#gale x katniss
Text
Can we please talk about the fact that Gale ALWAYS had Katniss’s back?? It’s always one of the biggest reasons why I will always love their relationship . It didn’t matter if they were mad at each other/disagreed, if Katniss needed someone for support/help/advice, etc, he was there for her as soon as he could be. And also, they always listened to each other, they just didn’t always necessarily agree. And that’s actually shows a really strong friendship, as they didn’t just tell the other what they want to hear!

I'm a big proponent of the fact that gale is not some jealous bitch who hates peeta and occupies his time trying to force his affections on katniss, but if it ever did come down to a wedding between katniss and peeta, I think gale'd strangle peeta on sight. hands down no holds barred.

Ngl pushing gale as the side love interest kind of destroyed his character. Like gale was such an amazing character, a person who sacrificed himself for his siblings, a person who was clearly upset when his sibling risked his life by taking the tesserae, was greatly loyal in devoting his life to protect prim for katniss as seen before the bombing of district 13 and he wanted freedom and revenge for not just himself but everyone. But the writer just completely mismanaged it to create him as a second male lead and dissolved his character into a manipulative, jealous, over bearing and totally dislike able person with a huge hero complex. Like please let gale be appreciated for his good qualities because he did suffer.

RANT ABT THE HUNGER GAMES (specifically gale):
im putting this here bc i feel like it :3
its just… odd that ive actually communicated with people who believe that the hunger games is mainly about a love triangle. yes, there is a love triangle in there, but that is most definitely NOT the main theme. the hunger games is about the tragedies and aftermath of war.
there are quite a few people who ship katniss x gale and thats fine but in my opinion gale was not right for her. it literally stated in the book that katniss chose peeta because she did not need gale’s rage but instead needed peeta’s gentleness and love. he also manipulated her many times. gale wanted katniss, while peeta simply wanted katniss to be happy, regardless if she was with him or not.
to state a few examples of gale manipulating katniss (most are from the books), he kissed her when she was in a unstable mental state, he pushed her to be someone she did not want to be and someone she simply was not (he continually encouraged her to be the face of the rebellion and she never rlly wanted that or felt comfortable doing so), he stood by and lied to her for the woman who wanted to kill her (which was evident when peeta joined their squad), he called her bestfriend and fiance a COWARD while he was being TORTURED (this one is rlly important but was not in the books and instead was in the movies), he blamed her for what she did in the games to survive, and he built the bomb that killed her sister (although he did not know that it was his bomb but thats also rlly important because—as it was stated in the books—there is no way she would have ever forgave him for that).
however, gale was dealing with his own problems and was manipulative to katniss because of that.
all in all tho, gale is a rlly important character bc he not only represents how war destroys a person, but how revenge comes with costs.

When you post for decades, your work winds up in a lot of places. Some were lost to the sands of defunct web boards (I'm looking at you, LOST, Jane Austen, Supernatural, Harry Potter, and Days of our Lives), but most can be found under audreyii_fic on Archive of Our Own, LiveJournal, and Fanfiction.net — though not every fic is in all three locations.
Social media-wise, I'm intermittently present on Bluesky as audreyii.bsky.social, Twitter X Nazi Hellscape as audreyii_fic, and YouTube as Two-Thirds Blind.
Every ship I've ever shipped has sunk.

Peeta/Gale - Jealousy
Okay, I have to say that I've gone back into The Hunger Games fandom, and upon my reread of the OG trilogy, there's this one detail of how Peeta and Gale handle their jealousy towards each other:
So Peeta admits in Catching Fire that he was always a little jealous of Gale because of the relationship that Gale and Katniss shared as hunting partners and because Gale is the archetype of guys who are adored by thousands but will choose to be with one girl (like Jeremiah from TSITP and Paxton from NHIE). But then he overcomes this jealousy by actually explicitly allowing Katniss to choose Gale by putting a picture of him smiling (which is described by Katniss in the first book as something that makes Gale someone you wish you knew) in the locket he wore in the Quarter Quell.
On the other hand, Gale's jealousy (and this is what I found from a book following a critical perspective of agency in the Hunger Games), is due to the fact that Peeta can protect Katniss in ways that Gale cannot. What is so disturbing in Mockingjay, is that Gale actually offers not once but twice to kill Peeta (once after Katniss's hurtful comment of Peeta being a mutt and after Peeta asks to be killed, despaired that he murdered a squad member in cold blood in hijacked state). It's also evident in his and Peeta's conversation, that Peeta "won" with his actions and I'd like to quote:
Gale believes that Katniss loves Peeta more not because of who Peeta is but because of what he was able to offer. According to Gale, Peeta was willing to give up everything, to surrender all personal freedom and power, in order to remain with Katniss, and this is what gives Peeta an advantage over Gale. In Gale’s mind, Peeta sacrifices power for a relationship whereas Gale sees the power that a relationship can offer.
Thoughts?

It is their nature to be quiet, it is my duty to understand. It is their circumstance of being aloof, it is my care to give them space. It is their troughs to be without witness, it is my crest without hope without reward. It is their mind that is erratic, it is my soul that is thrown around. It is their routine hundreds of unanswered calls, it is my curse that i will keep on calling. It is their satisfaction in appetizers, it is my desperate feast in the crumbs. It is their precious moments of solitude, it is my default setting of loneliness. It is how easily they can ignore the banging on the door, it is even the shadows moving which i cannot miss.It is them raining down their love on me, it is me convincing myself of my insanity. It is me running towards them heart bursting the next morning, it is them never knowing the throes of the lows. I am insane, i am alone, undiagnosed.

I will never understand people who are team Gale. And it's not because he killed the prim because I don't that was his fault it's because of how much of a shity friend he was the katniss. I mean think about it for a second imagine going through the most traumatic experience of your life being forced to kill people and almost dying. And then come back to your best friend and he's like why did you kiss someone even though it was for your survival cuz that is what Gale rest of series. He is making kind of feel bad about being with Peeta even though it was for on survival. And that's why Peter is better because he actually realize that kind of did what she had to do to survive and he has no grudge against her and he's willing to be her friend and be there for andwant her to be happy even though it's not with him.
Alright before I respond, I just gotta say, the only way you would find my account is if you were deliberately searching for Pro-Gale or Pro-Everthorne Posts. You don’t have to like either, but there is no other way you’d find my account. Anyways, let’s hear it.
You’re argument is that Gale is a bad friend because he ‘blamed’ Katniss for what she did to survive the games. I’ve read Catching Fire the most in the series, and there are a whopping 0 quotes of Gale doing this. Here’s what the text actually says: “He (Gale) only has his Sundays off, and I think he likes saving for you (Katniss)” and Katniss says “Hunting with Gale is still the best part of my week”. If Gale was blaming Katniss for the games, I don’t think he’d be trying his hardest to spend time for her, and I also doubt Katniss would be happy with him constantly blaming her. But wait! Hunting with Gale is still her best part of her week.
Now you’re other argument is that Peeta did not blame Katniss for doing the love act for survival. But, didn’t Peeta literally refuse to interact with Katniss leading up to the victory tour. You can make the argument he apologized, but that’s all the proof I need to show that Peeta DID blame her for the games.
Listen, you don’t have to ship Everthorne. That’s fine! I’m not forcing you too! But please do it based on actually canon. Whether you like it or not, Katniss was thinking about Gale from when she was planning to meet him before the reaping, and right to the end when she hoped he would magically appear next to her on the rock.

suzanne collins is such a genius... the cultural phenomenon of her series leading to the hanging tree house remixes, mockingjay being milked for two (bad) movies, the capitol-inspired makeup palettes, the halloween costumes, the explosion of the market for dystopia, the butchering of her characters and removal of disabilities, disfiguration, and racial tension + representation to sell more tickets, the extra gale scenes to fuel discourse, and the audience showing up to cinemas to watch what was pretty honestly marketed to them (the jacob vs edwardification of the symbolic love story and also to watch children fight to the death) it's just so ridiculously ironic i would say you can't write this shit, but she did write about it... in The Hunger Games published 2008

I will never get over Gale’s stupid ass thinking that Finnick wanted Katniss at the beginning of Mockingjay, when the entire time that man was breaking down and longing for Annie. Like the whole reason Katniss and Finnick became close friends was their joined love and longing for Peeta and Annie who were both imprisoned in the capital together.
