luffy has always been a sort of religion to the straw hats. his laughter is his light is his love is his joy, and he spreads it with glee wherever he goes.
the sunny is infused with his will, his freedom, and every breath they take, every pledge they make to him, every delighted laugh at his playful antics, every quietly uttered aye, captain — each is a prayer in and of itself. their dinner table is a shrine filled with offerings and the ship is the church in which they worship but never kneel, because luffy would not be luffy if he and his nakama were not equal.
all those that he meets become devoted to him and his cause, entranced by the blinding warmth of the bouncing god shaped like a boy who laughs and laughs and embraces them with arms that feel like coming home. to ally with him is a pilgrimage, following in his sandaled, flame-bright footsteps as if tracing a delicate prayer through sun-warmed sand. those who he protect may bask in his warmth, but his wrath burns white-hot and tastes like ash in the mouths of false gods.
his laughter is a soldering barrage that marches on and on, howling beat loudly, heart! joyboy, joyboy, the burnbright sun has returned! but, oh, whispers the sky, he has been here all along! he has lived in the quiet prayers of his nakama, because he was their god long before he was nika, because his grin is a promise and his guffaw is a war cry, and the road to freedom is paved by his rays.
luffy is-the-sun-and-has-been-the-sun-and-will always-be-the-sun, and when his family worships him he will always worship them right back. a god, after all, is built not only on the belief of others but the belief of a god in those most dedicated to him, and the delicate reverence that nestles in the nooks and crannies of the sunny is anything but one-sided.

imagine being someone at new rome university and not knowing percy is the same guy as “percy jackson, son of poseidon, two-time hero of olympus, former praetor” because the thought doesn’t even cross your mind. like… he’s percy. he’s a total frat boy. on a normal night, he walks into a party, refers to everyone as bro or dude, socializes with every living (and not-living) person in the room, makes at least 50 sarcastic comments, plays 12 rounds of beer pong, drinks way too much, and then skates around campus on his skateboard yelling “I LOVE NEW YORK” (which makes no sense, because they’re in california) until someone calls his girlfriend to come get him.
and then one day there’s an attack, and frat boy percy is all of a sudden a fighting machine. he’s yelling battle cries alongside the praetors frank zhang and hazel levesque as they lead everyone into battle. (why is he with the praetors? and why…. why in the world do the praetors seem to be following his lead?) his sword slashes through armies of monsters faster than you’ve ever seen. he’s controlling the entire river surrounding the camp, creating huge waves as tall as skyscrapers that crash down all around him, wiping out monsters and causing mass destruction to his enemies’ ranks. the sky is suddenly dark above you, ice-cold water droplets are slashing through the air, and the wind is blowing so aggressively that it’s making it hard to stand up steadily. because he’s somehow created a hurricane.
and he looks terrifying. you can feel the power radiating off of him. he’s like a god. or maybe a monster. it’s hard to tell. you’re a little scared of him, to be honest. but also in total awe, because it’s extraordinary. he’s extraordinary.
frat boy percy is not who you thought he was.

Ncuti rly just rocked up trouserless, played a high-stakes game of catch, told his younger self to get some fucking therapy, cloned the Tardis (HELLO?), and left to go clubbing. Iconic behaviour. No notes.

my absolute favourite thing about the kirk and spock dynamic is that the whole time you’re watching the show spock is gaslighting you into thinking that kirk is this loose canon and spock is paragon of logic keeping his captain on the straight and narrow when its very clearly the other way round. aside from being turned on by everyone and fighting like an old-timey boxer…. kirk is just like.. quite a logical, stable guy. like yeah he rules with his emotions but he’s rarely reckless or erratic, even in situations of immense pressure he’s always calm and measured. sure kirk is unhinged and insane, but we knew that right off the bat. spock on the other hand tries to hide how insanely balls to the walls crazy he is by standing next to jim and hiding all his derangement with logic. i think the reason bones beefs with spock so much because he is the only one who has noticed that spock is an absolutely unhinged individual. (jim is too busy doodling <3 mr jim spock <3 all over his briefings to notice)
