I keep seeing this description pop up in fic and now here, and it barks the very shins of my brain so I have to make this argument.

Y'all. Yautja do not have small eyes.

What they have is eyes the size of human eyes in BIG. CHIBI. HEADS.

Look at a picture of Kevin Peter Hall in the Jungle Predsuit without the head. Look at the size of his eyes. Look at the size of his head. Now look at the size of the Predator's head. Yautja don't have small eyes, they have ENORMOUS SKULLS.

Like it is literally a plot and relationship-development point in AVP that Yautja eyes can look human. Scar's green eyes and dilated pupils (especially compared to the red-ringed yellow eyes and constricted pupils Predator fans are expecting) humanize Scar for Lex and for the audience when he removes his mask. That's why there's a close-up shot of his face BEFORE he roars at her: so the audience are forced to look at his eyes and receive the message that Lex has looked at Scar and seen a person and not a monster; that's how we understand why Lex doesn't flinch or run when Scar gives that iconic roar.

It's a great callback to the unmasking in the original Predator, and it uses the unmasking-closeup-roar in a new way, showing the audience that yes, this is a Predator, but he's not quite as alien and hostile as all the Predators we've known before. It's also a wonderful moment of communication between the characters: Scar's challenge isn't "I'm going to fuck you up, Ahnold," it's "Here I am, big and scary, can you still handle being friends?" And Lex' answer is "Yes, I see you, yes you're scary, but I'm not going anywhere."

That relationship-building is what gives the final action sequence of AVP its stakes, its emotional weight: this isn't just a random Predator whaling on a Xenoqueen, this is Lex' friend, risking his life to protect his friend, who accepted him and joined his murderclub. Scar's death is painful to us because he's personalized in a way Celtic and Chopper aren't, in a way no previous (canonical) Predator has been. That personalization revolves around that pivotal unmasking moment when Lex--and the audience--notices not how alien Scar's face is, but how human his eyes are. If Yautja eyes are not similar to human eyes, the entire end of the movie wouldn't work as well as it does.

stupid fucking geek rant/analysis(?) under the cut that’s probably been worded better and said before by like a krillon people

this scene is deadass one of my most favorite non-comedic sequences in the show

i enjoy every single little corny detail of this scene because it's just GOOD. it's one of the most significant moment between nathan and pickles in the entire series

LIKE . THIS BIG ASS MAN IS VOMITING BLOOD IN ORDER TO APOLOGIZE TO HIS BANDMATE/FRIEND ..,, THE PEOPLE ARE SHELLSHOCKED. he is more emotional trying to do this than deliver the eulogy of his longtime band-father figure. he’s doing this in front of his ACTUAL ex bandmate (MAGNUS,,,!! HELOO!!!!)

the show has made it clear with dialogue and just plot in general that nathan has trouble expressing himself emotionally (snakes n barrels pickles, REBECCA!!!, song of salvation, blablabla…)

it has also made it clear he DOES care about his bandmates like when he takes dethklok to sweden to get skwisgaar back, saves toki from the revengencers/tries to talk about his recent drinking, freaking out for almost killing murderface, saving toki from camp, the crap in doomstar requiem/army of the doomstar, every motherly thing, etc. THE LIST COULD GO ON IS WHAT IM TRUING TO SAY .

but THIS is the scene that means the most to me,,, i love nathan and pickles and the crazy chaotic shit they pull, and this is such an crucial scene in both of their character arcs and the break of the tension in that part of the show. whether you want to ship nickles romantically or not, you cannot overlook the obvious relationship they have because IT’S SO HUGE.

Star Wars Undertakes Universe-Shaking Changes After Ahsoka - Vanity Fair

“Now I’m what’s called chief creative officer of Lucasfilm,” Filoni tells Vanity Fair, which places him into the development process much earlier and in a much more expansive capacity than his previous advisory duties. “In the past, in a lot of projects I would be brought into it, I would see it after it had already developed a good ways.”

“While I had introduced in Rebels the idea that she came to understand that Anakin had become Darth Vader, I never really dealt with the fallout from that,” Filoni says. “How does that affect somebody when a person that they really admire and looked up to turned out not to be the person they thought they were? Are we all just capable of a fall from grace? And what is forgiveness? What shape does that look like? Did I take the good parts of this person with me as well as the bad, or am I just the good? I thought there were a lot of interesting challenges for her.”

“Anakin…of course he’s there with her,” Filoni says. “He’s always been there with her, but she just couldn’t see it. She couldn’t feel it. She didn’t know. She had isolated herself and made herself alone because she was afraid.

“Part of the reason Ahsoka originally had issues trusting Sabine was because I reminded her so much of her master in some ways, in terms of the internal struggle I was going through,” she says.

“I know it’s a very specific group of people that would even know what those statues are, but I thought it was an exciting image, and it does give you the shape of what Baylan is after,” Filoni says.

While the prospect of a second season seems assured, nothing is finalized except Lucasfilm’s willingness to continue Ahsoka’s story. “I mean, they’ve not said anything officially, but I remember when we were at Star Wars Celebration in London and they were like, ‘We’re giving Dave a movie!’” Dawson says. And I was like, ‘I kind of feel like that means we’re probably going to get a second season.’ For a while now, and especially now with the strike and everything, no one can say anything. But he did say he was working on an outline. So, we’ll see.”
