Because alll the reddits with fic recs are down in protest of the reddit APIs or something (godspeed, I don't understand what's happening there but I hope your protest works!)
Does anyone have some HP longfic recs? Can be old or new fics, on any sites, just leave a reply/ reblog addition in the notes!
I'd love some longfics with good!Snape or morally interesting Snape, and I enjoy Runaway Harry stories, but honestly I'll read anything, the last fic I loved for example had Harry literally being a dragon(??) So yeah if it's long and well written hmu! ×overs are cool too!
Best would be links but title+author works too!
Feel free to share, maybe we can create a collection of best HP fics here!

I’ve spent the entire morning outlining all the summer chapters for As Potter is to Snape part 2. Chapter 7 is well on its way!!
And I think I’ve decided to change its name to something different.
A couple of notable options are:
Adding a Malfoy (probably my favorite)
And Then There Were Three
Harry Potter and the New Brother
(I’m clearly not worried about giving away spoilers. Readers have been asking for this since part 1.)
Anyway, what do y’all think?

Prompt:
In order to regain control over Harry, Dumbledore orders Snape to put a controlling potion in his food.
Snape is not happy™️ with this, but does as he’s told. It’s not his fault that Dumbledore didn’t tell him to pour it out of the bottle before serving it. 😇

Greasy Hair
Everyone knows how Snape's hair is greasy, and a large percent of the fandom kind of demonises that. I personally think there's nothing wrong with greasy hair, and I'm saying this as someone who hates putting gel. I wonder, what if he keeps it greasy on purpose?
Just a funny idea I came up with. Say Snape has a genetic magic thing where his hair has a mind of its own and moves around to disrupt whatever he's doing or randomly attacks people out of the blue, and the only way to keep the hair from moving is applying grease or gel on it everyday. Every Prince had to put gel on their hair, or some kind of sticky substance to keep their hair from getting out of control.
I have a thing for hair manipulation in general (as you would see in my alien reader post), but I couldn't help but think this would be a funny scenario. Like Malfoy has attempted at giving Snape a hair makeover only to have multiple strings of hair swatting his face with Snape calmly saying "It doesn't like strangers." after which his hair wasn't brought up again. If anyone in Malfoy's inner circle were to bring it up he would give them a panicked warning.
I'm probably projecting, might make a fanfic out of this.
This post is also a good excuse to put some Yukako gifs.

Some of my fav harry potter fics are ones where Harry's abuse is more prominent in the way he acts and his habits.
And big scary Professor Snape is put in charge of him cause the Dursleys aren't fit to. And they have an adorable relationship....eventual Snape adopts Harry stuff.
Definitely my comfort fics...

Been reading some Harry Potter Fanfics and was thinking about how awful the Marauders were as kids and how awful Snape was as an adult to children and wanted to fix that.
James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter of course all hit it off immediately and form the Mauraders first year. They spend the first year bullying him. But maybe Remus notices how Severus might be treated for being a half blood by other Slytherins, maybe he goes over to Lily's for some study over the summer holidays (I always pictured Remus and Lily getting along like a house on fire) and sees how miserable Severus is. He owls the other Marauders and manages to convince them to stop bullying the boy. James might cave just to get closer to Lily.
Second year happens and the boys are nicer and they learn more about him, actually sympathize with him (Sirius being ostracized for being a Gryffindor and finding out Remus a werewolf- which they found out about in their second year canonically). They actually grow to like the Slytherin of their own accord and bring him into their friend group. His sly cunning brings a whole new dimension to their pranks and mischief.
Severus puts together that Remus is a werewolf and carefully confronts Remus. Together they break it to ther other Marauders. Even though Remus gets his wolfsbane potion, Severus starts brewing it just in case, making sure that there is always a backup and to make sure that once they are out of school, Remus will have some.
With Severus' help they also become animaguses in their third year instead of their fifth by asking around the Slytherins and poking in the library (he was less likely to be caught and easily obtained a permission slip to get into the restricted section by his head of house). Snape becomes a bat and maybe takes the name Snivellous or something bat-related [dark wing, half- wing {half blood/ wings}, maybe even the Half-Blood Prince etc] (Know that you animagus form is the same as the patronus but your patronus can change) (the expecto patronum charm is so difficult that it isn't taught in Charms at Hogwarts)
Fourth year Severus confesses that he loves Lily- James doesn't fully know his feelings yet so he goes along with the others bolstering Severus to tell her. Lily and Severus have a nice long talk and it turns out that she only sees him as a brother figure- that maybe he latched onto her because she was the first person to be nice to him. Their friendship is a bit shaky for a bit, and maybe Severus even talks with Minerva (he's part of a friend group with her lion cubs of course she's gonna help him and Severus sure as hell isn't gonna ask Slughorn for help). It definitely helps and while it stings for a long while, he comes to terms and figures out maybe it was just attraction because she was nice.
Fifth year Lily finds out about Remus and takes the Marauder oath and becomes an animagus as well. (A doe)
Sixth year James takes Severus aside and asks him if he is comfortable with him asking Lily out. Severus, fully accepting of his relationship with Lily and happy with it, gives James his blessing as Lily's surrogate brother.
After they graduate James and Lily get married and have Harry. They make Sirius the secret keeper, but he denies, knowing that the Dark Lord will know and be after him and insists unknown, keeps-his-head-down, shy Peter should. Soon enough both Sirius and Severus, surrounded by Slytherins who are associated with Voldemort, suddenly suspect Peter and go after him together. Severus even volunteers to join the Death Eaters and ends up doing so to spy, no matter how hard Sirius and Remus raged. Peter still ends up getting away and both Severus Sirius are persecuted but Severus presses for Vertasium and the checking of the wands. Both are cleared but are too late to save James and Lily, Dumbledore making sure to vouch for Severus being a spy.
With Remus, Sirius, and Severus all fighting against Dumbledore putting Harry with the Dursleys, claiming that the Potters would never put Harry with the Dursleys and that Severus and Lily were basically siblings and James and Sirius were basically siblings, they fight and win. While being related by Blood is powerful, as stayed many times in the books, love is more powerful than blood and thus their charm that Lily managed with her sacrifice worked much better for Harry when placed with James and Lily's chosen family, with Harry's three godfathers
Sirius and Remus get together and raise Harry, with Uncle Severus visiting quite often. Remus gets a job at Hogwarts with Severus after the War. Severus actually enjoys potions, bolstered by the fact that he helped his found family with them. He becomes a beacon for abused children across Hogwarts. Remus helps in the library and care of magical creatures with Hagrid, helping to curb his more,,, adventurous tendencies and maybe encourages him to get cleared. Hagrid gets cleared so Lupin teaches half the month and Hagrid the other for werewolf and taking classes reasons respectively. Maybe this gets Remus to fight for werewolf and such magical creatures rights- and while paranoid, a lot of people who were Death Eaters got outed out of the Ministry, so it made it easier to show that they need to bolster their numbers and such bigotry caused this war in the first place. (Lupin still fills in for the third year, but only for that year) Sirius gets dragged by a Severus to start a dueling club- the two bonded over the feeling that they were too late and wanted to do better so they became the best duelers. They also enjoy shattering house stereotypes and foster inter-house unity.
Hogwarts is thus a much better place for Harry. Maybe Severus beat some sense into Lucius and Narcissa and Draco turns out much less snooty, and he actually becomes friends with Harry and the rest of the Golden Trio. Slytherin isn't the terrorist house that JKR has made them out to be and there is such inter-house unity.
With all the work, more Slytherins and the werewolves and other magical creatures fight for the Light in the second war, everything doesn't full on Harry bc he tells his Moomy and Dadfoot and Uncle Sev stuff bc he can actually trust adults. Severus isn't killed by Voldemort bc Remus and Sirius are there for him and Sirius would never let his dueling bro down.
No more racist, transphobic, abuse-condoning, terroist-labeling shit from JKR and Snape nor the Marauders are trash ppl in the end.

this says a lot about Snape's character development for me. There are many parallels drawn throughout the series between Harry and Snape; obviously, they're very different characters but there are similarities too.
I think here Snape is talking about himself. The teenaged Snape we see in the Pensieve is very much like this- emotional, heart on his sleeve, easily provoked, a definite wallower in sad memories... weak. Adult Snape, though he retains some of these characteristics that do emerge in stressful moments (in PoA we see how angrily he reacts to Sirius's escape, for instance) on the whole is a great deal more thoughtful, reserved, calculating, measured.
I think that Snape at some point had to force himself to become this. I think he actually relates to Harry here, and is giving him advice based on personal experience. In my fic he begins to learn to control his emotions partially out of a desire to protect Lily; he's fully aware that she's his weakness (or really, his strength, viewed a different way) and that openly displaying any sort of emotion towards her at all makes her vulnerable to the likes of Avery and Mulciber, who will have the perfect weapon to get to him if they want to.
Severus doesn't have the advantages of his peers, he's not pureblood, he wasn't born into money. If he wants to join the Death Eaters and rise in their ranks, he needs to be subtle, cunning, careful. he can't afford to be careless and entitled like mulciber or bellatrix or even sirius. what he's got to offer isn't his name or his money, it's his sheer talent and cleverness. moving on:
When Voldemort decides to go after Lily this becomes even more important. Imo the reason why Voldemort believes that Snape only "desired" Lily is because that's what Snape told him. He lied to Voldemort's face and told him something probably disgusting tbh because that's the only way Voldemort would accept it and agree, if it was a selfish, callous request that Voldemort could understand. We can see evidence of this here:
Tumblr media
Asking Voldemort to spare a mudblood because he was in love with her would likely not have gone over well- and as we know, Voldemort actually bore his request in mind, though obv didn't give enough of a fuck about Snape to follow through. Because although asking voldemort to spare her must have taken serious balls, Snape's mistake here was trusting someone inherently selfish to do something selfless for him.
Clearly he immediately realises this and goes to Dumbledore, which is when controlling his emotions becomes of paramount importance, because now he's working against perhaps the most highly accomplished legilimens of all time.
It's also interesting to me that Snape in this conversation is probably the character who is most forthright and informative with Harry in the whole of OotP until Dumbledore at the end; Harry actually learns a lot in this conversation. And Snape also kind of gives him credit which is interesting too:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
like for Snape that's high praise lmao. A shame because if he wasn't so bitter (i.e. didn't wear his heart on his sleeve so much around harry) then he might have actually been pretty helpful to Harry and a decent teacher. Again, during the Occlumency lessons his unrestrained emotion brought up by memories of James is a hindrance. He defies Dumbledore's orders to teach Harry Occlumency because of his emotional response to SWM, as well as honestly doing kind of a shit job before that (by not being empathetic and teaching Harry in a way that would've been actually productive.)
At this point Dumbledore believes that Harry learning Occlumency and controlling his emotions is of vital importance; he turns out to be wrong about this. In Harry's case, it turns out to be his emotional nature that saves him- unlike Snape, who is the opposite. Snape's journey is about learning that some things are more important than his selfish need to give into his own emotions.
By DH Snape's learned this lesson fully; his old hatred for James doesn't stop him from doing what has to be done, from giving Harry the tools he needs. Even in the final moments of his life, he can look past James and see Lily in Harry- and, by giving Harry the information that leads to his self-sacrifice, he can let her go.

Why don't you apologise? (Draft)
I'm gonna start by saying this is a chapter I wrote on this fanfic I'm writing. I'm really happy with this chapter and I'm wondering about the opinions of whoever reads it. The story is on the Archive of our Own website. It's about Fem Severus Snape who raises the son of Sirius Black and doesn't become a death eater. One of the ships is a one-sided Sirius Black/Severus Snape, where Sirius has an obsession with Snape but she doesn't return his feelings. If anyone wants more context I'm gonna slyly suggest (advertise) reading my story. Spoilers: The son in question is named Caesar and Sirius doesn't know it's his son, but believes it's Regulus' son. Caesar was adopted by Snape.
Have yet to see more obsessed Sirius so I'm writing them myself.
Sirius was at home alone, sitting in the living room in silence downing some whisky. The home in question used to be owned by his uncle Alphard, and while Alphard was a purist and dark wizard, he loved his nephew very much, or maybe he hated Walburga that much. As a final middle finger to his older sister he gave everything he owned that wasn't directly connected to the Black lordship to her most disgraced child. It was weird of Alphard to leave him some gold and a home, but he was always the strange one in the family.
Sirius never understood his dear uncle. Alphard and Regulus had the same doppelganger, and Sirius himself had the face of Sirius the 2nd, and was less like either of them. Walburga also made sure he was a walking copy of her. That didn't stop Sirius from theorising, it helped with his investigation skills.
Sirius always hated the leash she kept on him, and Alphard saw that. Alphard discreetly rejected his own father's ways, in what, Sirius had yet to discover. Alphard taught him well, guiding him on how to piss off his own mother. Sirius did every step in understanding glory. He made it his mission to show her who should be in control by doing the opposite of what she wanted, and while a lot of his punishments included the cruciatus he grew accustomed to them. He even grew to enjoy them. This is love isn't it? Walburga did that to show him she loved him.
So Sirius pissed her off even more. He made friends with a Potter, who came from a light family, and joined Gryffindor house, the breeding ground for blood traitors and mudbloods everywhere. What was great about James is that he wasn't like any other light child Sirius came across, there was a familiarity with him. Sure, he turned out to be equally as dark, but you'd think he'd at least try to be light. Remus as well, who was alright for a half blood. Those were Sirius' thoughts at the time. Who knew there was a beast underneath Remus? Sirius secretly admired Moony, the creature could cause so much destruction, and Sirius honestly believed he should let Moony take control more often.
Why did any of this matter? He was going over what his nephew had told him. He knew what he should do, but didn't understand the steps. Even if the answer was clear it was hard for him to get to the point of it.
I was taught that I was showing love. Sirius thought to himself. I know that everything is wrong now, but how much of it was?
"It's not real love you felt for mum." came a voice in the back of his mind. It sounded like Caesar. His nephew. "I read about it. I've seen it. I've felt it. My eyes don't spark up like yours do when I think of my dear Lavender." Sirius didn't recall his nephew saying those things. "There's no way a crush looks like that. I don't doubt that you loved her, but there was no way everything was love."
The intruding voice said it like an echo.
"Grandma didn't love Grandpa, now did she? She only loved the ownership, the power. She claimed him ever since she first saw him, just like Pollux saw Irma. Just like Cygnus saw Druella." He felt a chill. "Just like you saw mama."
Sirius did claim her, this was true. He decided she was his. His darling. A strong woman to break, and when she starts accepting him into her heart he treats her well. It made sense at the time. Surely it still does. Petunia loves hurting him, she likes the pain too. It wasn't bad for them.
"You're just like them. Your family. Insane, carrying some kind of sickness or oddity. And each curse has a counter to it."
As eager as Sirius was, there was no way he'd bed anyone by the age of 13. Sirius didn't hate muggles. Severina was half blooded, his heart decided she was the one, there was no way. Besides, Petunia... The feelings he felt for her were natural. She made him submit.
"Thankfully for her, too bad for you, someone got to her first. Loved her before you could."
Oh, Regulus. Regulus! That dear little brother of his. Death was announced in the daily prophet, Sirius recalled reading the words. They didn't know who the killer was. And then came Orion's passing. Sirius wasn't invited to the funeral but it was right there on the daily prophet. Right after Regulus' own announcement. Sirius didn't understand why it was important for everyone to see, but it was important for him.
How was it for Regulus? Loving her? Was it natural or was it something else? Did he hurt her? There was no way, Walburga hardly saw the point in Regulus, he had Orion's weakness. What was that weakness?
That's why Regulus never had to apologise. He never hurt anyone, physically. James' wife says otherwise, she believed he broke Sev's heart. Nothing Evans said could be trusted, she wasn't that smart, but she knew the most about Severina's past self. She knew that Severina and Regulus went out. She approved. He must've been good to her if Evans approved.
All Sirius did was hurt her, he would know. He enjoyed doing it. He even made up a nickname for the best memory, she never cried afterwards. He hasn't seen her cry since their first year. Looking back, maybe that was best. He didn't deserve that privilege. Seeing a happier version of her was more preferable. She didn't damn him, but she hid her contempt. He saw it in her eyes but with how unreadable her face was he didn't see it, too busy enjoying her presence.
Sometimes it was like looking at a different person.
What else did Sirius do, to have his own nephew confront him about it? He now concluded the pain part, but there was something else. Something else. Something else.
Wait, that night.
That full moon.
He wanted to share his secret with her.
His best friend, Prongs saved her. That was his fault.
She almost died. He almost lost her, that was him. Sirius could never murder his own wife, but that night said otherwise and Dumbledore did nothing about it. He just made it worse. They all deserved to rot in Azkaban.
"That's right, you're getting there. Keep thinking, old man." came Caesar's voice.
I almost killed her.
"Bingo."
"I almost killed her." he said out loud.
If Sirius didn't understand the saying of blood going cold he definitely did now, as the image of those scared black eyes replayed in his mind.

Severus 🐍
Aside from Harry and Hermione, he is arguably the next character whose pov I read about the most (gen or ship wise). Can't help that he's too interesting of a character for me to ignore when written right.
