First time drawing Hal, it's sloppy because it's at the edge of the page. But I gave him a crop top so.

Through reading The Dragon Republic by R. F. Kuang I have learned a few things about my world I’m trying/failing to create. The city the protagonists live in doesn’t have many natural defenses through geography, whereas the antagonist’s city does. I mean, I suppose you could see water as a defense, but then you have to consider how advanced naval warfare is in this world (I’d say very for some because there are the Halrose Isles which are close to this city, and they have allies on the mainland, and hence being a string of islands, they need a navy). Right now I know they have ports open for massive amounts of trade (ah, trade, so that means others have ships as well), but maybe some in-city defenses on the water can be thought up. Meanwhile the antagonist’s city has many natural defenses! Do I fiddle with my map when I can and add more natural defenses to the protagonist’s city or do I let it be? (By the way, these cities have names but I have not worked on this in so long, and the map is not easily accessible [thanks, wrist injury], so I do not have the names right now.)

It’s going pretty well, if all goes well I should be able to finish my siren fic by thursday, which I’m really excited for, and I’m almost done with a scene that was difficult to write in my nano wip since it’s centered around a character type I’m not super experienced with. Hi Hal!  It… Honestly right now it doesn’t go.  The words don’t go.  My brain isn’t making them.

I’ve been struggling through my standard 200 a day (but that puts me so, so far behind on what I need for NaNo).

The last week and a half have kinda sucked real-life wise, so my brain has taken that as a reason to check out of creativity.

I’m trying to get it back over the weekend, I cleaned my house, I’ve eaten good food, I maybe bought a few records, hopefully as the night goes on I’ll get some actual proper writing done.

It would be nice to have something to present at the end of NaNo, as I decided it would make sense to bang out the remainder of Safe in the Dark.  Whichever draft number I’m on now.  Let’s call it 9.  9 sounds about right.

What's been your biggest WIP? Like, in terms of how long you've been working on it, how much goes into it

Hmmmmmm, I think For Queen and Country has got to be it! 

I have a couple of WIPs that predate FQAC (Wanderlust, specifically), but in terms of how long me and my partners have been working on it and how much goes into it, I feel like more work overall has been put into FQAC possibly?

FQAC has been an idea to die for, but it’s been a really bumpy ride. @decantae came up with it I want to say... 3 or 4 years ago? It was originally run as a group roleplay on a play-by-post forum where it was too popular of an idea — too much was going on, and it was unsustainable for us, the people running it. The burnout was really intense. The best thing that came out of it was meeting @inconsistentlyontime though!

We’ve tried running it for a group of people a few times, but honestly that sucked the life out of me, which is probably why I’d say I put the most into it? It was really draining, and at times really devastating, to the point where all of that outweighed the joy and the good parts.

I think FQAC is currently on... it’s fifth iteration? Instead of a large group thing, it’s just me, @decantae and @inconsistentlyontime doing whatever we want for it, and I gotta say, it feels amazing. Because it’s just the three of us — two people I adore and have been writing with for years — and because in its fifth iteration, we’ve really had the opportunity to fine-tune, focus and hone-in on certain plots and characters to where we’ve trimmed all the excess, it finally feels fully realized to me.

I’m really excited for where it’s going to go in its fifth version! We have!!! So many cool things going on for it!

We do of course, have to write it now.

What's your favourite thing about your WIP?

I like how it’s a cocktail of things from all my favorite stories and games and stuff, I really like the aesthetic of it and I love how obsessed I am with it so I can write it and not get bored lolol

What's your plan for Nanowrimo? Are you entering? What will you work on?

I am planning on entering, as I have for almost every year since 2012! Whether or not i succeed is debatable, but I want to try to at least get some words down.

I currently have two WIPs, Lost Girls (a YA contemporary coming of age story that I actually did last year, but I'm working on the rewrite), and my first proper WIP, Paper Hearts (a YA mystery featuring small towns, secrets, and much more!). I got burned out on writing it, but now I think I'm ready to try again.

Have you written a character you hate? If so, who?

There have been characters that I hate but not that I’ve hated writing. Ranver, the main villain of Legends of Casteval, is an absolute monster, is conniving and prone to theft, but he’s such a joy to write because of his charisma and just how interesting he is. I still intend to write him his own story, eventually, since in LOC he mentions that he was in a book about vampire bounty hunters before he became a character in the main story.

I finally managed to figure out the plot problems that I’ve been struggling with for more than half a year now, too! Which still feels like an amazing achievement. Now I can finally just write in peace and not have to worry about writing stuff that doesn’t work in the long run :’) 

But yeah, I'm pretty sure I won’t reach my original goal (which was to finish the whole 3rd-draft-rewrite) but still, even if I only get halfway it’s been worth it. Just knowing that the plot problems are gone is worth it :’))

I might just write that Robin Hood/King John story. Just for @writtendevastation. As a treat.

Hows this new WIP coming along?

so far it’s at an exciting stage where i have almost nothing written down and a flux of post-apocalypse ideas, so i’m hoping to sit down today and make some progress! i have the two mains (half-wild necromancer Alnilam and her diplomatic knight Akos) and glimpses of a couple scenes (they do, at one point, spend time in a desert). small potatoes ready for the cooking!

My story WIP is about an elf teen mc, around like, probably 16-19, who, with their friends, explore this seemingly normal house, when one of them pushes a button... nothing happens... yet

Then next thing you know, Francis, the mc, and a few of his friends now live with a few humans that escaped a laboratory due to a chain of events just because of them pressing the button.

(Also there's romance uwu)

I won't reveal everything (due to many plotholes that I need to fix) so yeah,, owo
