I will never get over Gale’s stupid ass thinking that Finnick wanted Katniss at the beginning of Mockingjay, when the entire time that man was breaking down and longing for Annie. Like the whole reason Katniss and Finnick became close friends was their joined love and longing for Peeta and Annie who were both imprisoned in the capital together.

Finnick can't flirt with Annie. He can flirt with every other man, woman, nonbinary person who crosses his path no problem, but Annie?
It's like he's a kid again. He gets shy. Because he actually loves her. So he'll try his best but he's blushing and uncertain and Annie thinks it's equal parts hilarious and adorable and she 100% bullies him lovingly for it.
Johanna bullies him too, but she mostly finds it hilarious that Finnick Odair of all people gets tongue-tied when Annie calls him precious.

THE HUNGER GAMES APPRECIATION WEEK - Day 6: Favorite District
District 4 is one of the wealthiest districts of Panem. Its major industry is fishing and is considered a Career District. Despite their relative wealth and success, it had a strong rebel underground. On the day before the reading of the Quell card, the district had been in revolt for several weeks, resulting in seafood shortages that were explained away as a consequence of bad weather. They were involved in the plan to break Katniss out of the 75th Hunger Games arena. Not much is known about District 4's way of living aside from their specialization in fishing. This makes them adept at tying knots, weaving, and wielding weapons like spears and tridents. They can also make and use nets, improvise fish hooks, and identify edible marine life. The traditional bread from this district is a salty, fish-shaped loaf, tinted green by seaweed.

🌊Annie Cresta🐚
A lovely if somewhat bedraggled young woman - dark tangled hair, sea green eyes.

Finnick truly loved Annie so much the fact that he fell in love with her because of her and not despite any mental instability, the level of patience and devotion for him to be there always and help her and heal her, the absolute gentleness in his behaviour towards her, the fact that they invented real or not real and Annie always asks him and he always answers her because he loved her so deeply so completely he taught himself how to take care of her as best as he could and never saw her as a burden, and now he's gone and what about Annie, who is going to tell Annie what is real or not anymore I’m —

Finnick's real charms of self-effacing humor and an easygoing nature are on display for the first time. He never lets go of Annie's hand. Not when they walk, not when they eat. I doubt he ever plans to. She's lost in some daze of happiness. There are still moments when you can tell something slips in her brain and another world blinds her to us. But a few words from Finnick call her back.

I will always imagine Annie Cresta's death similar to the ending scene of Titanic, with her dying old and peacefully in her bed with images of her son and grandchildren around her, while her spirit returns to the sea to meet Finnick again in their perfect heaven, surrounded by all the people she loved who had died years before.

Thinking again about how Suzanne esentially subverted the "beloved famous man that is actually a horrible person in real life" with Finnick, who is the complete opposite of that.
Finnick has this whole image costructed around him by the people that abused him for years: the Capitol's darling, their golden boy, the sex symbol of Panem, the man that has countless lovers but leaves them constantly and doesn't look back etc. And you would expect, initially, to meet a man that retains at least a part of that persona in his day to day life. But Finnick doesn't, not even one bit.
You see instead a man that is deeply in love and completely devoted to the one woman he quite literally adores, a man that protects Mags, his old mentor and his mother figure, as much as he can, a man that wouldn't leave Johanna behind, a man that gathers whatever strenght he has left to speak publicly about the abuse inflicted upon him at the government's hands; the opposite of what the Capitol's media and reputation made him out to be.

Another thing that I find INCREDIBLE about the queen Suzanne Collins is how she creates amazing stories in such little space and time.
Do you guys realize that we have only like about three moments of Annie and Finnick??? Yet we are ROOTING for them, we are in love with their relationship, we are dying for them to end up together. One of the things that hurt us the most about his death is what will happen to Annie and their son. We nearly knew her, only through Katniss’ eyes, what she’s told, and her minimum interactions with her, yet we adore her, and we don’t doubt for a second that she’s our beloved Finnick’s perfect match. With only several appearances we understand their story, we love them, we are suffering for them. With a very few moments of them, we are completely mesmerized by their story, which btw feels like a complete one.
Idk to me it’s crazy how she wrote the best main love story with Katniss and Peeta, and still managed to fit in a few more absolutely perfect couples, only using a couple of pages.

I don’t know how long we might have sat here if it weren’t for the arrival of the silver parachute, which glides down through the foliage to land before us. No one reaches for it. “Whose is it, do you think?” I say finally. “No telling,” says Finnick. “Why don’t we let Peeta claim it, since he died today?”

President snow used to…sell me…my body, that is. I wasn't the only one. If a victor is considered desirable, the president gives them as a reward or allows people to buy them for an exorbitant amount of money. If you refuse, he kills someone you love. So you do it. I wasn't the only one, but I was the most popular. And perhaps the most defenseless, because the people I loved were so defenseless.

Sam Claflin answering with “It’s all Annie Cresta. Everything he does is for the love of his life.” When he was asked what Finnick Odair’s motivation was, stays in my mind rent free.
