open question: what are the remaining arguments for Scotland being in the Union? bc as I recall the main arguments used in 2014 were:
Access to UK funding for public services (after over a decade of Tory rule that's not looking so hot)
Keeping the pound (literally who cares)
Scottish pensions are safer in a UK wide system (glances over at the climbing age for eligibility to state pension)
we rely on trade with the rest of the UK. how could we leave that behind? (this would be a fair point if it wasn't entirely in the UK's power to continue that trade and open borders. I mean the UK government is composed entirely on spite and soft power so they might not but. Brexit didn't stop trade between Ireland and Northern Ireland did it hey?)
Scotland wouldn't want to have to reapply to join the EU, they can stay on Britain's membership! (lol)
Voting Yes would be "a leap into the dark" compared to the lovely stable leadership of the UK (stop stop my sides are splitting)
Like even in 2014 the Better Together campaign was pretty pathetic and the only thing it could think of to say was 'but we already HAVE a union it's going to be SO MUCH WORK to do things differently' and trying to cherry pick Things That Are Good To Have In The UK rather than, idk, Unique Benefits Of The UK That Are Impossible In Non UK Contexts.
but the thing is that in the last 8 years let's be real. the UK has fallen further and further behind and while in 2014 the Yes pitch was Let's Strike Out For A Brave If Uncertain Future now it's a lot more Water Is Pouring In Through Every Crack It's Time To Depart This Ship
the only good argument I can see for voting no in a second indyref is: if the SNP are gone who's going to be an opposition in Westminster? cause it sure as shit isn't Labour despite their responsibility to do so.
(my hope has always been that Scottish independence might over time rebalance the English political spectrum. like if the English centre-left lose the big anti-Tory strongholds in Scotland and lose the SNP in Westminster there'll be a gap to fill. not sure how much I believe that after the last decade though, tbh I think at this point it's more that either way England and Wales are fucked and public opinion means worse than nothing, so Scotland might as well bail out and try and do better solo.)
#red said#the main arguments would be#money especially with north sea oil dried up. but tbh the argument that an independent Scotland would thrive off oil#was always an argument against for me bc that's not a sustainable solution both environmentally and logistically#but there's some good movement in a sustainable energy industry up here imo#also let's be real. the UK's financial situation is Also Fucked#and soft power#which again for me as a leftist was always another crap argument#like 'why should we be in the UK?' 'WELL IF YOU LEAVE THE UK YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO DO AS MUCH COLONIALISM'#ohhhh my god looking back at the Better Together stuff they made a big thing about the British aid budget for some reason?#well. the thing is. since the fcdo merger British aid is almost entirely conditional#ie it's political leverage not support#and there is a huge political will in Scottish contexts to do Not That#so once again. shot yourself in the foot a bit there in terms of pro Union arguments#similarly i think all this stuff about the UK being one of the big players in global power is p reliant on you thinking that's a Good Thing#which. i mean. good for us maybe good morally? definitely not#also for the record Scotland's rocketing drug death rate is often raised as evidence that Scotland can't go it alone#uhhhh causes of addiction aside (poverty and disenfranchisement) there's a HUGE mainstream political interest in Scotland#for safe consumption and harm reduction initiatives#which provably improve drug death rates#but when can't be done under the devolution agreement bc drug policy is reserved to Westminster

What Future Holds For Green Energy
Over all these years, I have been giving priority to incorporating Green Energy practices with the work our organization does. Lately, I have been researching tremendously on the future of Green Energy because I believe this how a real growth looks like: Moving ahead with a sustainable world.
As the world walks on the path of growth and progress, and explores new avenues of Science and Technology, we as a collective society, are becoming increasingly aware of sustainability and the role that Green Energy plays in it. By 2024, 33% of the world's electricity is forecasted to be generated via Green Energy which is about 1200 GW!
The future sounds exciting.
Let's Dive Deeper Into Solar Energy!
Solar energy’s convenience in terms of its reliability is no surprise for anyone. Residential solar power is expected to grow from 58 GW to 142 GW by 2024. Moreover, once the solar panels are installed the operational costs are way less as compared to the other forms of generating energy. In the near future, solar facilities will continue reducing their variability rates by storing electricity during the day and running at night.
Here’s an Quick Insight of the Rise of Geothermal Capacity
Geothermal energy ensures a reliable and strategic way of integrating itself into all kinds of electrical power generation systems. To generate geothermal energy, water is drawn from the underground reservoirs under high pressure when the water reaches the surface, the pressure is dropped, which causes the water to turn into steam. The steam spins a turbine, which is connected to a generator that produces electricity. The awesome part about Geothermal Energy is that the steam in the process is cooled off and condensed into water again which is pumped back into the earth, ready for another reuse. Geothermal capacity is projected to grow by 28% reaching 18 GW by 2024 proving to be a promising way of energy production.
How Can We Leverage The Wind Energy For A Hopeful Future?
The wonderful part about Wind Energy is that not only wind is an inexhaustible source of energy, but it also provides electricity without burning any fuel or polluting the air. Hence leveraging Wind Energy and setting up the right infrastructure to do this is the need of the hour. Moreover, the onshore wind capacity is expected to expand by 57% to 850 GW by 2024.
Adding to this, extensive research is being carried out by scientists to create airborne wind turbines in which the components are either floated by a gas like helium or use their aerodynamics to stay high in the air, where the wind is stronger. These systems are being considered for offshore use, where it is expensive and difficult to install conventional wind turbines on tall towers.
All in all, with the variety of innovations and advancements in Wind Energy production, I think the future does look bright!
What Can We Do?
As consumers, we have several opportunities to make an impact by contributing to a sustainable future by adopting Green Energy Solutions. There are alternatives for a greener way of life like energy storage solutions with safe and environment-friendly battery solutions with a greater life span.

"A survey of more than a million social media posts suggests that people feel more positive about nature's ability to solve climate change than human technology, according to new research published in the journal Global Environmental Change.
Researchers analyzing 1.5 million posts on X (formerly Twitter) using the latest artificial intelligence-driven language models found expressions of "disgust" and "fear" related to the term "geoengineering," which is often associated with radical technology such as spraying aerosols into the atmosphere or solar space sails.
But posts about nature-based efforts to protect carbon-storing ecosystems like rainforests, kelp forests under the sea and peat bogs offered more positive expressions such as "joy," according to researchers from the University of Cambridge, the Mercator Research Institute, International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) and Boston University."
"Governments and global organizations need to consider how the voting public will engage with proposed solutions of climate action."

Breaking Barriers: The Challenge of Electrification in Remote Areas
Tumblr media
In today's rapidly evolving world, the importance of electrification cannot be overstated. Access to electricity is a cornerstone of modern living, enabling progress in education, healthcare, communication, and economic development. Over the past few decades, remarkable strides have been made in electrification efforts, but there remains a significant challenge in reaching the hardest-to-reach areas. This article explores the obstacles hindering impressive progress in electrification and sheds light on the efforts being made to overcome these challenges.
The Significance of Electrification
Electrification is a critical component of building sustainable and inclusive societies. It enhances the quality of life for people in both urban and rural areas, enabling them to access vital services and technologies. Electricity facilitates the functioning of schools, hospitals, industries, and communication networks, empowering communities to thrive and participate in the global economy. However, despite its transformative power, millions of people around the world still lack access to electricity.
The Impressive Progress
In recent years, electrification efforts have achieved remarkable progress. Governments, non-profit organizations, and private companies have collaborated to expand electricity access to remote and underserved regions. The adoption of renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, and hydro power, has played a significant role in bringing electricity to areas with limited infrastructure. Additionally, advancements in technology and innovative micro-grid systems have made it possible to overcome geographical barriers and provide energy solutions to previously inaccessible locations.
Challenges in Reaching the Hardest-to-Reach
While impressive progress has been made, electrification in remote areas faces formidable challenges. Some of the key obstacles include:
Geographical Barriers: Many remote regions are situated in rugged terrains, such as mountains, forests, or deserts. Building and maintaining traditional power infrastructure in these areas can be prohibitively expensive and logistically challenging.
Lack of Infrastructure: Remote regions often lack basic infrastructure like roads and transportation networks, making it difficult to transport materials and equipment needed for electrification projects.
Affordability: In impoverished regions, the cost of setting up and maintaining electricity infrastructure can be a burden for both the communities and the providers.
Political and Social Instability: In certain areas, political conflicts and social unrest can hinder progress in electrification efforts, discouraging potential investors and disrupt ongoing projects.
Environmental Concerns: Balancing the need for electrification with environmental conservation is crucial. Some remote areas are ecologically sensitive, and care must be taken to ensure sustainable and eco-friendly energy solutions.
Solutions and Initiatives
Despite the challenges, numerous initiatives are actively working to bring electricity to the hardest-to-reach regions. These efforts include:
Off-Grid and Micro-Grid Systems: Off-grid solar systems and micro-grids provide localized and decentralized energy solutions, bypassing the need for extensive infrastructure. They can be tailored to suit the specific energy demands of a community.
Mobile Technology: Mobile technology has become a powerful tool in facilitating electrification. Mobile payment platforms and smart grids help manage energy distribution efficiently.
Public-Private Partnerships: Collaborations between governments, non-governmental organizations, and private companies have proven effective in pooling resources and expertise to tackle electrification challenges.
Miniaturized Technologies: Technological advancements have led to the creation of compact and efficient energy solutions, such as portable solar panels and mini wind turbines, making them suitable for deployment in remote areas.
Community Engagement: Empowering local communities to take ownership of electrification projects fosters a sense of responsibility and sustainability.
Conclusion
Impressive progress in electrification has undoubtedly improved the lives of millions, but there is still much work to be done to reach those hardest-to-reach areas. The challenge of electrifying remote regions requires innovative solutions, collaborative efforts, and a commitment to sustainable development. As technology continues to advance and awareness grows, there is hope that the barriers hindering electrification will gradually crumble, lighting up the lives of those who have remained in the dark for far too long. It is essential for governments, organizations, and individuals to come together and invest in electrification as a means of driving positive change, fostering economic growth, and leaving no one behind in the pursuit of a brighter and sustainable future.

« To mention the global loss of biodiversity, that is to say, the disappearance of life on our planet, as one of our problems, along with air pollution or ocean acidification, is absurd—like a doctor listing the death of his patient as one symptom among others.
The ecological catastrophe cannot be reduced to the climate crisis. We must think about the disappearance of life in a global way. About two-thirds of insects, wild mammals and trees disappeared in a few years, a few decades and a few millennia, respectively. This mass extinction is not mainly caused by rising temperatures, but by the devastation of natural habitats.
Suppose we managed to invent clean and unlimited energy. This technological feat would be feted by the vast majority of scientists, synonymous in their eyes with a drastic reduction in CO2 emissions. In my opinion, it would lead to an even worse disaster. I am deeply convinced that, given the current state of our appetites and values, this energy would be used to intensify our gigantic project of systemic destruction of planetary life. Isn't that what we've set out to do—replace forests with supermarket parking lots, turn the planet into a landfill? What if, to cap it all, energy was free?
[...C]limate change has emerged as our most important ecological battle [...] because it is one that can perpetuate the delusional idea that we are faced with an engineering problem, in need of technological solutions. At the heart of current political and economic thought lies the idea that an ideal world would be a world in which we could continue to live in the same way, with fewer negative externalities. This is insane on several levels. Firstly because it is impossible. We can't have infinite growth in a finite world. We won't. But also, and more importantly, it is not desirable. Even if it were sustainable, the reality we construct is hell. [...]
It is often said that our Western world is desacralised. In reality, our civilisation treats the technosphere with almost devout reverence. And that's worse. We perceive the totality of reality through the prism of a hegemonic science, convinced that it “says” the only truth.
The problem is that technology is based on a very strange principle, so deeply ingrained in us that it remains unexpressed: no brakes are acceptable, what can be done must be done. We don't even bother to seriously and collectively debate the advisability of such "advances". We are under a spell. And we are avoiding the essential question: is this world in the making, standardised and computed, overbuilt and predictable, stripped of stars and birds, desirable?
To confine science to the search for "solutions" so we can continue down the same path is to lack both imagination and ambition. Because the “problem” we face doesn't seem to me, at this point, to be understood. No hope is possible if we don't start by questioning our assumptions, our values, our appetites, our symbols... [...] Let's stop pretending that the numerous and diverse human societies that have populated this planet did not exist. Certainly, some of them have taken the wrong route. But ours is the first to forge ahead towards guaranteed failure. »
— Aurélien Barrau, particle physicist and philosopher, in an interview in Télérama about his book L'Hypothèse K

How you know for a fact that alternative energy is a scam:
The U.S. is on track to export 11 trillion cubic feet of natural gas to an ungrateful Europe. Back in the winter of 2020/21, while Texas froze, the U.S. was exporting only 5 trillion cubic feet...though maybe we shouldn’t have been exporting any at all. Do the math! We more than doubled the amount of our natural gas going to Europe!
At the exact same time, New York and Boston are banning any new hookups to the natural gas grid, pretending that natural gas is just so gosh darn dirty. Hmm. How is it clean when it’s burned in Europe, but dirty when it’s burned in Boston?
Look. I’ll be blunt. If wind & solar are so great, let’s ship it off to Europe. Let’s solve all of Europe’s energy problems by selling them our wind & solar. Empty our warehouses, strip the solar panels from our roof tops, clear the wind turbines from our fields & ship it all to Europe.
We can even sell them our Teslas!
Then, once Europe is 100% Carbon Free, once they are economically THRIVING with all their “Alternative” energy, once they prove to the world how cheap and viable “Alternative” energy is we can do the same here.
...and because the freaks occasionally remember that global warming is supposed to be “Global,” by helping Europe with our refusal to sell them fossil fuels, but supplying them with all our wind & solar, we are helping the world!
Right?
It’s supposed to be “Global.” So even if our CO2 emissions rose it couldn’t matter, so long as the drop in Europe equalled or exceeded the rise here. And with Europe dropping to Zero Emissions...
And like I said; just as soon as Europe is on 100% “alternative” energy, and thriving, we will do the same here.
Hmm. While we’re on the topic:  Why is there no wind in north Korea? Why is there no sunshine? Because they are an economic basket case, their agricultural output at a 19th century level. They’ve suffered famines -- THOUSANDS IF NOT MILLIONS HAVE DIED IN FAMINE! -- because of their lack of fossil fuels. Their currency is worthless, it has zero value outside of north Korea itself, and nobody can sell on credit because they are deadbeats who effectively scammed sellers in the past, taking delivery but never paying. So they can’t buy fossil fuels. But if they had wind, and they had sunshine they could be an alternative energy utopia. And having all that clean, cheap, reliable alternative energy, they could be an economic powerhouse that dwarfs south Korea. Unless the alternative energy claims are all bullshit.
