@whcwashe requested starter
the weather is warm but not overly so, sun bright in the sky for the last three days. it’s summer with no school for a ten-year-old rose to attend or homework for her to complete. frankly, rose is restless as any kid would be cooped up in the mill house while her father was off doing something important with zed. they hadn’t told her what they were doing, only that they were going to stop something bad from happening. something bad like what had happened to her mother. and so, rose had remained home with liv for company. a fact which rose didn’t mind. she liked liv, always had. “liv, i know it’s a bit of a drive but... can we go to the beach?” hopeful glint shines within her dark hues, expression being laid on thick.

"Before hell impaled and toasted us, writhing over the roaring fires of our own inadequacies. Then we were a team. Frank on holiday from trouble in California, and Judith, who I met at the North Beach Ashram, studying tantric yoga. Anne-Marie, the lonely psychic; fat, forty and secretely in love with me. Ritchie Simpson-- computer freak, deadhead and quantum magic pioneer. Gary Lester-- musician, counter culture clone and small-time conjurer. Benjamin, the spooky twelve-year-old genious and encyclopedia of arcana-- and me."

Hey!! I’ve been asking nnt bloggers about what kind of landmarks and things they would put in the demon realm since I'm making a big project on that! If you have anything you’d like me to put in there let me know :D
Hello! In the parts of the that we have into the demon realm in, the rocks/landscape usually seem to be red/purple, so the sand, beaches and soil would probably be a pinkish colour. The demons would also have to be really heat resistant in order to use hellblaze the way they do, and another of them seem to have very little clothing so the demon realm is probably really hot. This would mean most of the fauna and wildlife there would have to be realay hardy in order to survive. I'm thinking cacti, baobab tree, palm tree, generally more tough than other plants. Also probably really large desserts, plains stuff like that.
There's also the matter that alot of the demons we see are absolutely gargantuan, so the fauna would also have to be MASSIVE to feed these guys. Our tallest trees are probably their shortest ones. When forests have lots of trees like that, you often can't see the sun, it just goes completely black. This .means that most 9f the animals there would have more nocturnal feature such as echolocation, heat vision, night vision and better senses of smell. This would probably go for the demons too.
Also most of the planets in our solar system have more than one moon, we just got really unlucky, so I'm thinking that more likely than not, the demon realm has more than one moon, probably lots.
Also I think it would be cool if there was evidence of the goddesses attacks, just giant spots of forest or rock that have been completely bleached of all colour. Also I'm thinking the goddesses would have tried contaminating the water/spreading chemicals somaybe some neon green rivers, really fucked up wild life with sooo many legs. Also again bigger people need bigger amounts of food/water, so some really big canyons too. Baby demons may have trouble controlling their magic, so most houses would be made out of stone, also generally not a smart idea to have a wooden house when your literally made out if fire. Palace probably has lots of cool detailed carvings though. Also you should put pomegranates in there, don't ask me why pomegranates just fit really well in the demon realm. Hope I didn't ramble too much.

Head Canons Crowley
Just a small list to get them out there. Some devised with @v0litioncheck.
** Crowley does eat but very rarely. It falls under a fairly common theme in some of my head canons for him as "snake tendencies". He tends toward larger meals, after which he will take a lengthy nap. Usually around two days otherwise he's extremely cranky.
** In continuing with that theme, Crowley runs fairly cold. He greatly enjoys summer and may be found on top of high buildings in London basking in the sun (beaches are too crowded and people stare too much).
** Modern times (the 20th and 21th century) have been kind for Crowley, who really isn't too interested in doing his job. At least in the way Hell likes it done. He prefers a bit of chaos and bad vibes to murder and mayhem. Oh he'll inadvertently cause a death without too much of a twinge of guilt, but being directly involved just isn't his style. Anyway, humans do quite enough atrocities on their own, and all it takes is for a clever demon to keep abreast of the news and take the credit for inspiring the nastier bits.
** When Crowley was cast from heaven, his original name was stripped from him and he had to rename himself. Astonishingly, he was very bad at this. (Sorry, it never ceases to amaze me that in the same book/tv series we have a demon creative and with a powerful enough will to keep a burning car running to his destination yet calls himself Crawley and later changes it to Crowley which is barely more than an intonation change. That's just so funny to me. Definitely from Terry ahem.)
** A large portion of classical paintings and statues of Lucifer are actually modeled off Crowley, who did it all for a laugh after frequently being mistaken for him. Obviously he got in very big trouble down below when the big boss found out, but Lucifer let him off with a warning when Crowley explained how they sewed the seed of doubt and/or lust in the hearts of the devout (because you see, many paintings and statues of Lucifer, even ones in churches, are very sexy and very nude).
** While both demons and angels have the ability to shapeshift, there is some bureaucratic nonsense involved dependent on rank and severity of the change. When Aziraphale and Crowley posed as Brother Francis and Nanny Ashtoreth they were trying to fly under the radar of both Heaven and Hell and instead fashioned costumes (mostly Aziraphale's idea and design because he's dabbled in a bit of stagecraft). During that time, they co-habitate in a boathouse on the Dowlings' property aside from on days off, when they go to London to be themselves for awhile.
** After long consideration and a careful bit of picking through Christian study, secular, and woo (New Age) pages (not fun! I swear Google has gotten fucking worse when it comes to research), and having been given one last clue in a late episode in series two, I've settled on Crowley having been a Seraph before he fell. Most of this decision is to due to snake imagery used in how they're described and it's a pretty good reason why he's stupid powerful. Seraphs are the highest rank in the angelic hierarchy and depending on who you ask, Lucifer was a Seraph before he fell (other sources claim him as Cherub, so idek. Judeo-Christian mythology is a fucking mess). Also a very good theory about why Hell lets him fuck around and do whatever he pleases for the most part. He has been punished for doing too ostentatious acts of kindness, but apparently not so much that he is ever demoted out of temptations. Perhaps having been the snake to corrupt Eve is too big of a gold star in his file to truly justify a demotion. Or he's just such a massive, willful pain in the ass that no one likes to deal with him for much more than a decade or two.
** So...Crowley's human identity appears to be vaguely criminal and definitely dodgy hard bastard. Because all roads lead me to Hellblazer eventually, yes Crowley does know John Constantine and they DO NOT like each other. Generally the idea is that they're bullshit artists that can smell the shit on one another. However they do have an understanding not to fuck around in each other's business.
** Crowley is single handedly keeping several record shops open around London because sometimes he needs to listen to something other than Queen.

Obviously narrowing down a 300 Issue Run into just 10 options is hard, but I tried. Will probably have to make a second poll for all the great standalone/one shots I missed.

So I was binge scrolling through the blog like I do and I saw the topic of John sleeping around and as MilfZatanna knows I’m reading through Hellblazer. I’m only on issue 17 but I want to say that John has only had like one one night stand, I think after Zed died (correct me if I’m wrong). I mean John does sleep a lot with the women he’s INVOLVED WITH. I think he’s only been with two women so far, Zed and Marj. It’s clear he cares deeply for them (I mean where I am in the comic John is literally looking for Marj’s kidnapped daughter Mercury). I think it’s very telling of John’s character that in issue 13 he has a whole dream where he and this random woman on the beach have a whole life together in a nuclear apocalypse. Like she gives birth to his child, even tho the child is a two headed seal, and he is so distraught when the seal is killed while trying to get to the ocean.
The whole “john whores around” recurring fanon is bc ppl have a diminutive understanding of his bisexuality. Like you’ve pointed out, john isn’t out here picking up a different chick each night. And if he did, the whole “Constantine hoes around for the justice league” would still be highly inaccurate and annoying. And John genuinely likes forming connections! Whether or not he can keep them is the question lol, but he likes to have casual partners and date people for a little bit. And he cares deeply for anyone he’s ever gotten official with, that’s his thing. John doesn’t love sparingly, and his whole tragedy is that it isn’t enough. It denies him his sensitivity and yearning to be loved and accepted to portray him as the guy that fucks sharks for fun.

Do you have any recommendations for a first time Hellblazer reader?
Yes, of course! I mean, I say just start at the beginning, if you have the time and inclination. I know 300 issues is a lot, and you don’t have to read all of them. I think the first 3 major writers are the best, or at least my favorite. That would be Jamie Delano, Garth Ennis and Paul Jenkins. But that’s still over 100 issues.
So if you want something little more pared down to get started, here’s a few, with link to a site where you can read them:
From Hellblazer:
1. Hunger (issues #1 and #2) These just set the tone for the book and the character. Starts with a shocker of a story.
2. Newcastle (issue #11). This one’s obvious. It’s the big backstory issue.
3. At the Beach (issue #13)-  I can’t describe this one without giving it away. It’s the trippiest, weirdest story, but a fucking classic.
4. Hold Me (issue #27)- My ultimate favorite issue, hands down. The ghost of a lonely homeless man haunts London. It’s just a quiet, moving story, which you can read on its own.
6. The Family Man- ( #23-24 and #28-30)- Constantine battles a serial killer
5. The Dead Boy’s Heart (issue #35)- this one is just a great look at how John sees himself.
6. Dangerous Habits (#41-#46)- This is THE Constantine story. It’s the one where he gets lung cancer. This is mandatory reading.
7. Counting to Ten (#51)- John tries to do his laundry. And this is the infamous issue where John’s bisexuality is confirmed.
7. Rake at the Gates of Hell (#78-#83)- John has his final battle with a very pissed off Satan.
8. Critical Mass (#92-#96) This is the resolution of Astra’s story.
That’s just a few, but honestly, if you have the time I say just start at #1 and keep going. The great thing about the original Hellblazer is that it’s self contained, there’s no crossovers or anything like that. And it moves in real time, so the characters age.
One thing to note is that there are technically different versions of Constantine in comics. When we say Hellblazer, or original or Vertigo John we mean the guy that started in Swamp Thing and then had the solo title that ran for 300 issues. When I say JL Dark John I mean the one who exists in the DC Comics universe with all the supers, he’s been a thing since circa 2011. I always recommend the original one, but that’s just me.
You could check out the 30th Anniversary Special that has some of the most famous issues. Plus an essay written by Sting.
And finally, there is a new ongoing comic from the Sandman Universe that is technically a continuation/reboot of the original Hellblazer. It is very, very good. And the good thing is you can absolutely jump in right now without having read the old comics. You start here and then continue on with the series here.
Happy reading! And come back and talk to me when you start, I love discussing these stories.
