pt IV good omens but all i know is i watched three episodes on a stream with you all

Three hours being in a server with good omens fans in the wild *insert random emojis to sound like optimum clickbait youtuber except this ain't clickbait*

Okay I woke up. Before everything just WASHES out of my brain, I'm gonna describe whatever happened last night best as I can, because that's what I do.

Some of you were unable to attend the stream, and were sad. But don't worry I got you guys here's the rundown:

people joined the server. people were confused. i was afraid. i was assured that i should be, which was meant to comfort me.

people introduced themselves. someone said they had worked in a brothel as a bartender, which was cool, they said they had many stories. they did not elaborate for fear of scaring the newcomers. The newcomers, aka, me, were already scared, and it was not of the brothel stories.

I brought an emotional support orange with me. It looked uncomfortable. I thought it would be rotten. It was not, but we would not know that until later.

@thescholarlystrumpet entered fabulously, and started the stream.

i didn't realise the show had started for a good two minutes because there was a random voice over that was telling us about Earth's star sign (Libra) and somehow that didn't compute in my brain as being part of the episode. I thought we were checking audio.

It turned out, the episode had begun, and everyone was acting like this is a completely normal way for a show to start.

We time-jumped from the fall of man to modern day society so fast that I got whiplash.

There were a lot of orgasmic noises. I asked why. I was told in no uncertain terms that those were screams of labour. I'm sorry to everyone who has given birth ever.

There were three babies. I tried to keep track, it was hard. I thought the Antichrist won prizes for tropical fish. I was wrong.

I fell in love with Crowley and his hips and was very gay on the chat. This was heartily applauded.

I didn't realise an hour had passed when the episode ended, which it seemed was to be a common theme. I said nothing happened which everyone found funny for some reason.

I was very concerned about Armageddon. Everyone assured me that it would take place over the course of the season. I asked why we'd speedrun through millennia in five minutes but eight days took several episodes. I was a naive fool. Time is a social construct and this show cares not for social constructs.

They fucked up the mission. This was also to be a common theme.

I begged for a break and had to shake my head to try and get the brain rot out. I did not succeed.

The second episode commenced. The intro concerned me, because the cartoon Aziraphale looked pregnant or like a chicken. I asked if Crowley had impregnated him. He had not.

The pornography scene had to be replayed because I was so lost and had not relished it properly.

There was a lot of crying on the chat. Every few minutes someone would say a normal sentence in English and everyone would respond with crying emojis. Needless to say, I was concerned. This was also to be a common theme.

I asked why we were talking about random children. I was told it was The Them and they were the Antichrist's friends. I liked the hellhound.

I wanted to adopt the Antichrist, and grew more thirsty for Crowley every time he was a casual accessory to murder. I'm relying on this fandom not to use this as evidence with the cops. The chat was not reassuring, they said maybe.

I thirsted for Crowley more. This was also to be a common theme.

Aziraphale was very cute, I realised. That was nice. It was not nice when he had gay panic and said mean things to Crowley and they broke up. This was also to be a common theme.

I got so gay for Crowley that I ate the emotional support orange. It was gaseous. The chat was concerned, and everyone got excited every time oranges were mentioned after.

The third episode was a fucking roller coaster. Crowley and Aziraphale were your average high school couple but biblical for 6000 years.

Both were casual accessories to murder, and sometimes the cause of the murders, before going out for a date. Crowley got horny and he stopped listening every time Aziraphale ate. This was also to be a common theme.

The chat was keeping count of the husband breakups. This was not nice.

The Bentley was silver in many scenes, and people were forced to concede that they saw it. I was smug.

Crowley was sexy. She served gender, or as some people in the chat said, she served cunt. Her hairstyles got better and better. No one liked the 60s one. I did. I like everything she does. I love him.

Things happened. The fandom infected me. Someone mentioned how the book said Crowley felt lonely. I was near tears.

Crowley walked down the aisle for Aziraphale. We all were happy.

The book case, the thermos, the bandstand. I was broken.

Everyone said very emotional goodbyes.

I made a post on tumblr that was absolutely incomprehensible but accurately conveyed my love for Crowley. I fell asleep.

Same time next week, I believe.

I hope this was an adequate summary of the livestream for everyone, I am broken irreparably and if anyone mentions the bandstand I will have to start drinking and not stop till I get a happy ending. I cannot afford alcohol. I will ferment grapes myself if I have to.

as a fellow writer, how do you typically plan your fics? i tend to just kind of wing it and figure it out later so i'm curious about what you tend to do

I had so much fun answering this question but I’m so sorry it’s so long of a response akagkagskav

(Also this post contains mild spoilers for both On the Edge of Worlds Unknown and My Blood Between Your Lips on AO3)

Honestly most of my fics start completely winged! Both Brink and Blood were entirely winged for a good chunk of the word count, but I do have a system that I put in place when the fics get too long.

I tend to hit my “winging-it” limit around 25 chapters into a fic, and at that point I look at all the plots currently happening, note them down, and do planning from there. I would love to go in depth on the way I plan writing somewhere as like a video or livestream or something, but to summarise as best I can (which is still kinda long, my bad haha):

Most of my fics are planned by sub-plot (which I like to colour code) and by chapter, which I number. I like to look at what’s happened so far that I’ve winged, and conceptualise the “end point” for those themes/ideas. From there I take it in chunks of planning about 3-5 chapters ahead at a time. To plan those, I note down in 1-2 sentence summaries of what’s gonna happen in each of those coming chapters (I don’t always stick to them, but it’s just my rough guide of what I think should happen to bridge the gap between where the story is and where I want it to end). Once I write those chapters, I reassess where the story is at, and from here I just keep doing that process until I hit the ending I came up with (or one I prefer)!!

As an example, this is my chapter planning list for Blood! (Here is where the spoilers start btw)

Starting at chapter 26 (after that 25 chapter mark) you can see where it’s split into the “hunter subplot” (blue) and “vampire subplot” (red), and the rough summaries for each chapter. I have a similar (if a little more complicated method) for the Brink fics, where I just do the same process of building on chapters across the books (this is the planning from Edge, which because I was building off the final chapters of Brink planning started at Prologue/Chapter 1)

I have some other methods which are more context and fic dependant. For the Brink books I have a spreadsheet that lets me track which date chapters take place on, depending on their colour-coded subplot, because of how spread out it is chronologically (on the right), and with Blood I have a little bullet point list which lets me keep track of which things happen when and in what order in the far more condensed timeline, where several where the whole plot is all happening at the same time over a few days (left).

So yeah!!! I don’t know if this was in any way helpful or interesting or made sense to any brain other than mine lol, but this is generally how I plan most of my longer fics!! I’ve never gotten to like,,, lay it all out and explain it before, so this was really fun!! Like I said, I’d love to go more in depth somehow, but I’m not sure how to do that in text format without it becoming convoluted haha

hello I'm still reading!! and I still enjoy all your work! I think I'm actually going to do a reread soon starting absolutely from the beginning all the way back in the jaskier days and holy cow I just checked and there's SO MANY words thank you for your service ma'am. let's face it this is gonna be better than me scraping the bottom of the barrel steve/tony nostalgia kick I'd been on recently. so, I'm here and I appreciate you <3 I haven't read any of the roche/saskia/ioverth stuff but that's due to my dislike of witcher 2 when I watched someone playing it. I might give it another go - you have some write ups that summarise what I need to know before reading them, please could I have a link to them?

ha, thank you-- and thank you to the various other people who have sent asks-- I still feel absolutely wretched in general but I'm theorizing there must be some underlying cause, and have taken a dose of painkillers, though I suspect there are larger factors at play beyond anything personal here. Answering all the anon asks feels vain but I do appreciate them all. <3 I didn't mean to be all fishy-for-compliment-y but please believe shit is bleak in me-ville today.

This one, I will answer so as to address the question, in case anyone else was wondering, because I have written some cliff's notes to W2, in this post here, cleverly titled Cliff's Notes Version Of W2. And, i actually have watched more playthrough footage since then, largely because a friend livestreamed some, so I can confirm this information is largely correct.

(No shade to the W2 fans, as I've said before; I get why people like it, but I also super get why people super don't. It's, uh, a product of its time, in a lot of ways.)

I also wrote up a more focused thing on Iorveth, more recently, focused around a detail of his costuming but useful as a general primer on his context. Especially useful as Netflix seems to have shed the entire Vrihedd subplot that is unfortunately crucial to the character, ensuring that I really can't cram any of Netflix S2 canon into my stuff. Oh well!

Hello, Fellow Simmers!!

Here is a summary of the livestream of “The Sims 4 Infant Update & Growing Together Livestream” That is 2:34:53 in length. I thought I’d summarise it for people that don’t have time to watch it and some of my opinions!

I did watch the new Infant & Growing Together livestream with SimGuruMorgan, Scott & Nova (I think that’s them? Nova for me is confirmed, please correct me if I’m wrong)

• Under the affection category you can do a fist bump or under the malicious category you can demand the friendship bracelets back

• Sims have a diaper changing table and it works for infants and toddlers (Toddlers only work if they are not potty trained)

• Infants get a Milestone if getting their diaper changed goes wrong such as peeing and pooping on their caregiver.

• You can baby proof gates and toddlers have the interaction of “BREAK LOOSE!” They have a chance to get out and they get an energised moodlet if they succeed.

• 3 new events : Baby Shower, Slumber Party and Family Reunion

• As a reward for family reunions you can get photos of you family and put them in the frames.

Wakana introduces Yuuka in case anyone is not familiar with her. She says it’s like they are at a wedding ceremony or match-making. Together they sing Wakana’s infamous OP theme, the Shark-Song ^_^

First Corner: Impressions of Wakana/Yuuka They asked their musicians about their first and current impression of Wakana and Yuuka. They read out the answers to each other. Yuuka starts reading out what everyone had written about Wakana. It’s so funny how everyone says Wakana is cheerful, dorky and talkative while Yuuka is super calm and reserved, the perfect image of a Japanese woman XD

Q&A Corner: They are going super fast through the questions, sort of like a rapid fire Q&A. Will properly summarise everything later when the archived video is available. Ah, I see, now that it’s done they discuss their answers in a relaxed manner. #1: Do you have a relaxed personality or are you hotheaded? W: Hotheaded #2: If the other were an animal, which one would it be? W: She sees Yuuka as bunny. Yuuka sees Wakana a medium-sized doggie because they are always lively and cute. #3: What do you like to eat in winter? W: Nabe; Yuuka says stew and Wakana can’t help but agree that this is also a great choice. #4:If you could travel to Kyushu together, where would you go? Game Corner 1: Proposal Challenge They are playing a Japanese card game where you play with words. You need to come up with the perfect “Proposal” by combining word cards. They have so much fun that they decide to go a second round XD They were in tears by the end of it because they were laughing so much. Wakana came up with some very weird proposals :P

Game Corner 2: Drawing Game They get words which they need to draw and the other has to guess what the word is :P

Goods Introduction Corner The long-sleeved shirts with the embroidery are so cute. I don’t know which colour to buy, both are adorable! I might have to buy both. Ohhhh, the stolas/scarfs are huge, did not expect that. Definitely getting the pamphlet/stola set with the red one. Oh boy, that plate really IS VERY yellow, thought the image was a bit misleading. Might be the only item I am not getting XD

okay so I’m going to post all of my perhaps the stars thoughts in this one post, under the cut, so they won’t clog up the dashboard/tags. And I’ll just keep editing this one post unless my thought is a joke and I want clout for it. Spoilers under the cut obviously

Like so.

Front matter - I love 9A as a narrator already. They have no idea what’s going on. I love the dramatis personae and just the ?? everywhere.

1 - gosh i love 9A so much. you can definitely tell that they and mycroft have very similar backstories and knowledge bases, but the distinction between the characters is so clear. also 🥺🥺🥺 it has to be a short war. 9A writes like they’re on the verge of tears and I want to protect them with my life (Mycroft writes like he’s in the middle of a breakdown and that’s the difference)

in addition, I love that they said that world war 1 ended in 1945 or 1989. It’s interesting to see how history recontextualises our mostly contemporary events.

2 - Carlyle!!!!!!!! Carlyle is safe and wearing a wrap and they are eating chocolate cake I am so glad. Being this far from Dominic can only do them good. I like that they’ve shown more of what the Anonymous actually does. i understand why the anonymous is so respected if part of their work is done 100% live streamed, typos and all. You couldn’t win the beer test harder. I hope the the Anonymous livestream also comes with a chat function where people can make fun of their typos I think that’d be really funny.

I love how much 9A is a part of the Ancelet-Kosala family they are so loved 🥺 Vivien and Bryar both inviting them to stay at their flat I want to see Vivien’s flat and Su-Hyeon giving them their old deputy sensor jacket was so sweet. I love them, I love their friendship. Also I love that 9A can describe affection and caring for people and be normal about it. This narration is so relaxing.

I hope Martin is safe. Also this is the first time in all four books I’ve actually liked Heloise so I’m going to make that a Mycroft problem.

3 - “I have never been in a place before.” boo hoo do you want me to be sorry? I’m in a place right now. I’ve been in a place this whole time. Jokes aside, I assume this chapter was written before the pandemic but it really does give me strong isolation/quarantine energies.

I’m not sure I love the top down narration of here’s what everyone’s doing in all the places, but I assume that comes with the tragedy of not being able to physically watch these conversations because they cars are down.

I’m gonna do it this way for ongoing thoughts. and chapter style as above for when I come home from work and I summarise what I read

MASON being allowed to pass through Levantine lands makes me think of when you’re playing Diplomacy and Turkey allows Russia to pass through Constantinople to the Black Sea, and now I’m wondering if MASON spent those 128 days playing Diplomacy online with the bois like I do

Nurturist to alt-right pipeline confirmed. A set-set is anyone I personally find weird and the more weird I find it the more set-set it is.

I forgot to write anything for like three chapters but here's just a list of stuff i remember

I love dominic as the Mitsubishi director actually. I think he's thriving. I expected him to shirk his duties as much as possible but he really is going to bat for his guys

9A putting their tracker on busy to avoid bryar, and then her overriding it was very funny

It sucks that the trackers are down. Imagine how that world would look if you lived it :( poor jedd mason. They can't even reconnect the system landline style because romanova is a modern city and doesn't have wires. That's such good worldbuilding

Oh no! Our masonic oath! It's broken! Also IS XIAOLIU OKAY? IS XIAOLIU OKAY???? MASON THEIR HUSBAND IS ALREADY LOST IN THE WILDERNESS HOW MUCH MORE CAN YOU DO TO THEM?

Did 9A not translate the latin from the first few books? Or did they get Carmen to do those passages as well?

9A and Su-hyeon talking around the reveal of Huxley/Toshi was so funny I've been thinking about it all day

9A laughing at latitudinarian but not dick hooker. I hate this book. I know that line was just put in there to make fun of me and I resent it

"mars or first contact?" And "wear the vs with me" made me actively emotional i love huxley and 9As friendship

That being said this is so awkward because i feel like I'm loosely hiveguard? Which seems unlike me but maybe i just think assassination is sexy

9- is it upsetting to know that carlyle is so suicidal at this point that they don't care if they live or die? Yes. But also, 'im suicidal so I'm happy to drag myself down with you' is metal as fuck. I hope you die i hope we both die. Also imagine risking world war because you're a horny rapist. Yikes. Anyway jesus christ sniper really wrote their chapter while experiencing THAT level of torture. I want to kill julia so bad she's so evil. But as a side note I was briefly obsessed with a The Adventure Zone fanfic with essentially the same premise if less overtly rapey so I do kind of love this, on like a I love feeling big feelings scale.

I'm kind of miffed that the answer to 'who kidnapped sniper?' was someone we were told explicitly that it wasn't, and not someone else that we could have foreshadowed. we also need to talk about the whole passive vs active thing - noelle is perfectly capable of making genuine mistakes, but they aren’t a racist, antisemitic, nbyphobic, or otherwise prejudiced person.

note: i say all of this with full understanding that people are capable having internalised prejudices towards their community (eg its fully possible to be butch and perpetuate butchphobic stereotypes, etc). but i also want to point out that in some (NOT ALL) cases, it becomes a matter of perspective. people have different viewpoints/opinions and those are all valid, unless they come from refusing to accept other people’s views/a place of prejudice. personally, i don’t have an issue with dt, but i can understand why other jews + nby people do, and i am willing to listen and give support to them, and i think their opinions are valid.

you probably shouldn’t be having an opinion on what is nbyphobic and.or antisemitic if you aren’t trans or jewish, unless it comes from being genuinely informed on the subject and you’ve actually listened to the opinions of trans and jewish people on the topic itself. otherwise, you’re at risk of coming off as antisemitic/nbyphobic yourself. you start to prove that you prioritise being critical of the media you consume over the opinions and perspectives of real people. you also need to remember that not everyone is going to have the same opinion, and you should listen to as many different (INFORMED) takes on the topic as you can before making an informed decision on what to believe, and even then do NOT speak over the communities directly involved

this is very rambly but. tl;dr it is not your business to tell people what is/isn’t prejudiced against their community when you are not part of their community and doing so in fandom spaces can spread misinformation, which leads to people often stopping paying attention to said community and then treating them like they’re stupid and,,, h.

it’s okay to be supportive of and help out communities but PLEASE i’m BEGGING YOU learn to let us speak for ourselves. PLEASE learn to at least wait for an actual consensus from members of the community before you start to discuss this. we’re grateful for your allyship, but you have to learn that that includes LISTENING TO US. we are not some endangered species, we aren’t stupid, we are real people who know how to recognise our own oppression.

hi! thank you for translating stuff about wind boys for so long! did you see the livestream? if so, what did you think of it?

Yes, I most certainly did! (for those of you who require it, I livetweeted translations for the stream over here). “What did I think of it” is a really broad question, though...so I’ll answer this based on a couple of points that I felt most strongly about. It’s long nonetheless, so I’ll have my opinions under the cut.

Regarding the way they handled the game’s impending release, it may be strange to say this, but I like how they laughed off the fact that it’s already been delayed twice. Some may argue that it’s no laughing matter, and of course they’re right, but hear me out. The delays were to improve on the game, and although I was initially skeptical as to whether that was an excuse for not being able to do things on time, they’ve proven today that that’s most absolutely not the case, and they really were working on it. That’s put me at ease, because it’s a reassurance that they’re serious about their work even if they’re laughing about the time it takes. Personally, I’d choose quality over a fast release at any point in time, and having worked on translations rather early on since the game’s announcement, I feel like I’m able to laugh along with them. I can’t believe 2018-2019′s already old enough to be ‘the good ol’ days’ when the game hasn’t even been released yet, and it’s hilarious how the production staff and the cast think so as well. On that note, I think their creation of the written oath summarises their stance on it perfectly - that they’re laughing about things, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t serious about it.

Regarding the fact that they actually reviewed things. Takatsuka Tomohito (Hibiku’s seiyuu) pointed out that Hibiku’s character has gone through a massive change, from being a Real Snake to a Relatively Nice Guy. It’s clearly something the writers have thought through before changing, and I’m happy that they’re giving such thought into it. (Also perhaps because I may personally like this new version of Hibiku more. Ha ha ha.) It makes me curious about what other changes there have been. There are some changes for sure, if not new information, that’s on the character page on the official website. For example, they used to say that Aoto helps out as a volunteer in his community in his off days, but now the profile notes that he’s a part-timer at his uncle’s jazz cafe, where he occasionally performs. *laughs* I’ll also have to update character introduction translations on my end, I guess.

Regarding the game’s release date, I watched the whole thing expecting they’d announce a specific date by the end of the stream, and they didn’t. Sheesh. But I suppose ‘End 2021′ ought to be good enough... What’s a few more months after a few whole years, am I right. Welp. But the fact that they’re back to campaigning is really promising! I sure hope that they’ll be able to reach their preregistration target.

Regarding the voice actors of our main characters, I’ve thought about this before but I think it’s wonderful how all five of them (Kobayashi Yusuke as Minato, Uchida Yuma as Takara, Murakami Kohei as Soshu, Toya Kikunosuke as Osei, and Takatsuka Tomohito as Hibiku) all have experience playing their characters’ instruments. I don’t know if it’s intended but, it sure gives them a sense of attachment to this work. Now, I’m not a Takatsuka oshi so I don’t know a lot of works he’s in, but I can tell from all the times he’s talked about this work on twitter and that day on the stream that this work’s got a special place in his heart. Which I feel is amazing, considering how he’s already so attached to THE IDOLM@STER SideM. As for Kobayashi, I think it’s cool that he lived overseas as a kid like Minato. It sure takes relatability up a notch there, and he’s mentioned that his own experience has helped in his portrayal of the character. As for Murakami and Toya, they’re both new in voice acting and this is their first role, if I’m not wrong. And that alone probably holds a special place in their heart already. It’s lovely to know that apart from the producers and the fans, the seiyuu treasure this piece of work known as Wind Boys! as well.

Regarding the story promotional video. Not gonna be dramatic but I shed a here LOL They got me at the tuning note right at the beginning... But like the MC and cast said, it gives a sense that it’s finally going to happen! The release! We’ve come so far! Although we haven’t even begun yet!

And those were my opinions on the notable things from my perspective. Thanks for the question! I probably did more than just answer it, but I hope you don’t mind - it’s given me an opportunity to recollect my thoughts. Totally had to watch the whole thing again on archive because a lot of stuff and emotions just flew over my head when I was translating live :’)

Oxventure Thoughts: Sect Appeal

Continue to be really happy with these livestreams!

First thing’s first, Corazon confirmed for canonically queer, and potentially Egbert too! I don’t imagine either player has particularly thought too in-depth about this, it seems like they both just were riffing on the trope of love triangles, irrespective of the relevant characters all being male, which was the aspect of it that I really liked!

Johnny has a story type that he really loves that I can’t quite think of a way to summarise, but basically this story’s element of the cult being reminiscent of the typical american movie frat house is definitely in the same ‘genre’ of Oxventure story as Quiet Riot definitely being inspired by neighbours who make noise complaints. It’s a really nice way of making NPCs memorable, even if the fray boys were just filler.

This episode’s boss fight is similar to what I said about the Oxventure’s pattern for boss fights in the last episode. I.E, I really can’t tell if Johnny doesn’t know how to calculate CR for boss fights to make them difficult or that he just likes to give them an avenue to be creative without the pressure of potential character death, if it’s the latter I’m more than fine with it because Dob’s limit break against the demon was awesome and the latest in a long line of Luke cheesing boss fights by being extremely creative in a ways that I couldn’t dream of.

In regular D&D lore, a lot of extraplanar creatures like devils, demons and certain abberations can’t be killed in the material plane, destroying their physical form just banishes them back to their home plane. Devils get demoted in the hierarchy of hell, but the Abyss has infinite layers so can just return as much as they want. I really hope if Johnny uses this lore that this comes back to bite specifically Corazon because that would be so funny.

So I feel like if this was a live show at a panel that a massive chunk of this episode would’ve been excised because after killing the demon there was still a ton of plot left to go and the reveals at the end would’ve been summarised really quickly. They still felt a tad rushed but having the freedom to extend the runtime allowed Johnny to actually resolve all the plot threads that he planned on.

I just realised this episode that Lilliana’s three bases of operations have all been underground, because she’s a Drow and has vastly reduced visibility in daylight. Touche Johnny.

Sorry I think I’m confused still. So Louis does not need a major label to put on the live stream. But a label, if he had one, would be responsible for promotion of it?

I’m going to try and summarise the big picture approach, before I answer, because I do think it all makes a lot more sense if you have a framework to understand it. Record labels purpose is to make money from recorded music. Their focus is making money from recorded music. They are involved in live performances where the purpose of those live performances is publicty for recorded music.

The starting point in a normal record deal is that record labels do not own, control, nor are they responsible for live performances whose goal is to make money. (Although there are lots of exceptions now).

I think it’s important to understand this model, even if everything is more complicated now, because that’s the model that the industry has been working on for decades - and so that distinction between live performances for promo and live performances to make money is important is pretty baked into the music industry.

To answer your question - of course Louis doesn’t need a major label to do a livestream. Lots of people do livestreams all the time without a label at all. Putting on a livestream with that high production values requires money, but 1D have options in terms of accessing money. In general, if an artist puts on a big charity event, then there’s no reason to expect that the label fronted the money that made it possible (unless their branding is all over it).

A label also wouldn’t be responsible for the promo of a charity event an artist was part of. Remember a record label’s purpose is to make money off recorded music - and a live performance at a charity event is neither of those things. However, a label might agree to publicise a charity event, as part of their wider publicty of the artist.

What I think happened (and it’s just a guess), is that Niall went to Capitol and said ‘hey I’m going to do this big livestream and I want to go out and talk about how crew needs support will you help organise publicity?

And even though in the short term, it doesn’t help them make money from recorded music, Capitol have signed Niall to a three album deal and he’s presumably thinking of releasing that third album next year. So they decided that it was in their long-term interests to dedicate some resources to making sure Niall and this gig got a lot of publicty. I think that the promo appearances Niall did were much more about selling him than selling tickets (watching a livestream is a very core fan experience - and going on TV shows doesn’t make a huge amount of difference to that audience who hear about it anyway). But again that’s just a guess.

In this case, (if I’m right), Niall’s label isn’t responsible for publicity, but they’ve agreed to undertake publicity for this event, because they think it’ll help next year when he releases an album.

I think Louis situation is quite straight forward and has been coverd in the press. He signed a one album deal with Syco. That took longer than expected, but was completed with the delivery with Walls. It was released by Arista in the US, but I don’t think there’s any evidence of an on-going committment. Syco was shutting-down around Louis as he released Walls. So now having deliverd on his original record contract and the label he was signed with shut down, he’s now a free agent.

He seems to be planning to tour before releasing an album, and he can afford to develop the early stages of LT2 himself; he doesn’t need a record label at the moment.

A Q&A with Oneshi Press, and others! Let’s talk Tracy Queen Vol. 2!

On March 18th I had the pleasure of talking to some talented creatives over at Oneshi Press, a small business that write, illustrate, and distribute small comics and graphic novels. Their work is full of sox positivity (censored for those nasty algorithms!) and feminist messages. It’s got all kinds of titles from Children of Gaia, to the more current being kickstarted Tracy Queen series under its belt. The independent press also promote a lot of smaller artists and writers, even work by myself! The co-founders Jayel Draco and Lynsey G are a dynamic duo of writing, illustrating and generally promoting strong ideals that really do promote all-round progressiveness. My work has been featured in Oneshi press’ releases multiple times, once in their Oneshi Press Quarterly Anthology #5 and for promotional material in articles and cover illustrations for a chapter in their new volume of Tracy Queen!

In a livestream with JayelDraco, LynseyLags and PeteTheHeat I was fortunate enough to ask some questions on their process, and their new up and coming comic which is a mashup of sexual empowerment, sci-fi and a talking racoon sidekick... And here is how it went! (All answers aren’t quotes! I took notes and summarised the answers for ease of reading)

Q:Do you think about the composition of the whole page when sketching the comic, or do you focus on each individual frame?

Jayel responded that his way of working tends to focus more on what frames need to be within the page and then negotiate how the images work within these frames.

Q: How much focus do you put on world building and setting, compared to the characters... or do you find them too integrated with one another to see them as separate aspects of Tracy Queen?

“It starts off with the little things.” He continues saying how it’ll be for example a fictional store in the background of one frame which goes on to be repeated through a series. his work in Mr. Guy and PACK also show many of the same small details between them. He says about how it’s these subtle things that build the world.

Q: How important is colour to your character designs and comics?

In Tracy queen he mentions how there are two distinct colour palettes of Tracy. One of which is softer purples and textures which is very much the protagonist in her own comfortable environment, which contrasts with the greens and yellows of her battle armour she uses to fight the forces of evil! As a consumer of Jayel’s work I have noticed this use of earth tones which really is unique, and makes his illustrations stand out. When asked about this he just replied with “I just test colours out, and then just make what feels right and intellectualise it afterward.” which is something I needed to hear. So often we are taught to overthink and overly intellectualise our visual choices.. but sometimes we need to just go for it!

Q: When Lynsey writes Tracy queen.. does she provide you with a script format or a book format?

Lynsey immediately replied with saying its done in a script format, but there’s “no set rules to it”, Pete as an author also gave some insight into this adding how its important to give the artist some bases to work off of. “Go into it as if you’re going to micro-manage the artist.. then take a step back. It’s important that you don’t over direct.” It’s clear that its a fine line working as an author alongside an illustrator in terms of allowing for room for creativity equally on both sides, this is something I feel Lynsey and Jayel have balanced perfectly. Both of their personal voices shine brightly through this new upcoming comic and I really can’t wait to see it get funded and put out into the world!

As conversation naturally flowed here are a few more things I picked up on! Jayel spoke about how Tracy is sexy, theres no doubt about it , but he’s proud of how he can show her being gross and slob like at times and not be afraid of it. It’s Tracy’s SELF-EMPOWERMENT and CONFIDENCE that makes her sexy. And I feel like this message of self empowerment is something I really hope to also take forward in my own work as an illustrator. This message of self-empowerment is something we NEED in this political climate in the western world right now, and we need to do this from the ground up starting with small aspects of visual culture eventually leading to it being promoted on a larger scale in pop-culture.

As whacky and weird as this sex positive sci-fi about a Love Warrior and a talking racoon sidekick is. It’s beautiful. If you get the chance PLEASE go check out their current kickstarter campaign and if you can’t do that then at least help them by spreading the word! Let’s get this comic funded, and let’s help promote these small indie creatives as much as we can.

My thoughts about the attacks on Friday

Firstly, it was terrorism. It was an act designed to scare and send a message - this is terrorism. Anyone or any media outlet who denies this is lying and is most likely racist/Islamophobic. Remember, terrorism has no colour and no religion.

Secondly, we need to stop spreading the shooter's "manifesto" and the video he livestreamed on Facebook. He wants fame, notoriety and to convert others to his way of thinking - white supremacy; hatred. This is not acceptable and must be discouraged.

Thirdly, we need to stop talking about the shooter and his name, just stop putting him at the forefront. I know this happens every time anything terrible ever happens but I'm still going to say it: remember the victims, not their murderer. Unfortunately, the media will insist on telling us his name because they always do but that's no reason for us to give him any more attention he wants.

Fourthly, this atrocity was not the result of mental health problems. There is a worrying trend in the media of almost excusing the behaviour of white terrorists/serial killers/school shooters as side affects of their mental health. This is wrong and insulting to all those who suffer with mental health problems because it further stigmatises them as dangerous and makes them even more vulnerable in ignorant society. It also reveals a double standard in the media: any kind of criminal who isn't white isn't given the same "mental health pass" which is just blatant racism.

There is more I could say about all of of this but, really, the absolute horror and wickedness of the act of terror that was committed on Friday 15th March 2019 in Christchurch, New Zealand can be adequately summarised by this:

The youngest victim was Mucad Ibrahim and he was only three years old.

As I mentioned in the beginning, to get to know this drone better, I have myself tested and understood it in the open field.

I took some pictures from it to test its camera which was also quite accurate. But the DJI has a little latency compared to the Mini 2, but its camera is good.

MARCH 2021.

I have way more Tumblrs than I need. Some are dead, some are now irrelevant. My tumblrs are like a trail of periods in my life.

So why this one? Because I’m on the biggest adventure yet. (Yes, all of them seemed big at the time, but this one’s way up there if it pans out.)

Network marketing, by someone who really would prefer not to talk too much to other people, much less sell them anything.

This, in essence, is a lesson in (over-)stretching myself using something that makes me not only uncomfortable, but downright scared. Worth doing? Yes. If not for the lessons, the promise of income in these awful times when decent-paying jobs are non-existent for people like me.

I jumped into it not really understanding any of it. Managed to score one large customer, which I now realise was really just the springboard for the next good thing. The commission paid for a NWM coaching course which introduced me to a new friend AND my next NWM company with a great support system more suited to me.

But I didn’t do shit. Full of self-doubt and self-loathing. My efforts were lacklustre and lacked conviction.

Then someone decided do to a 100-day livestream challenge on FB. I wanted to do it too. I needed something like this. I mulled over it for a whole month. What was I supposed to talk about? What time? How many days? Bla bla bla.

Then I decided to just go and do it. I pressed the button with NO PLAN. It’s all over now, so I can summarise the experience.

It was hard, at first. The fear of being judged, the fear of looking yuck on video, sounding stupid. Then it became easy. I started not caring how I looked or what topic I chose. I never had a plan more than a day in advance. I decided sometimes minutes before I went live. There were days I did NOT want to go live. But I forced myself and I didn’t care about the results. Some days I put in loads of effort, with not much response. Most importantly, however, there were always a few hardcore “fans” who were always there to support my effort. Most surprisingly, an aunt who watched EVERY SINGLE EPISODE and very often messaged me about the topic of the day. I didn’t really mind talking to the void (I get more candid when I feel I’m talking to the void) but I was really grateful there were people who cared what I was talking about.

So the lesson from my 100-day challenge is: No matter how hard, just do it. Some people who know what you’re doing, will support you 100%.

My job isn’t really hard. Because the product is so special, it’s actually really exciting to tell people about it. Practically no one has heard about redox signaling molecules and what it is. It was NOT possible to stabilise them outside the human body just 10 years ago. (Contrast that with my previous effort, which was like selling iPhones to a Nokia user. A saturated market and SO MANY cheap copycats.)

So my job isn’t hard. But there are days I still cry and do the self-loathing thing because I’m not earning even a fraction of a minimum wage. Even today. Even after the 100-day thing. Even though I started a 30-day blitz which isn’t much of a blitz because I can’t hit the numbers I need to.

I’m almost halfway through the 30-day blitz. It’s gonna turn into a 90-day blitz. I’m slow, I need a longer schedule. I know I’m lacking a lot of skills. And I’m horrible at following up because it starts feeling like hardsell at that point. And I hate that. But if I don’t follow up, will they even remember I sent them stuff to look at? Fat chance. So I need to get over this hang-up. It’s no different from the way Oxwhite sends me emails reminding me of them. (I like what I bought from them, I know the best brains behind marketing are behind this brand, and I actually want to see how they do their thing.)

I know my problem though, and it’s because I’m not setting up the next appointment. I’ve listened to the Eric Worre book - I know that’s what I should do; I don’t know why I’m not doing it. I’m just being stupid. The steps are there. Just fricking follow them, idiot.

So this is super long because I’ve been on this for months now. Months. And I have nothing to show for it. Well, besides the tears, fears, frustrations and self-loathing, that is. OK OK. A few customers too. (We have to celebrate the wins, no matter how small, come on.)

I used to be a teacher. I know about self-reflection and post-mortem-ing my work. I just need to tap back into that flow.

I’m not stupid, really. I just have these huge mental blocks that are stopping me from being the person I know I can be.
