me, rewatching the lost fable: hm. the GoL said that oz had to bring all the relics together to summon him and his brother. but... he did. he had them all 80 years ago when he was the last king of vale and he put them under the schools. wouldnt then be the perfect time theoretically? like he just won a world war and had so much control and unity that he was able to establish schools in all four kingdoms and culture and life was blooming across all of remnant??? i guess we dont really know the situation with the Faunus but to be fair, the GoL said *Humanity* had to be united specifically. does oz have to do a little ritual dance to get the relics to summon the gods? is it not enough to simply possess them all and use them to bring the world together under your brief rule once you win the world war?

(A different kind of love story in a different kind of au)
“I have loved you every day for a thousand years,” Salem said as she lit a small brazer in front of a shrine, staring into the fire that illuminated an old picture of Ozma.She took a deep breath and ran a blade across her hand, squeezing it as she bled into the fire, watching the flames turn a deep purple as it mixed with the grimm essence that tainted her. “And I’ll love you for a thousand more. Today, I’ll end the curse that has separated us and allow for us to be together again.”
The fire grew as Salem took a step back, watching as the shrine was engulfed in the purple flame, her eyes glowing as she watched all of her ties to Ozma burn in front of her. A smile crossed her lips as she watched the smoke rise and start to form into the figure of a person. She held her hand out, gripping the “hand” of the smoke figure as everything started to solidify.
The figure gasped for breath as the smoke became a body, panting as he dropped to his knees and moved his hand around the stone floor. “Where… where am I?” he asked, voice hoarse as he spoke between breaths.
Salem knelt down next to him and placed a hand on his back, gently rubbing it. “You’re home, dear.”
Ozma finally caught his breath and looked around the dimly lit room to gather his senses. His vision cleared up as he looked over his hand, seeing pale skin with black veins that crawled up his arm. He moved his fingers, trying to get used to the movement again as he turned to look at Salem. “Home?”
“Yes, home.” Salem stood up and waved her hand, lighting up the sconces on the wall. “Its not much, but its what we have since the gods betrayed us.”
“Betrayed us?” Ozma stood up and looked at his reflection in the mirror, black and red eyes looking back at him as he touched his face. “I… I dont understand. The gods were helping us-”
“And then they betrayed us, betrayed humanity. First, they took you away, jealous of the power that you had. When I asked them to bring you back, they cursed me with immortality, tossing me away like nothing but a toy. I spoke to the other kingdoms about what they did to me, the curse they inflicted, but by then it was too late. The gods wiped our humanity from the face of the planet, leaving me alone and cursing me to become one of the grimm.”
“Our humanity… what do you mean by ‘our’ humanity?”
Salem opened a window to the cottage to let in more light, motioning to the books on her bookshelf. “A second humanity has taken the place of ours. However, they’re missing magic and guidance, just a former shell of what we used to be.” She paused as she looked out the window, watching a flag wave in the distance. “But together, we can give them what they lack. We can guide them, provide magic, protect them… be gods for them.”
“Gods? We cant be-” Ozma held his chest for a moment. “-be gods.”
“But we can.” Salem moved to Ozma, gently holding him to support him. “You are proof that death can be defied, that the old ways that the gods held dear can be dismantled and we can usher in a new order to life, one where no one has to risk losing the ones they love.”
“But what if the gods return?”
“They left us, abandoned us once they wiped humanity from Remnant.” Salem gently placed a hand on Ozma’s cheek, smiling at him as she held him close. “The gods arent planning to return, and if they do, we can stop them. Together. But first, we need to finish bringing you back.”
“Finish?” Ozma asked. “I… I thought I was brought back.”
“You were, but the spell brought you back without a piece of your soul. But dont worry, my dear Ozma, I’ll help make you whole once more.”

Salem standing over a bruised, and beaten, Jaune Arc bound to a chair. Preparing to interrogate him for information on the, Relic of Destruction.
Salem: I do find torture quite ineffective as a means of extracting information. So I choose to use more refined methods of information.
Jaune: Like… Grimm mind bugs that dig into my brain to get information?!
Salem: No.
Jaune: Oh that gods…
Salem: The shock from the bug going in kills them before anything can be extracted.
Jaune: Eh?!
Salem: Besides I have a far more effective means of getting information.
Jaune: Like what?
Salem: I can read minds.
Jaune: You can?!
Salem: I can.
Jaune: If you can do that, why did you beat, Oscar to a pulp instead of doing that?
Salem: Ozma.
Jaune: …
Jaune: Fuck that’s a good reason… B-But, you shouldn’t read my mind!

Salem stared at, Jaune in the eyes, as a pearlescent screen covered her eyes as she stared into the depths of, Jaune’s.
Salem: “Now then, lets see what you’re trying to hide~!”
Jaune: P-Please … Stop!
Jaune could hear her voice in his head, he yelled in fear as she opened a door leading to that secret he was trying to keep away from her.
She smiled as she forced her way through the door, and as she entered the room in his mind her smile swiftly fell.
Salem: “W-What is this?”
Salem: “ … “
Salem: “Wait… i-i-is he kissing me?!”
Salem: “Why is he taking his shirt off?!”
Salem: “Ohh~! D-Did he just grab my b…?”
Salem: “Why is he taking his pants… Oh…? Oh my~!”
Jaune: What’s going on?!
Salem: “Really? Do you think you can so easily bed a, Queen with just that”
Jaune: B-Bed?

Salem red eyes came back into view. She stared at, Jaune as she stood up, unsealing the bands that bound him to the chair.
Jaune rubbed his wrists as he watched, Salem take a nervous step away from him as a shy blush spread across her face.
Salem: Y-You said your name was, Jaune right?
Jaune: Yeah…?
Salem: So… do you want to try beating your mother record now, or would you prefer if we waited till after you’re body has healed?
Jaune: What are you talking…?!
Jaune stopped talking as he noticed something peculiar.
Jaune: “Why is she rubbing her thighs like that? The last time I saw a woman do that was when, Terra ask me to…?! Oh… Ohhhhhhh!”

Jaune is the same, except he's Irish, so he's barely eligible. And when a usra bites him, it dies of alcohol possession. Beacon discover his tolerance for alcohol when he chalinges the school to a drinking game for 10$ each. Back to back, he wins. Even beating qrow.

( The epilogue of v9 was "released" but the episode wasn't even finished, it was still in the storyboarding process, I don't consider it an epilogue, it's just something to draw attention to itself )

ozma didn't know what his reincarnation would actually entail when he accepted and over the years he has come to accept the merge as inevitable even as he learned to live with his hosts instead of just taking over, but now he's fighting against the merge as much as oscar whose eyes flash the same green as his magic, the same magic oscar doesn't want to use because it makes the merge happen faster.
salem chose cinder to be her vessel for the maiden powers, the powers that make cinder useful, the powers needed to open the vaults that, if the gods were being literal about salem walking the planet's face as long as it turns, she would not be able to enter on her own either way, giving cinder a grimm arm to help with the task, the grimm arm that she has control over and can use to harm cinder, the grimm arm that keeps spreading causing more damage to cinder's body.
ozma didn't know. salem chose. something about knowledge and choice and control???

RWBY contains surprising amount of Norse allusions in the story (and funny part is that almost none of them center around Nora, who's primary allusion is Norse god). Everything from Oz being Odin, Beacon being Valhalla, Branwen siblings being Huginn and Muninn, Pyrrha being Baldr, Tree in Ever After being Yggdrasil, and so on.
However, I want to focus on Salem as Loki allusion and her Grimm hybrids.
While relations wise Salem doesn't make much sense as Loki (since Odin's wife was Frigg), Loki does share ancient past with Odin that latter is embarrassed to admit. This of course parallels back to Salem being Ozma's "little" secret he keeps from his allies.
Outside of that, both Loki and Salem seek to overturn order of Gods and cause a Doomsday. Loki also nicely parallels Salem's title of Queen of Grimm by being father (or mother in Sleipnir's case) of monsters that would end up causing Ragnarok. Those children being Fenrir, Jormungandr and Hel.
Hel and Fenrir were already featured in the show, being Cinder and Hound respectively. Cinder has visual similarities with Hel: Mask and Grimm arm (as well as her asymmetrical clothing style) parallel to Hel's half flesh, half blue skinned appearance. Both are also self proclaimed rulers that were cast down at very young age (Cinder symbolically, Hel literally). Hound, just like Fenrir is massive wolf that devoured Odin/Oscar. Their deaths are also relatively similar: Hound was crushed under statue while Fenrir had its jaw crushed by Vidar's heavy boot before being stabbed.
Unlike Salem's other creations, Hound and Cinder are hybrids, which gives them elevated position. If we go by that logic, then third harbinger of Ragnarok, Jormungandr, should also be a hybrid and major threat narratively. Jormungandr appears as either massive serpent or worm depending on the version of story. This, combined with current Vacuo setting makes me believe that we might see Jormungandr in the show as massive Grimm sand worm. While Jormungandr was aquatic being, there is no appropriate setting for that in the show and it would come way too close to Leviathan from Volume 6. So why not bust out a sand worm, after all, desert is sea of sand.
At its core it will likely be another silver eyed warrior, although I don't think this will be Summer. Since potential Grimm Summer would be an allusion to Red Riding Hood's devoured grandma, If they ever make a Norse allusion for Grimm Summer it's more likely she is gonna be a Garmr, ultimate hound of Norse mythology and guardian of Hel's gate (this could be a parallel to implication that Summer was the one guarding conquered Beacon). It's the only opponent at Ragnarok that doesn't seem to be referenced in any way. Garmr's opponent at Ragnarok was Tyr (who parallels with Yang) so it makes sense narratively as well.

“What’s more important than here?”
Aight, RWBY Beyond just dropped two seperate episodes but here’s but my take on the bit we got about Tai.
Now I’m entirely of the opinion that the Crown is either super fucking annoying to find in Vale, hiding in a hole in Patch, or somewhere out in Menagerie and that’s why there’s so many Grimm out there.
We saw in V8 Tai was still in Patch, not in greater Vale so either
1. With Beacon being inactive and Pharos being in central Vale which is likely still a Grimm hotspot, Signal is the only combat school in all of Vale. Tai himself is a pretty powerful Huntsmen with him being STRQ and considering that Yang is one of two people to hit Salem and still be living he’s a pretty great teacher.
2. He did end up in Vale after the broadcast and is defending the Crown/trying to clear out Vale.
3. He’s on some important task no one knows about, because Ozma still likes his secrets
I do believe Tai wants to be in Vacuo, he wants to see the daughters he likely thought were dead. Keep in mind it’s also been almost three years since Tai even saw Ruby after she ran away. Last he knew Yang was looking for her, he may or may not have received Ruby’s letter, and then he gets the cutoff broadcast.
Then he likely got the news they were never coming home.
It’s impossible to believe that he’s also just unreachable, Raven has that man on GPS at all times. Something is keeping him where he is, something more important to the mission of saving the world than seeing his newly alive kids.
4. I’m also not willing to rule out that he’s the one who entered the Ever After, because this motherfucker looks too much like Jaune or could just be seen as Yang with short hair from far away. Least likely theory I’ve ever had with my one piece of evidence being that Tai literally has his Emblem tattooed on his body showing how sure of who he is. But Somewhat has no clue who Tai is so I’m just leaving all possibilities open no matter how unlikely.
5. Im also not able to leave out that Salem could’ve had Tai kidnapped. Either by herself for her own agenda of some sort or by Tyrian who is consistently ready to mess up Qrow’s life.
6. My other idea is that yeah, he’s on his way to Vacuo. After The Fall lets us know it’s a few weeks trip on foot from Beacon to Shade, and RWBY+J don’t seem to have gotten back more than maybe four-two weeks earlier. Unlikely because Raven probably went to him to be like “yo (y)our kid(s) are alive” and if he wanted to go back he would have
All in all, I’m for the idea that Tai is the dragon protecting the treasure, the treasure likely being the Crown no matter where’s it at. He wants to be with his daughters, with Qrow and trying to save the world with his family. (Tho I don’t imagine he’s keen on doing so with Raven four feet away he’ll make do) But despite wanting to be with those he loves he’s being kept away for the greater good of the world because keeping Remnant safe is much more important than his personal feelings

yeah yeah, the ruby-salem grief weapon parallel, we've all seen it
salem offers up the staff as a votive to the god of darkness after telling him of her story and what she hopes to receive in return. he deems this a fair bargain and grants her wish; salem drops the staff at his feet and rushes to ozma's side. do ut des. this is an act of prayer, of worship. salem knows what she's doing—she's pious—and does everything correctly.
(including making an offering of something she must have put some serious thought into: she gives the god of grimm her most precious possession and a token of her suffering.)
and what she asks for in return is ozma's life. the staff was precious to her only in ozma's absence, because it represented her lost love. had the god of darkness answered no, salem would still be obliged to leave the staff in his domain—just as she left light his flowers, you don't take back an offering if the god's answer is not to your liking—and to part with it and walk away empty-handed would have been devastating. but the moment she sees ozma again, the staff means nothing; she lets it fall from her grasp without a thought.
she chose to make herself vulnerable to that pain, offering darkness her own heart as a fair sacrifice for the mere possibility of ozma getting to live. and he tells her to rise and see her faith rewarded.

ruby is in pain. ruby is grieving and boiling in guilt because penny died again and ruby could do nothing to save her again. the sword is all she has left of one of her best friends. and then she offers it up to the toy soldiers—who have come to take them to the red castle—in exchange for, er… being taken to the prince's birthday celebration so that she can present the sword as a gift.
why?
"look, we may not know exactly what's going on, but for whatever reason, this place is putting us on a similar path as a book we all read as kids. i say we follow it—and stop pretending we know what we're doing."
the consequence of this choice of course is that any emotional or spiritual significance this offering might have had is elided by the toy soldiers' grift and the red prince is a child who throws the sword away in a fit of pique: "how could you!?" ruby whispers, before swallowing that pain and stunting around in a scramble to keep the story on the "right" path.
<- fate.
rolls over again.
salem had faith. ozpin believes in fate.
faith is—asking. trying. communion with something greater than oneself. but to believe in fate is to believe in a single narrow path which must be followed no matter the cost because…because.
this is what "look how you've diminished" is about. how you've lessened yourself—and for what? ruby tears out her own heart in a futile effort to appease a spoiled child who kicks it away out of utter indifference—and for what? because the story said so. because she's afraid. because she doesn't know what else to do. she's lost her faith.
