a question like that?
it's hard to explain why she acts the way she does — especially, when it's tied to how she acts with herself — when it's all she's ever known, her entire life.
[y/n] has always been hard on herself, as well as being reckless with her life.
though, when she met laura, that all changed — she knows that she has to stay alive, in order to protect her.
but, that doesn't mean that she doesn't hate herself or have really unhealthy coping mechanisms. because she does — thanks to her family, of course.
"[y/n]." logan calls out, snapping her out of her dark thoughts.
her eyes snap up to meet his, shock filling them — she'd forgotten where she was for a mere moment.
"i... i—i don't know, okay? i'm just used to being this way." she stutters, not sure she wants to have this conversation with him anymore.
finally making up her mind, she stands up from the table she'd been lying on, minutes before.
she sways a bit, catching logan's attention further-more, but she shakes it off as she starts to walk past him.
"we don't need to talk about this right now, logan. we need to get laura across that border." she states shakily, though she tries to hide it, as she almost makes it past him.
but, logan, having been too worried about her for so long, grunts annoyedly and gently grasps her arm, just as she's about to brush past him.
"we're not going anywhere, until we talk about this." he states seriously as she freezes in place at his words.
she sighs, wishing he just didn't care this much in the moment.
"why? logan, laura is the most important thing right now — not having a therapy session." she mutters, not daring to turn around and look at him, fearing that she will break down and spill everything to him, once she looks him in the eyes.
"you need to talk about this, sweetheart. if you don't, it's going to get you killed. and you can't afford that when you need to be there for laura."
she rolls her eyes, lowly scoffing.
hearing him talk about her mental health like this makes her mad.
how can he talk about this — like this — when he doesn't even believe the same for himself?
she whips around to face him, her face full of obvious irritation.
"really, logan? you really want to talk about this with me? when you can't even do the same for yourself?" she exclaims, finding it so damn aggravating that he's being such a hypocrite.
his eyes widen in shock, having not expected her to snap at him like this — she's usually so calm and collected.
if only he knew just how much she struggles with the anger issues she gets from her family.
"excuse me?" he asks incredulously, snapping himself out of his shocked state and quickly going back to his cold act.
"you heard me! you're trying to tell me to try to talk about my issues and try to see that i have a good life ahead of me, when you can't even do that yourself! you don't want to live, do you?" she exclaims, throwing her own hands up in the air.
she scoffs as a dark look takes over his face, jaw ticking as he tilts his head to the side.
"you really wanna do this right now, doll?" his voice almost comes out in a growl, while [y/n] refuses to let it scare her — she knows that he'd never hurt her, especially when he's just acting this tough, most likely to push her away.
"yes, because i don't need you to act like you care about me this much!" she spits out, not taking a moment to realize what she just said.
he barks out a laugh, tossing his head back in sarcastic disbelief.
"really? you think i don't care about you?"
her entire body goes weak at his question.
she didn't even realize she said it. but, there's no taking it back — not now.
with a relentless sigh, she bites down on her bottom lip and stays silent as she ducks her head down to hide the obvious tears that are just about to spill — she doesn't want him to see what kind of effect he has on her.
"well?" he asks again — much more harshly, might i add.
"yes." she whispers weakly, knowing that she only blurted out the truth.
because, sure, she'd hoped that he cared about her, but there's been some other side of her that kept telling her that he could care less about her and just couldn't wait to finally be rid of her and laura.
"you seriously fucking think i don't give a damn about you and you're well-being — along with the kid, too — at all?" he questions further, still not fully calmed down in the moment.
in fact, it seems that he's only getting more frustrated by every passing second.
without another word, she nods.
shame fills her at the thought of losing him, all because she couldn't keep her damn mouth shut.
that, and the fact that she's used to everyone leaving her.
though, she also feels hatred towards herself — she hates growing attached and dependent on others.
and losing logan? well, that scares her shitless.
especially, since people hurting and leaving her, is all that was ever done to her.
anytime she grows to care for someone and begins to trust them, they leave her all alone, only with the heartaching conclusion that she did something wrong to make them abandon her.
that, or she assumes there's something wrong with her that is so terrible that they couldn't stand her anymore.
something snaps inside of logan, not understanding how she could be so blind.
"if i didn't care about you, why would i be refusing to accept the fact that you're dying? or the fact that i care about you so much that i'm willing to give the kid a chance?" he asks as he steps closer to her, causing her breath to catch in her throat at how close they're getting to each other.
"logan—" she says hesitantly, starting to really regret this entire conversation, all together.
he shakes his head in frustration. "no. don't. we're going to have this conversation. whether you like it or not." he says in a dark voice, his facial expression becoming something of a mix between anger and bewilderness.
"i don't know where the fuck you got the idea that i don't care about you. because you're wrong. why would i change my mind about helping you and laura, if i didn't give a shit about you? why would i be protecting you this entire time, if i didn't care? or calm you down from a panic attack, or help you feel better about the blood that's now on your hands? or take care of you and make sure that you're safe?" he yells this time, completely frustrated at her for thinking for just one second that he doesn't care for her at all.
though, you'd think that a man like logan wouldn't admit to caring for her. especially, with everything he's been through, and all of the people he's lost.
i mean, the man has practically lost everything.
"i didn't want any of this. i just wanted to take care of charles and protect caliban and get through the time i have left, before everything would be going to shit, once again, like it always does." he says seriously, not taking notice of the tears flooding [y/n]'s eyes, or the trembling of her bottom lip.
he's far too overwhelmed with the current conversation.
though, it's barely even a conversation at this point — it's just him yelling and raising his voice at her.
"i didn't want any part of it. but, then you came into my life and i found myself wanting something more than the miserable fucking life i was living before. and along the ride, the more i got to know you and the kid, i've grown to see things differently — i saw you differently." he says, this time his voice becoming much more genuine and gentle.
[y/n] swears that her heart stops and the whole world disappears.
"w—what do you mean?"
"i mean that you've changed me. and i'm not going to fucking stand around, while you risk your life repeatedly, with no regards of the fact that we need you."
tears spill to her cheeks as her heartbeat quickens at his admission.
"we?" she asks in barely a whisper, wondering if she just misheard him.
"yes, we." he states with no hesitation, before suddenly walking all the way over to her.
he hesitates on his next actions, hoping to god that he hasn't read too much into the situation.
god, the thoughts running through his head is making him feel like a love-sick teenaged boy.
but, something changes when she looks up at him with both hopeful and shocked eyes. "logan—"
she stops herself, wondering if she's getting the right signs.
does he really want to kiss her, or is she just an idiot?
"doll, i can't fucking take it anymore. i can't be around you, without doing this before i regret it." he mutters as he brings his fingers up to her face, wiping away the tears on her face.
her eyebrows knit together in confusion as she looks up at him. "what do you mean? do what?"
"this." he simply says, placing his hands over her cheeks and then slams his lips onto hers.
a shocked sound comes from her, it now becoming a smothered breath as they both close their eyes and melt into it.
logan smiles into the kiss as [y/n] presses her body closer to his and wraps her arms around his neck.
then, as she opens her mouth just slightly to let out a content sigh, he takes the moment to bring the kiss to become more heated as their tongues meet together.
when they pull away, [y/n] places her hands over his chest as she takes a deep breath, heaving for air to get back into her lungs.
"wow. that was... " she trails off in a murmur, still very much speechless.
"yeah, i know." he mumbles, a small hint of a smile on his lips.
"did you really mean all of that? what you said?" she asks in a soft voice, after they stand in a few minutes of comfortable silence.
he nods. "yeah. i had to get through to you that i do care." he murmurs as they both pull away from each other.
after a few more minutes of silence, [y/n] asks the question she's been wanting to ask since she first woke up, "so, you gonna tell me where charles is yet?"
but, the answer she receives — along with the distraught expression that takes over logan's face — tells her all that she needs to know.
—————
SOMETHING IN HER KNEW THAT everything that'd happen the next day would end with only blood and innocent kids getting hurt.
but, she didn't question how she knew that.
she only knew that she'd die to protect laura and those kids. no matter what — even if things had shifted between her and logan and she wanted to try to stay alive for him.
maybe it was the fact that finding out about charles' death had more of an effect on her than anyone anticipated.
or the fact that the munson family had experienced so much pain and loss because of them.
really, it doesn't matter.
but, she wouldn't dare let transigen take laura or those kids and put them through more hell — she needed to put an end to that psychotic group.
the worst part was leaving logan while he was asleep.
she hadn't said goodbye — she only gave him a long lasting look with a sad smile, before leaving with the kids.
and laura had only assumed that [y/n] wanted to make sure they got across safely.
technically, that's not a lie. but, she hadn't exactly told anyone the full truth.
and she was right.
somehow transigen had found out where they were headed and ambushed them in the woods.
and of course, the young woman decided to stay behind to fight the men off — to protect the kids.
with a yell to them to 'get out of here, now', [y/n] struggled to fight the men — her pain in her body was only getting worse, thanks to the other stronger version of logan — but, succeeded in distracting them.
that was until one of them stabbed her in one of her legs and tied her to a tree while she was distracted.
and as they leave to hunt down the kids — one by one — something in [y/n] snaps.
she's never felt so much gut-wrenching pain over the thought of losing a child that was never truly hers in the first place.
but, the thought of those kids — those innocent children, who only want freedom and normalcy — being brutally murdered for being born and having the powers that they do, changes something in her.
her blood runs cold as a shiver runs through her body at the thought of finding their bodies.
scorching, hot tears spill from her eyes and she just can't help it as she lets out the loudest, most pain-filled scream.
the kids hear this, and it makes them stop for a moment.
but, this distracts them for too long as some of the men have found them and begin to capture some of them.
though, another yell — one that belongs to a very familiar, protective man — distracts some of the men and laura helps the rest of the kids break free.
[y/n], now exhausted from that one scream and the agonizing pain filling her entire body, she helplessly sobs in both emotional and physical pain. she feels so weak.
but, before she can fall further into that negative and dark mindset, a pair of heavy footsteps makes her freeze in her place.
though, as she looks up, she realizes that it's only logan.
as he kneels down in front of her, his face filled with worry for her, she lets out a cry of relief. "logan?"
he musters up a soft smile — one that's only recently been reserved for her — and tears the ropes free of her hands.
"hey, sweetheart. you didn't think you'd be doing this alone, did ya?" he asks, trying to lighten the mood as he rips off a piece of flannel off of his shirt and wraps it around her leg that's currently bleeding out.
tears find their way to her eyes again as her bottom lip trembles.
"they're going to kill them, logan." she cries out, not being able to think about anything else.
a look of both anger and worry for laura and the other kids finds its way to his face as he helps her up, before placing one of her arms over his shoulder.
"don't worry. we're going to help them."
"promise?" she asks in a whisper.
he nods as he begins to walk further into the woods, in the direction of the screaming kids.
"i promise. we're not leaving until they're safe. alright?" he tells her as she starts to walk on her own, ignoring the pain.
she nods, agreeing with him. "good. because i had the same idea." she mumbles as they get to the entrance of the field that the children are being dragged to.
ultimately, with some hesitation, the couple decides to split up.
though, logan hands her some weapons to help her, before placing a loving kiss to her temple and murmuring a 'be safe'.
then, they're both sneaking around trying to scope the area out, and trying to find an opening to get this shit done without too much blood and death.
worry and confusion fills [y/n] as logan hurries right into the middle of the field, obviously going for the confrontation approach as she finds laura.
the girl hides behind her by a tree as they both watch the scene playing out before them.
"oh, look who it is!" one of them sarcastically exclaims, before slamming the end of his gun into a boy's head, immediately knocking him out.
the doctor and logan talk; the doctor tries to play nice, while logan is just not having it.
while there's nothing much happening, [y/n] kneels down and faces laura.
"you think you can go to your friends without getting caught? i gotta help logan get the bad guys, okay?"
laura nods, silent worry evident on her face, but she doesn't say anything as she sneaks back towards the nearest vehicle, which is where the rest of the other kids are being held by.
[y/n] takes a deep breath as she begins to sneak closer, making sure if a fight happens, she'll be able to step in — even if she is only human.
but then, suddenly, logan shoots both donald and the doctor in pure anger.
donald yells in pain, holding his now destroyed hand and runs over to one of the other vehicles closest to him.
the fighting starts as laura attacks some of the men, near the rest of the children.
one of the other kids being held uses their powers to electrecute the men sitting inside the vehicle.
[y/n] takes the moment to step forward and shoot two of the men in the head, shocking the kids.
then, she turns to laura. "get you and your friends out of here. logan and i will handle the rest."
laura wordlessly nods as she helps the kids get up and get out of their handcuffs.
but, as logan follows the asshole that no longer has a hand anymore, the other version of the wolverine — the evil one — appears behind one of the doors of the vehicle and shoves him back with pure rage.
"logan!" [y/n] yells, stepping forward in distress as she completely forgets about the kids that are getting ready to run.
the two wolverines continue to fight each other — the evil version having more of an upper-hand.
laura takes out the rest of the men as [y/n] steps forward when the evil wolverine stabs logan in the back and throws him into the air, far away from him.
something dark swirls around in her gut — some of it is just her being protective of logan, and the other is something that she's never felt before in her entire life.
"get the hell away from him, you fucking piece of shit!" she screams as she steps in front of logan protectively and starts shooting her gun.
this, though — no matter how many times or where she shoots her gun at him — only makes him more angry.
becoming a little nervous, [y/n] backs up as she pulls out one of her daggers.
just as he gets close enough to her to hurt her, she thrusts the weapon into his side.
but, this has no effect on him as he shoves his claws into her gut — repeating history.
a shocked gasp leaves her as she tries to keep the whimpers of pain shoved deep inside of her.
logan growls as he watches the evil version of him find satisfaction in hurting her.
then, as he stands up, [y/n] slowly backs up — despite all of the pain she feels — as the claws pull themselves out of her stomach.
the evil wolverine prepares to strike her again, but logan isn't about to let that happen; he rushes forward and shoves her behind him as he uses all of his strength to throw the much more powerful monster away from them.
then, he grabs a broken door off of the ground and tries to take out his head from his neck with it.
but, it doesn't help that when the monstrous version of logan sees the doctor dead on the ground.
there's also donald deciding to motivate him by telling him that logan killed him — this obviously brings him to fight back against logan and shove him and the door to the ground.
he growls angrily as [y/n] runs over to help logan get up.
but, then, donald shoots a graveling hook into one of logan's legs.
[y/n] yells out in pure irritation as she turns to shoot him in the head.
he lets out a shocked breath as he falls to the ground.
[y/n]'s not sure if that killed him or not, but at least he'll be done for — at least, for a few minutes.
while both [y/n] and laura are busy trying to fight different people, logan angrily rips the hook out of his leg, yelling in beyond-imaginable pain.
more of the kids appear to drown donald in the nature of the grass, which eventually kills him.
as the evil wolverine goes for laura, logan and [y/n] share a look, before she's running to get the little girl to stay behind her, while logan stays to fight the other version of him.
"stay behind me, okay? this isn't your fight."
laura — for the first time in a while — sends her mother-figure a terrified look.
[y/n] sighs regretfully. "it's okay. he's not going to touch you." she says, before facing the evil logan before them.
as she notices that the kid that donald had with him, is trying to lift up a heavy truck near them, [y/n] grabs laura's hand and shoves her in logan's direction.
"you guys need to get out of here."
"no! not without you!" laura yells, tears filling her eyes as logan pulls her close and hesitantly keeps her behind him.
[y/n] gulps down her pride as she allows a few tears to escape. "i know. but, you have to. logan will protect you — i promise. but, you have to go. now!" she yells, before the monster in front of them comes to notice them all very quickly.
laura hesitates, but stays with logan.
"sweetheart—" logan begins to say, but [y/n] refuses to look him in the eyes as she steps forward and tries to fight off the evil version of him — she can't look him in the eyes as she realizes that there's only one way this is going to end.
and if it's going to be up to her, she'll do just about anything to make sure he and laura — and the other kids that remain — get out of there safely, and alive.
as she fights the monster once more, [y/n] yells to the real logan, not turning to look at him, "get yourselves out of here! i didn't survive all of this, just for you to die on my watch. go!"
the pain in her body becomes even much more hard to bear as she pushes the evil logan back, just as the other kid is able to make it so that the truck lands directly on top of him.
with a sigh of relief, logan and laura start walking towards [y/n], but, she's not willing to risk that monster surviving this and killing them and everyone else.
"no! you guys have to go!"
but, it's too late.
just as she turns back to face the vehicle, one side lifts itself up, before falling back down — he's still alive.
the thought of having to watch them die brings back the searing, hot tears as she runs over to them and pushes them further away.
"go, please!" she cries out, needing to do anything to keep them safe.
the evil wolverine eventually escapes from under the truck and when he's standing — quite angrily and vengeful, might i add — he runs straight for her.
though, instead of running in the other direction, [y/n] clutches her dagger and runs straight at him.
once she reaches him, she swallows down her fear and slams the tip of the dagger straight into the side of his head as she kicks him back, his back hitting the edge of one of the many vehicles.
this only makes him more angry, though; in a fit of more intensified rage, he slams his claws into her stomach — for the second time that day — before dragging her to a broken stump with sharp edges surrounding it.
as body meets sharpness and wood, laura screams out as the blood spurts out of [y/n]'s lips.
she chokes as she struggles to breath — even more so, this time — body wracking with breathless sobs.
her eyes meet logan's.
his face is utterly torn. tears — something he never has let happen in a very long, long time — have spilled to his cheeks.
"p—please... " she cries out in between the blood that's repeatedly falling from her lips and the struggle to breathe as the evil logan mercilessly shoves her back against the sharp edges of wood, before stabbing her with his claws once, twice...
"g—get her out... of h—here!" she finishes, just before laura has had enough and snaps, grabbing one of the guns off of the ground and shoots the monster straight in the head.
this destroys half of his face, before he limply falls to the ground, unmoving.
both logan and laura run over to [y/n] as she lets out a choked sigh of relief, grateful that she doesn't have to endure any more new injuries.
though, she's still growing more and more weak by every passing second.
the little girl sobs loudly as she drops the gun to the ground beside them.
without another thought, she lies her head on [y/n]'s chest.
she moves her very shaky hand up to hold laura's as she tries to stay awake — just for a bit longer.
her breaths become much more hollow as logan falls to his knees, right in front of her, on the other side of her.
his face is filled with so many different emotions; love, fear, guilt, worry.
"you know... m—meeting you, james," she pauses, gulping in pain as she tries to find the words she needs to say before it's too late, while logan's heart almost stops beating at the realization that she just called him by his real name.
"it... was the best thing that ever happened to me... " she trails off as an extremely pain-filled cough with more blood falling from her lips escapes her.
laura cries once more, not wanting to lose the woman who's only ever protected and loved her, despite all the bad things she was forced to do.
"don't go... " she lets out as her tears fall onto [y/n]'s weaker-by-the-minute-body.
[y/n] chokes on her own cries as she clutches the little girl's hand in a tighter grasp.
"i—i'm so sorry." she cries out as her heart pangs at what her possible death is doing to both laura and logan.
he clenches his jaw angrily as he bites down on his bottom lip in frustration.
"why didn't you just let me take care of this?" he asks in a tight tone of voice, trying to ignore the extra tears swirling around in his eyes.
she gives him a sad smile, her heart breaking completely. "because... it had to be me." she croaks out as another coughing fit begins to escape her.
"and because i... i couldn't lose you guys... because i—i love you," she whispers, starting to hate the fact that right when the three of them had just started to feel like a real family, something like this tears them apart — forever.
"b—both of you." she finishes, more blood trailing around her lips and sliding down to her chin.
hearing those words leave her lips allows logan to feel so much pain that the tears finally spill.
he ducks his head down, trying to hide his emotions.
[y/n] frowns as she notices this.
"it's... okay. i wouldn't have this any other way," she states as she cups his cheek with her other bloody hand. "dying for the man i love, and... the little girl that's become like my d—daughter? it... s—sounds kinda like a pe—perfect ending to a great story." she murmurs, trying to hide how much she wishes to just stay with them.
but, on another hand, she's also made peace with it — that she's going to die.
because — deep down — despite how much she didn't want to accept it, she knew that sacrificing herself for the people she loves dearly, is the only way she wanted to go out.
"logan... " she coughs, once more, as her breaths becomes much more shallow — death is almost about to knock on her door.
he looks at her, waiting for her to tell him what she needs to.
"p—please... be happy. don't... d—don't let my death be the end of the happiness and the good life you both deserve."
as those words sink into his head, he desperately wants to tell her that there is no happiness or life without her — she's become like home to him.
for the first time, in a very long time, he's grown to want the life he's tried to avoid having — he's been punishing himself for so long that meeting her was the one exception to actually wanting that life. but, with her.
but, before he can say anything — and tell her this — she turns to laura, who hasn’t pulled away from her as she tries to desperately wipe away her tears.
"laur, baby, everything's going to be alright, okay? i know that you're scared. and you have every r—right to... to be. but, logan's gonna protect you and take care of you, o—okay?" she murmurs in stutters, trying to hold on for as long as she can, starting to feel how slow her heart is beating now.
laura cries harder as [y/n] takes one deep breath. "do—don't... don't be the m—monster they made... made you i—into — be b—better." she whispers as her breaths slows now.
before the last beat of her heart hits her body, she sighs with a content, happy smile, despite dying so fast. "take care of e—each o—other... for m—me, o—okay?"
then, as that last beat hits her body and heart, the light slowly leaves her eyes and her face begins to relax as both of her hands drop to the ground, limp and unmoving.
"no!" laura yells in anger and fear as the emotions quickly escape her, now realizing that she's gone.
logan, not being able to handle his own grief, stands up and walks over to laura, without saying anything as he kneels down beside her.
laura jumps into his arms and lets everything out.
they both stand there for god knows how long, only drowning in their grief, with the other kids standing behind them, feeling pity and sympathy for them.
[y/n] may have only known them for a small amount of time, but still, she made an impression on them, for the better.

A Little Wolverine
Tumblr media
Logan and I were invited to the wedding of Erik and Raven that was being held at the school for the gifted that my brother opened to help mutants control their powers and live in society with humans. Brushing my hands down my little blue dress I sighed needing some air so I stepped up outside. The wind blows my hair in my face feeling someone standing in the doorway watching me. "Y/n, is everything alright. You're barely spoken a word the whole night?" Logan's voice filled the air where I glanced over my shoulder giving him a simple answer to my boyfriend. "Yeah everything's fine. Just needed some air."
I heard his boots hit the wooden floor before he gently grabbed my shoulder turning me around so I was facing him. He has his brows raised giving me the look when he knew something was wrong and that I was lieing to him. There was no point in me reading his mind so I just looked at the ground. "Y/n, I'm not a telepath. I can't read your mind. Please tell me what you're keeping from me or I'll go get your brother and make him tell me." He wasn't kidding either he would drag Charles by his wheelchair. "Logan, you're right. I am lieing...only because I don't know how you'll react...that I'm pregnant and it's yours." Clutching my eyes closed I waited for him to storm out. Considering we never talked about having children before we slept together.
"I'm gonna be a father...like for real. This isn’t a mind game?" He asked making me take his hands in mine reassuring him. "It's not a trick. You know I'd never mess with your mind without permission." Suddenly he picked me up spinning me around I'm circles laughing where I gripped his jacket in my hands. Once he sits me on my feet he cups my face in his hands crashing his lips onto mine. I smiled leaning up on my toes since he's taller than me wrapping my arms around his neck. "We're gonna have a little wolverine baby." He rests his forehead against mine grinning down at me.
Let me know if I don't get the personality of his character right
Comments really appreciated ❤️

You hear a throat clear from behind you, followed by a gruff voice. “Bunny… I have something for you.” You turn and smile when your eyes land on Logan, feeling a burst of joy spread through you. You quickly stride forward and wrap your arms around the large man.
“Logan! We’ve– I’ve missed you!” You beam up at him, your brows furrowing as you notice one hand still behind his back. “Whatcha got there?”
He tries to smile, bringing his hand around and showing you a medium-sized box. “I… I baked you something for Valentine’s Day.” His cheeks turn pink, becoming shy under your sparkly gaze. Logan begins to pull back. “But it’s okay if you don’t want them… The children could have them….”
You quickly place your hand on his, your smile becoming more prominent as you begin to open the box. Carefully unravelling the pretty ribbons and lifting the lid, a gasp slips from your lips as your eyes take in the freshly baked bunny biscuits with a red heart in the middle. “Logan… These are so pretty. I don’t want to eat them because I’m afraid I’d destroy your fantastic work.” You slowly pluck one from the box, studying it before connecting your eyes with his. “This is so kind of you. Thank you.” You lean up and place a soft kiss on his reddened cheek.
His hand rubs the back of his neck, smiling softly down at you. “Please eat them, I made them just for you, and I don’t know if they are any good… It was my first time baking for someone.” His little ear twitches and flops down, and his dazzling eyes stare at you in adoration.
You softly bite into the biscuit, eyes falling closed as a moan falls from your lips. “Oh… My… God! These are so good! I am jealous!” You hold it up to his lips, watching him sink his teeth into it, and a groan of pleasure escapes his lips, causing your thighs to squeeze together, remembering the time he devoured you in the same way.
His eyes connect with your wide ones, chewing slowly before your eyes dart down to watch his tongue swipe across his lips. “They are good, probably my second favourite taste.”
A throat clears, causing you to blink and snap out of your daze, your head turning to the side, eyes connecting with your loving hunk of a husband. You smile, bouncing over to him and holding out the very same biscuit. “Hiya, honey! Have a taste of the biscuits Logan baked me.” Ari’s eyes drag from yours to Logans, watching him stare openly at your plump ass. Leaning casually against the wall, Ari looks back at you and smiles before leaning down and taking a bite, enjoying the way you squirm, eyes blown with lust and love as you watch him chew.
“It’s tasty, my love. You did good, Logan.” He nods to the other giant man before leaning down and placing a loving kiss on your lips, enjoying the moan that slips out from the sweetness in both of your mouths.

LOGAN HOWLETT - BROKEN & MENDED
It felt like a dagger went through her heart. Her eyes watched her boyfriend and her best friend kissing in the kitchen. They didn’t know Y/N was there. It seemed that they didn’t care someone would be able to see them. She watched it all with her two eyes. The two people she trusted the most in the entire world broke her heart. How long was this happening? Why was this happening?
The vomit threatened to escape her throat. She was sick to her stomach from the betrayal. Shaking her head, Y/N silently walked away from the scene, heading back to the room she shared with Bucky.
When her eyes landed on the messy bed, she shared with him daily, her stomach flipped. She felt nauseous like never before. How often did he bring Natasha to bed while she was away on a mission? Her feet dragged her to the bathroom, where she ended up vomiting into the toilet.
Y/N stayed on the bathroom floor for another hour, thinking about her next steps. There was no point in crying over spilt milk. Bucky had decided to find peace in other girl’s arms. He had decided to break Y/N’s heart.
Sighing, she slowly got up, washed her face and rinsed her mouth. And then it hit her. How many people knew about this affair? Of course, Steve knew. He had to. He was Bucky’s best friend. Hell, even Sam had to know something.
She fished out a phone from her jeans and texted Tony. He, of all people, would be able to understand her. Once he agreed to see her, she washed her mouth one more time and left for the lab. As expected, Tony was tinkering on one of his suits. There was a big cup of cold coffee on the table that he didn’t drink.
“What’s up, Y/L/N,” Tony asked when he noticed Y/N in the lab. He immediately noticed her body language. Something was off. “What’s going on?”
She sat in an office chair, eyes scanning all the tools scattered around the place. “I need you to do something for me - no questions asked.”
His eyes captured hers, frowning. “Oh no, you can’t pull that card on me. What’s going on? What happened?”
No wonder Y/N wanted a ‘no questions asked’. A few months ago, Tony called Y/N to get him from a club. He was drunk, covered in vomit and upset about something. Y/N didn’t question it. She drove him to the tower, got him to bed, and they never spoke about it again.
Y/N took a deep breath, her lips quivering. She wanted to scream, cry and throw a tantrum like a child. Her heart was breaking some more. “I’m resigning.”
“What?!” Tony jumped on his feet. That statement woke him up. “What do you mean, Y/N? Does Barnes know about that? Are you two planning something? Are you pregnant?”
She shook her head. Damn, that last question got her even more. When did she start to feel the want to have kids with him? “He doesn’t know anything. I need you to accept my resignation and let me silently leave as soon as possible,” she said. “Please.”
Tony wasn’t a fool. He could see the pain in her eyes, how her lips trembled and how she tried to hold it together. Tony was able to put two and two together. Something happened between them - it was over. “Shit,” he shook his head in disbelief. “Holy shit.”
“Please, Tony,” she raised a hand into the air. “I have to do this. If he can’t come clean, I can leave without a word. Two can play this game.”
“But,” he closed the distance and put his hands on the woman’s shoulders. “You can’t leave the Avengers. You are like the little sister I never had. I can kick Barnes’s ass again if you’d like. Say the word and I will detach that damn arm from him.”
Y/N chuckled. It was hard to hold it together and not cry in front of Tony. “We can stay in touch, Stark. Please, don’t make me stay. My heart is broken, shattered into a million pieces. I won’t be able to look them in the eyes-”
“Them?” he interrupted her. “Who’s the woman?”
A tear finally escaped Y/N’s eye. “Natasha,” she whispered.
Tony’s fists clenched. He wanted to curse out loud and throw something into a wall. “I’m sorry,” was all he said to her. “I’m sorry things went to shit like this. Holy fuck, Natasha and Barnes? What the fuck?”
As the dam broke, Tony caught her in his tight embrace and let Y/N cry it out. He wouldn’t do it for anyone but her. As Tony said, Y/N was like his little sister whom he needed to protect. He pushed her away a little to look into her eyes. The pain in them was breaking Tony’s heart.
“Is there anything you need to take?” he asked. “Any photos or personal belongings?”
Y/N thought about it. All the photos she had were with Bucky, Natasha or the team. She didn’t have any family outside the Avengers. Everything she owned had been provided for her.
“No,” she said.
Tony sighed, nodding. “Alright.” He reached into the back pocket of his jeans and took out a wallet. He gave her a black card. “Take it.”
“What? Tony, no, I can’t,” she shook her head.
“Shut up, Y/N,” he frowned at her. “Take the damn card. I have twenty more. Get yourself a hotel, buy new clothes or a car - whatever the fuck you want. Text me from a new number once you settled down. I want to stay in contact with you even when you are on the other side of the world.”
“Oh, Tony.”
“I’ll let you know how the pandemonium went once they realise you are gone,” he chuckled at that thought. “Are you sure about this, Y/N?” he had to ask.
“I don’t owe Bucky anything - not even a stupid explanation. He decided to cheat behind my back with my best friend. God knows how long this has been going on for. I wouldn’t be surprised if Steve and Sam knew about this. I don’t trust any of them anymore, Tony. I was hurt many times before. This is a new level of pain I’ve never felt before. I thought he was it, you know? And look how it ended.”
“I want to say I understand. However, I don’t,” said Tony. “I’ll miss you, kid.”
. . .
Bucky had a phone pressed to his ear. He was walking around the lounge room like a lion in a cage. He cursed under his nose and redialed Y/N’s number. Steve, Sam and Tony walked into the lounge room, chatting. “Has anyone seen Y/N?” Bucky asked them. “I can’t get hold of her.”
“Have you checked your room?” Sam asked and sat on the couch. He put his feet up on the coffee table. “Or she’s with Natasha.”
“I’ve asked Nat. She hasn’t seen her the whole day,” said Bucky, frowning. He tried to call her again. “She’s not responding to texts. Where the hell is she? Did she go on a solo mission?”
“I don’t know anything about it,” Steve shrugged.
Tony crossed arms over his chest. “She left,” he announced.
All eyes turned to him. “What?” Steve asked. “What do you mean by that? Did Fury give her a solo mission?”
“She left,” Tony repeated sternly. Bucky approached the man, confused. “Barnes, come on, let’s not play this game. You think the woman wouldn’t notice?”
“What the fuck are you talking about, Stark?” Bucky spat. “Fuck, Stark, talk. Where the hell is Y/N?”
“Y/N found out about you and Natasha.” Tony’s fists clenched. He wanted to punch Barnes into his face. “How the fuck could you do that to her, Barnes? You didn’t have the balls to tell her the truth, to talk to her. And now, because you betrayed her, she left the tower - the team.”
Steve turned to Bucky, shocked by that revelation. “You and Natasha?” he gasped. “When?”
“Don’t tell me you didn’t know, Rogers,” Tony scoffed.
“Shit,” Sam commented. “What the fuck, dude?”
Bucky didn’t know what to say first. “When she’ll be back?”
Tony had to laugh. “You think she’s coming back? Come on, Barnes. You broke her heart. You cheated on her with her best friend. She’s never coming back. She left because of you. Also,” he turned to the Captain and the Falcon. “She thinks you two know about the affair.”
Sam jumped up on his feet, visibly pissed. “Whoa,” he glared at Barnes. “I don’t know anything about Barnes fucking Romanoff. What the fuck, Bucky? How could you do that to the best woman you could have ever had?”
“Sam, it’s not that simple-”
“The fuck it is,” Sam yelled at him. “I can’t believe you did that,” he said. “I’m so angry at you.”
“Sam. I… It’s…”
“Go fuck yourself, Barnes,” he punched Bucky into his shoulder and left the lounge room.
Bucky sighed, defeated. When he looked up at Steve, he could see the disappointment in his eyes.
Tony had to chuckle. “This is what happens when you think with your dick and not with your head and heart. This is your own doing.”
. . .
A FEW YEARS LATER
It was a big day. Tony Stark threw a massive engagement party for him and Pepper. He finally had the guts to ask the woman of his dreams to marry her.
He invited over a hundred people. He wanted to celebrate his beautiful fianceé, their love and happiness. Or in other words, another reason why to throw a party. Also, this was the perfect opportunity to see Y/N again.
It was almost two years since she left the team. No one knew anything about her except Tony and Pepper. They kept in touch with her the whole time. The couple knew about her new life, new role and more importantly new love. And now, they invited her to celebrate their engagement. Her new man was also invited.
It was supposed to be a big dinner with music and drinks. Everyone was there - the whole Avengers team, some SHIELD agents and even politicians who had a good relationship with the happy couple. And yet, Tony waited for his favourite person to arrive.
He was standing by the bar, nursing a drink. Tony’s eyes wandered around the place, trying to glimpse Y/N in the crowd. The dinner was about to start, and she still wasn’t there. A hand appeared on his shoulder, striking it lovingly. “Don’t worry. She’ll be here soon,” Pepper said to his ear. “She promised to come.”
He was ready to comment on it when his eyes noticed Y/N walk through the entrance, all dressed up and with a smile plastered over her face. A tall, muscular man stood behind her, helping her with her coat. Tony smiled, glad that Y/N had arrived with her new boyfriend. Tony liked that guy a lot. Same humour, both liked the taste of whisky and they dated amazing women.
“See, she’s here,” said Pepper with a smile. She raised a hand, waving to the couple.
“Are you sure about this?” Y/N heard her boyfriend’s voice close to her ear. “You don’t have to do anythin’ that makes you uncomfortable, baby.”
She turned to him, fixing his black suit. The way Logan was staring at her made her knees weak. His eyes were hungry, she was sure of it. When he saw the dress on her, he had to hold himself back. “I know, Lo’. I’m happy you’ve decided to come with me and be my plus one. Tony likes you a lot, to be honest,” she giggled. “Also, I’m done with my past and am focused on my present, with you.”
He wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her closer. He pressed a kiss to her temple. “Come on, Y/N. Your friends are waiting. Nervous?”
“A little bit,” she had to admit.
Logan held her hand proudly. He tried to intimidate people with his glare. Y/N was surprised when she found him dressed in a fancy suit. Yes, it was all black - like he wanted. But damn, he looked sexy.
Together, they walked to Tony and Pepper, greeting them. Y/N hugged them both, while Logan shook hands with Tony and nodded towards Pepper.
“Congratulations, you two,” Y/N said with a smile. “You are finally doing it. I’m so proud of you, Tony. You are growing up,” she teased him.
“How are you holding up?” Pepper asked gently. “How are the kids?” her eyes moved to Logan.
“It’s not easy to teach young mutants,” Logan replied. “They can be a handful, ya know? But they love Y/N.”
Y/N wrapped an arm around Logan’s waist, smiling. “They like all of us. All of them are grateful to have a place to live and feel safe. And, to answer your question, I’m doing good. Am I nervous? Yes. Am I happy? Also yes.”
“I can’t believe you became a teacher in a mutant school,” Tony shook his head in disbelief. “Is it cool that you two are together?” he pointed between the couple. “Isn’t there any strict policy that you cannot date an old man?” he joked.
Logan glared at him. “Hilarious, Stark.”
“Come on, Wolverine. I am just messing around. But seriously, no policy?”
Y/N rolled her eyes. “No, nothing like that. Thank god.”
“Last time, it bit you in the ass,” Tony glared at Y/N.
She sighed. “I know, but why make these policies? I know in the end it can hurt the team, but… “ she shook her head, not finishing.
“Out of curiosity, what would you do if you weren’t allowed to date?” Pepper asked.
Logan and Y/N looked at each other. There was a brief silence. “I’d take her to Canada,” he said after some thinking. “We’d buy ourselves a place, somewhere in the mountains.” He could see how her eyes lit up when he mentioned living far away. “Unfortunately, we had decided to stay and teach young mutants. Who knows what will bring us the future.”
Y/N wanted to press a kiss to his lips. But she knew Logan wasn’t fond of PDA. Her mouth opened to tell him how much she loved him.
“Y/N?”
Y/N took a deep breath through her nose. Slowly, she turned to the voice, finding Steve standing behind the couple, surprised to see her. “Hi,” she said cheerfully.
“Wow, you look amazing. I’m glad to see you again,” he nodded, smiling. His eyes moved to the man beside her. Steve observed him - he was tall muscular and a bit scary. He stretched his arm. “I’m Steve Rogers,” he introduced himself.
Logan grabbed his hand, shaking it. “Logan,” he said firmly.
When their hands disconnected, both men turned their eyes on Y/N. “I see you are doing well,” Steve said to Y/N. “It’s been… what, two years?”
“Something like that,” she shrugged. Her eyes moved to Logan. “I’ll quickly go to the bathroom before dinner. I’ll be right back.” Instantly, Logan leaned in and he pressed a kiss to her cheek. Y/N couldn’t believe her boyfriend was affectionate in public. They would leave the PDA behind closed doors. It was sweet.
Y/N walked through the crowd of people, heading to the ladies' room. No one paid her any attention. She registered some celebrities and politicians. Everyone was here for Tonny and Pepper. Y/N opened the door, walked in with a gentle smile and was met with Natasha. The smile was instantly gone. The woman was staring at her reflection in the mirror, fixing her make-up when her eyes landed on Y/N.
Y/N’s eyes widened. Her breath got stuck. As much as she told herself she was ready for this, she wasn’t. “Hi,” she said neutrally and quickly locked herself inside a toilet room.
She heard the entrance door open and closed a few times. Y/N hoped Natasha left. Unfortunately, after she was done and left the toilet, Natasha was leaning against the counter, waiting.
“Hi,” Natasha greeted her, whispering. Her eyes followed Y/N’s every moment. “H-how have you been?”
Y/N sighed. She started to wash her hands. “Do we have to talk?” she asked emotionless.
“Yes, we do. I haven’t seen you in two years. I missed you,” said Natasha.
“You are kidding, right?” Y/N glared at her through the mirror. “How can you say this after what happened? How can you stand there and say those words when you had a thing with my then-boyfriend?” She turned off the water and wiped her hands with paper towels. “I promised myself I would enjoy this evening, celebrate Tony’s engagement and then leave. I guess things never turn out how we want.”
After she was done, Y/N left the bathroom. She was visibly upset. All she wanted was to hide in Logan’s arms, have a meal and leave. How could she believe she’d be able to come here? Why was she still this hurt when she had a wonderful man by her side? Did she…? No. The only thing left was the hurt. Her heart belonged to Logan now. She loved him more than she ever loved anyone.
“Y/N,” Natasha followed her out. “Please, let’s talk. You need to listen to me.”
“I don’t have to do shit, Romanoff.” Fate wasn’t kind to Y/N. When she walked outside, she was met with the one person she hoped to avoid the most. “You’ve got to be shitting me,” she cursed.
Bucky stood before her in a tux. His hair was short, face shaved and smooth. Those blue eyes were wide open as he stared at his ex-girlfriend all dressed up. “Oh my god,” he gasped. “Y/N, you are here.”
“Obviously,” she sighed. “I am Tony’s good friend,” she said. She wanted to walk away from the. Unfortunately, he gently grabbed her by her forearm, stopping her. “Let me go, Barnes.”
“Please, we need to talk. Only for a minute.”
Y/N yanked her arm out of his grip. “There is nothing to talk about. I don’t want to talk to any of you,” her eyes went from him to Natasha and back.
“Yes, there is,” he frowned. “You left without a word.”
She frowned at him. “So? You slept with my best friend behind my back. You cheated on me and didn’t have the balls to be honest with me.” Y/N fixed her dress and straightened her back. “I found you two making out in the damn kitchen. So, no, there is nothing to talk about. I came here to celebrate Tony and Pepper.”
Natasha sighed, upset about it all. Bucky shook his head. “You left, Y/N. For fuck’s sake you left without a word,” he raised his voice.
“That’s all you care about?” she asked. “Barnes, you broke my heart. Do you think I’d stay here after what happened? Do you think I’d be happy to see you two together? Wake up. Both of you.” Y/N turned to Natasha, to see her upset face.
A hand appeared on her shoulder, stroking it gently. Y/N released a deep breath she didn’t know she was holding and calmed down. She smelled Logan’s cologne he used for tonight. “You okay, baby?” he asked, eyes shooting daggers at the supersoldier and the spy.
Y/N strengthened her back. “Logan, meet James Barnes and Natasha Romanoff,” she introduced them. She didn’t need to define who they were and what they did to her. Logan already knew. “They don’t seem to understand that I don’t want to talk to them.”
Logan chuckled. “He seems like a guy who doesn’t understand a lot of things,” his eyes darkened. He was not fond of the man standing before him.
“Excuse me?” Bucky frowned.
“Oh, get a life, bub,” Logan scoffed. “The lady said she doesn’t want to talk to ya. So I suggest you leave her the fuck alone.”
With that, Logan grabbed her hand and walked with her away from the pair. He pulled her hand to his lips, kissing its top. “You okay, sweetheart?”
She nodded. “You know what? Let’s have some food, you know, do a little damage and then leave. I want to be alone with you tonight, sir. We have a hotel room that Tony provided us,” she winked at him.
“That dress needs to go as soon as possible,” Logan purred to her ear. “One hour and then we are gone, princess.”

Dacre Montgomery is ready to work
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s a famous audition tape of Dacre Montgomery’s online. Maybe you’ve seen it; some 18 million people have. And it’s captivating to watch, not just because of Montgomery’s intensity, but because of the clear control that he has at such a young age. That steady ferocity cuts right through the screen, even though he’s just ‘running lines’ against a plain blue backdrop. It also cut through the sea of other actors gunning for a role in Stranger Things and made him Billy Hargrove, the resident bad guy on the sci-fi drama that broke Netflix viewership records on its way to becoming one of the biggest shows in TV history.
It’s been almost six years since that audition made Montgomery a global star, but the man sitting in front of me has lost none of that vigour. Reclining in a side room at a studio in Sydney before the photoshoot accompanying this article, the now 28-year-old looks casual. He’s wearing a plain black T-shirt, white shorts and one of those non-descript navy caps movie stars wear when they want to be incognito. The outfit is a simple one, designed to avoid attention—a far cry from the red carpet fashion that Montgomery favours. But as he starts talking about the thing he loves most—movies and the process of making them—that same intensity takes over; a passion that has him on the edge of his seat.
“When I was in my early teens, all I did was stay in my room and watch movies. And I fell in love with everything,” he says. The reverence, the obsession, is what drives Montgomery, and not just when it comes to acting. On set for today’s shoot, Montgomery—who was recently named the face of Politix’s new autumn/winter “The Gentle Man” campaign—is completely locked in. Unlike some who see an ambassador role as an opportunity to make a quick buck, Montgomery has signed on because he’s excited about the brand’s refreshed look and new chapter. “I don't just rock up on time. I rock up 10 minutes early,” he told me, “I don't just give one idea, I give 10 ideas because I don't engage with anything unless I'm authentically interested in it.”
Tumblr media
He’s not kidding. After each burst of shots, he pores over them like he’s the creative director, rather than the subject—not out of vanity, but to see if the images are challenging enough. At one point, he grabs a mirror from the corner of the room. “Let’s just try it”, he tells the crew, and proceeds to work it straight into the shoot.
This dedication to perfection hasn’t always been easy for him or the people around him. After Stranger Things, the search for the next perfect role was almost paralysing. “Before I felt like, ‘look, I'm not going to take anything unless I'm 150 per cent invested’,” he says, and eventually, that attitude led to Montgomery parting ways with his team—his management, agents, everyone.
During that period, which he describes as a creative hole, Montgomery tried anything and everything. He wrote poetry (which was released as a book by publisher Andrews McMeel under the title DKMH and turned into a spoken word podcast of the same name), made short films, and dedicated himself to learning the arts of cinematography and screenwriting—at some points, he was watching three films a day, “morning, noon, night”, just like he did as a teenager.
Part of the fear that drove him into that lull was the looming presence of being typecast. When there are roles being offered to you left, right and centre, which one is the ‘perfect’ next step to take? This year, he has started climbing out of that hole, engaging more filmmakers as well as taking on roles like the one with Politix. But, there is still a sense of wariness.
For example, as news broke that Hugh Jackman wouldn’t be returning as Wolverine—a decision that he has since reversed—rumours swirled that Montgomery might step into the role. But for him, it’s about the filmmakers rather than any big-name character. “It’s just finding filmmakers that I'm really interested in working with and going from there as opposed to it being like, ‘oh, I've always wantedto play Wolverine or Bane’,” he says, “but also, I’m feeling a little bit of Marvel fatigue. I’m not really interested in it in the same way that I was.”
Montgomery isn’t alone in his ‘Marvel fatigue’, plenty of moviegoers aren’t as interested as they once were—just look at the recent box office figures—but it’s another example of how he’s a film fan first, and an actor second. He can thank his parents for that.
Tumblr media
“My dad started taking me to films that I shouldn't have been seeing when I was a kid,” Montgomery says, “but he worked in the film industry and he would explain to me the process of everything.” From the very beginning, he was exposed to not just the definitive films of the time, but also how they were made. His mother and father would take him to the sets they were working on and show him the ins and outs. “It was like, ‘here’s the unadulterated version of the world and the industry and here are all the ins and the outs of how movies are made.”
For some actors, fame, as much as the films that inspire them, is a driver. And it’s only if they reach a level of success that they really see how the sausage is made—which is not always pretty, especially if they aren’t backed by a huge studio. Thanks to his parents, Montgomery is a rare actor who has always known about the gritty reality of making low-budget films—the long days, the repetition, the egos—but that’s what he fell in love with. “I'm not here for money or notoriety or anything like that,” he says, “I really care about the work and that's what I'm there for.”
But it’s that moment when he actually steps in front of the camera and it’s time to perform that has always had Montgomery hooked. “When you’re on set, I don't try to take up too much space and I wait until it’s my time to go in front of the camera and do my little thing. But when I do that… It's ecstasy. There’s nothing but that moment, do you know what I mean?”
Though it’s been a few years since Montgomery has had those moments and shared them with the world—Elvis, in which he was a scene-stealer, was largely filmed in 2020—he’s getting back to work. “I am climbing out of that [hole] and what that looks like is me engaging with more filmmakers,” he says. Of the three filmmakers he has agreed to work with—at least publicly—one thing is clear: they aren’t interested in making simple, sugar-coated work.
Tumblr media
The first film we are likely to see in Montgomery’s next chapter is Spider & Jesse, directed by Dan Kay, which dives into the far-reaching consequences of addiction. “It’s about two girls that find their mother dead in the first scene and they bury her in the backyard so they don't have to go into the foster care system,” Montgomery explains, “I play the mum’s ex-boyfriend that was dealing her the drugs.”
It’s an unglamorous role with limited screen time, but that didn’t bother Montgomery because it was clear the film, and the people behind it, had something vital to say. “I realised they were on a mission to give insight into the people that are affected by addiction—family, friends, and people they're associated with rather than shedding light on the addicts themselves.”
Filming on Spider & Jesse, which took place in Florida, has already wrapped, but Montgomery’s other two projects are yet to begin production. Both are ambitious, and both defy simple explanation. The first, titled Went Up That Hill, comes from Samuel Van Grinsven, a New Zealand-born, Sydney-based director who became a festival circuit favourite with his feature debut Sequin in a Blue Room.
In essence, Montgomery says the film is an assessment of abuse and how trauma lingers from our childhoods. Beyond the message of the film though, it’s the challenging acting work—he’s heading to Berlin to work with co-star Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread, Old), Van Grinsven and a movement coach to prepare for the complex role—that has attracted him.
Tumblr media
The same goes for Faces of Death, the other project Montgomery has been linked to, which is a remake of a 1978 American mondo horror film notoriously banned for years in countries across the world, including Australia, due to its graphic depictions of death. “I have a really interesting co-star [Euphoria’s Barbie Ferreira] who I love, and the character is a serial killer, and for me, it was like, ‘what’s the thing that’s going to scare me so much about creating this character?’” he says of the film, “So I rang the director and I was like, ‘I want to go visit a serial killer in a state penitentiary in the state of California when I'm back because it scares the shit out of me’.”
After these films wrap up, Montgomery plans to start his journey into directing. “I want to direct my first movie and right now I'm in the process of working on the script with my writer and then I'm going to go on the process of trying to put the movie together,” he says, and he won’t give much more than that away, but if there’s anything we’d wager on, it’s that the movie will be challenging—both to make and in concept.
If these types of films don’t sound like they’ll be box office smashes or Oscar bait, Montgomery isn’t worried. “To me, the success of the movie is in the making of the movie,” he says. “And the outcome of the movie looks like a cathartic experience making [it], as opposed to some other thing like, ‘Oh, I want to get into this film festival and I want the film to have a 4.0 on Letterboxd.’ That's not what I'm doing it for.”
Tumblr media
The same attitude goes for his partnership with Politix. Beyond filmmaking, Montgomery is passionate about the way that fashion allows him to control his direct experience. “I suffer from incredibly bad OCD,” he shares, “And I have always found comfort in controlling my surroundings, and that is fabric. My mood is very affected by what I have on my skin and what I have in my space and what I can smell and all that sort of stuff bleeds into my personal life aside from fashion.”
As with his project selection in cinema, the aesthetics are one thing, but for Montgomery to come on board he has to believe in the direction of the project.
“I'm interested in [Politix’s] reworking of the company and what they’re doing to reshape it for 2023 and onwards. But what I was genuinely interested in is that sensitivity of masculinity because that really is me. I am a very sensitive person. I'm very sensitive to my space and to interactions in my life. And I think this whole campaign is really about unpacking what is that.”
Tumblr media
Once Montgomery signed on with Politix to become its new face, as with his films, he was all in. From the campaign direction to the execution of the advertising, Montgomery has been instrumental. He’s not just arriving, taking some photos and leaving—as with the photoshoot accompanying this shoot, he’s trying to make it the best he can.
“I want the product to be good, just as good as they want the product to be and not hopefully from a narcissistic point of view, from a point of view of I want it to be good,” he says, “That's more important to me than the paycheck or how many people see it or how successful the campaign is. That's the through line for me.”
It’s this sheer dedication to craft and passion for the work that has seen Montgomery through to where he is today. It’s what made that Stranger Things audition tape so arresting and, if he pulls off his big swings, may just make him one of the most memorable actors Australia has produced. Whether those ambitious punches land or not, there’s no doubt about one thing: Montgomery is ready to do the work.

The Guide counts, “1, 2, 3… Ah, fuck. 1, 2, 3… Where are you, you son of a…“ with every count, there is a corresponding tap. 1b. Shot from outside a door labeled “boiler” in brass, with a paper sign tacked over it that says “Guide’s room”. The door is open, and inside we can see a plain concrete room with a wooden coffin sitting upright in one corner and the Guide kneeling on the floor fiddling with something out of sight. She continues, “Come on, I know it was in August… Maybe I should get a new filing cabinet for non-paper personal items that need to be found quickly! 1, 2, 3…” 1c. Close up on the Guide sitting in front of the open drawer of a filing cabinet as she lifts up a record with both hands and triumphantly exclaims “Ah-ha!” The record cover is labeled “taxes 1972” but this is crossed out. Other items filed in the drawer between Manila dividers include candles, some brightly colored plastic items, and what could be a dildo. Behind her in the room are an electric water heater and a poster from the film Van Helsing starring Hugh Jackman.
2a. Close up on the Guide smiling as she places the record on an old fashioned phonograph with a horn and taps the spindle thrice before she places it. 2b. Zoom out, the Guide plops down to the floor in a lotus position and closes her eyes as the record begins spinning and making sounds. 2c. Close up on the phonograph horn as a scratchy-looking speech bubble erupts from within, featuring a stoic-looking Laszlo with horn-rimmed glasses. He says, “Welcome to Dr. Cravensworth’s Self-Hypnosis for Easy Recall, side A. 2d. The record’s dialogue continues over an aerial shot of the Guide concentrating in her lotus pose, fingers pinches together at her knees, “Where we seek to remind all our patients, ‘don’t forget…to remember.’ Now…you are walking through the corridor of your mind…” The white Dias the Guide appears to be sitting on begins to splinter off, overlapping squares of glitching black swirling around the back and breaking off into chunks to reassemble as a curved gray hallway beneath her, lined on each side with closed doors. The lines are glitching and shaky, as if struggling to keep their form. Walking down the corridor is a second Guide, seen from above, hair down and glove-free, wearing a pitch black off the shoulder dress with a long train and sleeves. /end ID

Imagine if in Deadpool 3 instead of actually having Hugh Jackman as Wolverine they use an action figure of Wolverine instead. Except when its an action shot where they would usually use a stunt double its actually Hugh Jackman as the "stunt double" and then it goes back to the tiny figurine and NO ONE mentions it, not even Deadpool himself.
I want an entire movie of everyone just acting like this tiny action figure is the actual Wolverine, he has no voice lines by the way, everyone just reacts to what he would have said instead.

The Spaghetti Western is probably one of the more definitive crossovers of noir themes into the Western. We were done idealizing how the west was won, and could therefore hire italian men to write cowboys who hadn't taken a bath as the morally gray heroes of this ADR Sicilian paradise as they shot first with no moral justification and won the afffections of love interests wearing anachronistic eye makeup.
Since then we've solidified the western noir genre up to and including No Country For Old Men enough that Taylor Sheridan has built his career on doing just the one genre, like a Wes Anderson of paramount streaming shows targeted at leather recliner dads. This said, the grit of the spaghetti western lives on in non-western noir genres, including the 2000s explosion of Australian Cowboy movies, which includes our film of the week, The Proposition.
Obviously Aussie Cowboys were a thing before the 2000s (Man from Snowy River, most notably) but there was a short spurt of really good ones in the 2000s that I frankly do not have enough cultural knowledge of what Australia was going through then to understand the "why" behind. Maybe it was Hugh Jackman's fault. In any case, The Proposition came out of it.
The titular The Proposition in the movie is simple: the main character (played by the ever so babygirl Guy Pierce) is the middle child in a gang of three outlaws told to find and kill his older outlaw brother or else they will kill his younger brother. This takes us on a brooding journey through the Australian wilderness as we witness atrocities against native populations and the conflict between civilization and the rot within men's souls. If this isn't a proper western I don't know what this is.
The rot really does consume with this movie. It's a thoughtful exploration of savagery and civilization. It's a movie full of flies. It makes you want to brush your teeth once you finish it. It ends with profound violence that makes you sit back and ponder things.
Watch it, it's a movie that doesn't need to give you answers to the understated yet weighty questions it poses. Also Guy Pierce gets Guy Pierced.

pairings — logan (james) howlett x fem!mutant!reader, featuring bff!rogue x bff!fem!mutant!reader
summary — in which, there was always something there, but after unexpected circumstances, something changes.
word count — 8.5k.
warnings — ANGST, fluff, reader and logan having a BIT of an age-gap because i’m a sl*t for him and i wanted to write the reader’s age similar to mine (i know, i know, i sound like a psycho), use of pet-names [sweetheart, babydoll, kid], this is in the timeline from before the logan movie, just like logan, the reader has her own fair share of trauma, mentions of reader having serious mental health issues and HUGE anger issues, mentions of abusive relationship with parents, mentions of reader having a teeny, tiny bit of a crush on and having romantic feelings for logan in the past AND the present, mentions of reader taking some lives due to her out of control powers in the beginning of finding out that she was a mutant, mutual pining but also both reader and logan having denial phases and both refusing to accept that there’s something more to their relationship, rogue kind of being unfair to reader, but really just acting out of concern for her friend (she makes up for it in the end, i promise), KIDNAPPING (by victor of course, because why not), protective!logan, plenty of confessions, forehead touches, kisses, also brief mentions of reader’s powers, logan calling reader hot (yes, i think this is a warning), rogue playing cupid/match-maker.
note — Y’ALL... so, i just started to rewatch all of the x-men movies recently (in order of course!) but my love and obsession that i once had for logan and hugh when i was younger is back. and i thought, what better way to get through that is, not only fake scenarios every night because logan is a very fine-ass character and literally is the loml, but ALSO, maybe make a fic to get most of my thoughts and etc., of him out! anyways, i hope this one is enjoyable. gif and divider creds to owner!
p.s., feedback is very much appreciated and encouraged <3.

SHE HAD OTHER THINGS TO deal with, rather than ogle the extremely attractive older man that arrived at the school a long while back.
she wanted to, because… come on! that man has no right being so handsome.
but, she wouldn’t — she couldn’t.
she couldn’t deal with anything other than trying to keep herself in complete control and trying to help others, despite all of the pain she’s caused.
“[y/n]? is everything alright?” a familiar voice speaks up in confusion and concern in the darkness of the room, completely snapping the young woman out of her thoughts.
she snaps her head up in surprise, inhaling in relief that it’s just her younger friend — and not the brooding man who seems to always be studying and watching her closely.
“rogue, hey,” she murmurs in greeting, before getting up to walk over to the freezer, searching for her usual tub of ice cream.
after grabbing a spoon, and she moves to sit down on one of the stools, [y/n] shrugs as she lifts the lid off.
swirling her spoon around, before getting herself a spoonful of ice cream and shoveling the first bite into her mouth, she finally gives the girl stood in front of her an answer, “i’m fine. i promise.”
she sighs, not believing her for even a second.
“you sure?”
[y/n] stares down at her spoon for a second, before deciding to stick it inside of the tub of ice cream, so that it’s standing on it’s own, before glancing up.
“yes. i’m fine — like always.”
then, it’s a shock to both girls when heavy footsteps become noticeable, until the famous wolverine is grumpily walking over to the fridge to grab something to drink.
thank god for the secret stash of beer he hid in there prior to when he’d first arrived at the mansion.
“hey, logan. can’t sleep?” rogue asks the man with a tired smile placed on her lips.
he grunts in acknowledgement as the other girl shrinks into herself and becomes too quiet.
both rogue and logan notice this immediately.
with a sigh, [y/n] goes to dig further into her ice cream, in order to ignore looking up at her friend and the older man.
“really, [y/n]?”
“w—what?” she stutters, mouth now full of a scoop of ice cream, beginning to finally look up.
she quickly becomes confused as rogue wears an annoyed expression.
as he notices the tension growing between the two girls, logan can’t help finding his stomach tied in knots at the adorably confused look on [y/n]’s face.
then, he shakes his head, trying to rid himself of those thoughts and forcefully focuses on drinking his beer.
“i know you’re hurting. why won’t you just admit it?”
irritation burns beneath [y/n]’s tough-guarded walls, but she doesn’t show it.
she just frowns, before speaking in noticeably irritated tone of voice. “i’m fine. why won’t you accept that?”
rogue rolls her eyes.
“because i know — everyone knows — the truth. and i won’t sit here and watch my friend destroy herself!” she exclaims in pure irritation.
logan, who just wanted to relax for a bit before trying to get back to bed, stands awkwardly, fully not expecting the conversation to get so tense.
but, as he sees the hurt look in [y/n]’s eyes, he sighs.
“kid, why don’t you calm down a bit? getting upset with each other isn’t going to fix this situation.”
he steps towards rogue, placing a light hand over her covered shoulder, trying to get her to calm down.
but, she only angrily shrugs off his hand and takes one more look at her friend frustratedly. “don’t come crying to me when you lose everyone. again.”
then, she storms off.
as she watches her friend walk away from her, [y/n] takes in a deep breath, trying to ignore the blurring tears that begin to cloud up in her eyes.
with another sharp breath, she ignores the stare of logan as she frowns.
she knows that she doesn’t actually want to lose anyone else, even if she is pushing everyone away.
but, what else can she do? she’s just too dangerous, and she knows deep down that she doesn’t deserve anyone’s love or worry.
biting down on her bottom lip once again, she places her spoon down beside her tub of ice cream on the table.
then, she rapidly blinks away the tears, the best that she can, before grabbing the lid and placing it back on the top, and walking over to the freezer to put it back inside.
then, as she walks over to the sink with her spoon in hand, she’s completely aware of logan’s eyes on her, watching her every move, while she rinses the spoon off, before setting it down in the sink.
she places her hands against the counter as she leans against it, the newly fresh tears appearing again.
suddenly, it becomes hard to breathe as she tries to ask herself if pushing everyone away really is the answer.
but, she knows that she doesn’t see any other way.
“you know… she’s right.” logan states, crossing his arms over his bare chest.
hearing this, she sighs in irritation.
“and why… do you say that, logan?” she asks tightly, trying to keep the frustration out of her voice as much as possible.
she still stays leaning against the counter, back facing him.
“she shouldn’t have said it like... that, but she’s right. if you keep pushing everyone you care about away, you’re going to lose them. and then, you won’t have anyone left — you’ll be completely alone.”
with a frustrated sigh, [y/n] finally turns around. “did you ever stop to think that maybe, just maybe, that’s the whole damn point?”
logan raises a brow at her, becoming shocked by her answer.
“and why is that?”
she groans, rolling her eyes, before raising her hands up in the air in complete and utter frustration. “maybe… because i don’t deserve for people to still care, okay?”
her voice finally wavers in emotion, making it all too obvious of how much she’s been hurting — how she’s really just a good actor when it comes to hiding her feelings.
he sighs, waiting for her to continue on.
“you want to know why i’m like this? why i insist on being alone? it’s because i’ve hurt people — i’ve even killed people before. so, don’t stand there and ask me why i do this, like it’s the strangest thing in the world. because we both know that you understand how it feels to have hurt people and not want to get more people close to you because they could get hurt.” she exclaims, rolling her eyes when his eyebrows furrow together in confusion.
“that was because you didn’t have control over your powers, back then. that’s not your fault, you know.” he states, stepping forward after realizing how hurt the young woman really is.
“yes, it was! logan, you don’t get it! no one does. i didn’t just lose control of my powers! i snapped, okay? the things i heard being said to and about me, and the things people did to me, it made me so angry. i felt full of hatred. and… i could feel it all so intensely — i could feel the darkness taking over. i wasn’t that same happy girl i once was — i was evil. and i still am.” she exclaims again, not really caring who hears the conversation anymore.
i mean, everyone is — except for logan and rogue, and the professors, of course — already terrified of her. and rightfully so.
so, it’s not like she needs to worry about anyone finding out the truth, because everyone already knows it all.
or, at least that’s what she thinks.
logan sighs, going to walk over to her to comfort her, but she flinches, before backing away.
“n—no. please. don’t touch me. everyone just needs to stop treating me like i’m the innocent victim. because i’m not. okay?”
tears fill her eyes, once more, as logan freezes in his place, an overwhelming amount of worry over the young woman completely consuming him.
he doesn’t ever want to admit it, but ever since he met her, he’s grown very protective of her.
then, she brushes past him, the feeling of not being able to breathe becoming more intense and hard to ignore.
it looks like that night will be another sleepless night filled with not only a wild panic attack, but also, nightmares.
as he watches her rush off in the direction of her room, logan sighs.
she’s right.
he knows exactly what it feels like.
but, seeing that it’s hurting her — and rogue — to do it, makes him see it in a different way.
—————
THE NEXT FEW WEEKS ARE miserable for [y/n].
she makes a point to avoid both rogue and logan.
what she doesn’t understand though, is why logan had seemed so concerned for her well-being.
even though, that conversation got a little too personal and intense for the both of them, it’s not like either of them are even that close.
so… why did he care so much?
even if she is curious about it, she’s not going to risk another conversation with him, just because she wants answers.
it’s not worth it. right?
but, one thing she does know, is that both rogue and logan were right — she finally is all alone.
and now? she doesn’t know what to do with that information. what can she do with that?
it’s not like she actually wants to be alone — it’s just how she acts and perceives herself as.
and it’s mostly because she knows she has to protect everyone from herself. especially, when she feels so damn dangerous.
walking through the halls one morning, still in the process of ignoring and avoiding her only friend and the older man that she always seemed to secretly like, she keeps her head ducked down.
then, something — or rather, someone — crashes into her side.
it causes her to lose her balance and for all of her carefully organized things to tumble out of her arms.
the sound of the crash catches everyone’s attention — this much, [y/n] realizes. considering, she’d been walking through the main room — the living room — of the x-mansion.
even a few teachers look over in concern at the sudden noise.
rogue is hanging out with bobby when she hears the crash.
even as she sees her friend bending down to nervously and shakily grab her things, she can’t help feeling guilty for how she’d treated her that night, and how she’d left her so easily.
but, that guilt and regret soon morphs into worry in only seconds when she realizes who had purposely rammed their body into [y/n]’s.
as she moves to stand back up, her things safely tucked into her arms and pressed against her chest, [y/n] opens her mouth to let out repetitive apologies for her clumsiness.
but, as she sees who it is that had ran into her, she gapes as ashamed tears begin to cloud her eyes. “m—mom? w—what… what are you doing here?”
the woman stood before her glares at her.
“i came here to see if there’s anyone else you’ve hurt along the way. other than your father, of course.” there’s no worry or concern in her tone of voice, though, whatsoever.
[y/n] gulps nervously, trying to ignore her mother’s hurtful words — being insulted or aggravated always leads to her losing control of her powers and her anger.
once she sees the way the woman is making her best friend hurt so badly in a matter of seconds, rogue begins to step forward.
but, her boyfriend seems to understand what she’s about to do, and grabs her arm.
“wait. maybe you shouldn’t get involved.”
rogue stares at bobby in complete and utter disbelief.
“are you serious, right now? bobby, she’s my best friend. i can’t just sit by and watch as her mother digs her stupid little comments at her.” she tells him, not being able to help feeling so offended that her boyfriend is asking her to stay out of it.
with a sigh, bobby defeatedly lets go of her arm.
he watches nervously as rogue walks over to stand beside her friend.
“no offense, ms. [y/m/n], but you need to leave. you’re not welcome here, and you have no right to walk in here and try to hurt one of this school’s best mutants.” she spits the words out venomously, shocking [y/n].
“rogue—” [y/n] starts to say, worried that her saying something like that to her mother might make things worse, even if she does appreciate her defending her.
“no. this whole situation has gone way too far. you don’t deserve to be treated like this, and i am sick and tired of her treating you like you did something wrong!”
“please, rogue—”
“no! i know you think you did something wrong and that you’re damaged. but, you’re not. you did everything you could to protect everyone and you still are. and the people you’ve hurt? that’s not on you — you couldn’t control your powers and it’s about time that you realize that and accept it.” rogue finishes saying, turning to face her friend.
[y/n] senses the tears beginning to cloud her eyes, but this time — unlike any other time — she doesn’t bother trying to hide them.
then, rogue turns back to face her friend’s cruel mother, a stony look in her eyes. “and it’s about time that she gets that, too. because this whole ‘marching in the school to humiliate and torture you’ thing isn’t happening. ever again. at least, not when i’m around.”
for a moment, [y/n] forgets about her mother completely; she just stares at her friend in surprise and awe.
a gentle smile makes its way to her lips.
all she knows now, is that she has an amazingly loyal friend — the best friend she’s ever had.
“t—thank you, rogue. for… saying that.”
the two girls share the same platonically caring look, before remembering of [y/n]’s mother’s annoying presence standing in front of them.
“you two make me sick. the fact that you don’t see that she will destroy you and everything you’ve ever loved is embarrassing.”
before she can say anything else, or for [y/n] to fully react to her mother’s angry words, logan, who’d been standing with the other teachers, steps forward with a hard look placed on his face.
“alright, that’s enough. you’re not welcome here — you need to leave. now.”
[y/m/n] scoffs in disbelief and disgust.
“you are all fools!” she yells, before she begins to walk towards the entrance doors to the school.
[y/n] sighs in relief as soon as her mother’s back is facing her.
she turns to both logan and rogue with an expression full of appreciation.
“t—thank you — both of you.” she barely even says it with more than a whisper and almost struggles to even get the words out — she still feels guilty for the way she’d treated the both of them.
rogue nods and smiles, placing her hand over her friend’s shoulder to show her response, while logan simply nods in acknowledgement.
but, the three of them had celebrated a little bit too soon.
because, in only a few moments, her mother turns back to face her with that same disgusted expression placed on her face.
“you know… they might accept you now. but, eventually, they will turn on you and then, you’ll have no one left on your side,” she begins to say, finding satisfaction in the hurt look that takes over her daughter’s face.
“when that happens, i won’t be there to comfort you — you’ll be utterly and completely alone and miserable.”
she smirks when [y/n]’s breath catches in her throat and she finally allows the tears to fall.
then, she breathes heavily, before sharply turning around and running in the direction of her room.
with an annoyed sigh, rogue turns to the spiteful woman standing at the door.
“you just have to make everyone else miserable, too, huh?” after spitting out those words, she races off in the direction of where her friend had rushed off in.
logan clenches his jaw as he glares angrily at [y/n]’s mother.
he had known that her mother wasn’t exactly supportive of the start of her mutation — everyone knows that part — but it seems, he underestimated the situation.
because… no wonder [y/n]’s always been so hard on herself.
because when the people who are supposed to always love you unconditionally, no matter what, don’t believe in you anymore, it’s hard to not hate yourself, like they do.
that’s why she’s so hard on herself and believes that there’s something wrong with her — why she believes that she’s evil.
because of this woman.
she had ruined her daughter’s potential to believe in herself and to lead a happy life, where she isn’t being held back by her past mistakes.
“you got a lot of fuckin’ nerve, you know that? what kind of person finds it enjoyable to torture their child?” he questions, not being able to help feeling so protective of the young girl.
[y/m/n] scoffs again.
“once again, i have to say this. you. are. a. fool,” she annoyedly states, stepping closer to him. “that girl… is not my daughter — not anymore. she is only a monster. and the fact that all of you keep coddling her, proves my point of you all being fools to trust her. she’ll turn on you, just like she did with my family and the countless others that died in what you guys like to refer to as ‘the accident’.”
his jaw ticks, once more, realizing where the terrible, negative mindset of [y/n]’s really came from.
“you have no idea what you’ve done to her, do you?” he tensely asks in a harsh tone of voice as he steps closer to her, all the while trying to keep his emotions and frustrations in check.
the woman simply crosses her arms over her chest, seriously not understanding how so many people are willing to defend her daughter for so long, with no hesitation.
she raises a brow in question, further irritating the hell out of logan.
“do you not realize that you are the exact reason that she hates herself so much? why she refuses to let anyone in, or to allow herself to be happy for just one second? you blame her for what happened, but you should be blaming yourself for it.”
she scowls, before speaking tightly, “and why should i blame myself when it is her fault that my husband and innocent people are dead?”
“you know why? none of that shit would’ve happened, if you and your family actually took some time to show your daughter that she was loved. maybe, if you had accepted her and showed her that there was nothing wrong with her, maybe, just maybe, those people would still be alive, and maybe, your daughter wouldn’t have lost control and wouldn’t have begun to hate herself. all of that isn’t on her. it’s on you.” he spits out angrily, almost losing his cool.
she rolls her eyes, but logan doesn’t care if his words hurt her.
in his head, she deserves to be hurt in the way that she had hurt her daughter. maybe, even more.
“and stop calling her a monster. because she’s not — she’s far from it. if you actually tried to understand her and get to know her as she is now, you’d know that she’s a good person with a compassionate heart — someone who’s only trying to make up for her wrongs and make people feel safe with her,” he backs away, feeling content with saying what he truly feels deep inside his heart. “but, you won’t. because you refuse to see her as the hero she is.”
with seeing that his words have gotten to her, he watches smugly as she angrily walks out the door and out of the mansion.
—————
SHE REFUSES TO LEAVE HER room for a week after that.
she just couldn’t bear to face anyone after her mother had practically stormed in and humiliated her in front of the entire school.
though, the fact that it was logan and rogue, too — that had also witnessed it — is the real reason she hadn’t wanted to face anyone.
rogue is her best friend and she already always feels like a handful. she didn’t want her to feel overwhelmed with her overbearing issues.
and logan? well, she could never admit it, but she’s always liked him.
even if there’s a big age gap between the two of them — him being like a hundred years old, and her only being nineteen — she has always feared that he doesn’t think of her like that or that he has a problem with how far apart their ages are.
but, most of all, she has just always wanted to try to seem tough and strong around him.
so, being insulted in front of him like that — by her own mother? she obviously took that really hard.
and most of all, she just feels too embarrassed to face him.
rogue had tried countless times to get her friend to let her in.
but, to no avail, she wouldn’t open the door — no matter how many times her friend had begged her to.
though, logan didn’t bother trying to get her to let him in to check in on her, because he wanted to give her some space, and also, because he knew that she wouldn’t want to talk to anyone for a while.
but, she had to come out for food, eventually.
everyone just needed to be patient.
and eventually, she does.
once she knows that the coast is clear and everyone has to be in their classes, [y/n] carefully and quietly races into the kitchen to grab her ice cream and a spoon.
then, she successfully gets to the spacious field of the school, slowly sitting down on the freshly cut grass.
for a few minutes, it’s peaceful as she eats some spoonfuls of her ice cream.
something about being outside — out in the nature and the calm, breezy air — always makes her feel safe and comforted.
“you just couldn’t resist the nice weather, huh, kid?” an amused, but familiar voice interrupts her moment from behind her.
she briefly jumps in surprise, before snapping her head over to see that it’s only logan standing behind her.
he chuckles at her startled expression and actions. “sorry, kid. didn’t mean to scare you.”
rather than talk about the real reason he had followed her outside, she sighs, before grumbling, “i’m not a kid anymore.”
he laughs once more.
although, this laugh leaves her speechless. it’s one of his laughs that’s extremely rare, but in the end, you know it’s genuine from how infectious it is — it’s the type of laugh that also makes you want to laugh with him.
“hey, i know that. trust me, i know you’re not a kid anymore.” he mumbles, after finally being able to stop laughing at her in amusement.
for a moment, he looks her up and done, before his gaze quickly forms into an expression of worry and concern.
“how you doing?” he asks in a soft and gentle voice, hoping that she doesn’t shut him out this time.
but, the two of them being out in the nice weather, proves to be just the thing that eases her into opening up.
despite feeling scared of being vulnerable with him, she feels safe with him.
so, she just lets it come out in waves. “mostly… i’m just hurt and embarrassed. all the things my mother said... i’ve already heard and thought it myself. but, i just hate that she said all of that in front of the whole school — everyone already hates me and fears me.”
he doesn’t say anything. he simply just looks at her in confusion.
how could she think that everyone hates and fears her, when that’s just not true?
“you know that’s not true.”
she snaps her head up and looks over at him in confusion — and even a little bit of frustration.
“are you serious right now?”
he wordlessly nods, raising a brow as if it’s that obvious.
[y/n] scoffs.
“logan, i don’t know where you got the idea that they like me. because they don’t. you just don’t see the wary and cautious looks in their eyes when i’m around. or how they’re always watching me and prepared to run off if i snap. trust me, i know fear when i see it.”
now, it’s his turn to be in disbelief and irritation. “sweetheart, you have no idea how much they admire you. do you?”
“what? n—no. no, they don’t… they… hate me.” she mumbles, refusing to believe anything other than that she’s feared by every single person in the world.
he sighs in frustration, once again.
“they don’t hate you,” he states as she finally looks over at him, still confused, but waits for him to explain what he means by that.
“yes, you did some things that you’re obviously not proud of and you’re trying to be better because of it — they see that. but, that doesn’t mean they dislike you or fear you. they’re very fond of you — a lot more than you think.”
her breath hitches in her throat as his honest expression begins to overwhelm her — she can’t tell if he’s actually telling the truth or not.
still not being able to tell, [y/n] sighs, already completely forgetting about her ice cream that is melting by every passing minute.
it’s silent for a few minutes.
then, a curious question pops up into her head, causing her to turn to face him with curiosity etched onto her face.
“logan?”
“yeah?” comes his gruff response — something completely normal coming from him.
“how… how were you able to resist the temptation to push everyone away? after all of the things you went through — and did?” she asks, now turning back to look at the sky, before she moves her knees up to her chest and holds them tightly to her chest.
she can’t face him as she asks this question, knowing how much his past still haunts him.
you’d think that he’d get mad at her for asking such a deeply personal question, or not even give her an honest answer.
but, something about her makes him feel comfortable around her — comfortable enough to open up. something that he’s never felt around anyone else before.
he knows that deep down, she needs his advice.
especially, when they both have had similar experiences in their pasts.
so, he doesn’t hesitate to give her the answer she needs.
he heaves in a deep breath, trying to put the words together, to the point where it actually makes sense. “it wasn’t easy — if that’s what you think. because it wasn’t.”
she nods, turning to face him now.
her brows furrow together as she waits for him to continue.
“truthfully, it took me a very long time to open up to anyone and actually grow as a person. my past ain’t exactly the most interesting story to be told. my story is gruesome and seriously fucked up — especially the part where i hurt people — i hurt a lot of people.”
after hearing the evident pain in his voice, from thinking back on his past, regret immediately fills [y/n].
as he clears his throat, she bites down on her bottom lip nervously, before asking another question, “did it ever go away? the guilt and all of the memories? does it ever get easier to live with?”
he sighs, immediately noticing that talking about all of this is making her more emotional — the unshed tears are proof of that.
“the reminder of it will always be there. you can’t just take those experiences out and they suddenly just don’t exist — that’s not how it works. but, it will get easier and it won’t always be so all-consuming. having people in your life to lean on does help, y’know?”
she groans as she begins to stand up.
“trust me, i’m beginning to learn that.” she mutters it so low that logan almost doesn’t hear her.
he himself stands, too, watching as she picks up the completely melted ice cream from the ground in disappointment and disgust.
“fantastic. now, i’ve wasted an entire tub of ice cream.” she mumbles annoyedly, before walking over to the only trash can that stands outside, near the doors.
he watches her in amusement, once more, chuckling at her sarcastic tone of voice and pouty expression.
hearing his laughs, she turns back to face him with an annoyed glare.
“hey! don’t laugh at me. it’s not funny!” she yells, taking him quite seriously.
once again, he uncontrollably laughs at her, causing her to simply groan.
she rolls her eyes and decides it’s time for her to just leave already.
although, when his laughter finally dies down, she hesitates, before turning back around.
“logan… thank you — for the advice. i think it might help.” she says awkwardly as he nods in both acknowledgement and understanding.
“and… for what it’s worth, i think you’re a good man. i know asking about your past probably brought back a lot of the pain. but, i don’t think your past defines you. i hope you know that you make a bigger difference on me and everyone else — more than you even realize.”
with that, she walks back inside, leaving the older man speechless — for once in his life.
—————
AFTER SOME SERIOUS SELF-REFLECTION, [Y/N] quickly learned that when logan had told her that spending time with the people she loves and cares about helps with dealing with her past and self-loathing hatred towards herself — instead of pushing them away — he meant everyone at the school.
she knew immediately that rogue would — without a doubt — be one of those people that she could lean on.
she is her best friend, after all.
that’s how she ends up in her dorm room with her friend sitting beside her.
a look of both shock and excitement is placed on rogue’s face.
then, she squeals as she lightly smacks her friend on her shoulder.
[y/n] wears a confused expression, before it turns pained as she winces, “ow, ro! don’t smack me so hard… ” she mumbles, trying to soothe the area of her shoulder that had just been brutally smacked.
rogue simply ignores her pain, knowing that she only needs to be concerned if they had a skin-to-skin type of touch situation.
“it’s not my fault you’ve just now decided to tell me about your long-time crush on logan! how could you keep this from me for so long?”
[y/n] had not only let herself vent out all of what she’d been feeling for way too long to her best friend, but she had also admitted to her hidden feelings for the older man, after having told her about the moment they had just a few weeks ago.
[y/n] only scoffs.
“that’s what you're concerned about? my feelings for him?”
rogue gives her a look, acting as if it’s all that too obvious.
“yes! now, tell me why you waited until now to tell me about this thing with logan!”
the young woman sighs in irritation, before answering truthfully, “i didn’t tell you because i know that you guys are close. i mean, he’s practically your father-figure. why in the world would i tell you about my feelings for him? that’s literally like when a girl tells her best friend that she’s in love with her dad! do you know how complicated that makes this situation?”
after a moment, [y/n] finally remembers the last thing her friend had said, “and there is no thing with him! i’m merely just one of the younger adults that lives in this mansion. that’s all.” she mumbles, an edge of her tone filled with sadness.
rogue simply rolls her eyes at her friend.
“it’s not that deep, [y/n]! it would be a different situation if you were underage. but, you’re not. and yes, he’s like a father to me. but, that doesn’t mean that i don’t support this, or that it’s uncomfortable for me,”
“besides, do you even realize how much he cares about you?”
the two girls stare pointedly at each other, as if challenging the other to prove that they aren’t lying.
after another minute of her friend still not answering her, [y/n] sighs in defeat.
she ducks her head down.
“seriously, rogue? i don’t know why you keep going on about this.”
“because you refuse to believe what i’m telling you — which, is the truth!” rogue yells in just a bit of irritation as she throws her hands up in the air in exasperation.
[y/n] groans again.
“no. he... he doesn’t feel that way about me. so, please, just drop it — don’t give me false hope.”
while the girls had been talking about logan and [y/n]’s relationship that’s so obviously filled with an unspoken connection, logan and jean were talking about almost the exact same thing.
“logan, why won’t you just admit that you love her?” jean asks in defeat, after having tried to get him to admit to his feelings for the young woman for almost an hour.
damn if that man isn’t stubborn.
he says nothing for a moment.
she raises her brows at him expectantly, waiting for him to give her an honest answer — something that he doesn’t normally do that much.
“i got no idea what the hell you mean.” is his response.
she sighs, rolling her eyes.
“you can deny it all you want, but everyone knows how you feel,” she states, before she speaks again in a casual tone of voice, “well, everyone except for [y/n].”
she shrugs when he gives her both an irritated and confused expression.
“i don’t have feelings for her — i... i can’t.” he mutters, refusing to admit the truth.
jean sighs, understanding what he means behind that statement.
“you know... no one would judge you two for being together.”
he grunts in disbelief at that.
because truth be told, he doesn’t care about the age gap — maybe, he did before when they had first met and he had developed feelings he couldn’t comprehend.
not anymore, though.
however, he does care about what other people may think of it.
it’s not that he cares about people’s opinions about him.
i mean, come on, it’s logan — he could give a shit less about how people judge or perceive him, especially when he has bigger things to worry about.
but, that doesn’t mean that [y/n] is the same way.
after all that she’s been through, it’s all too obvious that she values what others think of her.
though, little does he know that the one thing she doesn’t care for people knowing or judging her for, is logan and if they could ever truly be together.
jean sighs at this.
before she can say anything else that could possibly change his mind, she sees that look on his face — the one that tells anyone to shut the hell up.
—————
IF SHE HAD KNOWN WHAT she’d get dragged into — all because she’d stepped outside of the mansion for just a few minutes — she would’ve stayed inside the safety of her room.
[y/n] had recently been stressed out about her feelings for logan and how to deal with them — much like logan himself — so badly that she had to go outside for some fresh air.
but, little had she known that there was something — or rather, someone, really — outside, waiting for her.
then, it hadn’t been long before she had a cold hand placed over her mouth to muffle any abrupt sounds as she struggled to breathe under it.
after that, it was only seconds before the famous wolverine was walking outside, a concerned look in his eyes.
he had been searching for [y/n], worried of where she might be, considering she hadn’t been in her room.
but, when his eyes begin to slowly search his surroundings, he eventually catches the scene before him — the woman he cares for, more than anyone else in the entire world, being held by a familiar past enemy of his.
“what—” he begins to step forward, but the man removes his hand from [y/n]’s mouth and grows out his claws to press down harshly against her throat.
“make one move, and i will kill her, right here, with no fucking hesitation — you know i will.”
logan freezes in his place, holding his hands up in the air cautiously.
although he’s being careful to not get [y/n] harmed, it doesn’t keep the dark look from forming on his face at the thought of his brother trying to kill the woman he deeply cares about.
[y/n] notices the look in logan’s eyes, immediately putting it together — he knows this man.
“l—logan? w—who... who is he?” she croaks out, struggling to breathe as the sadistic man’s claws presses harder down on her throat.
as she whimpers in pain, clenching her eyes shut and tears begin to escape down to her cheeks, logan flinches — he hates seeing her in pain.
“victor, let her go. she’s got nothing to do with this. let’s just talk.” he states both cautiously and calmly, trying to keep himself from doing anything that could harm her.
she cries again as victor draws just a little bit of blood from her neck.
logan growls angrily at this, his jaw ticking tensely.
“let her go.”
his brother’s face turns cold and emotionless, before a smirk takes over his lips.
“okay.” he says simply, before slamming the end of his fist into the side of her head.
she lets out a small groan as everything goes dark.
then, she falls to the ground.
“now. let’s talk, brother.”
—————
SHE WAKES UP TO THE voices of which she had heard last before she got knocked out.
“if you touch her again, i will kill you.”
victor chuckles evilly, obviously not caring at all.
“she’s that important to you?”
“yes.” logan answers with no hesitation.
as she begins to stand up as quietly as possible, her vision still a bit blurry, his eyes catches hers.
worry quickly fills his as she bites down on her bottom lip and shakily places her pointer finger to her lips, telling him to be quiet.
“so, you would die for her, then? no hesitation?” victor continues on, drawing his brother’s attention back to him.
he raises an eyebrow. “yes?”
“yes.” logan harshly says, glaring deeply at him in anger.
as [y/n] looks around for something to use against her potential-kidnapper, she notices a broken branch lying on the ground, nearby.
thank god for that.
the good thing about it, is that it’s thick and has a pointed edge to it.
it for sure won’t do any real damage to victor.
but, it will distract him long enough to give logan the chance to get the upper-hand.
although she may be a little concussed, she uses all of her energy to will the thick object to her hands, with just her mind.
and then, she fully stands up and holds the branch tightly in her hands, trying to quiet down the fear of using violence again.
but, with a shake of her head, she breathes deeply as quietly as she can, before she races forward and stabs victor straight in the back with it.
he grunts in surprise.
but then, he growls angrily and turns around.
“victor—“ logan steps forward, seeing the look of complete rage in his eyes.
but, it’s too late.
victor, in a fit of boiling hot rage, pulls her closer to him by clutching her by her throat tightly with his claws drawing more blood and lifting her up into the air, before thrusting his other hand of claws into her stomach.
she gasps in surprise and chokes on both tears and her heavy breaths.
but, she doesn’t think about dying — even with all of the agonizing pain of the claws twisting deep inside of her.
all she thinks about is logan.
her eyes find his from behind his brother.
“l—logan... i... i—i love you... ” she trails off in stutters, needing to tell him the truth, before everything goes dark again.
if she dies, at least she’ll go out with no regrets of not telling him how she feels.
the next time she wakes up, she’s lying in her bed with a bandage placed over her throat and her stomach — both from where victor had hurt her the most.
she groans, slowly opening her eyes with her brows knitted together in both pain and confusion.
as she looks around the room, she notices both rogue and logan sitting inside the room.
logan sits on the edge of the bed, while rogue anxiously leans against the bedroom door.
when they notice she’s awake, logan goes to stand up, just as rogue moves across the room in lightning speed.
“[y/n]! i’m so glad you’re okay. logan and i were so worried about you,” she murmurs, simply placing her gloved-hands over her friend’s hand, not sure of how she can comfort her when she’s in so much pain.
then, she smirks, nodding towards the man in the room.
“well, his worry was a lot more intense and overwhelming than mine.”
logan glares at her, causing her to giggle, before holding her hands up in the air in defeat.
then, she sighs.
“anyways, i have to go back to class. i just wanted to see you when you woke up. and now that i know you’re okay, i can worry a lot less.”
[y/n] nods, grabbing one of her hands and squeezing it. “thank you, ro — for everything. i don’t know what i’d do without a friend like you.”
the sweet compliment goes right over rogue’s head, however. “well, i think you should really be thanking logan, since he’s the one who can’t live without you.” she winks at her friend as she flushes at her words.
logan glares at the girl, once again.
“alright, kid. go on and get outta here already.” he points towards the door, and she takes the hint immediately.
rogue starts walking over to logan.
“you better not screw this up!” she whispers seriously to him, the two of them both sharing a similar look of irritation over each other.
logan scowls at her, pointing to the door, once more.
with a resigned sigh, rogue shrugs and turns back to her friend to give her a little wave. “bye!”
then, she’s at the door and pulling it open, before walking out and shutting it behind her.
logan sighs, raising a brow at [y/n].
“i didn’t think she’d ever leave.” he chuckles awkwardly as she knits her brows together in confusion.
she doesn’t understand what was just going on between him and rogue.
and honestly?
she’s not sure of what to make of it.
seeing that his attempt at a joke doesn’t change the look on her face, he frowns.
“logan... what’s going on?” she asks shakily.
“everything’s fine. he’s gone — victor’s gone.” he promises, going to sit by her on the bed.
a trembling breath leaves her lips as she moves to sit up in her bed.
“is that his name? victor?” her voice cracks as she asks the question — she doesn’t want to admit it, but the fact that she almost died and felt utterly defenseless, has made her feel so much more traumatized than she already had been in the past.
he sighs, ducking his head down in regret.
“yes. he’s... he’s my half-brother. i thought he was dead.”
he lifts his head back up to see her reaction.
as the look of surprise floods in her eyes, he sighs. “i’m so sorry that he went after you. it’s all my fault... ”
shock takes over her face as she tilts her head to the side in confusion.
“wh—what? you think this is your fault?”
he arches his eyebrows in surprise, not understanding how she doesn’t blame him. “you don’t blame me?”
she scoffs — as best as she can through her throat, considering she had claws pressed against her throat, her neck was cut through harshly, and she’d almost been choked to death by an actual psycho-maniac.
“logan, none of this is your fault. for... ” she trails off, shoving down the new trauma of being attacked by his psychotic brother.
“for whatever reason... v—victor made his choice. you can’t control that.”
“it is, though. kid, if you hadn’t been involved with me, then he wouldn’t have come after you... ” the troubled look in his eyes only multiplies by every passing second.
[y/n] furrows her brows together, hating that he’s blaming himself. especially, for something that’s not his fault.
“logan... ”
he shakes his head, already knowing what she’s going to say.
“no, he knew how i care for you. it’s my fault!”
without thinking, she grabs his wrist gently, before moving her other hand to hold his.
then, she asks the question she so desperately wants to, “logan? what do you mean by that? how do you care for me?”
her voice is so soft and quiet that he almost doesn’t hear it.
“you know how i feel about you.” comes his gruff tone of voice.
she nervously laughs.
“no, logan. i—i don’t — i really don’t... ”
“logan,” she says, gulping as she remembers what she had told him just before she went unconscious.
“you know how i feel about you — i told you how i felt when we were with victor. but, you’ve never been honest with me about your feelings — i don’t know what you feel for me, or even, if it’s the same as mine. so, please, just be honest with me.”
he sighs as her eyes fill with tears, before she numbly nods.
“right. well, then. i guess... i have my answer.”
logan gapes at her as she moves to the other side of her bed and gets up.
she limps over to the door, just about ready to ask him to leave.
but, before she can quite open it yet, he mutters, “fuck this.”
then, he stands up from his spot on the bed and walks over to her in quick strides.
“fuck. you know i feel the same — you know that.” he murmurs as he grabs her hands and pulls her back with him to the edge of her bed, until he’s sitting down and she’s straddling him.
his hands stay by his sides, unsure of what he can do without over-stepping.
but, as tears cloud her eyes again, he sighs.
his eyebrows knit together in both concern and guilt as he realizes that him holding back on admitting his feelings have hurt her.
“why? why is it so hard for you to just say it? am i that terrible?” she cries, unable to act tough around him anymore.
“shit... ” he mutters, clenching his fists, quickly becoming angry at himself, once more.
he carefully places his hands around the sides of her neck, being careful to not put too much pressure on it, before leaning his forehead over hers.
“i’m sorry, sweetheart.” he mumbles, wiping away her tears with a frown placed on his lips.
“i just want you to admit it. you know how i feel about letting people in... and i didn’t want to fall for you — i didn’t want to give you the chance to hurt me. but, i fell anyways.” she whispers, but he can hear her since they’re so close to each other.
“all of this isn’t easy for me, logan. but, i’m willing to give it a chance... if you are. if you’re not... then, we can’t do this.” she tells him, pulling her forehead away from his.
thinking about the possibility of having to let him go tears her apart on the inside, but she holds it together.
“[y/n]... ” he trails off, his head tilting to the side in shock.
sighing, [y/n] takes in a deep breath.
“logan, it’s okay. i understand why we can’t. you... can’t give your heart to anyone else ever again — after everything you’ve been through and all the people you’ve lost. i get it.” she mutters, not being able to help feeling so bitter that they can’t go any further in this relationship.
but, as she begins to get up and off of him, in a matter of seconds, something switches in logan — the fear of losing her forever overrides his fear of getting close to anyone ever again.
he pulls her back down onto his lap and slams his lips onto hers, causing some shocked mumbles to leave her lips.
logan smirks as he realizes that he’s finally left her speechless.
[y/n], however, wraps her arms around his neck, now completely melting into this kiss that has grown a lot more heavier and heated.
when she finally pulls away to catch her breath, her eyes flutter open as a red flush takes over her cheeks.
he chuckles. “finally got you speechless, huh, kid?”
suddenly, being a little shy about their moment seems to quickly morph into irritation.
“how many times do i have to tell you to stop calling me ‘kid’?” she exclaims seriously, lightly shoving his shoulder.
he laughs in amusement.
“oh, but it’s so fun getting you all riled up, sweetheart. besides, you’re hot when you’re mad. you know that?” he winks at her playfully, only trying to lighten the mood and make her feel more comfortable.
she groans, tossing her head back up in the air. “god, logan. really?”
he laughs again, before his facial expression turns serious.
“i do want to fight for this, y’know?” he murmurs, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear when she tilts her head back down to look back at him.
“really?” she asks in a small voice, happy tears beginning to form in her eyes.
he nods, raising a brow at her.
“yeah... i love you too much now to lose you.” he tells her, giving her the answer she wants, deep down.
her eyes widen in shock, before a smirk takes over her lips.
“did i hear that correctly? maybe... you should say it again.” she says in a teasing tone of voice, giggling as he grumbles.
“babydoll, i ain’t saying that again. so, you better appreciate it while you can.” he mutters, grunting in surprise as she shuts him up with an excited kiss.
“i love you, too, logan.” she whispers, smiling happily as she wraps her arms around him in an embrace — a hug, one that logan can’t help but accept immediately, in order to make her happy, once more.

Hi!!! Can you do one of Logan taking care of a sick reader?!?!
His Way of Helping
Tumblr media
Stumbling out of the bathroom I felt sick to my stomach after throwing up. I grumbled under my breath I crawled back into the bed burying myself underneath the blankets. Foosteps approached where I recognized Logan's voice enter the room. "What's the matter with you, Y/n?" Even though he asked so bluntly I could hear the faint concern hidden in his tone. That he didn't show to anyone else but me. "I'm sick, Logan....and I feel like I just threw up half my stomach." He slowly walks over sitting down on the bed seeing me barely pull back the covers from my head.
Logan wasn't one to show affection since he was a mutant and I was just a human. He claims that there's no humanity in him and he is a weapon but I see something good in him. "Food positioning or something babe?" He asked tucking hair behind my ear coming to lay down beside me in the bed. Gripping the space of the sheets in between us I slowly scooted over towards him. He stiffened when I tried laying my head on his chest. "What are you doing Y/n...I don't cuddle with people." Lifting my head up I gripped his shirt in my fingers with a weak look.
"Logan, I know you don't do great with affection unless it involves sleeping with someone. But I am sick and not feeling like myself. So it would be helpful if I could just let myself curl up into your warmth." He sighs wrapping his arms around my waist. I hummed laying my head in the crook of his neck breathing in his scent already feeling slightly better. He rests his chin on top of my head kissing my forehead a few times. My hands gripped his shirt tracing patterns lazily in relief. "I'll try and get better at showing you the affection you deserve. Y/n I promise you that." He whispered listening to my breathing slow as I fell to sleep in his embrace.
Comments really appreciated ❤️

LOGAN HOWLETT - BEGIN AGAIN
Logan’s mission was a failure, a trap. He was glad he got away before he could end up in a cage, locked forever. It was supposed to be easy. An in-and-out mission with a mutant child. Fuck no. He was met with a bunch of soldiers, ready to kill him. And, there was no child. He quickly learned that it was a set-up. The child that Charles had found got moved away from that facility.
On his way back to the school, he found a place to get a drink. The moon was up in the sky, illuminating the night world. The air got colder. He still had a long road home. One little detour to a bar wouldn’t hurt anybody, right? A drink would lift his spirits.
He parked a stolen motorbike in front of a dive bar. Drink or two to get his mindset straight, and then he would head back to the school.
The place smelled like a hellhole - urine, spilt alcohol and cigars. It was a perfect place to hide a corpse. By the smell, he wondered if there wasn’t a rotten body under the floor. He sat at the bar, ordered a beer and minded his business. He could hear everything with his enhanced hearing - even a pin drop.
Whistles came from behind his back when he was on his second beer. That could only mean one thing - a woman entered this hellhole. Probably a hooker, he thought.
“Hey baby, are you lost?” he heard someone’s sleazy voice.
“Now that’s what I call entertainment for tonight!” another man shouted. Some even made howling sounds.
Logan gently turned his head to the side, ready to see an old hag or a trashy whore. What he found was a young woman approaching the bar. She had torn old clothes on her, covered in dirt and dust. He wouldn’t stare at her if it weren’t for the bruises and scratches on her face and hands. He frowned. What the fuck happened to her?
She took a seat two seats to his left side. The corner of his eyes captured three scumbags approaching her as if she was their prey. Logan gripped his beer bottle tighter, his knuckles becoming white.
“Baby, let’s have some fun,” one guy touched the woman’s shoulder, making her face them.
“Leave me alone,” she said, her voice barely a whisper.
“Come on, sugar, don’t be a prude,” another man touched her cheeks, mapping the wounds on her face. “Somebody had their turn. Now, we want to have some fun. Huh?”
It was Logan’s cue to step in. He was fast enough to take the man’s hand off the woman. He gripped it tightly with his, twisting it. “Leave her alone, dipshit. I’m not gonna say it twice.”
“Get your paw off me, dude,” the man growled. He couldn’t get away from Logan’s hold. His friends got his back, ready to beat Logan’s ass. “And leave before the we will teach you a lesson.”
The woman’s breathing sped up, distressed from everything that was happening. “Stop, please,” she said to all of them. But she was cornered at the bar by one of the guys. There was nowhere to escape.
Logan smiled at the bastards. “I’d like to see you try.”
His adamantium claws slid out and penetrated the man’s skin on his arm, almost cutting off the limb. He screamed from the pain, blood spurting everywhere. Then was kicked in the gut.
One of the men grabbed the woman’s shoulder, pushing her to him. A knife appeared under her throat. He wanted to get away with her. “No, please,” she gasped as she felt the man’s other hand wrapped around her torso, holding her against her will. She was tired, beaten and ready to give up.
“Shh, darlin’, it’ll be over soon. We’ll have some fun. Be a good girl and come with me.”
Logan’s eyes found the woman visibly disgusted and afraid. As he was about to finish the second guy, the woman pushed the bastard off her.
“No,” she screamed. And with that painful sound, some force escaped her body, knocking down everyone around her, even Logan. He flew through the bar and smashed into a wall like the rest of the people. Glasses and bottles shattered around the place.
Logan grunted, surprised by what happened. Slowly, he got on his feet. His eyes found the woman again, standing at the same spot, alone. Her body was shaking. It seemed she was on the verge of crying.
Grunting, he stood up and walked to her. She pressed herself against the bar. “No, please.”
“Don’t worry,” his voice was softer than before. “I ain’t gonna hurt ya, kid.”
She took a step back, shaking her head. She didn’t believe a word he said. No wonder.
Fuck this night! Then and there, he knew he had to take her with him. At least he wouldn’t come empty-handed.
“We are the same,” he tried again, slowly reaching for her. “I can take you to a safe place. There are people like us who can help you.”
His eyes scanned the woman’s face. He knew only two options could have happened: A) She got beaten up by her significant other. B) She escaped some sick fuckers who experimented on her.
People around were getting on their feet, shaking off the dizziness. They were processing what happened. Some of them were able to put two and two together - mutants.
“Come before they try to kill us both,” Logan tried her again. “Take my hand. I ain’t gonna hurt ya.”
“Fucking mutants!” someone shouted. “Kill them! Kill them both!”
This time, the woman didn’t hesitate and grabbed Logan’s hand. What choice did she have? He led her out of the bar before the first gunshots started. He got to his bike and sat on it. “Quick, hop behind me.”
At least seven men ran out of the bar with shotguns and pistols, shooting at them. One of the bullets hit Logan’s shoulder. He snarled from the pain. He started the bike before more shots could get to him or the woman.
When he felt her body against his back, he started the engine. “Hold me tight,” he shouted at her.
The woman grabbed him by the waist, gripping him tightly. The gunshots weren’t stopping. A few of them swished near their heads. Her heart beat fast. She gave her life to some stranger. The last time that happened, they tortured her.
One of her hands let go of the man’s and turned her weak body to the side. One more time, the power escaped her hand, and she protected them from the bullets that kept flying around. Again, a veil of some energy surrounded them. Under the moonlight, it seemed silvery and light blue.  Bullets got absorbed into the shield.
It lasted only a few seconds, and then the energy disappeared. The shooting stopped. Logan got them far away from that hellhole. Now, it was just the two of them on the bike driving away.
“You okay?” he asked, shouting through the wind.
He then felt her other arm sneak around his waist to hold onto him. The rest of her body leaned against his back. He heard a deep exhale and a soft “yeah”.
He couldn’t believe anything that happened today - first, a failed mission that almost got him captured. Now, a woman on his bike, whom he saved from pervs. Plot twist - she was a mutant with an ability he had never seen before.
And he didn’t know her name.
Logan registered that her body got heavier, and the grip on his waist loosened. “Shit,” he cursed and slowed down, bringing the vehicle to a stop. He moved fast, doing his best to capture her body before she could fall.
“Hey,” he shook her a little as he took her into his arms. “Come on, kid, I need you to come back and look at me.”
Unknowingly, he brushed her cheek with his thick fingers. Damn, she was pretty. That’s when she opened her eyes slowly, staring into his. “I’m sorry,” was all she said.
“That’s okay, kid. Can you hold on a little longer? We are two and a half hours away from a safe place.”
She took a deep breath. “Please, just kill me and don’t make me suffer.”
Logan frowned. He got an answer he wondered. Option B was the correct one. “What? No, not happening, bub. I won’t harm ya. I promise you that.”
“I’ve heard that before.”
“I get it, kid. I get you have no reason to believe me. Just this once, trust me.”
He helped her to her feet, holding her tight in case she’d lost balance. Her eyes found his. Tears were sparkling inside of them. “Okay,” she whispered.
“Good girl,” he praised her gently and helped her get on the bike behind him. “If you need anything, tell me and I’ll stop. Keep your eyes open.”
I should have stolen a car, he thought. But at least they were on their way to Charles Xavier’s school for gifted youngsters.
They entered the school’s estate. From afar, they could see the lights coming from the building. The woman exhaled, and her hands again lost their grip. This time, she fell from the bike onto the hard ground. It was so quick that he didn’t have time to notice she was slipping off him. “Shit!” Logan cursed and brought the bike to a halt, jumping off it.
He ran to the woman, kneeling next to her. First, he checked her up, just to be sure she wasn’t dead. “Hey, hey,” he tapped her face, trying to wake her. Nothing happened. His fingers managed to find a pulse. Fortunately, it was there. “Storm! Charles!” he shouted from the top of his lungs. “Anyone!”
Logan grabbed her body, holding her under the knees and back. He started to walk to the school. One of her arms was hanging in the air.
The main entrance door opened. Several people ran outside. Storm was the first one out, followed by Beast and Bobby. They were all dressed in sleep outfits. Their sleep was interrupted by the unexpected turn of events. It was two in the morning.
“Holy shit,” Bobby commented when he noticed the woman in Logan’s arms.
“Oh my god! What happened?” Storm questioned.
Together, they walked inside the mansion and headed to the lower grounds where they had their infirmary. It was hard to be silent. When they walked inside, Logan put the woman on an examination table.
“Damn,” Scott commented.
Jean was already there, prepping the tools. When she approached the woman, she gasped. “What the hell happened to her?” Storm helped as much as she could. Hank approached the table as well.
Logan was visibly pissed. His chest was heaving, and he wanted to punch a wall. “Where the fuck is Charles?” he asked loudly. “Fucking mission, fucking night!”
“Who did this to her?” Storm asked, her hands gently brushing the woman’s bruised face. It played with colours, spreading from one side to the other. Her fingers brushed against the scratches. “What’s her name?”
Logan huffed. “Don’t know. There wasn’t a lot of opportunity to chit-chat when scumbags were shooting at us,” he explained to them. “All I know is she’s a mutant. She protected our asses. That’s why I brought her here.”
“Vitals are stable. There is no internal bleeding.” Jean informed them once she checked the first data that she got. “Hm,” a sound escaped her throat. “We need to scan her body to see if she has anything broken.”
“Logan had to get a child, and he comes back with a woman,” Scott commented not so silently.
“Scott,” Ororo glared at him. “He saved her life.”
“You’re such a dick, Summers,” Logan frowned at him.
“It’s good you brought her here, Logan,” Hank joined the conversation.
“She was about to become a toy for some fuckers who can’t keep their dick in their pants,” Logan said. “And then she showed me what’s in her. I’ve seen a lot of shit throughout my life. Honestly, I’ve never seen this kind of mutation.”
“What did she do?” Hank asked. Everyone wanted to know more.
The Wolverine grunted and shook his head. “Dunno how to describe it. Some force got out of her that threw us all away from her. It was powerful, it stung like a bitch. It looked like a veil of energy. When she used it again, it absorbed all the bullets fired at us.”
“Flyrokinesis?” Jean questioned.
“It’s a possibility,” Hank nodded. “But I’d need to see it. Or it could be Flyrogenesis.”
“Or both,” Jean added.
“Defensive mutations are rare,” Storm chimed in. “It’s been decades since we got any information about a mutant like this.”
“Until we know more, we can only speculate,” Hank ended the discussion.
“Let’s give her some rest,” Jean turned to the screens. “She’ll be out for a while, and we all need to rest. We’ll know more tomorrow.”
They left the infirmary one by one and headed back to their rooms. The last two people who remained were Storm and Logan. Both of them stayed by the unconscious woman. “I cannot believe someone did this to her,” she said.
“I think she escaped some lab,” said Logan. “When she was conscious, she didn’t believe I wanted to take her to a safe place. She wanted me to kill her.”
“It’s a good thing you brought her here, Logan,” Storm patted his shoulder.
Logan’s eyes kept travelling around the woman’s face, taking in her hair and their colour. “For now, we can only guess what happened. But, fuck, she looked like she escaped hell.”
. . .
White light, so bright it hurt her eyes. It was painful to open her eyes. She slowly got used to it by rapid blinking. The white turned into silver, then steel-blue, until the first outlines appeared. Her ears registered a steady beeping sound. Where the hell was she? What happened? What was this palace? Panic started to rise inside her chest. Her body started to shiver.
There was a man who promised to take her to a safe place. How could she trust a stranger?
Fuck, it was hard to breathe. The beeping sound fastened. She ended up locked somewhere. Again. It was another lab - she was sure of it.
A woman’s face appeared above her. She had short white hair and a smile on her face. Weird. “It’s okay, you are safe,” were the first words she heard. “Calm your breathing. You are in distress.”
“W-what-”
“You are safe now. No one is going to hurt you here,” the woman had a soothing voice.
“W-where am I?” she whispered with fear. Her whole body was shaking. Tears threatened to escape her eyes.
“You are in a school for mutants,” she explained.
“School?”
“Yes, school. It is not a lab or some kind of crazy facility. We have children here who are like us, special.”
A school for mutants, she repeated inside her head. New emotion came to her face - confusion. “I don’t understand. W-who are you?”
“My name is Ororo Munroe,” she introduced herself. “But they also call me Storm.”
She tilted her head to the side. “Storm?”
“I have weather-manipulating abilities,” she said with a smile. “What’s your name?”
She took a deep breath. “My name is Y/N Y/L/N,” she introduced herself, eyes never leaving Ororo’s dark ones. Y/N sat up carefully.
It had to be a lab. There were monitors and displays with data. Her eyes lowered to her hands, and she saw an IV on top of her hand. Y/N realised her hands were not tied up. Was Storm telling the truth?
“How are you feeling, Y/N? Do you need anything?”
“Uh,” she tried to find the right words. “I’m tired, my whole body hurts, and I am confused.”
“Give it a moment. It will all click together. I can promise you that,” said Storm.
The door to the infirmary opened. An older man wheeled in on a modified wheelchair. Y/N’s eyes followed his every move. He was bald but dressed in a fancy suit. He had a gentle smile on his lips.
“Y/N,” he said her name.
She frowned, not expecting anyone to know her. It was alarming. “How do you know my name?”
“Y/N, this is Professor Charles Xavier. He’s like us, a mutant. He has an all-powerful brain thanks to his telepathic powers,” Storm introduced the man to her. “He’s the headmaster of the school.”
He approached the woman, gently touching her hand. “I am so sorry for your suffering, but please know you are safe here.”
“Don’t…” she raised her hand. “Please, don’t read my mind.”
“I’m sorry, my dear, I didn’t want to pry. It’s just that your thoughts were screaming so loud, it was impossible not to hear them,” Charles explained to her. “I will not talk about it. It is up to you to share your story.”
Her shoulders dropped, and she relaxed. “Thank you.”
“Now, let me tell you about this place,” he wheeled a bit farther away from her, observing the room as if he were there for the first time. “In this school, we not only teach children and help them learn their mutations, but we also accept fugitives and help them learn.”
She tilted her head, wincing in pain. “Are you offering me a place to stay?” her voice was softer than before.
“That is if you want to,” Charles nodded.
It came as a shock. Tears appeared in her eyes. “I don’t have to run anymore?” she asked timidly.
“No, Y/N,” he smiled. “You are safe here, with us.” Charles wheeled back to the door, obviously pleased. “Welcome to the X-Mansion. If you need anything, come see me in my office.” And then he was gone.
Y/N turned her head to Ororo, wiping off the tears that gathered in her eyes. It was all surreal. “I was expecting many things to happen, but not this.” And then, “Wait, but I have nothing. No money, no clothes. I can’t afford to stay here. I can’t give you anything.”
Ororo stopped her. “Don’t worry about it. First, you need to get better. You still have bruises and wounds around your body that need to heal.”
Y/N’s hands shot up to her face, fingers grazing over scratches. Then, under her fingertips, she felt a bruise under her eye that hurt a little. Her eyes were looking for a mirror or a reflection. She needed to see the damage. Her mind wandered into her memories, looking back at what happened. For now, it was all a mush. Everything that had happened overlapped. She pressed fingers to her temple, massaging them.
“You okay?” Ororo’s hand appeared on her shoulder.
Y/N nodded. “Yeah, just a mild headache.”
Half an hour later, she met more people - Dr. Jean Grey, who ran more tests on her. She X-rayed Y/N’s entire body just to be sure there was nothing broken. Later, she did a scan to see if there was any indication that would capture Y/N’s mutant power.
When Y/N met Hank, she got scared. She never saw a mutant who looked like that - a blue ball of fur and monster claws. No, he was not a monster. He looked like a beast. “I’m sorry,” she quickly apologised.
Hank was with Jean, looking at scans they made together. “Do you see that?” he asked, his thick blue finger pointing at the blue hue floating inside her body. “Have you seen anything like that before?”
“No,” she said. “But it’s nothing, to be honest. It barely showed in the scan. It might not even mean anything.”
“Or it can be everything,” Hank looked at Jean. “But I agree, so far we have nothing. She’ll be healthy in no time. But, we need to know what she can do.”
After the tests, Ororo brought her a bathrobe and took her upstairs. It was a perfect time to walk around the mansion. All the kids were in their classes or outside, and no one was around.
Y/N’s eyes wandered around the place. She couldn’t take in how massive the institute was. It carried the history and memories of so many people. Overall, in one word, this place was magnificent. “This is amazing,” she whispered.
Ororo’s hands held her shoulder as they walked to the highest floor in the mansion. She opened one of the many doors. They belonged to a bedroom. “Is this yours?” Y/N asked.
“No,” Storm closed the door. “This will be your room, Y/N. You have a bathroom here,” she pointed at the door beside the bed. “And a closet.”
“I thought that this was your room. It’s too nice.”
Storm laughed. “I have my room on a different level. Here’s how it works: The students share bedrooms. The youngest are in groups of three to four. The older two to three. Adults like privacy, so they have a room for themselves.”
Y/N nodded, understanding what she was saying. “Thank you.”
After Storm gave Y/N instructions, she was left alone in the bedroom. She had to sit down on a bed to take it all in. They gave her a bed, hot water, and so much more. It seemed surreal. What if this was all a dream? She sat in silence, waiting for someone to wake her up with torture.
Five minutes passed, then ten and fifteen. Nothing happened. Maybe it was real. Y/N pinched herself, and it hurt. It is real. She went into the bathroom and took a shower. Everything was there - towels, soaps, shampoos.
Surreal.
Clothes were resting on her bed when she came out of the bathroom, wrapped in fluffy towels. There were jeans, socks, underwear, bras, t-shirts, sweaters, hell even shoes. There were only a few pieces from each item. Y/N pressed her fingers to her temples. She wanted to cry. How is it possible that her life turned upside down in less than a day?
Once fully dressed, she opened the door and peeked into the hallway. No one was present. She walked outside, clean and fresh, ready to explore the place more. Her walk was careful and slow. Her fingertips touched everything she could reach - the wooden walls, the statues and the paintings. Her eyes were travelling around the place, taking it all in.
What was fascinating was the portraits of Oscar Wilde, Jane Austen and other novelists. It brought her memories of when she would read books in her bedroom.
“You alright, kid?”
That voice was familiar. It made Y/N turn her eyes to see a well-built man with unusual facial hair. She couldn’t deny he was handsome. She had to blink a few times. This man was the guy who got her here. As she observed him, the white tank top with a black flannel shirt over it, she tilted her head to the side. Damn.
“Yeah,” she said.
“I’m glad to hear that,” he took a few steps closer to her.
“You are the guy who brought me here,” she pointed a finger at him but quickly retracted it. “I’m sorry,” she shook her head. “I remember so little from that day.”
“Well, tough night.”
There was a flash of memory from that night. His face, looking down at her, lips moving and saying something that she couldn’t quite comprehend. “Sorry for ruining your evening.”
He chuckled. “You just happened to be in the right place at the right time.”
She opened her mouth but then closed it. She didn’t know what to say. The man talked instead. “What’s your name, kid?”
“Y/N,” she introduced herself.
“Logan.”
“Logan,” she whispered his name. “Nice to meet you. And thank you for saving my ass.”
He only nodded. “I should get goin’. I have a class to teach,” he said.
She crossed her arms akimbo. “You teach? Here? In this school?”
“What, is it that hard to believe?” he chuckled.
“Actually, yeah. You don’t look like the guy who wants to teach kids,” she commented. “What do you teach?”
“History and combat training.”
Y/N opened her mouth but then made a face, perplexed. “Combat training?” Why would they teach combat training in a school? And then it hit her, to defend themselves if necessary.
Logan walked past her, heading to the stairs. “I guess I’ll see you around.”
She gave him a simple nod, and then he was gone. Y/N’s eyes had trouble pulling away from the spot she saw him. This Logan guy was a handsome man with a rough exterior.
She continued walking through the long hallway until she found another set of stairs that she took to a lower level. She must have been walking like this for another thirty minutes until she came down to the entrance hallway. This place was indeed huge.
She kept turning, trying to figure out which way to go next. A school bell started to ring. Another lesson was over. The doors opened, and kids of all ages walked out. There were so many of them. And they were all happy. They weren’t lying. This building was filled with them - from the youngest kids to teenagers.
A paper plane flew before her eyes, steadily floating in the air. A boy used his ability to make them fly. Magical.
Her eyes captured Storm walking with another man, chatting. It was probably another teacher. Y/N decided to wait for Storm and ask about the place some more until someone shouted: “Watch out!”
Y/N spun on her heel. Her breath got lost when she found a fireball heading straight to her. Her hands immediately went up in the air. To protect herself, a veil of blue hue covered her whole being. It was a forcefield, and it absorbed the fireball. Y/N could feel the energy in her palms.
Why would anyone throw a fireball? That scared the shit out of her. The veil disappeared once the danger was gone, and her hands fell to her body. She took a few deep breaths. Her eyes caught a boy staring at her with big eyes. Was it him who did it? Impressive.
“Did you see that?”
“Who is she?”
“What kind of power is that?”
The students saw it all. They whispered about it while staring right at her. There were many of them looking and talking. The voices rang in her head. Just calm down, Y/N, she told herself. They are just kids.
Storm’s eyes were wide and sparkling with excitement. She was fast enough to run to her. “Forcefield,” she exclaimed.
Y/N twisted and turned on the spot, looking at everyone. All eyes were on her. It made her feel vulnerable. Her eyes caught Logan standing at the stairs, observing. She couldn’t read his face.
“Everyone back to your classes,” Logan ordered the students.
“Amazing,” Storm commented. “We were wondering what your power was.”
Y/N’s eyes widen. She’d never heard someone say that to her. Creep! A woman’s voice screamed inside her head. Murderer! Psychotic bitch! She wrapped her hands around herself, taking a step back. It all came back again.
“Hey, hey,” Storm put her hands on her shoulders. “You don’t have to hide here. We are all the same. The students were surprised by your ability.”
Come to my office, Y/N, she heard in her head. She spun on her heel to look around, trying to find the source of the voice.
“I think I heard the… the Professor,” she said.
“He’s in his office. That way,” Storm turned Y/N to the right side. There was a hallway leading to a big wooden door.
Y/N managed to catch Logan’s eyes looking at her before he left. He was something else - that’s how she could describe it.
Hesitantly, she walked over to the door, ready to knock, when she heard the Professor telling her to come in. As said, she opened the door and walked inside. She was met with the older bald man, still wearing fancy clothes.
“Take a seat.”
Y/N sat on a brown leather armchair. The place smelled like wood and books. There were lots of them. The armchair was comfortable. Her back was straight, and her body was stiff, always ready to run if necessary.
“I would like to know more about your mutation,” he wheeled closer to her.
“What do you want to know?”
He smiled. “Anything you’d like to share with me. I know I can look, but I don’t want to pry.” When he saw the distrustful look, he chose different words. “The more we know about your power, the better we can train you. We can give you more information about your mutation.”
“How can I know you won’t use it against me?”
Charles nodded. “You don’t. We will need to build the trust together.”
“Before I answer you,” she took a deep breath. There were some questions, and she needed answers. “What exactly do you do here?”
The man sighed. “What you see is true - this is a school. There was an idea it would become a mixed school for mutants and humans. That never came to life. Now, it is a safe place for mutant kids, disapproved by the regular society. I find children around the States, and we bring them here - if they want to. Occasionally, we give adults a place to stay, like we did for you.”
It was sincere. Charles wasn’t lying. She could feel it. “This ability showed when I was around 15. I know that it can protect me when I am in danger. I can sense the energy in my hands when I let it out. I can’t protect another person if you are wondering.”
“But…” he goaded.
“I killed with this burst of energy. I hurt people with it. I believe you saw it, didn’t you?”
Charles nodded. “Yes, I did. You can create a protective force field that keeps you out of danger. For example, what happened minutes ago, the fireball one of the students accidentally threw at you.”
She frowned at him, not liking what he was saying. “Then why did I kill with it?”
“There is an explanation to it. From what I saw-”
“When I asked you not to look,” she cut his speech.
“I apologise, Y/N. It is not my intention to hurt you or be nosy. As I already told you, your thoughts and memories were screaming, mixing inside your head. The door was open, and I only peeked in.”
She closed her eyes, taking a few deep breaths to calm down. “You saw it all?”
“No,” he shook his head. “But enough to have a picture. As I said, it is your story to tell, Y/N.”
“What you saw?”
“The day you used your power for the first time.”
It was a moment, a three-second glimpse into her past, but she was back in her child's room, messing with her then-boyfriend. And then, they were arguing when it happened. The force that escaped her body killed the boy and destroyed half the house she once lived in.
“If we want to know more, we must see what you can do. Flyrokinesis is the ability to create and manipulate force fields. It is mostly defensive. However, there can be some offensive moves done with it. This mutation is exceptional.”
She cocked a brow, not sold on it.
“We can help you learn and work with your ability. That is if you want.”
No one is forcing you to stay, Y/N. The choice is up to you. His voice was in her head again.
No more running, no more experiments or killing. Y/N could choose her life. Out of everything that had happened in her life, this, so far, seemed like the best thing that could have happened to her. Fucking trust issues.
“We have everything you need and more,” Charles wasn’t using his telekinesis. “You don’t have to worry about anything.” There was a smile playing on his lips. “No more running.”
“No more running,” she repeated.

Class Time (Part 2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Bang Chan x f!reader (Y/N)
Genre: Fluff, Teacher AU
Content Warning: None
A/N: Okay, so @that-crazy-five-foot-two-chick requested I finish this, and then I did, and then the power went out, and then I drove out to see my parents, and then the power went out again. So there might... be a part 3 eventually?
Chris motions you toward the door. “Come on, then.”
You gather your coat and bag and join him in leaving the art classroom. You lock up behind you.
“I’m telling you, I am absolutely useless when it comes to… well, any type of sport,” you chuckle nervously as you stroll down the hall to the stairs. “The last time I tried to play a sport, I got hit in the face with a plastic baseball bat, nearly ripped the braces right off my teeth,” you shudder, remembering more the embarrassment than the pain.  [a/n: true story my sister insisted I include]
“B-braces? Are you saying you haven’t done any sports since, what, high school?” He looks aghast.
“What’s the saying again? Fool me once, never again?” You say.
He laughs heartily, gasping for air. “I don’t think that’s how the saying goes.” It takes him a moment to recover from his breathless laughter. Something about his laughter made you wish he would laugh all the time.
You just shrug and flash a smile at him. “Anything to keep these pearly whites safe.” You flick your hair behind you in an attempt to look haughty, but you smile anyway.
Chris pushes the gym doors open, and students are already standing around waiting. They’re scattered about, playing games amongst themselves.
From the distance, you hear a familiar gasp and the patter of trainers heading toward you. “Wah, seonsaengnim?! You’re here too?!” Dowoon skids to a stop just short of running straight into you.
“Your coach helped me today, so it’s only fair.” You chuckle.
The students gather themselves around Chris before he even has the chance to ask them.
“So today,” he starts, giving you a mischievous glance before turning his attention to the students, “we’ll be having a little… how should we say… competition?” He rubs his hands together.
Your stomach drops. Competition?!
“It’ll be Channie-ssaem against Y/N-ssaem and it’ll be a little game of dodgeball.”
You fail to stifle a guffaw and it comes out more like a snort than a laugh. And then you laugh a little more before you stop dead-pan to look him straight in the eye. “D-dodgeball?”
“Don’t worry, we’ll just pick the teams and watch,” he seems to enjoy watching you squirm. “Y/N-ssaem and I will pick the teams.”
Dowoon pipes up from the spot he’s chosen on the floor. “What happens if you win?”
“Oh, we should make a bet, shouldn’t we?” Chris puts a hand on his hip. “If I win, Y/N-ssaem has to buy me dinner. Counter?” The students ooh and ahhh, nudging each other and giggling.
You look up at him, arms crossed and lips pursed. “If I win, you have to model for my class for the rest of the week.” This sends a ripple of boos across the class. I guess that wasn’t as spicy as the kids hoped it would be, huh?
The two of you divvy up the class into two. Chris calls his team the Wolverines, affectionately named after Australia’s own Hugh Jackman, and you call your team the Picassoes. They split themselves off across each half of the gym.
“Alright, kids, you know the rules! No head shots, no groin shots, everything else is fair game. You catch a ball, the student who threw it is out. Make us proud!” He yells, blowing his whistle.
Out of the corner of your eye, you see Chris kneel down and hit play on what you can only describe as a CD player right out of the early aughts. You clearly catch his distinctive voice on the tracks, and the music adds so much energy to the already chaotic game.
Rubber balls are flying about, students running, jumping, and spinning around to avoid being caught by the balls. They laugh joyfully all the while. Even as students begin to get hit, they still cackle raucously.
And then, one by one, the teams begin to shrink. Rather, your team begins to shrink, and rapidly. They’re having too much fun to notice that their numbers have dropped nearly to half. Chris comes to stand beside you, nudging you.
“I have pretty expensive taste, y’know.”
“And I make an art teacher's salary, so it better not be that expensive.” You grumble.
“I think I want a big ol’ lamb chop.”
“Do they even have lamb chops in K—-,” your sentence is cut off as a rubber ball comes flying and hits you directly in the face, knocking you off your feet.
You hear balls bouncing as students drop everything to check on you. Chris drops to his knees.
“Y/N! Y/N, are you alright?!” Chris takes your hand and pulls you up, then runs his hand down your cheek. “It’s all red,” he frowns.
“Sports and me don’t mix, I tried to tell you,” you smile and promptly wince, cheek stinging something fierce. Just as you get to your feet, the bell rings.
Dowoon runs up to you, backpack in hand . “Ssaem,” he says with a giggle, “have a nice date!” The teenager winks at you and runs for the door. Your hand flies straight for your face, greeting you with another stinging pain where rubber met flesh.
In his office, Chris sits you down, gingerly placing an ice pack on your cheek. “I’m sorry, Y/N,” he says softly, face full of concern. “You’re pretty tough though, yeah?”
“I suppose,” you say, eyes glued to the ground. He’s close, really close. You look up and the two of you lock eyes for a moment. And then another, and another. You can feel his warm breath on your skin.
You both clear your throats at the same time, causing a fit of giggles. “S-so, dinner tonight?” He smiles warmly at you. “I’m thinking… Ramyeon? 7/11? What do you say?”
“Oooh, pricey.” You grin. “A little out of my price range, but I can make it work,” you chuckle and wink at him.
“Shall we?” He holds his arm out which you take as you head out of the gymnasium doors.
The bus ride back to your stop is much the same as it had been that morning, if a little colder as the sun begins to duck beneath the Seoul skyline. The two of you huddle together a little closer, the warmth of the bigger man enough to keep you comfortable. He pulls out his phone and nudges you.
“D’you wanna see something cool?” He waggles his eyebrows at you.
“Is it actually cool or is it something gross?” You giggle at the expression on his face and turn your attention to his phone screen.
He scrolls through a few apps before triumphantly showing you “Shiny. Charizard.”
You look back up to him, enthusiastically pulling out your own phone.
The two of you chuckle like school children, comparing your teams and discussing the intricacies of IVs before the robotic voice signaling your stop rings out over the bus loudspeakers.
“That’s us,” Chris says, standing up and holding his hands out to pull you up from the seats. He moves beside you, hand placed gently on the small of your back guiding you as the bus slows to a halt. He jumps out of the bus, and holds your hand steady as you disembark.
“7/11?” You say, and he nods back at you.
“7/11.”

Here is my very long post about what I think of Les Misérables (2012) after watching it again recently
Tldr: the music which should be great somehow just isn't, the camera angles are fucking weird, Russel Crowe isn't as bad as I expected, Hugh Jackman was worse than I remembered
When I watched Les Misérables (2012) the first time it was the first experience I'd had of Les mis other than the odd YouTube video of one day more (or occasionally do you hear the people sing). I didn't know what it was about I didn't know many of the songs.
I found it fairly boring, the music was ok, the middle section with the revolution was the highlight. My favourite character was Javert followed by Enjolras (but that's biased because I'm a moulin rouge and n2n fan and it was Aaron tveit).
When I watched it back I entirely expected to hate Russell Crowe as Javert but have more respect for the music and the rest of the film as I have since watched the staged concerts and been to see it live and it's fucking great I love it.
I was wrong the music still sucked and I still found it kind of boring despite absolutely loving the stage production.
The orchestra is too quiet I think which means the music loses a lot of it's grandeur and the bad singing is more obvious.
Russel Crowe has a weird tone when singing (this we already knew) and when compared to other Javert's he sucks but when compared to Hugh Jackman it's a relief whenever it's his part because holy fuck Hugh Jackman was bad. Russel Crowe honestly wasn't that bad, I quite like his Javert from an acting perspective and the singing was alright, I know when I first watched the film stars was my favourite song (just imagine how amazed I was when I heard Philip Quast's version). I wish Javert's suicide was better in the film.
Hugh Jackman was far worse than I remembered him being perhaps I have more to compare him to now, bring him home was awful that's not how that should be sung and he had me bored for like the entire bit at the start where it's basically just him (end of prologue/ VJ's soliloquy).
One day more was a bit messy but not as bad as I was expecting.
The scenery was pretty epic like they had some great cinematic shots (ship at the start, the Seine, the cliff during VJ's soliloquy) like a big musical like Les Mis deserves some cool shots like that.
The camera angles were fucking weird. I find how shows use different camera angles quite interesting but I can't figure Les Mis out, it doesn't enhance the story or characters or anything it's just distracting and adds to how boring it is. I thought the camera angles during VJ's soliloquy looked like he was vlogging. Some dramatic shots could have helped that scene a lot I think. The camera angles got a little more exciting but the weird close ups were a theme and I personally think they were poorly used and distracting.
The Thenardiers were pretty good the first time I watched it but like having seen the show since it just doesn't work they're nowhere near as funny.
When my friend watched Les Mis and said she didn't like how all the dialogue was sung and I was like ok maybe she just doesn't like sung through musicals fair enough. No the film is just weird. They like added bits of sung dialogue but they seem to have forgotten to give these bits any tune.
VJ got a new song which was a bit of a shock because honestly I don't remember it from the first time round, I think the concept of the song is pretty cool but poorly written (it was sort of boring and didn't feel like it fit with the musical).
Les Amis were once again a highlight, the pace picks up, the singing gets better, all in all it's a good chunk of the film.
Fantine was better than I remembered and Anne Hathaway went for acting over singing in I Dreamed a Dream which worked but only because it was a film.
Eddie Redmayne was good as was Sam Barks I enjoyed their bits.
Aaron Tveit was also good you can tell which of the actors are theatre actors because they can act and sing at the same time (/hj). And of course respect to George Blagden.
The child actors (I don't know their names) were also great!
Yeah I think that's it if anyone read this to the end congrats on making it

5 Non-MCU Characters I'd love to see in Deadpool & Wolverine
Tumblr media
Superbowl Sunday saw the return of everyones favorite Merc with a Mouth Deadpool in the trailer for his upcoming new movie Deadpool & Wolverine.
And as usual, Marvel hooked me.
Some fans have seen it as a return to form for the MCU, others as business as usual for Ryan Reynolds, and some just couldn't get over the little bit of Wolverine we got.
Tumblr media
Myself, I was mainly focused on one thing. Aaron Stanford.
Tumblr media
For those not in the know, this clip from the trailer shows Aaron Stanford returning as minor villain and asshole Pyro from the original X-Men Films. He was a sidekick to Magneto, and has a rivalry with Iceman in those movies.
Tumblr media
The return of Pyro from the X-Men films confirms what most fans expected: we will see old heroes and villains from the Fox era, not just Wolverine.
And while a few have been already revealed through casting news or set photos, there are plenty more in store for us, I'm sure.
This got my head gears turning, so I decided I'd look back on the old Fox films to see who I want to return, even for the briefest moment or cameo.
None of these have been confirmed officially, so you are spoiler free from here on out. But I must warn, once I put this ideas in your head, you may be mad if they don't show up.
5. Animated Deadpool Voiced by Donald Glover
Tumblr media
*sigh* The project I wish existed.
In 2017, Donald Glover was in development and given the green light on an animated Deadpool show. The show was to premiere on FX in 2018. However, for unknown reasons it was cancelled, and never debuted, leaving fans and Donald Glover displeased.
Tumblr media
After the success of films like Spider-Verse, and Glovers involvement with Marvel, having him come in for a scene where he fights with or against Ryan Reynolds Deadpool could be a fun nod to the fans and maybe give the project the boost it needs to somehow come back.
But alas, I'm still hoping Spider-Verse will bring back Spectacular Spider-Man, so what do I know?
Tumblr media
4. X-23
Tumblr media
If there is a character ripe for a spin-off from the old X-Men universe, it was definitely X-23.
It's surprising to me she hasn't been revealed as a main member of the cast. She's a character I think few people talk about anymore, but was a crucial part of the film. I'd say Logan is up there and one of the best superhero movies.
Dafne Keen and Hugh Jackman made Logan such an impactful moving film. I'd love to see where the character has gone since Logan, and see how them reuniting effects the film.
Tumblr media
Not to mention if she fought Deadpool, it would be one hell of a good (and kind of funny ) fight.
3. Apocalypse
Tumblr media
Do I like this character? Absolutely not.
Do I want him here just for the Moon Knight jokes? Yes.
I actually think theres a good Apocalypse in Oscar Isaac somewhere. Having Deadpool and Wolverine at one point face the X-Men's Thanos sounds pretty cool, and Isaac is a great comedic and dramatic performer who deserves another shot.
I wouldn't mind a CGI version that looks more comic accurate, like Beast in the Marvels.
Tumblr media
But again. I really just want Deadpool to say "So are you Steven or Marc?"
2. The Human Torch
Tumblr media
Similarly, I want the Captain America jokes.
But if there's one thing we can all agree on, it's that Human Torch was by far the best part of those Fantastic Four movies.
There's just so many things you can do with it!
We can have him in the frosted tips, in a new Fantastic Four uniform. Maybe even have him fight Pyro, stop a fire guy with a fire guy. Or have him come out from behind a train like Captain America in Infinity War, but it's Johnny.
Tumblr media
Having Evans play across Reynolds even for a bit would make so many fans happy and get more cheers then No Way Home.
Besides Evans has done a cameo in a Shawn Levy film starring Ryan Reynolds once. He can do it again.
Tumblr media
1. Legion
Tumblr media
The rumored main villain of this film tends to have a very particular vendetta with Charles Xavier. So why not use his son to acquire power?
Legion is the acclaimed show from Noah Hawley starring Dan Stevens as David Haller, a mutant with schizophrenia and basically unlimited power.
Tumblr media
Dan Stevens is incredible in this show, and I think bringing in such a powerful X-Men character would make for some fun interactions and extreme stakes. Not to mention the insane visuals, all while delving deep into the psyche of both are protagonists.
While I doubt all of these characters show up, if one or two do, I'd be extremely happy. We'll just have to wait and see.

Georgiapeach30513 posted TikTok footage from CE/co arrival at the gray man premiere last summer.
If anyone is interested, please go watch that arrival footage and compare it to CE’s arrival footage at the ghosted premiere.
TGM: he, his bro, bro bf, family friend - arrive and get out of the car facing the crowd. His publicist goes to hug his brother and all of this interaction is done out and proud in front of the crowd and cameras.
Ghosted: mickmickNYC on IG caught footage of CE’s car arriving. There is about a 20 second or so delay of nothing, b4 you see him and publicist appear from behind the car coming around to greet and walk into the cameras and crowd. This footage may be on YouTube along with the rest of the cast arrivals, including ana de armas and Hugh Jackman.
Edit: that secondary TikTok footage that came out showed what happened during that 20 second delay of him not appearing into view despite his car sitting there. He was behind the cars, “interacting with AB” where she was laughing at something - and then she just stops laughing, and stands there watching him look down at his phone. While Megan stands there and doesn’t say anything. The lady with the ponytail and cardigan stand behind them not interacting with any of them. It’s actually kind of an awkward situation if you relook back at the footage via Anneslibrary.
So…let’s say you’re really truly so happy and proud of your amazing relationship. You invite your gf to the premiere of your new movie. Your car arrives but you don’t get out of the car from the front, facing the crowd, like most red carpet arrivals do. Instead, you exit behind the car, away from cameras, and meet your “gf” who clearly arrived in a diff car (as proven by footage also on Anneslibrary) and stare at your phone while she watches you. You then spend the rest of the night not being pictured or seen with her again, not even to pose on the red carpet or even show up to the after party together.
Sure, team real will happily yap on about “you can’t tell what’s really happening behind 20 seconds of candid footage.” True. But you can see when footage and pattern behaviors break.
Look at CE arrival footage for other premieres. I’m sure there’s other TikTok’s of him arriving and emerging from his cars. Look at CE’s arrival to shoot the Hawaii footage for red one - the pap cameras caught him pulling up to set and emerging from the “front passenger” side of the car and facing the cameras for the pap shot. The pics are also on Georgia’s blog. It’s not “natural” behavior to arrive on the scene and go behind your car to walk around the long way to greet a crowd or walk on set. Red carpet arrivals are meant to cause a scene and dramatic uproar when stars arrive on the scene.
Like it or not, there is a stark diff btw how he acts when he needs to be around her publicly Vs how he acts when not with her.
Call me crazy - but I just don’t see this as natural behavior bc he’s so happy and comfortable around her or that he’s only hiding bc he’s trying to protect her from hate. I also think she’s way old enough to know atp that her showing up to his premiere was going to cause her more hate than if she had simply stayed home and “supported” him BTS. I don’t think he forced or pushed for her to show up and support him, bc if that were the case, why would he be “hiding” away his interactions with her, and then not posing with her or seen with her at any other point in the night, at least publicly? I think his hand was forced and I think he did what he could to curb “the damage. Also: this chick is the same person who missed all of her own movie premieres minus one the entirety of last year. The same pattern continues this year as she continues to ignore all of her own projects while deigning to show up to the one HW movie premiere that would get her “big” press. Tell me you an opportunist without telling me you’re an opportunist.
All the team real lurking anons, y’all can disagree as I’m sure you will. But imo, the proof is in the pudding. Something isn’t right about this relationship and I think at least one party is trying to showcase how they really feel about everything without openly saying it.
I just reblogged the post from @georgiapeach30513
Wow there is a drastic difference in interaction and attitude in both the premieres. I have the vids slowed down by a friend on my blog, and it shows only Alba and Chris' friend's wife getting out of the car. Chris arrived in a different car.
You have made some excellent points, Anon. Thank you so much for the post.
