in bitter snow, were corona and saporia always hostile to each other? what was the tipping point that lead to war?

so like

WAYYYYYY back circa 20,000 SE, about nine thousand years prior to bitter snow when corona was first emerging as a nation—there was definitely some tension due to competition over resources and like basic lifestyle differences (early corona was & still is very agrarian whereas saporia has always tilted heavily towards hunting/fishing) and i imagine also intermittent quibbling between the coronan humaic cult and the saporian cult of char malach which, ironically, would have largely been mediated by the thorn syconium kfjdjsk

but on the whole that was all just kind of—neighbors stuff. sometimes your elderly neighbor throws a rager in her backyard while you’re trying to sleep on midsummer night and it’s annoying but yknow, whatever, she also sells you great wine at a discount it balances out. & like there was a coronan branch of the thorn syconium and honestly probably the splendorous temple too (not the barrows though; rip to cathay she’s unpopular) even though the humaic cult had clear hegemony

the thing about humaic cults though is they tend to wither and become increasingly secular over time because huma… doesn’t like people and is kind of a dick about it when people start worshiping her because Go Away Stop Bothering Me I’m Gardening and that tends to correlate with growing cultural distrust or wariness of magic

which is where the deep cultural tensions btwn corona and saporia start to grow from, as corona matures as a nation and its humaic cult evolves into the more abstract heliolatry of the modern sunlit temple

anyway demanitus is born right on the cusp of this cultural paradigm shift and his, um, altercations with and eventual banishment of zhan tiri and subsequent crusade against all gods massively accelerated this trend, destroyed the coronan tradition of humaic sorcery, and put corona on a trajectory for outright fear and hatred towards saporia while also, you know, yeeting the most important of saporia’s three gods out of existence—i don’t think this has been explicitly spelled out in bitter snow but the the year is 1673 PE and zhan tiri has been in the void for sixteen hundred seventy-three years and this is Not A Coincidence, because the calendar is saporian and as far as saporians are concerned the current epoch is just We Are Waiting For Zhan Tiri To Come Back And Wipe You Off The Map

so… since zhan tiri’s banishment there have been A LOT of wars, both major and minor, between corona and saporia, fueled by these huge and deep-seated cultural grievances and exacerbated by other economic and political clashes, with the most recent and devastating being the big one ~300 years ago that ended with shampanier’s betrayal and the conquest of saporia
