Sisyphus: the myth - review
And that’s a wrap. The story of Sisyphus: the myth has been completed. I first thought that Sigma was Sisyphus but I was wrong. Han Tae-sul was Sisyphus. He cheated death by starting the process of creating the uploader. Just like Sisyphus from the Greek myth also cheated death. Sisyphus was punished for it by being forced to roll a big stone up a hill for eternity. Tae-sul was fated to have an ending leading to his death. It showed. Because even when he had killed Sigma, another enemy came in his way. That punishment was his fate for having created the uploader. If it wasn’t for the myth it would have been possible for Tae-sul and Seo-hae to win, but this drama was all about the myth after all. And only Tae-sul could stop all this by ending his ending his life. That was the only way the existence of the uploader and even the idea of it could be gone.
I enjoyed watching this drama a lot. I think it was full of beautiful deep references and amazing suspense till the very end! This drama taught us a lot about regrets and how you should really think well about the things you do in the now, before you will regret the things you didn’t do, in the future. Not that having regrets is wrong, but more that it’s important to try to think well about what really matters most in the decisions you make now.
This was my first drama with Park Shin-Hye in it and I fell in love with her acting. I will definitely be watching more of her! Also she had such amazing chemistry in this drama with Jo Seung-Woo! I was really impressed by it! Honestly I loved many characters in this drama and I loved the plot too. There was a lot I loved about this drama.
I would recommend watching this one but do know what you’re watching. This drama has no happy fairytale ending, yet no horror ending either. It’s more the kind of drama in which you need to solve a puzzle till the very end while being surrounded by lots of suspense and questions. Even after finishing the drama I still had many questions I had to talk about with people or find answers for online until I finally understood everything well. But that also made it fun and interesting to me.
But that also made it fun and interesting to me. I think it makes the plot quite impressive, the complications of it, yet it continuously staying interesting to watch. But yeah be aware for this drama you sometimes have to think quite hard and deep and you also have to stay focused very well in order to keep understanding everything well.
So if you’re up for a drama that is fun to watch as well as it making your brain work hard. If you’re interested in a drama with sci-fi, thriller and action elements. If you’re up for seeing a female warrior lead trying to save the world while also falling in love. If you love some great suspense. And if you want to even see a little bit of BTS/Army related scenes, this is the one to watch.

Added trauma flavour: Parent was murdered in front of them (**Still counts if they survived the murder Parent tried to murder them Dying from seemingly incurable disease which makes their parents/guardian sad (If your parents are alive, you must pay for it by dying yourself) Adoptive parent/stepparent is THE WORST
Somehow has normal parents: Lee Jun-ho (Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Has no backstory at all. We only meet his older sister and hear nothing about his childhood.) Shin Ha-ri (Business Proposal, her family is refreshingly normal, right down to her brother being sent out to find her when she's drunk) Oh Han-byeol (Sh**ting Stars, Again, we know almost nothing about her family, only that she has twin sisters. But she doesn't appear to have childhood trauma.) Park Yeon-woo (The Story of Park's Marriage Contract, her mom being annoyed at her for something that is a crime doesn't count as bad parenting) Lee Young-joon/Sung-hyun (What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, his trauma comes from a kidnapper, his parents faced a pretty impossible situation and did their best. They clearly love their kids)
*Counting her as an orphan even though she gets her parents back after 20 years, she spent her childhood orphaned.
***This character is tricky because I understand why her mother wanted nothing to do with her, but her trying to manipulate the dad and also saying he didn't raise her properly made me so angry. Uncatagorized due to lack of clarity on parents: Soundtrack #1, Hospital Playlist, Happiness

Hello! What's there in the Korean Berlin's backstory? I cannot find it anywhere!
Hi elwen! I found it in this article!
It has some cool details about the remake cast (like Helsinki and Oslo being from a Chinese gang, etc.). Tokyo and Berlin's backstories really stood out to me, especially Berlin's because I would never have predicted this asdasdf
Park Hae-soo, from the global sensation Squid Game, will shift gears to portray Berlin, a cold yet brutal member in Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area. A North Korean who spent 25 years in a concentration camp, Berlin plays a field leader among the thieves during the heist. The rebellious Berlin, who believes total control over people can only be derived from fear and division, will heighten the tension of the plot.
Jun Jong-seo plays Tokyo. She is a North Korean who immigrated to South Korea with a “Korean Dream” when the borders opened. Unlike how she imagined, her life in the South is not so dreamy, but sheer brutal. Just as she finds no hope in life, the Professor persuades her to join his master plan. Accepting his offer, Tokyo is one of the characters who truly has faith in the Professor. Jun Jong-seo commented on Tokyo as “a character whose every decision changes the entire flow of the game.”

Crash Course in Romance (2023)
Tumblr media
Really enjoyed this show. The writing and story felt familiar, but the actors were good enough that it still seems fresh. Could have done with 50% less obsessed crazy stalker people though.
What Worked
The leads were fun to watch both separately and together. The overall relationships were interesting and the drama does a good job of making something that should be rather dull (math class) seem exciting. Even the most detestable people in the show still had some moments of sympathy as well, which makes them seem like real people, and it also makes the show feel safer rather than super stressful.
What Didn't Work
The weird murder plot, but this was less offensive than most and they didn't allow it to take over the show.
The Performances
Jeon Do-yeon as Nam Haeng-seon. I'm not sure if it's groundbreaking to take a character that is super common in romance (the plucky young woman who just wants to take care of her family, but OMG life is terrible) and just age her up 15 years. Sadly, it kind of feels that way. In any case, this actor is great, she's apparently a big deal in K-film and I'm so glad we got to see her here.
Jung Kyung-ho as Choi Chi-yeol. He's not all that different from the character he played in Hospital Playlist (I enjoyed him in that), but his story is different enough that it still seemed interesting. Jung Kyung-ho did a great job as a lead, and I liked all the different character moments the writers put out there for him. Not all of them stuck (for example, the tragic student death that he seems to have forgotten about after five episodes), but overall it was more hits than misses.
Oh Eui-shik as Nam Jae-woo. Every time I see a character in these dramas who is on the Asperger's spectrum, I start to wonder if the writers are ticking a box or something. But as long as they make sure and put in the work to make the character feel real, then I'm okay with it. Oh Eui-shik did the work, and I was okay with it.
Lee Bong-ryun as Kim Young-joo. I enjoyed seeing her in Hometown Cha x 3 and she did a great job here (though her character is a little more one-note here). I felt her romance arc at the end was actually kind of nice.
Roh Yoon-seo as Nam Hae-yi. Really good job by a young actress who was only in her second drama. Hopefully, she'll have a long career, because she was fun to watch and the character was well done as well.
Jang Young-nam as Jang Seo-jin. The only other role I've seen her in was as kind of a bad person in IOK2NBO. She wasn't a great person here, but I had alot more sympathy for her, partly because the actor did a good job of making her relatable even during all the crazy plot stuff. I'm glad the writers left the character in a pretty good place overall.
Kim Mi-kyung as Haeng-seon's mother. I have already raved about how cool this actor is in other places. She was only in two episodes, and her character didn't even get a real name, but it was still just nice to see her on screen.
The High School Kiddos. I think they all did a good job. The writers didn't try and make them too cutesy or turn it into an afterschool special. They were fun to watch when they were on screen, and they all had good moments in the show.
The Gang of Bad Mothers With Money. I kind of enjoyed their antics, even if it felt like the writers were giving them the job of creating pointless drama at times. They were funny when they needed to be, and detestable when they needed to be, but none of them were too memorable.
The Evil Baddie Assistant Guy. Kind of a spoiler though it's not really a huge secret. I think the actor did a decent job of playing subtle with a character that slowly turns into a mustache twirling villain by the end of the series. I didn't need an interesting villain, in fact I'd rather not bother with him at all, but if you have to have a murder spree in your drama, this guy is an acceptable choice.
TL; DR:
Fun little romance / relationship drama with good casting that hit a sweet spot between familiar and fresh. Had some funny moments, and a few genuine feels but you knew going in that you'd end up with a HEA.

The Host (2006)
Tumblr media
You’d think hilarious and horrifying would be far apart, but under the steady hand of director Bong Joon-ho, you’re never sure whether you should be laughing or trembling in fear. The Host is a unique monster movie with great re-watch value due to its sharp satirical themes, well-developed characters, numerous surprises and unexpected scares.
In 2006, slow-witted Park Gang-du (Song Kang-ho) runs a snack bar near the river with his father, Hee-bong (Byun Hee-bong). Suddenly, his daughter Hyun-seo (Go Ah-sung) is attacked and kidnapped by a large tadpole-like creature. While attempting to rescue her, Gang-du is sprayed with the monster’s blood, which government agents suspect contains a deadly, unknown virus. As Gang-du’s underachieving brother, Nam-il (Park Hae-il) and national medalist archer sister Nam-joo (Bae Doona) join the search for the missing girl, the government begins panicking.
What makes this film so funny is that nearly every character is a complete idiot. Gang-du is an ambulant disaster. He's always saying the wrong thing, always making the worst mistake you could make, always the last one to catch on. Even his father knows the man’s a half-dozen parts short of a set, and this is best demonstrated in a scene in which he tries to explain that Gang-du showed so much promise as a child. The story he tells is such a “what does that even mean?” kind of tale it would be heartbreaking if it weren’t so awful. It also shows the apple might not fall so far from the tree. Gang-du's siblings fare a little better but they also have a knack for screwing things up and when there’s a great big mutated tadpole gobbling people up, you can’t afford to make the kind of mistakes they make.
What makes this film so scary isn't only the monster; it's that nearly every government agent or authority figure is an idiot. It’s hard to tell if the constant failure to track down the monster, misunderstanding of the situation, inability to contain the Park family and knack for making things worse is done on purpose or not. Considering it would take a lot of people to work in perfect unison to orchestrate this thing, you lean towards overwhelming idiocy on everyone’s part. If Gang-du is exploring the river shore while infected with a deadly disease, they’re putting everyone at risk by doing such a poor job containing him. If he isn’t infected, then they’re wasting time and resources chasing a non-threat while a real-live monster is on the prowl. If this creature was as tall as a skyscraper and crushing bridges under its feet they would be able to get their ducks in a row right away but because it's only eating people one at a time, they can’t get anything done.
Beneath all the comedy and horrifying incompetence, there’s a lot of great material to chew on. Bong Joon-ho (who co-writes with Ha Won-jun and Baek Chul-hyun) has something to say about uncaring governments (both domestic and foreign), ineffective youth protesters, the repercussions and cause of pollution, family and social structure. That’s fun if you want to dig deep but you don’t have to. The family dynamics and main story are plenty on their own. The satirical material and terrific screenplay make up for the low budget and then some. It isn’t so much that you’d watch this movie again and realize “oh! when they said this, THAT’S what they meant!” it’s that you’ll be looking for clues to figure out if this thing that was said was meant to be sinister, or if it was just another brick to the head in this tornado of I.Q.-dropping head injuries. The line is so thin it’s nearly impossible to tell where the malice begins and the incompetence ends.
From fart jokes to tense scenes of danger, heartbreaking betrayals to well-established quirks coming in to save the day, The Host is so many things it’s hard to categorize it as belonging to any single genre. Or maybe that’s because I’ve only seen it once. I’ll let you know if I figure out where it belongs the next time I see it - and there will be a next time. (Original Korean version with English Subtitles, On DVD, October 24, 2021)

The crazy misfit crew!
P.S. I promise the story will continue in the next post, bluesettes!
In the bustling city of Seoul, where the halls of Seocheon High School echoed with mysteries and teenage mayhem, an unlikely alliance of five friends embarked on a journey that would redefine the meaning of high school camaraderie. Kim Ji-eun, the spirited leader with a penchant for puzzles, discovered her first friend, Soo-hyun, in the sandbox of kindergarten. Seo-jin, a tech wizard with charisma to spare, joined their circle in 3rd grade, upgrading their friendship to include cutting-edge gadgets and a lot of mischief.
Fast forward to 6th grade, and Min-joon, a sports enthusiast with an unrequited crush on Soo-hyun, added his contagious energy to the mix. The group's dynamic, already resembling a sitcom, took an artistic turn when Hae-won, a bubbly painter, strutted into their lives like a splash of color in a black-and-white movie.
Ji-eun, with her insatiable curiosity and knack for turning any situation into a puzzle, became the de facto leader. Her sidekick-in-crime-solving, Soo-hyun, brought a level-headed analytical touch, probably developed from years of deciphering Ji-eun's cryptic language of friendship. They were the OG duo, the backbone of the group, a friendship so strong it could withstand even the most confusing of teenage emotions.
Min-joon, the charming athlete with a penchant for scoring goals and missing romantic signals, injected doses of unintentional humor. His attempts at impressing Soo-hyun with acrobatic soccer moves often ended in comical disaster, making him the accidental clown of the crew.
Seo-jin, the tech wizard, turned every investigation into a high-tech spectacle. Armed with gadgets that rivaled a James Bond film, he had a knack for making even the most mundane situations feel like an episode of a thrilling sci-fi series. However, his cool exterior masked a growing interest in Ji-eun, turning their friendship into a potential romance with enough sparks to rival his malfunctioning gadgets.
Hae-won, the artistic newcomer, infused the group with her bubbly and unconventional spirit. Her fierce protectiveness and artistic talents brought a unique perspective to their journey. The vivacious Hae-won quickly became the life and soul of the group, adding bursts of color and laughter to their shared moments. In a long-distance relationship since the age of 15, Hae-won's commitment to love and her journey in navigating a relationship from afar added depth to the narrative.
And let's not forget the subplot – Hae-won's long-distance romance that made the group's love lives more complicated than a Shakespearean play. Her relationship ups and downs became the running joke of the gang, a soap opera within the larger mystery they were unraveling.
As they stumbled through high school drama, coded messages, and Min-joon's unintentional pratfalls, the group discovered that friendship wasn't just about solving mysteries. It was about navigating the hilariously confusing journey of adolescence, where each misstep, awkward confession, and technological blunder added a new layer to their sitcom-worthy story.
In the tapestry of 'Notes of Destiny,' the misadventures of this quirky quintet etched themselves into the annals of legend. Laughter echoed through the halls, love blossomed in unexpected corners, and a touch of teenage absurdity painted the backdrop of their unforgettable high school journey. Amidst the chaos, Ji-eun's quest for mystery, Min-joon's unintentional hilarity, Seo-jin's tech theatrics, and Hae-won's long-distance love seamlessly wove together a narrative that celebrated the madness of youth and the enduring bonds of friendship.

Kim Young-dae and Park Joo-hyun, becoming a 'couple' and even being selected!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the MBC Friday/Saturday drama 'Golden Marriage, Joseon Marriage Prohibition', which aired on January 21st, Lee Heon (Kim Young-dae) proposed to So-rang (Park Joo-hyun) and broke the marriage ban.
So-rang met Lee Hun at the outdoor villa where she spent her first night. When Lee Heon asked, “Can I call you Sorang?” Sorang asked when did he know that he was Ye Hyeon-seon. “Lee Shin-won came back and said, ‘I came back because there is someone who needs to find Reum,’” So-rang smiled at Lee Heon’s words. The Great King (Cha Mi-kyung) came to visit So-rang and hugged her, apologizing for her suspicions.
Her original daughter (Hwang Jeong-min) said that she had entered the palace temporarily, and she began to teach Sorang etiquette. Sejang (Lee Hyeon-geol) came to her and proposed to her, saying, “Let’s get married!” So-rang was delighted to see her.
Lee Shin-won (Kim Woo-seok) released the bossam boss at the entrance of the mountain where the offering village is located. Then, soon after, Bantan Tan (Noh Min-woo) and the people of Gongyang Village showed up and took the long-awaited revenge. Banbantan said, “I lost my 17-year-old sister to your gang of bossamers! It's worth enduring all this time!” He gnashed his teeth.
Lee Hun also condemned Mrs. Seo's misdeeds. “I will treat Yumae as Yumae and Yeh Hyun-Hee as official slaves and send them to Tamra to work for the rest of their lives! Mr. Seo will be sentenced to death without any extenuating circumstances!” Lee Heon condemned them mercilessly.
Before her wedding, Sorang put on her heavy gache and became a complex face. At that time, Hae-young and Hoe-gi (Choi Deok-moon) appeared in front of So-rang at the invitation of her virgin daughter.
Sorang was delighted and said, “Grandpa knew, right? Somehow, even though I was acting like a beggar, he was kind to me.” Then, Sorang said, "I can't walk because the clothes are heavy. What kind of mother is a fraudster like me?” he grumbled.
Hoegi said, “You went all over the place, met a lot of people, listened to secret stories, and made them laugh. You are better than the flowers in the greenhouse!”, encouraging Sorang. Sorang no longer felt the weight of the gache when Hoegae cheered, saying, “I will be able to help you show affection to the people and take care of the people for Your Highness.”
Sorang, who officially became the middle warlord, did not hesitate to give advice to Lee Heon. In response to the clamor, “Do to the people as much as you want to do to Jungjeon,” Lee Heon gave maternity leave and parental leave to public slaves, and even issued a holy spirit order to encourage marriage.
Then, Lee Shin-won's father, Lee Jeong-hak, and Hwa-yoon's father came to So-rang and asked for help. In response to the earnest requests of the two fathers, “Mama, please do something for our Sinwon!” and “My Hwa-yoon!”
Even So-rang and Lee Heon came forward to come up with a plan so that Lee Shin-won and Hwa-yun could be married. While catching chickens wandering around the yard, Hwa-yun ran into Lee Shin-won and soon became Jung-in. Hoe-ki, who even arranged a group introduction, complained, “I only connect others’ kites, where is my kite?”
Lee Heon and Sorang implemented a policy that everyone who wanted to get married got married and the country took care of the children and parents born as a result. Sorang said, "Today and tomorrow, be sure to do 'Sorang'!" She blessed the world.

CHAPTER 17: DARKNESS UNLEASHED
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This chapter was intense. It was kinda tricky executing what I have in vision, with all the flashbacks and whatnot that could make or break the flow of the story, somehow I made it through.
Now, enough of that. This is what I pictured our royals to be in for this chapter.
The Princes wearing their deep blue royal suits, while our Sun Princess wears a tight fitted red gown.
Honestly, with SYJ’s proportions, I think she can wear a potato sack and pull-it-off, making it look like a signature brand. I mean look at that visual! And they said God created us equal.
