Chamomile

Matricaria chamomilla (shown) | Chameamelum nobile

Known as: Chamaimelon, earth apple, German chamomile, ground apple, heermannchen chamaimelon, maythen, manzanilla, Roman chamomile, scented mayweed, whig plant & wild chamomile

Related plants: There are two species of chamomile, both are in the Asteraceae family (Roman chamomile & German chamomile) with plants that consists of over 32,000 known species of flowering plants in over 1,900 genera within the order Asterales. They are commonly referred to as the aster, daisy, composite or sunflower family. I am from this point forward referring to Matricaria chamomilla in this post specifically.

Parts used: whole flower & leaves

Habitat & cultivation: This flowering plant is native to South-West Asia, Eastern & Southern Europe but can be found on almost continents nowadays. The wild-growing chamomile species normally grow on sandy to loamy soils that are mostly acidic and should be open.

Plant type: Annual

Region: 5-9

Harvest: Can be harvested as soon as blooms have established which is about 10 weeks.

Growing tips: The roots of chamomile are shallow and just barely grip onto the top soil which makes it more sensitive to water conditions during the initial stages of growth when the plant is establishing itself. However once it's established, it is drought tolerant & need about an inch of water a week. Wait until after the last spring frost to add chamomile to your garden. It grows well in raised beds, containers, and in-ground gardens. Space chamomile plants 8 inches apart in full sun for best flowering. In hot climates, an area with partial afternoon shade is ideal.

Medicinal information: Chamomile has been used as a traditional medicine for thousands of years. A mouth rinse with chamomile might relieve mouth sores caused by cancer treatments. Some research suggests that chamomile could help with other conditions, like diarrhea in children, hemorrhoids, anxiety, and insomnia. When used on the skin, chamomile might help with skin irritation and wound healing. Some research has documented that it may be as effective as hydrocortisone cream for eczema.

Cautions: Most experts say chamomile is safe. It can cause drowsiness and, in large doses, vomiting. It also has the potential to trigger allergic reactions in people who are allergic to related plants in the daisy family, although such reactions are very rare. Given the lack of evidence about its long-term safety, chamomile is not recommended for people who are pregnant or chestfeeding.

In Honor of Valentine's Day!

Attracting Love Spell

This is small heart-shaped (or whatever shape you want) satchet/pillow that can be place beneath your pillow, in you pocket or bag, or even kept in your bra near your heart.

Ingredients

Red Salt

White Salt

(Optional) Himalayan Pink Salt

Rose

Cinnamon (Powder Form)

Cloves (Powder or Whole)

Allspice (Powder)

Sigil or Statement of Intention

Red Candle

Dry Daisy Petals (Optional)

Red or Pink Fabric

White or Red String/Thread

Steps

Sew your shape, leaving an opening for the mixture. If you can't sew cut the cloth in a large enough square that you can place the contents in the middle and tie if off well.

In a mortar and pestal grind up your rose petals, cloves, cinnamom, allspice, and chili pepper. Try to not place the daisy petals within this mixture.

Once well mixed, add your mixture of red and white salt. Your salt mixture should be 2:1 herb mixture.

Set aside the salt/herb mixture and prepare your sigil or statement of intention.

Charge the sigil within a red candle for passion and to strengthen your intention.

Once its charge coat your piece of paper or Bay leaf with some of the melted red wax.

Fill your satchet, placing the paper or leaf submerged in the salt/herb mixture.

On top add your dry Daisy petals for luck and or lust.

Seal or sew it shut including your intention into the knots of the threads. And your done! Keep close by you so your spells Magick grows.

Passage from Puukko's Travel Log

I'd ne'er put much thought into flying. Snork has though, it seems. A ship that can fly, quite the thing! Imagine, another golden age fer piracy, all the way up in a different wild blue. 'Cept o'course if ye fall overboard, it's less Davey Jones an' more broken bones. At least the burial's still free! I Imagine the hole you'd make oughta be at least six feet deep. Maybe they ought t' tie rope to one another so they just dangle over the side a bit instead? [A small doodle of a grumpy looking moomin with an eyepatch dangling from a rope in the clouds below a flying ship fills the gap before the next line]

Apologies on the grim jokes. Somethin' 'bout adventurin' brings back a bit o' the old me. Beneath my admittedly cuddly exterior these days, turns out I'm still a rough ol' sea dog at heart. Moominmama stuck a big ol' jar of things in my bag when I weren't lookin'. Lots of thoughtful things, little though they may be. A fine letter, as well. Her handwriting's a mite prettier than mine. Gon' stick it the next page over. She's a kind woman, and I've no doubt within her lies a raucous beast. Her husband writes about his "stormy youth", but I'd bet Moominmama's got some memoirs of her own t' write.

Made landfall somewhere flat and dry in what I assume is Italy. Bound t' be a long trek to civilization, but that's all part o' the journey. Snork dropped me off, headed somewhere else. He said somethin' 'bout "making some adjustments" afore he goes off t' find his precious cargo. It's not often I find myself feeling that perhaps I'm in over me head, but if I'm not over me head, I'm at least over me snout. Got to thinkin' so much on people, and being in a strange place, and whether I'll like the food or what have ye, I ne'er even thought on where I were landing or even where I were going. Fixin' t' make camp fer now and see that I can't find my way toward something a lil more populated come morning. The adventure's only just begun.

I hope you don't mind the intrusion, but I've left with you some treats to help you feel more at home on your journey. I'm sure Moominpapa won't mind missing a pinch of tobacco or a drop from his still. You'll be gone before he notices, anyhow. There's a number of things here, but don't be hasty to enjoy them right away. You'll know when you need them! Stay safe out there, dear. The world's changed a lot since you came to the valley, and pirates aren't quite as common as they used to be.

I hope whatever you're looking for, you find it. Or maybe you're hoping it'll find you.

Hello, I need some help and I think you might have some answers? I went to the river early yesterday and found a bunch of things that the water washed up like jewelry, little statues of elephants and buddha, a statue of a God(?) that says Chango Machu, religious memorabilia and a little red satchet. I got so excited that I picked them all up, thinking this was completely random luck that I found cool stuff. I looked inside the satchet when I got home and there are things that I’m 99% sure are from a spell someone casted- a chocolate heart, coin with the serenity prayer, little clock, tiny metal horse shoe, animal fur etc. I didn’t think twice and threw them out. I’m now realizing I might have done something really bad. Did I mess with this person’s ritual? Am I cursed? I’m completely lost on what to do.

To add on the the previous ask, I still have some of the statues and jewelry. Also, please pardon my ignorance, I searched “Bruja” on tumblr because a lot of the items are clearly from someone of latin heritage and you’re the first blog that showed up. I apologize in advance for anything I said that might offensive.

Well you should know better than that. In absolutely no situation is it correct to just pick up whatever things you find laying on the streets unless it seems to be something someone clearly lost and you intend to give it back. But if it's a bunch of spiritual looking stuff? DON'T TOUCH IT. Specially if you find it in your front yard/porch or the entrance to your house or job, or any other place you commonly go to. Specially not in a graveyard either. I'm worried that nowadays people don't often get proper spiritual education as the first thing you get told by anyone ever is NEVER TOUCH ANYTHING IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHO PUT IT THERE OR WHY. It's as simple as don't get candy from strangers in the streets istg

I have an "am i cursed" post coming up but it's long and I thought I'd put here the main points in the meanwhile.

Unless you were the specific target of that working or there was a clause added to it so that if anybody interferes with it, they'd face consequences, you should be fine... but,

if the working involves calling on, or requesting the aid of, certain patron saints, spirits, entities, gods, etc. like the Orishas, for example, you're risking disrespecting that spirit orisha and thus facing repercussions due to that offense.

What should you do then? get rid of it. PUT. IT. BACK. right where you found it. Cleanse yourself (do a good, deep, powerful bath, just in case) and cleanse your home (if you think something could've followed you in...) then DIVINE. If you trust your own divination abilities, do that, but I recommend:

Consult with a priest of the faith involved to know what the next steps should be. Could be a santería priest, a babalawo, whomever respectable authority of that specific faith (in this case, a faith where changó/shangó is present, thus, orisha faiths) you have access to. Santería, Lukumi, Ifá, Isese, etc. African Traditional and Diaspora Religions. Request a consultation with a Priest or Priestess regarding your spiritual health and ask about this specific situation, they would be able to tell you very specific answers and protocols regarding your current situation and how to move forwards, and how to avoid getting in trouble again in the future.

And please for the love of everything holy, just don't pick up, don't even touch, anything that looks like a spiritual working ever, unless you're an experienced practitioner (or know and trust one) who knows how to deal with the possible consequences.

Let's have a conversation about witchcraft, spirituality and ableism.

First up, let's be super clear that I am going to be very blunt and forward with this, it's blunt honesty not brutal, if you feel strongly against something I'm about to say, go do some shadow work sit with that feeling and start unpacking the beliefs behind it because what I'm calling out is something that does genuine harm to a lot of people and needs to be called out.

There was a post going around of 'if you need to know who around you is negative and doesn't have your best interests at heart, look for who drops things around you.' and my instant reaction was 'Wow, that's really fucking ableist'

Because I have a neurological condition that impacts my hands. I drop a lot of things. I'm also incredibly short sighted and have awful depth perception without my glasses but because I spent so long without glasses struggle to understand the depth perception with them and thus struggle to grab things within relative space. Anxiety can make both of these experiences worse for me, but also I'm less stressed about hiding my disability with people I'm comfortable around, so sometimes I drop things more around my favourite and most loved people not because they're bad for me but because I'm not afraid of them judging me for a tremor or the extreme pain in my hands my condition can cause me.

I also don't often do candle magic anymore.

I have seizures and pass out randomly, if I feel weak and like my body is unpredictable, I will not light a candle and risk a house fire.

I create bio-degradable packet spells sometimes or spell satchets and jars.

Despite the controversy occasionally surrounding both of these in the witchcraft community; they are both safer options environmentally than a house fire in a suburb where houses are close to each other and the property in question has spent a long time growing and building a garden in which many native species on animals regularly find shelter and food.

I also do a lot of alters for my spell work and don't often give offerings or maintenance in a traditional way because it's unsustainable to my health.

I don't meditate traditionally because as someone who's neurodivergent, has C-PTSD and is physically disabled, hyper awareness of my body and breathing is actually counterproductive to my mental health and I find movement necessary to prevent pain and anxiety.

The outdoors isn't always safe for me because my conditions impact my heart rate and blood pressure and I can't afford to be in the heat too long because I will pass out and cold severely impacts my joints.

I also don't use a lot of oils, fragrances or incense due to my family's allergies and because I have a budgie and I care about the health of her lungs.

I often find myself ostracised from the community through ableism, the need to memorise everything, the need to worship in specific ways, the need to be entirely love and light, the need to 'heal' everything.

Not everything different is broken.

Not everything can or should be one way.

There are many different cultures, communities and customs than just yours and they need to be acknowledged and accepted and appreciated, especially when appreciation and acceptance means you don't interact with them with being welcomed in first.

And every member of every community is collectively responsible for one another, and we must acknowledge and accept when things are a problem and hold individuals and the collective accountable for the harm and the change.

So we as a community need to stop shaming and demanding things of others and we need to look at who the advice and teachings we give will harm.

The things we learn in this life will not be free of biases and prejudices we didn't see at first. But it's our responsibility to unpack that and call it out.

Sariel has the most traditional writing, as shown in the way he signs off with the traditional character of his last name, and his birthday asmr has him teaching MC calligraphy. you can see how extremely neat his writing is and the flicks at the end as if he’s writing with a brush.

Evan has messier writing than I expected from a ceo and it leans towards being practical and quick, but still understandable. you can see his decisive line strokes and how his writing is one of the darker ones.

Jesse’s writing is hard to describe but it’s basically very stylistic. on one hand, it’s prettier than Evan’s but on the other hand it’s less legible because of the flair he adds.

Osborn’s writing betrays his personality. just like the way he never adds punctuation to his texts, he leaves out as many lines as possible while still having the word be legible (meaning, if you aren’t good at recognizing the standard form of the word you may not be able to read his writing).

Charlie’s writing is awful, there’s no other way to say it. MC wasn’t kidding when she complained about his writing being chicken scratch in his personal route because it’s basically chinese cursive. he writes in a way where he doesn’t need to lift his pen up even once, but that makes things really hard to read.

Is it better to cleanse crystals with your body (in a satchet over my heart) or with another material that gain that negative energy (selenite, earth, water, salt)? I feel like they both have their benefits, but I worry that that long term cleansing with a substance will routinely return lots of negative energy into one area. That same patch of earth or potentially my body could fill up with negative energy faster than it can disperse it. I...don't love that idea.

Is there some kind of middle or sharing substance that would "digest" the energy, for instance cleansing the crystals in a beer before drinking it? Or only using the same salt to cleanse twice before cooking with it? Then I am sharing this negative energy with another substance instead of one of us bearing it alone.

Is this too much? I wonder if it would work for heavier crystal users.

Armie walked back to his home after a trip to the local cafe. Damn he was in the mood for coffee and had to close the shop to get it. Upon reaching the front door, he looked down to see two small boxes and a letter. Hmm... Now what are these..? Picking them up, he unlocked the shop door and headed inside. He sat the two boxes down, they were wrapped in hearts. “DO I HAVE A VALENTINE?” Armie said aloud to no one, his excitement overtaking him. He grabbed the letter, opening the envelope.

“Oh it’s from Erik!! Oh my god...” as Armie continued to read, he felt himself blush and tremble with even more excitement. “Oh shit! This boy likes me, actually likes me!” He gave the love note another read, relishing in it. Erik was a part of the the friend group he hung around with, and was definitely attractive. He’d caught himself multiple times checking Erik out. He also had a heart of gold.

Armie opened one of the boxes, face lighting up. “Awh.. he even got me chocolates. Two boxes to be exact!” He ate some as he daydreamed, sipping his coffee. I should get him something.. Looking around the shop, his eyes settled upon the basket of sea glass. He chose the most blue ones and grabbed a little satchet to put them in. After writing up a love letter of his own, Armie grabbed his coffee and headed out the door, flipping the closed sign.

He walked with purpose to Erik’s home, hoping he would be there. He gave a light knock and waited. Luckily, he heard footsteps reaching the door. After a quick unlock, there was Erik, surprised to see Armie.

“Hi, Erik. I got your chocolates.. and letter. It was so nice of you! So I wanted to bring you something as well!” He handed him the small satchet and card, his hand lingering on Erik’s..

“Happy Valentine’s Day, Erik”

Soul Connection Spell

YOU WILL NEED:

Blue Candle: communication/patience

White Candle: unity/peace/balance

Pink Candle: love/friendship/emotions/intimacy

Tag-Lock from both participants

Colored Ribbons to represent each participant

Rosemary: love/dispelling negative energy

Lavender: peace/harmony

Catnip: happiness/love

2 pink satchets

THE STEPS:

Light your candles, place the white candle between the pink and blue.

Take your tag lock of the other person, and the ribbon that represents them. As you tie the ribbon in a bow around the tag lock:

“Two souls are entwined, one is yours and one is mine. We’ll keep each other close to heart, and nothing can break our love apart.”

Seal the bow with the blue and pink candle wax.

Add your taglock, and herbs into the satchet. Tie off with another piece of ribbon representing your other person. Keep your satchet of your other person in a sacred place.

While you allow the candles to burn out completely bond with your person. This can be by playing games, watching a movie together, etc.

Quietly does he sing to himself, breaking into a soft hum as he pours boiling milk into a mug with a small satchet of herbs nestled on the bottom. For a moment does he set the mug aside, reaching for a small bowl of sugar cubes and plucking two from the pile to drop into the steeping cup. He reached to place a small spoon into the cup stirring the contents a few times to mix the dissolving sugar into the concoction before lifting the little bag of tea herbs and pressing the spoon against it to drain. Ro turned, only to yelp and freeze at the sight of somebody in the doorway.

“A-apologies, w-was I too loud?”
