Can you do a headcanon of the Volturi guards with a human mate that is chaos in human form. The littlest task get blown up into a big deal just cause their human was somehow involved.
You know that part from emperors new groove where he’s like “no touchy!”
Okay well this is me with headcanons “No humans!”
So because I said so, this will be someone who is very chaotic and makes things much more of a spectacle than necessary
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
Alright so in these scenarios babygirl you cannot control your newborn strength or speed and, much to everyone’s shock, the clumsiest vampire to exist. They all thought it would calm down after the newborn years were over but it takes you decades and you still have problems every now and again
Alec
You are stressing the poor boy out
Like he’s really tempted to sedate you just so you slow down
Broke a door because you opened it too hard? After the third time he’s probably going to yell at you and the things he will say will be far from nice and understanding
Will probably make you cry and only then will he try and find a solution
Gets you to go on missions so you stop wrecking their home, does not want anyone else upset at you
Jane
You’re gonna learn quick that you better slow down and be careful or you will get shock collared by her gift
I want to say that she tries to be patient at first but she, like her brother is just not that
She will try and talk to you about it
And to be fair she said it would mainly feel like a tingle so it’s more of a warning that you’re starting to move too quick or you look like you’re about to break something
But you know when you’re talking and you get really excited about what you’re talking about and someone says, why are you talking so loud? So you get kinda quiet… Yeah it feels a lot like that
Demetri
Puts all of things that cannot be broken away
You are not allowed in the library, like seriously he will give you tests to make sure you won’t break anything
Tries to work out most of the extra energy and chaos by taking you out of the castle
Lots of nighttime activities, Felix is debating tearing his ears out himself, twins want to kill you both
Demetri tries to find things you can do well so you shouldn’t get into too much trouble but regardless you better hope you’re gifted because Aro is debating kicking you out
Felix
Probably the most patient as usual, he had trouble co trolling his own strength as well
But thanks to that he knows how to get you distracted and mostly out of trouble
You’re the training exercise Guinea pig now, respectfully
You tend to break things on accident so when you try and cause havoc you’re a force to be reckoned with so you keep everyone on their feet.
Also asks you to go on missions so you don’t get into too much trouble, and thanks to your mate there’s not much complaining it he’s not risking it

Goodbyes ~ Heidi Volturi One-Shot
Tumblr media
A/N ~ Please excuse any formatting or grammar issues, as I am on mobile! Also. It seems like every writer has a different idea of the best face claim for Heidi. So with that I will leave her features up to your interpretation. This was something new for me to write so if you had any feedback I would love to hear it! Thank you for reading.
Summary ~ A small moment and first kiss between Heidi and her mate.
~~~
Your time with the Volturi had overall been very short, compared to the length of its other members. Many of which, were very welcoming and sympathetic to the death of your creator. Who happened to be the reason you stumbled into the ancient vampire coven.
Many have said to to be a blessing and a curse.
Watching your mother figure dismembered and burned in front of your eyes was absolutely traumatic. But it lead to you another new immoral life and family. A doubled edged sword, some would say. Either way you learned a very important lesson that day.
The Volturi Do Not Give Second Chances.
It is and forever will be a sentence that floats around in your mind. It does even now as you are walking back to the private room you now call your own.
Heidi, one of the most beautiful creatures you’ve met, trailed along beside you with her arm looped around yours. Her stories of the world, and upcoming fishing trip filled your ears and echoed down the never ending halls.
You had hardly talked since your creator died. But Heidi didn’t mind talking enough for the both of you. Or taking the lead in conversations others have tried to start.
Heidi had lost her original coven in a very similar fashion to yourself. So it made since for her to comfort you, and try to be the rock to keep you grounded. When she was here and not out fishing, she never left your side. Which is something you would be forever grateful for.
Every other member had introduced themselves and offered advice and companionship. But Heidi was something special. A comforting presence. A missing puzzle piece you never knew you were missing.
As the both of you approached your room, a small hint of sadness began pooling in your chest. Heidi was about to embark on another fishing trip. Or as you joked one time a pizza delivery run. While it was very necessary to keep the coven fed, nothing could make you want to leave her side.
Standing at the door there was a moment of silence. You couldn’t help but to widen your smile as your eyes met Heidi’s. They were a dark red, with a small mix of a lighter red around her irises. Quite often there was a shimmer in them, especially when you were around. Her eyelashes were dark, full, and curled at a perfect angle. Vampires do not need to blink, but Heidi never missed a moment to bat them in any situation.
But not this time. The prolonged eye contact was almost like a silent conversation, a final moment before goodbye.
Parting ways with anyone had become difficult since your creator had passed. Heidi seemed to take pieces of you with her every trip and every mission that required her out of the castle. You wouldn’t be whole again until she was home.
It was you who broke the eye contact first. Slipping your arm out from under hers, only to wrap both of them around her shoulders.
While you had hugged her many times, this time you couldn’t help but nuzzle your head into the crook of her neck. Her scent seemed to be the most strongest here. You took slow breaths into her, savoring her closeness and her unique smell. Who knows how long it she would be gone for this time?
You wondered if Heidi was having similar thoughts at this moment. It seemed so with her actions. She was holding you by the waist, lightly rubbing small circles where her hands rested. Her cheek rested against the top of your head, taking slow deep breaths just as you are.
“Goodbyes are never easy darling, especially with us.” Heidi whispered. Her voice and the proximity of her would have made you dizzy if you were still human. As gently as she could, her slim hands traveled up your arms to cup your face. Then you were lost in her eyes again. Her thumbs brushed lovingly against your cheeks as she pressed your foreheads together.
“Just remember the hello again makes it all worth it.” Heidi finished with a dazzling smile.
You could see the longing in her eyes, past the strong facade she was putting on for you. A small sigh escaped your lips. You both had been dancing around the feelings that had been there since you two had met. Moments like these intensified them.
Taking a risk, you placed your cool hands on top of hers. This much affection had been new, while hugs and hand holding were as far as you both had gone. This closeness was so new. And you didn’t want to overstep, or even make Heidi uncomfortable with your actions.
But Heidi was taking risks too. Closing her eyes, she leaned into to you.
Closer.
And Closer.
Your eyes closed a second before your lips finally met. There were no words to describe the first kiss between you. Heidi’s lips were full and soft against yours. A million times better than you’ve imagined many nights alone in your room. But this was real. This reality will forever best anything you could come up with in your head.
Heidi had to leave after that first kiss. Several more followed in-between her good byes and promises to talk when she arrived home.
You both couldn’t wait for that ‘Hello Again.’.
Alec Volturi x human!Reader: Anniversary Quilt
Warnings: little bit of angst, mostly fluff, non-canon aged Alec, sfw, use of y/n
I walked down the hall of the castle, heading for the library. I had finished the small stack of books in my room and wanted to return them to get some more. As I walked, I noticed Felix and Demetri headed my way. I waved at them and rushed over.
"Hey, guys. What are you doing?"
"We just got done giving our report to the Masters. Now, we have some free time until the next mission," Felix answered.
"What about you?" Demetri asked.
"I need some more books. I finished these ones already," I gestured to the stack in my hand.
"Wow, you go through books fast. Honestly, I'm surprised you haven't read everything in the library in the year you've been here." Demetri commented.
"Hey, to be fair, some of those books are in other languages," I defended myself. I paused as I processed his last words. "Wait, it's been a year already?"
Felix nodded. "Yeah, in two weeks if you want to be technical."
I shoved my books into Felix's hands. "Will you return these for me? I've got something I need to do!" I asked, turning on my heel and running to Heidi's room.
:
I dodged through the guards as I turned down the hall where Heidi's room was. Skidding to a stop in front of her door, I repeatedly banged on it. "Hurry up, hurry up!"
Finally Heidi opened her door, a confused look on her face. "Are you alright, (Y/N)?"
I shook my head. "I need your help and I need it now," I begged.
Heidi nodded and ushered me into her room. "Are you going to tell me what's going on?"
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. "In two weeks, I'll have been with you guys for a year. In two weeks, it'll have been a year since Alec and I found out we are mates. I want to do something special for him."
Heidi grinned. "So what do you need me to do?"
"I need you to help me sneak out of the castle so I can go shopping. I already have an idea in mind of what I want to do but first I need fabric. And quilt batting. And a sewing machine." I looked at Heidi. "Do we even have a sewing machine here?"
"Talk to Caius. He's the more artistic of the three. As for getting you out of the castle, that's going to be hard. You're still human so the Kings won't want to let you leave. Why don't you write me a list of the fabric and anything else you need and I'll grab it."
"Thank you, Heidi! I want this to be a surprise for Alec so please don't tell him."
"I promise I won't tell. Go write me your list and I'll try and get it while you talk to Caius."
I nodded and went to leave Heidi's room. "Thanks again. I'll bring it by shortly."
As I left her room, I bumped into Alec.
"Hi, love!" I smiled at him.
"Hi, darling. What were you doing with Heidi?" He asked, wrapping an arm around my shoulder.
"Nothing, just a bit of girl talk," I said as we started walking.
"Just girl talk? Because it seems to have your heart beating faster than normal."
I blushed, trying to think of something to throw him off. "Heidi was just telling me about her latest boy-toy. That's all. What are you up to?"
Alec sighed. "The Masters are wanting me to stay back from missions for the time being."
"Oh? Why?"
"They're talking about changing you soon. It's been almost a year, love."
"Right. Speaking of the Masters, I actually need to talk to Master Caius. I'll be back later, love." I pressed a kiss to his cheek and turned to run off. Before I could, Alec grabbed my arm.
"I'll be in the gardens, come find me when you're done."
I nodded and left.
I ran to the throne room and knocked on the doors.
"Come in," Aro's voice rang out.
I opened the doors and entered the room. I stopped just shy of the stairs where the Masters were.
"Ah, young (Y/N). What brings you here?" Aro asked.
"I wanted to talk about my changing. And I also had a question for Master Caius." I took a breath to calm my nerves. Being in the Masters presence was always intense.
"I would like to wait another 2 and a half weeks. I have something special I want to do for Alec since it's been a year since we found each other and I don't my changing to get in the way."
"That sounds reasonable. Alec is lucky to have met you, my dear," Marcus said, smiling.
"If Aro agrees, then I see no problem waiting a little bit longer. But you also had a question for me?" Caius asked.
"Yes." I turned to face him. "Do we have a sewing machine?"
"We do. It's been a minute since it's been used but it should work fine. Why do you need it?" Caius asked.
I grinned sheepishly. "I want to make Alec a quilt. I know you guys don't technically get cold and don't really have a reason for one, but I thought it'd be nice to hand-make Alec something rather than buying something premade."
Marcus let out a chuckle. "I'm sure he'll love it. Caius will show you where the machine is."
Caius stood from his throne and headed towards the doors. "Follow me."
I bowed to the other two kings and made my way towards the third.
"So I need her to get black fabric, dark green fabric, a queen sized black sheet, and extra large batting," I muttered to myself.
"What are you going on about?" Caius asked, not looking back at me.
I jumped, not expecting him to start talking to me. "Oh, Heidi said she'd help me get the stuff I need to make the quilt so I'm making a list."
We turned down a hallway and entered a room on the left. "The machine is in here. There should be some extra things laying around that you can use."
Caius walked in and lit the lanterns. "If that is all, I'll take my leave."
"Yes, thank you Master Caius." I turned and bowed.
Caius nodded and left.
I spotted some paper and a pen. I grabbed some and jotted down the list for Heidi. I took a quick look around, noting where the machine was and some extra fabric laying around. I quickly added a tape measure to my list and left.
I searched the castle for Heidi, wanting to find her before returning to Alec. I finally found her, walking with Demetri.
"Heidi!" I called out, running to her.
"Hey, that took a lot longer than I thought it would," she commented as I handed her the list.
"Sorry. I bumped into Alec once I left your room and I had to come up with something so he wouldn't find out what I'm planning so I said I had to talk to the masters. Then Caius said we did have a sewing machine and he showed me where it is and then I wrote the list and then I came and found you."
"(Y/N). Breathe." Demetri laughed. "So what are you planning? You left in a rush earlier."
"I want to make Alec a quilt for our anniversary," I whispered. I wasn't sure if Alec was still in the gardens and I didn't want to risk him hearing if he wasn't.
Demetri nodded. "Is there anything I can do to help?"
"Help keep Alec away while I work on it? It'll probably take the entire the two weeks with all the cutting and sewing and ironing I need to do."
"Got it. I'll help keep Alec distracted till it's done."
"Thank you!"
"I'll run to the store and get your things. I'll send Demetri to come find you when I have everything." Heidi said, walking off.
"Great. I will go find Alec then and try not spill anything." I smiled and waved goodbye to Demetri.
I found Alec sitting in the gazebo, reading a book. I came up behind him, wrapping my arms around his shoulders.
"Did things go well with the Masters?" He asked, closing his book.
I nodded against his shoulder. "Yeah, I wanted to wait another couple weeks before changing. They agreed."
"Really? Why wait?"
I slid onto the bench beside Alec. "No reason in particular," I lied.
Alec arched his brow. "Are you scared?"
I sighed. "Yeah, kinda. All I've heard since being told I'd have to be change is how much it's going to hurt."
Alec wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me into his side. "It will be painful but I promise I will be by your side through it all."
I smiled and kissed him. "Thank you."
TIMESKIP
It's been two days since Heidi got my fabric and other items and I've managed to get all the cutting done. Now it was onto creating the rows.
I sat on the floor of the sewing room trying to decide on a pattern. Heidi had grabbed some watercolor and marble pattern fabric instead of solid colors which I thought worked really well. "Well, since the queen sheet is black, I could use the green fabric for the outside and use the black to create a heart in the middle," I muttered to myself.
Deciding that was the best way to go, I carefully laid out the pieces on the floor, mapping out how the quilt was going to look. Some of the squares would need to be cut differently but that was going to be too hard.
I grabbed my scissors and started cutting the black and green fabrics that would outline the heart.
"Hey, (Y/N)? Alec is looking for you." Felix said, poking his head in the door.
"Can you distract him? I'm getting ready to sew the squares into rows and I want to finish that tonight," I asked, looking up from my cutting.
"Of course. Good luck." Felix closed the door and I turned back to the fabric.
The last square was cut and the quilt was mapped out once more. I grabbed the first row, sat at the sewing machine and started sewing.
DAY FIVE
The final row had been sewed and I could finally take a break longer than just grabbing something to eat and sleeping. I pushed myself away from the sewing table and stood up. My back and shoulders popped as I stretched, making me sigh in relief.
I left the room and headed to the kitchen. I was craving spaghetti and in the mood to actual cook. I grabbed a pot and a pan and put them on the stove.
I hummed quietly to myself as I grabbed everything I need to start cooking.
"I see someone's out of hiding."
I gasped and spun to face whoever spoke. "Alec! Hi!"
He was leaning against the doorway of the kitchen, looking annoyed.
"So when are you disappearing again?"
I frowned. "In a couple hours. I'm sorry."
Alec scoffed. "What are you even doing? Felix and Demetri won't tell me."
I put the pot of water I was holding on the stove and walked over to my boyfriend. "I promise you'll find out soon but not right now."
I leaned up to kiss his cheek but he pushed me away.
"Sure. I'll see you later. Or not."
I watched as Alec walked away, feeling my heart break. I looked back at the food I was starting to cook and decided to just put everything away.
I had to hurry and finish the quilt before I seriously ruined my relationship.
DAY TEN
It had been a couple days since I last left the sewing room. Felix, Demetri and Heidi had taken turns bringing me food and coaxing me to my room to sleep.
I had finished sewing the rows together yesterday and now it was onto cutting the batting to size.
I laid out the top of the quilt on the floor and rolled the batting on top of that. Grabbing my scissors, I carefully cut the batting to match the quilt top. Once that was done, I grabbed the sheet and laid it next to the rest of the quilt.
Then I placed the batting on top, making sure it was centered and then added the quilt top. I walked over to the sewing table and grabbed the tomato plush that held the pins and needles.
I put a pin in each corner of the blanket and across the outer edge. I was almost done and I couldn't wait to show Alec. He had started avoiding me whenever I left and I couldn't blame him. I could only hope he'd be able to forgive me.
DAY THIRTEEN
It was finally time to sew the border of the quilt. I rubbed my eyes and grabbed the quilt, taking it to the sewing table. The machines gentle purr as it sewed had become a comforting sound during the project. My hands and back ached from all the pinning and sewing and overall bad posture.
Finally. Finally the quilt was done. I carefully folded it and placed it on the table. I sat down on the couch Felix had brought in when I started spending a majority of my time in the room.
My eyes began to droop as I gave in to my exhaustion and I fell asleep.
Alec's POV:
I walked through the castle, wondering what was so important that (Y/N) no longer talked to me. I tried to just forget about it but they would lock themselves in the room for hours on end without saying anything.
Felix and Demetri, even Heidi, kept trying to tell me everything was ok but they wouldn't tell me what they were doing.
I scoffed as I saw Felix and Heidi rushing towards me.
"You need to come see (Y/N)," Heidi said, grabbing my arm.
"Why? If you haven't noticed, they've been avoiding me."
"You numbskull, they've been working on something for you. And now it's been like 36 hours since I've seen them leave that room." Heidi scolded.
My expression soften. "36 hours?"
Felix nodded. "They wanted to do something special for your anniversary tomorrow. I won't tell you what they did but you need to come with us and get her to eat a proper meal and get some sleep."
I nodded. "Lets go then."
I followed Heidi and Felix to the room (Y/N) had been holing themselves in.
When we got there, (Y/N) was asleep on the couch. I walked over and knelt beside them.
"Darling? It's time to wake up now."
(Y/N)'s POV:
I slowly opened my eyes, scared the voice I heard was just a dream. Once my eyes adjusted, I saw Alec kneeling beside me with Felix and Heidi standing behind him.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes.
"I've come to get you. Heidi and Felix told me you've been in here the last three days."
Quickly, I sat up, realizing just what was going on. "No, no, no, you can't be in here! I haven't wrapped it yet."
Tears filled my eyes at the thought of ruining the surprise.
"Love, it's okay. I haven't looked around. I just came to get you. I've been worried," Alec said, trying to calm me down.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry I've been avoiding you. I just wanted to do something special for you," I explained, wiping my eyes.
Alec moved to sit next to me on the couch. "I'm sorry too. I should have been more considerate towards you. I was hurt when you started avoiding me. I should have tried to talk to you instead of avoiding you as well."
I wrapped my arms around his waist and hugged him. "We both could've communicated better. We'll do better from now on."
I felt Alec lean down and kiss the top of my head. "We will."
"You're surprise is on the sewing table. If you still want it," I told him, pulling back.
"Of course I do, love. You made it for me after all."
I smiled at him and walked over to the table, grabbing the quilt. Walking back to him, I set it in his lap. "I made it in our favourite colors."
Alec stood up and let the blanket unfurl. There was messed up stitches and some rows were slightly off but it was finished. Alec dropped the blanket on the couch and grabbed me, twirling me in the air.
"I love it. Thank you."
I hugged him again, resting my head on his shoulder. "You're welcome. I'm glad you like it."
Alec set me down and pressed a kiss to my forehead. "It's perfect. I love you."
"I love you, too."
Bonus:
"Great! Now go get some proper food, (Y/N), and go to sleep in your own bed," Heidi exclaimed, throwing her hands in the air.
"Alright, alright, fine! You win! Let's get out of here," I said, laughing.
Alec grabbed his quilt in one hand and grabbed mine in the other. We followed Heidi and Felix out of the room, happy things were normal again.
Yandere Volturi Guards Reactions To You Attempting To Escape:
WARNINGS: Yandere, running away, torture, angst, mature language, blackmail, manipulation, toxic relationship, seduction, etc.
SUMMARY: You tried to run away from your kidnapper lover but your attempt failed and now you have to face the consequences of your actions. Problem is, how will your beloved yandere react to it and what are the punishments that lie ahead for you?
AUTHOR'S NOTE: Honestly, I wanted to make this have more than just Felix, Jane, Alec, Heidi and Demetri but I don't know the entire background and personalities of the other Volturi guards, so perhaps next time when i have more information about them. I imagine Elizabeth Gillies as Heidi, but it's fine if you imagine her as someone else! Also, Felix's and Alec's actions are similar to each other but they are not exactly the same.
MASTERLIST: Feel free to check out my other works! :)
-----
FELIX VOLTURI AKA THE EXECUTIONER
Tumblr media
Felix tries to be understanding of your actions but he ends up being sad since he has done everything he could to make you happy and you still wanted to leave him after all this time. Demetri was the one to find you attempting to escape and managed to get you back to Volterra, but for some reasons, Demetri being the one to catch you trying to escape actually makes Felix feel worse than if he was the one to catch you himself. Felix just gave you space at first, only watching you from a distance, before he started giving you gifts and do small things that he knows you would appreciate. He was doing everything he could to make you stay. It was all geniune and you could see that as well. You probably end up feeling guilty in the end and agreed to continue to stay with him. However, to ensure that you wouldn't try to run away anymore, Felix would be stricter with security measures and made sure that there's a guard who's always secretly watching you from a distance at all times.
DEMETRI VOLTURI AKA THE CASANOVA
Tumblr media
You tried to get away from Demetri Volturi? The best tracker in the whole fucking world? You must have been really bloody insane, confident or just quite desperate. There's nothing else left to be said. This man can literally track you anywhere and everywhere. He knows where you are at all times, not just because of his tracking gift, but also because of his vampire senses. And even if you did try to escape him while he's on a mission, he will always know how to find you and get you back in his arms again. He usually doesn't take your escapes seriously and almost think of it as a game of hide and seek or a challenge of some sort but at times when he does take it seriously, he gets a bit stricter with you afterwards and made sure that a guard is with you all the time.
ALEC VOLTURI AKA THE "NUMB" WITCH TWIN
Tumblr media
You would usually try to escape while Alec is on a mission far away from Volterra, so it was always another guard who catches you trying to escape or even sneak out to just have some relaxation, most of the time it's Demetri or Felix. At first, Alec only stayed silent the whole time while he's always near you, before he starts giving you gifts and do small but sweet gestures that he knows you would appreciate, similar to Felix. However, unlike Felix, Alec's gifts and sweet gestures aren't geniune at all. They are all just part of his scheme to guilt trip you into staying with him. He would indirectly make you think that you are the one at fault. But if manipulation doesn't work with you, then he knows a few other extreme ways that does.
JANE VOLTURI AKA THE "PAIN" WITCH TWIN
Tumblr media
Jane is furious. Very fucking furious. It certainly didn't make it any better that she was the one who had caught you trying to run away. Jane's solution to deal with your behaviour is through torture, but she would most likely not use her gift on you. Most likely. It depends on the situation entirely and Jane's mood as well. However, Jane will definitely force you into isolation in your room for weeks, perhaps even months if you continue to go against her. She would not allow anyone to go near your room, not even to deliver your meals. Jane will be the only one to do everything that's related to you. Not even his brother, Alec, has visited you once during your isolation. You will either break or kneel to her, it is all up to you. On a side note: she would probably force you into isolation a little longer than she had planned merely for fun, even if you were already begging her to let you out.
HEIDI VOLTURI AKA THE SEDUCTRESS
Tumblr media
Heidi would be furious and annoyed as well if her darling mate tried to escape her. She was the one to catch you trying to escape when she noticed your scent lingering a little in the group of tourists she was leading in. She left to investigate and saw you hurrying into town. Heidi was a little more furious than she would be if you had attempted to escape on a regular day. Why? Well, you interrupted her during her fucking job, that's why. It will take a bit of time for her to forgive you but when she does, she will use her gift on you and attempt to seduce you. You will have a hard time resisting her, but if you somehow manage to resist her, then Heidi will have no other choice than to get help from Corrin. She will get her to mend the relationship between the both of you and Corrin will also make you forget about any doubts you have of Heidi throughout the relationship.
ALEC VOLTURI & JANE VOLTURI AKA THE WITCH TWINS
Tumblr media
You had a yandere Alec or a yandere Jane, now imagine having a yandere Alec and a yandere Jane and trying to run away from them. Well, no one can help you now from their wrath, perhaps not even the masters, not like they would be paying much attention to the well being of the humans in their castle though. Alec is more "merciful" than his sister and will persuade her to give you a slightly lesser torturing punishment, but it's a little hard for her to do, especially since she was always the one to catch you doing things that the twins had forbidden you to do. Eventually, Jane settled on using your loved ones to blackmail you into staying with them. You were bloody terrified and agreed to stay, while Alec would be trying to "make up" to you for their actions afterwards by doing grand things that you would be completely in love with, whether it's to make sure your loved ones stays in a luxurious new home or anything that makes you momentarily forget about what they had done.
Do you think Heidi and the Volturi would look at the Titanic sinking and go "Hrm, a cruise ship disaster, that's a good way to get a lot of humans and make them disappear"?
Like maybe not regularly but if they had an emergency "we need 1500 people as fast as possible because I guess we're throwing a big feast idk"?
Oh god no.
The first rule to making 1500 people disappear is you don't make 1500 people disappear. You physically can't, at no point in history have 1500 people been able to disappear without people noticing. The reason we know so many painstaking details about the RMS Titanic, who was where when and exactly how the ship was built, is that a massive investigation was launched into how the ship sank. You'll remember the Malaysian Airline disaster a few years back, and you remember it because of the amount of attention and resources that were poured into uncovering what had happened.
In times past you might have been able to make away with a ship more easily and have it be noticed later, because the absence of wireless communication systems meant a ship not making it to port could simply mean they were delayed. Even then, though, people would notice and it would attract a lot of attention. The SS Waratah, which departed for Cape Town from Durban in July of 1909 and was expected to reach her destination on the 29th of July, had people looking for her on August 1st even if she wasn't reported officially missing until much later. An inquiry was launched the next year, with an emphasis on "Why haven't we found anything?". This was a 211 passenger casualty: imagine the inquiry, the search effort, for a 1500 passenger ship.
Even with the RMS Titanic many of the dead had worn life vests, several hundred people were recovered in the months after the disaster. There were bodies sighted around the place the SS Waratah had last been seen, though none were recovered. Point being, what's lost at sea is not always lost at sea. Heidi would have to create a record of her 1500 people having been aboard the ship she intends to sink, without them actually being on board or else she has to somehow ensure none of them will float to the surface after the fact.
You'll notice the ships on this wiki site generally have a few things in common: they had a lot of passengers and they were not expected to be lost. A fishing boat might be lost without attracting much surprise, this was something people knew to expect. During wartime, doubly so.
A ship containing any number of passengers, though, that wasn't expected to be lost, that will have people talking about it, investigating, trying to find out what happened even if we go back a few centuries. In the modern age, the search would be on every headline.
The Volturi would not be able to keep the secret for any amount of time if they attempted anything like this.
I saw that your requests were open?? Could I please request a fic for our lovely Felix?
Anything domestic in terms of how he would be privately with his mate? You can let your imagination run wild, I just need for Felix fluff in my life
Much love! 🤍
Thank you for your request ! Felix and fluff? You sure know very well what I enjoy to write, dear anon. It is a pleasure to fullfill this request for you :) I hope you will enjoy it !
Domestic Life with Felix - Romantic Evening
You were such a dreamy little thing; Felix was so grateful to have you in his eternal life. It was a nice change in his life, ever since you had taken his bloody hands in yours, kissing the knuckles of your true and loyal knight. He couldn’t have wished for a more loving mate, and he was now looking forward to every moment spent with you. Like now, after a day full of duties and hard work.
You had spent a good part of the day reading in the library, and the rest of the afternoon knitting your latest project while keeping Heidi company. Felix had promised to join you before you went for dinner. And as he promised, right before you were starting to get hungry Felix entered your shared quarters. You welcomed him like usual, with an adoring look in your eyes and a bright smile. Your Felix was back home in your arms!
You gave him a warm hug, and you felt him hide his face in the crook of your neck, gently kissing it. The two of you stayed like that for a little while, you knew he needed this peace and quiet after a long day at work, being one of the most important Volturi guard was not an easy task.
Once he broke the hug, your Felix led you to the kitchen installed in your temporary human quarters so that he could prepare dinner for you. You had stated many times that you could prepare your own food, but you had learnt to know that he loved the domestic aspect of it, so you quickly gave up, instead enjoying cooking with him. The fact that he was also a better cook than you achieved to convince you.
Now it was something he was looking forward to, to see your face light up as you would eat your favorite food that he prepared with love just for you.
Tonight was no exception, Felix lifted you and sat you on the counter, preparing your dinner, chatting and laughing, stealing kisses from your lips from time to time, and letting you taste whatever you expressed the want to.
Once dinner was ready, he set up the table, served you and sat with you. The first time he did, you thought it would be awkward to be the only one eating, but dinner time quickly revealed itself as a nice bonding moment for the two of you, to exchange about different subjects, and tonight was no exception.
Once you were done, Felix did the dishes, while you changed into your sleepwear, also brushing your teeth, to keep at bay the temptation of ice cream, that much sugar before going to bed was never doing you any good.
Tonight, you wanted to see Labyrinth again, and since Felix didn’t mind David Bowie and liked to see you happy, he obliged.
When you got back to the living room, the movie was ready to start and Felix handed you your favorite blanket, before snuggling with you and holding you tight. It was his favorite thing, he once told you, to hold you in his arms. It made him feel like your knight in shiny armor, keeping you safe, and you couldn’t agree more.
The movie started, and you enjoyed humming along the songs, until the scene of Sarah’s dream came onto the screen. Felix stood, and as As the world falls down started, he pulled you in his embrace, waltzing with you, enjoying your delighted laughter.
Once Sarah woke up,, the two of you resumed snuggling. When the movie ended, you couldn’t repress a yawn, and Felix carried you to your bed.
Settling under the covers, you nestled in his arms once again, and fell asleep easily, your soulmate being strong enough to ware off any nightmare.
“Sweet dreams, Tesoro” he whispered softly in your ear as you fell asleep.
Hi. I have a few thoughts about "Breaking Dawn". I am 50/50 with these options, maybe they are both correct or both are not correct. Mayer wrote that all vampires know how to use modern technology because
1. So that vampires don't look pathetic and insignificant in the eyes of modern people who are surrounded by these technologies.
2. Vampires actually interact with these things, Bella is an unreliable storyteller in this.
Imagine stone statues that used to be people, but now they eat people. The cute things they have they took from the corpses of their victims. They don't watch movies or listen to music (don't know how to use technology or don't their senses perceive it?), don't talk to people and fight to the death for territory and food with other vampires. Doesn't sound cool, does it? A vampire who is 300-500 years old with a MacBook and a Range Rover is something else.
Your thoughts?
See this is really fascinating to me, especially back when I was actively reading fanfic, to see how differently other people interpreted it. Because when I originally read the books, my impression was that yeah, they weren't doing any of this. They were living in the woods just eating people and not going near humans at all because they couldn't without killing them. I thought it was really super hard, borderline impossible, for human-killing vampires to really interact with the human world in any meaningful way. That they couldn't pop into a movie theater and watch a film because the temptation to kill everyone would be too great and then it would be a whole thing and the Volturi might come after them. Like, at the time I thought Jasper going into a diner in the first place was super weird; why would he do that (other than so the cute diner story can happen, of course!), especially when he was already thirsty! Seemed to be asking for trouble!
And so, yeah, I didn't think being a Twilight style vampire sounded that cool. Living in the forest attacking random hikers and then wearing their clothes? Can't sleep? Can only drink blood and not enjoy food at all? No thanks. Sounds awful. What's the point of immortality if you can't like, DO stuff? Even the Volturi, Patrons of the Arts that they are, allegedly have just sat still on their thrones for so long they have literally gathered dust and started to petrify. They aren't going out and exploring the world, they aren't being active and engaged. They're sitting there like the stone people they are.
But then other people interpreted it totally differently and wrote vampires outside the Cullens having fairly Cullen-like lives with enjoying human world arts and culture and tech. Other vampires who had jobs and cool cars and nice houses. And certainly I've read and seen plenty of other vampire stories that do that, but I thought originally that Twilight vampires were much more 'feral' for the lack of the better word and hidden, that the whole vegetarian thing DID allow the Cullens a level of access to the human world that other vampires didn't have.
I've now come to think it's somewhere in the middle. I think Twilight vampires are still pretty nomadic, generally, and out of touch with the human world, but not as completely as I thought before. The whole red eyes thing are a bit of problem, but with colored contacts (like Heidi uses) or sunglasses, it's not a huge thing in the modern world. And I think the temptation to hunt is not as extreme as I originally had thought, either. That they probably can sit in a diner or movie theater or library for awhile and be fine as long no one is actively bleeding. But I still think the average Twilight vampire probably leads a pretty 'boring' life that's mostly about where they are going to find their next victim and trying not to draw attention to themselves. The average vampire isn't scrolling TikTok on their phone, because they don't have one, and don't have money to pay for service, because they don't have a job or a bank account. But they might fool around with the phone of their victim for a little while before tossing it so they can't be tracked. They don't have a permanent residence (other than Amun and his hidden temple, I guess), but might "play house" from time to time in a victim's place for the novelty of it, take a shower, figure out how the TV works, before going back to the wilderness once their victim's disappearance is noticed. It seems really lonely and boring, and a waste of their incredible intelligence. Better if you have a mate, I guess, but even then. I think the James/Victoria lifestyle (other than hunting other vampires for funsies like James liked to do) is probably closer to the average vampire experience than the Cullens'.
But then again, in MS James knows how to fly a plane apparently. Or did he just like . . . figure it out as he went since it wouldn't matter if he crashed?
Poise
A/N: Here she is. Seriously Aro is wicked fun to write and as I told Vas (@vasiktomis) reader/MC kinda ripped the reins from my hands. Is she (as in reader/MC) a lil coo coo bananas? Yes. Did she stretch my abilities as a writer? Yes. Were there times that I agonized over a singular word choice for an embarrassing amount of time? Oh yes. A lot of firsts in this fic for me as a writer. Very proud of myself. Thanks for reading. Also I'm so unserious about Aro. No funky aesthetic gif for this one. He's simply too silly. I also post all my stuff on both Tumblr and AO3. Same handle!
Pairing: Aro Volturi x F!Reader
Words: 6.6k
Warnings: gore (consider yourself warned), implied intimate partner abuse in flashbacks, death (no major characters), arachnophobia, reader has powers having to do with nightmares and is crazy, so is Aro, it’s the Volturi you kinda know what you’re getting into
Summary: After taking matters into your own hands, you swear never to be weak a day in the rest of your eternity. The Volturi can help with that.
Tumblr media
“What I am left wondering is why you have suddenly found yourself in want of membership to the Volturi. You denied us quite emphatically those many years ago.”
“I was under a year into my immortality, Caius. You must forgive the blunders of my youth.”
Indeed, that many years ago you had declined their invitation. But that was when you still had your youthful fire about you. In so many years you had traded it in for temperance.
Still Caius narrowed his eyes from the platform. Only two of those splendiferous thrones were occupied at the moment -- a naked helm. Heidi had assured you that Aro was well on his way. That had been 3 minutes ago when Caius had decided to put you on trial for no other reason than him not being present.
Marcus watched on with those ancient eyes. They must have always looked old, you thought to yourself. You couldn’t imagine Marcus’ eyes looking any younger than time itself. And Caius’ eyes -- well… Very well. You’d let him enjoy this silly little power trip. There was something of a cruel smile lifting the edge of his lip.
“I have the time to hold a grudge.”
“Have you nothing better to do with eternity than harbor petty anger? My, my, you truly do not play well with others.” Your eyes drifted to Marcus. “Have you nothing to say, old friend?”
“We are hardly old friends.”
You rolled your eyes, settling your attention back to Caius. “If you’ll excuse me, I shall speak no more until Aro arrives.”
“Why? Are you frightened?” He taunted. Bait, that’s all it was…
“Are you?”
The doors behind you swung open heavily, like a final breath. Four sets of heeled shoes struck the marble. You did not turn even as Jane and Alec walked close on either side of you, like eels as they glided up the platform standing in the background.
Heidi didn’t even so much as brush past you to go out a side door. It was an unusual occurrence to demand entrance into the Volturi especially when a previous invitation had been so rudely turned down. You were certain a number of the vampires along the walls with you were there simply to see what demise would befall you for such insolence.
The fourth set of boots slowly walked up to the direct back of you. There was no body heat to speak for Aro but you knew it was him. The eyes of all the people in the room suddenly on you could not mean anything else.
“Did you receive a warm welcome?” His voice hit the back of your head and it was no louder than a lover whispering their intentions.
You straightened, your eyes piercing Caius where he stood. “Something like that.”
Aro finished the pace around you. “You are very brave to have come here.” His eyes scanned the walls. He was looking to see if it was true that you had come alone.
“I was hoping it might be rewarded.”
“Hope…” He tasted the word. “Now that’s a word I have not heard in a good while.”
Half of a smile spread across your face. “You’re welcome.”
“Hm.” Aro looked you up and down, amused, before continuing his path to his throne. The three men on the platform finally sat. “And I… well, perhaps I should not assume a thing. Why don’t you tell me why you are here?”
The blonde vampire stole the silence from you. You couldn’t help but think that the angelic color was wasted on him. He would be blonde. “Foolish girl, she’s changed her mind!”
“Caius, I did ask her to tell, did I not?” Aro only dignified the man with a slight turn of his head. He set his jaw and sunk back into his throne a little. Aro’s hand gestured for you to continue.
“It is true,” you responded. As much as it pained you to soothe Caius’ temper via agreeability you were not above it especially now. “I would like to petition for entry to the Volturi.”
The laugh of all the vampires in the room made it all the more funny, you supposed. Even Marcus’ perpetually morose eyes tilted up as he chuckled.
Aro only smiled. “Now my dear…”
“I am aware of my past petulence-”
“Ooh, that was not petulence,” he corrected you, leaning forward. “Petulence is far too generous. You were rude.”
You gulped. It was true. You had been rude those 200 years ago. Very rude.
Aro continued. “I believe you said… what were the words you used…?”
Marcus cleared his throat. “Allow me. ‘The Volturi are a semblance of order. Their actions are a colossal mimicry of law and the leaders are just as big of fools for as long as they stand if they believe that their offers of entry are anything more than an identification of spinelessness in the subject if they accept such a thing.’” Curse him for his memory. “Something like that.”
His really good memory.
The helmsman of the Volturi raised his brows at that. “Your recollection is pristine, Marcus. My goodness, such scathing words… I had forgotten.”
“‘Go to hell, you greedy fucks’ too,” Caius added, that hint of a cruel smile earlier was now a complete grin. “Can’t forget that either.”
“That last one was not me actually.” A glower from the blonde vampire. “My sire, rest his soul-” I hope he is eternally suffering, “-should be properly credited for that.”
There was a chuckle from all three on the platform, even Jane smiled a little. Although it was better than how you had begun it still was not a good sign.
“Yes, rest his soul.” Aro tilted his chin up. “Whatever did happen to him?”
A test. Aro knew what had happened. Everyone in the room knew what had happened. Or they knew a version. “My coven at the time… handled him and went our separate ways.”
It was not a lie.
“Yes, I suppose you did handle it.” Aro remarked. “It was startling to hear about, just like that, ripped limb from limb by your coven.” He didn’t trust you. Why would he?
You swept up the steps before him and wordlessly knelt, reaching a hand up. A young woman reaching her hand up to a young man, both centuries old. Jane and Alec stepped forward in warning, flanking Aro’s throne. Your eyes flitted between them. An impasse. Still you kept your hand outstretched to Aro who had taken a small step forward in your approach. Your eyes landed back on him. Please.
Aro regarded you coolly; it was colored by something else though. Intrigue. Curiosity. Hunger. The last time Aro had read you had been 200 years ago; you had so much less control then. You remembered him snatching his hands away from yours as your nightmares, or rather his, had sloppily tumbled toward him while he flitted through your memory. Two horrible truths slamming into one another -- a mutual bruise, the two of you. Your talents were similar, all thing considered.
“You can look,” you whispered up at him. “I am better at this now.”
Something of a warm smile dawned on him, if indeed Aro could ever be described as warm, as he crouched down. His red, milky eyes bore into yours and then, gently, one of his hands tucked under your palm and the other covered your knuckles. You bridled the lightning fast nightmares as the man pushed forward.
Just like the first time it had happened, it felt like nothing more than the pad of a thumb releasing held pages as they rushed for the cover of a book. Aro flicked through two centuries of life in ten seconds, his eyes darting between yours as he passively consumed.
The story had to begin with the truth that covens did not turn on each other. In technicality it was not that it had turned on itself -- just all against the self-declared leader who held all of you in a vice-like grip. You refused to even give him his name in your memory, yet another way to kill him back in a way that truly mattered.
His inclinations of you showing abilities upon your turning were unfortunately well-guessed. You cursed your sire for the rest of your days for his early but ultimately rare stroke of clairvoyance. With time you would learn that he was no stranger to fear as a weapon either.
Aro pushed forward, unreadably neutral. The memory of the first time you ever used your abilities somersaulted through your consciousness. You had gone well beyond the bounds of the perimeter that had been set for you by your captor. It was direct disobedience to your sire’s orders and the vampire passing through never saw it coming. The spooking they had done you was a complete accident. Their intentions to take the human body you were feeding on, however, were undeniably loaded with malice.
You had only intended to shoot them a glare but something about the tense moment, about them approaching you with a hand reaching out to what was in yours… that’s what started it. You heard it first, an impossibly low thunder like something far beneath the earth pushing its way up; they heard it too. Your crouch was something feral when you did it and the nightmares that crashed into that poor vampire tumbled into your mind too. To that though you were a spectator, privy to the innermost workings of what horrified that particular individual.
Tense shoulders, a talon-like grip taking control of your hands, a furrowed brow. Your eyes snapped shut; while the nightmares were never your personal bane they hardly offered any comfort. You saw it all. It would be the first of many in the coming eternity.
Their shrinking hands slashing and clawing through phantom blood, unable to cup it, unable to consume any of it in a vicious bout of craving. Frantically pressing themselves into the ground as the endless blood on the ground began draining into the soil. They were withering by the second. It didn’t matter to the vampire that it was utterly ridiculous.
The vampire before you, the real version, collapsed to the ground; you heard it, like a snare cutting through reverberating bass. You didn’t open your eyes until their breath came out in pants, as if they were suffocating on too much air. And it stopped. Just like that. An end to the focus ending their nightmare.
Aro cocked his head, continuing to read you. In hindsight, you wished you had cut and run right then. You would have had a head start. Your sire wouldn’t have caught you in the few moments he had made the mistake of leaving you alone. From that moment on, he forced you to be at his side. You remembered the berating you had gotten for your disobedience that followed after his wide-eyed realization that you could do what you had done to the weeping vampire.
With that, you became the prize of the coven; it was your abilities that afforded your sire his longevity. He made you play with his food sometimes; asking what you saw as you screwed your eyes shut. You told yourself it was from the effort. In truth it was not any harder than flicking down a wooden block had been in your mortal youth.
No, you strained with the wretched knowledge that the only thing you really had a knack for was holding out a mirror. The beastly things you saw -- what frightened the most deplorable of individuals. It was sick; in every horrid vision you churned out, you saw the inner workings of the mind, of the filthy things that these monsters had done in their conscious lives. The worst thing about your abilities was that the most frequent nightmare you bore witness to was them getting what they had deserved. Revenge. Balance. Order. Justice.
It was true. Yours and Aro’s gifts weren’t really that different. You saw a lot, possibly too much of whoever had the poor luck of encountering your proficiencies.
And, oh, how your sire had loved your gift. It was precious, he said. You recalled a time he had even called it artistry. It was after you used it, after you saw the depravity of human and vampire kind that he cradled your head between his heavy hands. You learned to savor the moments where he wasn’t throwing them around. And during those times when you deeply pleased him by what you were able to do, you saw him bloat with the intoxication of power. It would be many years until you really used your gift but it took little guesswork to know then what he feared: the loss of control -- the loss of you. Motivated by pride he kept turning others, stopping at the fifth of your covenmates when he realized that he had really only lucked out on his first try -- also, you.
That was when you had been initially approached. Your sire had never once received so much as a greeting from the Volturi; he never let you forget how bitter it made him. Unfortunately, his hold on you also included passing down his opinion. By the time the Volturi got to you, you had been spoiled against them. Only time would truly tell whether you would be forgiven for it.
At this moment, though his red eyes were set on you, Aro wasn’t really looking though -- not the present-you anyways. It was subtle, the way his brows and lips fluttered up and down as if fighting his own desire to respond. His expression sobered briefly.
You had spent centuries with the man, your sire… he was brutal. Even you were not immune to his rage. Each of your covenmates were strong in their own rights but none of you were singularly stronger than him. The Volturi’s arrival and immediate departure was one of the worst days of your life. You remembered holding one of your sisters, the sixth, the youngest, after it all. She begged you to stay and endure with her. And for two hundred years the two of you, all of you kept that promise to each other.
It had been one too many cruel moments when the dam broke. It was the moment that all of you realized that while you were too individually weak, he couldn’t handle all of you. You did the honors of the inaugural blow -- undoing him with nightmares of his own demise as it came to fruition. It was the only time in all of your years of using your abilities that you hadn’t clenched your eyes shut and shrunk away. No, that time… that time you had leaned forward, eyes unblinking as you watched him writhe in fear before what was left of him was instead writhing in pain. It was easy, like dropping a heavy bucket with little care of what happened to its contents.
As Aro dug, it was only then that you realized you smiled when you’d done it. It was funny, you supposed, that your sire’s worst fear had come to pass right as it transpired just moments before in his mind. The six of you, your five covenmates and yourself, tore him to shreds. No blood that you had tasted or would ever taste compared to the delicious freedom of his eternal rest. He died, truly died, afraid. He deserved worse.
It was short-lived though. After centuries of subjugation, the sudden freedom was a blessing and a curse and not a single one of you could really agree on what to do except to leave. It was devastating in the same way you would see the final struggle of a living thing fighting off its final moments before succumbing; they were certainly in a better place. Two of them went on their own. The other three traveled together elsewhere. At the end of it you found yourself alone and not wanting to be weak again a day in your life.
While the rebellion had been justified, it was an overthrow of power, something especially dangerous in the halls of Volterra and you had been the ring leader. After all, you were the only one in the group with a talent.
Aro rose to his feet, gently tugging you up with him. “Now that does complicate the narrative, doesn’t it…”
Your eyes flickered to Caius who was in turn staring him down. “Oh, come off it, Aro. You are not honestly considering letting her in.” He stalked up to where the two of you were standing. You looked up at both of the men, still a step below. “The Volturi do not give second chances!”
“If I may, I am not asking for a second chance.” Bold… This was bold of you… “I am petitioning for membership on the grounds that it was offered once before. Your opinions of me have not changed since the initial offer.”
“Yes, they have.” Caius spat.
“Mine haven’t,” Aro confirmed. “Although I wouldn’t be so sure that is a good thing.”
Bright red eyes bore down as you finally pulled your hand from his grasp. His fingertips brushed along your knuckles before his hands lowered in kind. Him looking through your mind just moments prior felt less invasive. You directed your attention instead to the less intense of the two.
“We should have killed you the second you walked in here.”
Very well. “If it is an apology you want I will give it.” Your eyes were locked on Caius, pure impudence meeting unbridled sadism. You knew it drove him crazy.
“Foolish girl-!”
“I am sorry!” You snapped at him. The words came out more like ‘shut up.’ They were just as effective though. Caius stood silent although the sneer was still on his face. Of course that would do it for him. You knew it. It was disgusting. Oh, how he loved seeing people grovel. The hate in that man’s heart…
You suddenly remembered yourself. Aro had seen that -- your distaste for Caius, your willingness to do anything to be a member of the Volturi, your deep regret that your sire had influenced you to be so brash. That was one of the worst things your sire ever did: convincing you that his opinions were yours.
“I will repeat to you what I said to you earlier. Forgive me for the insolence of my early days. It was unwise of me to have behaved in such a way… and-” You were practically choking on your apology, uselessly panting with the effort. Admittance that you were wrong had a bad mouthfeel, especially after decades being forced to do it. “-and I was wrong about all of it. Consider me corrected.”
If Caius had been biting back any of his cruel amusement before, he certainly wasn’t hiding it now. Marcus was now standing closer having meandered nearer during the course of the apology. And Aro… Aro had the most curious of soft smiles on his face.
You were beginning to think you had made some kind of mistake coming here. You had laid almost all your cards bare. You had shown them you were desperate which was far worse than just being desperate. This was something you were going to have to amend for a good while if they accepted you. That you begged to be let in.
“I am satisfied,” Caius remarked, eyes settling on Aro. They were standing over you, all three of them.
Some days ago you had come across a rat moments before it was devoured by three street dogs in an alleyway on your journey to Volterra. It must have looked like something like this to that rather unfortunate vermin, you thought to yourself.
Your head dropped in complete and utter humility, eyes only on the marble underfoot. Even the pristine stone was too good for you… You had been at the mercy of the three men before you since you set foot in this dreadful place. It was only at that premature moment you still had an ounce of pride in your body. It was far gone now.
“Marcus?”
“I am satisfied.”
“As am I.” Cold smooth fingers tucked under your chin. Aro’s. You must have looked something pitiful. “And this-” Aro tutted at you, lifting your face up. “-we will work on this.”
The gesture might have been kind, intimate even, if it was anyone but Aro. You didn’t really trust him as far as you could throw him but you knew enough in having seen his nightmares many years ago that he would not tolerate an ounce of self-deprecation in a vampire beyond paying their due respects to the Volturi, to him. He had seen quite enough from you. That much was true.
“Yes… sir?” You tested the title. You weren’t quite sure what to refer to him as.
Aro’s face took on something of a delighted expression. “Look at you using your manners. See, Caius; she learns.” The blonde vampire rolled his eyes. “I do appreciate it but ‘Aro’ will do just fine.”
Ah. Well, that was embarrassing. You nodded affirmatively. Marcus’ eyes flicked from Aro to you and back before he returned to his seat. Out of the corner of your eye you saw Jane smile something wicked.
“We shall get you new attire, especially now that you will be joining the guard after some fine-tuning, but there’s no sense in putting you in anything of the sort since we’re coming up on-” The side doors swung open and Heidi led in a group of tourists who were guffawing at the ceiling. Aro’s hands flew up like a child prince being brought an expensive present. In a sense, it was -- “-dinnertime!”
Oh, so this was how they fed. Aro steered you to the side and behind him with a hand clamped around your upper arm. Heidi sidled up to you.
“Welcome to the Volturi.”
“How did you know?”
“You are still in one piece.” Fair.
Aro leaned over to you. “Now, next time you will join your compatriots along the wall but tonight we will make an exception -- something of a welcome gift…” He extended his arm to the group of mortals before you who were clicking pictures of the room. Like fish in a bucket… or however the expression went.
You raised a brow at him.
“You first, my dear.”
A vampire along the wall by the name of Felix bobbed on his feet, antsy. You smiled and launched off the platform for the human before you. The both of you rolled together as you slammed him into the ground. Only his limbs flailed clumsily. Yours had been a vision of centuries of practice. A trained killer.
You bared your teeth. He screamed. Humans…
Tumblr media
Wandering aimlessly about the grounds, such expansive ones at that and with such independence, was novel to you. You weren’t entirely sure what to do with yourself; it was beautiful. Just months ago you had been sequestered to your corner of the world, never to go beyond a painfully small perimeter. And now here you were… surrounded by the most powerful of your kind. Nearly unrestricted access to the grounds. New clothes. Fresh blood, not whatever your sire didn’t finish. Eyes never black with hunger. The respect you got as a tentative member of the Volturi guard. It was new.
And the Italian air. Sure, you didn’t really need to breathe at all. There wasn’t a function to smelling it. But the air… The breeze in Volterra was something fresh, warm, earthy, sweet, like blood. It was even more perfumy at night.
Something about the years of being on edge, even as an immortal, still ran through your veins, through the very way you functioned. Even in your most relaxed moments, you could recognize when you were being followed. And someone was following you.
You stopped in your tracks, only peering over your shoulder.
A fraction of you thought to yourself -- how odd… Aro should’ve been better at this. Then you realized two things. The first was that if Aro was truly aiming for discretion in whatever he was about to do, there was no reason for it to be him here and now. The second was that it was also entirely possible that Aro simply didn’t care that you knew he was there… or, in fact, did want you to know. Your curiosity was a helpless one; you must’ve looked like a cat.
“I was wondering when you were going to catch on.”
Only the trees in the garden obscured him from you, not the darkness. “How did I do?”
Silence as he rounded the corner. Black suit. Red eyes. Dark hair slicked back. You let him approach until he was a pace away, slowly continuing. “Ten seconds before you caught me… there are a good many vampires who would have gone much longer if noticing me at all.”
“Will you subtract a moment or two since I contemplated not acknowledging you?”
“Hearsay.”
“Only if you have the ability to corroborate and don’t.” You held your hand out to the side toward him, stopping in your tracks.
Aro only looked at it from the side of his eye, not even stopping. He did grace you with a smile though. “I should like to keep my victory unnegotiated.”
Ah, yes… the cat walking next to whatever you could call it that killed it. You closed the distance with a few long strides, now playing catch up with him. “You were loud.”
“I was not aiming for stealth.” If Aro was trying to humble you, it was working.
“And what was your target then?”
Silence again. It was comfortable. In time you came upon your favorite spot in the gardens — the point at which you could overlook the better portion of the town. It was beautiful -- quiet and empty for the most part at this time of night but the evidence of mortality there, living and dying… well, you still found it charming.
“Would now be the appropriate time to thank you?”
“For heaven's what?”
“For…” You finally looked at him beside you. He wasn’t looking at you; perhaps he was gazing beyond this little enclave in Tuscany. “For your hospitality.”
“Hospitality is for guests.”
“I was a guest for a small while.”
“You were more of a defendant.”
“Well, then, I thank you for your arbitration.”
“My ‘arbitration’?”
“Yes.”
Aro exhaled for the show of it. “Do stop your simpering and get on with what you mean.”
You were speechless.
“I didn’t say ‘shut up,’ did I?”
You blinked at him. “I suppose… I am grateful to be somewhere nicer.”
“I can hardly be thanked for your decision to come here.” He still refused to regard you. You imagined it was a rare thing for Aro to resist such expressions of the kind. He was a proud man after all. You looked back out at Volterra.
Aro finally turned his eyes to you. It was a withering look. Now that you obliged. “I saw quite a bit in that mind of yours. It is such a shame that you were thoroughly convinced of such horrible things.”
You were confused. “The only thing that I was convinced of was inferiority.”
“Like I said,” he snipped. “Horrible things.”
“Now how is that horrible,” you inquired. Surely this did not bother him personally. Aro did not strike you as the type. “I do you no injury in my lack of pride.”
“And you think it is good for the Volturi’s reputation, for the guard’s reputation to have but one who thinks themselves lesser than even humans?” Aro seemed to shudder at the ‘h word.’
Oh. There it was. He was right. Your head lowered.
He tilted your chin up for the second time. It wasn’t as gentle. This time it was a scolding. Aro was not pleased. He released it looking back onto the town. “And you must stop that. It’s unbecoming.”
It was lost on you how to respond. “Sorry.”
“Already forgiven, my dear.”
“I guess… I just want to thank you for taking a chance.”
Aro scoffed and looked at you fully. He wasn’t a tall man; his height was hardly what made him intimidating. What made him intimidating was the stature with which he carried himself, the raw power, the hunger, the intelligence. A man like him hadn’t gotten to where he was without some impressive cunning.
“I might find low esteem from my subordinates satisfactory on the usual occasion. I will not mince my words -- on you it is a most distasteful thing. I will forgive its ugliness for its reaffirmation but only for a time.”
If there was any functional air in your lungs, it would’ve been snatched from you. His words were not harshly spoken nor were they loudly boomed at you. Instead they broke skin like something sharp to vulnerable flesh. Aro took an imposing step forward. You took one back but it wasn’t enough. Your neck was craned up at him despite every inner instinct to shrink away; you wouldn’t dare disobey him again. You weren’t sure he would be as kind.
“There is nothing so abhorrent as one of our kind — our superior, beautiful kind — acting in the embarrassing way you continue to. If I was capable of emptying my stomach at the thought, I would.” Aro plucked something minute off your shoulder before rolling it between his long fingers and discarding it to the wind. “And as far as taking a chance is concerned, I- The Volturi- do not ‘take chances.’ Make no mistake, there is no calculated risk with you being here.”
“I-”
“If that is an apology or another meaningless expression of gratitude poised on your tongue, I would advise that you hold it there.”
You could only gape up at him. He was leaning over you still, very close.
“You will show the full extent of your gifts tomorrow. I want you officially in the guard as soon as possible.” And with that, Aro was gone, stalking away into the gardens.
Tumblr media
With about 12 hours to ruminate on Aro’s words to you, you had decided that he had a flair for melodrama. You also decided definitively that you would never let him know such a thing unless he pried the information from you, which he was indeed capable of. This… what you were being made to do before the Volturi… You would not define it with such levity. When Aro had said that you were to display the full extent of your gifts, he had meant it.
It wasn’t certain whether it was you or the man writhing on the ground that was the subject of the gripping fear that your nightmares brought, what with your upper body being curled in on itself the way it was. Your fingers were curled at the ends of your locked arms with effort. The unfortunate human’s whimpers rattled along the domed ceiling, merely an accessory to the deep hum in your ears.
There was an exaggerated yawn from behind you — showy for a vampire — Jane’s. And a voice cut through the whole of it, halting your powers immediately. “No, no. That won’t do at all.”
Because you had already been shrinking away at the time of the interruption you needed only to open your eyes. The body thudded to the floor. Relief. It wouldn’t last. Aro was shaking his head as he leaned against his throne.
“You, my dear-” he pushed off his spot and stopped just behind you “-are holding back.”
The man, as far as you could tell, was only deeply phobic of spiders. It was how you had done it the dozens of times you’d done it before. Except for…
Out of the corner of your eye, Caius held a finger to his temple, rolling his eyes. Asshole… Aro’s voice pulled you back. “Try again.”
You clenched your eyes shut, your chest coiling up in kind. The man began wheezing almost instantaneously, the only sound in the room.
“No.” Aro cut in once again and you dropped focus. You turned to face him, your muscles loosening in the way that only annoyance could make them. His red eyes glimmered back at you. “That is not what I meant. Again.”
You huffed. You’ve done it once before, his face seemed to say. Who were you kidding… that was exactly what his sharp features said. When you had channeled that much power, you had been in an entirely different state of mind. That had been the raw rage you had buckled behind survival. All you had done was suddenly unleash it. You weren’t certain that you still had it in you. “Aro. I can’t-”
“Ah, ah, ah.” Nonsense. His hand straightened to a point — the human, once more.
You faced more of your body, still tense, eyes clamping shut. Your arms locked to your sides and you willed the fear forward before you tensed — thunder in your ears. Your muscles reacted in pure instinct, the man weeping in perfect time. Despite the overwhelming physical sensation of pushing the abstract forward, you could feel Aro behind you. It was stronger this time.
Oh, the man wasn’t just afraid of spiders.
Between the spiders, flickering amidst the impossible number of angular legs and blinking sets of eyes, the insects that dribbled into every corner of his vision, there was something else. A girl with one dark eye and a knife. She was young.
You jolted backward, knocking briefly against Aro. If he minded he didn’t indicate any such sentiment. Your lip curled into a sneer. The human… he was pleading with a higher power that was certainly not listening if it was there at all. Pathetic.
When your eyelids closed this time they didn’t tighten. It was a flutter. And this time when your muscles tensed, you trembled. Where there was air between the clawed fingers at your side, you imagined the man’s fleshy neck. This… this was righteous. The girl began closing in, spiders skittering out of her path.
Aro’s voice brushed your ear. “May I?” You nodded your head, although you weren’t certain as to what exactly you were agreeing to. Aro would not harm you; you were sure of it.
It felt like a baptism. In a way it was. Feather light, Aro’s fingers ghosted first at the base of your neck, gently pulling the muscles out to your shoulders. In the touch you were acutely aware that it wasn’t intimacy that Aro was after; he was honing you. Your nightmares were only encouraged.
Aro’s hands smoothed over your shoulders with a quiet mastery -- tender in the way a sculptor guided pliable clay between their fingers as it spun at their behest. The harshness was gone with but a swipe.
The man bellowed. He sounded now more of a screeching animal than man. The girl picked up her pace, almost a jog. The knife winked at him.
It turned into a full grasp as Aro traveled down your biceps, tugging the astriction out. He chased the natural form of the muscle down your elbows into the joint of your wrist. The rigidity in your fingers released at the pressure he placed there -- conjoined in poise.
You pushed a stronger assault of terror forward to meet the man. Long gone were the spiders. There was a small part of you that recognized that he wished for the insects instead of the young girl with a bruise ready to bury the knife in his chest, his stomach, anywhere the business end would find purchase. She was standing over him.
He screamed. Yes, ‘scream’ was the right word for it…
You spectated his nightmare; the girl with the dark eye had already started plunging her blade into him. Again. Again. Again. Again.
Aro’s hands shed themselves from your arms but only for a moment. Your chin bloomed with the familiar feeling of his fingers, turning it and angling it upright. Proud as it was meant to be.
He whispered again. “Look.” It was a gruesome sight.
The possibility that the man had begun gouging out his own eyes the moment Aro had begun amending your posture was a good one. If that was the case he had indeed made decent progress. The man was on his knees and his left eye hung from its socket like a generous helping of hot cheese, swinging. You almost wanted to applaud the man’s zeal. Only a desperate rodent would have done what he had. His grubby fingers pushed into his own skull again, getting around the other eye, bemoaning his self-inflicted plight. He seemed to be chewing the air. There was viscera on the marble -- not the first time it had been so defiled and it certainly wouldn’t be the last.
Still, you didn’t relent; you had never extended your power this far. God, why hadn’t you done it before… Sure, you- no, he had taken his eyes but somehow it wasn’t enough. The young girl brandishing the blood-soaked knife was still angry. This was justice. And he hadn’t yet paid in full.
He howled, writhing.
Marcus approached at the very edge of your vision. “Aro… is this-?”
He was halted by an upheld hand, the other slowly falling from your chin. Aro watched you as you watched the man, watched his nightmares.
“We needn’t toy any longer.”
The thunder in your ears rumbled to silence. “This is toying? If you saw what I saw, you’d know…”
Marcus seemed taken aback. You weren’t sure if it was because of how true your words were or how right they sounded coming from your mouth.
You drifted back to the man. “He deserves it.” Your voice came out no louder than a whisper.
“It’s alright, Marcus. We asked for an assessment-” The ensuing squelch and sudden cry indicated the man had found success on his second endeavor. “-and we have indeed received one.”
You found Aro’s eyes with yours.
There was something of an assuaged smile -- his bright teeth wolfish. The feeling of your cheeks pulled up was the only sign to yourself that you had been smiling. You took the moment to look about the room. Caius was staring at the man on the floor, mouth slightly ajar.
“Well?”
He turned his head first then his eyes. A grin.
You beheld the grotesque body with a sneer. He hadn’t even had the decency to look artful as he went -- his body held upright by the leverage of his spine against his heels. Pathetic. The way he dug at his own face like that… like you were some tumor, something he could just rip out of himself if he tried hard enough and be done with. He died as stupid as he looked. Your chest flared at the offense.
Aro was still standing near you. “Par excellence.”
You digested his words. You understood now. This was what he had known you were capable of. In just moments, Aro had cured you of your affliction, the debilitation of timidity. You matched his smile.
“Would now be the appropriate time to thank you?”
It was met with a giddy laugh. Aro clapped his hands together, utterly delighted at your words, your smile. He gulped it down and stepped backward offering you an expressive bow complete with arms outstretched. “No ‘thanks’ necessary. You… you are a credit to our kind.”
You bobbed your head in courteous reply to his own bow, unable to hide your giggle.
“You were never anything but.”
Demetri Character Analysis - Part 1
━ ◦ ❖ ◦━━ ◦ ❖ ◦━━ ◦ ❖ ◦━━ ◦ ❖ ◦━━ ◦ ❖ ◦━━ ◦ ❖ ◦━━ ◦ ❖ ◦━━
Demetri New Moon - Duality of Diplomacy and Violence
Demetri first appears in the alleyway, instructed by Aro to bring two potential law-breakers back to him. Even in this tense and dangerous scenario with violence looming over everyone, Bella’s first impression of Demetri is his ‘soothing’ tone. This is no doubt a tactic to control the situation and discourage any rashness on Edward’s part.
"Felix merely meant to point out the proximity of the sun," the other shadow said in a soothing tone.
Even when Edward is refusing his request, Demetri continues to play the role of a ‘polite’ shadow who resembles ‘reasonableness’. Indeed, his request does seem reasonable - they 'merely' and ‘simply’ want to ‘speak’ somewhere less conspicuous.
But simple requests should have simple consequences - you don’t kill someone for refusing to comply. Him masking the underlying threat under the pretense of reasonableness when bringing someone back for trial is manipulative and calculating.
The second, more reasonable shadow cautioned. "Not here." He turned to Edward. "Aro would simply like to speak with you again, if you have decided not to force our hand after all."
It also shows that he is not someone that relies entirely on his vampire strengths and animalistics instincts (very common for vampires), and instead understands the politics of the hunt.
A readiness to kill:
What impresses me the most is how quickly he is able to shift from politely negotiating, to being ready to literally kill Edward and Bella, and then immediately return to his polite demeanor once Alice points out the human witnesses. He is able to evaluate the most suitable course of action in a split second, and adjust accordingly. This is not a simple task, as many hunters need to actively get into the mindset to kill.
I imagine this is a requirement for his job, where he is often the first point of contact with the accused, and would be forced to make a split second decision to either give them a chance to attend trial, or take swift actions to eliminate them if necessary.
‘No doubt, he would be a fighter. There was no other way he could have survived so long, always at the spear point of any attack. And he must always lead, because he was their tracker. (Breaking Dawn).
Therefore, Demetri is either someone who is able to calmly negotiate even when he is ready to kill, or someone who is able to quickly shift into a killing mindset. Either is equally impressive and dangerous.
Cruel Detachment:
“Nice fishing” (In reference to Heidi bringing back the group of tourists for the Volturi to feast on).
It is one thing to completely disregard humans, it is another to joke about the mass-killing of them. I am not a vegetarian myself, but if I were to go to a farm and meet the cows that will to be sent to the slaughter house for the BBQ I’m throwing, I would not feel comfortable joking about it.
To me, this is Meyer’s way of emphasizing the cruelty of the Volturi vampires, and using Demetri, who was the voice of reason, to make this comment really reinforces the point that even the most polite of them exhibits a callous detachment. It draws an interesting parallel to Alec’s interaction, where we are once again presented with a stark contrast between a vampire’s outward civility, and their inner detachment. It somehow drives the point more so than using someone like Jane and Caius.
Casanova of life?
Charlie Bewley, the actor portraying Demetri, once described the character as a “casanova of life.” However, there is nothing in canon that indicates this. In fact, I believe his proximity with Felix, who appears to be the actual casanova, would make this more difficult.
I imagine his tracking ability and Felix’s combat capabilities make them the perfect duo (find and eliminate), so the two would often work together. The persona Felix takes on is a flirty and impulsive muscle, and he often times might have to engage in conducts to reinforce this brute image (more on Felix in a later post). Therefore, Demetri would need to play the role of a mature, cautious leader, as seen in New Moon. This includes laying low and cleaning up Felix’s mess - to also participate in a promiscuous lifestyle would draw too much attention. I do think Demetri needs to be charming and sophisticated for his job, which might give the illusion of him being a ‘casanova’, but he's got too much responsibility to actually indulge in this lifestyle.
However, this is mostly my take on the limited information presented in canon. I would not be entirely surprised if he does turn out to be more promiscuous. It just means he is able to balance work with pleasure better than I give him credit for.
headcanons about the Volturi guards with a clingy mate?thanks love
Tumblr media
Alec
It’s off putting to him at first
As clingy as you are Alec is going to have a lot of boundaries especially around the rest of the guard
It’s hard because at first he doesn’t even try to see your side of things or look into why you may be so clingy and to be honest at first he doesn’t really care
Why would anyone allow themselves to place all their attention on one person? Conveniently forgetting how dependent him and Jane are on eachother
One day he sees your face red and puffy from crying about feeling alone in that giant castle, he tries to ignore it but he finds himself unable to stop thinking about how sad you looked
Why were you sad? Why did he care? Why was he thinking of your face all of sudden? Were you always that cute?
Dammit
After a very distracted guard duty he goes to talk to you, what did you do to him?
But when he sees you all alone in your forcibly shared quarters he begins feel his heart begin to pull towards you.
He’s not very good at expressing it he finds. He asks you why you were crying the other day. You ask him he the hell he cares because why wouldn’t you he hasn’t been very nice
And as if to prove you right he says fine and storms out. And almost immediately storms back in. And all but demands you tell him
You figure it doesn’t make much of a difference anyways so bb you tell him being his mate kinda sucks right now. His gaze immediately softens
Jane
Leave her alone trust me, fight the clinginess
She isn’t budging she needs her space
Okay maybe she will budge a smidge but it’s microscopic
Seriously go at slower than a snails pace because go too fast and she will freak out and use her gift on you
Let me make clear she didn’t mean to but she got overwhelmed and that’s how it came out
She feels bad but even after her apology she isn’t going to be touchy or wanting to cling to you at all.
Alec tried to help you understand she has never been affectionate with anyone besides their mother
He’s gotten pained a few times but because they were all eachother had Jane tolerated better she had time to adjust even if it took turning into a vampire and then some to show more affection
She will show you affection and love in other ways just back off for a bit lol which at first will just involve not scowling at you it’s a good sign honestly considering she still scowls at Demetri
Demetri
As you should be honestly (his words not mine)
He has no issue with this whatsoever
Literally none
He is the one most often sent out in missions however so he feels terrible about having to leave you all of the time
He makes sure to leave some item of clothing that smells a lot like him
It’s still hard and he often comes home to you feeling a bit sad
But he makes sure to let you know he’s alright as he takes you in his arms and spins you around
And if he isn’t busy he’s always holding you whether you’re alone together or are with the rest of the family
He knows clinginess can come from a fear of abandonment but whatever the reason he makes sure you know that’s he’s all yours and he doesn’t plan on going anywhere
Felix
Forever shocked you would want to spend all of your time with him
But also thank the gods because he is probably just as clingy
He only has to go on missions where the laws are being broken and even then Santiago will sometimes go especially now that he has you
The check in ones are usually Demetri and his mate or the twins with him
He’s more of an intimidating figure at trials and obviously he has the executioner title but Demetri will drag him out sometimes just to get the job done quick because that man is in a hurry to get home
Always stays with your for a few hours alone before even considering doing anything else
If you’re around for trials he has to work hard to not look at you which you can take for a challenge sometimes
Let it be known you have not broken this man yet when he puts on his guard persona there isn’t a person in that could break him or make him smile
But it’s still funny to try and it’s gotten the tiniest smile out of Caius once so you’ll take that as a win
Outside of work Felix enjoys a good prank so he always involves you in getting one of his friends
Involves you in everything honestly
Thought you were adorable when he came come to find you wearing one of his scarfs because you missed him
Can and will hold you for hours
Heidi
She asks if you actually want to just be in the room as she is while she makes calls and sends emails for the next tour
You do?
Okey dokey
She enjoys your company too and she sees no reason for you two to not be together
If somehow it is too much she is so kind about asking for space because she can be clingy too
okay I’ll try and say that when she’s feeling down (usually around the anniversary of her coven perishing) she needs to process things on her own
You can understand that and she usually comes back she will need you and won’t let go for awhile
That’s literally the only time she’s distant any other time and she’s just fine with your clinginess she finds it endearing and loves to spend time with you
It’s elevated if you are sent out in missions as well you both get a bit heartsick but distance makes the heart grow fonder and the reunion is always very…intense
how would you rank the volturi from least to most cringe (minus afton, of course because Cringe Georg is an outlier and should not be counted)?
I was going to say, you left out the most cringe one.
But alright, let's do this.
Caveat that we don't see much of the Volturi canonically, so this is my going on some major limbs here.
Caius
Look, Caius will light his own witness on fire with 0 regrets. The man defies cringe because there's only brutality and not a single moment wasted questioning it.
There's being certain of your decisions then there's being Caius.
Chelsea
While Chelsea failed when it came to making people like Afton (he was that cringe) she herself can tune relationships such that you don't find a cringey person cringe. That puts her towards the top of the list.
Heidi
By her gift, Heidi is the antithesis of cringe. She is so hot, you want to party with her and buy her timeshare/sketchy vacation package. You don't even question it, you're the one who feels cringe in her presence.
Demetri
Given Demetri's gift and his role and what we see of him, I imagine he's an extrovert and tries to stay on good terms with everybody. It's more or less his job to meet and greet, party, and make the rounds to make sure the Volturi can find who they need to.
To do his job properly, Demetri cannot be cringe.
Aro
While eloquently spoken and amiable from what we see of him, he did spend the entire meeting with Bella and Edward gushing about Carlisle. Neither Bella nor Edward noticed, but it was mildly terrible of him and gets him this spot in cringe jail.
Marcus
Canonically, Marcus is too depressed to function. The man can't say words, he's so depressed. Now, this isn't really cringe, as Marcus is too depressed to be cringe about anything, but it is really weird and probably uncomfortable in prolonged exposure from an outside point of view.
Bella got two seconds of him and she noticed the guy staring into space.
Felix
Canonically, Felix has said cringey things, such as telling Bella she looks hot as a vampire.
That was not necessary, Felix.
(He ranks higher than the others in that we only see him do it once and he's not necessarily cringe by his very nature/position. Had Felix gotten more lines, he'd be bumped up the list).
Renata
We don't see Renata much in canon. We know her backstory from the guide, which has uh some interesting details, and we know she guards primarily Aro.
This means most of her time is spent hanging around Aro, listening into conversations she wouldn't otherwise, and always being there in the room for... awkward moments such as someone's execution or painful conversations.
It's not so much Renata's cringe herself, but her very presence in moments where you'd just want to be talking to Aro, Caius, or Marcus means she's there too.
Corin
Corin isn't so much cringe herself, but she brings cringe with her. Her very power is to get you stoned. Corin is constantly the one sober person at a party, surrounded by people too drunk to function.
Jane and Alec
They're twelve forever. Twelve is the cringiest age in the world. Imagine being cringe forever with no hope of escape while also being two lethal death machines. The only person who will talk to you about pokemon is your sibling.
Eleazar
This one's more of a topic of hot debate, as our narrators think kindly about Eleazar but reading between the lines he was politely shown the door.
Afton
Look, he has to get mentioned. Infamous for being universally disliked and entirely useless.
I wonder, how in your hc Volturi couples Have sex. I mean, they're surrounded by other vampires with perfect hearing. I'm not sure that the others just ignore it, or maybe, the couples have some special isolated places...
Given that they live in what I assume was a castle built either during the Renaissance or Medieval period, it is probably relatively sound proof given that it’s largely concrete and brick however that doesn’t necessarily mean that vampires can’t hear through it, I assume it does dull the sound quite immensely though.
Would they have taken advantage of modern technology and made the walls even more sound proof since then? Possibly. They seem very willing to adjust to and incorporate modern tech as it makes sense for them.
However, from a historical perspective, I doubt hearing each other having sex is much of a taboo in Volterra. With the rise of religions such as Puritanism & Calvinism the west has become somewhat prudish about sex but this actually relatively modern.
Most of these people, the kings being Mycenaean Greeks, Felix being a Roman (in my hc), Demetri being a Medieval Greek and probably raised catholic, sex between married couples under god— which is what ‘mates’ are meant to represent in the larger religious subtext of twilight (we could get into the religious/historical metaphors of twilight in several separate posts), would’ve been done in houses, or huts, etc where their families could hear or see them having sex. This was the norm so people were pretty desensitized to it. People like Felix would have seen phalluses, prostitutes, naked statues, and brothels on any other Tuesday.
To put it simply, if they heard each other I just don’t think they’d care that much. I can imagine some people who are close to each other may make fun of one another (Felix & Demetri might tell each other to keep it down next time, but it really is only a gag that is probably in part making fun of modern taboos). Otherwise I don’t think they’d care.
If anyone did it would probably be Demetri or Heidi but even then they’d probably get over it quickly.
TLDR; they probably don’t care if they hear each other because for the most part they don’t have the sensitivities to sex that modern humans do
this is for you @volturi-stuff I LOVE YOU
warnings: some angst PURE FLUFF
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ʚɞ
You were struggling. You needed the comfort of your mate but you couldn’t bring yourself to go to him. In your opinion, he deserved better and you couldn’t help but think it was only a matter of time before he realised it too. You were curled up on the larger of the two sofas in your shared room, wrapped in a ball as a blanket surrounded your frame. You watched as the fire in front of you danced around and gentle tears fell from your eyes, dripping onto the cushion beneath your head.
The door opened silently as his eyes moved to you almost immediately. He made no noise as he moved toward you and you were startled as a hand was placed on your back. Quickly wiping away the tears that had escaped unwillingly you looked up to meet Demetri’s ruby eyes. He looked so distraught that you couldn’t hold yourself back any longer as you all but threw yourself into his arms, body beginning to shake as you sobbed into his shoulder. He pulled you closer as his hand rubbed soothing circles on your back.
“Oh, baby” he hushed you quietly “What has you feeling so worked up?” He had moved to sit in your previous space as you tightened your grip around him in an attempt to pull him even closer. He rubbed your back some more before pulling away as you calmed to press gentle kisses to the top of your head.
“You deserve better” You stated simply in between sniffles. Demetri furrowed his eyebrows as he looked down at you.
“You deserve better than me. You…you shouldn’t have to have the burden of having someone like me mated to you for eternity. I’m s-sorry you had to give up so much for me. You had Hei-“ He pressed a finger to your lips to stop you from saying anymore.
“Don’t even finish that sentence” he growled out and it should have scared you but before it could he pressed a sweet kiss to your lips. “I should be damned for all eternity but instead fate sent you, my angel. Y/N, being with you is better than anything I could ever imagine. You are my perfect amore. I don’t want Heidi or anyone else ever. All I want is you. All I need is you. I love you and only you.”
Your eyes glistened with more tears as you placed your forehead gently to his, a small ‘I love you’ was let out in between your sniffles. His thumbs stroked your cheeks so softly and as carefully as he possibly could he pulled you into a cuddle. Both of you relaxed in each others embrace, arms wrapped around each other and legs entangled as the occasional kiss was shared with each other.
Eventually you fell asleep in Demetri’s arms, soft breaths falling from your lips as he looked down at your head upon his chest. He was cut out of his thoughts when you moaned his name in the midst of sleep, arm wrapping tighter around him and head snuggling closer. He pressed a long, lingering kiss to your head before closing his eyes with a smile.
Hello. The dome above Forsk was already there, but what about the dome over Volterra? How will the Volturi cope with the situation?
"Gentlemen, it seems we'll have to amend a few rules."
The people of Volterra are no longer off-limits.
The good news is, there's 10 519 of them.
The bad news is, there are ~35 Volturi.
If each vampire eats one human every fortnight for a year (35*26) then 910 humans are sacrificed to the blood gods. That's 9% of the population total.
That is not all, however.
In a normal year, Italy has a mortality rate per thousand people of 10 people, that is to say, of these 10 519 people, we can assume 100 of them die of natural causes.
However, that rate is going to be significantly higher under the dome. Everyone dependent on medication is cut off, the hospital is going to run out of supplies fast, you have people dying of easily preventable causes.
I imagine the very first thing Aro does, after ascertaining that nobody is getting out and they're going to have to start living off the humans of Volterra, is dismembering all but Caius, Marcus, and the wives, and those in his guard who can help with crowd control. The twins, Heidi, Corin, and Chelsea get to stay online, the rest are stored in separate boxes in the basement, hopefully to be put back together someday in the future. We are now down to ten vampires, making it so 260 people are killed annually.
(Though I imagine Aro uses gamification to lower the rate even further. "Funny hats to whoever goes the longest without feeding!" "Praise and brownie points to he whose eyes are the blackest!")
There are, however, some good news.
Tuscany is a very fertile region, even if Volterra is a city and on top of a mountain hill there are large swaths of green areas that could be repurposed for farming, at least in theory. The people of Volterra are luckier yet in that there happens to be a very powerful man whose only interest is to keep as many people as possible, who could easily take control and allocate the resources in whichever way he found most constructive.
Said man also happens to have superpowered people who will never grow tired by his side, people who could easily take care of the farming.
Water is a concern, but with a sound filtration system that should sort itself out.
Would people still starve, yes, and there's the question of where Aro would find the seeds for farming (here's to hoping the local flower shops come through, or else that Aro has a seed bank in his palace. You never know with that guy), how long it would take for his efforts to bear fruit (pun intended), and how long the rations already in the city would keep.
Feeding is done as strategically as possible, the Volturi kill only the sick and the dying in a bid to keep the mortality rate as close to normal as possible. Fertile and pregnant women and children are cared for the best, in the hopes that humans won't stop procreating.
(... I imagine the fertile women with chronic illnesses or other health problems hurry up and get pregnant so they won't be the next sacrificed to the blood gods.)
They have a chance of achieving sustainability, is what I'm saying. The population will be significantly reduced and their standard of living will plummet, but it's not as bleak as with the dome over Forks, mainly because Tuscany allows for farming in a way Forks doesn't, and Aro can take control of the city in a way the Cullens can't.
The irony, I imagine, is that without the Volturi the world outside that dome is tearing itself to pieces, making the humans within the dome better off than those without.
Let's say that vampirism actually enhances a person's WORST trait (rather than an innate ability or power). What would be each Cullen's enhanced flaw?
I keep trying to answer this and I keep coming back to like, twisting their positive traits into a flaw, so I guess that's where my brain is going with this.
Like, Carlisle. I think if negative things were enhanced we'd end up with someone who is like . . . 'saving' everyone. He knows best, he wants to help, congrats you're a vampire now whether that's something you'd ever have wanted or not. He'd like amass a huge coven much more quickly and before he himself had really beaten the bloodlust/thirst stuff, so either it's just way too many vampires to keep in line and they start killing lots of people, or it really becomes a cult-like sort of thing with his natural ability to draw people to him also being twisted/corrupted. Probably wiped out by the Volturi early on because yikes.
With Edward I guess it would be his judgmental streak? Already in canon he is pretty quick to decide this person is bad based on a few idle thoughts, thoughts this person might actually consider intrusive, or thoughts they would never voice nor act on. He's probably leave on his rebellion much sooner because he would be convinced he'd ridding the world of monsters and Carlisle's like, "he's just like my father." I think whether he can still read minds in this scenario or not wouldn't really make a difference, he'd still appoint himself judge, jury and executioner.
The dark side of ability to love, to me, is possessiveness and jealousy. So an Esme with flaws intensified I see as someone who is very possessive and jealous of those she loves, to a manipulative and unhealthy degree. Lots of guilt-trips and "don't you love me?" and all that. Carlisle probably can't keep a job because she's jealous of the time he spends there; the kids probably don't go to school because she wants them with her, etc.
SM seemed pretty happy to highlight Rosalie's flaws already; her vanity, self-absorption, her rudeness. But I think if her power is beauty than the enhanced flaw has to be related to that too, so either enhanced vanity or maybe she's more like a Heidi type who can lure people in not just with looks but with a little something supernaturally extra. Whether she still abstains from human blood or not, she could still use and manipulate people with that kind of power.
Emmett's competitiveness and impulsiveness could be the enhanced flaws. It would be sort of like James, I'd imagine, constantly compelled to put himself (and his family) in increasing levels of danger. It could also enhance his temper; instead of being kind of playfully competitive, he gets actually violently angry.
I mean Alice, let's be real, already manipulates reality and the people in to her will based on her visions. She does so in an attempt to bring about the 'best' future possible, but it still veers into questionable territory pretty quickly. If her sort of pushiness and desire to know and control everything were enhanced, it would take what is already sort of there in canon and push it all the way into a really dark place where she's pulling the strings and creating a future that solely benefits her and doesn't care one bit about who might be harmed in the process.
Jasper lack of self-control intensified would also be, uh, really bad. I suppose he would have been killed by Maria pretty early on if he was that impossible to rein in, unless he killed her first and then the Volturi would have to step in because there is this out of control killing machine who can't control himself running around. If we stick with his gift being corrupted/turned into a flaw, that charismatic streak that he had could turn into a power to actually make people do things, like mind-control of sorts. I personally don't like mind control powers because the lack of free will really squicks me out, but I can go with something like hypnosis, where like some people are more susceptible than others and you can't really get someone to do something they wouldn't do as themselves. So like he couldn't compel the average person to serve as his Renfield or to murder people on his behalf, but he could find people who were susceptible to the power of suggestion AND who had that darkness already in them and get them to do almost anything.
