#give my fav character the fame he deserves

Hello, just saw your Poirot art, and I love it. Thanks for sharing your beautiful arts....
Can I ask (if you don't mind), your top 3 fav Poirot books? And why you love them?
AHHHH THANK YOU SO MUCH 😭💖💖 this is so sweet, thank you for giving me an excuse to ramble about my little belgian man whom i love with all my heart
I’ve only finished 7 books so far (I’m almost done with Poirot Investigates and I’ve got the ABC Murders to read next), so my opinion may change. Also my taste is incredibly generic, but my top 3 as it currently stands-
3) Murder on the Orient Express
Deserves the amount of fame it gets. The characters are super compelling, as was trying to work out their motives and the identity of the killers. My hot take is that I actually like Kenneth Branagh’s version more than Suchet’s bc he has far more earnest whimsy
2) The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
Also extremely generic take but the TWIST in this version is so good there’s a reason it’s so popular. My favourite adaptation is actually the Japanese version (Kuroido Goroshi) for no reason other than Poirot grows vegetable marrows that look like THIS
Tumblr media
10/10. No notes. A+ characterisation
1) Death on the Nile
Definitely my favourite book because not only is the mystery compelling, the characters are all really interesting and Poirot’s relationship to the overarching theme of romantic love is super interesting to see. Suchet’s adaptation is my favourite! It’s such a shame there’s been no movie version made in recent years. There was no 2022 movie! None at all!!

hi betts! thx for writing free ride, its one of my fav. i sent this bcz of your a/n at the end of chap 2: "I don't know where communist frat boy Sejanus or lowkey yandere Lucy Gray came from but they are here and they aren't leaving." im always afraid of characters running on their own when i try to write a fic. im afraid they wont be in character anymore if i let them be. so i try to be careful and meticulous, but instead it stops me from writing. have u ever tried to stop charas when they run on their own because they end up not in character? how do you do characterisation when you write a fic?
whenever i get an ask about how to stay IC, in my heart i'm wiping a cartoonish drop of sweat from my brow and stepping in front of a mountain of comments accusing me of OOC.
it's interesting to me that anxiety about writing OOC comes from a proprietary feeling toward existing characters. both our own proprietary feeling which grants us the interest in writing fanfic about them, but also the reader's proprietary feelings which lead them to go "he wouldn't fucking say that."
there's a paradox there, though. many of us write fic to be self-indulgent. self-indulgence means prioritizing the ideal. the ideal sometimes means taking characters away from their canon selves in order to fit the story we're writing.
my whole motivation for Free Ride is wanting to see how coriolanus would be different growing up in contemporary american capitalism. canonically, he's a tyrant. but we have no idea why or how, in canon, north america became panem. panem is not a free market economy; there's not even evidence coriolanus knows what capitalism is. controlling commerce is one of his greatest anxieties. the idea that the capitol could be once again cut off from necessary imports is what leads him to make virtually every decision he makes in both tbosas and thg. so i think he would detest the idea of a free market, but he would never be a socialist.
which is all to say, a lot of the fic i've written these past few years have been kind of "what if" character studies in lieu of writing meta. with that being the goal, i'm less concerned about the characterization of anyone else. suzanne collins set me up well with developing characters who have a strong voice; ultimately, when people say "he wouldn't fucking say that" i think they mean "he wouldn't fucking say that in that way." in the case of tbosas, with the film and book being so different in terms of characterization, i feel there's a bit of leniency anyway. i'm writing book coriolanus with movie lucy gray and sejanus.
also, i think part of the fun of fanfic is selling your characterization. "yandere lucy gray" is a kind of thesis statement and the fic, i hope, backs up that interpretation. sans fearing for her life, i think lucy gray would be a bored twentysomething who feels like a big fish in a little pond and is eager to indulge in the kind of intensity she craves. canonically, i think you can argue they bring out the worst in each other. consciously, i'd gone into this fic eager to see how coriolanus would develop in this particular circumstance. unconsciously, lucy gray and sejanus's voices developed on their own around the premise.
there have been a few situations where i wrote characters in the entirely wrong direction before catching myself. i think i had about 40k of Digging for Orchids written when i realized i'd written xie lian wrong. i imparted on him my own interpretation of a happy ending. i can't really wrap my head around ambition or the drive for fame, so initially he came to accept his fall from grace and moved on from acting. but i remembered that canonically he's a god and his story is about ascension. in a modern au, household name fame is what would make him happiest. so i had to go back a ways and write in a different direction so i could give him the ending he deserved, even if it's not something i would ever choose for myself.
which is all to say, it's important to acknowledge that what you want for your story and what is "right" (in this case, IC) may sometimes be at odds with each other. sometimes what you want is more important, because that's why you're writing in the first place. but sometimes you can have what you want and also stay IC. in the case of Free Ride, i could write you a paper on the choices i made about coriolanus's characterization. i have dozens of annotations in my copy of tbosas interpreting his canon behavior in a modern context. but my only support for communist frat boy sejanus is that i think it's very funny and also the movie totally mangled his character so i feel slightly more justified in making him who i need him to be for the story.
write the story you want to read. once it's written, you can go back and figure out if some piece of characterization isn't sitting right with you. in writing, all things can be fixed. and if you don't feel like fixing them, you don't have to. it's your story.

Tumblr media
A list of all the films, series and web series that have been recommended as hidden must sees during isolation and beyond.
Note: I have divided them into films with happy endings or not, series that haven’t finished so the exact ending is unknown I have put an asterisk (*) next to
Note 2: the descriptions are a mixture of my own and of the reviews I was sent by anons
She gets the girl
A Date For Mad Mary, 2016 (needs a date for a wedding, more about her complicated reconnecting with friends after prison but romance is cute)
Almost Adults, 2016 (centers around the broader themes of growing up and friendship but one of them is a giant gay. There is a happy ending for both the gay one and the straight one, gotta give the straights some food because they so rarely get fed)
Anne+, 2018* (Dutch webseries with fresh and new vibes with a great mid-twenties actress about mid-twenties gay lives. Everyone in it is LGBTQ+ yet nothing about it is LGBTQ+, it’s all just treated as natural and normal)
Bound, 1996 (you can't beat the lesbian noir classic which should one day be inducted into the lesbian hall of fame)
But I’m A Cheerleader, 1999 (camp and a lot of fun despite the very serious themes, starring Natasha Lyonne- one of the gayest straights out there)
Carmilla, 2014-16 (webseries based on the groundbreaking 19th century book. Some great chemistry and a lot of breaking of the fourth wall)
Carol, 2015 (Cate Blanchett movie based on the book The Price of Salt which caused issue when it was realised in 1952 because it gave its lovers a open ended happy ending)
Couple-Ish, 2015-16 (cute Canadian web series, bit on the nose but important gay, bi and enby rep)
Desert Hearts, 1985 (the looks, the emotions, the gorgeousness of them both, the chemistry, oh god it was so good. Vivian Bell deserves all the orgasms)
Elisa Y Marcela, 2019 (A Spanish film based on the true story of two women who got married with one of them pretending to be a man in 1901. A tearjerker but ultimately their love is stronger than the adversaries they face)
Entre Nous, 1983 (a French 1983 film which has Jews & Nazi's but doesn't end in complete horror. There are straights who think it’s a friendship but we know better)
Fingersmith, 2005 (BBC drama based on a book by Sarah Waters)
Fried Green Tomatoes, 1991 (based on a more obvious book, they’re sold as best friends but if you know you know)
Fucking Åmål, 1998 (one of the first films aimed at teenagers about two girls falling in love and getting together.)
Getrieben, 2018 (they're ex's and share a dog and then maybe they're not so ex anymore)
I Can't Think Straight, 2008 (cute romantic comedy adapted from a novel about a London-based Jordanian of Palestinian descent preparing for a wedding before events take a gay turn)
If These Walls Could Talk 2, 2000 (some happy and some sad endings in this film which portrays three generations of lesbian storylines from the same house)
Imagine Me and You, 2004 (not my fav but a classic and has Queen Cersei playing a wlw)
Kyss Mig, 2011 (heart eyes, a lovely film, does have maybe a bit too much man in it but he's gone when we get to the nitty gritty)
Our Love Story, 2016 (Korean, subtle nuanced relationship story)
Rosebud, 1996 (a channel 4 short with Julie Graham and questionable fashion choices. Who needs words when you can have such tantalising and vivid visuals? Teeny bit of man but it's fitting in the particular setting and its very fleeting, although admittedly nude)
Saving Face, 2004 (romantic comedy which had less of an impact that Imagine Me and You due to lesser known actors and probably partly to do with race- the main characters are Chinese-American. But it's a gorgeous movie that has a lot more than just rom com elements. The Half Of It is by the same director.
Sjukt Oklar, 2018* (very Swedish, very lesbian, very very funny)
Supervoksen, 2006 (Danish teenage coming of age type thing)
The Carmilla Movie, 2017 (based on the webseries but still accessible to those that haven’t watched it. Quite sweet and the actresses seem very comfortable with each other. Plus there is a great sex scene in it where the muscles on one of the girl’s back are especially sexy)
The World Unseen, 2007 (period film during South Africa's apartheid era with great chemistry)
The Handmaiden, 2016 (extremely nsfw but its got some incredibly powerful meaning to it especially the final sex scene with the bells. It's also incredibly shot and the sex scenes were done very sensitively on set with only women around and the director even in another room.)
Thelma, 2017 (a supernatural thriller about a girl starting college who suddenly starts getting seizures but they don’t know why and she has a female love interest)
Tipping The Velvet, 2002 (BBC series, also has a Victorian era strap on in it and Keeley Hawes, what's not to love?)
When Night is Falling, 1995 (An uptight and conservative woman, working as a literacy professor, finds herself attracted to a free-spirited, liberal woman who works at a local carnival. It’s got quite a lot of a boyfriend in it so its not for everyone.)
Yes or No, 2010 (literally a ‘and they were roommates’ movie as well as an enemies to lovers plot)
Zwischen Sommer Und Herbst, 2018 (coming of age elements, does have a man involved especially at the beginning, who happened to be the brother of one of the girls, but overall it was okay, no lesbians die and it doesn't end in abject misery)
She doesn’t get the girl but neither does the trope
Aimée and Jaguar, 1999 (based on a true story. Beautiful but painful, it’s a Jew falling for a German housewife in Nazi Germany, hence its sad as hell ending)
Bloomington, 2010 (coming of age, teacher student thing which walks that line relatively well without being too icky)
Freeheld, 2015 (an extremely powerful and important story to tell)
Gia, 1998 (Angelina Jolie gets it on with Elizabeth Mitchell in a moving film about model and lesbian Gia Carangi)
Kontrola, 2019* (a masterpiece of a mini web series with a great soundtrack, aesthetic and storyline. Season 2 may present a better future for them)
Mädchen in Uniform, 1931 (German cult classic almost entirely produced by women. Sexual awakening/teenage coming out of her shell stuff, there is also a 1958 redo which is okay. She doesn’t get the girl but it’s still a positive portrayal of sexuality where the object of desire isn't disgusted or weirded out by it)
My Summer of Love, 2004 (At first glance a coming of age movie, but has a lot of phycological elements too. Emily Blunt with a girl, not happy but no lesbians die)
Portrait of a Lady on Fire, 2019 (spell-bounding french film with amazing rawness and visuals. One of my best cinematographic experiences ever)
Reaching for the Moon, 2017 (the love story of the poet Elizabeth Bishop and the architect Soares in the 60s)
Snapshots, 2018 (sad ending but great chemistry with no closed mouthed straight girl kisses)
Summertime, 2015 (French lesbian movie- dare I say more? Sad but no deaths)
The Hunger, 1983 (a gothic cult classic, vampires, its got David Bowie, Susan Sarandon and Catherine Deneuve in it)
The Miseducation of Cameron Post, 2018 (she doesn’t get the girl because there is no girl, but she does begin to find and accept herself. Based on a highly recommendable book by the same name)
Viola di Mare, 2009 (depressing as hell but beautiful to look and the couple have some good chemistry)

My MLP Gen 5 movie review and hope for the future.
SPOILER WARNING!!!! Lol...
If you haven't seen the MLP Gen 5 movie please do so, and not just because there are spoilers ahead.
First off I can't tell you how much I love this movie. It's well made and written, the music is catchy, and the story speaks to the viewers without being preachy. Each character is relatable and loveable.
The movie was adorable, well animated and the voice actors amazing. Above all the animation was so amazing it alone carried the story where it sometimes faltered. The story was a bit generic and the plot twists weren't exactly hard to see coming. Yet it was thoughtful and each expression of each pony was carefully thought out. From the main 5 characters each having their very own mannerisms to unforgettable facial expressions.
I think they successfully brought MLP back by not only adding a male character who isn't toxic, i.e. Hitch. But by adding a girl character that isn't super feminine but also doesn't shy away from cute stuff, i.e. Zipp. A character whose love for flying is so pure it shines as bright as a rainbow.
This brings me to the characters and what I hope to see happen to each of them. As well as what Element of harmony I think each represents.
Starting with my fav and now spirit animal, Zipp!
Anyone who knows me knows I adore Rarity. She was always my fav, but I really identify with Zipp. This is amazing because my preconceptions going into this movie were that Zipp was going to be a Rainbow Dash copy, and she isn't!
We were comparing her to Rainbow dash, not only the cool style she has and her love of flying but honestly. Between Rainbow and Zipp, I like Zipp better because she's not like Rainbow. My favorite moments with Rainbow in OG series were when she wasn't all about flying, but instead, the episodes about her love of a book series were my favorite things about her.
Sure Rainbow loved flying, obnoxiously so at times which was her character. A confidant sometimes snarky character, and we love her for it. But Zipp, Zipp didn't grow up flying. Her love for it is almost pure compared to Rainbow's love.
Zipp had to learn other ways to glide, or imitate flying. Zipps pure joy at suddenly being able to fly is adorable. However with her character. I could see her spending days never touching the ground just because she'd be afraid she'd never get up again.
Zipp has insecurities that Rainbow doesn't have, and it's mostly because of how she was raised in the castle. Hiding the fact that she can't fly that she had to use wire. Her mother loved her but Zipp always comes second best to her sister. Rainbow didn't have that Rainbow was raised flying and told how good she was, that helped make her the confidant person she was.
In fact Zipps mother showed her love to her sister more than for Zipp. Who honestly seems fine with that because her joy in life is flying. Though it be nice to see in the future a mother daughter bonding about how she wants to be treated a bit better by her mother. To be listened to and not shut down. Like she had been in the movie.
Zipp knows everything about flying as shown on her calk board in the movie. Rainbow never really had that spark of passion. Zipp is more insecure in herself, so basically Zipp isn't Rainbow and I love her.
Now as for where her story may lead. The Wonderbolts! We know them we love them and Rainbow was one of them.
Zipp only knows about Wonderbolts from a photo and probably some of the history she's been told. In fact, I could see her wanting to be one just not in the same way Rainbow did. Rainbow wanted to be one to prove she was the best. Zipp doesn't have that kind of view.
Mostly because they don't exist anymore. They more than likely were disbanded or rebranded when no one could fly. I could see Zipp having a mission to start the team up herself, not because of the status or the idea that Wonderbolts are the best of the best. She'd more than likely start it make friends all in an effort to share the love of flying with everyone. I doubt all ponies who can fly will try to fly. Whether out of fear or lack of confidence in themselves. I can see Zipp using the Wonderbolts as a jumping-off point to help show what wonders the sky holds for ponies. To share her spark with them.
I hope they don't shoehorn her into just a pony that is a girl but doesn't like frills. I feel like Zipp isn't the holder of the element of Loyalty like Rainbow, but instead, she's honesty. She hated lying to people sure she'd never abandoned her new friends but she knows the value of honesty and the distrust lying can bring to a kingdom when the truth is revealed.
***
Now for our second Pony, we have the pony I think could be any of the elements of harmony but more than likely is the element of Loyalty. The ever-adorable Izzy who at first we thought would just be a mash of Rarity meets Pinky, to make up for the fact that there are only 5 mane characters. Her cutie mark being something crafty and her personality being very bubbly.
Honestly, she is adorable and you can't help but love her. If Zipp wasn't so amazing Izzy would be my fav. Although Izzy may have looked like she was going to be a fashionista or party pony. She was far from what we expected and we love her for being her own pony.
Her recycling is an amazing idea, being a crafty pony and making fun things. Is such a great idea and sets her far apart from the fashion ponies and party ponies. She is a loveable goof who is helpful without being pushy. Her pure joy in making things for friends is what we love about her.
In comparison, Rarity loved the praise her fashions got, a perfect dress for every pony, and to make them all shine was her goal. Pinky wanted to put smiles on people's faces with parties and jokes, she wanted to bring joy to every pony.
Izzy just wants to make friends and share her stuff with said friends. I could see her setting up a shop, she could sell her friendship stuff like the bracelets. But I think her joy in life will come more from sharing special moments with a small group that with love her for her. In all her shiny sparkle ways. I see her more like a pony who will start a business that will allow ponies to make their own memories rather than sell pieces already made.
Izzy is a ball of sparkles that I hope doesn't become a character that's just there for the giggles. I can see her being the element of Loyalty because once you're her friend you'll mean more to her than anything in the world.
***
Now we all love a good strong non-toxic character, big mac is a good example of this. Hitch is another. He's strong confident and yet kind in his own way. He is the ideal male character. Someone who will be the voice of reason without making others feel bad. He is compared to Fluttershy in most ways because of the animals and I do agree that he more than likely will be the holder of the element of kindness. Yet he isn't Fluttershy.
I think the fact that he loves every living thing and wants them to live happily and as equals, why he'll be the elements holder.
Hitch unlike Fluttershy isn't an animal caretaker, but a protector. He has a stronger voice than Fluttershy, he won't back down from a challenge if it means protecting anyone or any creature that is under his care. He is a welcome addition to the pony cast. Giving the little boys who love ponies a pony that isn't a girl, but also isn't just a background character.
Sure the stereotype of the Sherriff being a male pony is a little, overdone. Yet Hitch is a kind person who only wants to help and protect and he does things even if he knows may not look cool because it make a friend happy. Like the scene where he does the secret hand shake with Sunny. You just can't help but love Hitch and hope he isn't to be the only male in this group for the entire show. Perhaps getting a male friend probably a unicorn or another creature like a dragon to balance the main cast.
I hope in the future we get to see just how he protects not just his friends but every pony without being aggressive but by being kind. Showing people like Sprout that there is away to help without overdoing it or forcing it.
***
Then there is Princess Pipp who I think is the holder to element of generosity. She is a girly girl but also speaks to the Gen that she is aimed for. Always on social media and on her phone. She's a soft jab at how the real world is in a way. Sure she could be compared to Rarity, but her love for music and phone sets her apart. I can see her story being about who to make the world better. Showing how the effect of love and humor can altered those around her.
We know Zipp is next in line for the throne, so what does the future hold for Pipp. Perhaps a career in music or something about how no matter how famous and rich she becomes it doesn't help with her sense of completion. How her close friends are where she'll find true happiness while helping others find that same sense of belonging. Will she help those around her by giving them what they not just want but what they need. Weather they know what that was or not. That's what I hope to see in her story.
The good and the bad, the outcome of just handing people something like fame or a big break. Learning the lesson that you can fail at what you don't want and might as well take a chance at what you love. I can't wait to see what they do for our new princess.
***
Sunny...what to say about Sunny? First she's not Twilight, in any way shape of form. Sure she got an alicorn body at the end of the movie, but that doesn't make her a princess. She is a good example of the fact that this isn't gen 4.
On the subject of her new horn and wings. I doubt she'll keep that form. I wouldn't mind if she did because it's cute but it also doesn't seem fully deserved. Sure she brought magic back, but she played no more a bigger part than Izzy. If anything Izzy played a bigger part. Izzy ventured out while Sunny only took the time to change her corner of the world. Sure I love Sunny her story is amazing but I feel like she needs more fleshing out. Like the world she leaves us with so many unanswered questions.
Sure I love that she was an activist and protester, she went about trying to spread love without really being pushy. Which is nice she was amazing and you can't help but love her. Yet she seems too naïve, her gaining the abilities of someone equal to Twilight seems a bit much. In fact the only element of harmony I wouldn't give Sunny is, magic.
She's funny but the element of Laughter isn't her goal. She wants everyone to be happy but laughter isn't what she's after...lol...She's kind but Hitch is more suited for that element, just like Loyalty is Izzy.
Sure Sunny would never leave a friend behind, and Loyalty is rather close to being the element for her but she also understands after years of bullying that not everyone is her friend.
As for generosity, she isn't exactly someone to just hand things to people without thinking. She'd happily give someone a cupcake but I doubt no matter what would happen she'd never hand over her note book or father necklace to just anyone because it make them happy. As for honesty she lied to Hitch her friend without remorse, enough said about that.
Now that leaves only magic, sure her pure hope for friendship and to find a place among her kind is likely to be equal to magic. I don't think the element suits her. I think if anything Sunny is the seventh element the lost element of harmony.
The element of Acceptance.
(Also seen in MLP Equestira girls being Sunset shimmer.)
I think in the future I want to see Sunny spend her time uniting the world, making friends and helping everyone learn the new world that she has set in motion. How she will show the world that their is a value in friendship. I also hope she seeks out the truth about the past and answer the many questions movie gave us.
(Sorry for the long pose... But why don't you tell me what you think in the comments. What would you like to see in the upcoming show and what element you think each character might be.)

literati endgame
My obvious bias aside, I really feel like literati endgame could be in the cards as long as big follow-up themes for a second season go. And here I'll tell you why!
1. The parallels
The show is not about the mother-daughter duo sharing the same name and story, we all know that. However, it's impossible not to parallel their relationships, specially when after the revival, the cycle seems to be opened again. So, Logan is Rory's Chris. Rich, pretty and bad at really being there enough. I feel like it's almost a concensus on the fandom that Logan is the biological father, and the fact Rory consults her own dad about how he felt about Lorelai raising her alone confirms this parallel. She has no intention to break his engagement to Odette, intending to raise her kid by herself just like her mother did. Jess would be Luke, for obvious reasons. Not only do they share blood, but they are also a constant support system for the Gilmore Girls. Altough Jess is kind of ausent, he offered Rory finantial help just like Luke used to do, and helped Rory find herself multiple times: going back to Yale, making peace with her mother, writing a book...
2. The fanservice
After divided opinions from the audience on the revival, I feel like the writers would've learned a lesson or two for a second season. Jess if by far the fan favorite, proof being the result of the pools recently shared on the official twitter and instagram profiles. It would certainly be giving the people what they want. Jess stans would have their fav back, and Logan stans would have, as the consolation prize, him as the father. Dean stans are not being taken into consideration because honestly who cares about them? Dean is happily married and doesn't deserve to be ruined again.
3. Milo. Ventimiglia
I feel like I don't even have to ellaborate on this one. But I will, because I love to talk about it. The Palladinos are really close to Milo. They wrote the Jess part specially for him and were responsible for his big break. They attented Milo's ceremony after recieving his star on the hall of fame, and, after the end of This is Us, included him on the cast for the fourth season of their famous show Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. And Milo obviously likes the role of Jess, as he always speaks fondly of the character whenever asked.
4. The original storyline ??
To be honest, the OG show went really downhill when the Palladinos left after S6. I feel like they had some clear goals and preferences. For instance, they never really took Jess out of the picture. We can never really forget him, because there he is suddently back at Stars Hollow for his mother's wedding, or throwing pebbles at Rory's window, or publishing a book. They liked the character enough to give him an entire spin off that was only cancelled because of the costs of production of shooting in California. However, at the end of S6 Logan was sent to London. This was easily solved by the next season's new writers, but I always wondered about what were the Palladinos plans for Logan's and Rory's relationship. Maybe the long distance wouldn't have worked and maybe Jess could be in the picture again.
5. The cliffhanger
Not the cliffhanger, AKA the famous last four words, but MY cliffhanger, AKA the long stare Jess gave Rory on their final scene. He just said he was long over, but I can't really buy it when a minute later he procedes to give her heart eyes on what was a very unnecessarily intense scene.
6. Everybody moved on, I stayed there
This lyric might apply to me and the fact I'm still obsessed about gilmore girls, but the Palladinos made an effort to really make it apply to Jess as well. Everybody moved on: Paris has her kids, Dean is married and with kids, Logan is engaged. But when it comes to Jess, we know so little about him that he could be the president. Successful writer? Likely, but the only canon info we’ve got is that the press tour is going well. Dating? Probably not, as the only information we get is his vague response when he and Rory first meet on the Revival. It's really unfair, because Jess is a very complex character that had a major evolution throughout the series, even if his glow up happened off-screen. He deserves to be happy, not pining over his ex from 17 years ago. If the Palladinos didn't consider pairing him with Rory, I feel like their care for the character would be enough to at least make him have settled down and move on.
7. They're still in contact... right?
Right??? I don't know if I've read and written too many headcanons at this point, but as he was the one to pitch the idea to her, I really feel like Jess is the editor of Rory's novel. At the very least, someone with experience in the field who can help her through the writing/publishing process. It only makes sense that they stay in touch, right???

My Top 10 K-Dramas of 2017 - What’s Yours?
Tumblr media
2017 is ending soon and K-Dramaland has once again brought us so many goodies this year. As per our blog’s tradition [For 2016 faves click here] , below are my Top 10 favs of the year (my faves in alphabetical order so it might not be yours so please don’t judge)
My only specific criteria this year is that the show must have had started in 2017 to be considered a 2017 series (Hence, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bookjoo and Goblin were in last year’s list)
Chicago Typewriter (tvN)
Tumblr media
Ever thought of a haunted typewriter that will slowly help you recover stories of your past life? Maybe not but this innovative drama does just that. Featuring talented movie focused actors Yoo Ah In and Im Soojung (HER FIRST DRAMA IN 13 YEARS SINCE THE LEGENDARY “I’m Sorry, I Love You”) as lovers separated from the past life but current bickering duo and rising talent Go Kyung-Po of Reply 1988 fame as their half puppy-half manipulative ghost friend from the past, the drama is one rollercoaster of emotions jumping between two equally interesting timelines of modern South Korea and Japanese occupied South Korea. I really enjoy the combination of working out the characters’ mysterious past life and also the commentary on the modern literary world. If you want an intriguing and fun story-line with revolutionary history shenanigans and early 20th century speakeasies, Chicago Typewriter is the drama to watch!
Duel (OCN)
Tumblr media
Finally, CLONES ARE PART OF K-DRAMALAND. After many dramas on multiple personality disorder and twins switched at birth etc., we see the concept of genetic copies and the ethics of such science finally pursued in this well-written and exciting thriller. Yang Sejong plays the clones in question and as a newcomer who only debuted in 2016, he is one to watch out. He expertly played the two dramatically different clones and honestly got me super freaked out watching the show. OCN continues their amazing run with thrillers and I cannot wait for more new content from them.
Fight My Way (KBS2)
Tumblr media
Every year there is one bomb slice of life drama and this year it’s “Fight My Way”! Inspired by the real-life romance of mixed martial artist Choo Sunghoon and his wife Shiho Yano, this rom-com about a UFC fighter and his childhood love is sweet, funny, and poignant, touching on realistic experiences of everyday couples. Park Seojoon excels as the fighter Ko Dongman and I think he honestly does the best when acting in these common man roles like in “She Was Pretty” and “Witch’s Romance” versus the over the top hero ones like in “Hwarang.” Kim Jiwon proves she is no one-hit wonder and here to stay after her “Descendants of the Sun” fame in this relatable role of a girl who has to abandon her dreams due to practicalities of the real world and Ahn Jaehong continues to be a pure delight after “Reply 1988”.
Hwayugi (tvN)
Tumblr media
Only 2 episodes in, the Hong Sisters already prove that once again they are the producing queens of K-Dramaland and Hwayugi is going to be scoring home runs like their earlier supernatural dramas “My Girlfriend Is a Nine-Tailed Fox” and “Master’s Sun”, whilst riding the wave of another widely popular mythical tvN drama “Goblin.” Reinterpreting the Chinese fantasy story “Journey to the West”, this drama plays with characters already well-known in Asian folklore and throws in interesting ghost/demon/monster fighting side stories along the way. Having worked with the Hong Sisters many times, Lee Seung Gi shines in his first role back from the military, playing the mischevious Monkey King Son Oh Gong. The other castings are also great - with Cha Seungwon fittingly being the eccentric and mercurial Bull Demon King, FT Island’s Hongki as the super flirt Zhu Bajie, and Oh Yeon Seo as the pure but strong-willed reincarnation of Xuanzang. If you need a fix after “Goblin”, just watch this already.
My Secret Romance (OCN)
Tumblr media
OCN’s first ever rom-com is a fan favorite locally and internationally and for good reason. It is one of those expected rom-com plots with chaebol male lead, awkward grassroots female lead, BFF with a crush on her, etc. but just done very well. It does do something innovative - going around all the awkward will they kiss or not KDrama stuff to a male and female lead who meet three years later after an awkward one-night stand. Additionally, the chemistry between Sung Hoon and Secret’s main vocalist Jieun is great and made the drama all the more fun, cute and entertaining. Also, THE OSTs ARE AMAZING BECAUSE BOTH LEADS ARE GOOD SINGERS.
Ruler: Master of the Mask (MBC)
Tumblr media
One of the K-Dramas I looked forward to the most this year was “Ruler: Master of the Mask” because of the amazing cast of Yoo Seungho, INFINITE’s L, Kim Sohyun, and Yoon Sohee and boy I was not disappointed. Going with a Prince and the Pauper-esque plot in Joseon Korea, Yoo Seungho and L did a great job in the delivering the two roles respectively. While some people complained the show was kind of slow, I rather the PDs slowly build up the story than rush a lot in the first few episodes then drag on forever at the end.
Strong Woman Do Bong-soon (jTBC)
Tumblr media
Following the popularity of another tough female lead drama “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo”, “Strong Woman Do Bong-soon” also made a strong impression on viewers. The story surrounding a cute and petite girl with supernatural human strength, played by popular actress Park Boyoung, made for a lot of laughs and also led to some fun romantic moments with male leads ZE:A’s Hyungsik and Ji Soo. The pairing of Park Boyoung as Hyungsik’s bodyguard was a well-done flip of normal K-Drama gender roles and I am excited about more female empowerment in K-Dramaland!
Tunnel (OCN)
Tumblr media
After tvN’s “Signal”, I was not sure if I can find another amazing time-travelling thriller of that quality to watch. But OMG OCN is back at it again with their thriller generating machine and they delivered me with “Tunnel.” The male lead, played by the honestly still underrated talent Choi Jinhyuk, is a detective from 1986 who finds himself in 2016 after traveling through a tunnel. Discovering the case he was working on is still unsolved, he joins forces with a modern police officer played by Yoon Hyunmin and a criminal psychologist played by Lee Yooyoung. This show inspired by the Hwaseong serial murders is very good and deserved to be the major hit it was in South Korea, being the most viewed OCN drama of all time.
While You Were Sleeping (SBS)
Tumblr media
Suzy and Lee Jong Suk is one drama already sounds like aesthetic goals but this drama also had good writing and plot to carry itself well. With Suzy playing a journalist who can dream of future deaths and Lee Jong Suk being a prosecutor who acquires her ability after moving into her neighborhood, the two form a likable team and really took us on a roller-coaster ride of emotions. While I am not the biggest fan of Suzy’s acting in the past, she has definitely improved a lot and I think people who are avoiding the drama just because of her should really give it a try.
Whisper (SBS)
Tumblr media
Legal dramas with strong female leads are always fun to watch, be it tvN’s “Good Wife” or SBS’s “Punch.” Another such drama is “Whisper”, which is supposedly set in the same universe as “Punch” according to some eagle-eyed fans, and it follows the alliance between Lee Bo-young’s charismatic but debt-ridden female section chief police officer and Lee Sang-yoon’s virtuous elite judge in their journey to uncover defense industry corruption at Taebaek, the nation's biggest law firm. These two top actors of course delivered great performances and Kwon Yul continues to rise on my list of second male leads to watch out for.
Honorable Mentions:
Tumblr media
Circle (tvN): An ambitious exploration of dystopian futures by tvN featuring a talented cast including Yeo Jingoo, Kim Kangwoo, Gong Seungyeon and HIGHLIGHT’s Kikwang.
I’m Not a Robot (MBC): Yoo Seungho aka #BAE? Count me in and ready to watch all the episodes. Also, the robot thing is a newer drama trope that has lots of potential.
Tumblr media
The Liar and His Lover (tvN): While the storyline is the expected K-Drama rom-com fare, this was a solid debut performance from Red Velvet’s Joy and damn the OSTs were great. Crude Play needs to debut as a real band real quick.
Tumblr media
Mad Dog (KBS2): Another amazing action-packed K-Drama thriller starring the amazing actor Yoo Jitae of legendary movie “Oldboy” fame. Also, K-Drama fans need to watch out for Woo Dohwan as this young actor is very talented and has huge potential.
Tumblr media
Suspicious Partner (SBS): The final drama of Ji Chang Wook before his enlistment, this is a feel-good rom-com with a great cast of Nam Jihyun, Choi Taejoon, and Nara.

BEST OF 2016- ARTIST LISTS #3- WOOZLES
Connecticut's  Conor Ryan under the avatar of Woozles delivered a banger of a breakup LP earlier this year. Here are his fav. tunes of the years and a few words on how he chose ‘em!
Although this year was awful in the broad scope of things, there was some amazing music. There are a ton of musicians I wish I had room to put on this list (especially from bigger acts) like Chance the Rapper, Rihanna, Beyonce, Porches., Frank Ocean, Frankie Cosmos, Solange, Mitski, and so many others. Instead, I focused on amazing songs that I thought slipped through the cracks this year that deserve to be highlighted.
01. Raspberry by Moving In
Jordan managed to make one of the most beautiful lil’ EPs of the year. It’s heartbreaking, beautiful, and heartbreakingly beautiful. This song in particular takes me to a completely different place when I hear it. I’m left with a lingering taste of raspberries on my lips when it’s over. Sweet and slightly bitter, but sparkling in the sun.
02. Soften by Flossy Clouds
I’ve been friends with Will for four years now. He’s a beautiful human being and an incredible musician. He released one of my favorite EPs of the year, Moon Lighting, and this song is good on too many levels to count. The production is outstanding, it’s groovy as hell, the chorus is unfairly catchy, and the lyrics give me so much nostalgia. Having gone to school with him, I have memories of driving by that same Big Y at night, staring up at the moon, and thinking of someone special (who may or may not have thought I’m special back). Also, you should all get ready for their newest album because mark my words it’s going to be the next big thing.
03. Doboom Soom by Slumbers
Slumbers! Holy shit! They are incredible. This whole EP is so intimate. The lyrics capture feelings of anxiety, depression, awkwardness, and joy in a super relatable and impactful way. The songs instantly make you want to sing along and it’s easy to float away with them. Doboom Soom in particular is so good because the lyrics are extremely specific and are able to capture a very particular and powerful set of feelings regarding depression and anxiety. Listen to this as you’re drifting off into purple dreams.
04. Dog by Camp Howard
I’m pissed that Camp Howard didn’t blow up with the release of this album. I had trouble picking this song because every single song off of their debut album they released this year is absolutely incredible. All of them could be radio singles. They’re ridiculously well structured songs with amazing production on top. Dog grabs you by the throat from the first few seconds and keeps its hold until the end. If you’re a fan of psych-rock or music in general, please do yourself a favor and go listen to this whole album right now.
05. Oh Fairy Please by Eddie Golden III
Let’s get weird! Eddie is Connecticut’s resident musical wacky scientist in the best way. In the past few years he’s released eleven albums through various bands, as well as his solo material. One of my favorite parts about his music is that he’s able to talk about super strange topics like hot air balloons, elevators, and fairies all while keeping the music itself super catchy and interesting. The video for this one isn’t to be missed either if you’re someone who likes to have fun or feel joy.
06. Fondly by Depressica
I don’t know what to say about this album besides it’s absolutely beautiful. It’s an album about transitions that’s drenched in all the bittersweetness that comes with such events in life. Fondly, in particular, focuses on a relationship coming to an end. The first part of the song is a lovely fingerpicked electric guitar with her voice soaring above. The clincher comes in the last 30 seconds when the distortion kicks in and the melancholy built up throughout the song turns into cathartic noise.
07. American Spirit by YURT
Travel back to the 80’s and put this song on as you’re cruising down a highway in Montana at night with your prom date riding shotgun. The lyrics here are some of the most clever and well written that I’ve heard all year. Everything about this song is just so goddamn good. It’s something special that’s hard to explain, so just go out and listen!
08. Hype by Sad13
Sadie of Speedy Ortiz fame released an album this year that perfectly blends pop and grunge sensibilities. Although it’s gotten a good amount of attention, I feel like overall it’s been criminally slept on. She talks about a ton of extremely important topics throughout the album like consent, abuse, and platonic love all while getting you to shout along. Hype is a critique of the music industry and the way it categorizes women in bands into neat little stereotypes that are convenient and completely bullshit. It’s a call for women in the music industry to band together to help each other break down the misogyny that’s terribly still extremely prevalent. On top of all that, the chorus is pretty much unforgettable.
09. Dana Katherine Scully by Tacocat
I can’t say enough about how much I love Tacocat. They’re everything I want in a band. If I could choose a band to magically be in, it would probably be Tacocat. I love the fact that they consciously make an effort to write about topics that aren’t usually talked about in songs and then make them incredibly engaging (like plan b, horse girls, and media addiction). What song to put on here was a tough choice, but I had to go with this one because I’ve watched a truly unhealthy amount of x-files in the past few months and Dana Scully is one of the most badass characters to ever exist.
10. There’s No Way by Family Ghosts
Matt’s vocal delivery here is conversational, deep, and emotional. As someone who’s heard things like “you’re not actually singing” just because I sung a song in baritone range, I appreciate the way Matt confidently uses his voice as a tool to propel this song. The track is heavily inspired by new-wave bands, but the raw production and intimate lyrics truly make it something special. Plus, it’s catchy as hell.
11. Reservoir by Warehouse
Warehouse has one of the most unique sounds in a band I’ve heard in a long time, mostly due to Elaine’s amazing vocals. Yet another song on this list about love and love falling apart, but it’s too goddamn good to not be ridiculously popular. The chorus in this song is insanely catchy. Every time I hear this song I end up singing the hook for days. The whole album itself, super low, should not be missed, but this song in particular shines.
12. Pink Spit by Peaer
I like any song that starts off with a line like, “Been hocking pink spit, been popping big zits, so fucking out of it.” I hate this song because when it gets into my head it refuses to leave. The production is so goddamn good. The riffs are meaty. The vocal delivery is on point. I’m happy to share the lovely state of CT with them!

Well, I Should be doing this Piece like I did with 2015 and It's Movies & Cartoons, But I started this a few Days ago and Now I am able to Upload it now. So here is my Review/Experience with these Animation-related Programs. Zootopia - It looked like a Cute film to watch, and it had some Good Voice Cast I know like Ms. Jenny Slate(Tammy, Princess Pony Head) & Mr. J.K. Simmons(Tenzin, Stanford Pines). And I figured it will beat out the *Cough* OVERRATED *Cough* Disney Frozen feature in my Book. It was the First Film of the Year to watch it in the Cinemas alone, back then I was Upset with my Parents over something, I can't remember. But I enjoyed the Film, the Characters look Likable, there was a Great Mystery Story like any other Detective Films, and the Song 'Try Anything' by Shakira, I first heard that song while Working in Foodtown, and Now I'm hearing that Most of the times there. The Loud House - Well, I first Heard about this Program coming soon back in 2014, and I thought I wouldn't be interested, But as time went by, the Character Lucy seemed to be a Cute Interest and Possibly one of the Reasons I will be Watching this Program, and then I would read who will be Voicing in this Program, and there were a load of Surprises. So I watched It's Previews and their Premieres so far and I'm Kinda finding the Show very Interesting, and My Favorite Characters of the show so Far are Lincoln, Lucy, Lynn, Leni, Lily Loud, Ronnie-Anne Santiago, & Clyde McBride. I even Started a Top 5 Favorite Episodes of this Program Possibly a Month after this Program premiered, and maybe I will do a Top 10 in the Future someday. The Angry Birds Movie - I like playing the 'Angry Birds' game, and I figured this Movie will be interesting because I know One actor playing in the Movie, and that Is Mr. Bill Hader, and that was Before I knew who the other Actors in the Feature are like Mr. Keegan Michael Key & Josh Gad. And I really enjoyed the Film Much, it had a Great Soundtrack, There was a Good Reference to Daft Punk (and that was a Good Thing because I discovered it after I Horribly Discovered that the Not-Very-Bright reboot of the Powerpuff Girls made a Reference to Daft Punk which led me to Tears, but then I saw the DP Ref on TABM, and I was Like "YES, I have No Regrets after Purchasing one of their Great songs 'One More Time' on I-Tunes!"), and there was a Hilarious Moment where the Mighty Eagle *URINATED* on his Lake, after Bomb & Chuck took a Dip in it, "Horrible Turn of Events, Horrible", and everyone in the Auditorium Laughed alot during the Whole Sequence, and I was Glad that everyone had a Good Time Watching it, and the Climax where the Birds invaded Pig City while Using the Big Slingshot and using their Powers plays just like the Games we Played Yesterday & Today. Steven Universe: Bismuth - I think I heard about a New Gem that everyone was Excited about, and I thought I would watched this New SU special, and I enjoyed it, the Character Bismuth was the Next Character Fav in my Book, and the Special had those Cute littl' Bumpers that could style Classic Anime, and that's what I would like about Steven Universe when it first premiered, I heard in one review that it looked like it had a Style combination between SchoolHouse Rock & some 1970's Obscure Anime, and I like that, Unlike the Few Episodes that were written & Boarded by Raven & Paul. The Secret Life of Pets - I find this Movie very Interesting, because it also had some very Good Voice Cast I know like Jenny Slate, Albert Brooks, & Bobby Moynihan, and I was Discovering who Kevin Hart was after seeing those Comedy Central Promos featuring the Gentleman. And I really liked the Film, and the Characters are really lovable, Mostly Snowball the Bunny, who is my Next Favorite 'Villains with Heart' characters, He was abandoned by his magician owner, turned bitter, ands leads the Flushed Pets planning to take retribution on humankind, Until in the End when the Flushed Pets come up with a new plan to annihilate all humans, Snowball is suddenly adopted by a little girl named Molly, At first, Snowball resists, but gives in to her sweetness and lets himself become a domesticated pet, and That was a Cute scene to me as Saying that Snowball deserves to be Raised Much better than his Previous Owner did to him. Noodle & Jaguar Racing - What can I say, I enjoy Gorillaz and their Music, my First Music Video to see from them was of course 'Clint Eastwood', and then I purchased their First Album, and repeatedly Listen to that Music all over again & Again. Until them, I finally rediscovered more about the Gang's History back in 2010 when their Third album 'Plastic Beach' came out. And Noodle is by Far one of my Most Favorite Animated/Cartoon Female Characters, she has the Most beautiful Designs during Phase 3 & 4, and the Her becoming Ambassador of Jaguar Racing with that Gorgeous Outfit/Fashion Design of hers REALLY packs a Punch. And I'm Beginning to Really have Fun Drawing her Jaguar Designs most of the Times, even with some of Our Original Characters, along with Official Characters from other Media. And I'm not sure if that's Ms. Haruka Kuroda reprising her Role, or what, But her Voicing is still Fabulous to Me. Kubo & the Two Strings - What will Laika think of Next, Kubo is the Most Fantastic Stop-Motion 3D Animated Film to see in Years. the Only Voice Actor I know to play in the Film at the Time was Mr. George Takei of 'Star Trek' fame. And the People of Laika really put their Greatest Talent to the Challenge when they Build that Extremely Large 16-foot Tall Skeleton that can grab the Actual Models of the Characters (*no Kidding*), and how they use Bowling Balls to Animated the Giant Eyes, and Here are a Few Words from Animator Kevin Parry on working on the Moon Best: A.) You can see all of the rigging supporting the Moon Beast, all on top of a large, rotating tabletop. This puppet was essentially a long cable with 3D-printed shells attached to it – meaning it could not hold a shape on its own, so it had to be animated with an external support system. B.) Because of this, we often animated the Moon Beast looking upward at a down-facing camera, so that it wouldn’t be fighting gravity as much. The camera is about 5-6 feet above my head, looking down at the puppet. C.) I really like the initial tail whip and the shape it creates. But as the Moon Beast comes toward the camera, I think I overcompensated by having the tail break so far down and to screen left. I think it would have been stronger if the tail remained in-line with the head and body, and he had a more dramatic dive down and toward the camera. D.) If I could animate this shot again, I would also leave more of a beat after the Moon Beast turns towards the camera, before the attack (and have the mouth open during that beat). So the choreography would be something like big sweep toward the camera, anticipate the Moon Beast upward and pause for a beat, and then dive! I think the overall path and dynamics of this shot feel a bit too even. You can Find More Notes on his Progress on [This Cartoon Brew Article].
Sing - At First I thought I wouldn't be interested in watching the film, but then seeing some Characters looking interesting, especially Scarlett Johansson's character Ash, I decided to see this Film for myself, But this isn't the other time to see the Film in the Cinemas alone again, my mother wanted to see this Movie too. So we saw this Film together, and she liked the film too, and she even knew how Ms. Jennifer Hudson's Singing voice sounded immediately, although Miss Nana Noodleman's Speaking voice is done by Jennifer Saunders, Mom also Like Seth MacFarlane's Character Mike and how he Sang, and I told her of Course Seth can Sing in a Good Frank Sinatra like tone, like how he sang with Frank Sinatra Jr. in Family Guy. And Mother also like how Meena sang in the Climax of the Film, that was Beautifully done by Ms. Tori Kelly. And I was also Surprised to read that the same man who voiced Buster Moon, also Voiced Beetle/Kubo's Father in 'Kubo'. Hope you Like It!

Horcrux: The Beginning.
“I'm wondering if you would consider a Tom Riddle fic? Not a ship one- but his time at Hogwarts and throughout the creation of each Horcrux. Seeing the changes.”
To the lovely anon who requested the above, I liked your idea very much and as you might be able to tell by my other pieces getting into a character’s head is my fav. SO please stayed tuned as this is only a teaser for the things that will come.
[I took the speaking points from this scene in the movie btw.]
Enjoy.
He’s standing before Professor Slughorn
His suit is neatly pressed and his hair is combed back
Not a single strand out of place
Or button left dull
His appearance has been determined down to the finest of details
He had to ensure all went perfectly tonight
Because it’s the end of another year
And the end of another one of their evenings together
And he refuses to wait much longer
The whole Club had gathered around to hear the old man gloat about this student and that one
The ones that brought him immense pride
The ones that earned their places on his mantle
The ones that earned their places in history
And the other students listen with wide eyes and gaping mouths
Asking him countless questions about famed witches and wizards that he has taught
Their faces are derisive
Contemptuous even
Hoping to be one of his trophies like the puppets they are
Wishing to be another figure in the innumerable series of photographs and ticket stubs and newspaper clippings the man has on display
Praying to be the one he will add to his collection
It is an endless talking point for Slughorn
He will brag and boast and coerce for hours
Especially tonight with the most talented of his current students gathered
Assembled to ensure they knew exactly who to send their praises to when they find their success
When they make their fortunes
When they have ensured their name will be stamped into history
But Tom can see right through it all
The man has always been nothing but a collector
Not exceptionally talented in any particular way himself
But an excellent manipulator
He could at least respect that
Slughorn’s uncanny ability to trick children into idolizing him so they could make it on his cheap cabinet
Their wide twinkling eyes not even second guessing the sly way the words rolled off his tongue
Things like ‘exceptionally talented’
And ‘You remind of me of ...’
To build them up
To knock them back down
To make them think they needed his approval
But Tom knows
He can see past the façade
And he knows that what better way to get what he needs than to flip his game on his head
Make Slughorn chase him instead
Make him realize he will one day be seen as the invaluable asset he is
Someone who wizards and witches to come will know for generations
Will come to fear
Who will be written about for the rest of time
A necessity on his wall of photographs
And the unbelievable feeling of power that courses through Tom, the strength the thought alone gives him is enough to keep the words that drawl from his mouth soft
They seem so nonchalant as they slip from his tongue
He’s sure that the charming venom will wrap itself tightly around Slughorn in no time
Even though he seems apprehensive at first
‘I’m not sure what you’re reading Tom but this is very dark stuff, very dark indeed’
Doing this is like breathing
‘Which is … why I came to you.’
And it’s like he’s run his fingers over the exact right spot to make Slughorn unravel
Tom has always known how to talk to people
How to read the smallest flick of their gaze and twitch of their fingers
His professors call it charm
His friends flock to him as he speaks
A commanding presence that he is much too aware of
But his ability to hit the sweet spots they need to hear to make them do as he wishes is positively irrefutable
And just as he anticipates, Slughorn concedes
His beady little eyes watching Tom as he glides towards him
His presence obviously putting Slughorn on edge
Because he’s flexing his hand around his glass and bulging his eyes and there’s the slightest tick in his left knee
A nervousness there
Masked by his need to please the young man delving into his mind
And he doesn’t even know thats why
‘A Horcrux is an object in which a person has concealed part of their soul’
Tom feigns his purpose of course
His voice sounding so child-like
Just simple curiosity
‘But I don’t understand how that works sir’
It’s another step in his plans
Men like Horace need to feel superior, more intelligent, more capable
Even though Tom knows they’re so incredibly weak
So incredibly defenseless to men like him who define themselves by their ability to wield power
Not by their cultivation of those who already have it
Slughorn is nothing more to him than a cog in his infinitely more complex machine
A cog who couldn’t possibly comprehend what he has planned for himself
What he has planned for the world
‘One splits oneself and hides part of it in an object. By doing so you are protected should you be attacked and your body destroyed’
Tom maintains his steady gaze
A doe eyed look on his face
His mouth straight
But the word that comes out is a little harsher than anticipated
A little more excited
And he knows Slughorn won’t notice
But he realizes the idea of wielding this power is overwhelming him
He rolls his head to the side to release the tension from his neck
His body does not want to wait
But his mind, oh his mind
It has calculated the oncoming events with great precision and he must remain in control
Especially now
‘Protected’?
Slughorn seems to choke on his drink at Tom’s question
A confusion for why Tom is pressing the matter
But he appeases him anyway
‘The part of your soul that is hidden lives on. In other words, you cannot die’
You cannot die
You cannot die
Tom is staring into the fireplace when the words fall from Slughorn’s lips
He feels like he’s absorbing them through his skin
He can feel the supremacy already
See what he will do in the flames licking the bricks
See what he could show those who dare question him
See what he will accomplish with his reign
But he needs more first he realizes
He’s so lost in his thought that the silence from Slughorn is deafening
‘And how does one split his soul sir?’
The question comes out gently
Much more gently than the last
His tongue is purposefully languid in his mouth
He needs to know
Needs it to be affirmed
His mind is telling him to remain collected
But his blood is pumping so loudly in his ears
This is the key
‘Think you already know the answer to that Tom’
The word leaves his lips so fast he’s sure that Slughorn has noticed by now
The man may be daft but he’s still quite qualified
Still intelligent enough
Just not enough to realize the full extent of his actions tonight
‘Murder’
It sounds so satisfying to say aloud
A word that has been stuck in his head for months finally confirmed
Its so simplistic
All he has to do is rid the world, rid his world, of lives it will not need anyway
He can think of several just off the top of his head who don’t deserve a place in his empire
Who will serve no purpose
Who will only rebel against the inevitable
‘Yes, killing rips the soul apart, it is a violation against nature’
A violation against nature
Tom can feel the laughter in the pit of his stomach trying to force its way out
He remains calm, remains collected
We owe nature nothing he thinks
In the world he has envisioned he is nature
And the only violation is those who trust in love
Who allow themselves to be ruined by love
It is a wretched weakness
It brings the most powerful to their knees
He has seen it time and time again spreading like the disease it is
Crippling ones willpower
Refuting ones self interest
Love never gave great witches and wizards what they sought
Only held them back from their true potential
‘Can you only split the soul once, for instance seven?’
The question has come and gone before Tom realizes he has gone too far
Allowed himself to lose too much control
‘Seven? Merlin’s beard Tom isn’t it bad enough to consider killing one person? To rip the soul into seven pieces. This is all hypothetical isn’t it Tom, all academic.’
Horace sounds completely horrified by his question
It’s almost like he’s been stunned as he sputters the words out
And that’s really all the affirmation Tom needs
He can accomplish his goal
A goal no other wizard has dared to even think about
But Tom, Tom isn't like other men and he knows this
He has always known that his differences made him greater
This knowledge will allow him to become who he was always meant to be
He no longer needs the mind of Horace Slughorn
No longer needs the ancient, dusty books of wizards before him who only dreamt of such magical feats
‘Of course sir. It can be our little secret’
And it will be
Because by the time Tom has succeeded in this magic Horace will have forgotten this conversation
Or will be too ashamed of himself to delve into his memories to remember the information he gave the soon to be most powerful man the wizarding world has ever seen
And by then it won’t matter
Because tactless men like Horace Slughorn
Whose blood may be pure but whose souls are weighted down by love
Who will always succumb to their weaknesses
Have no place in a wizarding world ruled by Tom Marvolo Riddle
Ruled by a dark lord
The dark lord
Voldemort

For the ask game, Frollo?
*Perfect Isn't Easy plays ominously in distance*
Favorite thing about them?
To this day he's easily Disney's ballsiest villain. By a long shot. For every single point he hits, Oppression, the negative side of religion, and lust, he hits it right on the mark like no other villain. Ratcliffe's portrayal of ''Racist Man' was way too comical/pushed to a cartoony extent (Pocahontas as a film is Cringe Ass anyway). I know he comes after BATB but even Gaston's Big Horny motif wasn't anywhere near as Good as Frollo's!! The Stockholm Syndrome in Tangled clearly takes a lot of notes from HBOND so there's no way to say this man wasn't a pioneer in the history of Disney villains!! And they knew that!! They tried to replicate his character/recreate the abusive guardian thing in HBOND 2 because it was so perfect but they flopped!! You can't BEAT him!!
Least favorite thing about them?
We never got to see the spit take. You know what Im talking about and you know you do. Where's the spit take, Disney. It's within my rights. I wanted to see it. I deserved to see it.
Do I like their movie?
My #1 Favorite Disney Movie Of All Times spot constantly fluctuates between TLK and HBOND so YEAH. YEAH I'd say I enjoy the movie.
Do I like their design/outfit(s)?
GOOD. FELLOW. You wanna talk about Iconic??? Look no further than Frollo!!! I went as him for Halloween SEVERAL times in middle school because I wanted to look that Fresh2Death for just one day. The purples, the reds, the black...he invented the Goth Disaster look. All who came after him were mere posers. He looks like he has clinical depression and listens no nothing but Three Days Grace and Skillet and I respect that to no end.
Do I like their song (if they have one)?
If you're looking for a sign that Hellfire still fucks harder than most Disney songs, this is it.
What do I think of their minion(s)?
Frollo doesn't really...H A V E minions in the traditional sense as in villain sidekicks he's constantly interacting with on a personal sense and Jim can't count for this instance (That's a little joke for the mutuals, like and subscribe if you get it) I G U E S S the closest thing he's got are those two guards who have like...what, a combined total of three lines? They....play their part and get the job done, I guess. Patrick Star of Spongebob fame threw the first tomato at Quasi, let's talk about that one.
Which trait of their personality do I most see in myself?
The intense clawing acknowledgement of my own humanity/flaws and ravenous desire to suppress them. But in my case it's less Mass Horniness and more like...struggle with self image/worth and guilt that I do in fact sometimes dream about things modern society and internet culture have deemed as toxic things for milennial women to want (A boyfriend and eventually a house in the suburbs with no children and like five cats)
Frollo's kind of a hard one because I feel like saying there's anything in him that I personally see in myself is sort of a red flag/invitation to be pegged as a terrible person but I guess my previous answer is as close as it's gonna get.
How would I rate their hero?
I DO like Quasi. This is not a ''The mean hero hurted my villain and I hate them'' blog, if you want that you gotta go back in time to 2010 me. LITERALLY the only thing I don't like about Quasi is that the gargoyles don't stay in his head. Lotta people hate the way their comic relief breaks up the serious scenes and their tension and while that IS a valid criticism I've always seen their interaction with Djali and Madeline in the sequel to be a bit more....immersion-breaking. Like...if you REALLY wanna go into ''They muck up the serious scenes'' that cancels out literally every single Disney Renaissance sidekick so I don't really count that one.
Esmerelda and Pheobus are also great, they're one of my fav Disney couples. Hate their son, tho. I give them a solid A rank.
Where do they rank on my top favorite villains?
S Rank and no lower. Don't ever try to tell me he's anything lower than the top of the food chain in Disney villains. Thoughts and prayers go out to the Maleficent and Facilier fans, love you to death, but F Bomb always comes out on top!!!
