read the sisters of dorley (alyson greaves, 2021-ongoing), a story containing such highlights as:
a satire of the trans healthcare experience in the uk
a meta-commentary on how trans women engage with/reclaim an erotica genre that both helped and hurt us growing up
the full spectrum of the transfem experience (cute & happy vs. absolute horror) juxtaposed together at all times
a bunch of neurotic trans girls in denial about being a cult
the worst opsec you've ever seen saved only by the secret it's protecting being too ludicrous to think of
more codependent transbian relationships than you can shake a stick at
the weirdest sexy chaser lady you've ever met
and a bunch of novelty mugs with really terrible puns
it's an ongoing doorstopper with every content warning under the sun and it makes me feel every human emotion at once

*tiptoes into ask box*
I'm almost afraid to ask, but what exactly is Rhythm Doctor?
(UNSKIPPABLE CUTSCENE INITIATED)
OKAY SO. be not afraid :) come here this is a completely normal hospital
basically rhythm doctor is a game where you must defibrillate patients in time with the rhythm! it's not quite as hard as rhythm heaven or anything at least IMO, but it's really addictive and i love the characters a lot!!! there's a lot of cool gimmicks and stuff but all you need is one button so you don't have to grapple with remembering controls along with reaction time!!! you can also have accessibility modes like very easy and unmissable which i appreciate a lot as a particularly shitty gamer
you are working with an overworked skeleton crew comprised of the computer nerd ian, the doctor who mainly does in-person check-ups-- Ada Paige-- and their boss who sits and stares at a clipboard while judging you at every turn, Dr. Edega! you are meanwhile a remote intern who's job is to press the button in time with the music.
there are multiple jokes about the fact that you are only ever seen as a hand. people just start assuming you are only a hand.
the rhythm doctor program means that you are canonically using the game's mechanics to defibrillate all the patients and yes their heartbeats are just like that. they sync up music to the erratic heartbeats in order to soothe arrhythmia and get people back on their feet!
the characters interact with each other in a way that genuinely makes the hospital feel alive and it's just so nice to watch them interact together, especially when the one-off characters just stick their heads into the conversation randomly. my favorite is absolutely samurai.
Tumblr media
look at this guy. look at him. he's great. he parties at clubs and plays baseball. why is he dressing up in this in modern day? why does he never take the armor off? who knows but he's silly
you're also facing off with a virus named Connectifa Abortus that uses advantage of your remote connection, and jams your signals because it can do that. it just can. also it is possibly sentient and very malicious
that's the spoiler free synopsis but you should..... buy it on steam................................... now. :)
it's only 16 bucks and works on windows, mac, and linux!!! it also is early access so chances are by getting it early you're getting it for a cheaper price!!!!!!
PLUS if you've ever heard of A Dance Of Ice And Fire it's the same ppl. 7th beat games. it's so good. play it.

I really actually love this chapter specifically, mainly because you don't get many chances to see how little gung-ho guns actually care for each other, but this chapter involves not only that but also Legato having an Absolutely Terrible time
like, he's forced to eat food in some sort of straight jacket (due to, uh, spinal compression) and nobody else has cut his food for him, or is helping him with it in any way, but they are all watching him choke on it. And he is definitely not happy about it.
Tumblr media
...And all of this seems incredibly cruel and fucked-up until you remember he can control people's bodies completely against their will (and we're reminded of it 2 pages later when he fucks up Midvalley for pointing a gun at him), which means he's doing this to himself on purpose? As some sort of weird self-harm??
Then, right after the world's worst work party, we have the world's greatest tone-shift by cutting away to Vash flipping the bike because he's over 100 years old but can't actually drive lmao

i was rewatching knb and thinking about how they go to the hospital pretty often throughout the series. and, like, kagami would be so uncomfortable with going to hospitals as often as they do in knb. with how he was raised in america since the third grade it would be nearly impossible for him to not be uncomfortable with it, especially since he was raised in a single parent household. even if his dad was able to afford a hospital visit it’s so ingrained in american culture that going to a hospital is for life and death situations only because of how devastatingly expensive hospital visits are that he’d still probably be uncomfortable with going to them anyway.

#Sorry akdbrvekkdbrjekbdke this is just. not the first time I receive an ask of this kind and I really can't figure what makes this idea–#come across and how to stop it akdmbrkskdbbeksbdbeksk#I am. very much not. Besides I feel like my English is super broke so I thought at least *that* would give it away!!!#people asks me stuff#It's just. There's a big modern cultural colonization by the usa of my and other European countries–#which... Eh... Doesn't make me... Well... Uh... Very fond of the usa to put it that way#And I KNOW it's unfair towards the people and I love all of my friends from the usa deeply and truly#But like. I totally get this is just a small thing but like... It's hard to explain.#But you need to understand the influence the usa has on Europe is BAD. And at least in my country it's utterly terrible.#And it's more of an extension of a deep capitalist structure than all usa's fault but like... My country is currently undergoing a–#privatization of healthcare and education following a blatantly american model which is BAD. There's like one (1) thing that our country–#has going on which is free healthcare and some of the current leaders want to change that just because for them if that's how it works in–#the usa then it must be good. It's bad. it's screwed up. Once every year someone brings up making of the country a federal state–#like what the fuuuuuck what is wrong with everyone. Not to mention all the media we consume comes directly from the usa and contributes–#spreading the idea the usa is on top of the world and all other countries are underdeveloped compared to them. You see why it's bad#But like. God this is an awful and faulted way to reduce an extremely complex subject I really can't dwell on because an entire thesis–#could be written on it. But there's a huge cultural colonization in Europe that makes people feel like there's no possible alternative to–#late stage american capitalism which is sooooooo so so so fucked up.#Because capitalism wins the moment people start believing no alternative is possible

The Cost of Living when Chronically Ill
It’s only the 24th April and already we have spent $1500 AUD on (desperately needed) supplements, medicine, a physiotherapist appointment, a counselling appointment, a nutritionist and my specialist. Absolutely none of the above was covered by our Medicare system. NONE.
And those expenses for April are BEFORE my EMDR session today and the 3 scans I need of my abdomen. I will soon be getting a bill in the mail for the 2 blood tests I took, as well. Next month will be a repeat of this month plus an additional $1300 for a medical treatment for my partner, AND he needs to see a dermatologist, too. In June we will be seeing my long-awaited immunologist who is also not covered by Medicare. :)
And of course I now, by law, have to pay $80 to have a 3 minute telehealth appointment with my medicinal cannabis prescriber to say “yes, everything is fine” because the government insists that any patient taking the drug has to report back every 2 months that that they are not dying because of it and are not addicts. I have enough scripts to last me the year and have been on medical cannabis for 8 years  - I know what I am doing and I am FINE on it.
Oh, and those bottles cost $270 a pop.
I have also started a new plant-based fiber-rich diet to try to heal my rapidly declining gut wall at a time when food prices are skyrocketing. We went to the local fruit and veg shop and bought the required fruit, veggies and spices to support the two of us for 1 week, and it came to $135 (and they didn’t stock everything we needed). $135! For two people! To eat healthy for ONE Week! And that was just fresh produce and not even things like pasta, laundry detergent etc. WTF?!
At the same time, just this month alone, we had most everything break on us and spent several thousand in car and house repairs.
I don’t know man I just want to be able to sleep at night without having nightmares about our finances and how we're going to afford all this. Even being one of the very lucky millennials who lives in a house we (very partially) own, we're struggling to maintain things.
I’d eat the rich but I am pretty sure I’d have a food intolerance to them too.

Hey ho, quick rant cause I keep seeing this discourse pop up on Twitter…
Self diagnosis is perfectly valid for a myriad of reasons. Many people (including myself) can’t get a professional diagnosis due to our income, where we live, our gender, our race, etc. I wish getting a diagnosis is simple but truth be told… it isn’t. This applies to physical illnesses too, not just neurodevelopmental or mental health disorders.
For example, I’m chronically ill. I’ve talked about that a lot on here. I am diagnosed with GERD and have suffered with it for 3-4 years. However, it took me a whole year to get myself properly diagnosed and medicated.
I went to multiple doctors and had several checkups. They all told me I was fine when I obviously wasn’t. I didn’t know what was wrong with me until I took it upon myself to research about multiple gastrointestinal diseases. I stumbled upon GERD and noticed I had all the symptoms. Then boom, when I mentioned that possibility to a doctor, they finally got me diagnosed and I got medication.
Self-diagnosis is one of the first steps to getting a proper diagnosis. Some of us can’t afford to do the next step, though. I personally believe that’s okay as long as you do extensive research on what you think you have.
Afterall, you know what you deal with. I know damn well I’m neurodivergent and I don’t want to waste thousands just to get someone to tell me what I already know. Plus, I’d risk getting my healthcare and privileges taken away.
Just know that not every self diagnoser is “trying to be quirky”. Majority aren’t like that. They just want to understand themselves better and realize what’s wrong with them. No one wants to be ill and no one wants to be apart of a minority that gets oppressed and misunderstood.
And don’t blame these people because “they make real diagnosed people look ridiculous”. We’ve always looked ridiculous to “normal” people regardless. A piece of paper isn’t going to stop that.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk. I have more to say but ehh this is long enough lol I’ll just ramble in tags

So I’ve been enjoying the Disney vs. DeSantis memes as much as anyone, but like. I do feel like a lot of people who had normal childhoods are missing some context to all this.
I was raised in the Bible Belt in a fairly fundie environment. My parents were reasonably cool about some things, compared to the rest of my family, but they certainly had their issues. But they did let me watch Disney movies, which turned out to be a point of major contention between them and my other relatives.
See, I think some people think this weird fight between Disney and fundies is new. It is very not new. I know that Disney’s attempts at inclusion in their media have been the source of a lot of mockery, but what a lot of people don’t understand is that as far as actual company policy goes, Disney has actually been an industry leader for queer rights. They’ve had policies assuring equal healthcare and partner benefits for queer employees since the early 90s.
I’m not sure how many people reading this right now remember the early 90s, but that was very much not industry standard. It was a big deal when Disney announced that non-married queer partners would be getting the same benefits as the married heterosexual ones.
Like — it went further than just saying that any unmarried partners would be eligible for spousal benefits. It straight-up said that non-same-sex partners would still need to be married to receive spousal benefits, but because same-sex partners couldn’t do that, proof that they lived together as an established couple would be enough.
In other words, it put long-term same-sex partners on a higher level than opposite-sex partners who just weren’t married yet. It put them on the exact same level as heterosexual married partners.
They weren’t the first company ever to do this, but they were super early. And they were certainly the first mainstream “family-friendly” company to do it.
Conservatives lost their damn minds.
Protests, boycotts, sermons, the whole nine yards. I can’t tell you how many books about the evils of Disney my grandmother tried to get my parents to read when I was a kid.
When we later moved to Florida, I realized just how many queer people work at Disney — because historically speaking, it’s been a company that has guaranteed them safety, non-discrimination, and equal rights. That’s when I became aware of their unofficial “Gay Days” and how Christians would show up from all over the country to protest them every year. Apparently my grandmother had been upset about these days for years, but my parents had just kind of ignored her.
Out of curiosity, I ended up reading one of the books my grandmother kept leaving at our house. And friends — it’s amazing how similar that (terrible, poorly written) rhetoric was to what people are saying these days. Disney hires gay pedophiles who want to abuse your children. Disney is trying to normalize Satanism in our beautiful, Christian America.
Just tons of conspiracy theories in there that ranged from “a few bad things happened that weren’t actually Disney’s fault, but they did happen” to “Pocahontas is an evil movie, not because it distorts history and misrepresents indigenous life, but because it might teach children respect for nature. Which, as we all know, would cause them all to become Wiccans who believe in climate change.”
Like — please, take it from someone who knows. This weird fight between fundies and Disney is not new. This is not Disney’s first (gay) rodeo. These people have always believed that Disney is full of evil gays who are trying to groom and sexually abuse children.
The main difference now is that these beliefs are becoming mainstream. It’s not just conservative pastors who are talking about this. It’s not just church groups showing up to boycott Gay Day. Disney is starting to (reluctantly) say the quiet part out loud, and so are the Republicans. Disney is publicly supporting queer rights and announcing company-supported queer events and the Republican Party is publicly calling them pedophiles and enacting politically driven revenge.
This is important, because while this fight has always been important in the history of queer rights, it is now being magnified. The precedent that a fight like this could set is staggering. For better or for worse, we live in a corporation-driven country. I don’t like it any more than you do, and I’m not about to defend most of Disney’s business practices. But we do live in a nation where rights are largely tied to corporate approval, and the fact that we might be entering an age where even the most powerful corporations in the country are being banned from speaking out in favor of rights for marginalized people… that’s genuinely scary.
Like… I’ll just ask you this. Where do you think we’d be now, in 2023, if Disney had been prevented from promising its employees equal benefits in 1994? That was almost thirty years ago, and look how far things have come. When I looked up news articles for this post from that era, even then journalists, activists, and fundie church leaders were all talking about how a company of Disney’s prominence throwing their weight behind this movement could lead to the normalization of equal protections in this country.
The idea of it scared and thrilled people in equal parts even then. It still scares and thrills them now.
I keep seeing people say “I need them both to lose!” and I get it, I do. Disney has for sure done a lot of shit over the years. But I am begging you as a queer exvangelical to understand that no. You need Disney to win. You need Disney to wipe the fucking floor with these people.
Right now, this isn’t just a fight between a giant corporation and Ron DeSantis. This is a fight about the right of corporations to support marginalized groups. It’s a fight that ensures that companies like Disney still can offer benefits that a discriminatory government does not provide. It ensures that businesses much smaller than Disney can support activism.
Hell, it ensures that you can support activism.
The fight between weird Christian conspiracy theorists and Disney is not new, because the fight to prevent any tiny victory for marginalized groups is not new. The fight against the normalization of othered groups is not new.
That’s what they’re most afraid of. That each incremental victory will start to make marginalized groups feel safer, that each incremental victory will start to turn the tide of public opinion, that each incremental victory will eventually lead to sweeping law reform.
They’re afraid that they won’t be able to legally discriminate against us anymore.
So guys! Please. This fight, while hilarious, is also so fucking important. I am begging you to understand how old this fight is. These people always play the long game. They did it with Roe and they’re doing it with Disney.
We have! To keep! Pushing back!

Sure there's zombies killing and eating people on the street but those people are not dying from the virus they're dying from comorbidities. For instance, that guy we saw getting eaten on the way into work today clearly died from blood loss, not infection, plus he already had a heart condition. People with preexisting conditions are just going to have to take care of themselves. Say it with me, "They're all already dead to me." See, that feels a lot better now doesn't it?
Good because you still have to go to work. No we're not paying you extra. Yes we're doubling grocery prices. No you don't qualify for disability. Or healthcare. Or a home.
Look, if you get bitten, you can stay home for one day, I guess 😒, but then you need to come in early. We're really short staffed at the moment, despite our company's profits being higher than ever. In fact we may be laying some of you off next month. You don't mind working off the clock right?
Also you look silly with that protective gear. We're gonna harass you for it, not like institutionally but just socially. Who cares if a zombie attacks you? Who cares if we invite them into the building? You don't need to defend yourself, you're just overreacting. If you get bitten just tell everyone the festering bite mark is from a different animal, that's what we all do.
And hey, don't worry so much. It's endemic, which means we don't have to keep track of how many people are dying from it anymore. Just look at those numbers! It's only killed 2,000 people in America this week! That's basically nobody! We're back to normal!
If everything starts tasting like rotting meat for the rest of your life, it's probably something else. If you experience brain fog or you forget things constantly or you're tired all the time after even minor physical activity, it's just because you're lazy. Yes every other virus you ever get will also be increasingly worse but that's just a coincidence. Those viruses just happen to be exponentially worse now.
Plus, those few weeks during the lockdown were terrible for my mental health. I just can't keep living like that, so we have to go back to normal life, which now involves people biting each other and twitching uncontrollably and rotting visibly.
You can't expect the world to wait for you. "Already dead to me," remember?

courting antisemitism
so i recently decided to take a look at the latest stonetoss comics (probably because i love suffering). and while i was expecting some content on the israel palestine conflict, what i did not expect was how... standard it seemed. well, most of it at least, but i'll get to that in a second.
for context, if you don't know what stonetoss is, it's a (poorly drawn) webcomic known for having radical alt-right views - meaning it's incredibly racist, homophobic, transphobic, islamophobic, antisemitic. all that fun stuff.
so while i was expecting to see bad stuff, one of the first things i saw on the topic of israel was this:
Tumblr media
terrible art aside, this comic is making a point that i usually see in left wing circles: that israel is pinkwashing genocide.
curious if there was more like this, i kept looking, and the comic right before that one was this:
Tumblr media
again, this makes points that i usually see in left wing circles. that american healthcare is crazy expensive, that canada tells poor people to commit suicide, and that israel is bombing hospitals.
why does stonetoss, this well known alt-right nutjob, now seem to be bringing up left-wing talking points?
curious, i kept going deeper:
Tumblr media
well this is... odd. clearly, stonetoss is trying to say that israel is on another level of bad, even worse than russia, iran, and north korea. i can possibly see someone on the left making the argument that the russian invasion of ukraine isn't as bad as what israel is doing in gaza, or that at least north korea isn't invading any other countries, but... iran??? the country that has a police force designed to enforce religious law, and gets away with murdering women who do not properly cover their hair? the country that props up paramilitary groups in countries all over the middle east, including lebanon, yemen, and yes, palestine?? that's completely ridiculous
but, given how much more israel is in the news nowadays than any of these other countries, i could see why someone would buy this
and now, we're starting to get to the crux of what stonetoss is trying to do. when someone sees this, they might be inclined to agree with it. they might begin to think that israel is the worst country on the planet
and that might not seem so bad at first. but the more you hate israel, especially irrationally, the more you feel allowed to dehumanize those who support it. the more you might be willing to agree with this comic, which came out two days prior to the one above
Tumblr media
this comic says that jews, as a whole have no desire to exist with other people. it is blatantly antisemitic
i'm sure you could imagine some young leftist who sees the comics above this one and thinks, "this guy makes some good points". and then, when they get to this one, they might realize that this is antisemitism
or, they may not.
and that would start them down the road to becoming an antisemite.
this is what stonetoss and other alt-right nutjobs are hoping to achieve. to take left wing fury at israel, and direct it at jews.
we saw it with those neo-nazis at the palestine rally, and we're seeing it again here.
and if you've found yourself agreeing with what stonetoss has said so far, i would like you to see the last comic stonetoss put out before october 7th:
Tumblr media
this horrifically racist comic is in reference to an environmental activist who was murdered by a black man in early october. this blatantly racist garbage is the kind of stuff stonetoss usually puts out.
but as soon as october 7th happened? these were his next two comics:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
stonetoss completely changed the comic's tone as soon as the current crisis started. why?
to get as many people as possible to get on board with hating jews.
and i know many of you might be thinking that "well, everyone knows that stonetoss is racist garbage. nobody is going to fall for this"
except, as we saw with the neo-nazis at the rally for palestine, it's not always that obvious who the antisemites are and who is just rallying for peace. they are often a lot better at disguising it than stonetoss is.
AND EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE AWARE OF THAT
EVERYONE, no matter HOW much experience you have, can fall victim to propoganda. EVERYONE needs to be aware of what people around them are saying, and able to pick out hateful rhetoric, because even the stuff that is just kind of toeing the line of what's hateful is still putting your foot in the door
be cautious, everyone. and stomp out hate where you see it.

I was talking to a friend about religion and I think I must have messed it up in her eyes because she felt the need to clarify how complicated the topic was, especially for her. I suppose I made it sound like I wasn’t taking it seriously? Or my answer to “what would you consider God to be” was too simple?
We’re both queer, and for her coming to terms with her identity drove her away from a religion that hated her. But for me, having been raised atheist, it made me consider what it might mean to have a soul? That I could feel I was who I was inherently. But I didn’t mention any of that, we just talked about God, which is kind of the least important part of my beliefs. But I’m left feeling like I insulted her struggles with religion by having a simplistic view of it.
#and I who has never had to struggle with anything#not really#I’ve only ever suffered through empathy and I don’t know if that counts#if it can bring about the sort of insight that can only be gained through hardship I mean#or if those insights are even transferable between topics#sure I have a deepened respect and value for community and healthcare after witnessing how horrific the lives of those I love are without it#but does that transfer to religion? maybe only those who have been really harmed by religion can understand it#but surely organized religion is different from the study of how the world might truly work#isn’t it the desire for control over its followers that make’s religion so terrible so often?#God had nothing to do with that#idk idk I just feel like I’ve done something wrong#she didn’t even insinuate I had#really#she was probably just talking about her own experiences#and happened to mention it was a complicated topic#but I can’t help but feel that my own thoughts are a bit insulting compared to someone with ‘real’ (I mean negative) life experience#it’s probably that same fallacy of ‘everyone else is suffering immensely#making them a part of Real#Deep Life#whereas I am doing alright#and usually doing alright#and therefore shallow and have shallow experiences and ought not have a place in any discussion#‘#that nonsense pops up a lot when I’m being irrational don’t mind me#well glad we got to the bottom of that one#I always feel weird liking people’s personal posts but if you read this far you are welcome to like. I will feel validated
