You know what, the UK might be pretty shit atm, but you've gotta admit that switching straight from the fireworks to Rick Astley singing Never Gonna Give You Up, then doing a (pretty gay) duet of You Spin Me Right Round is legendary and absolutely the best New Year's celebration this year so far!
Happy New Year's, everyone!

First chapter of my New Year’s Eve fic has dropped!
Steve and Eddie's New Years Eves throughout the years, as they finally figure their shit out. It’s a slow burn. Some hurt/comfort to come.
Warnings: just a little drinking
Excerpt:
Midnight had come and gone. It was officially 1988.
The Hideout was close to empty, aside from the other bands playing. Everyone had other places to be at 12:45 on New Year's morning. Most of the bands playing at the Hideout's open mic night were metal cover bands, although there were some punks, and a group of bikers who did Springsteen classics. Everything about the music was heartfelt. Eddie joked about being a cynic, but as far as Steve could tell, metal music was some of the most sincere and unironic music he’d ever heard. It made him deeply uncomfortable. All of these grown men were getting on the stage and singing about their sadness, or their anger, or how much they loved witches and demons and darkness and stuff. One band had even sung a song that went “die die die die die”. Steve couldn’t say he liked the music, but he had to admit that the bands looked like they were having fun.
“And now… Corroded Coffin!”
The band trooped onto the stage. There was no applause. Nobody seemed to be paying any attention, but Steve was rapt. Eddie wasn’t wearing a shirt under his leather jacket, and his scars glowed silver in the blue light of the stage. He’d put something dark around his eyes that made Steve feel like he was receiving chest compressions. Eddie looked out over the crowd, and Steve ducked his head. For reasons he couldn’t express, he didn’t want to be seen right now.
“Hi,” Eddie said. “This is Corroded Coffin. We’re gonna play you a new song tonight, but it’s not original. It’s a cover of Tom Waits’ song Downtown Train. Which isn’t actually a metal song at all, but, uh… We decided it should be. So we turned it into one.”
