John Peel's 50th - Subterranea, London, England, August 30, 1989
I don't know how you celebrated your 50th birthday — if you've made it that far. But John Peel certainly celebrated his semi-centennial in style, with none other than House of Love, the Wedding Present and the Fall playing absolutely killer sets in honor of the legendary DJ. House of Love sound elegant and reverberant, the Wedding Present bring the strum und drang and Mark E. Smith and co. are righteously insane. Totally Peel-y, if you ask me. Listen in and turn it up.

i think ultimately the core of what irritates me about the t swift craze is that she’s constantly getting props for things that … literally aren’t true. people act like she’s self made, she is not. people act like she’s a social activist, she is not. people act like she’s constantly going to great lengths to uplift other women, she is not. like if people were just like yeah i love her music :) then okay! but it’s the constanttttt applause and praise and worshipping for things that are just patently false that really makes me feel insane

talking to preschoolers is awesome bc they have not fully differentiated stories into 'true stories' and 'imaginary stories' yet so you will tell them about something that happened you once (coyote came out of a bush right in front of you and got startled) and they will tell you about how one time their house was full of coyotes in every room 'including five in the garage' and they're not even like, aware i think of the idea that they are technically 'lying'. they are simply telling stories about coyotes bc its time to tell stories about coyotes.

No, actually I will never be over Annabeth throwing her knife into the ocean hoping Percy will notice and come help only to have Percy, king among boyfriends, make the most dramatic ass entrance, knocking out attackers with a giant wave, ocean waves cascading behind him as he casually walks up onto the beach to Annabeth, hands her her knife and says “I think you dropped this.” Fucking legend.

The Closer
Boredom came barreling down the stairs, the lump grating against the wall of his throat as he swiveled his head and nailed his sight on the clock on the wall that’s chiming five o’clock, can’t be right, looked down on his wrist, his digital watch echoing the same time and red numbers saying that his heart is beating off the charts. I’m too late.
Boredom peered through the window, his neighbors…

why aren't there more mysteries that take place in nursing homes & retirement communities. i want to watch a group of deranged retirees-cum-amateur-detectives combine their powers of:
decades of life experience
boredom-fueled busybody shamelessness
access to the most gossipy next-door-neighbors in existence
"I am too old to be arrested and/or give a shit" attitude
and solve crimes. this should be an enormous subgenre.
